Weight lifting after many years absence. I’m 75 years old and haven’t lifted weights in many years. Always liked it, but just got too lazy to do it consistently. Weak points are my shoulders, arms hamstrings and quadriceps. I fall down a lot and I needed a cane or some other device to help me get up. I really struggled to stand up. Realized how thigh muscles had atrophied and decided to see if I could do something about it. I have three herniated discs in my lower back since playing high school football at the age of 16. I also need a right knee replacement placement from serious trauma back in 1992. This is an excellent program for beginners and intermediates. I eventually plan to purchase your pro version but I want to make sure that I can stick with it first using the basics. Thanks for making this available for free. Has helped me a lot in the short time I’ve been using it i.e. less than one month. Thigh strength in particular has greatly improved.

51 male with little experience. I was very active as a kid but not necessarily an athlete. I never squatted before and was concerned about starting at 51 years old with a history of back problems. I smoked and drank myself to 260 lbs. This program has gotten me into the best shape of my life. I’m squatting 275, benching 225, and deadlifting 285 currently. I keep making progress and can’t wait to challenge myself with the next work out. I utilized the de-load feature a couple times but come back stronger each time. I have found it has taken my joints and smaller muscles more time to catch up to the larger muscles so the slow and steady pace has been perfect for that as well as having control over the weight progression settings. I wake up eager to work out and PR again. I have never woke up eager to run any distance. Lastly, there is a real person on the other end of this app. Mehdi has answered my specific concerns personally. He’s worth every dime of the subscription cost! His advice is backed up by credited studies instead of trends and advertising. I trust him and his program has made me stronger.

All You Need. Bottom line up front, this app is all you need. It’s obvious it was made by someone that actually lifts. The interface is clean and workflow is set up in such a way that maximizes the weight moved as efficiently as possible. No more endless typing in sets, reps, and weights. You just tap and move on to the next. You literally don’t have to think. This lets you stay focused on moving weight. All that said this app has plenty of customization. If you can build a program with pencil and paper or a spreadsheet, then you can pretty much build it in stronglifts. There are plenty of 5x5 variations built in with each having multiple templates. You shouldn’t get bored. Your workout data is stored locally or can optionally be synced with the cloud. You can also export the data and do all kinds of spreadsheet metric and chart analysis. Every exercise has both text and video instructions of how to perform with proper form. There are also plenty of supplemental exercises to utilize to work around injuries or issues. In addition to being a great app, you also basically get a coach in your pocket. You can choose to receive Mehdi’s daily email, which I highly recommend, that covers all aspects of lifting with actual reference scientific studies from his decades of experience. He will also personally respond to questions and offer advice. Overall, subscribe or buy; you won’t have regrets.

Solid. It's a good program for anybody. I've been lifting with compound movements since I was 13. 36 now. The old programs I did had a lot of the same exercises but were split a little different. I've gotten out shape due to injuries and a career change from physical labor to a desk job. This seems like a good way to get my base strength back and avoid injury or overtraining. I'm about a month in on Stronglifts and I'm optimistic I'll see some good gains. I think the key is starting very light and just being patient until the weight adds up. I used to squat 400 lbs and bench 300lbs. I started this program at a 125 lb squat and a 110 lb bench. I think I'll surpass my old personal bests in 6-8 months. The app is very user friendly . I really like the way it's set up. The advice is sound too. Big compound lifts, stay consistent, eat right, rest, ignore all the complicated advice from magazines and the www, you don't need supplements because they're mostly garbage other than plain creatine monohydrate and whey isolate. Right on bro.

best workout app/tracker by far. Been using this app for years on and off. You get so much from the free version, and even then the premium membership cost is super reasonable. You'll only want to upgrade after using the app for a while anyways because the program it comes with is fantastic. It's so nice to have my whole history tracked and helps me get back to previous bests and push through them when I'm ready. There's so many customization options and features to make it so you really don't need any other resources outside of it. Support has always been top notch as well. Truly have nothing bad to say about the app, it's everything you could want from a lifting program and tracker. I'm planning to buy the lifetime membership once my current subscription runs out. Haven't ever done that with any other app but it's worth it without a doubt

Excellent Workout Plan and App. The StrongLifts 5x5 protocol is the most complete, most effective, easiest to follow, and most rewarding workout plan I’ve ever used. At it’s core are the fundamentals. The fundamentals are exercises considered to be fundamental because they have always worked to build strength, and always will. Heavy weights and basic compound movements are fundamental to strength. Every exercise is compound in nature, maximizing the effectiveness and minimizing the time investment. This program can easily be done in a weight-based home gym environment with minimal investment for ease and safety. The supporting exercise guides and videos are the most complete and comprehensive I’ve ever seen or used. Very well done, and I review them often to ensure that I maintain good form. It is well worth every minute spent reviewing them. I have not experienced any weight lifting related injuries in the 2-3 years I’ve been using it. The app is fabulous. Great guide and tracking tool. Very well done, and Medhi is continuously improving it. I add pull-ups one day, and chin-ups and dips the next. Add some ab work behind each workout if you wish. Under an hour for everything 3 times/week. I strongly recommend StrongLifts 5x5. Doug

Clunky Garbage - now I see why they don’t offer a trial. Immediate buyers remorse. The ads led me to believe the subscription would open a ton of extra features. Nope! Only allows two workouts with a very limited number of exercises. Granted, you can create your own, but for a recurring subscription, this is hot garbage. The workouts are not easily modifiable. Based on my previous lifts, it gave me the weight to lift for my workout. The weight was comically light. The entire workout didn’t even make me break a sweat. It was a fraction of my normal warm-up. Maybe this stuff is changeable somehow, but I don’t have an hour to figure out a poorly designed, clunky app. They don’t offer a trial, because nobody would ever subscribe after. The only legit feature is the plate “calculator” for those that can’t do basic math. Hoping I can get a refund. R: Yeah, thanks, but I’m already familiar with the 5x5 method. In fact, I’m already doing the 5x5 method, which is why I was so excited to find this app and why I was so disappointed to waste money on this clunky garbage. Your workout isn’t the end all, be all of workouts. Mine might be better. What if I want to rotate between 3 workouts or what if I want to deadlift every day. The lack of custom options for a paid subscription is wicked frustrating.

Used to be great, now constant spam to buy subscription. Update: response from the developer just further cements why I’ll leave this as 1 star. I bought it in the past so now I should spend 10x more to buy it again to “unlock” a different variation of 5x5? What a joke. I do 5x5 workouts for a few months at a time at most. I haven’t been using this app for 5+ years straight. I wish I could make my rating even lower for this cash grab nonsense. I bought this app about 6-7 years ago for $15 to unlock the pro version. Since then, they have removed the option to buy for $15 flat and switched to a subscription model. Even though I’ve already paid for the app once, I still get spammed every time I use it to subscribe to the plan. If I were a new user coming to this app, I would’ve deleted it after the first week. But since I’ve already paid money for it in the past, I power through it. A simple workout tracker is all you need for 5x5 programming. So yea, not happy with this app anymore.

Used to be 5 star. I started using this as a free app 3 years ago. I liked the features and ease of use so much that I bought it. I wanted to support the app developers. At some point they converted it to a paid subscription, again cant blame them. Jump on the band wagon of people being all about fitness. An they have a great app that I enjoy. Now for the 1 star: every single time I finish a workout and log it. I am spammed with three screens that make me refuse the subscription service. That adds absolutely nothing I need. Again I paid for the app, allow me to opt out of seeing this every single. Its making me want to search for a different app provider. I get it if I was using the free version, make me click past the adds. For a paying customer though ? Shut it off! Update: stop ignoring the problem in every review. I dont do the same program, I rotate apps. The problem is I paid for the app and yet I get spammed to upgrade after I click finish on every single workout. Fix it. Thats the problem.

Easy to Use: More Motivated. Before having a kid I was in great shape, worked out daily, and strength trained. During my pregnancy, I had to stop doing all that because my pregnancy was a rough go. After having my son I didn’t work out much anymore because I was no longer what I used to be and it was disheartening. I felt unmotivated and had a hard time getting back into working out. I wanted to go back to old routines but it was a lot made me feel like I would never get back in shape. I started this app because of a friend recommended it. I like it now because it’s easy to use, sets a rest timer, and calculates your progress. I may not be seeing physical results right now, but I can definitely see them as my workouts get tracked with this app. It’s motivating to workout more and it feels good. Having something simple to start off with has really made me feel like I can get back to my former levels of lifting. I can’t to see where I’m at 12 weeks from now!

Great Workout, Great App, Incredible Support!. I really like the 5x5 program a lot, and this app makes it so easy to confidently move through the program. I warm up well, rest appropriately between sets, and continue to confidently make gains like I never would have using my “pull a workout outta my hat, and make an educated guess at what weight to do” system I’ve used historically. This is particularly true as I, in my mid 50’s now, strive to stave off looming sarcopenia, and revive my lapsed strength and fitness. Not only is the app very well developed, and continually improving, but I am astonished by the incredible responsiveness of its support team. Not only will they assist, but they (Mehdi) has entered several detailed discussions with me on ways to improve the app. I’ve never experienced anything like it on any app store. Thank you!

Updated review.. This program is simple and easy to follow. I started working out at 35 years of age, and gained about 1 lb muscle/month, until I added about 15 lbs, while becoming lean as well. I don't think there is another program that is as straightforward as this, free (the advanced features you don't really need- I started using them after two years or so). Most programs just give you confusing "bro-science" instructions, complex routines, while also trying to sell you things you don't need. If you read about the creator of this program - Mehdi - he is genuinely passionate about lifting, and teaching people how to do it right. He goes over the technique of each lift in detail, so you don't get injured. Follow up the program and do NOT modify it! No need for assistance exercise for a while, until you gain decent strength.

Wonderful App for 5x5 workouts & Great customer support!. I am brand new to the 5x5 workout regimen, and I researched many apps before choosing StrongLifts. I am already finding it an invaluable aid in helping me monitor my progress and guide my workouts. I also had reason to write the developer with a question, and he responded almost immediately, and over a weekend – – major points for responsive and supportive customer service! I am 62 years old and not a complete novice to the gym, but I haven’t worked out with the guidance of a trainer or a fixed program in many years. I am only two weeks into the program, and I’ve already seen amazing growth in my strength and stamina. I don’t think I would be experiencing the same success if it weren’t for the StrongLifts app. Highly recommended!

Very Buggy. Before I went Pro I had about 3-4 weeks of saved workouts. Went pro and it deleted everything(?). I’m constantly* having to resubmit my assurance exercises, I’ll get the same Workout A twice in a row with no way of changing without uninstalling the app, reinstalling it, having to sign back in, then out ALL the information back in because for some reason it doesn’t remember even when I have a Pro account. Please fix these bugs, Mehdi. Even when working out I can’t focus cause it’s filled with so many bugs that often times I’m stuck trying to resubmit my weights into my workout plan and having to plug in my information again. Or it goes BACKWARDS in weight. Which doesn’t make any sense. So many bugs but unfortunately this is the only workout app I like to use.

Outstanding. I began using Strong Lifts 5x5 about 6-years ago when I noticed I was beginning to lose a lot of muscle tone and strength once I was 50-years old. I was discouraged with myself in being able to only lift light weights in the beginning but I quickly saw the benefits in my body once the weights increased and my strength improved. My wife even remarked several times that she could see and feel a difference in my body. I’ve taken some time off due to injuries, but now that I’m 56-years old and I’m going to return to the program because it was the one program that provided the guidance, automatic weight increases and activities that have worked for me. Give it a try and you will see and feel the benefits so many of us have. Work Hard-Stay Hard!

