The first & the best. I love Skype but I'd love it more if I could still run it in my old devices without any problem. We speek a lot about sustentability, but at the same time we are not being supportive about the useless of "new updatings", trying to convince people that they have to change their loyal devices for newers, even being not necessary at all. That't my case, and I WONT DISCARD MY OLD IPODS OR IPADS just beacause they wan5to sell me more and newer ones. ALL I NEED AND WANT IS THE RIGHT VERSION OF SKYPE FOR MY OLDER DEVICES, NO MATTER EMOJIS OR STUFF LIKE THAT, BUT COMMUNICATION. HOPE FROM THE HEART , THAt SOMEBODY WILL PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!!! And we will proudly collaborating to the useless consume and proportional trash that is contaminating our HOME EARTH.

Yippee for the update. I am happy with the Skype update. I didn’t think I needed it, but it turns out it works a lot better on my iPad than the previous version. I had frequent issues dialing numbers before— Frequently the tones weren’t recognized. When that occurred the call wouldn’t go through. Whatever the update did seems to have helped that issue. I turned in many, many notices that the dial pad wouldn’t work. Something fixed it. I assume it was the update. I don’t care that much about the “looks” of it since it functions better for me.

Notifications. It would be great if a person could choose: 1) if you want to receive a notification, including sounds, while the app is open and in a conversation or not... I have read old reviews where people didn’t like getting notified while they were in a conversation, so I guess the option was removed... But, I would like to have the choice to have the notification while in a conversation. Also, 2) the volume of the notification - I only get a notification of a new message if I’m out of the app, but the sound is really low. Would be nice if I could decide how loud I want the sound to be.

Perfect for Expats. The subscriptions are a game changer for living in another country. Talking to friends and family is easy with Facebook or WhatsApp, but calling businesses is still not possible with social media and this solves that. The Skype number also makes it possible to get security texts when I log in to Things or need to fill out a form that will only take an American number. All these little things you don’t think about when you move to another country but they can make life online very difficult without Skype.

Yes! Skype is working on iPad 9 again!. Finally! My one year old iPad has been unable to work with Skype since July but this last update fixed whatever was causing it to freeze every time I downsized the keyboard, scrolled up or down, uploaded anything, searched for an emoji, switched chats, opened the app from a notification, etc. It was so frustrating not being able to use my favorite chat app for so long! Skype has the longest text limit that I know of (a must for a writer like me), and it lets me copy and select multiple texts at once, and send reaction gifs and birthday cards to friends. I’ve really missed it. All the others I tried were not the same. Thank you, Apple and Microsoft team for finally making it possible for this long time consumer to enjoy the app again!! (For clarification, it worked fine on my phone this whole time, but I prefer using the app on my iPad at home, and I don’t have a computer. I’m happy being able to use a full sized screen keyboard again, without having to force close the app.)

Good App overall, just some suggestions.. hi, I’ve been using this app for a very long time and I am overall impressed with what it has to offer. Although I do have some ideas. First, I would suggest there is a feature that shows someone is on their device, not on Skype but on their device. that’s optional, but feel free to add it in if you want. I would also like to say that there is a bug for one of my pals that says they are online all the time. every time I log in, it shows they are active. it makes it really hard to see when they were last online, if you could fix that it would be much appreciated. Lastly for now, I really suggest that the feature where you look up someone’s name gets removed. It happened with me and my pals where random people started texting us. In case you didn’t know, there are minors on your app. it could take the minors to adults and could lead to predatory behavior. it’s not just that as well. can you at least make it more accessible to disable? it was kinda hard for me to find how to turn it off. I will edit if I find anything else.

Skype on my iPad Mini 2 with blazing fast WiFi. A few hours ago I downloaded Skype on an iPad Mini 2 that I inherited 10 days ago from my brother. I’ve been using Skype on my Windows 7 PC. I did a Skype video chat with my brother on the iPad Mini, and it was perfect. We are over 1,000 miles apart and it was like being in the same room ... even though I walked out on my deck & back in, & he put his smartphone in his pocket while he went out to his car and then drove 15 minutes to get home. On his way indoors his phone went into his briefcase. The Skype connection was seamless & the quality was excellent. I should mention that my original plan had been to connect the iPad Mini to WiFi by setting up a hotspot on my Windows 7 PC & sharing. The iPad couldn’t find the network, and my cable company said I needed a router, so I got a new NETGEAR AC1900 (model C7000v2) dual band WiFi router modem combo at Walmart 4 days ago. It has a 5GHz processor delivering speeds of up to 1.9 Gbps. It also has 24x8 channel bonding (24 download & 8 upload channels for extreme speed & consistent connectivity). With this equipment, Skype is a dream. Of course, I’ve only used Skype for half an hour on the iPad Mini, & I haven’t added contacts yet (I’m old school & probably won’t), so if I start having problems, I’ll come back & edit my opinion. :)

Lots of issues. I have many reasons for this 1 star review 1. I do online art class on Skype and when I’m using a guest account it kicks me out every 10-20 minutes even though the guest account says it lasts 24 hours 2. I did make an account to stop that and I used it for 1 day then it kicked me out and won’t allow me to sign back in 3. The quality is bad — sometimes the audio will glitch out or my the screen will go black (my art teacher shares her screen) there have been times when it even muted her randomly. She also got kicked out a few times 4. I downloaded Skype on my iPad but recently whenever I click a Skype link it brings me to safari with 2 options: “Download Skype” and “Launch it now”. Since I already have the app I click “Launch it now” but nothing happens. If I click “Download Skype” it takes me to the App Store to download it; but of course I already have the app so there’s nothing to download! There have definitely been more issues that don’t come to mind as of now but over all, in my experience, Skype is low quality and has to many issues and technical difficulties :/

ipad pro bugs - saving pics?. Generally Skype is okay and works for me, but I just spent an hour trying and trying and trying to save or share a pic someone sent me…. Saved them each at least three times. Can’t find them anywhere. The “share” button on individual images just doesn’t work at all. Nothing comes up when you choose it. So photos sent to me just sit there in the chat, useless. Why is such an obvious thing overlooked? When I press and hold on the image, there are no options that DO ANYTHING useful. “Save” may or may not save, but God know where to, on my ipad pro. There is no “Share” option on that menu. The rest are useless. So…. HOW????

Watching my grandbabies grow!. If it weren’t for Skype, I would not be able to see my grandchildren more than once a year. If only Skype could figure a way to allow physical hugging it would be wonderful. But… The ability to see them once a week and send love through the airwaves, visibly, is one of the greatest things that could possibly be for a grandmother. The sound quality and picture quality are fantastic and very seldom is the time we find ourselves dealing with a hitch in the mechanism. Thank you, Skype!

Great Chat With Grandkids. I love that Skype is the app that connects me with my family when I am a thousand miles away. Through the phone, tablet, laptop or desktop I can see and interact with the people I love. My four-year-old granddaughter just learned a tune on the harmonica, and because of Skype I was one of the first to hear it. I have problems with Skype when I want to switch to another app, and go back. I like some of the new features, including the ability to send hearts and other emojis. With mobile devices, especially when moving, the signal strength can disrupt or end calls. But all in all Skype is a great way to connect with great people.

Skype for iPad is flaky…. I have been using Skype for several years- ever since it was published and long before it was acquired by Microsoft. It was my favorite tool for communicating with family and friends around the world. More recently I’ve been having all sorts of problems with Skype for iPad. The problem started a few months ago when suddenly I was unable to log into my account whenever i tried I get a window asking me to provide Microsoft permission to view my conversation and other use of Skype. I deleted the app and stopped using it after talking to Microsoft representative who told me the problem should be resolved in a couple of days. Now it seem every time I try to type something there is a pause or delay after every letter or word I type. Sometimes I start getting clicking sounds like a typewriter when I write my text with delay after each key stroke. Not sure if this is a problem with Skype or there is something going on with the iPad. I don’t have similar problems with other apps on the iPad which leads me to think that it’s a Microsoft/Skype issue. I also think Skype needs to modernize and incorporate some of the functionality available in Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Thanks

GPCC. I have to agree with “Still a work in Progress”. I do like the enhancements as I use Skype on a daily basis when I am out the of the US or home as well. I would prefer the App to be a little more navigable. For those of us who are not super tech savvy ( Me🙋🏼‍♀️) it would be nice to actually chat with a “ real” person to help identify a problem issue-whatever that may be. It’s incredibly time consuming to have to ask the community when your issue may be critical, especially for those of us who work internationally. Finally; I LOVE Skype and that you are always striving to make things better for your customers! Keep it up guys & girls! Don’t know what I would do without ya!😎

Just a few problems, otherwise great!. I honestly love this app! I just have a few complaints. First, sometimes when my friends and I are on a call afterwards the whole group chat will disappear without a trace. I’d appreciate if that was somehow fixed because I’ve had to re-crest the same chat about four to five times now. Second, I’ve been having trouble with sharing my audio. I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong but it’s kind of annoying when I’m trying to show my friends something with audio and I can’t because I can’t seem to find a way to share it. Other than those little patches, I love this app! Please download it, it’s easy to use and very convenient for calling friends in this troublesome time. Stay safe and wash your hands! :)

