Crashes. Lousy Support. Don’t Waste Your Money. I got this app to manage waypoints and track from my Garvin GPS. The app does import GPX files, but it will not let you create tracks. For that you need track editor. Then buying Track Editor I found it simply crashes on opening the GPX files from and email attachment and exported directly from the GPS Kit. You can do cool stuff with your waypoints, if this think pix and Facebook and all that stuff is cool, but when it comes to basic mapping functions - as loaded with bells and whistles as this app “appears”, it will let you down. Writing support I provided the device, OS, and version of this software with a list of the bugs I found in GPS Kit and Track Editor. After a few days they responded asking me for the device, OS, and version of their software I was using. (DUH!). Then they gave me a blurp on their features, never addressing the question that these features do not work or are crashing on the iPad. Don’t waste you money on a pretty, but dysfunctional app, and also requirers you to buy additional apps that crash unless you want useless Support to help you out.

Awesome app. One of the best GPS trackers for offline maps. Used it in the Sierra Nevadas, Zion and abroad in Poland, Ecuador and Croatia. Love it!

Great product!. Really like this product. Using it a lot on hikes. A lot of cool features. a lot more user friendly than my expensive handheld GPS. although i am carrying my ipad with me and its a little bulky, having the big screen is good for viewing sat view of area. You can take pictures while you are in the app and tag locations along your route with pictures.

Problems with loading maps. Really like the app - so far, it has been very good except for loading detailed high-resolution maps. I get better resolution maps on every other application except this one. I have to download the high resolution maps, but haven't been able to do that. The video help files are great and once you get the hang of them, it makes sense. However, this still needs work. Until I can seemlessly see high resolution maps that we have come to expect from google maps, I will rate it a 3. Once that ability is available, it will easily be rated a 5.

Just ok. Really needs work. Crashes in menus. "Offline mode" as described in the description is not a true offline mode. In order to use offline you must view the section of map you want and then view at all required zoom levels before going offline. If you are not expecting preloaded maps then this will work just fine for all other gps related needs.

Disappointed. My review is the same, regular version worked great on iPhone, but HD is lacking for iPad. I bought the app, external gps puck, and otter box for my upcoming deployment and can't select the area I want cached. Guess I'll be using the iPhone version on my iPad in the 2x view while the 19.99 app waits for bug fixes.

Used to be better. I don't know how many updates have gone by since this was a great app, but at one time it was the best app of its kind on the app store. What happened guys? The terrain map (as complained about by many other reviews) is all black on my iPad mini, until I read a few of these reviews I thought it was supposed to be that way, as if it were a really bad new addition. Now I see that its simply not working how its supposed to. Is there a bug fix in the works?

Use this for off-roading but not USEFUL. I hope they improve...I can not use Google satellite and Bing image as offline maps. Google satellite also does not load. Hopefully they are working on issues because I need this app to work good

Don't waste your money. I should have given more attention to the review by RuDawg66. Currently this app is in DISREPAIR and UNSUPPORTED. Some of the primary features they tout and show in the app's promotional materials DO NOT WORK properly. Secondly I encountered user interface and software bugs while using the app. I mentioned unsupported, because I tried to communicate with Garafa, LLC through their recommended support channel 3+ weeks ago haven't received a response yet. Don't believe the featured reviews from popular channels they mention. Those must have been written 1-2 years ago. My advice, stay away...

Great app!. This was the first I used an app like this, it's very powerful, I like that you can download tracks from the Internet and integrate them into your downloaded map set. I would recommend this for anyone that likes to stay outdoors.

Nice Update!. Wow, the best just keeps getting better! I really like the new free draw mode for offline maps--easiest way to do it I have seen. I don't have a data plan so this lets me get the whole city in one shot. Battery life and accuracy have been really impressive as well. I don't know if it is something you did or just the hardware but it has been pretty awesome. Keep up the good work!

It's wonderful... When you can get the off-line maps to download. I used this app on my iPad all over the world. I would give it 5 stars, except that now there seems to be an issue with downloading Google based maps and images. I sure hope they get that fixed. Sad to see so many poor reviews, i wonder if they ever watched the instructional videos?