Keeps getting better and better!. I started using StrongLifts back in 2016 and keep coming back for more. Honestly, it was an amazing app even back then when it had more limited features simply because it’s a solid program. It’s quick, it’s easy, and all you really need is access to a power rack and and a bar. This app is AMAZING for complete beginners, and the programming is suitable for both sexes alike due the customizable nature of it. I do feel like the form videos could be better by including safety tips (such as how to know when you’re doing it right, and how to safely drop the weights in the event of failure), but I can’t fault the app in the slightest as that’s the guidance you’d normally get from a trainer. I will add that I don’t currently have the pro version, but I’m very excited to get it once my household decides on whether or not we want to jump on it together. It unlocks what looks like at least 100 exercises, which is incredible.

Good for lifters of all kinds. If you’re a novice or if you’re more advanced this app makes it easy. You have 3 exercises 5 reps each. 3x per week. That easy. It tracks your progress And helps you deload appropriately when you plateau. You can customize workouts. Add filler workouts on off days or even do two+ a day workouts if say your coach is pushing you in preseason training. Amazing app. I’ve been using it for 2 years. In year 1 - total novice and I got to lifting amazing volumes of weight. Seriously an amazing app and cannot recommend it enough Year 1 family paid for the app subscription as a gift. Year 2 I paid myself because it’s so good I didn’t want to go without. Also, since starting there have been some amazing improvements in the app. Development just keeps going and this is quickly becoming more and more amazing for anyone to use.

The best weightlifting app ever. I love this app and have recommended it to multiple people. If you want to really increase your strength, overall fitness and balance (with added benefit of looking better), this is your app. I’ve been weightlifting for 30 years and this is the program I come back to anytime I’ve been injured, coming off a running cycle or to switch up my workouts to focus on strength increases. The plan is simple but the app makes it very efficient and easy to track the progress you make. And you will make lots of progress. Give this a try for at least 8 weeks and then reflect back on how far you’ve come and you’ll be blown away. I’d also recommend reading the long explanation of the program on the author’s website. It’s very helpful and you’ll find yourself more motivated the better you understand the science behind why this works and avoid a lot of common missteps people always make when they pursue this without expert advice and a disciplined plan.

Excellent App! And customizable!. I have been active in the weight room and part of a training program before. Mostly in HS and college. And since then I have had trouble keeping track of my workouts, where to start, how to progress, etc. This app has completely taken care of all of that. It allows me to completely customize several workouts through which I rotate. I can also make and add custom workout exercises. If you are at all apprehensive about this app, please just try it. And if you think you can do more with the app- buy a subscription. I bought a 1-year subscription, to try it out. It has kept me on track, motivated, and accountable to my routine. I began with the bar and have slowly progressed to some serious weights. This app will provide you with everything except getting you into the gym, but by tracking your progress it sure helps.

As a lady.... As a lady it is hard to find a weight lifting program that isn’t too technical but still gives you a good workout (male workouts vs women’s). -I am so sick of the suggested workouts magazines say women should do. Nothing but body weight, lame! The true key to weight loss and maintaining everything is having enough muscle to burn your fat and food throughout the day. Finally a comprehensive program that hits all of the main body muscle groups in an easy to use format. The app is a breeze. The goals are reasonable (if you cant make a lift weight, drop the weight by 10% and try again) and easy to manage and track in the app. Meanwhile, a few clicks on my phone has me zipping through the work out -takes 20-30 minutes- and looks like I belong in the gym with all of the male gym rats! Love this app and love this program!!!

Very buggy. Overall the app and programming is good. I like the customization you can implement to the workouts. The software itself is very buggy. The Apple Watch and phone connection sometimes does not transfer completed sets. I don’t workout with my Apple Watch anymore because I would sometimes use that to track workouts to stay away from my phone. I later discovered while reviewing my workouts some things did not transfer from my Watch to my phone. Also, the app has a tendency to complete your workout and erases all logged sets for that workout. This is frustrating because I have to start a new workout and now my workout timer is off. And then, the automatically completed workout cannot be deleted for some software malfunction reason, and messes up my tracking. I like the app, but unlesss the software is improved, I won’t renew my subscription (which I paid for 1 year).

Great program. Between the app with the Pro upgrade and the awesome website, you can’t go wrong unless you don’t follow the program or you lack the drive. I’ve been training for over 20 years. An injury took me out of the gym for a while. Using 5X5 StrongLifts got me strengthened again to the point I was back to weight training with no problem. I started at a low weight. A weight that could. E considered embarrassing at the gym. I mean 95lb squats and bench press. But I followed the program and I was up to bench pressing 315 lbs 5 times and squatting 405lbs 5 times in a matter of 6 months. It’s only three times a week. If all you can do is Saturday and Sunday and one day during the week, then you’re doing the program. With time, I added assistant exercises. I grew bigger and my body fat decreased. I love 5X5 StrongLifts and recommend it to my friends and people on Facebook bodybuilding groups I belong to. There’s a reason it has the high review score that it does. Enough said!

There is no replacement for hard work.. Full disclosure, I’m a life long skinny guy, 6 feet tall and 155 lbs. My friends hate me because I can eat whatever I want and never gain a pound. This has its draw backs though. True raw power requires weight. As a firefighter there are things I need to do that require raw power to get done. These tasks would take me longer to do. I have tried for years to put on weight and gain that ever allusive raw power. 5x5 was the answer for me. I would never dodge the hard work and commitment of lifting free weights. I just didn’t know the proper way to put on mass. (And I hated squats). The 5x5 program worked for me. After one year I put on 19lbs. My squat went from a very uncomfortable and awkward 135lbs to 260lbs with perfect form. I am much faster at my job now and my recovery time is a lot shorter. Thank you for putting this app out there for guys like me.

Finally the program I dreamed of. I have tried many workout routines starting at 14 and going till I was 24. I was always trying to find a good fit. I spent a year just sitting at my computer playing games and eating garbage, I am now very out of shape at 25. I wanted to find a workout that made me feel like I was really doing something with my time and that made me stronger and better in daily activity’s, one that will hopefully help me turn my health around. I work in air conditioning sales and installation it’s hard sometimes to fit a good workout in. That’s why I like the 3 day a week setup this program recommends. Also the 45 min to 90 min workouts are not too intense with the rest cycles, but are tough because of the heavy weight. If you are like me you will get impatient the first two months because for that time it felt like the weight was too easy, but I stayed with the program and at the end of the 3rd month I was benching more than my old max weight for 5 sets of 5 not many programs are that fast I tried the 4 day split for a long time and made those kinds of gains in twice the amount of time. So I like the efficiency of the program and the app is so easy to use anyone can do it with less than 10 min playing with it. I also like that this app allows for anywhere between 2 and 6 work days a week so if I don’t have 50 min 3 days a week I can try for 20ish min all days but one instead!

Great app, highly recommend it.. I downloaded this app a long time ago. I finally got around to using it and I’m kicking myself that I took so long. I had been a member of a gym, attending small group sessions with a trainer performing a circuit of mostly machine exercises. A change in jobs made this option inconvenient and expensive for me. I knew that I needed the structure that this kind of program offered, otherwise I would just get bored and frustrated with the experience. This app provides a well-defined, easy to follow plan, with a great interface. Following the program and using the app really simplifies my whole gym experience. Personally, I don’t like having to decide what exercises to complete for how many reps, at what weight, etc. I got the structure that I needed from StrongLifts. Tapping the screen after finishing a set is a helpful mental milestone, the rest timer between sets keeps me focused, and after completing a StrongLifts session I feel like I’ve accomplished something. Far from dreading the experience, I’m already planning my rest, nutrition, and schedule for my next session. My iPhone case has a “steelie” magnet (for a car mount) stuck to the back, allowing me to stick my iPhone to the power rack that I’m using. Very convenient and helpful for keeping track of sets. StrongLifts interfaces with Apple Health to log workout time. I’d like to see interaction with my Fitbit app as well.

Highly recommend!!. I am a 47 year old man. I’ve never lifted before in my life. I was out of shape and overweight. I started the StrongLifts 5x5 workout four months ago. My personal results have been phenomenal so far. The transformation of my body has been nothing short of amazing. I’ve gained way more muscle than I expected in this short of a time. I still have stubborn visceral fat that I am trying to lose so I recently added HIIT on the rowing machine on my off days. I can’t wait to see where I’m at in another four months!!!! Thank you for this workout!!! And the App makes it so much easier than trying to keep track of everything yourself. Do yourself a favor and start the StrongLifts workout, download this app, and once you see how awesome it is, upgrade to the paid version. Very well might be the best ten bucks I’ve ever spent in my life; literally!!

The thing that's kept me lifting for 5 years. I'm a petite woman and there was a point long ago where the weight rooms at the gym seemed intimidating so I would stick to cardio. I've been using Stronglifts for the past 5 years and it's been such a core part of my lifting routine and helped me feel comfortable and supported when I first started. Mehdi, the creator of this app, is also super frigging awesome and is quick to respond to all of my feedback every time I email their support. You can tell he reads through *everything* and really cares about creating a good experience and helping people build their best self. What's more is the app had improved constantly over the 5 years I've used it. It's never at a standstill. 10/10 would recommend.

Best weightlifting app!. I’m a Powerpack user, which has evolved into Pro and has some Pro features. At some point, I will be buying a lifetime Pro subscription because I like the Pro features I have and I want to fully customize my workout beyond A and B programs. Keeping track of a workout routine on notebook paper or a notes app is cumbersome, especially for a beginner. The StrongLifts app is perfect for you if you’re starting up or starting back up a routine, you have the motivation to lift, but need some simple guidance. I’m assuming you know the 5x5 program if you’ve found this app, and it’s a great routine, but what makes the app great is that it evolves with you and is can be used a lifetime. For example, I was running 5x5 with a few accessories until the weight got so heavy I could not complete the workout in the time I had available in my schedule. Five sets with 3-7 min rest became too time consuming for me. The app has allowed me to customize and run the program in a 3x8 and tracks my accessories all in one place. It also runs a progressive load with plate images so I know exactly how much to load the bar each workout. The interface is intuitive and easy to use. While you can argue the merits of a 5x5 vs something like StartingStrength (you can run an SS routine in the app with a Pro membership), the StrongLifts app is supreme.

Awesome, motivating app. I am 54 years old and have tried all types of workout plans over the years and nothing sticks, this is the one! Just completed my 200th workout(app tracks) and can’t wait to start 201. It has everything you would want to track and plan a workout program and advances you through as you progress leaving nothing to think about other then the workout and checking the dots and waiting for the beep. Just get it and pay the fee to unlock the premium features and you will follow a plan like you have never done before. Also you can add any exercise, set, rep into the plan you want if not already included in the huge library if you want to add additional work to a muscle group.

Best weight lifting app no exaggeration. I did stronglifts before years ago before my fitness life took a detour into crossfit. But recently I've concluded that for most schedules and budgets stronglifts is all that you really need. It's blindingly simple, easy to start and stick to, and most importantly IT WORKS. Now, in the past I tracked my progress with a clunky spreadsheet on the phone. It was fine but not ideal. This app has transformed that. There is no typing involved. No planning ahead. Just show up to your gym, open the app, and start checking off completed sets. If you're a novice let me tell you: exercise is actually the easiest part of working out. The hard part is getting started and then sticking with it. At least for me, this app has made those challenges way easier to overcome. Oh and always remember to warm up. The pro version of this app will help you do that too and if you're already paying for a gym membership the additional cost should be basically negligible.