Skype is Improving ... Still a Work in Progress. Overall — I am very pleased with Skype. I’ve used it now on a regular basis (making 5-10 international calls) for the past few years. There are constant updates — so what I write might change (for better or worse .... ) at any time after this Review (which I’m writing on October 29, 2018) — depending on whether an Update improves or complicates matters. Usually updates improve — but not always. Most of the time, the technical aspects of my connection are pretty good — but sometimes they are so poor, that I have to leave Skype and go to another application. I WISH there was a way for me to identify WHERE the problem is at such times (ie, with my connection; with the connection of the person I am speaking to — or with Skype). But overall, connections are BETTER than they were a few years ago. Overall, the system of organizing contacts is fairly efficient — but sometimes a bit challenging on non-computer devices to identify and classify contacts into an easy-to-find grouping. THANKS for continuing to work to improve this app! — :)

Not very good because of cyber bullying. This app has a cyber bully named of Joey he called me names sending me rude and hateful messages. and be very careful with who u guys talk to there’s a lot of cyber bully’s on this app. He said I was rude I’m not rude I’m actually a nice guy. He made me tear up I reported and blocked him. Now this guys dad got on the call and said I was a stupid B I’m not stupid I’m Acing school. His dad is a cyber bully too I’m not talking to this person anymore . His dad is mean and he said I was old and dumb I’m not I’m young and smart maybe he is I did nothing to deserve this hate on this app this Joey guy and his dad need to leave me alone there mean and cyberbullys Joey called me a fata** when I was eating pizza on February 10,2021 I’m not that I’m really skinny and healthy that reallly hurt my feelings when he said that to me. Ps. If u get a message from a guy named Joey don’t respond just block him because Joey is a rude bully.

Happy Dance!. I really love this app! It has good quality sound, video, connection; basically whatever your device is capable of producing in terms of quality: this app can keep up! It’s a keeper, for sure. I use it to talk to my sister out of state all the time and I really enjoy the ease of use and intuitive setup. Even a troglodyte like me an figure it out? - it must be pretty good! Must have app 100% if you want to see someone’s face SAFELY during this COVID-19 lockdown and talk to them as close to “in person” as you can get without violating your state’s stay at home orders. Win - Win! ;)

Newest version (8.27 & up) on iPad. As others have said, truly the worst update of any app I have ever seen. It took an acceptable app and made it almost impossible to modify data even if wrong. Has a help button that is very hard to find, must less a smart help. How do you add a second number to a contact? The entire man-machine interface is a farce, with no intuitiveness, or useful menus. I hate to say it, but as someone who used to design hardware and software, I would fire the entire group of people who are responsible for the man-machine interface on this latest version, and start over. Or at least go back to previous man-machine interface. I guess is that if you only add up reviews since the latest version, more than 70% rate the version as bad to worse - due mainly to a terrible GUI.

Able to see my parents!. I love Skype! Thanks to Skype, I’m able to talk several times a week to my parents in Florida. They are 85 & 87, and I had to cancel a trip in June to see them due to Covid-19 fears. The fact that I can sit in my office in Washington State and see my folks, know they’re doing well, means more than I can say. I always have great video and audio on my end, and I’ve been using Skype for years (for teaching, office hours). It’s one of my favorite apps. But I never bothered with a review till now, when this personal dimension made Skype a lifeline for my family. Thanks to the Skype team!

OK for Casual Users. Got my account many years ago back when everything was on desktop PC and people on both ends of the call had to be pretty high tech wizards just to make (and keep) consistent connection. Over the years, I would use FaceTime or Webex or various other means to do most video calls, so Skype sat idle most of the time. A few months back, I ended up sending my phone through the washing machine, so as a temporary workaround I loaded Skype on my iPad so I could at least make outgoing calls without my cell phone. To my surprise, it actually is fairly capable in that mode. TBH, I would welcome a simplified interface like an old school flip phone for times when you just want a quick voice call and not a multiparty videoconferencing extravaganza. Anyway, for my particular needs (making my iPad into a big heavy sorta iPhone every now and then), it does that fine.

Admin Controls, PLEASE!!!. Update: My junior high students have discovered the joy of muting and hanging up their classmates on group calls. It would be extremely helpful to remove this option except for the Admin (in this case the teacher). Or at the very least, instead of saying “Someone has muted your microphone,” give the name of the culprit. I was forced to move the lesson to Messenger, which doesn’t work as well, but doesn’t have this flaw. Help a teacher out, please! This app has made it possible to keep teaching during quarantine. It has saved my job and made it possible for the students to keep having lessons. Thank you!

Such great Quality. I have to say that Skype is one of the best app to call and to text. It is so nice to be texting and call people on the same app. It’s so annoying to always needing to go to one app to another. I also like the emojis and moving pictures you can send to your friends and family. The only thing I think Skype needs to work on is to make sure when you flip the camera around whole screen doesn’t go black and doesn’t show anything because then you’ll have to restart the call and see if it works again it can be really annoying. But that really isn’t a big deal just change it please🙏. This app rarely malfunctions dad which is a great thing. I totally recommend this app for people who want to make it easy to call people around the world. The one thing I think they could add to this app is that you could me have fun patterns on your face and do activities during your call. Overall I have to say this is the best app effort to call or Skype and text especially for your kids.

A horrible company (Microsoft). Had to use Skype for a scheduled business call. Started Skype and was blocked by a mandatory, not circumventable “get it now” upgrade screen. If I wanted to make the important call I had to immediately upgrade. Upgraded, and now stuck with garbage software that I didn't want or need. It's pretty bad. I’m now looking for an alternative to Skype. I’m old enough to remember Microsoft in the age of Windows 3.0 refusing to allow deletion of Internet Explorer, covertly installing a “Super Cookie” and other sleazy tricks. And more recently their tricky covert installs of Windows 10 even when you clicked the “don't install” X-button. I suppose they looked at what Facebook has been successfully doing and decided “hey, we can be bullies again”. My advice is: find an alternative to Skype and leave the Microsoft ecosystem behind. The software is bad and the company is worse.

I had Skype for many years. I had Skype for a long time, in the beginning there where some problems with the video quality and the stability of the connection. Now for the last year or so, I have hade no problems making or receiving calls. If there are problems they normally are with my system or the other party’s equipment. Picture quality and sound is great.I communicate with family in Germany every week and have not had any issues for a long time. I love Skype, it is the only way I’m able to see my family in Germany. (Thank you COVID-19)

Amazing! Review from MountaiMello. Sykpe is amazing in every way! My bestie moved to the UK, so I cant see her IRL at all, whilst skype allowed us to talk. Recently, my other bestie was moving schools, so I couldn’t really communicate. And she got skype, and now all 3 of us are a best friends group, and we have individual contact too. Which is good. Now I am a preparing animator, I dont have time to talk to them IRL anyways if they had stayed. With skype, both of my friends met, and it has led me to still having contact, my life and my friend’s life would not be the same without you creating this app. I thank you for this, creator of skype. Great app. Skype has grown in leaps and bounds since the start of COVID. I am really glad that it has. My mom and I have been using this platform for years to be able to see each other. It’s nice that the technology has been updated so much in the last year. It is sad that it took a pandemic to make the updates occur. I hope that the tech teams continue to update the technology and add creative and innovative ideas as things move along. This platform has been huge in the development of a loving relationship between myself and my mom. Thanks Skype for being there from the beginning with your technology.

Was perfect became absolutely nightmare. Skype became to difficult to use. Also without users permission all of my contacts showed up in Skype without the possibility of removing them again! I had Skype contacts since those were the people i used to call, with all my other contacts being there, it became completely impossible to even find your original Skype contacts. They also took the Skype app from the Samsung TV, which I used most. But most important is the absolute complete user unfriendly interface of the app. I have 2 university degrees and i am on average not stupid using computers, far from I would say. I speak 5 language, but up till the day of today I can’t figure out how the Skype app works. I used to skype with my mam, she’s older and not so handy with computers or phones, but I can’t explain her anymore how it works since there is absolutely not one action logically anymore in the whole app. So forced to quite skype, just because it literally became unusable. This is how I and everybody I know stopped using Skype. Wish it came back though in the old, easy to use format.... But that is wishfully thinking. Non of the developers ever seems to think about the user, who is the most important. I don’t think any of the developpers ever use an app themselves otherwise this wouldn’t have happened.

Skype is perfect for messaging!. This is incredible! I can have high quality video calls really easily and messaging works really well! One feature in Skype is Mojis and they are really funny! You can do text messages as well as voice messages and video messages! And don’t forget that you can do 4K video calls... The only downside is that 3/4 of the time screen-sharing doesn’t work, at least for me. If you are Ok with Skype using lots of memory, and you want high quality video calls, then Skype is for you! I absolutely recommend it!