Kit works well, but poor support. I really like many of the features of GPS KIT HD, especially the easy loading of gpx and kml/kmz files. However, I have been really challenged to get any support responses by email, and I can't seem to find a phone number to call. When I asked about showing waypoint labels like google earth does, they gave a fix that didn't work with no response to subsequent emails. I have considered the upgrade to GIS KIT, but not without better support.

What more?. Could you ask for in a handheld gps unit? Cache maps for when you're out of range, track your paths, drop points with photos, notes, etc, and it never crashes. Yet... I've put it to the test and it's fantastic.

Good . Bad . Ugly !!. I bought it on iPad , waiting to be downloaded on iPhone automatically ,but did not . I bought it again on lPhone asking refund the first one , NO Answer from apple ! The iPad version does not do properly and so and so !! Totally it is a good app because it has the ability adding pics and videos to tracks but is very expensive .it does not worth .

What HD means.... ...In this application?. Very expensive for the value received. More than one year and no improvements. It is an acceptable app just for tracking and save the points but nothing else.

Great for Backpacking even with limited support. I bought this app about two years ago while looking for something simple to store POI and images on my trips. Currently using it ons wifi iPad 1 with a Bad Elf attachment for GPS. Tracking and data collection features work great (elevation change, speed, time moving vs stopping, etc). If I had any complaints it would be that only one picture can be attached per waypoint (an album option would be nice) and there does not seem to be a way to reorganize trips if you happen to accidentally star a new trip. Customer support IS sluggish but they do eventually respond. 4 weeks later. Overall not a bad app for the money.

Cached maps are green. Only gps i found that lets you cache google maps and other satellite images. Very happy

Waste of Money. Wasn't happy with it at all. Didn't even have good topo maps. I had gotten the free Cabela's app it had way better features. I wish you could return apps if you did it with in a certain time. This is by far the most I ever spent on an app and regret it.

In short the Best!. I have used this app since its early release back before it had all the advanced features it now has. Back then in version 3.0 it was worth the price as it is accurate and I don't have to carry another device with me. Now that this app has a much cleaner UI and very smart design layout and all the very advanced features such as, Squawk ( see friends locations and speed, live) and all the possible import and export options via email, Dropbox, iTunes, etc, this app is way underpriced for what you are getting. Just to buy a comparable app on my old palm pilot was $49.99 and that lack many of the features and power GPS Kit has. Key features that make this app the great. Works 100% without Internet/data! Maps: Offline maps! Cached in an easy to use interface! Tons of maps!!! As if this app didn't have enough maps already you can add more on your own! I have learned how to add custom map sources and now this app has all the maps I want from the web! USGS Topo! And all sorts of maps! Tracking: Tracks like the best of them and then better. Use the light sensor to automatically turn off and on the screen to save precious power! Let the app notify you that your background tracking will stop soon! Awesome! Pause, resume tracks! Change the color of tracks to color code them. Use the compass, turn off the intrusive figure 8 compass calibration. Tons more features! Dashboard: See all the stats you want in one place! No need to tab over 6 times to see total elevation change just set the easily customized dashboard and you have all the stats you want not the stats the developer lets you see! Never see so many options in the dashboard, glide ratio, moving time, stopped time, inclinometer, plus all the other standard stats. Built flashlight! Yes just click the flashlight out of the more tab, or customize your bottom tabs to have the flashlight readily available. Other cool stuff: Weather stations, social network posting, full graphs for speed-elevation-pace. This review is too long so final words: GET IT! No this is not a turn by turn navigation app it is for the outdoor enthusiast, I use it to Mountain bike, hike, Jeep, geocache, but has tons of uses as it is the most feature rich application on the market. Background processes work the best I have seen in any app. Any review less than 5 stars has a grudge or uses an iPod touch without GPS capabilities.

Works great on iPhone, not iPad. I use this app all of the time with my iPhone. I finally got an iPad and upgraded to the GPS Kit HD version, and Google maps terrain hardly works. Most of the time there is areas of black that won't load.

Crashes, Crashes, Crashes...... Crashes on loading. Crashes during the middle of a trip. Crashes when you try to pull up an old trip. Uninstalled and reinstalled, same problem.

Map resolution. The map resolution is poor and fuzzy, even the google maps that are crystal clear on other apps at same zoom level.

Excelent. I have been happily using the iPhone version of GPS Kit from some time now. The iPad version does not disapoint. The controls are implemented nicely and uses the iPad extra screen real-estate well.

