Back Issues. I lost all my back issues library Want my back magazine back , I pay for them!!! Awful App , dont waste your money

App works quite well - Thank you!. This app does actually work quite well. I initially could not get it to work. After downloading to your IPad, make sure to view in "Landscape" mode. That did the trick for me. I am now quite satisfied with the app. As is so often the case, it was user error (in my case) that prevented a good experience. If you are having trouble, I hope going to landscape mode will help.

Terrible app for a dying magazine. Before the latest update the app worked *some* of the time, often needing a log-out and in to read magazines. Now, with the most recent update it will not even recognize an active magazine subscription. With plans to already *NOT* renew my print subscription, this has sealed the proverbial coffin. Unfortunate, the articles used to be enjoyable, now they are cliche and tiresome. I imagine the non-professional pilot may find them entertaining, but the lack of any technical information except for sales blurbs makes it worth less then the paper it’s printed on.

Not at all UserFriendly. I am using the new version of this app and it is so frustrating. I finally figured out that you need to click on the “Topics” button to get previous issues. Then, in an issue, there is no way to easily get to the content you want. And, if you put the device to sleep and come back two minutes later, you have to go through the whole process again IF you can remember where you were! And the app will not flip to landscape. And, And, And ….. Please bring the old version back. Please!

Cannot restore purchase using Apple account. I’m have tried for a year. No customer support ability. Will cancel subscription

Placard app INOP and ignore. I was pleased that the app seemed to work well for most of the year - I’m a print subscriber and it allowed me to read on my iPad for convenience. The latest update broke the app again - it wants me to pay again to read my subscription. I would advise avoiding the IOS app altogether - digital access to an existing Flying magazine subscription is so unreliable that subscribers should assume that there is no digital access (contrary to what the Flying magazine website says when you subscribe to the print edition.) Sorry to report that the app for the most venerated and popular aviation publication should be placarded as INOP, again. Will of course be delighted if a future update ever restores functionality, but not optimistic.

Great magazine but lousy app and poor developer support. Similar to many other reviews, I have been a Flying Magazine subscriber for well over 10 years (paper then digital). I truly don’t understand what is so hard for the developers of the app to produce updates that do not reset your login and / or subscription information. I like to read various articles during cruise flight, but never can because the app is constantly requiring you to restore all your previous purchases. Really miss the Flying Archive app as well which had a lot of great magazines dating back much further than the current app.

Not user friendly. I have subscribed to Flying for 40 years. I like magazines, newspapers and books from the App Store. The magazine is great, the articles are terrific! But when you click on an article you have to zoom in to read it. Then move it 4 times per page. That is nuts! I like to read on my exercise bike and this feature makes it impossible. The app is an afterthought to the paper version.

Who would call these “improvements”. You limit the number of issues, the app won’t allow reading offline, you tout the new feel of better paper… seriously? These are things that would be fixed by the old subscription and owners. My subscription is cancelled and Plane and Pilot is the beneficiary.

Happy With the APP!. I have read through the comments and maybe someone from The developer should make several comments about this being a different company than the one printing the paper edition. I looked at this and understood that it was something different so I waited until my paper subscription ran out before getting the online edition. With that said, I really like the online edition and it has worked very well for me. I would give it five stars if it weren't for several issues. I wish there was some way to look at the airplane "centerfold" or any photo that spans more than one page. That is one of the reasons that I love the mag, for the nice photos? Next, and this has already been mentioned, it takes a while to download, that's not a problem because there is so much content, but then it installs it self and that seems to take as much time as the download. Maybe the developed should just change the download to include the un-zipping and installing. Like I said, I like the app, once you are over those things, it works well. I am running it on a iPad 2 if that makes any difference. Feb. 28, 2012 - Really like the latest version, works well.

Slow, slow slow!. Have had this for better part of a year with a subscription. Every month the app takes longer and longer to load and allow usage. This month I've yet to get access to the downloaded issue as the app simply won't enable/respond to touch inputs. Every change of mode requires minutes to get to functionality. Issues also consume hundreds of megabytes each. I love the magazine, but clearly the tech they are using isn't up to my user experience expectations for an iPad app--responsive, fluid interaction.

Great App. Frankly, I have no idea what the negative reviews are about. I just added the digital subscription to my print, downloaded the current edition, and it works flawlessly. I'm using ipad 4 and the color photos are gorgeous. Navigation is easy and smooth. No crashes. Different news and magazine apps all interact a little differently. I subscribe to the WSJ, IBD, Fortune, and Flying. They each have idiosyncrasies, but they all get the job done. I have zero issues whatsoever with this app.

Disappointing. There is no way to even check this app out without buying at least one $2.99 issue. Since a print subscription costs about $1 an issue, that seems a tad high. At least have the courtesy to include a sample issue. Also, there doesn't seem to be any way to subscribe in order to get the usual low rate. And, as another reviewer noted, the capability to log in with one's print credentials and view issues digitally is also absent. This app's going in the bit bucket. Flying would do well to check out The Economist for a quality digital interpretation of a printed publication. I guess if I do decide to renew my subscription in a digital form, it will be on Zinio for iPad, where at least they still offer the discounted rate.

Password Issues. Used this app for a long time. Current version is a total pain. Spent way more time trying to log in to my subscription that i have paid for and made no changes to, yet won't let me log in or download issues. Spent hours on it and frankly a free year subscription wouldn't even make up for the time i have wasted on this thing. On top of everything even tried to reset my password and the only way to do that is to enter your address, which was fine until the only available country to choose from is Canada. When you live in California that obviously creates an error. Oh, and did i mention, works fine on my other ipad. Why did they change this, the new app is horrible and the original worked flawlessly.

