needs some fixes. I have been using Plex for about 1 1/2 years now and it has been great! The video quality is good, especially considering all the other apps i have used in the past. Sound is great, but I still have one problem that i have seen other reviews mention as well. I go away a lot on trips and stuff so i usually download and sync the movies i want to watch. As soon as i click it, the movie would not show and would just keep loading and glitching and blacking out. I don’t understand why because usually when i download stuff in the past, it has worked fine but suddenly this is happening and it gets very frustrating to watch a screen load when i want to watch something. I think what this app need is some attention to fix some other issues, importantly this one. Please get this fixed, I really love Plex, i love to use it and if you can just check out the download and sync maybe make an update to help the issue, that would be great! Thank you! - Mikayla🤍

Flakey and invasive. I want to like this app and the Plex server, I really do. After all I paid good money for both when first impressions/tests were good. Since then there have been many updates, and it has been more frustrating than usable. Having some experience debugging both software and network issues, I’ve spent way too much time trying to understand what this app is doing or rather failing to do, which causes it to frequently stall or not even connect to the server within our home network. Time I would have rather spent actually enjoying our media. My #1 complaint is that it stalls or buffers so much that it is unusable. Our LAN and all devices are plenty fast so congestion or speed of connectivity isn’t the problem. #2 WOW! This app calls home a lot. I think that might actually be the root of the problems. It even authenticates with an external service when all we want is for it to play local content. UI wise, it looks nice, but ultimately it needs to be able to play our content. For that we found MrMC, which is just superb and rock solid. Plus, MrMC seems to respect user privacy and rarely makes external requests... if ever. Regardless I keep revisiting this app to see if updates have made it more usable because the UI is nice, and because I paid so much for it. As of sept. 23, 2018, it still stalls on most content, while the same files play perfectly in MrMC.😑

In for a lifetime. Full disclosure, I’m a lifetime member. I wasn’t always, but I was monthly for over a year before going all in. I try to get as much information about a product before I deem it worthy of occupying room on one of my servers. After narrowing down my choices to three, I see by my notes that there was only one that made conscious, constant efforts to improve the experience for the person using it to manage all of a ridiculously huge catalog of movies and music. Now they offer live streaming of their own content. It’s really the only entertainment choice for me, and not just for a lockdown. I have access to my entire connection on any and every device that I own. I HIGHLY recommend Plex to all my geeky friends and coworkers.

Nice UI, freezing issues/missing feature already included in web app…. The UI is nice and clean. I even unlocked iOS playback. Only reason of unlocking iOS feature was due to iPadOS having issues on web app when touching the screen. Anytime I touched the screen, it would constantly pause the video I was playing. The app is constantly freezing whenever you switch back and forth in iOS multitasking. It would also be nice if the app would play picture-in-picture automatically when switching between apps. It already does it using the web app, why not the iOS app…??? Also, the “Home” screen that shows videos to continue playing does not update within iOS app. So in order to continue playback where I left off if I switch from tv to iPad is to go through all menu options to the video and continue from there. It also does not show if you watched a video from the video menu like it does on the web app.

Just do it. Do yourself a favor, unsubscribe from the million streaming services you use and just buy the Plex lifetime pass. One and done, no more rip off monthly charges for the content you want to may or may not be there when you want to watch it. No more hopping from service to service to watch all the things you follow. Use Plex, you don’t even need to pay a dime. If you want hardware transcoding (faster conversion time) among some other features and support the awesome devs, then do so! However if you do not, you still great the great product that is Plex. Start your home server and collection. Share with all of your friends with no effort into configuration. Plex does it all for you, pulls in metadata from multiple internet media databases for artwork, trailers, ratings, actors, etc. It helps you track what you watched, what is on the list to watch, what ratings you felt it deserved per episode/season/show whatever you want! Stop giving corpos your hard earned money and let Plex work for you. The only effort required is for you to provide the media. If you don’t want to, Plex has lots of content you can watch for free, you can connect any streaming services you foolishly still pay for and access there as well all in one place. You can also watch a lot of free tv channels, as well as store your pictures and music as well if you want. Do yourself a favor and try out Plex

AirPod connection needs attention. After months of going back and forth, I finally took the plunge and paid full price for the Lifetime Plex Pass. I must say, i was immediately disappointed by the poor interfacing with my AirPods. In particular, if I pause the music by a double tap to my AirPod, and the phone goes to sleep before I want to restart the music, the app will not play music to the AirPods again without closing and rebooting the app. To be explicit, connectivity is not restored by a double tap of the AirPod when the phone is off, on but on the lock screen, on and logged into the phone but not on the app, or even when logged back into the phone with the app open. Furthermore, opening the app and pushing play will cause the progress bar to advance but there is still no music playing. Please address this in a future update. As another suggestion, there also needs to be a less clunky way to switch between online and offline browsing mode — maybe assume if no server is available default to offline mode?