Major issues. For the last month or so, there has been an issue with color transmitting between my friend and me. It’s fine on his end, but on my end, the color of his camera stream is completely messed up. The color channels are not being properly aligned on my end. What I see is greyscale, with some blue and red channel information offset in weird places (for example, you can see his arms in red moving at the top of the screen even though they’re at the bottom). This issue is intermittent, but very annoying. This only occurs with the camera; screen-sharing is fine. With this latest update, there’s a permanent dark grey rectangle across the top of the screen. Not sure if this is supposed to be a feature, but it looks stupid and just takes up a bunch of my limited screen space. My thumbnail doesn’t fit in the rectangle during video chats but does with screen-sharing, which makes me think this is a bugged feature.

Skype is amazing. Skype is amazing because it lets me text my friend and we can FaceTime each other and she can FaceTime her other phone while she calls me so all three of us can play Minecraft together and we could all see each other but we are make different worlds because sometimes we don’t want other people one of us to go in someone else’s world so we go onto one of a different world that we all go in but Skype is like really good like I love Skype the only reason I gave it four stars is because it won’t let me call my friend we could only FaceTime which I’m OK with but I wish I could call it won’t let me call because every time I hit it it will it will bring me up to something that won’t let me call I don’t know what to call it but it just won’t let me call so that’s why I gave it four stars And Skype is amazing because I got a couple weeks ago or a couple of days ago I don’t remember but it lets me call my friend when ever I want to play Minecraft with her only FaceTime we have to text if you want to but we usually FaceTime and then we play for like two hours maybe three or four we play for like a long long time one time with you and played for like most of the day until I am had to go to bed but that was before I got Skype Skype changed me Skype now I don’t have to use anyone’s phone to call EV which is perfect

Notifications are disappearing??. I’m not sure what it is. The notifications will come in on my home screen,but when I go into Skype itself,I don’t see any of the messages or missed call etc. showing up in the chat history. Sometimes I’ll even call someone and the call just won’t go through. The person on the other also says they’ve been trying to call,but no call ever came in on my end either. This has happened several times with multiple persons. Because of that,I’ve missed calls and messages that simply don’t even appear in my chat history. Not to mention,I’m on iOS but my friends devices are android,so it seems less of a platform issue and more like Skype just needs to fix something in the app right across the board. Other than that,the call quality is actually ok. Gets muffled whenever it claims the connection is poor,but I don’t complain about that. Completely missing/disappearing calls and messages is not one I can overlook though.

So angry about the new update. Yes, the update makes skype more like the one for phone. I do like the fact that I can change to dark theme. EVERYTHING ELSE I ABSOLUTELY HATE! Because of all the new changes, I think skype is now ugly. I don’t like that you have to wait to send a reply because if you don’t you’ll accidentally hit ‘send location’ after you have typed something. It’s soooooo laggy and buggy. Sometimes I’ll write something very long and meaningful to send to another person- and normally it’s important, and then skype will reload. It’s so annoying and I despise it with the power of a thousand suns. Not to mention the fact that it’s harder to delete contacts that I deleted a long time ago- but because of the update suddenly have again, my hidden conversations have come back up too! I’m just really annoyed. I wish they would make a new update that doesn’t have skype go backwards instead of forward. I really enjoy Skype but the new update has really upset me. But I’m only one person- disregard all of this if you like.

This version seems to work a bit better than the older version. I’m on a Mac (iOS and MacOS). Sometimes FaceTime works better, but all in all, Skype seems to work better in various environments. The hardware seems to make a big difference in performance. Older stuff does work as well as newer stuff. All in all I’m very happy with the apps performance and features. Updated 12/18: the app works well. It all seems to depend upon the bandwidth of the connection, which is probably reflected in the compression algorithms and the power of the computers on either end as well. I generally have no complaints. I’m also sure Microsoft is busily attempting to monetize the operation. It’s still a pretty cool service.

Great Voice Over IP!. My only complaint is not seeing photos from my Apple Address Book, it used show photos from Apple Address which made it nice and easy to find a contact, and I wish the Skype company would bring that feature back. Other than that it’s a great Voice Over IP Service, the software works with virtually ANY internet unlike Comcast’s phone software which requires an outrageous connection speed, the Skype software is very efficient. Skype’s paid service is very reasonable by comparison to ANY landline or cell service, I highly recommend their paid service for calling outside of their network.

How hard is it?. I only use the app for educational purposes. Because of this, I can immediately see that Skype isn’t built for education. The chat takes too long to load properly. The chat for some reason “teleports” while it loads so I either have to scroll repeatedly or I overshoot it. Files on the iPad immediately uninstall once I exit out of them (so if I have to switch from looking at the teacher’s whiteboard to looking at the file numerous times, it gets annoying). Most importantly, which is not specific for education, WHY does the app ask permission to use camera app but not actually use it? Apple cameras are pretty decent, so I don’t get why it isn’t being used correctly. It doesn’t even focus meaning the slightest shake/quiver of the hand will result in my text being dramatically blurred. I don’t want to go through the trouble of having to use the camera app separately, but I have to. I guess the app would be ok for personal use but we have built in apps for personal functions.

Skype is out of this world. For me I think that Skype is great it’s a simple way for me to connect to my cousins my aunts my mom stuff like that and it’s really simple because you can actually add groups it’s like what’s up with a little bit better you can see your screen and it works on computers which is very convenient if you have to do school it’s easy for you to share your screen you just have to click the top top buttons and then it’s gonna be really simple and if you like really like some thing there’s a heart emoji that you can use and you can split your screen and have one for chat and the other for Skype which I think is really great so I’m really like this app

Awsome App. I use this 24/7 and I never have problems.! Don’t listen to the haters of Skype because it is the BEST!! When I call people on my iPad on Skype it is so smooth! There is nearly any glitches every three weeks! You should get this app also because, if you communicate with someone when another’s have horrible internet it is not that bad because you can hear the voice but it takes only a SECOND to get back in program. So in conclusion, you should get this app and enjoy, it is the best you can get unlike, Duo, VideoChat, and FaceTime! ( Also TextMe is brilliant too look forward to free calls!)

Skype. I have paid for Skype for about 20 years. It was highly functional initially. Ever since Microsoft bought it it has been slow to load the app & open up, slow to display the key pad, slow to respond to the touch, slow to dial, slow to hang up even. By slow, I mean that I often wait 15 seconds for the app to open & it regularly takes me three attempts to dial a number correctly because of the delays in key pad response. Just switching from calls to texts can take touching the button half a dozen times before it responds! I could say more but I think you get the idea. It is barely functional the last few years. Also, I have my settings so that calls will forward to my cell phone if I don’t answer on my iPad within 20 seconds & even when I’m expecting a call & I push the button on the first ring it forwards the call anyway-very frustrating. Today I was expecting a call so a I went on my computer to stop the call forwarding and received a message telling me that services were not available. The call I was expecting came & I answered it on the first ring but it forwarded anyway so I had to call the person back (I had texted to notify her that this might happen before she called me so she was prepared for it but it takes time to set that up too). I know the delays I experience are not necessary because for years Skype was not like this so it disgusts me that it is like this now!

Good app, with some room for improvement. I like this app. It’s best features are versatility and very low restrictions. It may take a while to learn the platform, so friendliness is about 7 (in a 10 scale). I haven’t been able to share audio from mi iPad (like music or the audio of a video) while sharing my screen. The feature is apparently available for PC users, but either is not available on iPad/iOS or is hidden somehow that you can’t easily find it. This is important when you want people on a meeting to hear something being played right in your iPad, so it is definitely a wanted feature.

Couldn’t do without it.. My oldest daughter and her family are missionaries and have been overseas for the past 30+ years. As soon as Skype became available we got it and have been using it successfully ever since. I have been able to talk to and see my daughter and my grandchildren which is wonderful. I recently got stuck overseas due to COVID-19 and discovered that I could call people who don’t have Skype which has been great for taking care of business while I’m gone. I highly recommend it to all my friends who might be separated from loved ones.

It’s meh. So I’ve been using Skype for at least 5 or so years, and in those 5 years I’ve noticed some things that are good and bad about it. Let’s start out with the good. Good -Reliable: Overall this is a reliable app with texting and calling about 75-80% of the time. -Simplicity: Skype is really simple to use and pick up on. -Effective: When I am using Skype for calls with my friends, it generally is effective with video and audio. Bad -Lagging: about 20-25% of the time when I am on a call with video on, the call will lag, which can be annoying. -Not much change: over the past few years Skype has remained the same in its layout, which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it, but not much new things h e been added. -Semi-low security: now when I say this, I don’t mean it in the way of anyone can join your call. I say this in the way that anyone can look you up on the search and text you. This has happened to me once or twice and I usually ignore it, but it can be a security risk for more concerned people. So with all things considered, overall Skype is meh. I haven’t seen it change much and don’t see it making any huge changes any time soon. I will most likely continue using this app to keep in touch with friends that have no other way to keep in contact with me, but if something better comes along, I will probably move to that if it’s better and Skype doesn’t change.

