Goodbudget Budget Planner Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

See where your money goes. My wife and I love this app. We do a yearly subscription (and it has its own envelope) and it is well worth it. We each have an allowance so big goofy purchases don’t need to be explained. I just safe up my allowance. When bills are due the money is there and our savings is building faster than ever. We both have the app on our phones so both can see where our money is any time. We never argue over finances and that is huge. And I have it set when we get paid to automatically distribute to each envelope. And bills that are automatically paid through bank bill pay are automatically removed from the envelope. Balancing takes about 15 min. Why would you not do your budget like this? I swear buy it. After all the bills got set up in envelopes we started adding envelopes. Christmas, home decor, medical, property taxes, eating out, we’ve even paid off three credit cards.

So far so good. Doing budget on pen and paper is great, but it's obnoxious to pull out a notebook when I am so used to using a phone all the time. This app makes it simple--as soon as I make a purchase or pay a bill, I easily log it in the system and it tracks all my envelopes with no tedious pen, paper, and cash handling. Typically I can spend a lot of money and don't know where it's all going to--this app had made me a more mindful spender rather than going crazy with swiping my money away-logging my spending has kept me more aware of how much and how often I am spending money. Love this app so far and look forward to becoming a better steward of the money God has given me.

This app ruined my life. Ever since I started using Goodbudget, my shopping has plummeted down to essentials and a small splurge once in a big while, I pretty much eat out only when dining with friends, and now I have all this money left over to build my savings and even make a donation, all because of this stupid app. I don’t even know who I am anymore. The set-up takes some time, but once you get past that, the app makes it easy to manage your budget. I manually enter every purchase or bill, but the benefit of this is that I’m more consciously aware of every time I spend money. Get this app, and ruin your life. Or change it for the better. It all depends on which way you look at it.

Super Convenient. If you love the idea of the envelope system but hate how messy it is to actually keep track of all the envelopes and money in your budget then you will love this app. It gives you virtual envelopes to help you dictate where your money goes so you can easily keep track of it throughout the month as you get paid and spend. I'm recommending this to all my friends. I had some issues with crashing when I first started to use it, but it's been working great since then. I've been using it for a month and a half and it makes doing the budget and keeping up with it so much easier. It syncs seamlessly with my wife's phone so she can instantly see changes I make and visa versa. I even upgraded and found it worth the price.

From paper to mobile. Outside of freezing every now and again, and not syncing until you open the app, this is a marvelous tool. Not only are you able to set your budget but you can watch the visuals to see how you are doing. In addition, it performs as a register for any and all accounts you may have. It also shows the exact totals left in each "envelope" as you work for your individual or family finances. I have also been extremely pleased with the support I have received using the paid version. Some may think it is not worth paying an annual subscription. As a former user of Quicken software, I feel this is a much more practical and user-friendly software. Any problems I have had, they have been very quick to respond, usually within 24 hours and solve any issues.

Great for first time budgeters, could use some improvement.. Easiest user interface I've seen among envelope budgeting apps that cover basic needs in budgeting, and it's nice that they don't put a time limit on the free version while you're first getting your finances under control (though the paid version is definitely worth the unlimited envelopes!). Mobile version is clean and functional. Reports are decent too, though some other apps allow you to get more detailed analysis. Reason for only 4 stars is that they're are a few random annoying glitches, most notably that if you edit am existing budget, you can NOT see what your total budget is adding to as you edit, so I have to budget in a spreadsheet first then copy it all manually into the app to ensure I'm not budgeting myself into a deficit. It would also be nice if they added the ability to link directly to accounts like mint does in case I miss a transaction, though there are pros and cons to enabling people to be less hands-on in their budgeting.

Great way to keep family budget!. My husband and I have been using this app for a year and we love it! We use multiple credit cards for the rewards so in the past it has been almost impossible to track how much we have left to spend in our budget. This allows us to set a spending budget for the categories that we want and know in real time who is spending what in each category and how much we have left! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the app makes you carry forward any negative balance or positive balance to the next month. And it’s a little complicated the clear it. I wish there was an option to not carry forward that balance.

Needs a couple features, but great app!. I’ve been using this for five months now, and this is the best app for a digital version of the old cash envelope system, a la Dave Ramsey. It’s great because some budget categories get spent completely every month to a zero balance, whereas other categories may accumulate over time, like savings, and this app accounts for these growing “envelope” balances - something that every budgeting app I’ve tried lacked. As long as you, and your spouse, enter EVERY transaction, it’s a dream to use. And with the accounts feature turned on you’ll know exactly how much you have at any time. I have bank and credit accounts entered, so I always know their balances at a glance. WHAT IS LACKING: There needs to be a RECONCILE feature in the app for when you need to compare what’s in Goodbudget versus your bank or credit card statements - like a checkbox next to each transaction in the transaction list. It’s frustrating sometimes to try and make sure you’ve got everything entered but have no way to mark what you’ve already verified. Ugh! Also, there needs to be a SEARCH feature in the app to search for specific transactions. There is one for the website but not the app. ——- Get the app! Keep up the good work, Goodbudget!

Very useful app, just one annoying thing at the moment. I have used this app for a few years now and am very thankful for its existence. Preface: I almost always use the notes on transactions to detail what exactly each transaction is, for convenience when I want to look back through them. The one annoying thing that needs to be fixed: when scrolling through transactions, if you tap one to edit it or see details (such as a note I’ve written), after you hit cancel or back out of it, the app automatically scrolls back up to the very top of your transactions. (This also happens randomly sometimes when simply scrolling down.) Pretty frustrating when I’m trying to go through multiple transactions from a while back that require a lot of scrolling, and then I have to scroll all the way back down to each transaction EVERY time. It would be awesome if I could keep my place in the scroll.

Best budget app!. Goodbudget has been my go-to budget app for years. It's the best, easiest, and simplest replacement for the old cash envelope budget system. I use the free version, so I don't have bank account syncing, but I've always been diligent about tracking my transactions and checking my bank account to make sure everything lines up, so I don't feel like I'm missing anything. On payday I simply go in and fill the appropriate envelopes and it keeps me on track with all my bills and living expenses. I love that the app has an "Annual/Irregular" feature, which I use to track my "sinking funds" like car maintenance and pet bills; things I might not spend money on monthly, but I still budget for. I use the 10 monthly envelopes to track my monthly bills and daily spending like groceries and gas in my checking account and the annual/irregular envelopes to track my sinking funds in my savings account. I love this app and will continue to use it as long as it's around!

Love this App, however would love to see a couple features.... This App is so amazing. I love the simplicity. Definitely worth the cost to stay on budget. However, I have a couple of features I would LOVE to see added. I would love a “Temporary Category” envelope option. When there’s a birthday or car registration etc that only applies to a particular month, it would be nice to see within the app interface which categories those are at a glance. Also, it would be nice to have a general “Notes” section, where I could make notes like “overpaid phone bill, it will be pro rated next month” so I can keep track of next month’s budget expectations.

Budgeting done!. I have been using the app for one year and it has helped me do a complete 180 with my finances. I use to always be broke living one paycheck to another and now I have money saved and bills paid the second they arrive. The app helps you see where all of your money is going as long as you input everything you spend. The app is super easy to input the expenses and only take a few seconds once you have all your categories set. I don’t have my accounts linked because I like to only work out of good budget and then go back and balance it once I get my bank statement. This has worked so week for me that I am debt free minus the house of course and now I don’t stress about where all my money goes. It has taught me how to live within my means and how to save for the things I really want to do. Over the years I have tried other apps and never could commit to them because they were to complicated. Good budget has changed that completely, thank you!

Best decision ever!. In April of 2013 I estimated my income, created a budget, took some money out of savings and lived off last months income (accruing new income with which to create a new every penny allocated budget). I haven't looked back. I use the subscription level account so that I can use Goodbudget (then called EEBA) to balance all of my bank accounts (checking, credit card that gets paid off every month, savings accounts). I even got my sister to do the same thing. She used an income tax refund to start the live off last months income process. We recently upgraded our house. I couldn't have done it all without the Goodbudget tool to manage my money (instead of it managing me). My favorite features include: real time updates to envelopes so my hubby and I are always in synch, the progress bar that helps you make decisions on if I should really go out to eat or not, easy imports/balancing of all of my bank accounts. I couldn't live without this app. Goodbudget is AWESOME SAUCE!!!! Update: Here we are in May of 2019 and is still think this is the most awesome thing in the world. I would never want to manage my finances without this app. I reconcile my accounts every month and this app is a MUST.

Great budgeting app. My husband and I wanted to better understand how our money was being spent, so we looked for an app to track all of our spending. We chose GoodBudget because we could sync the data between our phones, so if one of us added an expense, it would show up across all our devices. That would allow us to maintain an accurate, real time picture of our total family spending. We tried the free version for a while, and liked it so much we upgraded to the subscription option so we could add even more envelopes for an even deeper analysis. It’s been very helpful and I would definitely recommend this app.

A good app, but a little cumbersome. I’ve been using Mint for over a decade, but because it’s connected to my bank accounts and transactions don’t process immediately, I can’t categorize or add notes right away, and my budgets aren’t necessarily current. Basically, it’s not a great tool for managing spending in real time. I went looking for a better solution. The good: With Goodbudget I can enter transactions manually as soon as I make them and everything is updated right away. That means less work later remembering what I bought where, plus it’s a viable way to check whether I have the money for a purchase as I’m actually shopping. The not so good: The envelopes overview shows how much you’ve spent so far from each envelope but NOT HOW MUCH YOU HAVE LEFT. This is a really weird oversight. I don’t wanna have to do math every time I glance at the app. I want to know if have $50 left in my budget to cover these shoes. Also, the envelopes filling process is cumbersome and unintuitive. I feel like I’ve gone back in time like 15 years in terms of the UI on the website.. things are just hard to figure out and not where I’d expect them.. but I’m getting the hang of it. Overall, a good and useful app, but I’m thinking of giving Every Dollar a try bc I hear it shows your remaining balances.

