Easy to use. I have a 2022 Toyota Supra. This is the first OBD scanner that actually works. The messages are typical for these kinds of tools. Codes are displayed by system. You can clear some or all the codes. There are a handful of things you can update. I have had other scanners that just dis not recognize my car, or could not read or write anytime at all. I would definitely recommend Carly for the average home user.

Good tool for the occasional mechanic. Handy used car check. Easy to use trouble codes check with links to explanations. Had a problem getting live data. Rouben from support gave me a work around straight away. Turns out I needed to start the app first, go to OBD functions, then to live data (not the one on main menu. fix to come), start the engine, then to connect. Live data streams well and can be logged for saving or emailing. It does six parameters at one time from various systems and you can watch the stream or the gauges. Have no present need for coding so haven’t used it. Battery reset and maintenance mode should prove useful though.

Waste of money. I bought this scanner to help me identify my check engine light codes and I order to do so you have to pay for a year subscription. I wasn’t aware that I needed a subscription just to use the scanner in general so I figured I’d by a month subscription just to test it out but you have to buy a full year which is quite pricy 90$ a year for all cars. And after buying it all I connect to my car and the app is trash and the connection works half the time if it wants to. And it doesn’t connect to the check engine light. I have an obd2 scanner and I know what codes I have but not this Carly it doesn’t work as an obd2 scanner. Waste of money. I would not recommend anyone wasting their money on this device especially since they charge you a yearly subscription to use it. Don’t buy it.

Slow and Poor customer service. Product and features are strong. Think subscription and pricing are confusing and deceptive. Should offer lifetime license. Very slow and poor customer service. Told in December 2022 that BMW full license had been renewed until November 2023. App worked fine beginning of January, then next time opened and did car scan showed full license as locked. Now been simply trying to get customer service to unlock my full license subscription for several days. This shouldn't be this much trouble!

Carly. This is an awesome app to begin with.. Rouben has helped me a lot with this app in understanding something when I get stuck. They are all awesome people at Carly. For me I have used a few diagnostic tools to scan cars but this one has a mechanics view of the situation going on with your car and helps you on what steps to take at looking for problems going on. This to me is very helpful. My opinion is you can not go wrong with Carly…buy this it is well worth your investment. Awesome people awesome product…

Zero stars. Their app/adapter helped me render my iDrive useless. I can’t even adjust the volume anymore. Can’t restore the backup. I read online that people use BimmerCode. So, I’ll give them a try. I sent requests to support, but they are useless. They tell you to submit your request a different way. You submit your request and they inform you your problem has been solved and your request was closed. Only they didn’t resolve anything other than you having an open ticket, which is now closed. And unresolved. I’ll see if I can be refunded. This was such a horrible experience. If you are considering using Carly, I suggest you do the opposite of what I did, and don’t. They emailed me to tell me that I didn’t send in the logs correctly. Do yourself a favor: save the frustration and anger, get BimmerCode.

So worth it. I know a lot of hooplah has been made about the subscription fee, but honestly it's worth it for what the app allows. For me specifically, I have an R61 Paceman S All 4 Mini. One of the biggest pet peeves for me in the car came down to the gong and alert sounds the MINI makes, constantly interrupting my music in car with nagging reminders. In my case I changed my lights to LEDs and due to their low power consumption the car would notify of bulbs being out that weren't. I'd get at least 5-10 audible canbus errors on average as I drove and the Carly app allowed me to disable the system nag. As well as this, I shut off the seatbelt alert and set my car to auto lock as soon as the ignition went on. Additional touches include setting mirrors to autofold and window control from the fob; lows and fog lights coming on with unlock instead of just the parking lights. Well worth the price in comparison to the cost of an aftermarket audio system (which would remove the mini alerts completely) or purchasing an expensive set of *maybe* canbus free LEDs, on top of the other capabalities. Hoping for future coding to completely disable speed sensitive audio in the car but for now I'm cool with finally being able to drive without my car incessantly nagging me lol this thing is awesome I can't say it enough! Must buy for MINI owners fed up with their car's uppity shenanigans.

Awesome app & support. At first I was upset with the app due to its price. I ran into a couple of issues coding my 2014 BMW F10 and would just leave it at that. Once I had enough time to sit down and play with the coding, I kept receiving the same errors. I ended up sending an email to the support team and to my surprise someone replied with a solution within an hour. WOW!! Talk about great customer service, the tech instructed me on how to update the obd2 and all the coding options worked as expected. I love this product, it’s worth every penny. Keep up the great work.

Overall dissatisfied for the price. Paid $30 or so for the dongle, and roughly $118 for all brand support, which is an annual charge. I am finding that the models in the app that are supported are severely lacking - in fact I find myself running more into what is not covered by the app than what is - Saab 9-7x not covered. Camaro? They have 2003 to 2009 - there’s no such thing as an 03 to 09 camaro. No support for a 98-02 camaro, zero Pontiac firebird or GTO support. Mustangs are covered back to 2000 despite a 1999 and 2000 mustang being the same thing. GM trucks are also a mess - Tried to scan a 05 suburban - can scan a suburban only as old as 07, but tahoes are covered until 06 and Yukons are covered until 04? Makes no sense. I give the app two stars because I am pretty happy with how well the app does when I DO run into a car that is compatible with it - I can access a lot of features to each vehicle. However, I bought this to take in my pocket when I go look for cars to buy and this things lack of brand support makes me better off bringing a big clunky scanner that will pull CEL codes on any car. In short - unless some big changes come to this app I will not be renewing my subscription. Not remotely worth $118+ a year for limited cars supported.

Buyer beware. Paid feature - battery registration on BMW - does NOT work. Repeated request for help from support only points me to their online help which does not resolve my issue even with repeated explanations that I followed it to a T. Even worse, they claim premium support but all I get is - go to our online support which frankly does not resolve the issue. Oh and their response time - goodluck as it takes them forever to respond. I spent $83 for the paid version and it has not been useable, I am asking for refund but likewise has not gotten any response if it’s possible or not. Way too expensive experiment. So you have been warned !!!!

Mislead by the app. I need to reset the transmission adaptations on my MINI. I downloaded the app and used an OBD adapter I had. A message popped up that it was able to do the job, but I had to order their OBD adapter, so I did. It arrived almost two weeks later due to international shipping, only to use it and have the app tell me that function is not supported. I email support which pretty much told me we’re sorry to hear that, here’s how you can return it, but they don’t refund return shipping. So I’ve wasted two weeks with my car stuck in the driveway when, had the app told me the truth from the start, I could have bought something else then. The email also included the unprofessional touch of smiley emojis.

Scam artists. Selling modules with an implied annual subscription in the small print. Real jerks, steer clear! Certainly do not give them a credit card as they will keep that information in their database forever. Also: there are better apps and tools than this. Weirdly regimented in how it is willing to give you a diagnosis - useless and needlessly complex if you’re trying to do anything more than a simple scan. With so many negative and one or two star reviews, and no working like from the Apple App Store to report the app, the situation smells funny. I don’t think Apple is in cahoots with Carly but certainly Carly is gaming the system. With a lot more effort and passion than they put in their terrible app. Be forewarned!

Carly has been terrific for my BMW’s. Can’t say enough about this device. If you own older BMW’s like me and keep them for many years and miles this help you keep them maintained and running as BMW made them. The annual fee for full use is made up every year easily on my cars. One trip to a dealer or independent would cost more for a quick diagnostic than the fee. And you have coding capabilities as noted by others that are truly a blessing. Love you guys.

Excellent Customer Service. Well, let’s just put aside the product itself for a second. There’s always going to be hits and misses with a platform such as Carly; not everyone drives BMWs or late model cars and therefore everyone will get different results when trying to tune and program their vehicles. My scanner went kaputz today, email the Customer Service and IMMEDIATELY got an response from “Rouben” ~ don’t know where the extra O came from so he must be from UK… Anyway, he’s saying he’s sending another one to me at no charge and I’ll just have to wait to see how long before the new scanner arrives. I would like to also mention that it’s been very fun messing with my G31 5 series and MK3 TTS as I didn’t know you could change the light intensity on these LEDs. Other than the defective scanner; 5 Stars for Carly and my friend ROUBEN….!!!!

Unreliable on E90, stay away. Boy, where do I start? If you need a reason to get a headache and just down right get mad for spending money on something that barely works, look no further! The Carly Adapter will mislead and trick you to think you can do all these cool things on this app and program your BMW like the pros! It’s hard to connect to the stupid adapter via WiFi. The app is buggy and the instructions aren’t very good either, stupid vague. I’ve never in the history of technology, have had issues like the one I’m facing with this stupid adapter/app. I’m just trying to read some codes and other things, can’t even do them because the adapter is crap. Not sure if anyone from Carly is gonna read this, but I am not pleased in any way, shape, or form.