Stick with paper for now. As a pilot who travels with an iPad, I recently decided to try a digital subscription to Flying instead of renewing my paper subscription. After a few issues, I wish I could go back to the paper magazine. As others have reported, the app is clunky, slow, and prone to crashing. Also, the app only shows one page at a time without zooming capability, so there's no good way to view the beautiful photos that span two pages of the paper magazine. Finally, each issue is a fairly large download, so plan to watch the progress bar for several minutes before you can access the magazine - the app doesn't seem to be capable of downloading in the background.

Not Worth The Frustration!. I like Flying Magazine in terms of the content that it offers and had subscribed to the paper version for years. Changing to the iPad version was a HUGE MISTAKE!. First if you subscribe by any other method outside of the app itself, you have a 50/50 chance of getting the app to accept your subscription. I took advantage of a special price from an email received and couldn't get the app to acknowledge my subscription. Multiple password resets and download attempts failed. I tried several contacts to Bonnier to get the app working and only ended up with a headache. The app is all but useless. If you like the mag, stick to the paper version because this app is not worth the frustration!

Bad update. This app really went downhill

Less than thrilled. I am a print subscriber, but I also use this electronic version of the magazine too. The previous version of the app was workable, but a major issue was the fact that every time the app restarted it started reading from the start of the magazine. I would answer a phone call and then would have to navigate from the cover to where I was just reading. That was very annoying. Now I have upgraded to the latest version. It is requiring me to sign in again, but what is truly annoying is that it doesn’t recognize my print subscription. I am starting to regret my recent decision to renew my subscription. The magazine and content are wonderful, but the delivery is questionable.

This app is garbage!. I paid for my subscription and downloaded this app, but it does not work. System says I am logged in to my account, but it will not allow me to read articles. I keep getting messages that I am reading only previews of articles and the app wants me to buy the magazine. I already bought it, so why can’t I read my magazine? I deleted the app and downloaded it again. Same result - unable to read articles. The help articles are equally useless. Written by people who can barely put together a sentence, there’s no actual help. A most dissatisfied user.

Friendly App, no hitches, good quality presentation. I purchased Flying magazine and was happy to get the digital i-Pad version as well. I read some of the negative reviews, and wonder if those individuals have a slow learning curve or if the App was made more user-friendly after those comments. Personally I had no problem downloading the App and registration was a breeze. Once I signed in, I was able to quickly download the most recent issue of Flying, which I could browse easily without having to resize. I’m very pleased with the presentation and with the clarity of the pages. I will probably use the iPad version as my go-to reader and use the printed version as a reference for articles I want to clip out and file.

Broken Access for Print Subscription?. Having been a subscriber for a few years now to the print subscription, I was happy to see the ability to read the magazine digitally, which is far more convenient. This worked great for a while, but with the February 2016 issue, I haven't been able to access the digital edition without paying. Attempting to contact support has been futile. Also, minor nit: it's really annoying to download multiple issues at once. Starting a new download will pause the current download.

Past and current issues are gone!. Very frustrated that I can’t read even the current issue via the app without clicking on each article one at a time. Might as well just surf the web. And the past issue library is completely gone. I stopped saving the paper issues some time ago because I thought I would always be able to access past articles online but now all the great past articles are gone. Very sad to lose the archive as many of those older articles were an aviation treasure.

Canceled subscription. What happened? I’d just like to read the magazine on my iPad.. is this so difficult? After much frustration, I give up. Subscription canceled.. and I wish I could get a refund for the remaining few months, as I won’t be attempting to read this confusing and unstable app.

From Bad To Worse....... Optimistic despite poor reviews, I downloaded the app over a year ago. Frustration built month after month of "bug fixes" that exacerbated the problems. Crash, Bam, Boom #%^*+ went the App, each and every time. Desperate for it to work, I persevered, even canceling my magazine subscription after 20 years of customer loyalty, hoping, the "fixes" would finally live up to the hype. Well, you win Madam Bug, I give up after over a year of frustration. I am canceling the app and going back to a paper subscription....just a HORRIBLE app. The worst I have encountered.

Previous version was 5 stars. I’m trying to figure out how the latest version of this ap is an improvement. The previous ability to scroll each issue and page in digital format like reading the print version was great. Hopefully this previous feature will be restored with enough pushback from readers.

Little Common Sense. User name is your email. Password is the password you set up when you put in your member number. Almost didn't download the app because there were only 5 reviews. The 5 that wrote a review were too stupid to figure out the app. Very simple if you have common sense and it allowed me to download all previous mags I received.

Small print. The free samples were short excerpts from a few of the articles in the last few issues. Just enough to get a feel for what it looks like on my iPad. It was clean and nice, but shrinking the pages by 50% so they would fit on the iPad screen made the typeface very straining to read. And the price for an electronic copy is the same as the printed, mailed version. I'll stick to the printed version thank you!

Terrible unstable app. Usually I rate on quality of a working app, but I would think that after almost 2 years they could rewrite this app to actually consistently work. Rarely does it restore purchases correctly and then when it finally shows the issues available for download the button doesn't work or it turns gray and indicates a spinning progress circle but never does anything. I have reinstalled 3 times. I have followed their FAQ for troubleshooting. I've emailed customer service in the past and it takes days to get a response. Just don't understand how they haven't ditched the app and rewritten it from the ground up. So frustrating.

Designed by third-graders. The content is exactly what you'd expect - great. However, the app requires the iPad to be in a certain orientation: you cannot view the pages in both portrait and landscape orientations. Another issue is that, after opening an issue and closing it, if you reopen it, it will take at least 3 minutes for it to allow you to actually flip through pages. It will do this on both the library screen (preventing you from selecting an issue) and within specific issues (preventing you from flipping pages). Yet another issue is that you can only download issues while the download screen is actually running. If the iPad goes into sleep mode it will discontinue downloading, which means you have to keep a constant eye on it and keep the iPad "awake." These are issues that I think could have been remedied by a third grader.