DOES NOT WORK AS ADVERTISED. This app wants to work, but it doesn't. I'm no software guru, but if you get it working on the iPhone you should get it working on the iPad. When trying to cache maps for offline use it won't let you capture the area. Further more your area diapers when you try to view it, etc. For this much money, iTunes needs to be held responsible for having a crappy app.

Unbelievable. Used the iPhone version for years and have loved it. I was excited to use this version for iPad now. It 100% doesn't do what it should. You can't download maps for offline use! Simply doesn't work. Absolutely unbelievable. I can't believe I spent another 15 bucks on this. It's straight up robbery.

Lozza. I bought the program for my iPad assuming I could hotspot from my phone for GPS. I did it on my iPad because it is a bigger screen. iPad does not allow hotspot so I will need to now purchase the app again for my phone. The program even on my iPad crashes a lot even when I have tried to navigate around to learn to use it. So…. basically lost the couple of bucks.

very disappointing. doesn't allow you to select area you want to cache. when you select how you want to select cache area ( either by a circle or square shape or draw) and go to touch the screen, it simply reverts back to the map. it doesn't allow you to select cache area. all i wanted to do was to store offline maps when i drive in the mountains or for hiking or hunting. this doesn't allow you to select an area to cache. please fix. this is a rather an expensive app to have a major glitch like that.

They fixed it. It was working fine until they updated. Absolutely nothing worked for a while. I gave a bad review and got an email very quickly explaining some last minute changes goofed it up. Then when I updated at least 100 of my waypoints disappeared. Of course as soon as I complained about it, they appeared and everything was back to normal. I love this app and how I can make my fishing on Clear Lake, CA waypoints on Google Earth and import them to my GPS Kit. The customer service from Garafa is second to none. Hoping for pre-track drawing soon.

Perfect for hiking,,,,. Tip: caching maps doesn't work in landscape mode. Make sure to flip your iPad to portrait mode for it to work. I live on an 18,000 acre ranch and hike 2 hours a day looking for caves, dinosaur tracks, and bones. The main problem I had was keeping track of all the places I've hiked, as well as the locations of discoveries made. 18k acres is a 24+ mile perimeter! GPS kit has solved this problem!!! The best part is that the gps works without cell coverage and that I'm able to view maps, real time tracks, and previous track history without any type of internet or phone reception. This is all shown using google satellite along with the property boundary. This app is 100x better than any garmin product such as the Felix and Monterra. Garmin is great for recording tracks, but unfortunately their maps, resolution, and screen size make it close to impossible to view outside of a computer loaded with their base camp software. I need to know where I'm at and where I've been in the field not on my computer! The only complaint that I have is that there is no option for different waypoint/ icon images, garmin even has this. The maps tend to get confusing with dozens of waypoints all looking the same. You don't know if it's a house, cave, waterfall, etc. It would also be nice if there was a way to resize waypoints as they can quickly engulf the map. I've also tried mapmyhike which doesn't offer or do anything I need for my exploring needs. I highly recommend gps kit!

SHAME ON APPLE!. Shame on Apple for allowing this app to be sold on their network!!! This app is a scam! IT IS NOT "HD"!! And it will not perform as the scam artists who are producing and selling it fraudulently advertise!! The marketing of this app is despicable fraud and the producer/s lie, lie, lie!! Lost tracks. iOS7 updated my app automatically and now I have lost my track files :( Is there any way to get them back? I can’t seem to find a help link on the developer website either. 2 stars though because I am in love with the app

Used to good. Had this app a while. Early on it was pretty good, but as updates happened, it got buggy, to a point I’ve had to go to another app. No apparent support

Awesome APP!. I do a lot of 4WDing and Fishing in remote areas and was hunting for a decent GPS app for my iPad, I thought why can't I use my iPad rather than purchase a handheld gps with maps? I looked through the App Store and found a couple of 4WD GPS apps at around $150. I wasn't convinced after reading their revues, seems their price is relevant to the ability to download chartered maps to the iPad when out of cellular range. Well with this app you can download your nominated map to cache and they are google maps straight off the satellite! Plus if your buddies also have the app you can see where they all are in real time! Awesome! Buy it you'll love it!