Best Budget App I've ever used. Granted, I'm still getting the hang of getting my paycheck to automatically fill envelopes the way I want it to, but the envelope system in this app is awesome. My husband and I share an account so we can both add transactions and they show up in the other person's phone. The envelopes are "smart," too - if you are over budget in one area it will tell you how many days you'd need to stop spending to catch up. The opposite is true for if you're under budget - which helps you know how far ahead you actually are. And, you can transfer money between envelopes...if for instance your "shopping" envelope is under budget but your "restaurants" are over, or whatever. Highly recommend, especially for couples or those on a joint-budget.

This app has already saved me 1000s of dollars. I just started my third year using the goodbudget app. I used the free version for a year, by when I have realized that budgeting was saving me upwards of a hundred dollars each month. Simple keeping track of how much money I was spending each month in what categories helped me plan my budget and save money. After a year, I was willing to pay $45 for a year of premium services (measly compared to how much the app helped me save already). The premium service is useful to compare how much I was paying for various categories across the years. Also, keeps me track balances on the ten credit cards I've racked up as well as my checking and savings accounts. Goodbudget is a fantastic way to get financial literacy. Other apps (like Mint) which automatically sync with your accounts don't really work since there are many expenses which I've paid for friends and they pay back later. It is a bit of work, entering each expense manually. But I have at most a handful of expenses each day and it takes just 30 seconds for each expense. Using those 30 seconds to enter an expense is more beneficial than spending those same 30 seconds looking at a cat video on instagram.

Very helpful for us. This app has really helped us track our spending and make sure we have enough allotted for all our bills. It’s basically the digital version of the cash envelope system. The only thing that drives me crazy is when I’m scrolling through transactions and the app “refreshes” it automatically scrolls back to the top. This is so frustrating when I’m trying to find a certain transaction that may be further down. It often takes me several tries to find it. This is fine for maybe the first time you’re in transactions so you can make sure everything is updated but to continue doing it every 30 seconds is annoying. I wish it would just stay where I have scrolled to until I scroll back to the top.

Great App. Tempting to upgrade to paid version.. This app reminds me of another app that I use, called Expense Keep Pro, except that it does everything that I wanted Expense Keep to do. Syncing to multiple devices, account summaries that feed off of envelopes. Very cool. I can't quite justify upgrading to the paid version for personal budgeting. Wish there was a cheaper option to allow a user to have a few more accounts, maybe a one time payment that would allow for a few more accounts and envelopes. I might even be willing to pay a yearly fee of 10$ or less for up to 5 accounts, and maybe 20 more envelopes. ...Instead I settle for less at the free level... Either way, thanks for the great app!

User for 4-5 years to many bugs at this point.. I’ve been using this app going on 5 years I think and I’m starting to get very frustrated with some major bugs that aren’t being resolved especially since I use the pay feature. 1. When I set new “monthly envelop fills on the app a lot of the time they don’t execute the next month so I end up having to manually add the money. 2. Today I woke up to only having 33 dollars in an envelope that had over 700 in it yesterday and when I add up all the purchases for this month it confirms they were no where near the envelope fill for the beginning of the month. These bugs are basically starting to make the app useless because I can’t accurately track my money flow. I plan on looking for another app until these issues can be resolved.

$15-$25 for extra envelopes???. So far, this app has been fairly useful. Even though I find some things to be confusing, I have also found the help team to be VERY helpful, which is rare and very much appreciated!!! Here's my biggest problem, and the reason I am probably going to be using the BetterHaves app going forward: to get more than 10 envelopes, they expect you to pay $15 for 3 months, or $25 for 6, and there's not even a better deal 12 month option!!! That is OUTRAGEOUS!!!! Sure, you also get access from 5 devices, big whoop, and 5 years of transaction history, another big whoop. Maybe the 5 devices would be worth it if it included tablets! There is no version for the iPad. $15-25 for those THREE extra perks (unlimited envelopes, 5 devices, 5 yrs history) is absolutely ridiculous. Even though I've already got 5 months of budget history, I'm cutting my losses and using the BetterHaves app from now on, b/c they give me unlimited envelopes. Whatever features I'm losing by switching, they still don't add up to $15, and nowhere near $25 worth.

Great software for envelope budgeting!. I've used Quicken, I've tried several other apps, there are definitely lots of good options out there. This app, though, has worked best for me for a couple years now. I love envelope budgeting--it's the only way that really works for me. And this is the most affordable option without having to sacrifice ease of use. The desktop interface is great, the mobile app is great. Do I wish it incorporated auto download from my bank and credit card accounts? Sure--that would make reconciling easier...though I've gotten so used to exporting and importing that it's a breeze now. I wish I could deselect all transactions at the start of reconciling instead of having to go through and clicking on each one to clear transactions--it's really the one thing that I don't like. Highly recommend!

Frustrating to work with. At first I really loved Goodbudget. I love the digital envelope system, how easy it is to input expenses, the recurring payments/income feature, etc. More recently I’ve found some of the processes more cumbersome than helpful. When I set a recurring income, including specifying which envelope the money goes into, it resets the envelope at the base amount set rather than adding to what’s already in there. It takes the excess and sweeps it into “Unallocated” rather than keeping it where I very deliberately put it. Then I have to go through the process of figuring out how much was in each envelope before my income hit, and transfer from unallocated into the various envelopes (each transfer happening separately). All in all, this program is pretty good, but only if you’re budgeting and living paycheck to paycheck, especially since it’s free. If you are saving up for something or want to have extra money in a few of your envelopes, this program becomes more of a headache than it’s worth.

Great app but I have a few suggestions.. This app has changed my life. It is very user friendly and is exactly what I was looking for. My husband and I have a joint account for bills and I can’t get him to switch to this app (which I use for my personal expenses). Why? Because the app he uses directly imports the expenses from our account. I do like that feature which allows you to simply drag and drop those expenses directly into an envelope or category on the app. That’s the biggest thing I wish this app offered. The other thing is sometimes I put my paycheck in a day early so that it is already divided up and appears there on that day. Well even though I put the day of my payday in, it appears immediately in the envelope and I wish it wouldn’t. That could be user error on my part. Regardless, I LOVE this app and would recommend it 100%. If you’re not sure, try the free version first. You won’t mind paying for the better version once you see how great it is!

It is really “good”. I’m giving this app a fiver because it really is good. What this app does is it helps you to think before you spend. THINK. Other apps don’t do this, instead they connect to your bank and then show you nice graph of what you have been spending your money on. Nice but not really helpful or encouraging self-discipline. Most people have a bad habit of waiting for payday then they spend it on what ever they want until it’s empty and they have to dip into savings or worse investments or even worse borrow from friends or family. That’s also a bad habit but many people do it. I’m even guilty of it at times. This app helps you to stop doing that. It has helped me and is worth the fee. It will take a few weeks to adjust your plan and discipline yourself. But it does work and will balance out. Think of it as a game. You have to win by not spending over budget. If you think it doesn’t work then you might have a spending habit you are unaware of. It’s up to you to identify it and balance what the app says and what your bank account says. It’s now my fave app. For now I’ll leave this review as is but I know later I’ll add some improvement requests.

This app could be good but not user friendly. I’ve been using this app for about a month doing a weekly budget. It’s the only app I can find that lets me do my budget in this format and I like that because it goes with how my brain works. Unfortunately, this app isn’t that user friendly. It isn’t that intuitive in figuring out how to schedule envelope refills and allocating income. I’ve stuck with it and think I finally have it but it took about 3 weeks to get the app to work for me and for me to understand it. Like is said I stuck with it because I like the envelope fill idea and I dont want an app asking for tons of other things and connected to my bank account and all the things the other budget apps want. This app should not have taken this much work to understand how to use but I have it now for the most part so I’m sticking with it.

A great App but needs a little improvement. Goodbudget is an amazing app that helps with budgeting. It does what it is supposed to and can help everyone to understand how to budget well and effectively. Goodbudget has graphs that are easy and simple to understand. One of them tells you where you spend your money the other tells you how much you spend and how much income you get. Goodbudget has easy-to-understand features and if you don’t understand they took time to create videos on how to learn to use the app well. The app also helps show you how much you spend and save to keep up with your finances well. However, this app isn’t perfect just like everything. One negative about this app is that there is a paywall to get all the features and it can be tricking when first starting. The videos created are also a bit of a problem because they show that the app is very complex and can’t be fully used if not watched. Personally, one thing that bothered me was I needed to pay for an app about budgeting which I think is silly. I understand that the app is free and a paywall is there for the creators to earn money from it, you can improve on helping a basic user to add a tutorial on what each feature does. This would be very simple to add and will help more people to want to download it for its simple explanation on how to use it. Other than this simple thing I love your app and how you guys were able to make it.

Money managing!. My husband and I used to money watch. We have an app that helps us see what’s being spent but it didn’t help us money manage. We struggled to save and we would worry when money troubles would come our way. Now we use Goodbudget and we both have access through our phones. We money manage and it has been wonderful to be able to have different envelopes for appliances that will break soon or a roof that needs replacing in the next couple years. We don’t just budget monthly, we now can see where money needs to be for a new car and can slowly fill those envelopes for the coming years! We are a couple with a new home. This app has worked wonders for our finances and peace of mind!