Terrible and frustrating ap. If one subscribes to a printed magazine, and that magazine advertises that print subscribers can now access the e-editions on line, the publisher should not make it a frustrating, impossible experience that infuriates and alienates the reader. I’ve been a loyal FLYING subscriber for over 40 years, and as my eyes age and the printed fonts get smaller and smaller to save space and money, I thought the online edition might be easier to read. But this ap asked me for money every time I touch it. It is about to cause me to cancel the printed version as well. Who’s in charge now? Some adult needs to fix this.

Subscription not working. I have a subscription, but every month the only way to download the magazine is to purchase the single issue, download it and then ask for a refund from Apple. I have deleted the app, logged in again, restored purchases, but nothing works. Very frustrating.

Pain in the .... Well.... time has gone by and I’m still having way too much trouble with this AP. Someone in a review said the NTSB should investigate the AP.... great comment. I enjoy the magazine but the AP leaves much to be desired. Just got a new iPad and everything ports over very nicely EXCEPT this darn thing and it’s certainly not the first time. I actually called the magazine support line previously when I had a similar issue and they told me that they couldn’t help as I had bought it through iTunes...?? Really. It asks me if I want to restore my purchases (well yea...), I take the OK option and nothing is restored. Grrrrrr

Get Flying through Zinio. Just downloaded the update, and really wish I didn't. It's almost useless now. Like the other reviewers have said, you tap and nothing happens. It freezes and crashes most of the time. Turn a couple pages in the issue you're reading, and it freezes up. Love the magazine, but this app is absolutely terrible. The good news is that you can get it through the much better Zinio app, which I didn't know when I bought the subscription (as soon as my year is up I'm subscribing through Zinio). What's even worse is I wrote to Flying's support about the crashes and utter uselessness of this app since the update (before it was fine), I have heard nothing from them.

New version!!. So much better. Now I can read back issues!!

App does not work. Wow, the new interface is great! I should probably overlook the fact that the update does not work. I have tried repeatedly to reset my password (as required), but none of the new passwords have worked... Believe me, I've tried. No, I did not include the quotes. Yes, I did match the case. One star is overly generous. I have emailed customer support numerous times over the past two days to no avail. The one clueless human response I received directed me to a non-existent Apple support page. This isn't Apple's fault. I could read my issues without a problem until the update. Sigh...

Useless Garbage. Can’t log in, can’t restore purchases, can’t view issues. I don’t care at all about flying mag’s facebook page. The last thing I ever want to see is facebook content. Unbelievably useless app.

Poor app. Cant use offline.

Never had a problem. Hard to understand much of the whining in other reviews, because I've never had a problem with the app crashing -- not even once -- in the year plus I've been a subscriber. Dropped my print subscription in favor of this digital format, in fact. The issues look gorgeous on the retina iPad, and navigation is very easy. However, as others have pointed out, downloading is slow, and the interface for managing issues is quite primitive. Thus, one star off for those (long-unfixed) problems, and one more off for the lack of compelling content such as video, animation, etc. that digital should make possible. (Good grief, one of the *radio control* piloting mags blows Flying out of the water in that regard!) Hope they keep improving this!

Latest upgrade isn’t. Now I can’t access the magazine offline. I can’t imagine who thought this was an improvement

Subscription Not Working. The digital edition is a joke. The latest app revision made it so I couldn’t access my downloaded issues offline, so I deleted and reinstalled the app. Then it didn’t give me an option to restore my iTunes purchase. I e-mailed technical support a few days ago but no response yet. I called Flying customer support today but they said they don’t provide support for the digital app. Then they told me the e-Mail address I used was wrong (it was the one in the app) and proceeded to give me another e-mail address to contact them with. I’m about to contact Apple and request a refund for my subscription. It’s pathetic. You guys could do so much better. It’s probably time for me to pull the plug for good until you decide to go back to monthly issues anyhow. So long Flying Magazine. I’ll stick to my monthly AOPA mags and maybe add Plane and Pilot instead.

You’d think they’d eventually get this right. You know, I had gotten use to having to log out, log back in and restore purchases to regain access to my digital subscription on every update. Then came the updates that required further steps to remove “Buy Issue” button and restore the “Download” button. But this update really takes things to a new level. You now have to recreate your account. Anybody else notice the help articles in the FAQ tell you to only use the first 9 digits of your account number? That of course fails ( and I love that it tells you to contact customer service but doesn’t give you contact info). When I use the full 10 digits I make some progress except that it references an incorrect email (that explains why it didn’t recognize the correct email ) and won’t let me edit it (Flying's online customer service does recognize the correct email). I give up. Deleted the app. The publisher of this app is the supposed leader in this field. Absolute waste of my time. As mention by others, just assume you won’t have access to the digital version.

Not good. I just cant download new issues. I have a valid subscription until april22 but cannot find the latest issue

Death of a t magazine. I have always felt that flying magazine was the best of all publications, reading each issue cover to cover the minute they arrived. Since Richard collins left, and more recently, since Mac left, the mag has been on a steady decline. I bought the last issue as an iPad app after a year reading it on the iPad with zinio. What a disappointment. Buggy as a rotten log, and designed by imbeciles. Restricted it to landscape mode has to be the dumbest move ever. I am deleting the app and bidding the magazine adieu after twenty years.

Like it. This app is actually pretty nice in my opinion. I enjoyed the extra features in the digital issue. I would give it more stars if it didn't require everything to be in landscape and if it didn't jack you $3 for each issue. Kind of a ripoff especially if you've been a subscriber for 20+ years. There definitely needs to be better options for paper subscribers!