Pretty good. Overall, skype is an amazing app, and it is completely free. I use this for calls, stuff, and other purposes. It is really nice and simple to use, and is reliable with good internet. I also like the feature to ‘quote’ your messages, which I think is really creative. There are also some downsides, such as how anyone can search you up, and contact you. You also need to pay to call from the person’s private number, and there is something called Skype Premium, which I have never got, but have heard about. Some additional stuff are: -animated emojis (these are sooo cool, and I love them!) - different sticker things - easy to upload files for sending Some bad things are: - as I mentioned before, someone can randomly search you up, - sometimes doesn’t pick up voice and audio - lags if you don’t have the best internet Skype is also available in mobile, PC, and iPad (at least with my experience) I would suggest it, and it is a well rounded app to use! Amazing, but huge problem.. I’ve been using Skype for years, and I love it. Just today I decided to call my cousins, but after about 3 seconds of being on the call, I got kicked off not only the call, but the app too. Then I went back on the app and called again but the same thing happened over and over again. Then I tried to update Skype. After the update it still did the same thing. For the 3 seconds that I was on the call for, my cousins said that they couldn’t hear me, and that I kept freezing. I re started my device and tried again. And still, it did not work. Then I tried calling with another device, and still, it did not work! This has never happened before in all the years I’ve been using this app. Thank you for reading this, and I still recommend using Skype, but is just like to get this fixed.

Counterintuitive and Clumsy. The good news, I suppose, is that it works. Calls are usually clear, with little to no interference. The bad news—as with all things Microsoft—is that the company seems determined to make user interfaces as clumsy, difficult to use, and frustrating as possible. Even something that should be fairly intuitive, such as adding automatic recharges to Skype credit, includes opaque instructions, some searching and concomitant frustration. Perhaps I’m frustrated as an Apple customer because Apple software and products are so painless to use and so intuitive. I would have thought, after decades as a leading software developer, Microsoft would have finally figured out how to make things easier for its customers.

It’s getting better. I think Skype is great it have improved so much over the years! I use it almost every week To talk to my friends! I only have one suggestion maybe for the group chats a couple people have specific permissions such as removing people. Sure it can be annoying if you don’t have that permission but it stops people from getting out of hand. And also when I’m calling someone from time to time the app crashes. And I go to open the app, it sighed me out! I log back in. But it crashes as soon as I log in! It stays like that for a couple hours maybe days! And it’s very annoying.

Good quality, dumb video format. While the audio and video quality are quite good, Skype continues to get silly with the video format. Since the latest update I can no longer zoom out the caller’s video. Previous this was possible, though it would randomly zoom the video back in. Microsoft most likely did this to remove the black bars in landscape mode, but let the user make that decision for themselves. The preview window continues to be reversed, yet another option a user could have. This has been suggested in the Skype forum for years by many people and continues to be ignored to this day. If you want to see the full video from your caller when they’re in landscape mode, you have to be in portrait mode. Slowly but surely, Skype is getting worse at video options.

I mostly recommend this app!. Ok so I got Skype just a few weeks ago and ever since I have been on it 24/7 it is just a amazing app, and you should really get it I love that I can call my friends and text them for free and I even can go to school on it 😂I really recommend this app for the people reading this also I just have a few more thing I want you to add a little place where we can go to our contacts and add the number if you already got that then sorry I didn’t know since I’m still new to this app keep up the great work!

Skype reviews about stuff. Skype has been a very good app and is kinda like FaceTime and other apps. It has been very good lately and kinda needs more work deep down inside. I don’t like the subtitles because it always when you say a word, sometimes, it just says random words. I wish the new update can auto-translate the language. I hope it does put a setting in the subtitles settings. Also, they should get rid of everyone being the host. People can mute other people, and they can kick other people! I just don’t like the fact that it does that. Maybe the new update will not make everyone the host. Anyways that’s all for today’s meeting. Adios amigos!

Never Had Problems Prior to the Update. This new update is terrible. I used to Skype on my phone until they updated the iPhone version to this confusing layout. Now I have no choice but to use another group calling app. First off, I’d like to say I’m giving this 2 stars solely because I never had major problems before the update. As soon as I opened the new updated Skype app on my iPad, all of my contacts were gone other than the favorited ones so I clicked “sync contacts” and it put all of my contacts from my iPad on my Skype. Also, all of my recent messages were gone. The last one was from March (yes I have used Skype plenty of times since). I don’t know how to work this new app layout, I don’t know how to access the chat (it’s not as easy as it was where you could swipe once and it’d be there), and I don’t know how to get my messages back. The least you could do is explain why you did this to us, how to use it, and give an option to go back to the old version!

Feels outdated - and no more life support. Everybody used it in the early 2000s when it was an innovative calling and conferencing tool. I still use it now and then to communicate with the few people who don’t have smart phones with access to better, newer apps. It still kinda works, but it feels like Pac-Man in a Fortnite world.. We tried but did not succeed reaching any kind of life support, the ‘app support’ link now only connects to a web bot with a few basic canned answers, and a link to a user forum instead, which is pretty much deserted by now. Skype doesn’t offer many UI customization options, and many setups have to be repeated on every client and every platform. If you use skype e.g. on a PC and iPhone and iPad. User logon to the app requires a vaguely worded permission to access the users information and website movements, following the data privacy link did not explain, if or to what degree skype communication will be used for advertising, marketing or to be sold for a analytics.

It’s awesome 😎. It’s helped me connect with my friends between lessons during remote learning. It has heaps of unique emotions and gifs. And you can ring anyone with a press of a button (plus getting them in contacts). Overall it’s a great app and I recommend it for others

No problems. For several years I have been Skyping my daughter who travels all over the world for her job. We’ve just spoken for about half an hour between Florida and Queensland and it was perfect. Of course we have occasional issues with different countries but it’s pretty reliable most times. Thank you Skype for providing this lifelin.

Great app but….. I really love this app and I think it’s perfect for chatting and calling friends! But maybe you could add more abilities when you FaceTime people… like more emojis that fill up the screen or with the camera system add more and pretty filters. An excellent app.. Skype is easy to setup and use. I use Skype on a Mac desktop and iPad. I only use it to maintain contact with friends and relatives overseas. So my experience is limited to maybe half a dozen people at a time but only rarely. Mostly one on one. The only problems I have encountered are nothing to do with Skype eg wifi or internet failures. The audio and video quality is magnificent. I use it to connect to many countries and have no issues at all. Thank you to the provider.

Skype. Loving this app. I’m loving this app, I don’t have social media nor do I wish too and to have this available is great to talk to family in real-time. Cannot fault it, especially during COVID this has become my best friend keeping in touch with family in Melbourne. It’s better than a phone call, to see your family is just a great feature. Thanks guys for helping us get through these tough times that we face. To people who haven’t signed up you’ve got to try it, it’s just amazing to have your loved ones right there with you. I’ve had no issues with internet or freezing it’s been great.

Ring tone. Have been using Skype from day 1 - now on many platforms my 80 year old parents use it which is great to catch up- business contacts use it and when I’m overseas I can use it to call anyone with credits via hotel WIfi or on a data plan. Love the dark mode - would really appreciate to custom the ringtone 3 Skype users in my household can cause a mad rush when incoming calls -

You can talk it works and you can even test to see if your sound is working its super fun there is a together mode so you and your friend can go on a adventure ! Although it sometimes put you on hold cant hear or not even let you share this happens all the time with me and my friends when my friend shares his screen it just disconnect’s us but skype is great I recommend

The Windows Vista of Skype updates. Why take an excellent app and ruin it? Many key functions (eg who is online or not) are gone, the new interface is not intuitive and significantly worse than what you had before. Some key functions - video calling - no longer work. Lucky I have FaceTime for family on iOS but this is a pain for friends zusing PCs. You say you are listening to you customers when clearly you are not. What a shame. A constructive suggestion - please allow an option to undo the update and revert to the previous version that actually worked?

Great communication tool. It is very easy to talk to people all over the world for FREE with Skype. I all the features, like screen sharing, face cam and chat. My only recommendation is a setting to disable ALL notifications completely. They pop up without warning and are very loud. I have disabled all app notifications and notifications in settings and they still pop up. Do not disturb does not work either. PLEASE FIX THIS

Reliable app for over a decade. I’ve used Skype for as long as I can remember.... on PC, on Mac, on iphone and now on ipad. It’s my only real go-to to chat with my friends in Germany. It always works - as long as we have a half-decent connection. The updates are always welcome as developers devote their time to keeping our lifeline on par with current technology. Skype. I have been using skype for the past 20 yrs. I first started when our grandsons were young and we could see each other so they talked normally and enjoyed showing us what they were doing. At that time, the app was only updated about once a year but now, it seems to be almost weekly. I am of the older generation and get confused when you keep changing the site. Please leave it alone unless it needs to be changed for security reasons. I use both systems, iPad and my PC and find them so different which adds to my confusion.