Very Helpful. This app is not complicated and does have a tremendous amount of features. One thing it does not have is an auto sync with you bank account. However, before thinking that this is a bad thing keep in mind that this forces you to keep using this (balancing your checkbook so to speak). Some of the benefits of this app are easy envelope transfers, split transactions, auto funding, and atypical budgeting. Atypical budgeting? So many other tools out there are based on monthly cycles. Sure, this works for you water bill, mortgage/rent, and cell phone, but, who is paid monthly? We use this to auto-fill all of our envelopes every two weeks when we are paid. This will really force you to only spend what you have. The only issue that I have found is it occasionally will not sync (minus 1 star), but within 30 minutes or so we are back in business.

Good...but could be better. This is a great program for a virtual envelope budgeting system. Nothing else out there really compares to this format, and I’ve looked. However, I keep looking for one specific reason. There’s no option to automatically download financial transactions. They will tell you it’s so you pay attention to your finances more by having to manually enter, but in my experience the time it takes to manually input means I often get behind, then my envelopes aren’t balanced and I still don’t know how much I have to spend. Honestly, it just seems like laziness at this point on behalf of the developers. Would be nice to just open the app and quickly categorize my transactions that are already downloaded and waiting for me. All in all though, this is still the best setup for budgeting.

Very good app!. Good Budget was kind of confusing to learn at first. Now that I’ve been at it for a couple weeks, I REALLY like it. I was looking for a very simple system that emulated an envelope system that is familiar to a lot of talk radio fans. I never wanted to carry physical envelopes. That seems archaic to me and very inconvenient at times. I also wanted something I could set up to automate my weekly budget allotment deposits into those envelopes. Also important was that it be as close to free as possible. This app did all of that for me. I didn’t want to over complicate the number of envelopes, so I only have four. That makes this completely free for me. Like I said, it wasn’t user friendly to learn and some of the controls of the envelopes aren’t very intuitive, but now that I’ve learned the system, I have automated it to do exactly what I want. I figured it out quickly, but it did take a bit of effort on my part. I’m glad i did. I really like the user interface, too.

this app will help you save money. i spend a lot of money, and didn’t really have a way to keep track of the purchases aside from the bank statements i got. mint by intuit is okay, i tried several other budgeting apps too but the problem is: many other budgeting apps will auto categorize your spending, meaning that if you shop at walmart and get eggs, the app may write it off as shopping, but if you get a shirt at kroger, it’ll be considered groceries. enter: goodbudget. when you’re keeping track of your finances yourself, there’s little room for error one way or another. it’s also nice because you can physically see how much you have in one envelope or another. the app will let you track debt & set goals for saving. if you have a separate bank account from your main one, it’s really useful in showing how much money you have OverAll. because you can see the money you’re spending, once an envelope runs out, you’re done. there’s no more spending in that area. it’ll really help you save more and spend less. highly recommend for anyone that spends a lot of money !

I’ve tried everything! Finally!. Finally i found an app with a budget that can be adjusted the way I need it! I’ve searched high and low for a budget that can be set to start on a certain day of the month, because our income is not on the first, and this app has that feature!! Also love the envelope system...we tried going all cash so we could budget with envelopes and it just doesn’t work for our lifestyle, but this app lets you budget with envelopes electronically which is awesome! Very helpful tutorial videos help you get everything set up, and very pleased that the free version is everything I need! Only suggestion or complaint (which is really lame...but hear me out) is the little smiling/frowning envelope faces on my budgets....sometimes I can’t help that my envelope has run out, and those little faces seem to be reprimanding me for no good reason. Wish I could edit them a little per envelope to be more neutral when I need them to be. Otherwise, love that they’re telling me when I’m “on track” or to “stop spending for a few days” Overall, I definitely suggest trying this app.

Awesome app, saves Money!!. This is one of the best apps I’ve ever used. I started using it about a year ago, and have saved lots, and have been way more effective with my hard-earned money. I’ve used this app to help pay off 3 debts, saved for a major house repair that I paid in cash, and saved for future funds like tires and Christmas. And I’ve met goals, tracked them, and have done it all at once! This app has changed my family’s life and financial future! It’s super easy to use and incredible to watch your money grow or be put to the best use. The goal envelopes are one of my favorite features. I like it better than other budget apps because it has a reconcile function for the bank accounts. Most of the other apps automatically downloaded transactions, but didn’t have a reconcile function, and that was critical for me. What’s the purpose of having a use for every dollar in your account if you can’t confirm the reconciled amount? Even automatic downloads get messed up. Entering transactions in manually in this app is a few quick, easy taps and keeps me more on top of what’s happening in my account. I can’t recommend this app highly enough! Happy saving!!!

Great simple and easy to use.. I have been using this app for a month and I recommend this app because of how easy and simple it is to use and add transactions. There are many good things about this app,Like when you first open the app there are not any random ads popping up and leaving you confused, something that i also found interesting is that you can make your own envelope and add stuff, the app is also really easy to understand all the instructions are clear and easy to follow. I have to say there were some stuff the app did not do well, the apps aesthetic was really bad, the whole app was just one color, also being able to find the pie charts and other stuff about the app took me 3 days, the instructions should be more clear about this because i never realized that the app has pie charts. Although a good budget is a great app, there are some missing features in the app. The app should give some notifications not too much but maybe 2 notifications per week to remind the user that the app still exists and to remind them to add some transactions. The app should also add a feature where you can add pictures to your notes. Also having a small tutorial when you first install the app would be a great help and a good idea.

Excellent budgeting but needs more customization. This app is exactly what I wanted for budgeting. Regular budgeting apps made no sense to me, since I typically don’t spend over $5 a month on coffee and didn’t need that kind of budget, but maybe one month I’m traveling a lot I might spend $15 on coffee. The lack of rollover would frustrate me on other apps. This allows me to have a single savings accounts, but know how much exactly I have budgeted for certain thing, which is not everything in my savings. I used to hate the manual inputing of transactions, but now that I have the hang of it I don’t mind it since it gives me time to make sure my statements are correct. The reason I gave this 4 star though is that I wish there was slightly more customization. Your options for envelope savings are irregular/annual and picking ONE other way (monthly, biweekly, etc). This doesn’t work well for me since I budget my rent monthly, my grocery’s weekly, and my insurance every 6 months. I wish in the premium version, at least, they had the option to break down the way you want to budget envelopes in more depth. I would immediately purchase it then.

Great Budgeting App. This App has been the best one I have used for quite some time! The only thing I wish it would have is the ability to group envelopes. As it is now it just seems like it eventually becomes a long list of endless envelopes, which isn’t terrible, but after a while it can be tough to navigate through it all as the number of envelopes grows. It would be great to make customized groups of envelopes like when budgeting for a project and making envelopes for every item in the project under a specific group to make it stand out from all the other envelopes. It’s a small thing but beyond that I absolutely love this app! Keep up the great work!

Has saved me thousands; but it’s time to step up the technology!. I have used Goodbudget for 3 years now, and it has absolutely changed my life. Even as a single-person household working in human services, Goodbudget helped me save a down payment for a house, which I bought 18 months after I began using the program. Today, Goodbudget helps make paying all the monthly bills possible and still have money for 401k and for whatever fun goals I set, such as saving up for an overseas vacation or a new car. My parents began using Goodbudget a year ago, and they have also saved thousands within the course of a year. I can’t recommend this program enough. That being said, it’s high time that the IT department stepped up its game. The app hasn’t been optimized for iPhone X, envelopes cannot be fully customized on the app, etc. If I’m going to keep recommending the app to all my friends, I hope they will step up their game and make the app something to be really proud of. (I don’t like recommending a program and then apologizing to my friends because the app is lacking in areas). Also, pricing could be reduced to attract more newcomers, in combination with starting a referral program so we could be rewarded for bringing Goodbudget brand new long term paying customers.

Good but could be better. It’s difficult to find a budgeting app that works just the way you need, but this one is super close. What’s lacking is the report feature really needs more options, both online and on the app. There are only two on the app! Online, you can download a csv file but mine was missing transactions. Also, you need to be able to download the budget envelopes amount. I had to create a spreadsheet with that info manually which was not ideal. I’m an accountant and an really enjoying the app but need a lot more analysis from it particularly for this price range. That is seriously lacking. But, I love the envelope system and how you can see the budgets and set them up to automatically be filled with income. At the end of the year, it would be great to see just where each envelope landed so that the budgets could be adjusted moving forward. It’s pretty simple to use and makes fiscal sense. Also, there needs to be a button for cleared/pending items. I see the last update adjusts for pending but I made a transaction for later this month and it’s not pending but already in the total. Thanks

Pretty good but could be great. Please please please change the color or do anything to signify the difference between an envelope never filled and an envelope filled and emptied!!! It is impossible to tell and so very difficult to fill envelopes without going back and forth from income to envelopes a million times. We have multiple accounts and pat sources. The app is not great with that. Parceling out the envelopes is trickier in the app than it is with real cash, including a trip to the bank. It’s actually a huge hassle. Different options like splitting evenly amongst all or ranking envelope import would be better. The other issue is when you’re filling envelopes it does not tell you how much has previously been added from other income sources so you have no idea without, again going back and forth a million times, how much to add. All you see is an envelope and an amount. Why doesn’t it default to that envelope’s missing balance? Why does it default to the full amount multiple times?

Good but missing something. So far I really like this app. I have the free version so there’s 10 monthly envelopes and 10 annual envelopes. I need more so I may subscribe if I continue to use it for a few months. Instead I took all my fun envelopes and combined them. Also, I’m not tracking my 2 debts (cc and student loans) since my cc will be paid soon and I don’t really care about tracking my loan. (I have a second income that I don’t track and just continuously store in a hys account.) It was confusing to start but then I understood how to use it. I love that you can record back in time! The thing id like is if your envelope bar turned red or yellow once you start using the money in it. Otherwise it just looks like you never filled it unless you look at the $ amount which aren’t in different colors text either.