Excellent customer Service. Just Recently my adapter stop working out of no where. I have been using Carly for about two years, excellent app if you like working on your own car. After emailing their customer support team about my adapter assuming that I was going to get the run around within minutes I heard back from their support team about getting a new adapter out to me. I highly recommend Carly because you’re not only getting a high quality device but you’re also getting the support behind it.

Top Notch Customer Service!. I’ve had Carly since 2016 and really have enjoyed the flexibility and optionality the product provides to enhance your car experience. Unfortunately my older unit would no longer pick up the blue tooth signal in my 2018 BMW F80 M3. The great folks at Carly responded very professionally to my email expressing my disappointment, and promptly addressed the issue by sending me an updated replacement unit that worked without issue. They followed up with numerous emails to ensure the unit was working and I was completely satisfied.

Total rip off. They sell you the scanner & one year subscription then after you have the scanner for a week they cancel your subscription but don’t refund your money & just give you the run around via email until you get sick of dealing with it & they tell you to buy another subscription. $100 bucks for a week, no thanks! I wish I had done a little more research before buying. Total scam!!

Great app!. Great experience with Carly for BMW. Gives ability to unlock numerous features that are not accessible with the stock configuration. Had issues with getting the adapter to communicate with my car at first. Reached out to Carly support and Robert was very helpful and offered to send me a new adapter. It turned out that the adapter worked just fine. It was my car that was the issue. I resolved the issue by disconnecting my car battery for 5-10 minutes. After doing this, Carly worked flawlessly. If Carly has issues connecting to the car, try disconnecting/reconnecting the battery. Of note, I also connected a basic OBDII diagnostic tool to my car before disconnecting the battery and it was having a hard time reading the car as well. So, the car was definitely the problem, not Carly. Highly recommend!

Total junk . They charged me another 167 bucks for nothing. I ordered a Carly dongle about this time last year. I noticed a charge for $167 on my account. It was declined because I had the car cut off. I looked to see why and apparently you have to send them original receipt and it Hass to be two weeks before the cancellation date or you have to pay for the whole extra year. Even if you’re not using it at all. which I am not and have not .. it’s no good to begin with. It’s not a good product, I get as much information from a cheap Walmart scanner if not more. Total waste of money and time and once they get your information they will continuously charge you. 167 bucks a year for nothing .. beware … total scam ..,

Very poor and misleading. I purchased the full version of the Carly app after testing with the free version as they suggested . I changed the battery In my 06 series 5 Bmw from a 110 Ah lead acid to a 92Ah agm battery the change was supposed to be easy according to Carly. However when I tried to register the new battery Carly crashed . I tried a couple of times and it did the same thing . I contacted Carly and they told me they new of the issue crashing yet they still sold me the app with no mention anywhere of the issue on the free version . They said they have an update for the problem . I don’t know how a lot of comments on here say their tech support is amazing , it’s not . I can’t get a date from them for the update even though I’ve tried a couple of times I just get the same generic response all the time . I have asked for a refund as they are promoting an app for a considerable price that they know does not function as described . Very disappointed in the app, tech support and generally everything with Carly . How can you charge someone almost $60 for an app and then have to buy the adaptor for a further $80 and you know your product doesn’t work ? Carly you should be ashamed of yourself and apple for allowing an expensive app that doesn’t do what it should be sold .

Worth the lifetime subscription. I’ve been using Carly for many years now and seen them evolve. I’m very protective about my BMW. I’ve been very happy with the stability of the product. The devs are responsive and quality conscious. Initially I would tinker around with the settings, tweaking it and customizing it. Recent my car overheat and went into limo mode while driving in the mountains suddenly. I had the adapter, plugged it in and fired up the app. Within a minute it diagnosed the codes and captured something called sub freeze frames which are specific to BMW and told me what the exact problem was - a failed water pump. It told me exactly when it failed and how long I had been driving without a water pump (less than a mile thankfully). That helped me determine the next steps, I made a few phone calls to get some quotes on installing a new water pump and I had the car towed to the appropriate workshop and I knew exactly what’s needed to be done and I had the best price for the job upfront. No haggling or surprises. That was the neat part, knowing exactly what was wrong at the right time. I knew I could wait for a few minutes for the engine to cool down and then start the car and move it off the road into the shoulder and I knew that I couldn’t drive it more than a minute. Okay peace of mind knowing exactly what was wrong. Totally worth the lifetime subscription. Plus the new digital garage feature is very cool

Value, Real Value. I see complaints about the subscription fee, but you get what you pay for, folks. I have 2 BMWs and a Mazda. I use Carly for all. It gives me the knowledge to make rational arguments with the service shops. I was able to diagnose a problem with my M3 last year and tell the dealer what needed to be fixed, after he couldn’t figure it out. Saved me huge $$. I have cleared intermittent “check engine” faults that would have cost me hundreds to get cleared at the dealer. And when I had problems using the Gen2 device, Carly shipped me a Universal device at no charge that fixed the problem. And the CEO followed up. Carly is the REAL DEAL.

Awesome so far!. Put in a request to figure out where my package went or if it was lost, within the hour I received a response the Team (David) more then willing to figure out what was wrong and how it could be solved. It was all my mistake obviously but Im glad that their costumer service will go above and beyond to help out their costumers. Id recommend this product for anyone that wants a great product and a amazing costumer support team!

You lost a potential customer with recent service charges. I was just about to purchase the app and the adapter from Carly when i realize that you have to pay extra for several services involving coding including just registering a battery. Im ok with the adapter price and the yearly subscription but if i have additional, ongoing, recurring, unpredictable costs to use this, then i cannot justify the purchase. I leave this review so that the owner knows precisely why they are not getting a revenue stream from me. If this policy changes then i will definitely purchase. For now i am pursuing other more complicated but predictable options

Carly app bricked my adapter. Purchased the new app to register my new battery. After repeated attempts it kept failing. Was familiar with battery registration, I had done it with the previous Carly app I had purchased. Not only did the new app refuse to register the battery but it bricked my adapter. Lost a lot of money as a result. Would not recommend this app unless you have money to throw away. I am active in the BMW online community and am very experienced with ODB based apps. None of the other promised features worked either. Seems like a bait and switch so I don’t want others to have the same experience.

A must have for every car owner. Regardless if you are mechanically inclined or not. This tool can save you thousands on repairs and give you the ability to have insight to exactly what it taking place with your car before you bring it in for service. Super easy to install and a highly intuitive user interface make this a great aide with any model car including BMW and MINI. The customizations for BMW are really hand as well. Highly recommended

Good app but has a minor bug. This app is my favorite and love the new features that are being added to tell me more about my codes. But the app used to stay connected to my iPhone on Bluetooth back then but now it disconnects when I swipe out the app and go back in. Can’t you guys make it stay connected on the background please

Very greedy developers.. I have been using this app for almost 4 years and it gets more expensive and predatory every year. Originally this app was exclusively for BMW/Mini. It offered more advanced functions for those cars. First it was $60 for the OBDII scanner (which has been updated and made obsolete several times) and $40 for the full version of the app. Relatively reasonable. Then they added extra functions such as iDrive coding and battery registration which all individually cost $5-15. Useful features but it’s disingenuous to offer extra paid features on a $40 ‘full version’ app. Now they’ve switched to a subscription model that costs $85/yr, and also introduced yet another version of their OBDII scanner. And they supposedly support every auto manufacturer now. Not only are they demanding an absurd amount of money over only a 5 year period, but the actual functions outside of BMW are extremely basic, more or less on par with a $30 Autozone scanner. To top it off, support is absolutely abysmal. They rarely respond and when they do, it is a short email in broken English referring you to their own FAQ section. This used to be a convenient, less expensive alternative to an expensive Foxwell unit, but now it is much more expensive and less capable. And this is to say nothing of future revisions or price hikes (which seem quite inevitable). Just buy a Foxwell and save yourself the headache.

Great Diagnosis Tool. The Carly app paired with the OBD connector is awesome! Gives extremely detailed descriptions of any errors that you may have. I had some issues with my car and Carly helped me figure out what was going on! Saved me a ton of money by me not having to go to a shop and pay just for a diagnosis. P.S. If you have any issues with the app or scanner, reach out to support. They replied extremely quickly and helped me resolve my issue. I spoke with Bernard from their support and he was a huge help.

Great support, lots of functionality for low cost. For what this device can do the price is outstanding. I’ve used it on three of my cars and it’s saved me hundreds on service fees, additionally I’ve unlocked the potential of my cars. Why BMW doesn’t preprogram the comfort features, or allow management of the features through iDrive I don’t get, but Carly gets it done. Great support too. I’m upgrading the Head Unit, Screen and idrive and tech support is there to help.