Impossible to download items in library. All guides/info say you can download an item by visiting its details or ‘the context menu’ but there is no option to download in the details screen or any menu-context or otherwise. Apparently you have to subscribe to get access to ‘sync’ your items for offline play, so I went ahead and upgraded to see if an option would show up. Nothing has. I just want to move copies of my owned media to my devices for offline play during travel. Just finished trying to setup a managed profile for my kid and added the movies that were age appropriate. Logged into the new profile I created to see what would show up and the screen was littered with TV shows that included thumbnails with handguns. There were also horror movies-despite my setting the restrictions on the profile to G and PG. I guess age ratings don’t apply to Plex Picks for whatever reason. App has been sliding downhill for years.

Just one issue.. I have been using Plex for years and all of a sudden the video was playing in low resolution even though I have a very fast WiFi connection with over 600 mb/s. The problem was the “Automatically Adjust Quality” setting was constantly making adjustments that weren’t needed and forcing a low resolution. Picture would look grainy then Hi-Def then grainy again. Was driving me crazy. As soon as I turned off that setting in the app, all was good. It took a while to figure that out after trouble shooting the WiFi and other settings in the app. Movie night was ruined for that one Saturday night with the wife as by the time I figured out the problem it was too late to watch anything. I still gave 5 stars as I still love the Plex interface. Just an FYI for anyone else having the same problem and maybe for the Plex developers to address it.

Personal media streaming server exelence. I can’t speak for Plex’s offered content. I have never used it and have it disabled. I only use Plex to stream personal content off my media server. And it does a superior job doing so. It is as automated or as custom as I prefer. Has a top notch professional user interface. And offers a wide range of access. Best of all, it plays nice with Sonarr, Radarr, and Lidarr. I don’t even need to be in the same country as my server and have full faith that I can view and manage my library from my phone, smart TV’s, laptop, or almost any device connected to the internet. My kids have even use it on their gaming console. I CONNECT MY PHONE TO MY TRUCK’S BLUETOOTH AND WATCH YELLOWSTONE IN 4K & SURROUND SOUND! I’ve been a paying subscriber for years and use it daily. I highly recommend Plex to anyone running a personal media server.

Almost perfect.... For a long time, I couldn't find fault with this media app. It looks amazing and is extremely flexible and scalable. I use it at home on a Mac as the server and am able to run an Apple TV with its beautiful interface. My most irritating pair of bugs is with the iOS (iPadOS) app. When I'm watching content on my iPad, subtitles are shown when they shouldn't be. They show up as "OFF" in the settings, but they're most definitely on. The only way to get them to go away is to turn them on, then turn them off again. HOWEVER, after turning them on, the timing for tapping the required menu to turn them off again is very important, because there can be no subtitles present on the screen when the video is paused to turn subtitles off or that subtitle will be present at the bottom of the screen for the rest of the video, or until this whole maneuver is attempted again. Very distracting and an irritating bug to say the least. Most shows have a minute or two of recaps, so it's pretty much all nonstop dialogue (subtitles). This all being said, the Plex team has created an AMAZING media environment for the user. This level of quality is what every media company should aim for. I'm sure once the folks at Plex discover this bug, they'll be able to squash it in short order.

Great app, clunky interface. This app is my go-to app for watching videos, so, I want to give it five stars, and I wish I could give it another half star because it's that good. There's only one small complaint, and I hope the developers are reading this, because I know I'm not the only one that has mentioned this flaw. Please let us access our playlists from the home screen! It's more of an inconvenience than anything, but, I have to find the part of the library that the playlist is in, then the section, then the playlist. I know, it's a very minor inconvenience, and it used to be on the home screen, but I feel it would make this a five star app. Other than that, I can access all of my videos from my server anywhere I am and the quality is fantastic.