Works Flexibly, Like Money Does. I used several budgeting apps before this one, and they're all too stiff. What if you don't need any hair products this month, but you desperately need socks and you're out of "clothing" money? What if you want to take all your extra money at the end of January and put it into savings? All doable on Goodbudget. I started paying the $5 a month after my three month trial because I really liked it that much. If you follow Dave Ramsey at all, this is like an electronic envelope system. I really suggest starting with the actual envelopes (or the wallet-- it's on their website and it keeps all your daily envelopes together in a classy wallet) for a year or two until you get the hang of it. There's something important about watching your money come and go. Once you get that down, and learn to stay within budget, the Goodbudget app is perfect.

Love! (only one feature missing). This is my favorite budgeting app by far. It changed my financial life and I feel like I finally have control of my spending. There is only one feature missing. I wish it would connect to me bank account and import transactions. I don’t need it to do it automatically and I would never want it to categorize the transactions for me. However, when my numbers are off and I need to reconcile or when I’ve fallen behind in entering and need to catch up, it would be so helpful to be able to directly import the information with a manual trigger. This would eliminate technological issues encountered with the download and upload which is an step that only serves to distract and create unnecessary obstacles.

EXACTLY what I needed. This app is amazing. I used the paper-envelope method successfully for years, but then started to get lazy & too addicted to my smartphone for all the paper. My finances became a total mess. I was in desperate need of something that emulated a style of budgeting that made sense to me, that was easy & simple, & that didn’t force me to link an app to my checking account (which I absolutely refuse to do). This app is all of those things & has been exactly what I needed to get back on track with my budgeting! I will say: the interface is a little counterintuitive & takes a little getting used to, but once you’ve got it it’s incredibly simple. It’s definitely not enough to give only 4/5 stars, in my opinion (which seems to be the only reason many other reviewers do). I am so grateful for this app & can see myself using this for years to come.

Changed my life. I was in debt, about $10k. My girlfriend recommended I try the Dave Ramsey envelope system. I tried it for a month with cash in envelopes. It was a disaster. I rarely used cash anyway, so it was cumbersome and unfamiliar. I would go grocery shopping and forget to bring my grocery envelope. I thought there must be a better way to do this. Goodbudget to the rescue! It’s been almost 6 years now using the app, and it’s absolutely changed my life. My wife and I pay for the yearly subscription and it’s worth every penny. The best thing is that at any given time we know EXACTLY how much $ we have for each category of spending. It’s eliminated almost 100% of fights about money. If you’ve never lived in a budget it will take a little getting used to, but it’s so worth it. I’ve always been bad with money and was never able to save anything. Now, it’s easy! Thank you Goodbudget!!!

What would I do without this app. This app has been a lifesaver especially since my husband and I have joined to one account. I had been using this app for well over a year, since before my husband and I got married and it worked great. Now that the bank account is joint this app has been putting in work! I'm so thankful for the ease of the app and how you can put money into the envelopes for later. It's just amazing! Most importantly it keeps us from over drafting our account. I don't know what I would do without it! I'm using the "bill keeper" and "capital one wallet" as an added tool to keep up with my upcoming bills and current purchases for good budget entry. Very thankful! Thanks!

Grow Up, Goodbudget. Everything about this app (from a functional standpoint) is 5-star. Easy to use, clear, no pesky bugs. It performs exactly as advertised. This 1-star review is only for the interactive element of Goodbudget, namely the anthropomorphic envelopes. What lunatic asylum design group thought it a good idea to create an emoting face that reacts to your spending? The feeling of being judged by this app is one hundred percent real for crossing the spending line established. When I went over budget on a particular line, I was honestly surprised to see the envelope figure not hanging from a noose. I use this app to track basic family spending items like groceries, restaurants, personal purchases, &c. I can’t imagine what it would feel like to use this app and go over budget on purchasing diapers or medical care for my child when every penny is already spent on other bills. Goodbudget - grow up, get rid of the emotive envelopes, and let people use your app judgement free like we all deserve in life.

Overall the app is decent but there are some downsides. I have used Goodbudget for the past month and I think it is a decent budgeting app. It is an easy app to navigate and simple to use. I haven’t really struggled to figure out how to use it since it's pretty straightforward. The design is simple and things are easy to find. I like the envelopes and think they are useful and help me be organized. This is a free app and so I like how I have access to all of this but don’t have to pay anything. However, this app does contain a few things that I didn’t really like. First of all, I feel like the app was very plain and wasn't very aesthetically pleasing to look at. The only color is a green part at the top of the screen. The rest is gray and black or white (depending on the dark mode). Alongside this, I had trouble signing in. At first it was really complicated trying to sign in and wasn’t working that well for me. A suggestion for the app that I have would be to maybe make it a little more appealing. Try adding more things to make it a little less plain and boring. Another thing could possibly be adding a tutorial option on the app if the user doesn’t understand. It would help new users understand and probably be more comfortable using the app.

Tell your money what to do before it leaves you. I’ve been using this app for at least 8 years (Remember when she was called EEBA?) This app motivated me to take charge of my $, pay off debt and live an intentional, enjoyable life of financial stewardship. I’m a disciple of Jesus Christ and a student of Dave Ramsey. This app is FAR more robust than Every Dollar. Discipline yourself and your spending and you’ll be sweetly surprised as your financial goals are achieved: debt free living, achieve savings goals to purchase cars for cash and to pay off a mortgage early. Budgeting would be a horrible chore if it weren’t for this app. The sales / tech support team are top notch. You will not regret making Goodbudget a part of your personal finance tool chest. I use it WITHOUT linking to external accounts to force me to balance and track my accounts. Try the free version and commit yourself to track all your spending (ALL YOUR SPENDING) for 2 months. This will help you develop a budget. If you’re using the free version with consistent discipline for 2 months, upgrade to the full version. You won’t regret it.

Awesome!. This app is awesome. We used to use Quicken and it would take forever to update the program then try to see how much was in the budget. Plus, their budget feature is seriously flawed. It’s an after thought at best. Goodbudget is different because you can update as you go and you enter thru the budget. At any given time you can see how much is in the budget. Even on your phone. So easy and logical. It has been a game changer for us. Staying on budget used to be hard because we never knew how much was in the budget. Now it’s just hard because it can be hard to stay on a budget. But it’s easy to see how far off budget we are!!!

Budget. Very good. Easy to use. However unable to go back and change income amount once it allocated. Otherwise it's one of the best apps to use

Mostly great, room for improvement!. I love this app, and I totally rely on it to keep myself on track. I really wish there was an option to pay a one off fee to be allowed multiple accounts and more envelopes. I'm not happy to pay a monthly fee when I don't need the cloud services, but I would happily pay once for a few extra features! The app could also be a bit prettier, but that's not that important.

Easy to use budget app. Been using this app for a few years and it really helps me stay on track with my spending. Very easy to use once you work out about accounts and transferring money around. Recommend to all my friends.

Easy to use. A good little tool that is very easy to use to help keep track of finances

Free app is great. The free features are great though I'm still working out how to manage unallocated funds. It's a bit tricky, but is one of the better money management apps I've tried. However the paid subscription to upgrade the app is ridiculous. If it was a one off fee of $5-$10 - maybe even $20 - I would happily pay it for the increased functionality, but $60 a year ongoing is highway robbery.

Useless. Hard to navigate and fills money in places you don't want it to as well as creating new payment amounts. What's the point?

Worth it. Great app - but highly recommend watching the getting started videos online!! Makes great sense after those, and once set up is an excellent tool which gives a lot of control to use it how ever you want to use it. App could be a little simpler looking, more colourful and user friendly. But still easy to use once you know what's going on.

Powerful Budgeting App. This app was the only one I could find that did everything I needed. Was a bit tricky to figure some things out at first, but simple once I understood. Has rollover balances, selectable and recurring budget cycles, individual envelope targets/limits and a way to input your income each pay if you like or you can fill envelopes independently. You can also choose when top up amounts for each envelope will occur automatically, within a chosen cycle. I also love that my partner can log into the same account/budget I have, so we can jointly use the budget together.

Handy Budget App. Overall this app works really well, particularly as it can be synced across multiple devices. The envelope system is simple and a conceptually easy way to budget. It is all manually entered, which I find helpful to actually see what you are spending and helps you stop and think. You can also set up recurring payment things that are the same each period, like some bills. Which is handy.

Shows promise. I love the theory of this app. I’ve been using it for a few months now. The envelope system is fantastic, as are all the scheduling options. My only issue is I’m having problems with money being added without me telling it to be added. I set the budget cycle to begin weekly on a friday-but it has been rolling over on a sunday, now after deleting and re-loading, it rolls over on a Monday instead of a friday. I like it, but the glitch makes it unusable for me!!

Nice budget app. It can be a little confusing at first however once you get a hang on it it is actually quite useful

Great App - add feature please. For someone who isn’t a fan of budgeting, this app is great for keeping track of spending. I’m mindful of what I spend money on. Thus saving money here and there. I would love to see a feature where one can take a photo of a receipt when adding an envelope. That way if the receipt goes missing it is tied to that purchase/envelope.

Loooove it!. So easy to use & seriously effective way to track how much money you have left for your budget! It’s been such a money saver for us already as once that envelope is empty (even if the bank isn’t) then we stop spending. Love Love Love this app!

Fantastic. This is the budget app we really wanted in our minds. Does everything, easy to use, shareable. Thank you developers.

Great app, keeps us on track. Love that more than one person can add to it, very user friendly

Great budget app. Very simple to use and the user guide is simple and very helpful Just what I was looking for

Great budget app. We use this app everyday.. We use this We were looking for an envelope budget system. This seems like the best and has great backend support from the community and the paid support. I paid a subscription to get the better features and to make sure a company like this is there in the future. Great job.