Unscrupulous business. I bought the updated scanner direct from Carly, bought a subscription via the App Store. Perhaps due to modern BMW I-drive restrictions, many features that you could previously program are no longer available in a 2022 X3 G01. Therefore I canceled my subscription via the appleID subscriptions. Today I find a $175 charge on the credit card I used solely to purchase the hardware. The charge is being reversed by the credit card company, but beware of this former reputable company. They do not notify you of the subscription expiration date. They tell you you can cancel the subscription via the mycarly app, but that option does not appear if you have already canceled via the App Store/ Apple ID method.

Used to be a good app, now it’s garbage. I’ve been using this app for over 10 years. It used to work reliably. Recently I went to use it and discovered that my “license” had “expired”. It had been a good tool so I repurchased it thinking that it would continue to be useful. I was wrong. It is incredibly slow now, after running the diagnostics it automatically tries unsuccessfully to connect to “Smart Mechanic”, which results in an error message to cancel or retry. Upon cancellation it becomes an endless loading symbol that never completes and you have to quit and start all over. And then it just repeats itself. So disappointing.

Worth every penny!!!!. Into the second year now and had the adapter fail. The carly team has your back no charge 0$ had it here in a couple days. Never before have i seen a group of people so deadset on making sure u are taken care of. without a doubt the finest in the buisness. You all rock...just renewed the subscription to the every brand and still no complaints. Yes is not cheap but neither was that beautiful german engineered aww inspiring machine. Nor is the dealer repairs. With this little tool you can save thousands of dollars just in the coding of what the dealership charges as a “upgrade” . BMW’s are some of the most complex electrical nightmares ever to be created. A simple .5v bulb can send you into decreased enginge performance mode. A dead battery now ya have a missfire if it starts. The carly app lets you clear it all. View live data open those exhaust flaps fold the mirrors windows up down with the fob and more .. soooo much more ... dont wait just buy it already. If ya dont like it ... well than ur weird and you prolly dont like anything else either..lol... great job carly team ..... keep up the good work....

Stole my money. Basically this company stole 150euros from me. I purchased online, with the package saying it works on Mercedes. When I installed the app it actually doesn’t even have the Mercedes SL in the app. I tried refunding but they have a very “smart” scheme, they say the device is 50euros, add another 50 euros for the app and then another 50 for something else. But in the end while you check out it changed to 150 euros all in the app. Which is not refundable cause you use it. I tried explaining the app is no use for me, as it doesn’t have my own car inside the app. Don’t bother, there is no refund. I will action it with my lawyer, I am sure they do same thing to all customers and also to avoid paying taxes on the device (which comes “free”)

Super to have access to all cars and brands!. I was a bit skeptical at first. I decided to dive in and try the Universal Adapter and the Carly all brands app. So far I’m not disappointed. My vehicles are older, so limited in some Carly functions. Yet what I do have is great and will definitely be able to save me money and time in diagnosing issues properly. Since I am working on replacing the vehicles, having the Used Car check will be a great benefit. Everybody sells a used car for some reason, right? Being able to detect that reason BEFORE the purchase will be an advantage to me. The Customer Support team is also great. They were swamped at year end but really came through for me with my questions. Thanks Carly!

Very disappointed and a ripoff!!!!. I purchased the Carly OBD adapter. It arrived yesterday. I downloaded the Carly app and paired it with the adapter. Ran a scan and then purchased the “full” version. Did a great job of taking funds from my Apple Pay account but app showed no change. Tried rebooting, .......nothing. Contacted Carly “help”, ........nothing. Very disappointed!!!!!!! Paid almost $200 for nothing!!!!!

Looks like a comprehensive app. However I have had severe problems with these kind of apps that link to a Bluetooth adapter connected to your car. So the question is, is this going to work? Because with my other devices that are similar, it takes about 100 attempts to connect to the Bluetooth device. And then sometimes, I can’t even connect. Unfortunately in order to find out if this is going to work there is an $80 charge for the adapter and then on top of that a $60 subscription fee. That is a little bit too steep, for now I will stick with my Innova device. Maybe I can buy a real Snap-on scanner for the cost of this thing. It would be a better use of my stimulus money.

Used to be good but too expensive now. When I first used Carly about 8 years ago it was a revolutionary and great app at a modest price; you bought a special dongle at $50 and the app was free is cheap. But then a new version required a new dongle which annoyed me but I played along. Then the next major version required yet another special dongle and $60/year subscription. Normally when you buy hardware and software it works forever; it just doesn’t have the latest features, which is understandable. However NOT Carly; they disable all older versions so that they do not run. You are forced to pay their newest price. Oh and many features are extra cost options. As other reviews state they are ever more GREEDY. They could have had the market to themselves but due to their greed there are now more modestly priced apps that are just as good. And those apps use commercial dongles instead of Carly specific ones. 8 years ago they were a star. Now they are just fading into oblivion.

Yearly subscription with new version. Watch out, if you paid for the old version like I did, now they want you to upgrade to the new version so you can pay AGAIN, a yearly subscription ....no thanks. People are not dumb, you can tell the 5 star reviews trying to explain why you should pay for the subscription are posted by the developers. For those of you with old version, do not upgrade, stay and use the old version, do not update the app no matter what, otherwise the update will render your old version useless, and you will see the “present box” and be forced to use the new version

Carly. I received my Carly in the mail about a week ago, and downloaded the app. The lite version is alright but did not suit my needs. I understand that 55 dollars sounds a little much just for a full version. After my purchase of the full version, I realized that this is just what I needed. Its a great app that comes with a lot of features and its right at the disposal of your phone. Being able to see what was wrong with my car was awesome but being able to read out real time data as I drove was probably one of the most helpful tools. I definitely recommend this purchase of both the app and the adapter. Saves a lot of money, time, and to say the least its pretty dummy proof.

This used to be my goto app for BMW/Mini. The new version just keeps making this worse. I bought this to reset the battery in a 128 BMW and the older version just worked. This new version reports brake light issues for an E9X on a R56 Mini. It also lists as critical a rear window defroster fault on the same Mini. The rear window defroster is not a critical and while the fault is likely because of a resistance reading the rear window defroster works just fine. Now when I connect to a new 2020 BMW this app just does not work or really does not communicate well with the new car. I really wish ICarly would go back and focus on the brand and not being a tool for everyone. It just is not worth it anymore.

Unreliable, difficult to use. I’m done with this product. Wish I hadn’t wasted my money on the app and the adapter. Getting the app to connect with the adapter (that I purchased from Carley) is nearly impossible. And when it does connect, it will conveniently lose the connection to the adapter just before you are ready to upload adaptations. As a last ditch effort to recover my investment I updated the app and now it won’t recognize my original purchase and wants me to pay another $60 to use it. After several years of use with very spotty results, I won’t be paying any more money. It’s a great idea, but appears to be poorly executed. 5 minutes with Carista’s adapter and app were significantly more productive.

Maybe still worth it. I am adding to my original review which is at the end of this new write up. I have recently been surprised by the makers of the carly app by then sending a massage on the old version of the app offering a free upgrade to the new version of the app with all features unlocked. I have not yet check all the features to make sure they are unlocked for use but i am sure they will be. I will say this app is very handy and with this new development where you may not have to pay every year to use it then i would recommend you get it if you have a bmw. As long as you do not need a yearly subscription and it is a one time payment i say get it other wise read my previous review below. This company is getting greedier by the minute read my review on the old version of this app. This new version nothing seems to be changed except now they want to to get a subscription of 59 dollars and some change and pay that every year just to diagnose your car or to use your device you bought that also cost 85 to 99 dollars and yes it is also from them. Review. Great investment I chose to do the best reader and the best plan so I could use it on any of my family’s cars and it works great. The app can get a little confusing sometimes if u arent a very big car person cause it’s a lot of technical terms but if u can figure that part out this little device will help you out IN A LOT OF WAYS. Always thought from the adds it looked a little fake but I needed one anyways so I took the risk and it really paid off.

Horrific Privacy Options. Carly costs over $80 a year and still tracks all “activity across other companies’ apps and websites”. If this were a free app I could understand the developers selling my privacy for their profit, but this app has zero reason to track my online data and I refuse to install any app that attempts to. Carly’s response to my above paragraph review implied they don’t sell information collected through their app (which gives them access to all of your activity across all apps you install and all websites you visit on your phone). But their privacy notice states: “We use these technologies to secure and improve the app and to be able to provide advertising.” How do you provide information to advertising agencies without selling it? You give it for free.

Great functionality. I’ve used Carly for several years and have appreciated its ability to change my car’s settings (turn off/on daytime running lights, automatic locking, etc) and to diagnose engine faults. Its capability is continually updated and improved, even for older vehicles. I have been particularly impressed with the customer support at Carly. Responses are fast and thorough and only delayed by my own failure to provide complete information (for example, I could have included a screen shot instead of describing it). Overall, without question this is a 5-star product.