Worked great for years, now it's even better!. I’ve had the app for at least three years, and it has always been rock solid, worthy of 5 stars. However, with the latest updates and features available to the new Pro subscribers, it is absolutely the best fitness app out there. I was hesitant about an annual subscription (I'm not a fan of reoccurring bills) but the one time lifetime fee seemed steep, so I decided to do the annual to try it out. Simply put, I wish I had bought the lifetime to begin with. NOTHING can touch this app. I alternate between the apps default 5x5 program, the Ketogains 5x5, and the Beaxst Program from Jeff Cavaliere (I switch when I plateau). The app allows me to perfectly replicate any program I want, with the set timer to keep me focused, the history to review, and the awesome graphs to kepp me motivated and pushing harder. I can even track my Interval HIIT training that I do a couple of days a week. This is the only fitness app I will ever use.

Great app. Simple and easy to use app for a simple no nonsense lifting program. Note: I bought the power pack, so everything is unlocked for me. Edit: After using this app for over 1 year: I have been using this app in tandem with some cardio work on the off days and I don't make massive gains progress, but I am happy with the results. When people ask me what routine I'm on, this is the app I recommend. It's is simple in execution and yet you can customize your accessory work to meet your personal goals in addition to building strength. Oly lifts, bodybuilding focus, any exercise you want to add can be made to work in the custom assistant exercise settings. Even with my running/rowing cardio I have had some impressive gains in strength over the last year.

Simple, effective and informative. StrongLifts has changed the game for me. No more wandering around the gym figuring out a plan. After taking some time away from lifting it was easy to get back in and just follow the 5X5 program. When you get the app, you’ll get informative e-mails daily from Mehdi with insightful tips and research based knowledge on why the program works, how to stick with it and more. These e-mails help keep you from overthinking and making the program complex or trying to go to fast. My strength has increased, my overall health is better and it just works. The app has images of how to load the bar quickly so no brain work to try to figure out which plates to load. Each movement has a quick reference for form. The app is so simple and the results are great. Just keep it simple.

Focus on the work yourself, this app takes care of all the rest. This app has everything you need, set up intuitively and laid out accessibly. Easy to use, easy to customize workouts, and excellent for tracking progress. Warm up weights and sets are all calculated and increment automatically as you progress; all you need to do is lift the weight. There is also a great wealth of resources including form videos and the stronglifts guide. My workouts and progress tracking have never been so efficient. I can’t recommend this app enough! I wish I had found it much earlier in my fitness journey. As for the program itself, I am just starting week 9 of Stronglifts and I have gained ~15 lbs of muscle, have had to start buying medium shirts instead of smalls, and have noticed visual gains on my body already. The program is tried and tested and will definitely make you gains if you follow as suggested and eat plenty food! Go make those gains!

Made it possible for me to keep lifting!. Why climbing gym went through a couple of strength training instructors and then had none. I had stopped lifting for almost 2 years, and missed it so much but didn’t feel safe doing it. Strong lifts gave me guidance and arithmetic out of it and meant that I was lifting a couple of times a week again and it makes a huge difference in my climbing in my life. It’s simple and easy to use and I look forward to my work out because I know what I’m doing. Your clear articulation of the effort involved in the motivation to keep upgrading and the excellent results I have made an easy decision to say yes to upgrade and give you the subscription commitment. It’s the least I can do in return for what you do for me. Judy

Weightlifting made easy. So I was never a big gym guy. I was more of a marathon runner. The lone runner you know all that. And then one day this guy shows up in my training group and he’s an absolute beast. I don’t usually comment on the appearance of others for obvious reasons, but I could not help myself. I said, where did you get the body and he said StrongLifts. So I looked into it. Then it was a website and a program you on paper on the computer. He didn’t have the app back on. But when I started it, it was amazing. I was doing it during Covid and I ended up squatting 180 pounds. I couldn’t squat the bar when I started. But what I love about the program is it’s very addictive because you see results. When you successfully perform your lift, you add 5 pounds the next time. This quite quickly adds up. Also, it gives you something to do. It tells you exactly what to do every day. You work out three times a week you only do five exercises. There’s videos so you can see exactly how the lift is supposed to be done. The form. And I used to go to a gym and not know what to do. Now with this app, I know exactly what to do every time. I love this app and it’s made me so much stronger.

Consistency is key. I’m 49 y old w a dad bod. I’ve been a semi athlete most my life. I jumped onto programs only to peter out soon enough with little to show for it. I’ve an expensive indoor bike, a bunch of old dvds promising to make me shredded and pdfs in my phone full of all kinds of workouts (all just half done and again not much to show for it) I’ve heard of SL for a while and thought that it too can probably end up in the collections. Not true!!! The ease of the app and the program itself is exactly what I need. No extra bells and whistles but pure meat and potatoes. AND it is structured perfectly with just the right amount of intensity that honestly keeps me wanting to come back for more. The duration and choices of exercises are perfect for my busy schedule and by now my muscle soreness is predictable and easy enough to recover from that I can jump into the next workout w no problem. Also my clothes are fitting a bit better and my posture is on point! I feel great. 5 stars for sure. No woke persons’s feelings were intentionally hurt during the writing of this review

Phenomenal app. The best there is!!!. This is a tremendous product that just keeps getting better and better. Additionally, the support and service from the StrongLifts team is outstanding! I’ve been using this app for many years, and it does exactly as promised. It does the thinking for you and allows you to focus your time and energy on lifting and getting a better workout. I have been lifting for more than 40 years and I received daily emails from the StrongLifts team that are both educational and inspirational. I just can’t recommend this app enough. Even after using the app for many years I signed up for the one year subscription last year because of all the flexibility, it allows you. Not only flexibility in regards to the workouts that are provided but in customizing your own workouts, so that you have everything in one place to include workout history, notes and your next workout planned and ready to go. if you’re trying to decide between the subscription or the lifetime membership, I would recommend saving money and going with a lifetime membership. This app is just that comprehensive and will serve you for many many years to come.

False information in emails. The app is not bad minus some wonky controls if you are an overachiever and want to do both the same day. I was playing around with this app here and there to see if it was recommending anywhere close to what I was actually doing. Along the way you get emails giving you advice while coaxing you to purchase the pro or full version. Then the email gave very misleading almost false information on barbell Vs smith machine. Can you do these exercises on a smith machine? Yes. The difference is in the bar weight and that you are on a fixed plain of travel, this is good for lower weight and beginners looking to get a feel for the exercise. The main difference is you will not work the stabilizing muscles since you won’t be “stabilizing” bar since it’s attached to a machine. Do some research and you will most likely come to the same conclusion. So if it’s feeding false information there it will feed it anywhere to get you to pay. Delete it and find a better app.

Great for the whole family!. My 17 year old son has joined the US Navy, but doesn’t ship out until November 2018. He’s a slender guy, and wants to pack on some muscle before he ships, so my husband and I got a set of free weights for him in November 2017. Searching the Internet for how skinny guys gain weight, I came across StrongLifts and downloaded the app. It was laid out so well for absolute beginners that it encouraged me (female, 40s, not skinny lol) to start lifting. Now my whole family, to include my husband (also in his 40s), our 17 year old son and our 15 year old daughter all lift weights 3x a week. We’re all getting stronger, but not killing ourselves. I’ve not lost weight yet, but I see more definition in my arms and legs, and my jeans are fitting looser, so I’m thrilled! I highly recommend this app to anyone that wants to start lifting weights!

This is it!. First of all the exercise program works, it’s fools proofed. Take some time to read the website, anything that you’d like to know it’s there without fluff, just facts... lots of them. Then the app just makes it easy to implement. I just started working out after 15 years, this program has been perfect. First I did it all in my head, which was ok, then I started using the free app and it got easier (no need to remember weights or count sets, the timer takes care of itself) when I saw that I’ll stick to it, I bought the full version and the time at the gym improved even more, it’s like playing a record and dancing to the music, totally worth it. I’m leaner and stronger in a few months, lifting more weight than some of the longtime regulars at the gym I found when I joined.

Do it for yourself. A superficial view of this program would be one of ignorance, as it goes deeper than pure muscle gain. The 5x5 not only strengthens your body, but if you follow through, it promises to strengthen your mind as well. While this sounds cliché, the amount of time it takes just to get to a 100 pound squat will definitely test your patience. When was the last time you’ve made a year-long commitment to something not involving love? Sticking with this program gives you the drive to continue to look forward in life and expand upon your other goals farther than next week, month, year, etc. to the point where your main focus is to be a better you, no matter the timescale. If I’ve learned this only three weeks in, imagine what you can learn about yourself in three months. So do yourself a favor, and commit to your future.

Great for those that need help working out. This app is great for those that need extra help working out. I’m 35 years old and was very athletic when I was younger. I was so athletic that working out came naturally and I didn’t have to pay attention to what I was doing. Now I’m an adult and my body doesn’t exercise it’s for me. I also don’t remember what I did when I was younger. A friend told me about this app and it’s great! Better than most personal workout instructors. When life keeps me from working out the app notices and lowers my weight so I don’t injure myself! I have a coworker that has a personal workout instructor and they don’t do that when they notice they haven’t worked out a particular muscle group! I stared with the free version and upgraded just to send them money to show how much o appreciate this app.

I hope they keep improving. If you work it on workout days only and back it up and shut it down, works good with no bugs. Sometimes I want to look ahead, which is trickier. It admonishes you for starting the next workout too soon and it will delete your previous logged workout if you forget to hit “Done” before doing something else in the app. No biggie, there is a way to re-enter a workout on a specific day (this is good also if you started 5x5 before getting the app). It also doesn’t remember the google login I use to back it up but instead defaults to my main account so I have to enter everything over again each time. Still gets 5 stars because it does everything it’s supposed to do and the extras like the videos and progress graphs really help and make it fun.

Just keeps getting better. I’ve been on and off this app for years - I often will break to go do 6 months of CrossFit or some other different program. Every time I revisit this app, I’m always impressed with the improvements the team has made. Apple Watch support is a game changer, and the library of movements is so vast now that you can customize your programs about as much as you could hope for. It would be cool to have some more pre-built programs for intermediate and advanced lifters, but until that happens customization is easy enough that you can find any program online and build it in the app. The interface is hands down the best I’ve seen, and the app is all about progressive overload which is the best way to get those sweet gains. Looking forward to seeing the results from my next 12-week cycle. A+++

Motivating and adaptable workout app!. My experience with many workout apps is that they lack customization and have a one-size-fits-all approach. When my husband and I originally used the StrongLifts app two years ago, the app was helpful for me as a new lifter. After a hiatus, we are using the app again, and it has several new features that enhance its adaptability, making it even easier and better to use in my opinion. :) New feature request for the developer: now that I’m more aware of how I lift/how my body responds to lifting, I’m noticing some trends that correlate to my menstruation cycle. Can you add a feature that allows for loading/deloading based on a cycle to optimize training for all the menstruating individuals that use the app? This is a weightlifting issue that is often discussed in women’s groups and the StrongLifts 5x5 for women FaceBook group. (: Thanks for considering the idea and for continued updates to the app!

Great App. This is a really helpful app and I do recommend getting the power pack as well. I feel that I have had better gains using this program that going at it with my own way of doing things. This program not only guides you with what you should be doing each workout session, but you don’t spend as much time doing different things that were actually working against getting stronger. With the power pack I am able to add all of my weight equipment and the app calculates exactly what needs to go on the bar for each workout. Using the app also helps you to stay on track with your strength gain goals by automatically increasing the weights after each successful completion. With the power pack it will also feed Apple Health with your calorie expenditure for each workout.