Finally have control over my finances!!. As I head in to my 40s and reflect on where all my money is going, I came to the conclusion that I genuinely had no idea. In all honesty I just somehow always had enough to last me the month and to do fun things with the family. I decided at the start of 2019 that I would get serious about managing my money and made the commitment to look for a budgeting app that would meet my needs. Having never used an app or created a budget before I found the whole process overwhelming as I was never taught how to “manage money” and there are soo many apps that approach budgeting differently. What I like about GoodBudget is that it doesn’t link to my bank account, there is no easy button and it doesn’t try to do the hard work of budgeting for you. Other products linked to my bank account (doesn’t feel safe), try to categorise your transactions, give you easy buttons that allow you to allocate spend against savings goals, but these products never made me feel connected with my money. Instead i found that for budgeting to work, you need to make the decision to commit, be invested and capture everything you do manually which forces you to be involved in your money which in turn forced me to be more responsible and accountable for every dollar I was spending. - if you are serious about budgeting, you have to stop looking for the “easy button”. By forcing myself to get involved and to monitor each transaction while adding them in to GoodBudget against the envelope system I have been able to save 19K over 11 months that historically would not have been possible. GoodBudget has helped me curb the family spending, have greater transparency with my wife on where our money is going and now with the money saved I can finally take my kids on an overseas holiday. Last words of wisdom... make sure you capture everything daily, reconcile everything, make sure you stick to your envelopes and in time what started off as a boring and tedious task will become the norm and you will find your self in a better financial position. If your still overwhelmed and don’t know where to start, there are loads of tutorials, FAQs and forums that GoodBudget provides on their website to help get you started. Thankyou GoodBudget!!!! Wish I had done this 20+ years ago.

Not intuitive at all. In this day and age you should be able to work out the app intuitively . This is not it. Gave up after a few minutes as most people would.

Almost perfect. Goodbudget is excellent. The only thing to make it perfect would be more detailed reports. For example, a report to show details about a budget envelope spendings.

Bad. Could not add monthly expenses with weekly expenses. Could on add 10 things too budget for. Very complicated to use. Do not like

Might as well use Excel. What does your app offer that excel doesn’t? The only reason to use an app over an excel template is automatically syncing bank transactions. But this is not present.. so what are you charging for? What’s the point of the app.

Good for Australia. Have tried a few envelope budget type programs and previously used YNAB which was very good. The biggest issue has always been that most apps work on a monthly basis and assume that you receive a monthly paycheck. Where Goodbudget excels is that it allows you to budget on a Fortnightly basis, which aligns with the Australian system, and makes it much easier to work out. Ease of use and feature sets are very good. Doesn’t have a native iPad app but the web based login can be used on iPad.

Amazing app. Can sync with your partner and work on desktop as well!

Frustrating. Good concept but so complicated to figure out exactly how to make it work

Exactly what I needed!!. This app is exactly what I was looking for in a budgeting app! It allows my to see how much money I have to spend on certain things (food, petrol, fun stuff) and how much I have put away for others (car rego and insurance, uni textbooks for next year, home deposit savings) and you can really tailor it to how you want to use it! It’s a little confusing at first but there are videos linked in the app to help you out. Couldn’t recommend this app more!

BEST BUDGET APP. Great way to run the household budget with the family and view in real time

Colourblindness. If you have red/green colourblindness this app is largely unusable.

It’s my daily app. I love this app! I have kept my budget for 2 years. I particularly like the monthly pie charts and totals. Great to see where you money is going. It becomes a habit. I spend, I tap into my app.

The one app to end all apps👌. Everything you need in one simple package (even the free version is fantastic). Intuitive and simple to use - allows you to pre-plan and budget with envelopes and recurring payments. Budget overview for the month, year etc is also very helpful.

Have to pay. I couldn’t open an account without paying. I thought looking for a budget planner meant I don’t have money. How dare you

Best Budget App. I love this Budget App! It makes it really easy to stick to a money plan (budget) and stay on track. If you start to go over budget, it just advises you to stop spending for a day or so, which is really easy to do. I recommend this app for everyone. Catherine

Generally good, but hard to make modifications. I find good budget to be an excellent way of tracking expenses, but oh boy, if you need to make changes to your budget it is very difficult to use. I have had to delete everything and start from scratch as I could not work out how to make and save changes. It is not intuitive.

Basic. Can’t import transactions from bank

Finally an app with the envelope system. Love this app, it's a bit tricky to get used too, but once it's all set up it's great. Wish there was an option to pay a 1 off for more features as I, like other reviewers am not willing to add another monthly expense to my budget, and do not feel that the product is really worth the ongoing subscription fee, but love the free app, and hopeful to see a one off option appear.

Good basic system. I really like this app... but the subscription is outrageously expensive. If I had $40 every 6 months to spend on my budget tool I wouldn't need the features. If you have a really simple budget like I did when I first downloaded the app it's fantastic (1 income stream that is in your account like clockwork, less than 10 outgoing expenses, don't use a credit card etc) For anything more complex it becomes challenging to work within the free features.

Missing account. I loved this app but unfortunately I just went to check something in my budget today and for some reason I get a message that there is no account for this login on both my email addresses. I had the app logged in on my phone and now my account is gone along with my budget 🤷🏽‍♂️😩 If you can fix and retrieve my budget would be great, I don’t have the time it takes to set it up again for a meeting I needed it for today, very disappointed.

Simple, easy to use, very effective!. The key to success is being able to set goals, track and achieve them. I've been using this app with my wife for approximately 2 years now. I would never consider not using this app as it ensures we know exactly what the money in our bank account is allocated for and assists us in knowing when bills are due, etc. Great app - 5/5!!

This saved our finances!. We needed help and it came in the form of GoodBudget. Easy to set up, easy to use and the fact that it syncs between our phones means that we can both see - at a glance - how things are progressing in each Category. This has had a profound impact on our conscious spending. It’s honestly awesome. Can’t recommend it highly enough, we are now entirely debt free!

Budget bunny. I did a lot of research with budget apps and tried a few and this is definitely the best one for my needs. It is very similar to Money Bags which is a form of envelope budgeting. Very easy to use and after using it for a few years, I'd be lost with it. Amazing for a free app.

Great app. Really good budgeting app. We were using money journal but it wasn't being updated and kept crashing. This app was a fantastic find as a replacement. It's simple to use and we like that it lets you create your own categories which other apps don't allow. The best feature for us is that you can share between devices which makes it a great household budgeting app rather than most of the others that are aimed at individuals. You can also export the data which is very useful too.

Fantastic. Introduced me to envelope budgeting which has changed the way I spend and save. App is brilliant

One flaw. My only complaint is that I can’t reorganize my groceries by category. For instance all the fruit and veg. Together.

Very Useful App. I'm not normally one for writing reviews but I've found this one very useful and pretty easy to understand.

Great app please fix this bug. Great app would recommend. Please fix auto-scroll to top of page for iPhone app.

Best budgeting app. I budget weekly so this is helpful. Love the envelope system.

My whole life in one app. I have always budgeted, this app has made life so much easier. The most convenient way to plan ahead and keep spending in check!

Love this app. So easy to set up and use. Showed my Mum and now she loves it too.

Not a Free app ,. Have to pay after adding few expenses

Fine but not the most user-friendly. It's decent and I still use the free version but it wasn't intrinsic to set up and I didn't see the value in the paid subscription so I stopped and went back to the free one. Constant extortions to write a review after EVERY entry is painful too.

Excellent App for Budgeting!!!. Super good way to keep track of your monthly budget & spending by utilizing envelopes for each item. It would be nice if you could change the background colour, it’s green, which is great, but I would prefer blue!

Pay $10 a month on an app when you’re trying to budget?. Not worth

Decent Budgeting App. While there is a bit of a learning curve to understand how to use it, I find that it works best for what I need. That said, there are a couple things that would be great to see: - Bi weekly debt payments. Yes there are workarounds to this, but considering the subscription fees, I shouldn’t have to use a work around for a fairly common scenario - Grouped envelopes: This is super helpful on the web version, it would be cool to see this brought over to the iOS version as well. - iPad optimized version.

Confusing. I got this app and it is very confusing. I don’t think you can even delete envelops as it automatically assigns has and grocery envelopes. Not happy

Great App, Overly Complicated. I like this app, it has all the features that I want. However, filling the envelopes is way more convoluted than it needs to be. I just made a budget and trying to figure out how to fill the envelopes is incredibly frustrating and unintuitive.

Too confusing. I wanted a simple budgeting app and this one had way too much going on for me.

Nonsensical. NOT user friendly at all. One envelope shows a budget of $300 that I placed and shows I have $138 left in there with no expenses attributed to it at all. And others did the same, it makes no sense and I’m not bothering to try and figure it out if it’s going to be that messed up. Trying another app now. Also, only allowed 10 expense envelopes and then you have to pay a monthly fee to use the app. Rip off!

Very helpful. An amazing Family budgeting app.

Very complicated. Deleted after wasting an hour trying to figure out how this app actually works.

don’t get this app. confusing UI and doesn’t really have instructions, deleted the app within 5 minutes

Useless. App randomly removes money from your budgets. Buggy and useless.

Unstable. I don't know what's happening but the app seems to freeze more and more often. It's too bad because the concept is great.

To simple.. This app is to simple and definitely not worth paying money for. I found the app to be nothing more than it really a calculator. There are much better apps out there, I deleted this one.

Good but..... App is good but hard to justify the monthly/yearly subscription fee. There are far better budgeting apps around that you almost don’t pay anything or at least pay a one time lifetime subscription. App has too many limitations (e.g., i have to make separate envelope and account transaction on my investment account; I can’t view my transactions in calendar view [a lot of budgeting apps can do this] etc). I paid almost $90 (Cdn) for a one year subscription. I definitely won’t renew. Subscription fee kinda defeats the purpose of “budgeting” if i have to pay for a subscription for a mediocre app.