Loving Plex. I love Plex and it has given the chance to explore all the media I had but was previously buried in stacks of CDs and DVDs. Bought a lifetime pass years ago,so glad I did. Having said that, the current iOS app and Plex server have some seriously annoying “features”. Selecting repeat a track in the iOS app will sometimes repeat it, but more often than not, it doesn’t and stops playing anything else afterwards, meaning you have to restart the play queue. It mixes together playing several tracks at once. This does not happen on the web app. Playlists on the Plex server sometimes get wiped out. The playlist name is still there, just nothing in it. When you have hundreds of items in the playlist, it’s impossible to recreate. These items have been posted to the Plex forum and others have the same issue, Plex haven’t addressed them.

Works and works well. Best solution to cataloging and playing media across many platforms there is. With a premium subscription and PlexCloud, one can watch videos from just about anywhere you can get a decent connection. While the interface does take some time to get used to, and the Plex folks insist on changing it all the time, it functions well and actually manages watching or listening for you in a very helpful way, including remembering what you have seen or heard, and continuing in the right places when you come back to something in progress. And the Plex people are quick to address bugs and issues, and listen to suggestions for improvements. Just finished a trip to Italy and Germany, and had access to my media the whole time. In addition, Plex’s database of images, sounds, titles, and cover art make the interface beautiful and helpful. The lifetime PLEX subscription was the best decision for me. And no, I do not work for the company, and they did not pay me to say this. Just very pleased with how well this software works.

Excellent App with exception of downloads. As the title suggests this is an excellent app for managing all of your multimedia! I use it across multiple platforms daily. Everything works flawlessly unless you happen to be in an area without service then you must rely on the download feature. This is a newer service which replaced the old sync feature and unfortunately is flawed and does not work well or at all for larger media files. Often times I will have some files that download properly then at the worst time possible time they delete themselves and try to download again! Very frustrating to say the least. So as long as you don’t have a need to view/listen to your media offline ( like on a plane or while traveling) you won’t be disappointed with this app and the plex services.

A Fan's Lament. This used to be a decent product, but recently it's become practically unusable. From frequent crashes to downgraded features, the app is no longer one I think I can use and after so many years satisfied with the server-side client that I may now need to replace. About the only new "feature" introduced that kept me around even this long was the ability to skip credits, but without being able to download and play the files on my local device (to avoid using cellular data when between wireless networks on my daily commute) without it crashing when downloading, crash when playing, playing multiple files at once, then crashing, needing frequent restarts from freezes, and have less control over how to download things in the first place compared to past versions I enjoyed without issue. I don't know what happened for quality control, but someone should be fired for gross incompetence for pushing out a now broken product that can't do the thing it's most used for; accessing your library both on & offline without headache.

Despite glitches, still the best there is UPDATE. I'm a lifetime PlexPass member; I use Plex's various incarnations across tons of devices. Yes, every now and again something goes awry, but to paraphrase Louis CK, "You try building it and making it perfect all the time!" It works 99.9% of the time for 99.9% of everything. Having worked in software development, I can understand how impossible it is to foresee every possible iteration and challenge, but Plex is incredibly stable and reliable. UPDATE: The app is basically broken on iOS 12/iPhone X. Anytime I’m in portrait mode, the close/minimize controls are not accessible, which makes it impossible to send content via Chromecast. Even when in landscape mode, the controls seem barely functional. This has been the case ever since I upgraded to iOS 12, and is extremely frustrating.

Improved accessibility. I love plex! It has had some accessibility problems, but I can see the team is working to make it more accessible, specifically in regards to voiceover. One part that still needs to be worked out in regards to accessibility with voiceover is within the player screen. If you open a video to watch, the player controls disappear after a few seconds. On most players I can just put the Focus on the playing video and tap to bring them back up. For some reason though on plex, you have to turn off voiceover tap the video, and then quickly turn it back on and try tapping play, pause, fast forward or whatever action you are trying to get to. Besides getting stuck within the player screen, this is still one of my favorite app’s to watch TV with the family.

Good ideas with bad development. This app can be great when it works and when they aren’t removing features that have been there for years. Several versions have seen end of life support with many bugs still remaining. You used to be able to swipe left or right between songs when listening and now you have to hit an actual button to skip a song, why remove a feature that wasn’t broken? I have a lifetime subscription and the developers are an absolute joke. Literally each new update breaks something else and their support structure is nonexistent. Smart playlists are broken when locally synced to devices and have been for awhile. Alternate artwork that has been changed and locked can revert back automatically even when locked just by playing that content. Forum mods say this won’t happen and yet it does bringing me back to their terrible support structure. It’s time consuming to deal with the many bugs that exist and continue to show up with each release. There are problems that were reported by multiple people in 2015 for example and the issue remains, five years later. I bought a lifetime subscription and wish it had the support it deserves because it definitely doesn’t.