Adding non Skype contacts to caller list impossible similarly deleting. Hopeless,Now I cannot download new version 8 each time I try I,m just taken back to my ord phone book. I,m told open in App Store I click and back to phone page to contacts. So sad,it was a wonderful system before Microsoft started to mess it all up.

One thing. I love using Skype to connect with my friends but one this that annoys me is that on Ipad I can’t change my background and my friends are all on computer and they have awesome backgrounds and then there is me who can’t change my background. So if there could be a way to fix that it would be great.

Amazing app! But. I love this app, I get to talk to all of my friends through this tough times but.. I was calling this one friend I don’t call much ever and after 5 minutes the call failed so In the online chat (we were playing video games) she said “Eve what happend!?” I said “.. the call must of failed I’ll call you back” so I did but I couldn’t hear her she could hear me though so I decided to end the call and do it again like again I couldn’t hear my precious friend Maya so I got out of the app refreshed everything then I tried.. still it was silent so i restarted my iPad and then called her still no answer.. Its being half a year . More app rubbish.. Have not used Skype again until recently, thought to update app before use. Worked the first time, then shut it down again to avoid junk calls. Attempted to fire up the next day, guess what ~ NOTHING! ….. only the Skype logo at screen top, with 3 tiny dots that only addressed page layout!!. Can we please have an app that works and stop upgrading the app except for absolute critical revisions. I suspect the coders are bored or are trying to look busy, just resist the temptation to fiddle with the app, I just want it to work‼️

Why does screen sharing fail all the time?. This app used to be fine, but now every time I do a video call on my iPad, the other person who is sharing from a computer has to push the screen sharing button 10 to 20 times before it works, with no obvious reason why not, just a grey cross and a black screen. Sometimes her video keeps showing, and sometimes it disappears, when the screen sharing finally and randomly starts working. Impossible to work with, and the other person in my household has the same issue from his iPad. Can you please fix this?

Amazing app. It’s really good for texting other people when I feel I need to talk to someone. My favourite thing about Skype is that the emojis are the best! It’s really cool how they move. But… it will be good if u guys somehow stopped the memojis having a white background.🙂 and it will be cool if you added filters for a selfie, like Snapchat, that will be great. The WORST!. Skype is the worst! I don’t use Skype anymore. So I signed in. Took me a while to find the “Close your Account” typed in my Skype Name, password and then “Verify your identity” I would love to verify but the email which is still on file, is an old one no longer in use. So I tried to change the email in my Skype account. Took me ages to get the codes to my new email. After I verified the new email, I tried it again.. And WOW, the old Email is still there. Still on file. I can see the new email but obviously Skype takes ages to sync to Microsoft ?! This is horrible and unacceptable!! I want to close my account!! NEVER AGAIN Skype/Microsoft!!! 😡🤬

Fab app. Love Skype and can phone brother and sister in law in Canada regularly. It’s clear and I rarely have any issues. Love the subscriptions to specified countries, much more economical now. Highly recommend - especially if your family overseas don’t own mobile phones. I use it primarily on my iPad.

Has it’s problems. I’ve been using Skype for a while and have noticed problems - the main one is that GIFs just don’t work half of the time. It will just give a little error screen in place of the GIF. More recently, I received a notification that this Skype app will no longer be supported, and that I should ‘download a new, unified Skype app for your iPad…’ The link takes me to the iPhone app! Very annoyed at this.

Please Bring Old Skype Back!. I LOVE Skype, however I do like the old version better. You should’ve left the old Skype how it was but instead you remove all the things that the old Skype had for example all the sound effects. I still love Skype even if it’s bad today but I wish you can just make a option to use Skype clasic or the new one. Anyway good app!

Please do not keep adding extras. Skype is wonderful to talk to people I know and love overseas. I want to be able to see when they are online, connect, and see and hear them when conversing. I do not need or want the bells and whistles. If you must add things, can we choose to not install them? I do not want to sync my phone contact list. I do not want the screen layout changed (unless to an earlier version...) I would like to be able to hear a louder signal of an incoming call, please. Sometimes I miss a call when I am not looking at my device all the time, and the accompanying sound is low, even when the iPad volume is on. Would it be possible to set that volume within Skype itself? Thanks.

Excellent Skype. I’ve been a Skype subscriber for many years now and I just find it superb. Sure, some of the app changes can be a bit confusing at first, but the service is absolutely first class. We just have to acknowledge that the people who criticise will always be with us no matter what! Thanks Skype for a great service.

It’s great, except for this one thing.. Skype for IPad is still great, connection is easy, audio is clear etc. it’s fine, but there’s just a simple thing I would like added — I would like if there was just a simple function to like, remove some abilities from people, that only ‘admins’ (set by the creator of the chat group) and the creator can remove. Like making so that one person is unable to go around changing the name and pfp. Or to stop them from being able to remove everyone, especially the owner. It’s super annoying, and whilst creating a new chat is easy I would just like to not go thru the extra hassle. Other than that, don’t improve anything, PLEASE, just add this and I’ll give 5 stars. I would Love It if I could stop ppl from removing me from my own chat. Unless this is already a thing? I don’t think it is, right? Haven’t been able to find a function for it, anyways.

Good but needs one fix.. Skype has been one of the best messaging apps, plus it has great video calling. However, in the calls you need to tell us who we were kicked by. Because in all my large calls, people often get kicked and we don’t know who the culprit is. This often leads to calls being canceled quickly and the people in it being very frustrated. If you fix this it’s a 5 star app for me.

Was Great !! Wish you left it alone. The old Skype was very good not being very tech savvy I could use it and was very happy with it, but now I have trouble trying to delete anything on there I don’t want, you put contacts I haven’t a clue who they are have done everything to find how to delete them and haven’t found how yet! The old version left this one for dead!!! OH WHY COULD’NT YOU LEAVE IT UP TO US TO UPDATE IF WE WANTED TO!!!!!!!!!! The sound and picture was good but that’s all If it isn’t broke why fix it!!!!!

Skype is great for overseas video contact. Skype have Improved over the years. We love seeing our family and friends through Skype. There has been far less breaks or interuptions in latest use of Skype with family me Bers overseas. Volume and picture has also got a lot better. Keep upthe good Work Skype.

Amazing. Unlike the previous versions of the app, sharing the screen is amazing. I haven’t encountered audio problems. Although, sometimes Skype said that my connection wasn’t strong enough, that has stopped. Would recommend.

Cool but one thing.... Skype for Ipad is obviously the best way to talk to your friends when they are in another state / country. But one thing.. the thing is that it's sometimes glitchy and automatically ends calls whenever I join a game and I want to play with my friend but I can't! :( Also there's an echo in the call sometimes. I hear my voice echoing in my ipad as if my friend was really close to me. But there aren't any bugs and that's great!! :D

Five stars basically - except for this. Most of the time the image quality and sound quality is poor. Stop adding new features its making it harder to use the old features. I skype my parents and grandparents and they didn’t know what the buttons meant. Please make what the icons/buttons look like what they are supposed to do. Do not change the picture because it will make it harder for everyone Thank you

Please think about it. I’ve been using Skype for years now and the only thing that would make me love it more is if it had a button that can take you up to the start of the chat and a menu option for group chats to disable the call/video call feature, my friends and I use most of our skype chats to text and always accidentally call on both the iPad and iPhone versions! Other then those features I will always prefer and love Skype more than any other app of this type!! And thank you to the team behind the app for making an app this amazing!! <3

Very Reliable. Over the last month I have been delivering online lessons using a number of platforms depending on what students are comfortable with. Zoom, Messenger, Google Duo and Skype. I find that Skype and Messenger have proved to be the most reliable of those I have used. I find Zoom quite glitchy. I don’t want to put the others down but I will say that Skype is definitely my platform of choice

GREAT BUT THE AGE. I think Skype for IPad is great, but there’s 1 problem for me, the age is for 12 years old and the one’s that are higher than that, but I use this too and I’m only 9! I really want to call my family when I need them but I can’t download it cause it’s only 12+ and I need to follow these rules, and my family use it and I think it’s pretty great so I’m gonna give it a 5 stars😁

Nothing wrong except..... I love Skype in general it has everything I need but a couple of times when I write a message and then call straight away I see that my friend had read the message. When I asked her if she read the message she said no and said she was sleeping then. Why is this happening? She said her iPad was in her drawer when she slept. Thanks. Amazing app

I Liked the old version IPAD. I liked the old version. I am not particularly tech savvy and i found this new version very difficult to use. The picture and sound was as good as before -so why change? You gave me no notice or explained how to do it so I fumbled around for a while. This constant need to change something that works is not the way to go though I know the motto ‘anything new must be better’ is the new way. Oh well i will keep using it as it has been invaluable to me speaking to my daughter in London

Totally happy with Skype. I use Skype on both an iPad Pro and a MacBook Pro. Just now I had two phone conversations with friends in Germany and Sweden. The sound was loud and clear; the connection solid, and the service very affordable. I got rid of my landline after two years of trouble with broadband and Telstra and now connect only via Vodafone wifi to the internet. Should have done it two years earlier. Would have saved myself a lot (a very big lot!!!) of trouble as well as several hundred dollars. Skype is great!