Simple and easy to use. I have been using this app for the past two years, and it has been really useful and easy to use.

Great functionality with outdated UI/UX. I really live this app as it provides a great implementation of envelope based budgeting. From what I really like is that there is a clear understanding of what is the state of each envelope, and it is possible to send money from one to another! And their free plan is really nice! Thank you for it! I don’t mind to pay for it, to buy some features, but I absolutely hate subscriptions and that’s the reason why I don’t look at YNAB. The only thing I wish app has: a slightly more modern UI, a possibility to hide Accounts tab completely (as I have only one), and some widgets to see my money left on account and/or in envelopes directly on the home screen.

The perfect budget app. I’ve tried multiple budget apps for manually tracking weekly spending and savings budgets and this app is by far the best in every way (unless you want to link an account). The only problem I had was being unable to create custom categories, but you actually can. When you search for a category and it’s not there, there is an add button you can click in the top right :)

Great app!. I’ve been using this app for about 7 years. So easy to use and helps us save! Definitely recommend to everyone!

Easy to use. Really easy to quickly track your budget and stay within your spending by category.

Unable to edit income. In order to have a budget, I needed to be able to make adjustments. This does not actually change edits, or allow a change to income. Worthless!

At least it’s free. Been glitching a lot lately, like entering a transaction doesn’t save.. makes me paranoid now if my record of transactions isn’t accurate

Life-changing. I have been using the subscription version of the app for years and it has been absolutely invaluable for tracking my finances and budgeting into envelopes. Features for filling in budgets by amount or rolling over balances provide a lot of flexibility that matches real world needs. Overall, highly recommend!

I’m so upset!!!. I used this app for over 5 years and it got updated and is super complicated to use! I can’t even figure out how to put in my earrings to start a budget! I’m so mad!

Best app to track spending. I love this app, I tell all my friends and family about this. I love how simple it is and easy to use.

Not for some people. When I found out you only get 10 free slots to record monthly expenses I deleted the app. What’s the use of using an app if it doesn’t meet your needs or restricts you when itshouod only be there to HELP you? How oppressive!

Very good!. Very good software. Only thing I would like to be more flexible is adding money to the envelopes freely. I understand the accounting premise of always moving money from one account to the other. But sometimes we just want the "virtual envelope" part of the features.

Get a grip on your expenses. Perfect app to actually see where your money goes. A bit of a learning curve at first, but take the time to understand and then it is simply amazing uncluttered add-free (and free) little app !

Perfect for Budgeting Beginners. User-friendly app that made budgeting seem a lot less daunting to me!

Too expensive. If you want more options you have to pay an arm and a leg for it. Seems counterproductive considering that it’s a budgeting app!

Only one feature missing. I love the app and I love the website. It really changed my, and my family’s, life for the good. It doesn’t make the sacrifices it takes for one to correct his financial situation, but it does give you the tools. I know similar apps does it, so I would greatly like to have one more feature: the option to sync directly with our bank accounts. We can import transactions, but it’s still time consuming and we have to be very thorough if we want to be successful using the app/software. I would gladly pay even more to have this. Something like a free plan, a plus plan (w/ unlimited enveloppes, accounts) and a premium plan (w/ account syncing and maybe getting our credit score delivered once in a while?). Some people don’t want to give too much informations, so a « plus » plan would be great for them. But others, like me and most probably a lot more, would like it to be the less time consuming possible. Some apps give free credit score so it’s not needed, but it still would be great to have everything at the same place with a premium plan. Plus plan is around 50$ US if I remember well, I would easily pay 80 US for a premium. Thank you for your work !! 4.75/5

It’s great!. Been using it for 4 yrs now to keep me on text with my spending .. I really like it!

Life Saving App. This application is the most important app on my phone. I don’t even look at my bank account so before I buy something. I look at this app.

Great app to improve your financial health. This app is great because it will help you change your spending habits Once your envelopes are set-up you can decide wether you can spend on this shiny new thing ... or not. This has been invaluable to help my wife and I agree on spending. This is also great for the kids: they all have their envelopes for sport, clothing, etc. and they now can make better financial decisions.

Paid.... I believe any paid budgeting app goes completely against what budgeting is...trimming costs. 10 enveloppes is not really enough for me, unless I want to bundle my credit cards together (which I don’t they are separate payments). I understand apps like these make up for the difference you pay, but I can’t justify spending money to save money....not when I can do it in an excel free of charge.

Finally an app that works for how I want to budget. I’ve been a Mint user for the better part of the past decade, and finally got fed up with its increasingly terrible automatic transaction sorting so I decided to find something that relied on manual entry. Goodbudget is the perfect fit for how I want to keep track of my money! I can easily schedule my monthly recurring paycheque and expenses, and know exactly how much extra cash I have on hand by looking at the unallocated category. I’ve disabled the accounts feature in favour of just simply tracking monthly spending so can’t comment on that. Long story short, if you’re okay with manually entering all your transactions throughout the month and need something simple to track your monthly budget this is a great app!

Great at what it does.. Excellent resource for keeping track of money and week to week finances. Would like to see some savings folders. (folders you fill up instead of empty) And the UI could be a lot simpler. But considering it’s free I can’t complain too much.

Unreliable. After one month, it randomly deleted all my info. I started tracking again from the beginning and after another month it deleted an income source. Who knows what other transactions it forgot throughout the month. Truly awful.

Paid Off Student Loan. I used Goodbudget to pay off my student loan. It’s a terrific little app.

Fantastic!. We have been using this app for 4 years and it has changed our lives. It really makes you see how you spend your money and where. We have paid off bills faster and save up for the things ie trips. We decided to pay for the app so more than one person in the household can use it. We barely look at our bank account. I don’t know what we would do without this app. Great investment!

Best budgeting app out there!. I like the envelope approach with this app. It’s not always intuitive but neither is a lot of the other budgeting apps I’ve tried using. Would recommend this above all other budgeting apps!

Glitchy and doesn’t work half the time. Doesn’t sync, doesn’t fill envelopes, crashes, not worth the hassle

It’s okay but.... It’s okay but when creating a budget u should be able to individually label what money’s coming in when all on one budget

Would be better with an option for bi-weekly. Would be better if the app had an option for bi-weekly payments.

More envelopes. We have a lot of bills in our house and there was only 10 envelopes available without a monthly subscription. I need closer to 20 for my entire budget. Unfortunately, that’s when I deleted the app

Removed Features :(. Hi, used to really love the app but you recently removed the “set to...” option for the monthly envelope fill and now I have to do math in my head to zero out the balance instead of simply “set to 0.00” ... really slows the monthly process down.

Best budget app ever. I am so excited to be using this app. I've had it for one month only so far but am continually excited about its features as time goes on. I have upgraded to the paid version with unlimited envelopes and accounts (your people deserve to be paid for their time and expertise) and am learning something new all the time. Thank you, Goodbudget. I am now in control!

Great app. I am currently using the free version of this app and it has worked great. I have been using it for almost 1 year now. I love that I can manually enter my expenses and move money around. It has been a great visual indicator of what money goes where. I would recommend this app for anyone who likes to manually manage their budgets. And anyone who doesn’t want to link bank accounts (finally a budget app that doesn’t make you log into your banking!)

?. i dont understand how it works

Solid Budgeting App. Good app! Takes some getting used to and could definitely be a bit more intuitive, but good features and layout for a free version.

Just want I needed!. Great way to track purchases and stay within my budget

BEST app EVER!. It sounds a bit cheesy, but literally this app has saved our marriage! We used to fight over money ALL the time, I used to tell my hubby I didn’t need a budget because I knew what needed paid and how much extra I had...boy was I wrong! Once I reluctantly gave budgeting a try by using this software, I realized how “off” I was when it came to our finances!!! Since using GoodBudget we NEVER fight over money anymore :0) We are only 10 months away from being debt-free (something I NEVER thought possible) and our marriage is 100X healthier than it ever was...I tell everyone I can about this app. It is a true game changer!

Stick with it. If you stick with this app, and use it religiously you will save money. I saved $6k in 6months using this app. It’s takes a little bit of time to set up and figure out your automatic income but as soon as you have set it up it’s super easy to enter your purchases throughout the day. Just open the app as you approach the register, pick your envelope and enter the store name as you wait in line, then as soon as you get your total, enter the amount and hit save. It takes ten seconds to do. I also love that I don’t have to link the app with my actual bank account or credit card.

Easily tracking my money. My digital envelopes are automatically filled to match what is going into my checking account. I enter every expense in real time and I can then see what is left. I can finally keep track of the accumulation needed for annual payments. My Goodbudget balance and my credit card balance approximately equals my checking account balance. My financial adviser was impressed with the detail in my budget. It’s great to feel secure in my cash flow and see where I have enough for a splurge! Thank you for this awesome app.

Excellent app & thanks for the updates... wish it worked on an iPad, too!. I use this daily and it keeps our finances on track between my wife and I. It also allows me to daily reconcile accounts at our bank. The iOS 9 update is great and the compatibility with the iPhone 6 Plus was really needed. Thank you. Great update and nice to be able to schedule my transactions. There was a bug with scheduled payments which is now fixed. Thanks.

Great app!. We use the full version to be supportive... so nice they offer the free version, but we use this so much that the full version saves us more than the cost of having it. We have been using Good Budget for several years now... and it is a major part of our budget process. Every transaction gets entered immediately, and under notes I record how it was paid (cash, credit, gift card, even which credit card!) We have helped others start budgeting and Goodbudget is our first recommendation! This year we shifted enough funds to pay cash for our air conditioner replacement! Thank you Good Budget!!!