Money down the drain. I bought the original Carly for BMW app, the adapter and unlocked some of the modules by paying additional, totaling nearly $200. It worked great at the time. Then the app forced me to update and when it did, it reverted to the lite version. Meaning I do not have the app, the functions or the modules I paid for. Instead it asks me to pay an additional $60 for the app to work. On top of that, it says it will bill me every year! I tried the restore option and it did not change anything. I am a private user, not a BMW shop and the $200 itself was a bit of a stretch to shell out in the first place for its occasional use. But now I can’t even use what I paid for. If this doesn’t look like a rip-off, I am not sure what is.

Haven’t purchased yet can’t wait. I’m just commenting on the user post above, bruh it’s only $60 a year annually that’s not the end of the world. You pay annual for a gym membership you probably don’t even use. But just the idea of having a personal reader for ur car that can track codes plus handle i drive and few more features is great for the personal car user that knows lil to enough about cars to understand, with the app i feel like i would be on top of everything with the car, so i can’t wait to purchase this app once i pull off the lot very soon

Updated OBD SCANNER. I could not be more pleased with the customer service from Carly. I found that I needed a new, updated scanner, but couldn't find my original order number. Vicky reached out, took my information down, found my original order, and had a new one shipped in 2 days! She constantly updated me with the status of my order and even handled an address change. Carly universal adapter. Absolutely awesome tool for the average person that wants to clear a common fault code. BUT PAYING $108 A YEAR TO USE IT ONCE OR TWICE IS A JOKE YOU MAY AS WELL GO TO A MECHANIC AND GET THEM TO CLEAR IT FOR THAT PRICE

Does not work on all BMW'S. Wanted to stop my X1 from doing a headlight check at start up as I installed LED and receiving error messages. Purchased both the adapter and the full version of the app.... Circa $180 later and the app was kind enough to inform me the software does not function on my E84 (Fyet the fact) because of some firmware issue. Contacted Carly for assistance or a refund and heard nothing. It's been over a week. Pretty pissd off.

Outstanding support!. truly a great app, has helped me resolve several issues with my car which would have been exponentially more expensive had a dealer resolved them. But the true standout is their after sales support! Absolutely top-notch support! One very happy customer!

Great product backed by fantastic customer service. I used the app a few back and renewed it along with purchasing the new Carly universal adapter. The adapter was shipped to me but got lost in the mail system. I reached to Carly with only a hope of them being able to offer some form of help it tracking it. To my utter amazement and gratitude, they shipped me a replacement adapter. Couldn’t have asked for any better outcome. Thank you!!!

Good app and great support. Been using Carly for at least a few years and bought prob 4 of their adaptors, since it’s now universal all the older adaptors are obsolete and the new one won’t work on my own car but that’s due to age (j1865). I’ll often grab the Carly dongle instead of pulling out my Snap-On Solus Edge and it more often than not does what I need it to do to customers cars. I had an adaptor fail on me and was replaced within days with only a few emails back and forth which is great service too. Thanks

Used to work. Have used Carly for 18 months and would have rated 3.5 stars. Worked well and did what I needed it to. Smart mechanic is little more than google searches that often point towards things that have nothing at all to do with the problem code. Recently my app started freezing when going into diagnostics and Carly support has been responsive but totally useless. I’m now being asked to give details of the problem for a third time even though a ticket was issued and the same ticket number is applied in each communication. I give up. Cancelling my subscription.

Not worth the hype. I bought this because of all the reviews on YouTube! However, in the real world, this is rubbish! I scanned my car (Toyota) and was told there was a fault and that I needed to buy more for this to work. Bought the Toyota add-on and it will not clear the code, just tells me what I knew the problem was. Apparently is works better on European cars, but I would not advise to buy it for any car! Rather go buy a cheap eBay one and save yourself $200 plus the add-ons!

Poor customer service. Update: You had promised to give me a reply in 24 hours, how many hours has gone since? Let me tell you, you had used 12 days which is 288 hours, what a joke……. Also, I can’t remember how many times I had replied to your colleague, it is totally fine if you guys do not want to proceed the warranty claim, just don’t pretend you are taking serious concern of your reputation by replying this review. If I can give zero star even negative , I will. This company is hopeless. I tried to give myself an opportunity not to give this rating, and followed their instructions to provide the ticket number, the company said will reply in 24 hours, right now is more than 48 hours since I provided. What is the service here? If you had bought from them, you better prayed to god that the adapter won’t go wrong, otherwise good luck to you. Carly ticket number: 488577, let see if I will have your reply in 24 hours. Even though the product is good, what if the adapter is not functioning and the company ignore your email and not giving fixing the problem under warranty, it means that you throw money straight to the sea if you buy the product from them. It looks like the author provided a solution to ask myself to contact the support team. I reported the adapter not working on 5/9/21, and had never received a reply since. The company just care about the customer monies at all. Whatever how good is the product, or even though how quick response on the review, with this level of service, I can’t see the company will be successful.

Carly app not working!. Subscribed for two years now, everything was fine till about two months.Carly app does not work for over 2 months! No solution from “so called” customer service team. No update from Carly on when they’ll fix the issue. Tried on multiple devices - still the same. I will refrain from any purchase if I’m new user until they fix the issue

Misleading!!!. I purchased my Carly because every freaking review that I read or saw on YouTube and everybody that promotes it on YouTube says that you can turn the stop/start function off in Audi‘s, of course after I purchased it and the subscription, didn’t give the option, contacted Carly and they confirmed that it’s not possible in Australia. So I can’t return the Carly because I bought the subscription and got the hardware free so it’s very misleading and they do that so you can’t send it back, dirty tricks not very nice, waste of money

It’s a mixed bag. We have a number of cars thanks to kids on p-plates. Carly works very on our BMW E90. It provides limited diagnosis and coding on our BMW G20, even less on our Range Rover Sport L320. We also have a 2002 Volvo C70 T5. And whilst it connects to the car, it can’t read anything of any use. 3/5. I am in indifferent but did expect more based on the advertising.

DONT BUY THIS ITEM. its nothing but an overpriced obd reader with the added ripoff of having to pay more just to see an inbuilt notifications that your car is very bad and you must pay a monthly fee to see why your car is very bad.

Scam. Paid for the app and the adapter. Received no confirmation of my purchase for the adapter and still waiting for a response regarding the 2 day dispatch guaranteed on the website over a week later.

Great tool but costly. I used this tool to gather diagnostic information and reset a few errors. I had to buy a Carly adapter to unlock all features and this very expensive at $100 just for the adapter, what is most disappointing is it cost $120/year on top of the cost of adapter. Because of this I decided to test another app without the ongoing subscription cost and to buy a generic Bluetooth adapter for under $10. It may not look as pretty as Carly but it does the same job at a 1/3 of the cost without any ongoing charges.

No response. How come they don't respond to emails?

Forced obsolescence!. I bought the adapter a few years ago, as well as the pro version of the app. I now have a new car and have found out that they have released a new version of the adapter, and removed the pro version. I have tried to connect to my new car with the adapter and am now informed I have to buy the new adapter (pretty much the same as the old one), and the new version of the app. Absolute money gouging!

DO NOT BUY THIS APP. Carly is an annual subscription and not a one time purchase. I was unaware of this until after i purchased the app license, they will also not refund you for your purchase even though in the terms and conditions it says that you are obligated for a refund up until 14 days after purchase.

2013 Audi A4 B8. Don’t bother if you have an A4 B8, there’s hardly any customisation for features. Very expensive and all I was able to do was a health check. Wouldn’t have bought it if I was given the options before paying. And no, there’s no way to see what you can customise before paying. Edit: the lite version did not work, I was not able to see the customisation options until I paid for a year subscription. You guys love your automated replies. Just like all the emails.

Carly Gen II OBD. Had a few problems getting Carly to connect to my F32 but Rouben quickly got me sorted out and I was then able to reset an erroneous low tyre pressure warning.

Not worth it. So I purchased a year subscription as I read ‘ works on all Toyota and Lexus models’ as stated on their price list. I own a 2018 Landcruiser Prado Kakadu, and upon trying to connect the app to my vehicles OBD reader nothing happens, I get constantly asked to try connect again but still nothing. I went onto do some research and found another scan tool that actually works. Now these guys have already taken my money happily and literally after 3 days of constantly trying to get this Carly app to work I asked for a refund and they are not willing to help at all. So I’d advise to stay clear and actually do more research before you spend your hard earned money on an app that might not work. Update to the response I received…. so they are aren’t denying the fact that even though it states “works on all Toyota and Lexus models” in which case it does NOT work on my 2018 Landcruiser, they aren’t willing to refund me due to their lack of customer service and attitude towards the whole issue. Asking me to supply my ticket number is not my issue, find it yourself! I’m done with this whole drama!