The bet way of using Skype. I only use the iPad or iPhone app to access Skype these days. They are simple and clear to use, and make the most of what Skype does best which is video and voice calls with individuals or small groups. The audio is nearly always perfect, even on modest internet connections. Distortions and drop outs are rare. Definitely a good app.

You should be ashamed.. Again and again people told you not to give the iPad version the same rubbish treatment you gave the Phone version, but you didn’t listen, you just had to pander to the lowest common denominator, but guess what, your new ‘target audience’ doesn’t use Skype, because even as you enter into the field of Snapchat, even that insidious trash has you beat. I, and I assume the majority of your users, are moving to alternatives. I’ll try Discord, not because they do anything particularly fantastic, but because they’re almost as good as you USED to be.

The app is great. So, this app is a very wonderful experience. You can type to friends as well as call and FaceTime. You can create names and change them, as well as choose an image for your avatar. There is nothing wrong with this app apart from not being able to tern calls off. It is annoying when you are doing something and someone calls you. This can be changed and then the app will be perfect!

It's great - don't 'improve' it please!. Just reviewed the new Skype for iphone with one star, gladly the ipad version is still the old Skype that I know and love. I am urging the developers, please PLEASE don't 'improve' this version into oblivion also! Five stars - but only under the above condition :-) Edit 14 July: Unfortunately you have decided to improve the iPad version for the worse also, same as you did to the iPhone version. There is no proper contact list anymore and no on-offline status switch. People constantly try to call me via the PC telling me I appear online, but in fact I am not. Except on my Mac, I cannot switch properly to ‘offline’ any more, for my friends to see. Shame on you for disregarding user feedback and making the once professional looking and powerful video conferencing software into a supposedly ‘modern’ Snapchat clone trying to appeal to 12 year olds. Why do I need to ‘synchronise’ my contacts? I had a Skype list in the old Skype version that showed me perfectly who is online and who not. Not it is all a jumbled up mess that doesn’t show who really is available. Not everyone on my phone is on Skype and there is a reason for it, could you please appreciate that, thanks. Migrating all my friends off Skype to alternatives now, urging people to contact me by other means. This has really been on a downward slope. Sad. Very sad.

All you have to do is let IPad users see highlights.... I mean, the new update is alright, just make it that when you play other games Skype doesn’t go on hold, mess up your whole contact list, and JUST ADD HIGHLIGHTS... Edit: Wow, some updates have happened and you haven’t listened to people but you still say we have been listening to the reviews. I just need highlights then you might get a 5 Star review, but nooooo! We at Skype will just add stability fixes that aren’t really needed a whole lot. Thanks for me hearing so many good things about friends highlights but I can’t even check them myself and they can just taunt me about it... I hope the next update adds this feature

Mostly good. Found it to be useful most times when calling Friends or family in Europe. Still Skype to land lines is not cheap by comparison to other alternatives, so best to drop your prices to countries where Skype is popular. I only use Skype where or when I have no other choice. Skype to Skype type of call services are now popular with many other popular apps and the quality is as good.

Still the best. You can keep Zoom and Whereby, Skype is still where it’s at! Simple, effective and reliable. It’s my ‘go to’ for face to face communication. Funny story, when we first moved to Australia from the Uk, and told people we were going to be using Skype to stay in touch, my Family thought it was pronounced ‘Skippy’, like the Bush Kangeroo! A lifeline. My hubby is in residential care in lockdown so we can’t see each other for goodness knows how long. Skype has been a lifesaver for us as he can’t understand why we are not able to see each other. Skype is the next best thing to being in the same room with him. Very Irritating Issues. I’ve been using Skype for iPad a lot for online lessons and there are constantly annoying problems coming up. For one, screen-sharing is a nightmare. My teacher has to turn their camera off before screen-sharing and then turn it back on again for some reason, in order for it to work. Secondly, if I tap the screen a little too far left when I’m reviewing the video I recorded of the Skype lesson, it just immediately transfers me to the previous video (which is already irritating in itself), but then when I exit and re-click the video I’m trying to watch it comes up as an error and I have to refresh the entire app. These issues literally happen every single time and I’m on my last straw. If I could screen-record my online lessons on Zoom on my iPad for free, then I would’ve already permanently switched to Zoom without hesitation. PLEASE fix this.

Good to Bad. I placed a review for Skype for iPhone in which I complained that I could not access my Contact list since my primary use of Skype is for Skype Out. Skype told me (and commented under my review) that they were aware of this and were going to fix it. Now I notice that, in this latest update of Skype for iPad, they have taken away the ability to access the Contact list on the iPad version. Come on, guys!

What have they done with recent update??!. I was pretty happy with the previous versions of Skype for iPad but the last one is really clunky. It always goes to black screen when I perform several basic functions I wanna try to highlight text or go back and write something constantly going to black screen so I have to shut down the whole app and start it up againIn order to see anything at all. Please fix immediately! It’s the first major problem I’ve had in a long time in Skype; it’s been mostly fine up til now — I don’t know why you install these updates to try to add new features and bells and whistles that are unnecessary but then create new, significant problems!

When you type in the App, it turned into black screen, Fix it please!!. Skype calling. How does one connect? My calls give 4 rings then close off.

Does exactly what it says it does… but the blocking system has a major flaw. This app works brilliantly, however when you block someone the only way to unblock them is by clicking the unblock button in the conversation tab. The problem about this is that you can also delete conversations. If you block someone you will probably want to delete the conversation, thus deleting the unblock button. If you wanted to unblock them afterwards… it is impossible. I would assume the only way to have them unblocked is to delete the app, and make a new account. There should be a place in settings called “blocked profiles” (or whatever else), where you can unblock people you blocked before. I think this app is very good at connecting people and also provides some pretty impressive video calls, and if it weren't for that one issue i’d give it five stars.

Clunky and unintuitive for 2018. Even after several years under the ownership of Microsoft, the Skype UI remains abysmal. A good UI should present an obvious path to get the job done - in this case 99% of the time that’s making a call from a contact, saving a contact, or just pulling up the keypad for a one-off call. This is not rocket science. There are acres of unused real estate where primary functions could be highlighted. Instead you have obscure drop down menus, tiny fonts, and miniature icons lurking in odd corners. There is also a strange logic to how things are done. Try editing a contact’s phone number for example. Trust me, it’s not a fun ride. The acid test is if you hand your device to a Skype newbie and watch them struggle for minutes to figure out how to get from A to B for a simple task like “call my brother”. This software seems stuck at the programmer development phase with little UI end-user trialing. Lazy and totally unacceptable. If there were viable alternatives I would go there in a heartbeat, but until then Skype holds the monopoly for call reliability and market saturation.

New App for Skype. This. is the worse update ever..there are too many options. I am sure there are thousands of seniors that use Skype just to communicate with family that do not need all these extras. Screen goes completely blank. Once you’ve brought up the keyboard, simple navigation like minimizing it or switching to another contact turns the screen completely blank. Relaunching brings back the normal screen, but once you bring up the keyboard and then try to do something else, the blank screen happens again.

Missing content from existing message threads. My whole Skype conversation is saved on my iPhone however, on my iPad, the information hasn’t been transferred. All that appears is the initial opening message non of the subsequent messages are showing. I have both regular Skype and Skype for iPad. Can you please assist me. I’ve already spoken to a senior advisor at Apple and my iPad is up to date. I also signed in and out of the App Store but this didn’t resolve the issue

Great app. Skype is great because it’s much cheaper than my land line and my cellphone is not an option since the international charge is exorbitant. I call internationally every week and the majority of the time my call is crystal clear considering that I am calling to someone on an island in the middle of the ocean that’s something incredible. The best part for me is the option to continue to talk when the initial fee runs out and they recharge it automatically. I love it.

The best. Although Skype is not longer necessary for many types of calls (often Facebook Messenger fills that objective) for the times when Messenger is not an option, Skype fills in admirably. I often see (bad) reviews about Skype, but personally I can categorically say, that Skype is still top notch when it comes to communication. Although I no longer have a landline for my calls, even when I had it, most (if not all) of my calls were made via Skype and it never let me down. So for all it’s perceived shortcomings, Skype still rules !

Just Awesome. With a daughter doing her Ph.D research work in Thailand and a son teaching English in Japan, Skype is a God Send. Even though there are occasional slight interruptions due to WiFi connection interference, seeing my beautiful and intelligent children on Skype once a week is fantastic and amazing. I remember when I was in the service and we could only communicate with family by snail mail or sending recordings. This is so much better and comforting to us as today’s parents. Thank You Skype, so very much!!