(UPDATE) Frustrated subscriber cannot read my latest issue. There is no account management or ability to sign in and I cannot figure out how to read my flying mag digital edition. The application just seems to bloated with advertisements and impossible to use. I just want to be able to select library, select my issue and have a great reading experience. Update: The latest app fixes the ability to actually read. Your login is your customer ID. The reading experience is lack luster trying to get full screen. Also it crashes if you try to press the top right button (I thought that would expand the view) but crashes on all iOS devices.

Very disappointing changes … cancelled subscription. I’ve been a long time subscriber (and decades long reader) of Flying Magazine. The dramatic changes to the app were all for the worse. The readability of the content suffered and virtually every new “feature” of the app and interface detracted from the user experience - and the social media like format has compromised the benefits of longer form and more in depth content. I was hoping they would recognize that these changes are unwelcome and revise the app significantly, but I’ve seen no indication that’s going to happen and have reluctantly cancelled my subscription.

Magazine is Great - App is for the Birds. The app’s lousy. It’s forever asking me to subscribe to issues when I’ve had a subscription for years. Logging in and out doesn’t help, and I have to delete and reinstall the app periodically. When it works it’s a convenient way to read the magazine, and considering the app essentially does nothing but allow you to open and read issues, you’d think it would be simple to have a stable app, but no. This is been going on for years by the way and shows no sign of improvement. I subscribe to the print magazine so end up reading the issues more often then on my iPad. August 2019 update - see above. Nothing’s been fixed and the latest version, once I log into the app, doesn’t seem to even know I’m a subscriber. SMH...

Not What It Was. It used to be a decent app. It had its problems, but you could easily find your saved issues. Most importantly you could scroll though a digital magazine, page by page pretty much like a print version. Now an issue appears like a collection of FaceBook posts. Hugely disappointing. Probably the end of a lifelong (since I was 16 - I’m 63 now) relationship with first the print editions and for the last several years, the digital version. 😢

App is DOA. I’ll reiterate what others have said: The app somehow pulled an email address that I had stopped using years ago (and changed on the Flying website) and won’t let me change it again. I used the account number to log in but still can’t get access to the media. Every “update” wipes out the issues in your library and you have to figure out how to get access again. Instructions are either non-existent or incorrect. This new version doesn’t work at all. Bonnier needs to hire new app writers. I’ve deleted it and will just read the print version. It’s sad....

New owner has ruined a once great publication. Long time subscriber. Enjoyed the hard copy version the most. The latest owner has reduced content and raised prices. I still decided to stay. I subscribed to the email version back in June 2023. I received one email link to one edition. That’s it. So I called in October and a recording stated to call back because the phone system was being updated. I emailed requesting a refund. No response. Summation of new owner: raise prices, cut content and ignore your subscribers when they contact you. I’m done. The end of a once great publication.

Drop outs. Until this July edition the app has been OK but now it drops out after only about 60 seconds. Also it requires multiple attempts in Newsstand to get the app to open. FLYING is a wonderful publication but this app is not up to standard. May sack the app developer and start again!

Freezes unpredictably. The old app was OK but the latest one is a PAIN, giving brief episodes of stability and long periods of waiting, restarting etc., making the very good magazine unreadable and thus a bad deal for readers and advertisers... Fix it please. As of May 2013, this is unusable. The app crashes on start up. I have been defrauded by this company as I cannot access the issues purchased and future subscribed issues cannot be downloaded. The convenience for the publisher when there is an international clientele is that they are not answerable to the most basic consumer rights and the Apple money machine doesn't want to know.

Move to a better reader. Great magazine The reader is terrible. Locks up, takes 5 minutes to load after starting. I tried reinstalling and downloading everything again, still the same. Flying, you can do better than that.

App keeps crashing. The magazine is great. The app is not. Keeps crashing. Difficult to download new editions. Please fix the bugs in this app.

When it works. When it works it is a great and economical way to enjoy FLYING. But....it either takes forever to load or doesn't load or flicks you straight back to the newsstand.......

Flying App. This is the worst app to access ever, they renew your subscription from a credit card , they notify you of a new edition ,then you waste half an hour trying to restore your purchases...THEN YOU STILL CAN’T GET AT THE MAGAZINE!! AND SUPPORT IS MORE PATHETIC THAN THE APP! THEY OBVIOUSLY DO NOT READ THE REVIEWS!!!

Flying. This is a great app. I recommend it to everybody. It's better then the magazine itself. Fantastic App!!! thank you Flying.

can't read offline. I was very happy when I noticed that finally there is an aviation magazine available for ipad... and very disappointed when I discovered that it is not possible to read it while off-line. What were they thinking?! Won't purchase more editions until this is fixed.

Fix the advertising banner. Not a bad app, could be better but more convenient than the paper version. Stability ok. Downloads ok. Biggest problem is the appalling rolling advertising banner which takes up nearly half the screen and keeps telling me to buy a subscription or log in when I’ve already done all that. Really ruins the experience. Get rid of it or make it less obtrusive.

Hard work. Once you get it downloaded, it's fantastic. Way I've found most successful is to begin the download before going to bed.

OK. The content is there but the platform is clunky. Need an internet connection to access magazines already downloaded - annoying and unnecessary.

Flying Magazine. Good way to read the magazine but nothing other printed version delivered electronically. Some corporate video from aircraft co's. Application locks up intermittently which is frustrating.

Still not working. The recent release was meant to fix the downloading problems. However, the app keeps crashing and when I am able to download an edition of the magazine, it is not saved to the iPad. It says it is 100% complete but is not saved to the iPad.