Sure game changer for car owners. I had the older dongle I’ve been using for the last 3 or 4 years. It had save me money on repairs and services as there are some I can do myself instead of paying the Car Dealership to do my car service. It kept them honest when I have to the car to them for complicated repairs and services. Now I bought the Universal dongle and it’s so easy to use. I love the battery health check as one of my car is about 10years old and the battery had not been changed since I bought the car brand new. I was hesitant to take it for a long drive as I don’t know the condition of the car batter until I checked it with the Carly battery health check. 10 out of 10

Absolute ripoff. Don’t waste your money. The app offers nothing more than the free apps. Carly locks you into subscription with no renewal reminders and makes it very difficult to end the subscription.

Paid and won’t let me access my account. Paid my yearly subscription after the app updated logged me out won’t let me log back in and they won’t reply to emails for support.

A bit disappointed primary features don’t work. I bought the full version of the app with the newest Carly adaptor primarily to remove the warning on start up and to activate video in motion as promoted by this company. These features along with many other don’t seem to work on my car even though they were advertised to work specifically with my car. Seems to me as if I wasted $200 all up for these features that are not working.

Coding failed. Coding failed when trying to change seat warmer memory. Now the seat module is corrupt and the back up function doesn’t even work!

Saves you thousands over time. I am writing this to all the negative response, as I do not think that is a true representation of this product. I purchased this subscription & dongle just on 2 years. I will say at first all the minor things like personalisation are a “want”, and of course your expectations can exceed when you want to modify the original specifications which this application has not been written around. If you want to recode & modify, buy something that actual workshops use. Where this product really shines is in its simplicity and ability to identify problems, major problems, which saves you thousands when you have a car out of warranty (just like mine) and the goodwill has kinda reached its limits with the manufacture. I have an F30 320d with quite high mileage now, and let’s be fair that modern high mileage diesels will have issues if you do not keep an eye on that DPF & other emission electronics. The ticking time bomb was my EGR valve. Now, I did not know the valve was failing when it was running rough & overrunning after turning the engine off. I thought at first it was a bad dose of fuel... Now either a dealer would milk me dry replacing everything - or you continue to drive, putting cleaning agents in your fuel ect till you completely waste your motor. This app gave me the fault codes I needed & I could quickly research to resolve the issue. Had it fixed within a few hours, luckily BMW had everything in stock & if you don’t be a jerk to the parts person they will give you a decent price too. You just gotta be nice, it’s not that hard!! Carly saved me thousands & I can not thank these guys enough. If you have read to the bottom of this now, you “need” this product. If you are technical or mechanical minded and don’t care getting your hands dirty, invest in a proper workshop manual (not a hack pls, buy it as an actual book & read it) as this little Carly service will save you so much over time if you plan on keeping your car. Keep up the great work Carly. Keep on coding & listen to your core market.

Carly is number 1. I have tried other scanners BUT the where no where as good as Carly.Carly did everything I expected and more.I would recommend Carly to anybody with car problems in my case it was 2 BMWs.Agian great product..

Great customer service. Have had a great experience so far with Carly. I have an older model car which needed an adapter to use Carly. The service team sent me a link confirming what adapter I would need and were very prompt in their reply. Can’t wait to use it.

Carly for BMW. Have to give this 5 stars. I live approximately 600km from the nearest BMW dealer and drive an E90 with 240,000km on the clock. I do most of my own work on the car and have used Carly since 2016 for service resets, Diagnostics (fault codes), some coding and battery registration. Used Carly support once (Bernard) and the response was excellent.

Expensive and useless. Expensive and the software is subscription annually. Would have been cheaper to take to BMW and do a one off code. Everything else is useless. Other competitors offer the same for less than half the price.

Not great for BMW X7. Very limited options for BMW X7. I’ve sent numerous requests to have coding features added and nothing has been update for 2 years. Seems pretty expensive yearly licence for little features. No windscreen sensitivity adjustment, no driving mode set on start, no audio control etc.

Ripoff. Charges you a yearly subscription straight off. The scanner was limited in the information that it provided. Couldn’t get the obd live gauges to work. Better products on the market.

Bought App and Adapter for two functions. I bought it because they claimed It would register the new battery in my BMW, and recode sideview mirrors to fold in automatically. Carly couldn’t do either. Attempts to get a solution from tech support to register battery failed. They only referred me to Online Help. When that didn’t work, they stopped communicating. The recode that didn’t work, I haven’t addressed yet. So, I spent $75+/- for an annual subscription and got nothing for it. I had to pay a BMW tech $50 to register the battery.

Carly Gen II Adaptor. I DO NOT RECOMMEND! Who wants to pay €70 a year for an app!! What a rip off. The light version doesn’t provide any way to clear codes present on the vehicle, and it only reads them and give a very generic description. When you click on the generic description to view more, it tells you to upgrade to the full version to continue. Not a fan. Just wasted my money buying the adaptor for nothing. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Not that good anymore. Have used this app for a almost 5 years. Unfortunately I have noticed a significant deprecation of its quality in the most recent versions. Whereas getting support used to be straightforward, it is now laden with bureaucratic processes where you must fill out forms etc. Response times are also dismal. The app itself is also very buggy to say the least; for example once I connect the app to the dongle I can perform and read my BMW diagnostics successfully, however when I try to access the coding portion of the app I receive errors related to “insufficient communication” which is not precise language that will help me at least underside minimally where the problem may reside. Lastly, the diagnostics report rendered in the app is not at all user friendly - you’ll need to jot down any message / error codes you see in the report and then do a google search to understand what they mean. My advice is to try the demo version of the app and see for yourself as your experience may of course vary from mine. My verdict is to look at other players in this field and see for yourself how this app stacks up against its competition. I’ll be looking myself for something more robust.

Payed for it for nothing. Worse then your average code reader they say if your not satisfied they will give you back your money, the customer service is a joke I tried and they said did you use it, did you report the issue? Absolutely and can barely use cause it’s a glorified code reader! With out dated info

Great customer service!. I had an issue with my adapter, the team at Carly was quick to respond to my support ticket. They worked with me to solve the issue and everything is back as it should be. Quick and good customer service/support!

It’s easy to use, but…. There are many missing advanced features that should be added, like active sound off and CarPlay unlock.

Not particularly bad. Works well but rather a convoluted way to connect. Takes forever to scan my VW but the BlueDriver I had before was the same. Must be VW code that slows it all down. The only major issue is the subscription model as its expensive to sign up for. BlueDriver was free and just as good

Some stuff works, some doesn’t. Customer support lacking. So I bought the app in order to reset my battery of my e90 bmw. I emailed them and they confirmed that it would work. So I bought the app and reprogrammed it. However it didn’t provide confirmation that the hours on the battery had been reset, only that the size was reset. This is only half of the job. I looked all over the forums and FAQ site with no luck so I emailed Carly support. Their reply? A link to their FAQ page! Thanks for nothing! I ended up finding another page on the app to reset the time on the battery separate from setting the size. I then tried to reprogram a few things. The main one was to make the speedometer show the actual speed instead of the normal ‘adjusted’ speed. The app said that it worked, but the speedometer is still wrong. (I tried 3 times with no luck.) There were other settings that don’t seem to have done anything. But other settings worked... I also was unable to even open the wiper option as it said I need the official version 2 Carly adapter. Seems like a scam... Also, it won’t show me any live data because I’m not using the version 2 Carly adapter... which is interesting because I have used a handful of other apps with this adapter and haven’t had any problems. Carly, we know you sell your own hardware but stop pushing it on those of us who paid a ton for a 1-year subscription to your app for full functionality. Pretty disappointed overall, but I guess as long and the battery reset isn’t faked by the app, then it still saved me money over going to the dealer so I guess I’ll still give it 2 stars.

Warning. This app is a scam. 1 months notice to cancel. This app will auto renew without you being aware ( the company assumes you’ll remember what date you sided up a year before) On top of that. If you want to cancel, you have to give them a 1 month notice. Zero support zero refund offered even though I didn’t want the product anymore. Stuck for another year.

Not as good as expected. Bought this for a 2020 BMW X1. I expected more from, what I thought, was a premium product. I think the latest software is not very good. I was not able to access live data until I enrolled in their Beta program. So issue is resolved with the Beta. Support was good with almost daily updates. For the software. You’re not really able to do much offline. I admit I haven’t experimented much but I expected to see data recordings somewhere, or be able to setup my parameters for live data while disconnected. The “send file” function is not explained and they all seem to be empty. I can’t find any kind of user manual. The screens are also quite plain and simple. On some free apps I have you can have different graphical display of parameters. With just a few days usage bugs I’ve seen are battery voltage of 14000 V ( I suspect it should be millivolts), and engine RPM is double what it shows on my tachometer. On the positive side I was able to code the car to start with the auto start / stop function always disabled. That is when I stop at a light or stop sign, engine stays on. In summary, not worth the money, although i bought with a promotion that basically gave me the dongle free. Free options with cheap dongles are better unless you need a specific functionality only available in paid products. Probably wont renew next year.