Extremely Annoying to Use. If I had known how time consuming it was going to be to use this app I would never have paid for a subscription. There are a number of features that would make this app much better and easier to use. One would be a button that automatically fills all your envelopes to the budget amount. Instead you have to do this individually. With like 30 envelopes, this ends up taking like ten minutes. And if you accidentally fill an envelope twice, there’s no way to delete a transaction. Instead you have to create a new transaction to remove that extra money. Very annoying to use, do not recommend. At this point it would have been faster for me to do this the old fashioned way with pen and paper.

Meets my needs very well. I have used at least 3 or 4 different apps for my personal finance tracking and I have found Goodbudget to be the best one yet. I like the ease of entering expenses and scheduling recurring income and bill payments. I have never had any synchronization issues and I like the fact that my wife and I can always see the same information without discrepancies. For me, the web app is very useful because I like to do some tasks on a PC with a big display and other times I like the convenience of a phone or tablet.

Huge Blessing to our family. We love this app! Hubby and I have been using it for years now and it has helped us pay off a lot of debt by sticking to our budget! It's super simple and easy to use, which means I actually use it. My husband loves that it is *not* connected to our online banking. It has a nice look to it and gives perspective for the whole month. I'll be honest, I particularly enjoy that the happy little envelope stays happy when we're on track and gets sad when the budget is almost empty. It just helps motivate me all the more to make things work within our plan. Genius. :)

Doing the most for years. I’ve been using this app for something like 7 years. It’s been free & ad free the whole time. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ I use it every week for “envelope method” budgeting. It helps me track my spending and make sure I’ve got funds before making a big purchase. It’s easy to add funds to my envelopes if I get a reimbursement or bonus. Extremely grateful that this app has never required me to connect any bank or social media account. Thank you to the devs for this incredible app. My gratitude is immeasurable.

Cant unsubscribe, get YNAB. I’m sure this app is fine for some people, but after comparing four similar apps, YNAB or You Need A Budget is BY FAR the best app I’ve ever seen for this sort of thing. I am one month in, and it is literally saving me a huge amount of money. I can’t believe how awesome YNAB budgeting is. I didn’t care for Goodbudget, with its envelope system. I paid for it, regretted it, and then tried to unsubscribe from the emails. They can keep my money, but for some reason I can’t unsubscribe from the emails. I’ve tried several times, and the emails keep coming. I put them in my spam folder, and yet emails keep coming to my inbox. Goodbudget,Please fix your unsubscribe button.

Goodbudget has really helped. This app has been wonderful in helping my family watch what we are spending in order to save more for a home. We have the advanced option to allow for more envelopes and accounts and this has really helped us realize where we were overspending. The people at goodbudget were very friendly and quick to respond when we had questions regarding set up options. I think this app is a wonderful investment.

This app has saved our Family's Budget. For the last 3.5 years, our family has tried various ways to budget our expenses. This app has allowed us to see which spending goes where and allows our goals to be on track. We have recommended it to both our extended families to help their financial goals as well. Additionally the app has great user experience and has never had any crashes or problems that we have experienced. Keep up the good work Goodbudget!

Goodbudget. It allows us to put in info about our spending as it happens. That makes it effective in maintaining our budget. This is because it allows info to be entered on different devices and then syncs the devices. I could not find another budget app that did this. This means that you don’t have to sit down at the end of the week and manually sync purchases made by the different members of your family. Also, once you set your budget it will automatically update each month. Perfect for what we need, Thanks

Great budget app. I love this app. Just one thing would really make it even better - please fix the auto reset to the top of the page when viewing transactions. I often need to cross reference transaction history with a credit card statement and it’s really difficult when the view keeps jumping back to the top. Please fix this one flaw in an otherwise stellar app!

Love it!!. I was searching for an app that was easy to use and secure. I’m not a fan of apps that connect to your bank. No thank you! I tried another popular budget app but I didn’t like it. Goodbudget is great. I can easily see my transactions, balances, and cash flow from my phone. And the charts are even available on the mobile app! I hope the developers continue to support the app for a long time.

Great app. We’ve been using this app for a couple of years now. I don’t know how we ever managed before this! Actually, I do. We didn’t. We were getting close to overdrawing our account, numerous times, because we would forget about purchases that would his the bank a few days later. With this app, we budget for birthdays/holidays, groceries, gas, dining out, and our own individual spending. Our finances have never looked better!

Latest version loses its way. Prior to the last updates, I was very pleased with this. It was a fast, lean way to assign a job to every dollar. Then they stripped the ability to sweep unassigned cash to an envelope and added things like location (which has to be turned off for every. single. transaction) and scheduling. In short, they stripped out useful features and added bloat. The user forum contains numerous pleas to reinstate the sweep feature and contemptuous and condescending lectures from the company that we should build up unallocated cash. In other words, they have COMPLETELY lost their way when it comes to giving every dollar a job. Very disappointing.

Finally, budgeting that adds up. This was the only app I found that grasps and embraces that not all expenses are monthly. Some might be once a year, twice a year, or four times a year. And some expenses just happen when they happen, like repairs or illness. This app allows you to create budget categories that “refill” on schedules that make sense for all these scenarios. Envelope budgeting is the only concept that makes sense to me. When you need more money that expected in one category, you have to spend less in another category. Duh. You’d be surprised how few apps let you do move money around your budget this way. Some reviewers find the app confusing. It wasn’t to me, but I am good with numbers. I will say this: It is logical if you are able to understand how it works. Seek support. The developer seems very helpful!

Thanks for helping me spend and save in line with my values!. I’ve been using Goodbudget for several years now, and it’s been so helpful for keeping track of my money. I’ve been able to notice trends in unnecessary spending to cut back and save for things like vacation and fun, and to give toward causes I support. I love how goal envelopes do the math for me to help me save for long-term expenses. And with scheduled transactions, Goodbudget takes care of my regular payments and fills, so I don’t have to. The plus subscription is totally worth it to have unlimited accounts and envelopes!

Outrageous price for a limited time. I was really excited about this app because it has all of the functionality I've been looking for. However as soon as I started to set it up, I found out that you only get ONE free "account" ...really? Not even two accounts for checking AND savings? And the upgrade is $15 for 3 months or $25 for 6. That is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS and not worth it, I honestly don't know where these developers get off asking that price. There isn't even an "unlimited" option so you're forced to keep paying those prices. I might pay $15 for an unlimited version (which I have NEVER paid for an app before), but come on. I'm a budget-conscious person, which is why I looked at this app to begin with. It's also why I won't be using it.

Simple, straightforward way to budget. My husband and I have been using the GoodBudget app for over a year now and we wish we'd been using it the whole time we've been married (6 years)! This app allows us to easily be able to see how much we have left in our budget for the month, so that we don't sit there and agonize over an unexpected purchase or going out to eat (the two things we had the hardest time seeing eye to eye on). I've recommended this app to so many of my peers. We like the fact that you have to manually enter your purchases. It makes you think a little more before you buy something!

No tech support. I have used Goodbudget for several years now and thought it was a great, simple, budgeting tool. I’ve recommended it to several family and friends. However, this past week as I was inserting info into my app the whole thing shut down and when I opened it back up all of my envelopes were screwed up. They wouldn’t show any deposits for the past 5 months. Needless to say I was pretty upset. It threw all of my envelopes off. I learned the hard way that the ONLY way to contact this company is through email. It’s been almost a week now and I still have not hear from anyone... so I switched to Dave Ramsey’s app - Every dollar. So far I like it a lot better. And they actually have a chat support. If I’m gng to pay for an app at least I have support. You failed Goodbudget. And I will tell all of my family and friends to switch too.

Best budgeting app!!. We have been using Goodbudget for several years now and continue to be extremely happy with it. The yearly cost of it is absolutely worth every penny! If you’re looking for a way to track your monthly expenses and debt, this app is for you. Thank Goodbudget team! You have truly made my life better! And I love the debt tracking you just added. Well thought through, as I’ve come to expect from you guys. Keep up the great product!!

Difficult to understand & use. I want to like this app. Lots of people seem to love it and use it religiously. I’ve been trying to use it for a week now and I find it clunky, difficult to understand, oddly complicated and not intuitive. The guides are very basic and don't really explain things beyond what is supposed to be straightforward but in practice really isn’t at all. Nothing is easy to adjust or change and I found that I inadvertently messed up my numbers again and again trying to correct or change something. Then I had to revert to outdated or inaccurate numbers to make the budget “work” again. It takes way too much headspace to get a quick understanding of where I was at in terms of my envelopes and then even refilling envelopes mid-budget was so confusing I’ve given up.

Not User Friendly. I don’t think this app is what I was looking for or expected. I simply wanted an app to be able to have “money folders” rather than multiple savings accounts. I have big and small splurge items I like to save up for (vacations, shoes, tech, etc.) without have to set up multiple different savings accounts with my bank. I wanted multiple folders in ONE account, and I thought this app would give me this experience. It is not user friendly or self explanatory at ALL. I had no clue what I was doing and there is no “how to” or tutorial upon download. Very frustrating to use if you have no clue what you’re doing.

Great for really seeing where your money’s going. A great way to keep track of your spending...particularly for couples. You can both input purchases. It is really eye opening to see where your money goes and it has given us a much greater sense of control over our finances. We can always see where we are in relation to our budget and never have to worry about being blindsided. Easy to use although we have to manually readjust each month since we prefer not to carry over excess/debt and want to start from zero.

GoodBudget is Great!. I was using another online budget tool for several years but it was pretty bare bones. I like the extra features Goodbudget includes. The charts and over view of income and expenses is very useful. I also like the sliding bar that gives me a quick visual on how my envelope totals are doing. It took me a bit of time to get comfortable with using the phone app. Some processes are a bit easier to enter on my laptop, such as entering income and moving funds out of the unallocated envelope. All in all I am very happy with Goodbudget.