Drama with App. Why is my subscription not working. Always have dramas with this App?

Confirmed Junk App. Same problem as reported elsewhere. Unable to restore purchases after numerous reloads etc. Bonnier support totally ineffective.

Awful. Seriously the worst app. It always freezes for lengthy periods. I thought it was my ipad1 but recently upgraded to an iPad 3 and the same frustrating experience. I have kept my paper magazine subscription. This is not worth it, so much for the digital age! Surely a simple magazine app can't be that hard to write.... Muppets.

John. Love the idea, but, when I open app it usually crashes. I have purchased other months ,but won,t download. Please fix these problems. I am not getting what I paid for at present.

Flying. I have been reading this magazine for more than 50 years it has maintained a consistently high standard.

Serious issues with this revision. Don't upgrade or get this revision as it constantly crashes and when re-installed you can't download any issues. Very frustrating!

Version 2 has serious issues. I loved version 1 of this app. It had a number of very useful features like, in landscape mode, scrolling down took you to the next page in the article and scrolling right took you to the next article. Version 2 is buggy. The biggest problem is that it hangs, sometimes for minutes, when you open a new magazine. Worse, it tends to do the same when you return to the app after switching to something else. I miss version 1's much better interface, but v2's frequent hanging will drive you nuts. PLEASE FIX IT.

App is buggy. The app still has lots of bugs. I have an annual subscription but the app won't let me download the latest issue (the September 2011 issue) without paying for it because the app thinks it's the October issue for some reason which I shouldn't have to pay for anyway since I'm subscriber. Arrg! I won't download the issue until this is fixed which means probably won't be able to read it for a while even though I'm subscribed for the next year! It's stupid to have to pay twice for an issue. The app also takes a long time to load and a long time to access an issue. There is no way to delete issues either but these problems pale in comparison to the subscription downloading problem.

C'mom fix it!. App is still crap. Won't download properly and once it is open, it freezes. Fix it. It's very difficult to read a mag you can't get to stay on the screen... Do something! This problem has persisted for months now...are any of the developers reading this stuff. You've got a bunch of frustrated customers. Who are getting sweet tweet for their money.

iOS 11???. Come on people, where are the 64bit versions of your magazine apps? I have several magazines I can’t read anymore due to this faux pas.

Love the magazine, hate the App. Used to be a simple, functional app until they “upgraded” it a year or more ago. Now it is anything but.

Flying magazine app. This app is a piece of crap will not let you read your mag

Obviously not a valued subscriber. Print subscribers are supposed to get the digital edition, but even after logging in with my account number it still ask me to pay for the current issue.

No download. Tried to download the Feb. 2011 issue but once completed you can't access the magazine...? I've contacted Flying to see what the fix is. Hopefully I'll have better news soon. Don't download yet!

Cannot download the magazine. It looks great, but when I click on download for the september issue, it always hangs my iPad or it kills the app, so it doesn't work!

.. Unable to contact them as their e mail system doesn't appear to support a Canadian address.

Very Bad communication. Ive lost a lot of time trying to access the customer service with no success as their access page just Keet asking for a Zip code even if i have selected canada where we dont have zip code so i just canceled m’y one year already paid subscription for bad customer service.

App sucks. I bought the March edition of flying magazine, but the app won't let me buy a previous version such as February or January-why not? This is one of the most difficult apps to use what a disgrace!

Problems. Stay away from this app until they fix it. I have a few copies that I haven't read because I can't open them yet they still want my money. I'm surprised they haven't fixed this yet. Maybe they don't care?

M.. App is not working... Rip off! I paid for a year and can get my download.

Almost ready. The current version (2.4) still causes my I-pad running 5.0.1 to lock up when using the Flying app. Exiting the app and retrying will sometimes get around this, but the lock ups still come back. Previous versions (before 2.3)did not have this issue.

Flying. Very frustrating app! Always a big hassle trying to download the new issues, annoying waste of time!

Not a good app. Crashes and is slow.

Impossible to cancel subscription. There is no way to cancel subscription. Good luck to reach Bonnier Corporation. What a shame apple is keeping this way to do business in the App Store!

Flying mag. Good but flawed. The app takes 5 minutes or more to load before it allows you to read your downloads. Hopefully a fix is on it's way!!!!

This app made me cancel subscription. After purchasing paper magazines and then subscribing to the flying magazine on line service, the latest app is a huge disappointment and will push me to cancel subscription. All past magazine downloads disappeared, no « scrolling « through the magazine anymore, no index, no value.

Flying magazine app. I love the magazine but the app is exceptionally prone to crashing. Sometimes have to try loading two or three times to get it to run. Once it's going it's fine. Also when downloading its exceptionally slow at updating the " view recent downloads " and will try to download multiple times of the same issue. W V

Great mag, so-so app. No matter what I do, I have to delete the app and reinstall everything from scratch every time I want to load the latest edition. That works, but why should I have to do that? The latest version was supposed to fix the problem, but it doesn't seem to have worked. This "updated" version has also added giant ads to the past issues index page that takes up half my iPad screen! Yes, I can scroll below the ads to see previous issues I might like to reload, but now, thanks to the giant ads, I can only see only two at a time when it used to be six. Very annoying.

App is garbage. App is garbage. I’ll stay with my print subscription. Total idiots at Bonnier for app that does not work, denies access to valid print subscriptions, etc. No apparent phone based customer support. Morons.

Flying Magazine Ruined. This app has ruined Flying Magazine. It has basically become a newsfeed service. For aviation news, I check AvWeb who does a good job. The articles are not organized in any meaningful way so it is impossible to find your favourite author or column. The current magazine (Q1, 2022) has to be read like a webpage by scrolling down and clicking. Why can’t I read the magazine like I did in prior versions of the app?!? I have subscribed to Flying for decades and it is sad to see it in its current sorry state.