Perfect!. Hate the auto start sport feature on my BMW. I was able to turn it off using Carly.

Scam. Don’t buy this app. This app is a scam. They automatically renew you after one year for $139 and don’t even tell you. There isn’t even a confirmation after they take your money. To cancel you have to email them and no where on the site does it even show your membership status. There are plenty of free apps that are better.

Still lovin it. 3+ years later, and I still use this thing lol I have ProTools as well, as well as INPA, ISTA, WinKFP, NCSEXPERT, Tool32.. u name it.. I still come back to Carly from time to time though, ESPECIALLY if I wanna code things quickly.. easiest thing in the world to use and it’s my go-to for coding anything like seat belt chime etc. Thanks for improving the app all the time too!

Total Rip Off!. I bought the adapter following a friend recommendation to be able to customize some comfort codes, but now I need to spend another $80/year for a subscription to be able to do anything. Two words: rip off! At least have an option to register 1 car and purchase different options such as pay per car or something else than a full subscription. Too bad 1 star is the lowest option.

Theft. Bought the adapter and app for over $200 last year and now it’s asking to renew license. Not to mention the service options I also bought last time. Pure theft..

Gone downhill!!. User since 2018. 2011 BMW X5 Diesel. Recently changed brakes and oil. The Service Reset feature is blank. Emailed help desk and got a response. Ticket still open but Carly's usually prompt service team seems behind, or befuddled. No answer now for several days. Either way, my subscription fee is so far wasted because I reset my service reminders from the dash! Ticket # 696177

Total Scam. If you sign up online, they trick you into auto renewing fees buried in their terms and conditions. They will charge you over a hundred dollars year after year to use an app that has the same functionality of a free obd scanner. Whatever you do, don’t purchase the tool or the premium features or you will get locked in.

5 years with Carly. Love the new Bluetooth dongle.. I’ve been using this app and Wi-Fi dongle for 5 years with my BMW X5 35d and it’s been great! I’ve just upgraded and it works just as well for the BMW but the Audi I have for which I made the upgrade, it’s super slow to read, like I mean slow.

Coding purposes only. I’ve spent a good few weeks with it, I’ve even used it on 3 different vehicles to make sure I get the full experience, here are my thoughts: 1. The diagnostic functions are a hit or miss at best - here is why I say that, a lot of the time some of the codes aren’t even BMW codes, in other words you can’t find them anywhere. Moreover, when I take the car to BMW and they run it on their systems none of them come up, yet they still keep popping up on Carly. I will say though none of those issues are urgent issues but none the less it’s very annoying and can you so worked up when it’s a non issue, in short don’t let it freak you out, they will keep coming back even after you clear them :) I give diagnostics 2 stars! 2. This brings us to coding, which is where this app does very well, it’s simple, easy, and straight to the point, I like the backup feature it’s a nice touch and will help you restore any coding back to original settings. I will say though sometimes it shows an option availability to perform coding but when you try to actually do it, it tells you the option isn’t available for the model. It’s not a big issue, I give coding 4 stars. 3. Used car check, it’s okay at best - it just helps you validate the VIN integrity as well as the odometer readings to make sure you don’t get screwed by potential fraud. I mean with new cars and new technology I don’t see the need for the feature but hey some folks prefer to have it. I won’t rate it because it’s non applicable from my perspective. 4. Open valve feature is nice, it works as intended and it’s simple enough to perform, literally with one click, I give this one 5 stars. Overall I will give this app 3 stars, mainly because of the fact that the diagnostics codes can be very misleading and not related to any issues with the car, not even the manufacturer code system can detect them. That said, I never had a major code to be able to know for sure but I will say for an annual price of 70 dollars a year it’s ridiculous - I can just buy a BMW code reader for 200 and no annual fees and be better off, it’s too much money just to code your car - I seriously don’t see the need for it, just do your car service on time and take it to your mechanic if you see anything on the dash, and you will be better off.

Do not buy this. The scanner Dosent even work in my 2020 Chevrolet so basically they just took my money. The support team is terrible and they’re responses take days to get and they don’t even have a support phone number to call. I had to resort to calling my credit card company to get a chargeback to get my money back. Buyer beware.

Can’t adjust MMI?. It doesn’t recognize my MMI WHICH IS WHY I BOIGHT IT TO REMOVE FEATURES WHILE DRIVING…

False information to get you to pay. I plugged my obd into my car a connected to the app for it to tell me I have over 25 error codes on my car and the it is in bad health, I have paid for auto doctor (which is a much cheaper app) and it tells me I have 2 codes and scans just as much as this app does. Also tried the personalization part of this app, all it did was load everything then tell me my obd reader isn’t powerful enough to support the codes and tells me to buy the Carly obd readers. They scan your car and tell you false information to scare you into paying for the full version to find out why your car has all these fault codes, when none of them are actually on your car!

Good Product for BMW E90. I purchased the car adaptor and iTunes app And membership to use with my 08 BMW 328i . Unfortunately both the adaptor I purchased and it’s replacement went defective shortly after using them . I’m expecting a replacement next week and hopefully it will work for a while cause the system could be very useful if everything works . Thanks

Ripoff. Buying the scanner only gives you what you car diagnostics provide already. This is just bait to get you to spend $100,s to buy their subscription services to get you what you expected to get from the initial purchase. Then, try to get a refund. They try to tire you out looking for information, completing numerous forms of useless information then emails with more forms and processes. A complete scam!

Don’t fall into the trap.. This company advertises on a promise that’s not accurate. Though the scans are helpful, you never get the value for what you pay. Would be better off getting a real scanner. Rather than pay year after year for no reason. Do not get the subscription. The simple fact that they require an email to cancel the subscription should be a clear sign to stay away.

Auto-Renewal Scam. Be sure to check your auto-renewal date and cancel before the date if you don’t intend to renew as they make you jump through hoops to cancel by opening a support ticket, it’s not as easy as clicking a button in your account. I could never use Carly with my car and I got charged $94 CAD for another year of Carly Premium that I didn’t want. I opened a ticket for a refund, all I got were canned responses basically telling me to go fly a kite. If you do want to subscribe to their premium offering, do so via Apple’s subscriptions as it’s much easier to cancel. I thought Carly was going to be good to have for other cars, but sadly I cannot recommend them. Look for other products and services, don’t use Carly.

Not worth the money. I got the one for VAG specific and it doesn’t even give a lot of options for my car. When I try the coding option 2 modules are greyed as they are currently not supported and will come in future. I paid specifically for VAG to code my car but it was a joke all around. The coding doesn’t even work for somethings. OBD11 is way better and gives way more option without making any other changes and has better payment option. The website doesn’t even specify it is an annual subscription. Total waste of money.

Scam Artists. I specifically bought this scanner for my Lexus and paid extra so it would scan my Lexus and it doesn’t work. First they sent me a defective unit and then only sent me another after an uphill battle for another. Then the new one they sent me won’t work either. It took over 2 hours to scan 15% of the car and then froze. I attempted the 2 hour scan twice and it keeps freezing. Seriously stay away from these people and their awful scanner and stick with the BlueDriver Scanner.

Great product. Cool product, easy to use. Like the company.

Changed phone. Carly app did not recognize previous purchases when I changed phones. Accessing data is cumbersome. Lexus/Toyota insights are limited. Not impressed.

User. In my opinion this company is practising very unfair advertising. They would list an add on module for the application for BMW and not stating that it only works for certain year BMW vehicles. The customer becomes aware of the fact only after purchasing the item in ITunes.

Beyond wonderful- exceptionally useful- a must for your car. After a few months of researching which OBDII reader to buy, I decided to buy the Carly. The main reason is that I have a 2017VW golf, in a city that has 2 dealers who compete for the worst service provider award. I was lucky to experience the “customer is dumb” treatment on my second service ( factory recommended) and decided to take matter in my own hands. I did all the needed service- fluid changes you name it myself. With hands-on working came a new found confidence that I could do additional work on my car. The first step was a diagnostic device. Hence Carly. When Carly arrived- I was certain it was a great buy- because the device arrived in a meticulous package demonstrating attention to detail. Being a new user- I ran into snags with using the system. It was a trivial issue with the app usage- mainly due to my non-familiarity. I contacted support and received a response that certainly resolved the issue I faced, but there was a fine print that (summary) read “ we will not close this ticket until the issue is fully resolved and you let us know that it is resolved”. Now in my lifetime I have contacted quite a few companies to resolve issues. None had this approach of absolute attention and a commitment to get it right. People at Carly are like the added support you need- especially when you’re an amateur in working on your own car. The ability to diagnose issues- get accurate info on the faults and clear them and code the car to your liking is just an additional bonus. I live in a city where winters can be really long and cold. I just coded my seat to memorize my heat setting- not too cold not too hot- exactly toasty- a great start for a great day. Thanks Carly.