Best of the Best. I haven’t lifted weights for decades, long before phone apps were available. I started lifting again to lose weight, gain strength and become more fit. I started with a different app but didn’t like it. I much prefer StrongLifts for several reasons. The developer has several very informative articles to help me get started. I had not heard of the 5x5 lift program, so I read the background articles. The developer explained that I don’t need to spend hours working out every day and why the 5x5 works. So, I am following the beginner program. It is easy to follow and easy to fit into my schedule. I find the whole process to be inspiring. Also, support is excellent. They have responded to every email I have sent in less than 24 hours with detailed easy to understand answers.

#1 Favorite; love Apple Watch app, my 2nd year renewal of premium. Overall great app and I love the Apple Watch app too. If I have my phone in hand I will get distracted by other things during a workout. It’s best for me to review the lifts, start my workout and music, put the phone down, and run the workout on my watch. I won my first amateur weightlifting competition at age 44 after using 5x5 for about a year. I was the only guy that showed up to the YMCA for the contest, but I still got the trophy. So, literally I was only competing against myself! Haha. But my point is this isn’t an exercise app, this is a training program that increases weight on each workout until you finally fail some reps, then pauses until you can can complete all reps, and increases the weight again. The library of videos with proper form are amazing training tools. It’s highly customizable. During lockdown i cobbled together a garage gym, first with only dumbbells. All the dumbbell exercises were there. When I finally got a barbell with only a few plates I adjusted those exercises to higher reps for lighter weights.

Excellent lifting tracker. Near perfect, no nonsense, customizable lifting log/tracker. I love the versatility of workouts and sets numbers and how it tracks. The interface is easy to use and read while in the gym. It’s not overly complicated but has almost everything you need. I would like to see more customizable adjustments to workout info from the ones pre loaded and the customized workouts. Being able to to easily adjust plates vs dumbbell vs machine etc. Also, I’d like the addition of cardio based machines like rower, ski, Xebex etc. Last thing I can think of (after only using the app a little over a week) is a distance category in addition to timed (also the time should be able to go higher than 5 minutes with cardio workouts added) and sets. Distance would allow like running and rowing etc but also some weight exercises like farmers carry, lunges, and sled push. Otherwise it’s an awesome app and love using it!

Helpful and well throughout app. This app is so easy to use and works out your workouts but has the flexibility to change or modify. I’ve been using this app for years and it just keeps getting better.

Great app. I’ve jumped in and out of this app for 8+ years and it’s just got better and better. Great customisation features, handy tutorial videos, count down timer, automatic weight increases to list a few of many. I’ve always made good progress using StrongLifts and whenever I’ve fallen out of training it’s my go to to get me back in. Highly recommend

Great improvements. I started using 5x5 on my old iPhone 6. Over 3 years ago. I had a free trial version then purchased for the extra features. It was great until my phone no longer updated. Many glitches but managed a workaround or 2. Finally got a newer phone so I am very happy that I can now use my Apple Watch. I love all the new features in the App that makes my life so much easier and it’s a joy to get back into my workouts again. I’ll be renewing my subscription again this Christmas.

The best way to start strength training. I have been using stronglifts for 170 workouts now. It is the best way for beginners to start. Even though I have moved on to different programming now, I still use the app to track my workouts, progress over time and chase the little gold stars for every PB. The app is super customisable to use however works best for you. I recommend it as a starting point for anyone interested in strength training.

5x5 strong lift workout. Absolutely love this workout!!! Safely and effectively makes you stronger ladies this program works! I have never been able to squat over my body weight without feeling like I’m being crushed. This program gets you strong so you feel the weight is easy to move!! 💛 Highly recommend! NF

What a Journey. I’ve been with Mehdi for years and loved watching the app grow and adapt. I can’t workout without it now. Simple enough for beginners with plenty of form tips and videos, but advanced enough for people who want to change, customise and create their own exercises intervals reps and sets. Thank you for maintaining the app and responding to our queries over the years 💪🏼

Really great app!. This app will help you get muscles quickly and is very simple to use I love it. My only issue is, workout B wouldn’t automatically adjust the weight and I have to keep manually adding the weight each time, but hopefully resetting will fix the bug.

Easy to use, thinks for me. One of my big issues with training is thinking too much. I switch plans, change goals, talk myself out of training. StrongLifts supports a simple, effective training program and simply tells you what to do and when to do it. It’s great, simple and easy to use. Best workout app I’ve tried (and there’s been a few). Pay for the Pro version- less thinking! And it supports the developer.

Perfect app, great workout routine.. This app is very easy to use, but it also has a lot of depth and flexibility. The adjustable timers, the extensive list of additional movements, the way it subtly pushes you to go to the gym and the auto- incrementing are all great reasons to get this app. Well worth the money. Do not hesitate. Just buy it.

Great program. The strongLifts app is dead easy to use and takes the thinking out of programming workouts. The format easy to adjust according to your experience and clear instructions are provided for each exercise if a beginner needs it. I have found the program to be effective in gaining strength and size. Thanks for the work you put into this Mehdi.

Exceeded Expectations. Unrivalled value from a man who just decided to share experience and advice with the world. Others have tried to do the same with the idea of making money their top priority. Mehdi has never made claims that he came up with the concept, nor has he claimed that it’s a long term way of continuing to build strength and muscle. He has however helped millions like me just by simply showing us the way. Mehdi deserves a bigger following.

Still loving this app.. I have been using this app along time now and it’s still great and only getting better with each regular update. The free version is great but if you subscribe then it’s even better and will be the only fitness app you will ever need.

Still strong. 7 years ago this app helped guide me to become the strongest I’d ever been. Time to start that journey again. Simple and addictive tracking and planning with extra features if you want to nerd out on your strength building.

Excellent App. This app is terrific if you use stronglifts 5x5. I particularly enjoy the warm up function and the plate guide. The after sales assistance was also terrific. It takes all the thought out of working out, you turn up to the gym hit the button and you know exactly what your doing.

Simple enough I’ll stick to it. The only weight program I’ve ever stuck to because it’s simple and gets awesome results. Went from 20kg bar to 140kg squat. I always come back to this app and it’s probably going to see me grow old strong over the years.

Good and functional app. Really easy to use, I like how it progressively increases your weight for you so you don’t have to remember what you lifted last session and you get a notification when your rest time is over (even if you’re lost in social media).

Love this app!. Can’t recommend this app or this program high enough to anyone that’s looking to start training and isn’t sure how. SL5x5 walks you through every exercise and workout making it super easy. The app will tell you when to increase your load, when to reload and even tell you how much weight to put on the bar, so you don’t have to do the math. Best of all it has a great apple watch app making it easier to record your lifts, whilst also tracking your heart rate as you work out. I've found this program really enjoyable and flexible enough so that you can progress as fast or slow as you need.

Returning to where it began. StrongLifts has been a part of my weightlifting for over 5 years. Sometimes it sits idle as other apps and programs get a run. But one thing is for sure the usability, functionality and reliability keeps me coming back - and you will too. There have been significant enhancements since StrongLifts 5x5 was initially released and these have made it a customisable app that is feature rich and able to be used regularly. The customisable templates have seriously supported the app - so even when moving on from 5x5 there are enough options to keep using and maintaining all data in one place. Fitness is about routine and this app continues to develop and support maintaining the routine. Mehdi - thanks for keeping me on track!!

Stronglifts 5x5 best way to track workouts. I stumbled upon StrongLifts 10 years ago when I was in high school. It’s a solid program for gaining strength and mass in conjunction with GOMAD which helped me put on 16kg of mass in high school. Since then I have used StrongLifts to rebuild my strength before going into more intermediate programs. I would definitely recommend StrongLifts to anyone starting out.

Great App. This app has an excellent interface which makes keeping track of everything very easy. It follows a great workout program and automatically makes adjustments as required. It also allows for user adjustments to be made adding extra weight as desired to a workout. Whenever I have an extended break from strength training this is the app I always come back to to start my reconditioning. No matter how I am feeling mental on any given day for training this app allows me to keep track, the only thing I really have to think about is counting to 5.

Lots of good, but app has changed a lot!. Had this on Google play for ages, and iOS many years ago. A number of functions became paywalled over time including some stuff like additional exercises which I couldn’t get over as it becomes less flexible than a pen and paper notebook and costs more. It’s good for the timer and progression, but I’m sure there are other options out there with a wider range of options with their basic functionality. Thanks to the dev and founder for getting it to where it is but it’s so weird as to how much is paywalled behind a monthly revenue model now.

Awesome app. I’ve used StrongLifts on and off for a couple of years now and It has helped with gaining strength at a steady pace and is also great after a break to get motivated again. Easy to use app and form vids help out to make sure your doing them correctly. Would highly recommend to beginners as that is how I started.

(Nearly) Perfect App. Great app. Tried them all (well dozen or more), but this strikes the right balance between simplicity and comprehensive. Love the planning & timer etc etc. Two gripes; there are bugs - editing a custom 6-day over two week plan, and the dates keep changing (and back again) when manually assigning day. Very annoying. Second, the sync between devices (ipad/phone/watch) is flakey with it frequently not acknowledging a change on the additional devices. And lastly, a suggestion; it’d be great to have an hrm readout on the screen (and recorded?) so if we’re doing emotm workouts we oldies don’t die!

Excellent. This app rocks. So easy and clear to use, no frills and no bs. After a 5 year break from all fitness due to injuries this has been exactly what I needed to get back into shape. Only 6 weeks in and already seeing and feeling really good results. In another 12 months I will be an absolute beast. Also received great support from the developer when requested last week. Very happy.

Love the program and app. I love this program and the app, I’ve purchased the pro version. I’ve been using this for about a year or two on and off - the only issue I have with the application is the use of accessories or how the app implements them. I don’t seem to be able to delete custom accessories - I have three versions of barbell curls in my app because I can’t delete them, if I add one barbell curl to my routine it adds all of them - the only thing I can think from a developers standpoint is the app is working of a string allocation as opposed to an Id allocation - regardless, very frustrating as you’ve gotta try like 20 times to get the routine as desired.

Best spotter:gym buddy - always shows up. Read as much content from the StrongLifts website. It helps with the motivation. Start light weights and don’t try and think you know better. Log everything in the app and it will do the rest. Best gym and training logging app. Simple to use and if you follow it closely results happen fast.

Great value for money. I used this app about 4/5 years ago and it was good then but it has improved since then with its ease of use, knowledge base, sync and backup. I like the simplicity of this workout but also that I can add other exercises later as I progress to mix it up. I’ll admit I’m a big fan of the foundations and for a lot of people this may appear “boring”. But it gets results and that’s all that matters to me.

Great app & top notch support. Have been using this app for a while and love using it from my Apple Watch. Great app to keep you on track. I had recent issue with expiry not showing correctly. The support was great and the problem was resolved with the latest update. I was kept up to date along the way, so felt very appreciative and supported. Great job all and keep up the good work!!!

Gold standard for training. I’ve been using the 5x5 program for the past few years and have had great results with it, a great program for all training levels, from beginners to those that’s been meaning to get back on a training routine again. Best program and the best app which package the program along with other exercises included if you’re looking to create your own personal program.

Fantastic content but... The app keeps crashing to home, I need to open multiple times again before starting training and trying to view graphs. And also after training has finished and I want to browse the app. During the workout though zero crashes.

Awesome simple and effective. I’m over forty and have significant damage to most of my body from old motorcycle accidents. I was seeing a physiotherapist for a bad back and sore knees who told me to lose weight and put my into lifting to build more muscles and core strength. So I found 5x5 and am now stronger than I have ever been I have almost no pain in my back or knees now after 3 months looking forward to seeing the results after a year. Thank you for this amazing free app and I am buying the full version just to say thanks.