Great content, painfully slow app. Wonderful magazine, very nice to read on the iPad and i look forward to it becoming available each month. Especially nice that you get it early, about the 14th before the month. Reasonable price with annual subscription, I wouldn't bother seeking it out in a store nor subscribing to the physical magazine. Unfortunately the app is *painfully* slow! Now that I have several issues, it takes over sixty seconds just to launch, then frequently crashes!! To make matters worse, almost every time you switch out and back you must wait again. It seems like the more issues you own, the worse it gets. Also, magazines only download at about 1mbps regardless of your connection speed so expect to wait twenty minutes or more to download a new issue, and you can't leave the app while this is happening. Yes this is all on an iPad 2 with lots of memory. This app is seriously flawed and absolutely must be fixed -- i assume they will but my patience is wearing thin -- but if you are a pilot I still recommend it.

Enough!. Once again I cannot access new magazines, even with an iTunes subscription. I have reinstalled 5 time, and tried every ‘trick’, but still cannot access new downloads! Where the hell is customer support?

Great magazine, terrible app. Very disappointing, error messages range from unable to find your account, doesnt match our records, we are encountering problems try again later, to no error message at all, just doesn’t work. I’ve reloaded the app 4 times and continue to get the message that I’m out of date and need to load an update

Unstable. This is the most unstable app I've ever seen, very disappointing coming from such a good magazine.

Subscription blues. Hi after downloading the March 25 update I can't load the application anymore, I just renewed my subscription for a year and I can't read my magazines. Aldo

Problems with march 25 update. Prior to doing the March 25th update I could access my Flying Magazine subscription now I can't does anyone else have the same problem and if so is there a fix?

Terrible. Crashes all the time, so irritating, you're better off with good old tree killing magazines.

Unstable. Great magazine, but horribly unstable. Go purchase the yearly subscription through Zinio instead. It is the same price, and works seamlessly with my Plane and Pilot subscription.

PA. My problem was fixed: I had the same problem with the new version, not being able to authenticate my account even when i asked the app to send me another password to my email account name. It sent the password but it would never work on the ipad for the Flying app. The problem seemed to be because I had two account numbers, one for the paper version and one for the digital version. I phoned Bonnier's customer service and once they combined my two account numbers into a single account for both paper and digital the app accepted the new password. Hope this helps some of you. Good magazine otherwise.

Flying doesn't take off. So despite the negative reviews I download the app and buy the current edition. Doesn't open! Arggh, so I try again and guess what, it charges me again and still won't open. $6.00 later and I never got my magazines. Rip-off!

Flaky app. I downloaded the July and August issues, no problem (other than the fact that you can't see those double-page pictures properly: they don't fit on the screen and you can't zoom out. Not very smart.) Now that the October issue is available, I can't download. I called the publisher, they say they can't help: I have to resolve the issue with the Apple Store !?!? I'm not renewing the subscription.

Rip off!!. Piece of crap! Very unstable app that crashes. It sells you magazine issues for $2.99 then crashes. Very disappointing, I feel ripped off and will not buy the physical magazine as a result of this bad experience.

Broken app - does not work on iOS 4.3. Be aware. This app is broken on iOS 4.3. You cannot view magazines previously purchased, or newly purchased.

PLEASE FIX OR GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK!!!!. This app used to work flawlessly, but now it freezes all the time. I have an annual subscription and can't read the magazines because they won't open. Again, it used to work great and now I want my money back. I don't know if other magazines have the same issues but I don't think so because others seem to get good reviews. PLEASE FIX

Poor. I paid but cannot access the current issues.

No website portal?. Come on! Even Time and Newsweek allow the app to link to their website. I have been a Flying subscriber for years and am disappointed that with nearly every print issue discussing pilots and technology, they have yet to practice what they preach. Please add the website articles as a portal for extra content, and allow for multiple issue purchases.

ZERO Stars. Bonnier, what is your problem???? Why would you DELETE all the issues that I paid for and then make it IMPOSSIBLE to restore them by putting me through password and account access purgatory.? Not to mention your NON EXISTENT customer service. Friends, don't make the mistake I made by trying to do business with this RIPOFF ARTIST of a company!!

App doesn't work at all. I'm a current subscriber and the app doesn't work. No matter what way I log-in (account number, e-mail, address...) it doesn't give me the option to download the magazine. Customer service's only response is to erase the app and download it again, which also doesn't work. Don't waste your time.

Almost unbelievably bad.... It's really disturbing and ironic that people who are flying airplanes around using iPads cannot create a working app. Like a number of other reviewers, I've purchased a number of magazines that I can't read now because the app won't open, no matter what. This app has had numerous and ongoing and serious problems. Why can't they fix them?

Download is working fine.... I got the app and downloaded my first digital edition in mins. Well worth a couple of bucks per issue. I don't see any in-print edition ads... Although I'd like to have an option to see the classifieds...

Crashes, will not load.. There is no excuse worth listening to for this awful app. They clearly did NO beta testing, and now don't care enough to fix. It simply WILL NOT load. Nothing I do will correct it. Flying isn't that great a magazine anyway. I want my money back. Will I get it? HA!

App will not open. I do not have a crashing problem. After downloading approximately 10 issues the app refuses to open. Yes, I have plenty of memory available. Other magazine apps that I have with many more issues than 10 do not share this issue.

Still junk. Been a subscriber to flying for a long time. They have no idea what it takes to for an app. After getting approved to access, by account number, email address, last name, and password, I try to access without avail. What is my user name? I didn't set one up and nothing works, not my last name, my email address, nor my account number. Now I can't even access my account much less get a digital copy of my subscription. I just erase this and stay with AOPA Pilot and EAA Sport Aviation.