Yearly subscription fee. Carly recently changed to yearly subscription fee of over 60$ on top of the 60$ price of the device. Not worth the money.

Does not support 2019 or 2020 x7 yet they take your money. Before purchase it had the option for x7 2020 but when purchased could not read the ECUs

Beware! Total SCAM !!. Bought the Black Friday offering that came with “free scanner”. Premium level of App seemed a good deal if only they’d disclose on the Buy Now page that the amount is just the first of many annual charges, and most likely not at the original low low Black Friday price. Sure in the fine print they hide the “annual subscription “ in their Terms&Conditions, which they write to you when you ask for a refund a few minutes after purchase. This “misunderstanding “ is by design as can be gleaned from the many negative real reviews and not their glorified paid-for ones. Simple Google “mycarly scam”. Wish I’d done this before my purchase.

Scam artists. Stay away.. The app is basically nothing but ads to push you to buy more monthly subscriptions. I could maybe overlook the greed, but the setup process is very user hostile and expects you to have deep level knowledge of the mechanics of your car (like what specific variant of your engine you have, and the options don’t match what comes up on the VIN lookup). Error codes are cryptic and you have to pay for yet another subscription to get more useful information. It just feels like I’m being scammed constantly.

Not worth it anymore. Never reviewed an app in AppStore, but highly frustrated with Carly, so here goes… Used to pay 70$ per year for subscription. Now they are asking around 170$! App suppose to send the report to email, never received it! Submitted my complaint to the customer support, did not get an answer! Stay away from it, not worth it anymore. Just buy a regular scanner for the same price as subscription.

Very slow support - poor customer service experience. No issues with the app but getting someone to reply back to you when you do need assistance because a code will not work and then follow up with a solution is mediocre.

They deleted my account for no reason when I say that they didn't give me an explanation they literally took my money and I barely was able to use the app for even 3 months and they took 200+ dollars and I waited weeks for the product if you see this I highly recommend not buying this because you will I repeat you will get scam of 200+ dollars listen to me

Good idea needs improvement. Connect to my BMW, lists a bunch of minor issues that happens some time ago. Dongle is expensive, annual cost is not worth it. The only good part is the ease of use. For the price thought there would be real benefit. Will not renew.

Amazing product spoiled by poor business tactics. They discontinued the old PRO version that I paid $72 for, and now want me to pay $72 to upgrade the new version. It’s just like how they updated the app once they had their Gen 2 adapter so that their Gen 1 adapter would no longer work, even though it worked just fine before the update. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good product, capable, but the way they have handled updates shows they are only interested in milking customers over and over and over. I have a third party adapter $15 versus their $50+ adapter and it works fine for pretty much everything. I wish I could recommend this but I can’t. I just don’t like how they go about things. Honestly I don’t trust their updates because I don’t know if they’re going to intentionally cripple my app. If you don’t have anyone near you that can code your car, and you’re happy to shell out $150 for the program and adapter then it’s probably worth it. I’m just frustrated by their lack of customer support.

Crap since app update yesterday - august 9, 2023. Since app update, maybe works 1 out of 20 times - error message all the time saying it can’t find smart mechanic. Used to always work now it’s just crap. Also had a lifetime subscription bought years ago and then they switched to annual a few months ago which I now regret paying yet again for.

Spiraling up into useless for customers. The only reason for 2 stars instead of one is the app has retained its functionality of 3 years ago. Unfortunately it has become harder and harder to use as the complexity of the bling in the user interface has spiraled out of control. Each time the latest version rolls out the frustration factor goes up without any real improvement in function. I have given up on this company. What was a simple to use app with really useful functionality has become a complex mess with no improvement in useful function for the customer. The Carly BMW diagnostic app seems to be little more than a data gathering app now. I have have started using BimmerCode and BummerLink. Changing cost more money, but the simplicity is worth it.

Super helpful. I purchased a BMW and MINI license many years ago before they even changed the name to Carly. As they have developed the app more and more features have been added. Always the first thing I use when I have an issue.

Great support, personal quick response!. These guys are amazing! I asked a question, and received an answer that is easy to understand, and I don’t have to be a car mechanic to understand. The latest software update makes it easy to manage all your cars, and see what is available! You must remember that some functions are not available, due to the VEHICLE, not the Carly software. Well worth the price. Buy the hardware, and the software, and you will be amazed! Thank you!

Best coding app.. The updates, customer service, make this coding app the best. Include the battery reset, the new digital garage to store your back ups, the service reminder reset that keeps you away from the dealership, and you have top notch, even if you have to buy a dedicated OBDII dongle from them.

Paid for it twice and still. Paid for the app twice because it wasn’t unlocking the features and still its asking me to unlock the features by paying again. Tried emailing the developer and got no reply. Subscription on apple says it still active until June but I been almos half a year with no refund, no help, and no app with a now useless reader because I can’t do anything without the app!

Great product with even better customer service !!. Hands down the best app in its category. Well worth the money and will save you a lot of money and trouble. Customer service has been great also. I had a problem with my adapter and Carly sent out a new one the next day. I will be a subscriber for life.

Fantastic Value and Support. I purchased the Carly for my vehicle and it has worked as advertised. A recent app improvement created some communications issues between the device and my iPhone. Technical Support was very helpful in resolving my issue. I can’t say enough about their product support!! Top Notch all the way!!

Money well spent. What a great app if you enjoy customizing the way your BMW operates or like to do some of your own wrenching. I have saved 10X the cost of this app just by learning what is wrong with my X5 and fixing myself vs taking to a dealer. I wish such an app was available for every car I owned Great job Carly!!!

New version of App is Terrible. The old version of the app did everything I wanted. You could easily read and reset codes from the car. Connect with non carly obd2 adapters. Use the app without jumping through 1000 hoops or registering multiple times or have the app connected to the internet. Now you can’t do any of that. What a ripoff. I would actually pay to get my old version back that just worked.

Constant updates makes me know they care. Developers are constantly updating, adding and fixing issues which makes me know I’ve gotten my money’s worth. I’ve even emailed them before and I received a very fast response! Seriously worth every penny if you own a bmw listed on their app.

Perfect car programming app. The newer version of the Carly app has more settings for my F31 BMW wagon than I ever imaged. Also the support is amazing. I had an issue upgrading from an older version and Robert Prosciak from their support team emailed me back in only 1 minute after I submitted my request for help! In 5 minutes my issue was resolved. That is amazing support.

Used to be so much better.. I bought a Carley adapter version two years ago and all the features worked fine. Now they want me to buy a version 3 adapter (with no information about how it’s better) and update after update they take away features and make you pay a subscription to what used to be included for the up-front charge. Sorry but I won’t be buying your gen3 adapter.

Really Works. Carly is really simple to use and works as described! I use it on all 3 of my vehicles with ease and it’s pretty much self explanatory! I would recommend this product! I unlocked hidden features I didn’t know I had on my BMW! So I’m satisfied!!

Bought years ago. I bought my Carly system a couple years ago and unfortunately I coded my M3 and M5 but had to buy the app over again. It says I don’t have the full version but I have bought the full version 2 times now. This is very frustrating and I’m starting to regret buying this product in the first place. Getting a response to write to Carly review to fix that I have to pay for the app again? Where do I go online to the website?

Had a great experience with customer service my 2nd Gen WiFi Adaptor stop work I sent support a message during Thanksgiving weekend and to my surprise they responded with in 2hrs after some troubleshooting they decide to replace my adapter at no cost very happy can continue my projects now with my bmw , Toyota and Lexus vehicle’s

Smog check does not work. I have had this device for a few years. I use it mainly to check Smog readiness for my BMW. There have been bugs in the past that took time for this feature to be fixed and be accurate. Recently, I pulled it out to use this for the same reason and once gain, the smog readiness for my vehicle is no longer working (2011 BMW 335d E90). Support has acknowledged that it does not work, and still have not fixed it after 2 months +

DO NOT GET. I got it because of the customization feature but it does not work. I have a 2011 Lexus IS250 and it takes 30+ mins to do a health check. I’m currently trying to get a refund but according to other past users they have been going through issues with the method they used to purchase. Just as I thought, they are denying me a refund even though it has I filed the claim on the same day of delivery. Now I am just left with a useless piece of plastic.