DO NOT DOWNLOAD!. There is a critical bug that doesn’t allow offline mapping to be enabled. I emailed support with a video showing the issue and got no response. Ended up getting a refund as it is essentially useless with no developer support. That is not to mention the fact the developer then charges you again for the iPhone version of the same thing!!! No one else does this, total SCAM!

This is top app. This is by far the best GPS application I've encountered. It has a great choice of maps and is easy to read.

Awesome 4x4 app. This app just keeps getting better and better. I use this as my primary way of navigating when 4wding remote trails in Australia. The recent improvements to map caching makes it very easy to have maps available when in remote areas with no phone signal. Squawk is handy if your mates have the app as well as you can see where they are on the map. My missus likes to be able to see where I am with the location web sharing when I am away on a trip. I save all my tracks and email them to myself to catalogue in google earth or maps. It would be good to see the developer integrate near maps in Australia if possible. The only other suggestion would be to have an option of a more traditional style inclinometer (like some of the dedicated inclinometer apps) on the dashboard. And a way to zero out the inclinometer angle if your iPad is mounted in the vehicle at an angle and also a way to set rollover limits and warnings. It would be good if there was a way to use gpskit on my iPhone to snap waypoint photos and send or sync them to gpskit on my iPad as it is impractical to use the iPad for that purpose.

No longer works, will not download, LOST ALL MY DATA!!!!!. This app was absolutely brilliant, but now after waiting for hours for tracks to open and program to start, I deleted and now it will not download. No updates for a year??? This app is rubbish! I want my money back. Should have no stars.

Bummed out. This app was awesome but I can't recommend it anymore due to the fact you can't cache offline map tiles due to a bug. This bug has existed for over two years now. Such a shame Garafa no longer seems to support the app. It was the perfect navigator app I thought. On the hunt for another one now.

What happened?. This was a fantastic app. With the update it changes into a totally useless app. I hope it’s a mistake. Where do I create tracks- not functional or user friendly. We need an un-update.

Useless App......Do Not Buy!. This was a great app, but the developer has since just been pocketing revenue and not putting anything back into app updates. Don't give these people your money.

Very good, needs some work. This is a great app, but it needs some attention. - The app assumes you ALWAYS want to track your position and tries to find your position (and gives an error if you disable location tracking). This is repeated if you switch away from the app and return. What if I'm just organizing my tracks in the house and don't want to waste my battery using GPS? Should be an option for offline mode. - very difficult to download offline maps, there seems to be a bug that stops me from using the draw area option. Also, every time I try to change the size of the rectangle download area, it just pops me out. - on the data tab, if I sort (e.g. by alpa), my preference is lost as soon as I go to a track and return. - there is no way to tell what the track name is by clicking on a track in the map view (or data view) - there is no way to tell what a waypoint name is on the map in the data tab (I.e. like you can on the map view) Aside from these flaws, the app is great and has some good potential. Looking forward to an update. It's clear the developers know about how to make a great GPS/mapping app.

Stole my money basically.... I do a lot of off-road bush work App costed 15 dollars and was excellent for a bit, then fired it up one day noticed it lost almost all its practical use. Okay if you don't actually need to use its offline uses

Stop updating the app and making it less useful. Used this app for a while but the last update made it impossible to upload KMZ from your email. Now it’s useless again

What the......?!?!?. This used to be an awesome APP and now I can’t upload A kmz file to see where I am within an area and I can’t take georeferenced photos. I thought I’d just purchase the HD product because the regular was outdated but nope, they are both entirely useless. If only I knew how to get the $20.99 back that I spent 30 mins ago and the 30 mins of my life.

disappointed. This used to be one of the most useful apps for our field staff. Sometime after iOS8, a few key features stopped working (offline caching etc). This lost functionality lowered its usefulness to the point where we now use alternative apps. The developer is aware of the issues. It has been a problem for many months now. Disappointed.

Was excellent but needs fix. Without being able to take photos within the app, you are now forced to use a second app and this one is really only there for tracking. Fix the photo issue and it becomes useful again.

Do not buy. Went from great to completely useless. Always seems to happen with apps. Don't ruining a good thing guys, save your money on this sell out app.

Looks good !. Nice app with great functionalities. Quite expensive though, hope developer will update it some more in the coming months. At least for iOS 8...