Jim D. After a number of years off training after having kids and a major reconstruction surgery this system has allowed me to fit training in around family life and I’m already feeling and seeing benefits. Mixed in with a healthier lifestyle it’s been the change I’ve needed heading into my 40’s!

Perfect for the beginner. This is so easy to use, no guesswork hoe much to add or when, just follow the directions, eat right & drink plenty of water & get enough sleep, then get strong. Honestly stick to the program, watch the videos if you’re not sure about form, and you can’t go wrong

Amazing support and a great exercise routine!!!. Ok so I thought I had an issue with my subscription I sent off an email expecting I wouldn’t get a response for weeks at best. Mehdi contacted within hours. Fixed the issue no problem. I’d like to add this is the only work out that has worked for me. It’s simple, fun, and IT WORKS. I particularly love how each time you go to the gym you add just a little weight. Getting started is the hardest bit. Initially your lifting light and it’s easy to make that start. You feel good and strong after a few weeks, by the time it gets hard your addicted. You don’t want to miss a work out because you want to add weight. Your body adapts as you lift more. Thanks again Mehdi

The best approach to gaining strength. I love this program so much. I’m so pumped that I hit PB’s every session or every other session. I love the fact it’s so very instructive on form. It is a massive help to have this program and to help me achieve my fitness and health goals. And I love Mehdi’s emails and tips. This is a must have. It’s less than the cost of a magazine which is just absurd.

A few things have crashed, but I still enjoy the app. Recently I turned off the increment function on a few workouts, gone in to the app later to turn them back on, however the app slider button keeps locked and won’t allow me to change my option. If you could fix this the app would be better.

Excellence. StrongLifts is the best workout app imo. It’s intuitive while also being extremely flexible, suitable for absolute beginners and the sky is the limit. There are countless templates and exercises built into the app which you can modify or mesh together to suit your needs. The default program, however, is extremely approachable for beginners. I recommend using the history>calender to track your consistency, you can gamify it a bit by trying to get a consistent pattern like pictured in the preview images on App Store.

This program and app will save you. I haven’t felt this enthusiastic about gym in over 10 years. It is so so inspiring because Mehdi has thought of everything. The app is perfect - the best gym app I have ever seen. The 2.5 kilo increase every session is fantastic because it is slow, but hugely motivational. It allows your core and stabilising muscles to strengthen as you go. I started squatting at 65 kilos after I had injured my lower back in 2016. But starting off light, gradually increasing and using Mehdi’s form guide, I am now lifting 130kg. Still not much for a guy my age but for me it is a massive achievement and my legs look way better. Give this a go - you will absolutely not regret it.

Great app and program. I love SL5x5. I've found this program really enjoable and flexible enough so that you can progress as fast or slow as you need. Program aside, the app is brilliant and plans your workouts for you, so all you need to do is show up and lift. Best of all it has a great apple watch app making it easier to record your lifts whilst also tracking your heart rate as you work out.

From zero to 1 year lifting. Changed body weight, shape, strength, fitness from total beginner, zero experience to 1 year+ of consistent training. Using only the App, website, uploading to Facebook group workout video and having community give feedback. Results 74kg chubby small guy to 80kg muscular frame, lean muscle mass defined. 34yo, 0 lifting experience prior to app, tried a few PTs & amateur workout groups that didn’t help, this is it! Keep going, page 1 of my apps. Tracking progress:history page really helps.

Perfect for beginners!. Everything you need right here to get started with a weights program if you’ve never lifted before. Takes all the guesswork out and guides you through the program simply and elegantly! One tip: if you use it for more than 1-2 weeks, you really need the paid version with access to the warmups...

Best Weight Training app I've used!. Great app - I like how simple it is to navigate, its very clean and uncluttered. The warm up section is great - something that I often neglect, however I won't from now on. Also like the reminder function for when rest periods have expired, much simpler than either using the gym clock or a watch and getting distracted. Looking forward to continuing my strength training journey with this app. Five Stars

Amazing program. I’ve been powerlifting for a number of years and i always find myself coming back to this program. (with the addition of my own accessory work) only thing I’d recommend for advanced lifters is running a deadlift volume program along side this. Helped me reach a 560kg total and national records.. BUY THIS APP

Great app, excellent way to get started at the gym. Well designed and easy to use. Program is powerful for the simplicity. Probably never would have lifted weight without it. I drifted away from the gym for a while and when I came back my power pack was still here along with all my history. Great long term support so if your unsure l just give it a go! Eventually I guess I’ll progress to a different workout and that will prompt me to upgrade to the pro subscription which I’d be happy to do.

Great flexible app and keeps getting better. I highly recommend this app. I’ve been using it for over 2 years. It has preset workouts, but also lets you customize everything, including your workout schedule, exercises, weights, sets, reps, standard sets, drop sets etc. Its fully flexible and with regular updates it keeps getting better. The screens are so well organized and easy that I don’t need to wear my glasses to use it. Well done to Strong Lifts, your hard work shows and it has helped me get some great results at the gym.

Good support! And it works.. I’ve been using StrongLifts for 12 months. I love that it’s a simple workout with easy to use interface. Forget the fads - just stick to the large big movement and stay consistent. When I went from 1-2 workouts a week to 3 consistent workouts I saw a rapid gain in strength. I like that you can add some of your own exercises. The only suggestion is that added exercise should be able to be categorised as cable or dumbbells rather than just Bar or body weight, but this is a very minor thing. Once I had to get support as I had lost the in app Powerpack purchase. I had a response in less than 48hrs and was able to solve the problem quickly. I’ve put some friends onto this app. They are encouraged by the fact that that even though I’m smaller, I can out lift them!

Amazing workout and app!. I’m currently on my 15th workout and am squatting more then I ever have! Feeling stronger throughout the body in general and am not spending useless time in the gym anymore! This app helps with anything and is truly a game changer for me! I’ve been recommending it to my family and mates

Beginners friendly. I have not been to the gym in decades. This program is so easy to follow and after 3 weeks I can see and feel improvement in my body. $15 is not too bad if you compare it to some of the other programs available

It’s a mess. Can’t report bugs on the website, can’t restore purchases because it’s a bug, history has disappeared despite being forced to sync with Apple ID years ago when that became available. Timers broken and don’t work properly if you change the order of work due to equipment availability. Been using “Strong Lifts” for 10+ years and sorely disappointed after returning to strength training after a forced 3 month hiatus due to an undiagnosed condition. Any suggestions for an alternative that does work?

Still the best. Hands down the best all round weight training app ever. You’ll surprise yourself how quickly (and safely) you’ll progress with your training. Pay attention to Mehdi’s advice on PROPER form! Listen to your body. I just wish this app was around when I was younger.

Solid App. Excellent app. Skips the gimmicks that other programs use and just hits what you need to progress in the gym and get stronger. The emails are really informative and well researched.

Great guide!. This app helped me return to workout after 3 long years, a great simple product but keeps you check and just is what is required, nothing unnecessary

Amazing app. I have used this program for years. I setup for 5 days per week, but since the app is so flexible I use his regular 5x5 but add in my own exercises the other 2 days, which is just ATG stuff.

The best weightlifting app. The best app for lifting I have used. Clean integration with Apple Watch, easy to use, and just the right level of ability to customize workouts. Pro version is worth it for extra features and to support the app!

The Five Pillars. Hey everyone, I’ve been using the app on and off for a few years. Lack in consistency is me, not the app lol, this program is by far the most straight forward and transparent program a person can do period. At the start, it’s just five workouts spread out over three days a week with 5lbs added to each successful session. Yes, it will tell you to start with an empty bar, yes this is incredibly embarrassing and and easy and yes unfortunately, you might feel like a goober when you first start. The whole reason why you are starting with an empty bar is to learn prober form and technique. I have hurt myself a few times while doing this program because I wasn’t patient and added weight to fast. If you download this app being a total n00b to the gym then there is no better program in my opinion. This app, paired with Mark Rippetoe’s coaching on starting strength AND the 5x5 guide in the app will set you on the path to Squatting 500lbs. This program if followed correctly will turn you into a monster. If you download this app and follow the program for a few months and quit because you wanna take gear be an influencer and look like Thomas Delarer, ask yourself this. Is it cooler to have a six pack? Or is it cooler to be stronger then everyone else at your gym? In a world filled with misinformation and delusional dreams of grandeur, I swear that you will not find a more honest and open write of this program written by Medhi. What are you waiting for? These boats won’t carry themselves son!

Amazing. I never write reviews for apps, but stronglifts has kept me on track and provided great results. Thanks Medhi!

Perfect. Best app ever

Pro version is worth it, if you’re serious about your gym habit. I didn’t know how useful the pro version of this app would be until I had used it for 6 weeks. I’ve modified the program to add accessory movements that target weak parts of my body, switched up the training frequency to match my schedule, watched the form videos when I was confused during a set, and did it all without struggling through the app. Oh, and I also watched the numbers on the weight graphs go up. Honestly, I don’t know what more they could add to improve the app beyond adding dead hangs and other mobility focused movements. This app has worked well for me the last 6 consistent weeks, so I’ll continue using it. You’ll only get value from this app if you use it consistently.

Didn’t calculate starting weights correctly. Recommended I started with less than I can already lift - I tried the setup process twice and double checked the units. Needs an update

Apple vs Garmin connect. App is not terrible. I do like it but you can only connect it to Apple Watch and not Garmin

Love it!. Working out is so easy with strong lifts

Very useful. Excellent app works well and fairly easy to use

Lifting. It’s good as a plan but I like to workout multiple days in a row and this seems to be just every second day.

Amazing but for glitches. Great concept, love the design of the app and the workouts. Would be 5 stars but the app is often glitchy and freezes

Amazing. Amazing updates and sync with Apple Watch. 10/10

Decent app. Decent app, low rating due to subscription based pro version.

The Best workout App. Period.. I don’t often pay for many apps, but the paid subscription of the StrongLifts app is 100% worth it. Best app I’ve ever seen for fitness!

The best strength training app. The best one, and the (actually) free version is BY FAR the best free app of its kind.

Bait and switch. I previously paid for this app outright but got convinced to switch to the subscription for an additional fee with the promise of new features “soon”. Well that was months ago and I’m paying twice for the same thing I had before - none of the new features advertised like Apple Watch support. App works well but I don’t like being coerced into paying for something twice.

Easy to use. Excellent app. This workout app is simply excellent. I have been using it for a few years now and has helped me a lot. It’s a workout trainer in your pocket. Thanks for the time and effort put into this. Cheers!

Exactly what I needed. Simple interface and effective. Makes lifting simple. See gains quickly without injury. Like the free version, so I paid for full version and have no regrets, as the added features make it even easier to use.

One of the best apps I’ve ever used. This app is beautifully simple and functional. It makes lifting accessible. I love it!

Awesome.. Totally awesome. Seriously. Go on and do it...

Love the app. I just want to thank you for this great app. It helped me get back in the routine. Now i am on the path to make some gains!!

Works EXACTLY like it should. Excellent balance between minimum required functionality for free and good subscription price for the extras. Never crashes, never loses data, naturally does exactly what you want it to do.

Paid for premium not seeing all the features. The free app works fine, can I get my money back for the premium? There are no accessory exercises, it’s literally the same app as the free one. What a rip-off, scam

Solid app. Purchased a year. I like it

StrongLifts is awesome!!!. I’ve been using StrongLifts for months and it’s been phenomenal. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on trainers in the past, but have seen the most results in the past six months using this app. Easy to use, great explanations, and lots of wonderful progress tracking data. I can’t say enough great things about StrongLifts!!!