Great app. I really like this app. Way way easier than trying to use paper envelopes and handle cash. Pay with your credit card like normal, 12 seconds tops to load the transaction to the app and your on your way. I almost gave this app a 4* since the set up was more difficult than I hoped, but I think it is because I added every aspect of our finances including 15+ auto payments. I had to watch a tutorial on how to fill the envelopes each month.

Just Perfect!. This app/website is exactly what I’ve been looking for! I wanted a simple way to track my spending digitally. I also wanted to be able to create a two-week budget instead of a monthly budget, based on my paychecks. I tried Mint, YNAB, EveryDollar, tracking in Excel, and tracking on paper, but nothing suiting my needs as well as this. Thank you, Goodbudget, for creating this simple and effective tool! So glad I didn’t give up my search.

Does the job. This envelope budgeting app does the job, and at a lower yearly cost than YNAB (You Need a Budget). There are trade offs, however, such as a less intuitive and graphically appealing interface, fewer current support articles and videos, and the inability to sync transactions from your financial institutions. When you sign up for YNAB, you’ll truly feel part of a community (some might call it a cult!) You’ll have to decide if paying $30 more per year for YNAB is worth it for those features. For me, it currently isn’t. Both offer a free trial (YNAB) or a free tier (Good Budget).

Excellent!!. Works great! No complaints. This is an excellent budgeting /cash flow tool! I have used Goodbudget for several years now and recommend it to all my friends. I have used it for a weekly budget when i got paid by the week, a bi-monthly budget and now i budget monthly with an auto sweep set up at the end of the month. I write out my budget on paper the assign the amount to envelopes. It has been the perfect electronic version of a "cash" envelope system. I also find the manual sync very helpful and it is not difficult. I have used programs with auto sync and they gets easily messed up.

Exactly what I needed. I just needed to have a system that would keep track of my budgeted amounts in my main categories. I actually didn’t want something that synced with my online banking because it gets so confusing when your moving money from one account to the other or if you are buying something for someone else and getting paid back. I just wanted to see how much I was paying in groceries and saving for Christmas etc. It is super simple and that’s what I love about it.

Amazing app!. This app is amazing and has really helped me to spend less - within my budget - what I can & cannot afford. For those of you who think that it is too complicated to use, I would say to just start using it and read the tutorials. Then you will begin to understand and get the hang of it. Best budget app in the entire world. Their staff really goes out of their way. Currently I just use the free version, but do plan to upgrade when the time is right and I can afford to do so. To the app creators, I say ‘keep up the good work’.👍🏻🙂

Awesome. I love this app. Does everything we need it to do. Awesome interface and easy to use. I don't trust Mint or the like with the security of having my account logins, plus manually entering transactions keeps me honest about my purchases. I'd only request that we could have a two-step verification setup for our logins, just to ease my mind even further about posting my transaction history, but that's more to do with my preferences than the app itself. Keep up the fantastic work guys!

The Negative is the Positive. We love this app. Been using it for years. It is easy to use. One reason Good Budget excels is that it allows you to carry a negative balance for a spending category into the next month, watch for trends, and then adjust as needed. Also, the ability to download bank transactions speeds up the accounting process. Having a web based interface and this app working together makes for an incredibly robust budgeting program.

Best I’ve tried so far. The thing that sets goodbudget apart for my family is the ability to input data from two phones and have it sync automatically. It’s helped me get control of my finances, and is this well worth the monthly fee. I recommend looking at tutorial videos online before/during setup. I didn’t at first, and it took me way longer than it should’ve to set everything up the way I wanted. I also like the interface, visualizing where your money is going works way better for me than simply seeing the numbers.

Great to stay on budget!!. Two years ago we went from the all cash envelope system of Dave Ramsey to Goodbudget. Very different using the debit card for everything but it has worked well. And we are not taking around all that cash in envelopes. I consolidated categories on Goodbudget so that we use only the ten free ones on line. It has worked well so that we incur no additional expense using Goodbudget. A great way to stay on track with your budget.

Brilliant product. I have flipped through a LOT of budgeting app offerings through the years, and nothing has quite stuck like this one. It is practical, intuitive, and an overall dream to use. I love the scheduling options, and the envelope transfer functions are a dream to use. A lot of careful thought has gone into the layout and execution of the GUI. This is a world class product that suits my needs exactly. That being said, like many users that have posted reviews, the pricing for the paid plans is just not feasible for me. I understand and respect the importance of generating revenue through the application, I really do, and a nice review from me isn't going to keep the lights on and the fridge full. However, the available price points simply do not justify the purchase. Please don't take my gripe about the price as a sign that you shouldn't use this product, YOU ABSOLUTELY SHOULD. It is, in my opinion, the best budgeting platform available for the iPhone bar none.

It helps!. This Good budget app is awesome. When I got paid, I knew what bills had to be paid. If i had Extra money above my budget like overtime pay or extra work. I knew I could put that money towards debt or savings. Both your spouse and you can manage with the same app and budget. You both know how much to spend on groceries, date night, etc. You only get ten monthly envelopes and 10 yearly envelopes. It was manageable if you put gym membership and car insurance in yearly. Awesome!

Amazing!!. I have been using this ap for one year now. I had never really lived on a budget before and after spending quite a bit more than I made last year, decided it was time for a change. This ap is SO easy to use and I’m proud to say, that after one full year, I managed to cut my spending by $10,500. I was more thoughtful about the purchases I made and didn’t feel like I had to go without too much. I even went on two trips this year and I still came out way ahead! It’s amazing how quickly frivolous spending adds up. Try this ap. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you so much Goodbudget!! ❤️

A great app! I wish it converted to iPad though…. I love this app it has helped me sooo much getting my finances on track without having to note it down somewhere. My only issue and why I gave 4 stars is because, I wish that I could use the app on my iPad too (you can use on your phone and on desktop) but on an iPad it’s a larger version of the phone and you can only use it vertically (unable to turn it). All I wish is I could you it across the board :(

Best budgeting app of all time. Yeah ... it is . Even though it’s manual, it’s much easier to use than Mint. The only feature I am wanting right now is the ability to see all transactions of a specific type during a certain period. Right now it just shows all transactions so while it’s good to see the pie charts of where your money went, you can’t really see exactly what you spent it on for that period of time. Other than that, amazing app, has actually helped me and wife stick to a budget for once. Nothing else worked

Easy to use, staying on track!. This is the first time in 20 years I’ve ever successfully stuck to a budget! My husband and I are using this along with another app called “debt free” to reduce our debt and stay on plan. We both know where we stand and how much we have left. It helps to look at this app vs. the bank account which looks like we have a lot of money in it. But that money is in specific envelopes and “spoken for”. I have recommended it to many family members and friends!

Best Free Budget App. This app has a bit of a learning curve to it. Don’t think you can download in a crunch and be done. Learning it and setting it up took time. After 2 days, mostly figured it out. I recommend checking out their website for a user guide. While it does not connect directly to your bank account, I find the manual entries to be better for me as it holds me more accountable and keeps me knowledgeable of my active spending. There is no banking delay for processing payments since I manually add it immediately preceding the transaction. I wish there were widgets.

Suggestions. I love the app and the setup. It’s the only app that has allowed me to input money to each envelope and then track my spending. However it does get hard to remember to track every single expense. I would like for the app to be able to connect to my bank account somehow. I have seen other apps that have this feature. In addition to this, I think it would be nice for the app to be more appealing to the eye. While it is easy to use, I think if it was organized differently it would be easier to use and look nicer.

Amazing for a free app!. I installed this because I was spending way too careless and I figured they would push their paid version and limit any of the useful features. This is not the case the app is completely usable and very helpful in terms of budgeting expenses, segmenting spending, and monitoring where all your money goes. It’s also good in the sense that it forces you enter every expense you have, making you think twice about spending that money. Love the app.

Do it!. Has made a huge difference for us in knowing how much money we ACTUALLY have that isn’t already going to payments, taxes, savings etc. So much better than being kept in the dark. I spend about an hour once a month importing balances from card/account in order to know how much we have for the next month. Just paid for our car in cash from having saved up and survived 6 months on only one income because we had savings in place and knew our finances. DO IT!!

LOVE!. After reading Dave Ramsey's "Total money makeover " my husband and I became DEBT FREE including our home in several years. Dave recommends an "envelope system" and we had all these junky envelopes that I was tired of manually writing out stuff and because it was all cash you could never go back and see like you can with debit/credit cards. This in turn leads to lack of a budget. After quitting my job to be a full time mom and part time student a budget is necessary. I can't say how much I LOVE this app and how simple it's format is!!!!! Puts me right back on track on my budgeting!

Budget app that puts me in control!. I absolutely LOVE GoodBudget! It’s changed my life! I love that I can make so many envelopes that fit my specific bills and spending categories/goals. And the fact that it doesn’t link to your accounts is not a detriment but a HUGE advantage for two reasons: 1) Causes you to have to stay aware of your spending at all times, 2) You never have to worry about it not syncing and being inaccurate. I am more aware of my finances than I have been in my entire life. I really can’t say enough good things about the app. Never any problems, and transitioning from mobile app to computer is seamless.

Decent app, too large of a paywall. I think that GoodBudget is a decent app. You can easily pull up a pie chart and see what kind of spending you are doing. The downsides are that the app is way out of date and the last copyright was around 2011. Also, you can only use up to 10 envelopes before you have to pay a ridiculous price of $5 a month. That’s just the starting price, and the more envelopes you want, the more you have to pay. I think the app is best for very simple things but if you want to do your full bills, another app will probably be more ideal.