Happy in Michigan. I've been using Skype for over 12 years. I can talk to and see my brother in Florida even though I can't get there. I live in Michigan. I have always appreciated having it. I've been able to see and talk to a friend that lives in Germany also. Today, even though his computer is failing after 20 years, our picture was clear and the voice was clear also. I hope this will be here for us for a long time.

Skype is great but not really. At first I had an amazing time with skype things were going smoothly and nothing troubled me but soon later it started to get let’s just say not for the best. I was going to go text my friends and then I suddenly got logged out of skype and so I tried logging in again it worked but during the loading thing it’s just exited me out of skype and I had to login again but the same thing kept happening to me. Also I didn’t get the notifications I wasn’t on don’t disturb mode though. My friend was texting me and I had no clue! Overall it’s fine but please fix those problems or maybe it’s just me

Video chat problems. When I try to video chat with my boyfriend who is in another state, my video box thing will show up on my screen but he says he can’t see me. When I try to click the video button it does absolutely nothing. But I can see and hear him and he can hear me but he can not see me. I would like to know what I need to do to fix it! I also have Skype on my iPhone and I have no problems with it. But I’d rather use my iPad but it will not work. It worked fine for a few weeks and lately it started acting up and it’s the most annoying thing ever.

Good and bad. I have found the sound quality to be excellent, however I have a lot of difficulty navigating the app. Hard to find out where to add credit. Only seems to take 4.99 at a time...why? Can’t find how to repeat dialing numbers I’ve already dialed. Instead when I press the number it says invite this person to skype. I don’t want to invite them, I want to call them! Maybe I’m just too stupid to figure it out but I don’t see instructions on the app either. So to me it is not user friendly.

Lose Your Account. Skype will inevitably log you out, they will make you reset your password, and when you log back in all your contacts and conversations will be gone. After a lot of digging you will find that somewhere else in the Microsoft ecosystem they have created another account for you, so you will have to go through a process to merge these accounts. If you don’t mind a ton of esoteric troubleshooting, this is the app for you. Otherwise use another. Also they will periodically remove all the money from your account, somehow under the guise of protecting the money they take from your account (but it’s gone - I’m sure there is another process that takes a long time to get it back eventually).

Thank you Skype. Skype has been the only form of communication with family members in hospital in the New Orleans area. My family loves Skype because we are able to speak with my sister who has been in the hospital since March 19, 2020. Although the hospital’s iPad has been inside a plastic bag, we have had clear pictures and voice connections. My sister smiled today to hear her three granddaughter’s voices today. Thank you for letting us stay connected doing the COVID-19 pandemic.

Awesome but keeps hanging up. This app is an awesome thing to use when you want to talk to one of your friends but the thing is when you’re talking to them it could cut them out for a minute and then you would have to recall them over and over and over again so I just think that that should be fixed. But it is some thing that is very fun to use when you want to call your friends just I hope they can find a way to fix how to call your friends without it hanging up on them. That is all I have to say but over all this is a very very very good app.

OK once established but………. I do wish the powers that be would stop playing around with Skype. We older users find it difficult enough without having to learn a whole new set of instructions. When talking the screen is wonderful but to get it on correctly is a real pain in the neck. If there are any further updates that cause such confusion, a different method of keeping up with my friends in UK will have to be found. Please leave it alone!!

Needs more intelligent user interface. As a programmer I can see a lot of accomplishments the team of Skype developers have managed to make in this release. It looks modern, no doubt about that. But the main rule of every social networking app is maintaining convenient and intuitive user interface. And for that this app deserves no more than 3stars. Comparing to the pre-upgrade UI the current one is a step backwards. If I’d be on AD team then I would make sure there is some way to get back to the previous layout. At least I would make it easy to find and display the menu with all customization and tuning options available. Does MS care of Skype customers?

Great. I think this app is great, you can text and call any body who owns this app. I would give it a 100 star rating if i could because thats how cool it is! I like how when you are facetiming someone you can add face filters which is cool! There icecream and unicorns, something fun for lets say a little girl calling her friend. Skype for long distance Language Learning. I an most grateful to the Skype people for this great tool! I have been using Skype for about six months to have a one hour “Chat” with my Spanish teacher who lives in Norway. I live in the USA. The audio is excellent and she can write on the screen to show me the spelling of words and phrases I am not familiar with in addition to sending me links I can click on for further education. Skype is starting to annoy me…. I use Skype on my iPad, it is usually pretty good. I have used skype for a very long time, for very long calls. However, lately it has been starting to get on my nerves. I use this app very often. Recently, it has started the video calls zoomed in, and I am unable to zoom out. There were some forums on the Microsoft page for it and it never seems to get resolved. I want to be able to see the person I am calling in full view, not just part of their face, and then having to scroll right or left to be able to see the rest of them. It used to be pretty good about letting me zoom out, but not any more.

Update broke App. The most recent update broke the app, it no longer works with links sent via email. Before the update I would be sent Skype links in emails. When I tapped the email link, the app would open and I could attend the meeting. After the update when I tap the link it takes me to a web page where I can sign in or tap a button to go to the app. But the button to go to the app does not work! Why would they force you to a web page in order to go to the app when before you were taken directly to the app?!? Why force your users to do an extra step?!? And on top of that not allow them to go to the App because of a broken web page!!!

Connection beyond borders. I am very satisfied with Skype. As a frequent traveler, i often change numbers, which made difficult fir friends and family to reach me. But with Skype, they are able to join me from everywhere either via free Skype call or Online number. I am no longer buying « universal SIM cards », which are extremely costly. Skype is the solution for frequent travelers like myself. Buy a local SIM and internet bundles and you are good to go and you and your family and friends can remain in touch anywhere and anytime.

too bad features.. Audio call quality is best. :) But that is not the only thing for user convenience, right? #1 Contact management within app has gone from good to bad.. And now, with the recent releases of the app, it had gone from bad to worse? Bad team giving the ui feature requirements.. :( Absolutely no end user surveyed requirements.. :( #2 Who in the world designed that initial Dial Out Answer Wait music? :( whenever i dial a phone number, I get two hammer banging on my head (music???) and then a feeble remote ring tone until the remote phone user picks up.. The volume of the initial tone must be normalized with the remote ring tone. Please dont select such bad frequencies .. If you had to choose such frequency, please lower the volume, relatively.. or make it user configurable volume levels for initial wait music.. for remote ring tone, voice, etc separately. I am using ipad4 with bose headset qc35-II.. please test it out. Just this tone spoils my day :(

Limited use, annoying. Not many people use Skype nowadays so the app doesn’t have too much use. For the limited use it’s fine. The only huge negative is that after each call the app asks to rate quality of the call and if you give 4 or less stars out of 5 it forces you to choose among options what was wrong, without choice to just quit or disable this in settings. If you rate as 5 stars it annoyingly asks you to rate the app in the App Store. After every call it feels like a cheapo mobile game infested with ads.

More Audio Settings Please. Skype is really good. Many people are using the “whoosh” app, which may have its benefits, but Skype is perfect for what I need, which is 1 to 1 calls. The only thing that I wish it had was more settings for the audio. For example, settings to eliminate automatic background noise reduction. As of now, I am at the mercy of the app’s algorithms, which aren’t necessary or beneficial for all situations. I would also like for it to be able to toggle between audio or video devices.

Lots of recent issues. I’ve been having a lot of recent issues with Skype. Never had them over the 4 years I’ve had the app u til this past month. It’s always trying “update conversations” and remains frozen until it does. I always have to shut the app down and reopen. Also it randomly scrolls and shifts around and goes on for 20+ seconds before it chills out so I can see the last message received or type an outgoing message. Also, today I noticed there was finally an update. Was super excited, so I updated and it worked for 10 minutes then back to all of the errors. Maybe have to go with another app for convos.

Enjoying Skype. I am enjoying Skyp - it’s great to have face to face chats with my parents that do not have an iPhone/Mac product like I have. The one feature that would make me give 5 stars is if a caller can call me to ring through even if I’m not signed in so that when I hear it, I can answer... instead caller gets message that I’m not online and we have to use a phone to coordinate having skype signed in at the same time... definitely not a deal-breaker, but would be what would take me from giving 4 to 5 stars. Overall, I am very happy.

Doesn’t work on up to date iPad anymore. Skype for iPad has not worked for over a week now. When logging in, I get a “connecting...” notification. Contacting Skype support has been useless, as support has stopped responding to my emails! I was told an update on this issue would come “soon,” but that was on Saturday! It’s now Thursday. History/messages don’t work. I can send messages, but can’t see nor receive any. Other accounts work fine on my device, but not my own account! Skype works fine on my laptop & even my super old smartphone. The latest Skype update did not fix the issue. I’m using a newer iPad with the latest iOS, so it’s not due to having a device that’s “too old.” Fix your app!!!