Good. StrongLifts is really good

Waste of money!. Weights lag and reset to defaults (45lbs) consistently!!! I wish i never bought the pro version!

Very unresponsive. Unresponsive on iPhone 6S

Great app!. Very good for creating a workout and keeping it short. Timed reminders on my phone and watch allow me to keep on track

Notification. I had given a review saying it would be good to have an audible notification when it’s time for another set. It was my fault, i had the iphone audible notification button ton off. It could be an idea to add a little text to say to check that option for an audible notification. Thanks! Great app!

Daily Emails. The app itself is great, but the daily emails answering questions are what set this program apart. All very well written and cited with referenced studies. Initially I blew them off, and maybe they changed after they were on hiatus for a couple weeks, but since then I’ve found them to be very interesting and informative.

Nice app. First time using it today I felt more organized and had a sense of direction as to my workout program

Greatest app ever. I remember I was skinny and couldn’t even deadlift 135… but after following this app and the workout for my body type… guess what happened… with consistency and discipline…. I reached 405 for dead lift & squat… thank you Mehdi !! God bless you and your app! Please keep upgrading your amazing app !! Thank you !!

All you need. I’m 47, I used to run and lift occasionally and love always got injured. When I tried StrongLifts, l do my workouts in the efficient manner and save time. Complete and friendly user App

Poor. Poor

Lost all workouts twice. Can’t continue to use the app, lost all progress twice and too frustrated to continue. Waste of a purchase for the Power Pack.

New to the gym. Been using StrongLifts for two months and have really enjoyed its simple to use functions that take the thinking out of the equation. Went back to the gym and the program automatically recognized that I’d been off for 6 days, where it preceded to strongly suggest I de-load for this workout. Didn’t even know it did this and as I’m new to this I didn’t even think about de loading. I picked this app over others because of its straight forward approach, plate calculator and warmup menu. Added bonus is the daily emails answering most of the questions that I’ve conjured up with concise answers and factual information to support positions being answered.

Awesome layout. Very good UI/UX. This app is great for any program. I don’t follow 5x5 but this app is the best I’ve experienced in terms of tracking free weight workouts. The design is top notch, simple, and smooth.

Get Strong Fast. Whenever I do these workouts I feel better at work. Builds back muscles for driving. Sometimes a miss a couple weeks, but then I de-load as suggested and I am right back on track. ps It’s ok to plateau staying at the same weight is fine. This app builds you up when you’ve been slacking. I start at 105, build to 120, stay there, get busy for a couple weeks. Star right back at the beginning. :)

Awesome. Free version is so good and functional gonna purchase the pro soon

Keeping me on track. Love the app. Takes all the calculations out of your sets. Great reference videos all in one place!

Set it, forget it, love it.. I was skeptical at first. I'm new to lifting and I tend to obsess over data and research when trying new things. After bumbling around in the gym trying to run my own program I downloaded StrongLifts and let the app do the thinking for me. I've been at it for almost a year and the results are great. It's so easy just let the app run and do what it tells you to do. I don't write many reviews but if you're new to lifting and want a time efficient program that makes you stronger this is the one. I'm 52 and I've never been stronger. I wish I had this 20 years ago. Can't say enough good things.

Unable to tap options. Buggy. I am trying to create my own workout. I can’t tap on workouts to edit them. This bug I’ve experienced in other options in the app and I gave up but this is just ridiculous now. I should be able to tap normally if I tap “add workout” for example, it only works if I hold for a few seconds.

Where are the features I paid for. I cannot locate all the extra exercises that were mentioned whe upgrading to the pro edition. It looks exactly the same as the free addition to me.

A rare gem. A rare gorgeously styled native app. StringLifts is a breath of fresh air amongst a sea if cheap cross platform apps. Easy 5/5 (pun intended).

My go to. Simple, effective, and focused. Great results each time I incorporate between programs to shake it up!

StrongLifts. I’m a 58 yr old woman I have always exercised and looked after myself I’ve had many trainers I started this app April of this year and have already surpassed a lot of my personal bests when I was with my trainers Love love love this app It’s so user friendly and support is always there if you have questions Thank you so much Jules

Great program. I have worked out my adult life. Weight lift on machines, cardio machines, cardio classes, ran 5ks and half marathons, etc. I’m 55 now. My shoulder was hurting from using a mouse all day. So, I started this program 8 weeks ago and am squatting and deadlifting more than ever in my life. I have more muscles in my chest and back than ever before. This is a great program. I’m an engineer and can do math but first thing in the morning I don’t want to keep track if I’m on 3rd or 4th set or how to get the weights to add to 195, this app visually shows me the necessary weights on each end of the bar. It also runs a timer between sets so I know when 3 mins is up. This is the best app purchase I have ever made.

The best option for no hassle workouts. I don’t want an AI guessing what I should do. I don’t want a ton of features I’ll never use. I need a straightforward program that’s proven to work. 5x5 is that program and StrongLifts was by far the nicest, most straightforward, app on the market. If you want to get in l, do your workout, and get out, then StrongLifts is what you want. After one month I bought a lifetime membership realizing I’d be using this thing for years. And Medhi is very responsive and cares about your feedback. Also a plug for the daily emails. They are awesome, quick reads, that have been one of my favorite emails to read every morning.

Don’t trust the negative…. There is nothing wrong with the app.(Read this 3 times!) If you see anything that is fewer than 5- stars ⭐️ within the rating section-please skip that! There is a myriad of reasons why the app may malfunction!! YOUR device, YOUR attitude, YOUR expectations may be the few culprits to mention first! Therefore, before you “jump the gun”,(pull your sword, grab your machete) and leave the negative rating- please contact the developer. You will be shockingly surprised by how quickly the developer responds, and how patient he is while answering your questions in the most diplomatic way!!! Highly customizable, incredibly reliable app is clearly the FLAGSHIP app for the 5x5 junkies!! To the developer: Exceptionally well done! Bravo!!!

Great Workout App!!. I have tried so many different workout apps and this one has me hooked. It’s super easy to understand and use immediately. It’s all about progressive overload with a focus on just a handful of core movements. For the first time I have been able to increase all of my compound lifts safely and effectively. The app starts you at a low weight to dial in your form and slowly adds weight to push you higher each workout. I was stuck for the past several years with little to no increase. This app has already added more weight than I’ve ever been able to do! I really love this program!

Nice App and Program. I’ve used StrongLifts before, probably 15 years ago. Demanding program and I increased all my max PRs. I started again on the program a few months ago because I wanted something that was straightforward and focused on the basics. I’m 48 and the program is just what I need. I do it twice a week now and have cardio days in between. My PRs have surpassed what I did 15 years ago. There are other reasons for that besides StrongLifts but I do give a lot credit to the program. No frills, get in and do the work and you will improve. The app makes it all incredibly easy down to telling you what plates to use when to get the weight right.

Good App, Buggy Apple Watch Integration. Been using stronglifts (with the subscription) for awhile now. Pretty great app to give you a straightforward, no-nonsense routine to get started weight lifting. The simple routine and clean app are a huge win for removing the difficulty and guess work when you're just getting started on your workout journey. App gives you everything you including a default starter routine, videos with proper lift forms, and the ability to modify your routine and add additional exercises as you progress. Only real complaint is that Apple Watch integration seems to be buggy or entirely broken on any given day. Small QoL feature perhaps, but still a frustrating thing to not have working. 4/5, would recommend

Senior citizens CAN weight lift!. If one Googles “weight lifting” along with “senior citizens” a lot of misinformation will appear, in particular that senior citizens should not lift weights. Hogwash! Anybody remember Jack Lalanne? In any case, StrongLifts is an excellent protocol to get started. I was in my early 60’s when I started using StrongLifts. I am 71 now and going strong! I have taken sabbaticals from it from time to time, doing group training, but StrongLifts definitely makes you stronger, while many of the gym sponsored classes do not. And don’t forget to watch the videos. They really help with form. You don’t want to hurt yourself. If you follow the protocol and do it with proper form as the weights get higher, you will get stronger safely

Wow!. I’ve tried many tracking apps over the past year and I gotta say that this app finally took all the things I’ve liked about previous ones and put them all in one place. The flexibility of custom programs is outstanding, the way to input data is fast and convenient, the Lock Screen notification (which I haven’t seen on other apps) is awesome. The only things I’d like to see that isn’t already a part of this app is badges for lifting achievements and color themes but that’s just because I think they are fun. Great work, I can’t wait to see where this app goes as I will be sticking around for a while. Would recommend to anyone!

Great app for beginners. Weight-lifting has always intimidated me because I’m used to doing 95% cardio for my workouts and didn’t know any one the powerlifting moves or feel comfortable trying them. This app has really helped me get started because the workouts are simple, straightforward, and they hit the big muscle groups. The weight recommendation was very helpful to me when I started because I had no idea what was an appropriate weight to start with. The videos showing form for each move are also helpful. Overall, I’m super happy with this app, it’s helped me overcome my fear of lifting, stick with the workouts because of the simplicity and track my progress as I go.

53 yr old man new to weights. I've been in the military for over 30 years and is always in good shape. I did a lot of cardio type exercises and of course lot's of push-ups and sit-ups but never weights. It just never appealed to me and I may have even been a little intimidated in starting later in life as I really had no idea where or how to start and I'm not looking to make myself the next Rock or Arnold Scwarzenegger (back in his prime). I just want to tone and get stronger and this is definitely doing it. I feel great and still compliment with cardio and the app walks me through what I need to do and how to do it so I'm not self conscious at the gym. I've seen a few other apps, but I believe this is without a fount the best.

Beginner powerlifting. This is a decent beginners powerlifting routine. I usually replace the secondary chest and back exercises with ones that are translate better to the actual lift they are supplementing. For example instead of using the barbell row I’ll do deficit deadlifts one workout and rack pulls on another. Instead of overhead press I do dumbbell incline press and bench decline. And instead of just increasing 5lbs each workout I’ll go ahead and do a perceived effort approach. I’ll increase weight until I feel that I have one left in the tank and continue my sets at 90% of that weight. One day I could be feeling good and make it up to 250 bench and the rest of my sets would be 225 another day 225 could be difficult and I’ll be working at 205 (always make sure you can do one more rep)

Solid so far with great customer service. I have used a few different workout apps, and this one is very straightforward and quick to load. I like how it is laid out and shows the set reps with very easy interface to adjust anything I need. I’m only 3 workouts in on the free version, but loving it. I am using the free version and erroneously reached out about what I thought was a bug. Mehdi was lightning fast to respond and look into what I was talking about, and gave very thorough instructions and guidance as to what I was seeing. I’m already very pleased with this and am heavily considering upgrading to the paid version. Keep up the good work!

Easy and effective. I’m a 64 year old man and I still function as a soccer referee. I needed a workout regimen that would improve my strength, and keep me fit, while not affecting my ability to run run on the soccer field and keep up with play. I’m now 6 weeks into StrongLifts. I am noticing that my speed and endurance on the field have improved. The app makes my workout regimen simple. I added a couple of simple add on exercises to increase my core strength with some additional ab work. I miss the daily emails. They kept me focused on consistency. In order to support this effort, I went ahead and purchased the pro version of the app. It’s a small price to pay for the knowledge and motivation I get from StrongLifts 5X5.