An app that seldom works. As a long term reader of Flying, I was more than a little disappointed in this app. Most of the time it doesn't work at all. Nothing works -- you tap on the screen and nothing, absolutely nothing happens. This is the worst app I have ever seen. I am really sorry I subscribed.

SLOW. The US Postal Service delivers mail faster than this app loads. Surely this can be fixed. Content is OK (although nothing over/above the paper version), but you need the patience of a saint - and lots of battery- while it loads. It's almost like the publisher is still on steam gauges.

What did I pay for?. Where did my subscription go?! I paid to get the digital versions, and now suddenly I don't have access to them because my account is invalid. And "forgot my password" is no help because you can't click on anything from that screen! Unless I see an actual fix, I will not be renewing.

Why have they still not fixed this app. Prompts me to “restore my purchases” Every. Time. I. Launch. The. App. Nothing works until I log in to “restore.” Almost a decade of the digital/iPad version down and they still can’t get the app right. The ADS-B 2.0 mandate will arrive before this app ever just works.

Never had the chance to get into free subscription. Tried multiple times accessing the free single month offer but app is stuck with "Purchasing subscription..". Makes me wonder if the backend servers are overloaded and will have the same experience for new issues every month. Back to Zinio for me...

This App is Worthless. Beyond it just being a reader, heaven help you if you forget your password or want to update your profile. The available links to log-in don’t work at all. The give you several options to restore your PW but they simply do not work and taping on the option does not work on IOS. There is NO tech support at all. Bonnier Corp doesn’t care about Customer Service. All they care about is selling subscriptions. Beyond that then you are on your own. Good Luck!!

Works great....MUST DOWNLOAD HORIZONTALLY. I gave it 3 stars because it works as designed once you recognize the bug. You must turn the iPad horizontally (landscape mode) to download or the download fails and you still get charged. Also, you only pay once even if you download multiple times so try again if needed.

Double Charge. I'm not paying twice for the same content. Several of my other paper subscription allow me the digital version as part of my annual subscription (another way to incent annual subscribers).

Bad app. I agree with the others. This app is terrible. It always crashes or freezes. One has to wonder if the publishers ever look at these reviews or if they even care about the opinions of their customers. Apparently not, or this would have been fixed long ago.

Atrocious APP. Absolute disgrace. New fix still does no good. Cannot acquire new Flying magazines issues with either updated app on IPad 4 or older versions. Older iPad 3 is longer useable for downloading the app update and will not allow me to reload the older app version. Still requires buying another subscription even though it recognizes me. Will not give me access to current issues.

Cannot download the latest issue. The application installed OK, and then I tried to purchase the December issue. The transaction appeared to go through, but then the issue would not download. I restarted the application a few times, and continue to get an error message "Could not connect to download server."

Pathetic. This is pathetic. I downloaded the app, purchased the annual subscription but when I downloaded the current issue it failed. Now I cannot see anything but the previews in the store. I deleted and reinstalled the app twice with the same result. You can go in and select manage purchases if you reinstall the app and you will get your subscription back but it has not fixed my problem. This is my favorite magazine, it's sad that they delivered such a terrible product.

Paying twice for it..... I'm already a annual print subscriber for about 8 years now, but to pay more and more for that, then pay on top of it for the digital subscription, which is nothing more than a scanned copy of print, is ridiculous. It really makes me wonder if I want to remain even a print subscriber. Probably not after this term expires....

Not ready for prime- time. I like the magazine, but the app is not "ready for prime-time." It crashes 9 times out of 10. Currently, it won't open at all. I am no longer going to waste my $ on electronic issues I can't read.

NTSB should look into this app’s frequent crashes. Flying is an excellent print magazine, with insightful tips, stories, lessons, and makes all of us better pilots. This app is the exact opposite. It looses downloads after updates, and dropped ability to view magazines. It flat out doesn’t work.

make it better. You guys should make the app to where if someone already subscribes for the magazine on a yearly basis, they can confirm that they do on the app, so that they dont have to pay more since they already subscribe.

Really Bad App. As many of the other reviews say, this app doesn't work at al. On this version downloading an issue is a pain, it freezes and does nothing. The last issue I was able to download was January. The old version worked better than this one. Plase do something about it! Not fair for us that already paid for the 12 isues and/or single issues.

This app is a piece of C**P! Dont Buy it!. This app has worked poorly from the start, and is impossible to use on my IPAD. My IPAD freezes for hours, occasionally it will work properly for 15 or 20 seconds and then it will freeze again, and stay frozen until I kill it. I really want my money back

Disappointed Print Subscriber. App let’s me log in and recognizes that I have an account but is forcing me to buy issues I already paid for as a subscriber and I lost all of the previous downloaded issues when the app updated. This has happened on several occasions the last couple of years. Terrible IT support makes for a terrible app.

Didn. I loaded this app on my iPad2, and couldn't get it to work properly. The app, itself, loaded fine. But, when I attempted to load an issue of the magazine with the app, it simply spun its wheels, as it repeatedly failed to load a single issue of the magazine. Fortunately, I had only purchased a monthly subscription, and was able to end the subscription by simply turning off renewals.

Surely better coders are available. I like the magazine. But the digital version is a tragedy. I had my unread issues downloaded, when I noticed the app updating. I only realized the update had erased ALL my issues once airborne, with 11 hours to go before landing. After landing, it now claims I have no purchased issues. It should not take hours to straighten this out. For a journal that is supposed to bring a small measure of joy to pilots, you sure make us go through a lot of grief to get it.