Could be more user friendly. The quality of Skype calls is very good which is why I switched back from FaceTime which was continually dropping my calls. However, navigating the app is difficult because it is disorganized and not intuitive. Things appear and disappear at random. Also the icons are very small and difficult to read once you find them. They need to be enlarged and to always appear in the same spot on the home page. I’ve been using Apple devices, and going back to Microsoft has been a challenge because of this. Make it EASY to use, please.

Credit Card info. It is always frustrating to figure out how to update credit card info. I only have to do it every few years, but it’s always a search to do it. It seems by now, Microsoft (Skype) would have made updating payments more direct in the app, even if there was just a link in Your Account/Manage your payments & subscriptions. The frustrating part of the Your Account page is I’m tapping on all the bold face words and boxes being linked here and there, landing on none relevant pages. But there is not a direct link to updating credit card info in the Your Account tab. One has to search in Help for a link. If I didn’t have to have a secondary number for work, I’d get rid of Skype.

Can’t you leave well enough alone?. I use Skype for face-to-face communications. As far as I’m concerned all these new gee-gays are fake jewelry on a pig. They don’t add anything to the pig and just get in the way. Besides, you’re doing what so many other program developers are doing these days: you’re adding crap that is hidden from the user and you only stumble upon by chance or not at all, if you press the wrong button or touch the wrong corner of the screen. There doesn’t seem to be any place where the new stuff is presented or explained.

Much better, still not user friendly enough. Had Skype for many years and it has gotten better in the past few years. Sound is better, problems with callers are fewer and fairly rare. It can still be difficult to get to voice mail and too often, I end up calling back a number I did not want to call back. This gets the spammers and scammers all excited because now they know they reached a live number. A little more design tweaking to make it easier and more obvious to tap what I want will help.

DO NOT UPDATE SKYPE!!. I have used Skype for about a decade and it has been reliable and helpful around the world. This recent update is GARBAGE! Poor audio and video seems to just get worse as time goes on since the release. The video becomes progressively pixilated, and the audio is not clear and I can’t quite understand what is being said. I can no longer reposition the smaller video window during video conferencing. This was not ready for release. I’m not sure who made the choice to release it but it’s a bad decision. I tried to put the old version back but couldn’t do it. So my advice is to wait as long as possible to upgrade or find another platform. It’s so bad I sometimes wonder if they are intentionally trying to kill Skype. Because that’s what this “upgrade” is doing.

Very, very bad update. Prior to the 8.0 update, we used Skype to keep in contact with family and friends abroad. It worked very well and was easy to use. Those days are gone according to MS. The new update is here to stay. As of Sept. 1, 2018 no support for previous version will be available. This new update adds a lot of fluff at the cost of Skype’s functionality. The core of Skype is its ability to video chat across different devices. The new Skype is so power hungry videos are now nothing more than still photographs with audio. Giving up functionality for mere cosmetics? MS says they will not be going back to the previous version. That said, I am going shopping for a new video chat app. I walked out of Wal-Mart vowing not to return. I am on my way to the door out of the MS store.

Skype has been doing its job!. I use it for study groups with my peers in class. It’s been very helpful and FAIRLY reliable recently. I’m on the iOS 14. Something and it has been working well. These last few weeks we’ve been able to hear each other and share screens to share ideas. So keep up the good work! We’ve been able to hit the button and make connection the first time. Again, keep up the good work. It’s paying off!

App is great, maybe even better than zoom?. This is app is great for 2 main reasons 1: You can get as much time as you want. Most other apps have time restrictions, great for teaching. 2: You don’t need a phone number, just an email. This makes all the difference when you only have an iPad if tablet. Overall this app has great quality audio and not to forget screen sharing. All thing comes for the greatest price of all free. I recommend this the everyone!

Skype is amazing.. I absolutely love Skype. I can’t live without it when my best friend moved away this was my way to communicate with her. Also I have chats with my other friends from my school. It’s nice to talk alone with them because I can never really talk alone with them. If I could change one thing about Skype it would be the connection between me and the other person. It’s really annoying when the connection is so bad the app hangs up the call. But overall Skype is pretty cool.

Skype not so good,use to be much better before Microsoft takeover. Pretty much everything Microsoft does turns into waste. Skype use to be so much better before Microsoft purchased Skype. Very sad. People that believe otherwise just don’t know cause of limited past experience. It’s the same with Mac computers not what they use to be, because of Microsoft. Bill gates is the puppet for the elite, kingsman secret service movie compare it to what you know by what you see in this world.

Anyone remember when Skype was easy to use and centered around talking?. ... Seems so long ago. Now, you can't just display contacts who are on line; The main screen is "chats", not recent calls; and the main reason for this latest update is to allow you to set your "mood"! Really, Microsoft? You're listening to your customers, and what you're hearing is, "We want to be able to set our mood"? How about listening to all the people who just want to be able to easily make good quality calls to individuals or groups of people? Make it simple again. Get rid of the fluff. Quality over useless substance. Skype is bloatware with "features" no one needs or wants.

One problem about share screen....... Everyone is great but sometimes when people share screen I can’t see the share screen and those people say they can and I can’t so please improve that! Because I have to end so much call and recall them and when I share screen some people can’t see my share screen so please y’all really need to improve this because it hard because people can’t see my share screen or I can’t! Everyone is great about this app but the share screen problem everything else is great! Hope you fix’s this!

Great and Dependable App World-wide!. I have been using Skype since its earliest days. It has continued to stay abreast of the changing internet and global access issues. It has been extremely dependable, BUT like any internet based app, it is ONLY AS GOOD AT YOUR CONNECTIONS AT BOTH ENDS. Being a global traveler, I know that any issue I have had has been due to the poor quality of either my connection or the poor connection on the other side. Otherwise, it has been problem free and extremely dependable. The international rates Skype charges to call mobile/landline telephones is better than competitive, and why I frequently use Skype to call with over international direct dials. I can, and have, always counted on Skype internationally. I highly recommend it as your travel partner for communications.

Really good! But I only have one problem.. Overall, I think its super great! I got this app to talk to my grandparents, but then I realized what of a great app it actually is. I convinced my friends to get this, and they are telling their friends and relatives. But, i have just one thing I dont like about it. When you block a user, you arent able to unblock them. I have been trying to unblock my friend because I accidentally blocked her without knowing. I asked everybody who had this app if they knew how to, but they had the same problem. Skype, please fix this.

Skype keeps our family in touch. The Skype app is on our phones and our iPads so that mom, dad, grandma, grandkids and cousins can “see” each other without traveling across the country. The clarity of the video and the quality of the audio makes these video calls fun. I don’t know how we can enjoy this technology for free but I hope it always stays available for us. Thank you

Skype or internet provider? (Occasional glitches). My 96 year old dad and I Skype several times a week (he lives in a faraway location) and usually it is excellent. Sometimes it freezes up or we have issues with the sound, but I couldn’t tell you if that is because of the app or because of our internet provider...we are glad to have it to use...it’s simple and convenient.

I love Skype. My boyfriend and I have talked via Skype video chat almost every day for over two years. Rarely have we had a problem. We briefly tried hangouts but it killed both of our phone batteries and the video blinked off and on so much we gave up. We quickly returned to Skype. The quality of the picture isn’t always that great, but it still works well and sounds great. I have used Skype for many, many years and it’s really come far as time and technology has changed. It’s great !

Please read. For me the audio is too loud and when I unplug my earbuds it is too quiet like say this when my volume is low it sounds like my friend is screaming at me and when I unplug my earbuds it sounds like she is whispering to me if she is yelling even if my volume is low it is too loud if my volume is high and I have my earbuds unplugged it sounds it is too quiet I’m saying please add for iPad a thing we’re you can change the volume because the volume buttons on my iPad will not fix it you need to add something to fix the problem or fix the problem ,now I don’t want to call my friend so I don’t go def

One of my most used aaps. As an airline pilot, I have been using Skype for years. Every once in a while they are bumps in the road with updates, but for the most part the service has been excellent and indispensable. It makes it so easy to call from Asia, Japan, China, and India, and all throughout Europe. It works perfectly almost every time, and when I am flying the Caribbean and Mexico, I use it all the time. Sharing screens. I have to say the updates have greatly improved using SKYPE for me, with two sisters, in the same city. I will try international tomorrow, hoping for the same. I quit using SKYPE one year ago, due to problems connecting with more than one person. Recently, wanting to share screens, I deciding to go back to it, and with the updates, it works perfectly. The gallery is really good with photos, as well as video. Everything is a POSITIVE.

Screen Recording MP4 issue. I’ve been using Skype since the pandemic to record messages for our church from our pastor and then after, I save the video file and edit it using Luma Fusion. Everything has always worked without issues until these last 2 recordings. I keep receiving corrupted files when I save the screen recording from Skype. It does not recognize part of the file even though I can watch and here the video both Luma Fusion and iMovie cannot process or render the mp4 video file. It’s unfortunate it was the only way we had to do this, now will have to find a different way.