Amazing. I’m a 46 year old man who has spent lots of time in the gym since I was a teen. I was an endurance athlete so I never wanted to carry that much extra weight into the season so I would bulk up over the winter for strength gains before I leaned out after ramping up the cardio. Last year I found this app and was able to gain so much strength while maintaining my overall fitness that I did not return to endurance training. It feels too good to be this strong. The emphasis on recovery is consistent with professional elite athletes that have their own physicians, coaches, and tech to provide the largest possible advantage. I would love to see a dietary tracker and nutrient recommendations for timing and quantity as a companion to this workout plan.

Great Job Mehdi!!!!(Please Fix). (((FIXED))) Thank You!!! Unable to sign in using Facebook, I sign in and it just sits there... when going back and skipping sign in I get an error that says oops unable to sign in. Minor problem though... Thank you for fixed weight adjustment. ((Update)) using iPhone X and 11.2 iOS. Weights are not automatically increasing anymore. If you complete a set it sets your next weight as the same weight. Checked settings and I have it setup correctly to increase with successful lifts. Easy to use, works perfectly!!! Still working great!!! Looking forward to future updates and upgrades. Current Version just keeps getting better.

Almost perfect.. After using this app for three weeks, i have found it to be almost perfect. The lifts are great. The user interface is easy navigate and to use. Very well laid out. The only reason for 4 stars is this... I feel that warming up is an integral part of lifting. Not warming up I feel can be counterproductive, even dangerous. I think the warmup sets should be included without paying. I understand that the developer and others deserve to be paid, that's their right. But it can be dangerous to not warmup. I think from a safety perspective, this should be included. I'm okay with all other features being locked until paid for. I would rather have warmup sets instead of the timer. The timer is a great feature. Why not put that behind the paywall, and swap it for warmup sets? Again, that's the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5. This app is great. Update 11:20:17 This app now syncs with apple health. The help and feedback i received from the dev was prompt and helpful. They even replied back just to check and see if an update solved my issue. It did! So now the app is closer to being perfect. 5 stars for being a perfect as they can get.

Simple & Effective. This is what most of us need! There are dozens (if not hundreds) of lifting programs out there. Sure, you could tweak this or add that, but most of us are stuck in a cycle of TOO MUCH information and we end up not being consistent because we are confused about ‘which is best’. The ‘best’ is the one you will do consistently. And this program & app are simple which is what 90% of us need. Unless you’re ALREADY a big strong lifter this app & program is for you. It will help you get there. Side note: this is a strength program that sits right between really low reps for strength and higher reps for hypertrophy (size). You can also pay for the program and choose the power pack with accessory work that will help you with size.

The best app for lifting hands down. The only one you’ll ever need. I started lifting 8 years ago with the StrongLifts 5x5 program. Since then I’ve moved on to all kinds of different programs/routines. The one thing that’s stayed the same is that I’ve always used this app to log my workouts and track my progress. This app is so much more than just a companion app for the SL5x5 program. It’s hands down the most simplistic, user-friendly lifting app for any program. You can make your own program in the app. It has every feature you need and I’ll be using it for everything for as long as it’s available.

Used to be 5 stars. I’ve used this app for the 5x5 program a few times. I usually do the 5x5 once or twice in the year so it’s been a while since I used it. The last time I used it, it worked fine on my Apple Watch. Unfortunately, since I have an old Apple Watch, the app is no longer supported on my watch. This is a pretty big stinger. I originally used the app only on my phone and once I got the Apple Watch it made the workout move so much smoother. Contemplating moving on from this app rather than paying to get a new Apple Watch just to use it. You don’t need the app to do this workout. It’s actually very simple without it, the app just takes some of the weight off your back (figuratively speaking)

If you are serious about getting in shape read on.... Being someone who is now broken the 50 year old mark, health and exercise has become very important to me. Having said that I have been on an endless search for just the right combination of ease of use and results and let me tell you it is right here. I have tried many other subscription services that had me running all over my gym to perform certain specialty exercises that usually involved having to wait until a price of equipment is free. Not any more..... This program allows me to achieve greater overall results without traveling more than four feet within the facility. It is fabulous! I have been guilty of shying away from the compound exercises and sticking to more “boutique” movements because a certain bodybuilder said this was the way to gain mass and and definition. Baloney!! Let me tell you this program systematically works all of the right parts to accomplish what you are looking to do. Also I will tell you there is not another site on the web that provides as much quality information as Stronglifts... Guaranteed. Follow the program = happiness. Great job and thank you!!

great app and teacher. This is a great app. I stopped using it a few months ago due to serious tendonitis from the military press, so I am interested to see if I can exchange pullups or something for the military overhead press which I cant do anymore as I cant risk another injury. The shoulders are tricky you have to be careful not to overtrain. Mehdi is a good teacher the content is clean and easy to understand. One reason I gave 4 stars is I wish you could turn off automatic increment increase or at least slow it *way* down. It increases *way* too fast imo and tbh I think this is one reason I injured my shoulders. Like maybe have a reminder go off once a week recommeding a 5-10 pound increase but its your choice to increase it. Still, a very good app.

Makes it easy to stay motivated and progress. Love the 5x5 StrongLifts app! I started with the free version which is totally serviceable but ultimately decided to go for the annual subscription to support the program but also get access to automatic weight plate calculations. While yes I could do the math in my head, I don't actually really want to spend the time and mental energy doing that, and just want to transition between sets easily. There's also helpful videos demonstrating the movement and form of different exercises in case you need to check. I love the simple but useful ability to track reps, sets, and rest and see historical graphs to give another sense of progress. The +5lb progressive overloading each workout is great to safely progress and get stronger. I don't have to worry about lifting something potentially way over my safe handling capabilities. If you're not familiar with the StrongLifts 5x5 program, I really encourage you to read more about it on their official website. It's a great for beginners to get into lifting heavy and focusing on efficient and important compound lifts.

Best strength program for beginners/intermediates. I’m 14 weeks in this program and still making progress. There are several reasons why this program works, but the main ones are its simplicity and respect for your body’s natural overall structure. As for the app itself, two things it nails: (1) it does all the math progression for you, including responsible deloads when you fail (and then you come back stronger and beat the previous limit, which is evidence that this thing works) and (2) I love the connection with my Apple Watch: with a single tap, I can switch from rest to work and never lose the count. Highly recommended!

Love core features, accessories is bug city. This app is great, it keeps me motivated and on track at the gym. It tells you exactly what you need to do. Helps beginners especially to not feel lost at the gym. That being said, I would love for the app to be more customizable. I am doing ice cream fitness, which is basically stronglifts plus a few accessories. Adding accessories is kind of weird, and getting them to appear in the correct order is a nightmare. Also, if it's a 3x5, all the bubbles will still show as empty instead of 2 being disabled. Also, the app doesn't chart any accessories. Also there is no support for fractional weight. This is key for curls and overhead press. If there were a github for this app I would gladly contribute.

Great flexible app for nearly any lifting workout. Thank you for putting this program together and creating the app. You have enabled my sons and myself to learn about weightlifting in a safe and disciplined way. We are all benefiting from your work! When the app allowed me to start making my own A/B workout, and all the different types of lifts got sorted (body weight vs. barbell, etc.), it become really useful. While Mehdi may not approve ;-), I have customized my program easily using the app, and it makes it very simple to hit the weights without having to think through a spreadsheet. This is why I continue to pay the annual fee.

Favorite lifting app. I really like how easy this app makes tracking my lifting. I open up the days workout and jump into a warmup and I can just listen to my music and wait for the chime. I like that it breaks down how much weight to load onto the barbell for each lift and how easy it is to record a set. With the upgraded paid version the ability to incorporate accessory work has also been a worthwhile feature for myself. I can target some corresponding accessory work and still be done in under and hour and on my merry way. For a while the app was having a hard time communicating with my Apple Watch but that seems to be resolved now. If you are looking for a simple program that is easy and fun to follow this is a strong contender.

51 Female. I just finished my first 5x5. I made a resolution to get back into a workout schedule when I turn 50 then the pandemic hit. Depression sets in and everything feels impossible. I found this last night on the Internet and was really encouraged by the simplicity and the honesty of Mehdi’s words. I think I was setting expectations too high making it too easy to fall short. I’ve always been slender and in good shape with pretty good muscle tone, but I mean let’s be honest I said how old I was in the title. I started working out when I was 15 years old and I have had an active lifestyle whether in the gym or other sports and activities. I hope this is something that I can stick to I’m really looking forward to it.

Make working out exciting again!. Over the last couple years I’ve dabbled in the gym. I would aimlessly wander the gym and hop on a variety of machines. Every once in awhile I’d try out some “program” I had found on the internet, but would only stick with it for a couple of weeks before getting burnt out. This 5x5 StrongLifts app has been a game changer for me. I look forward more than ever to getting into the gym and “leveling up” my workouts. The app is super simple to use and the tracking over time is really cool to see your progress. I’ve only been using for about a month, but I expect to stick with this for a long time. Even considering purchasing the pro version! Worth the download 100%!

Best fitness app I’ve ever used. I think this is the first app review I’ve ever written, I like it that much. Getting back into lifting after a few years out of the gym, I knew I wanted to start with Stronglifts. I’m hesitant to shell out money for an app but I did the trial and immediately knew I would pay the full price. It does all the basic workout tracking very well, but these are the extra features I absolutely adore: -easy to access advice on improving particular muscle groups and add targeted lifts to your program -short videos showing correct form -shows what plates to load for correct weight, because let’s be honest I don’t want to do the math while I’m working out -automatically progresses the weights in your workouts, including warmup sets and adding deloads when you fail a lift (and recommends a deload workout if it’s been a week since you last worked out) -if you have a support question, quick email response from Mehdi (the designer of the program) -stats area to see charts on your history is very nicely designed I love this app. Buy it.

Latest Update made two portions worse. I’ve been a user of the app for just over five weeks. And I have LOVED it. UNTIL I just got the update from three days ago. The Workout page no longer shows the weights for the upcoming workouts. You have to click on the individual workout to see that. The History page now looks like the Workout page. And it also does NOT show the weights you used. Not only do you have to click on the workout to see the weights, you have to click on an arrow multiple times to see the weight just for that one lift. In regards to these two screens, the OLDER version was SO MUCH BETTER. I can’t even describe how much better the older version was. I noticed another complaint about the newer version and the reply was to delete the app (after logging in to save your data), and reinstalling it. I tried that. Didn’t help these two issues. I did send a couple of emails prior to finding this Review on the App Store. PLEASE fix these two pages and restore them to how they were on the previous version. Jim in Texas

One of my best apps. I just hit a 2 star rating by accident and followed it with a 5 star rating, sorry to the developer. I just wanted to say that this app is reliable and never has crashed. Using for almost 4 weeks now. Sure, you can do everything with a training journal (which I normally use) but this makes it easier to stay on the path and to calculate weights, and I don’t even have to use a separate timer now. My phone is smaller than my stack of journals and I hope to export all of the results into spreadsheets instead of writing it all out. I used a program like this 20 years ago and it worked really well, hoping to cut some time in the gym and get results now that I am older.

Love the app and the program; watch is nice but laggy. I love the StrongLifts program, and the app is great, and makes it very easy to follow the program. It adds weight automatically, gives you rest timers, tells you what combinations of plates to use. It’s very nice and well thought out. The watch app is often VERY laggy however. When you finish a set, you tap the watch to log the set and start the rest timer. But the watch app will sometimes take 2-3 seconds to register the tap—so long that it makes you feel like it didn’t work. There’s an animation that’s supposed to play—the circle drawing itself—but often that is late or doesn’t happen. It’s a small thing but it’s weird!