Be ware. This is my second Carly bmw was first and now a Lexus. I have ordered the full version only to find out I can’t make the changes like I wished like open close all the windows and sunroof with the remote it’s not even an option. I looked to see what I could change before ordering and couldn’t see anything so based on what I did with the BMW I purchased for Lexus, anything I want to change I have to have the dealership revise the optioned I wish Carly had a list of things

Cost vs. usefulness not worth it. $64 per year to get a report that the app clams as free. The $64 per year gets you one “free” report sent to your email, I never got the report and Carley customer care was non-responsive and never resolved the problem. I used the app and reader once in 5 years and could not get the report for the car. $64 x 5 > $300 for absolutely nothing. I have deleted the app and canceled future payments. To top it all off, Carley would not refund the $64 app payment just paid to cover the next 12 months. Very frustrated with this company.

Does not have all functionality they are claiming. Purchased a years subscription and was disappointed very quickly. Functionality was not as advertised. Now I have them taking money on “auto renewal” and I have been unable to cancel through them because they keep sending me in a loop. Really wish their customer service was better. I also wish I never downloaded this app. Terrible people behind this.

No Support. I can’t order a single via this app. I’ve tried a dozen times. It shows the cost in Euros and the order button will not work. I tried to order it via their website and it wants to charge me yet again for the Mercedes-Benz data I already paid for. Reaching out to their non-existent support is fruitless. No response forthcoming. So now I have a totally yet very expensive app on my iPhone.

Support. The support team has been excellent. I was having connection issues and was sent another reader. Problem solved. No connection issues. Features are easily accessed, coding is easy. I highly recommend the reader and the app. are excellent and the support is super.

Gready make no good. Dear customers don’t buy this app they start to be gready is no worry for how much they try to charge you Plus I hope they will not force me to buy the update that I already bought the professional version one time and now to upgrade and pay a year fee of 59$

Don’t use if you don’t regularly fix cars. I am not a mechanic. I thought this device would help. But there is no available customer service to help you. So you better know what you’re doing or don’t waste your money. I spent $173 to turn off my seatbelt tone. Now it no longer will connect and Carly CS emails me once a week with some questions that make no sense. Avoid. There must me something better and easier to use.

Love the app but. I love this app but I had the original I bought all the add-ons and then turned around and had to buy this one I don’t think the subscriptions to last just a year there was no subscription on the other app is kind of greedy

Carly app. I needed to update my account as my email needed to be updated which links to my purchases and Tushar was very detailed and helped me get my account link to my 2 adapters. Great service!

Carly. I think that Carly should have a section that works on other cars too and not just bmw. For the money we pay, we should be enjoying this app with other makes as well and not only bmw. Overall, great and easy to use, Carly did mess up my Ecu and frm and I had to reflash it at dealer but whatever.

Accuracy. It is a good device, when it works, but mot a basic complete device and app. Unfortunately it doesn’t work at all times when I first plug in. It requires some improvements to get rid of some type of glitch. It is too expensive for what it offers.

Worth the money just to change a few things. Fixed a few issues on my X3 E83 04 Headlight voltage turned off now my LED lights work no error signals Lock and close all windows and sunroof by holding down lock button. Awesome! Real-time engine diagnostics. Worth it.

Excellent support. Initially ran into a mysterious coding issue but all it took is one email to the support team and was resolved in minutes. Special shout-out to Robert from the Carly Expert team for a prompt and confident response. Connection was flawless and the app was simple and easy to navigate. I have zero experience in coding and this app makes it really easy.

Great product. I first started using Carly with the Gen2 adapter for BMW and immediately love all of the coding features. I then upgraded to the Universal adapter and it's even easier to use on most of the vehicles I work on. Highly recommend it.

Support is non existent. Paid 60$ for the app.. which is charged yearly.. bought an adapter for 100$.. paid for all of this on May 16.. May 19th my purchase disappeared.. I have been talking to Anita and Julian from their support for a week now.. and they keep asking me to send them the same info over and over again.. and I do.. but they don’t help.. stay away just buy the BIMMERCODE application, it’s a one time payment and the adapter costs a fraction of the price

It’s more than $80 for the adapter. I paid $80 for my adapter a while back, and it worked as advertised. Got CEL codes off my dads car, my car, and a couple others. Fast forward to today and I try to scan a friends car, now it says I get one free scan and I have to pay $60 a year for diagnostics. So now my total jumps up to $140. Yes, it’s only $5 a month but I use it so infrequently that it’s not worth that to me. I’m better off buying a slightly more expensive scanner like BlueDriver or GoPoint BT1 and only have to pay the price once

I was robbed. I love the app but feel I was deceived in have to again purchase a subscription when I originally bought the app and thought I would be eligible for free updates from then on. This is the first time I have ever had this to occur with any application I purchased through the App Store. I have another Bluetooth scanner app and adapter that I would highly recommend to anyone to avoid this same fate.

Complete garbage now.. Hate to say it but this app has kicked the bucket in my eyes. Can’t pull any codes straight to my phone and can’t even use the stupid thing without an account? Seriously why do I need an account to pull data. It was fine the way it was. I paid over $100 dollars a back in the good days and now I basically have a $75 dollar paper weight...... That’s all just go back to the old app this new one is completely useless now.....

Carly for Porsche. Recently bought the dongle and the Porsche program for my cayenne and Panamera. Worked great on Panamera but wouldn't connect to my 2010 cayenne. Customer service was great and they offered me beta version to try out and it does connect but were working through other issues. I’m confident we will overcome the issues and succeed.

Customer Support. Love the app which is just enough to make the changes I desired without getting in too deep. And, your customer service was top notch in solving my recent issue. Thanks for all the help. Chris

Epic Waste. I shelled out nearly $200 on the old version of this app to unlock all the modules and buy their overpriced adapter. Not even a few months later, the company at Carly sent out a blast for the privilege of getting a “free” upgrade to the new version. New version requires a yearly subscription to unlock all the modules and I can’t even use the old version of the app which I’ve already invested so much into. Company is greedy above words and beyond shady, can't even get the money I invested in the old app back. Go kick rocks!

Full version. Great app, bought the obdII connector and Full Version App when there was no yearly subscription fee for the App. Kind of disappointing that for those that bought the full Service App to all of a sudden have to start paying a subscription fee is kind of cheesy! Those individuals that purchased the app when there was no subscription fee should be grandfathered in as a lifetime membership with no fees!

Underhanded company. If I could give ZERO stars, Purchased Carly for BMW, the device and app did not provide support for fuel system purge after filter change. Never used again. After one year I was ‘PayPal auto charged’ for software ‘subscription’, a so called auto annual renewal. Seems there is some small print buried in the ordering process that the Carly company uses to defend the charge and they refuse to reverse the charges. Underhanded at best. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CROOKS. If you do buy, make sure you CANCEL automatic renewal of software subscription. BEWARE!!!!

BMW X5. Been using it for last three years been very handy for my use. When the adapter stopped working they addressed the issue and sent a replacement quickly

BROKEN AS OF MAY 30, ‘22. As of the last update I have been logged out of my account, I have lost my full BMW access. Also, when trying to connect to the BMWs and any different vehicle, (in this case a Chevrolet Suburban) it gets stuck loading at the vehicle selection screen when trying to connect to the adapter. App is completely unusable and this is a HUGE problem

Not worth the subscription. I’ve been using this basic diagnostic app for couple of years, now with the new update it’s paid subscription, which is deceptive and fraud because when I bought it was free Instead of paying monthly money for just generic codes, It’s better to spend money on a proper OBD2 diagnostic tool. Moreover, many times the app doesn’t connect to wifi Carly adapter.

Original supporters are burned. Bought the original Carly app, and gen 2 wifi adapter, and Dpf function. Now nothing works anymore. The original app doesn’t function and keeps asking to upgrade to this new version. Now this new version wants me to buy a new adapter and subscription model. What a bunch of greedy bunch of folks. I get the new pricing model, but us grandfathered folks shouldn’t be shoved to the side like this. I will not be supporting this company or product anymore.

Just keeps getting better.. Yes, there is a subscription and yes, you must use the Carly obd device... and yes, Carly supports all makes and models, and yes it’s easy to use and even allows for some neat customizable stuff... and, yes, they’ve even got good customer service too. They really seem to want you to be happy with your purchase. I am. 2nd year owner.

Perfect for new owners. I just purchased my first BMW and it was recommended to me to purchase the adapter and full app. I have not been disappointed. I was able to reset several items and program other unique things I wanted. Would highly recommend.

UX is a total mess. Half the app is a series of tiles that are upgrade paths to additional functionality, but they are confusing and always in the way. I don’t need to see examples of features on cars that I don’t own, especially if I’ve already paid to unlock those features on the cars I do own. Please consider an option to collapse the tiles or swipe them out of the way.

Scan my bimmer. Worth the $ if only to clear check engine light. Cool coding. And customer service gets right back to any issues. Bernard took time to email steps to fix problems. Great product.