Download doesn’t work. Plex used to be a great product. The downward slide in quality and programming is becoming increasingly frustrating and has started me looking for a new product. First the app immediately crashes when you launch the app. So you have to launch it twice just open. (I have removed and reinstalled the app several time to make sure it wasn’t just a glitch with an update.) Second, you take away the Sync function and replace it with Download. You state “Download works how you always wanted Sync to work.” So if that is the case why didn’t you just remove the functionality? The download function in the app never actually downloads a single thing! I have tried to download an entire season. To the extreme that I left the app running in the foreground with the screen lock off for 3 days, it still didn’t download the first byte of data. (With the little circle running around the bars.) This was after repeated attempts to download with it running in the background like you used to be able to do. So, figured okay I’ll try just downloading an individual episode and nurse it through the weekend, still have not successfully got a single byte of data. You have managed to take a product with excellent potential and run into the ground.

Great App. Love this app. It has what I need for using my data and getting it anywhere. I don't understand the need to have a Plex pass I don't use this feature as it is not needed. I do think however that the Plex makers or any app or program designers should ever withhold the ability to have parental control. This feature is a security feature to make sure no children ever get what they should have and should be a default item in any app. When this becomes a standard non plex pass feature Ill give 5 stars. Its just the right thing to do. Beyond that all features are great app works like a charm. I took another star for not having the ability to have plex find all my movies. Vob and a few other standard movie types when ripped Plex did not find and i have to now convert 400+ films to a mode plex will use. Silliness. It should at least do what XBMC already does. As Most that use plex also use xbmc for hone use since the XBMC interface is better for home use and streaming plex is best for. Ill return that star when it does other formats also.

Missing my easy access across the bottom.... I love Plex. It’s always been great (with jinks here and there). But the last major update to the app took away my menu across the bottom and replaced it with a side menu that I can only access when I’m on the home screen. Here’s an example of why this is so annoying: I primary use the Plex App on iOS for music. So if I go to an artist > album > track. Then from there decide to go back to the artist > similar artist > new artist > album > track, and then decide to hit the search button > search another artist > choose album> track, then decide actually I want a different song, so hit search > track name and then decide, I wanna go back to the main Music menu, I can’t just hit Music. I have to navigate back > back > back x 100 until I finally see the hamburger menu on the left and can select Music. That’s incredibly annoying. Before it was easy to just hit Music at the bottom and go back to where I started without issue. If anything let me access the main menu without having to go back...

Local server connections. I have always had trouble with the iOS versions of this app, even though I’m only connecting to a local server. The app on my Roku has no difficulty connecting to the same server. It is extremely frustrating. I am now completely unable to connect to the server from my iPad, despite having tried logging out and back into the app, logging out and using a wait list of local network connection, deleting the app and re-downloading it, deleting all three instances of the iPad app from my list of allowed devices in my account, etc. For some inexplicable reason, my Plex account has now decided that my iPad app is also a server, so some of the other client apps now list two entries for my iPad as servers. Also, when my home Internet isn’t working and I can’t go online, even though my Plex server is on the same local network/router as Plex app on my phone, iPad, and TV, none of them are able to access the server. They all say that the server is unavailable. My SMB file sharing on the same Mac at the Plex server works fine, so it’s not a problem with my local network. I would think that playing files in Plex over the local network would not be affected by an Internet outage… I’ve had so many problems with the iOS apps that I don’t see how the people at Plex hope to entice me to purchase a subscription when I can’t even really use the features that a subscription affords. The app is nice when it works, but far too often it doesn’t really work.

This app would be a good one, IF only..... The Plex app is pretty great, IF I only wanted to watch movies on my iPhone 11. It will NOT connect to my LG tv nor will it screen share 100% of the time. In fact, I can get it to screen share maybe once in 10 times that I try. I can open the app, start screen sharing, and if for some reason I have to close the app or stop screen sharing, it completely stops working and I get a black screen when I try to start screen sharing again. As far as casting to the tv goes, forget it. That isn’t even an option with this app from my iPhone 11. I have tried numerous ways to fix the problem, but so far no luck. I don’t have time to figure the problem out either. For me, when I sit down to try and watch something, I want to be able to see it on my tv with ZERO issues because I almost never have time to actually sit down to watch tv. This app just does not work for me in this regard so its basically useless.