Timer. Edit: Hi! I understand that if it was a success, it would be a 3 min rest but is there a way you can bring back the timer breakdown into three: 1:30 if easy (success), 3:00 if hard (success), and 5:00 if failed (fail). Sometimes the first few sets are easy so I only have to rest 1:30 but by the last two sets I don’t want to go back into the setting the timer to 3:00 min rest just for the last two sets. I feel like the old timer was a lot more useful in terms of resting time. If you could please consider bringing back that timer it would truly be appreciated! Overall, wonderful app!

Don’t wait any longer!. I’m 50 years old and haven’t been to a gym in 2 decades. While I felt great, I realized I had lost a significant amount of strength through aging and inactivity. 3 months ago I bought used weight equipment & downloaded this app. I started with just the 45lb bar. My goals: 1) Don’t get injured, 2) Don’t burn out, 3) GET STRONGER!!! The app makes strength training very simple & easy to understand. Only takes a few minutes to customize it to your workout preferences. I upgraded to the PR0 version and added pull-ups and dips. That’s all there is to it. It’s so simple to use too. The app does all the math and record keeping for you. I really like the built-in timer that shows you how much time has elapsed between sets. There are graphs to illustrate your progress. Want to see how many times you’ve worked out last month? Just look at the calendar! It’s all in there. My journey is just getting started. The STRONGLIFTS app allows me to focus on solely on my workout. I just show up, and do the lifts. The app does all the rest. What are you waiting for?

For those pressed for time to find to workout, this is great.. Working in retail during the holiday season means I miss more workouts than I get done. This app is great to track progress and get a decent workout in a very short amount of time. The moves are basic, but essential to any strength routine. I feel stronger than I have when I used to do very targeted routines. I like to change things up and do specific muscles or groups and then switch to this app after a while. Change keeps your body growing and this is great for a quick and effective workout. Exercises are effective for functional strength. I’ve tried many workout apps and this one is one I still use all the time.

The app is what makes it great. I’ve had more success with this program than any other one. I look forward to every workout largely because the app is so easy to use. At 44, I thought the military life had taught me how to properly lift. After a few injuries, you start to understand that most of what you think you know is just what some guy told you in the gym one day. I used this program start over, use light weights to get my form down and build up all the supporting structure you need to properly lift heavy. I’m only a couple of months into it, but already feel stronger and more balanced than ever before. Well Done.

Great app. I love using this app! It has helped me feel very excited and confident about starting my weightlifting journey. I have one minor critique: my gym has squat racks with KG bar/bumper combos but all of the bench setups are in LBS. I’ve noticed that switching the weight units back and forth causes some odd rounding and sometimes the working set weight will change .5 or 1 kg mid-workout. It would be great to set a weight metric per workout to avoid needing to switch and to solve for the rounding issues that occur going back and forth. Other than that I’ve had nothing but a great experience! Thank you for this app and the educational content 🙌

Good app but needs slight improvements. The plates at my gym are 5 lbs each. I have no 2.5, so I have to add weight in 10 lb increments and there is no way to adjust for this unless I keep manually overriding. The app doesn’t seem to keep track of whether I took a 1.5 or 3 minute break to determine if I had to squeeze out 5 reps or if they were easy. I would ask the user to rate the ease of the workout, or to guess how many reps he could’ve done at that weight. Or maybe even suggesting a certain weight and doing reps until failure and then doing that math calculation that shows you the max weight a person can handle so you determine a good starting point. I haven’t lifted in about a year so I left most fields blank, and my first workout was super light and looks like the next one will be too. I really don’t even know what weights to use to get the most efficient impact.

Best workout app available. I started using this app in 2018. It starts out with an easy to follow, effective program that automatically adjusts the amount of weight you should lift to keep you progressing, and backs you off when you don’t finish a lift. From there, you can start to introduce your own programs or modifications in the app. It’s interface is great for track other more advanced programs like Madcow, 5/3/1, etc. I ended up paying for the premium version after trying several other apps as well. Finally, the customer support has been great anytime I’ve had a question and they continue to release new features frequently.

App works great and logs activity in the Apple Fitness app!. This app is way better than using the Excel or Google docs sheet to track your workouts. It’s even better when combined with an Apple Watch! I had a minor issue when I started a workout in the Fitness app on the Watch prior to starting the workout on the StrongLifts app and emailed Mehdi and he replied within an hour or so with instructions on how to address the issue. Turns out you don’t need to start a workout on the Fitness app on the Watch, just use the StrongLifts app on your phone and enable the Watch & Health settings (enabled by default) and you’re good to go. The workout will be logged in the Fitness app as a Traditional Strength Training workout, which is perfect.

The best tool for increasing strength. Absolutely skyrocketed all of my lifts in less than a year. Super simple to use and understand. Not only did it help me in the short term with my gains but actually helped me understand concepts that otherwise would have taken me forever to get myself. It gave me knowledge as well as a great daily routine that basically got my life on track. I would pay premium money for a version based more towards increasing volume/size based on Periodized Renaissance’s methods of increasing total volume over 5 weeks, a deload week and then start again slightly higher, with a set number of sets per muscle group, along with some randomization for muscle confusion and throwing in some specialized warm ups, cool downs and stretches and you will be mine and I yours for life.

Great overall app.. I have used a few lifting apps over the years and StrongLifts has been the best. Not only in what you expect an app like this to do, but also the little things. As example, tracking overall workout time and rest period that auto starts when you mark your last set as done. I like the analytics to track progress and providing estimated one rep max details to support goal setting. I have even taken advantage of the deload suggestions after missing a couple of weeks, which likely has prevented injury. There is an integration with the Apple Watch and Health that adds convenience. Overall, I highly recommend StrongLifts. Keep up the great work!

Best weightlifting program and log in the App Store. As a former iOS developer, who previously worked on a nutrition and exercise logging app, I’ve tested a lot of these types of apps over the years. The StrongLifts program is a modification of Starting Strength, which I personally think is quite good for novice and intermediate lifters. Some may not think so, but this is a review, which means it expresses the author’s opinion. That said, this is a solidly written and well thought out variation of Starting Strength, that provides a ton of flexibility and options to add exercises, adjust weights and rest periods, and track progress. While there is a plethora of video examples and explanations for all of the listed exercises, this would probably be the biggest opportunity for improvement - the affected muscle groups (maybe an anatomical view), possible pairings with other exercises, and the ability to track conditioning (e.g. HIIT). I could also see this eventually adding 5/3/1 training as well. I really enjoy the daily Email messages from Mehdi. Fantastic app!

Best weight lifting app. So far I have not found a better, more user friendly, more bug free weight lifting app in the AppStore. It’s not just 5x5, you can customize it to any split, set range, or rep range. It keeps track of the highest weight used. On top of that you can have multiple routines to switch to on the fly. For example I started with 5x5, now doing a hypertrophy program. Everything is stored and all weights used are updated. So I can switch back to 5x5 and still continue progression with my highest weight. The app also tracks deloads for you, and reduces the weight by whatever percent you want to deload. It also syncs to the Apple Watch. The versatility makes this app so valuable to me.

Never been more frustrated with an app. I have been using this app since 2016 with great success. However, I now have the pro version that lets you create custom workouts which I was very excited about. I created a custom 5 day workout plan and use it 5 days per week. This app requires every. single. ounce. of patience I have just to continue using it. The fact that I paid for this horrendous experience is mind boggling. The app freezes and crashes about a dozen times each workout. It doesn’t let me change anything during a workout (number of reps/sets, weight, etc) without freezing and/or crashing. The “finish” workout button does nothing besides freeze the app. The “contact us” feature in the app doesn’t even work. It’s pathetic. I really really want the app to work because it has all my lifting history data in it but my patience is wearing extremely thin. I just wish I could speak to someone in a customer service type role that could explain to me why this is happening.

Easiest way to record workouts- period.. I use an Apple Watch with my iPhone. Once I open the app on the watch, I get how long to rest and how much weight to prep for my next set with a tap of the watch face. Go through a workout without ever having to go to your phone. Lift, tap for number of reps, rest time begins and taps your wrist when it’s time for your next set, hit ‘done’ for done resting, and repeat the process. Set up the watch to prep for warmup sets as well. Top notch, and ready to go to more advanced strength training programs. I had a question about the UI, and Mehdi emailed me within 24 hours. Worth the sub. Get it, then get after it!

Great app!. Easy to follow. I've never lifted free weights before and this got me hooked. Update: This is an awesome app. My husband read about it a little over a year ago and loved the simplicity and effectiveness. But he's been lifting weights all his life. I, on the other hand, have never been a weight lifter. (I have little wimpy arms, like a girl. 😉) So I was initially apprehensive when he tried to talk me into it, but it worked great! Now I no longer have little wimpy arms! I love how we can customize it for someone who lifts hundreds of pounds or for someone who lifts tens of pounds. They're constantly improving and making it ever more useful. They have great customer service as well. A recent update broke our ability to customize the automatic increases in weight. I sent an email to support and got an answer right away. They were aware of the problem and had a fix coming soon. They said that they would email me when the update was released. True to their word, the update came right away and I got the email before I even saw the update. Great job! I highly recommend this app.

Developed with the user in mind. If more things in the world were as half thought through as this app then I have no doubt we’d all be better off. This app is AMAZING, as someone who was a total beginner not too long ago, it empowers its users with the tools to avoid challenges/confusion and simplicity to clearly communicate the intentions and goals for the exercises. The free version is wonderfully helpful with the workout structure thought through for individuals at any stage in their exercise journey. The premium monthly fee isn’t outrageous and personally I felt confident paying the one time fee because of the time, effort and consideration that’s put into this app.

I develop software, this is a good app. I’ve been using StrongLifts 3x a week for over a year now. I’ve seen amazing progress with my squat going from 135 to 260 and huge gains in my other lifts as well. App is easy to use, has an intelligent plate calculator, and is extremely responsive and stable. Any bugs I’ve reported have been fixed within a month and each update has made this awesome app even better. Buying premium was a no-brainer for me. If you’re looking for something that is simple, but powerful, give 5x5 a try...and use this app to track your progress. I have 3 tips: 1 - I personally bought 1.25lb and 2.5lb plates and I take them into the gym with me in my bag. This way I’m not forced to go up 10 lbs every workout (my gym has a VERY limited supply of 2.5lb plates). 2 - Don’t go up in weight too fast! The weight increment can be too slow (especially in the beginning)...but be aware that you’re doing squat 3x a week and the weight adds up FAST. Early plateaus are a sure way to kill long term GAINZ 3 - Do a lot of research on proper form. You’re only doing 5 lifts, so do them right!

Good app. Needs a few tweaks.. This is a decent app for tracking your SL5x5 progress. The Power Pack adds some nice options but has one glaring omission - that being, you can’t reorder the assistance lift from the order they are presented in the list. ***One “workaround” is to create custom exercises and use an A, B, C format or A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, etc.***(see edit) And editing custom exercises is limited once they are created. Normally, you just have to delete and recreate the exercise if you need to change a parameter other than the weight increase. Recently saw they are going to a yearly subscription for the app. If you’re running SL5x5 for a year (or longer), you’re doing something wrong. ***EDIT: Turns out this didn’t work. The app ultimately rearranged the custom exercises randomly. Kind of annoying. ***EDIT 2: “...but it’s not that important for exercises that are just assistance. If it’s that important to you...” Spoken like someone with a very amateur knowledge of training and exercise physiology. What an unprofessional response from the developer. ***EDIT 3: Wait...now other users are reporting that automatic drops to 3x5, 3x3, etc no longer exist. Did the developer really REMOVE a pre-existing feature and then make them only available thru the subscription!?!?