Still broken. Just downloaded July. Won't show pages uless you pinch and reduce each page individually. Does show preview. New issue is portrait only and last month was landscape. Everything I liked about there previous organization is gone. Now it's just a scan of each page. No more down arrows for the same article. Get rid of this ap now. Type too small and only portrait

Love it. I am quite surprised at the individuals giving this magazine low ratings simply because they lack the ability to use technology correctly. Review: fun to read, well written, relevant, great images as well.

Money wasted for nothing. I just donwloaded the April issue, 100% downloaded, then nothing else happened. Go to downloaded and nothing is there. I want my 2.99 back!!!! How can i get my money back, since i didn't get what i paid for? I've been a Flying subscriber for the past 17 years and it's a shame what they did with this iPad version that charges our money and doesn't work.

Ground bound. I've been reading Flying via the Zinio App for quite a while and it worked great. Fast downloads and a slick user interface. Now Flying finally offers it's own app and it's slow, downloading is anything but fast or easy. 3-4 tries and MAYBE I get the issue. The only good thing I can say is that the text rendering is clear.

Very disappointing. After being very pleased with other magazine apps (Macworld, Pop Photo) this app is a real letdown. I have not see the crashing others have mentioned, its just a terrible app. Absolutely no attempt has been made to format the content for an iPad. Need to zoom in to read anything. Its just a bad PDF reader. It would have been better as a PDF in iBooks where at least it would remember your place from one invocation to the next.

No Probs!. Great digital version. I was surprised that I could tap on a story in table of contents and it took me there. Ads are not a problem in digital issue. Thanks Flying and keep it up :)

Works, you just have to reinstall.. I had the same issue as most of the latest comments. I just deleted the app and reinstalled it, restored my purchases in the settings and it worked fine.

Works great. Verified my subscription. Logged in. Restored purchases. Boom, back in business with my new phone. Love the magazine. Love it more electronically.

Portrait only?. Guys, most every iPad magazine out there can be viewed in landscape. Seems all you have done here is scan the magazine and transposed to a shell iPad viewer. I would venture a guess here: most contemporary pilots and enthusiasts are techno-savvy enough to want a feature-rich experience. Yo do not provide that. There is so much potential he guys, take a look at Wired and get some ideas. I am certain Garmin, Piper, Cessna and others would love to showcase their products in a more advanced app. Lastly, you do *not* have to show the purchase page after every story page on the preview editions, it is quite annoying. Try a bit harder please. An avid print reader.

WTFO. Everything was working fine and now after five issues out of 24 your app is haywire and it looks like I am just one of many. Don't pay a dime for this app until they fix it and those of us who have been inconvenienced are made whole. I'll never understand the need for IT people to screw up things that worked fine.

Another awful, backward step by Flying. Yet another hasty release of a poorly tested version of Flying. By updating my Flying app, the most recent issue is May 2014; it's August 7th as I write this! My paid-for June, July and August issues have also be deleted from my library and cannot be downloaded. Thanks Bonnier! Won't be renewing my subscription.

Still Not Working. In contrast to other recent reviews, it is not working correctly. Downloaded the first magazine with no problem. Very happy. However, after downloading 2nd and 3rd magazine I have nothing but problems. Flying screen comes on as soon as I tap the icon, but then it closes instantly. Now I can't read any of the 3. Not what I would expect from such a professional publication.

Crashes constantly. Thanks for taking my money and giving me nothing in return. It used to hang/freeze up for 20 seconds or so just after loading and then you could use the app, but now it freezes permanently with the latest update.

Make it work!. Crashes on opening all the time. Takes several attempts to make the app even open up. New issues don't show up and the app quits quite frequently. We are paying the money for the magazine subscription and would expect it to be reliable like the paper version.

Current version doesn't work. The app hangs after the most recent update. It took me several attempts to download the Feb issue. Now when I open the app, it does nothing. I subscribed to flying after having been a recent print subscriber. However, it is immoral to charge for something that doesn't work. If this continues, I believe the company should quit charging for issues that cannot be opened.

Um, no thanks. OK, a paper or digital (through the web site) subscription is about $1/issue but they want $3/issue for the iPad copy?!?!?!? At least with the digital copy I can keep it on my NAS drive "forever". It's not clear what happens to the iPad copy when I need more space (or next months edition). I was really hoping for a way to reduce my paper 'footprint'. Guess this isn't the app for that... C'mon Bonnier, embrace the digital future!!!

Disappointing App. I’ll preface my review by asking any readers out there who know how to use this “updated” app to let me in on the secret. Otherwise, like the majority of reviews, this updated version is disappointing. Despite following the instructions provided in the email from Flying, I am unable to restore my purchases and, subsequently, read the magazine electronically. I thankfully still receive the paper version of Flying and will continue to rely on that until this issue can be resolved - hopefully soon.

Great. Just Great!. I wish all my magazines came like this! I have not had one of the negative issues that the other reviewers have had. The interface and formatting are great. In wifi it downloads quickly. I dumped the paper subscription. Now I am dumping my paper charts and switching to foreflight.

No download. App will not Allow any selections on store page. Cannot download latest magazine even though subscribed. Ipad 2 Cannot even open previous issue.

No longer useable. Other then a few minor issues and slow loading the app was okay, but since last update I cannot use the app at all, it will not even open anymore. Screen turns black and after a few mins returns back to the standard iPad home screen...needless to say I will have to cancel subscription since I can't read the magazines anymore.

Where. Where is the yearly sub? Bonnier should take a look at how many Autoweek subscribers there are when you drop the price to reasonable levels. How much more does it cost to produce re print? Not much! Right now can sub for $1 a issue. Where's the sense in paying $2.99 an issue?