Please fix the Apple TV app. I decided to jump-in and get the tv tuners to take more advantage of my Plex server along with the Plex premium subscription. Now let’s start with the 5 stars and take away one star for each issue below. As they get fixed I’ll add a star. I’m struggling with the Apple TV app. The guide doesn’t jump to the current date and time. Ie. if I open the guide at 2pm. Then later I open the guide up at 7pm it will still show the 2pm guide but it’s all grey out. I wait a few moments for it to refresh to the current time but no good. I have to right scroll to the current time multiple times until I find the current time. Then I can select programs/Channel to watch. Also, when I select a recorded show. It spins and spins and spins then errors out. If I open the same show on my phone and stream it so it works, then I can go to the Apple TV and stream the show. I don’t know why it’s doing this. Why does it take forever to scan through all the photos? I would think it would generate thumbnails for all the photos so I can surf through them quickly, not have it take 20 seconds to refresh the 5 photos on the screen, then I scroll to the next group of photos and have to wait another 20 seconds for those photos to refresh. I get spoiled by the apple photos app. Make it work like that.

Updates Bring Confusion with Interface and Bugs. Update: This has been long time coming. Out of nowhere Plex decided to update the UI and it is absolutely awful! It is difficult to navigate and looks bad. My kids can't find things as easily as they used to. My wife prefers every other streaming app over this, but only since the update. The update isn't 'new' anymore, but each time I open the app I long for the old interface. Additionally, they have introduced a new issue with offline content that happen a regularly. I take long flights for business and rely on Plex for my media to gete through. For whatever reason, when I'm in either airplane mode or connected to WiFi but have no internet connection, the app cannot see my sync'd data. It is infuriating to be stuck on a long haul flight and not be able to access data that is stored on the phone! I learned, after hours of boredom, quickly loading different libraries and the app eventually figures out it can read the data that is already there. It happens on my phone and iPad. Very frustrating. Fix the bugs. Rework the horrible interface. This app used to be great. Old review: Has a few glitches but the developers regularly update the application with feature enhancements and bug fixes. Easily worth $5.

Solid three stars. Good app, but I use it mainly on my Apple TV 4K with all the updated software, including updated Plex servers. The main problem I have are the subtitles that are grabbed from the net are horribly unstable. Whichever one you choose they show for a short time then disappear. You have to either close the app and open it again, hit BACK on the Apple TV control, or head to the subtitles section and choose the subtitles AGAIN for it to work. But, then it disappears after a few seconds again. This app has been updated MANY times but the developer STILL hasn't fixed this issue. My recommendation, download the subtitles from the net ahead of time and toss them in the same folder your movie is located and then they should work. I have noticed that they remain on the screen when the subtitles are in the same folder and selected that way.

Plex always rm -rf * all my downloaded content while on travel for no reason. Plex Pass supporter and the app was up to date and just power cycled my iPad and Plex decided to arbitrary just delete all my download files while on travel away from my Plex server. The most basics of features they can’t seem to get right this has affected Plex for years. Failure to listen to the community that has supported them and properly test their builds. Don’t really blame the developers obviously not on the radar of their management. This must be the tenth time this has happened iOS and seems to be ignored. As others have noted don’t seem to meet the give a crap factor at plex more of trying to integrate ada laced content I get it as I own a business money maker. I’d seriously consider asking for a refund for my lifetime plex pass based on how awful the download experience has been the developers are pretty crappy and can’t figure out the most basic of things sync sync sync. Just make sure you don’t give the app permissions to photos based on experience it will delete all your photos randomly when not in your home network.

The worst software in existence.. No other program for any computer of any kind has more than 1% of the bugs afflicting Plex. I was a premium user for one month and one month only; though it was only $5, I resent it deeply. I joined the premium in order to transfer files; I tried to transfer a file; three days later, it was not yet 50% transferred, so I canceled and transferred it via OneDrive; it took 27 seconds. This is ALL due to the Plex developers’ monumental stupidity, changing the files’ formats rather than just making their software read multiple formats. Those who praise Plex have failed a rudimentary intelligence test; you could upload your files and play them in VLC or similar software in less than 1% of the time, with less than 1% of the hassle. In addition, there’s the insane fact that the apps have no button to update a library. Add a video, wait six hours (if you’re lucky), and it will appear in your library. You cannot manually do this. MANY people have complained about this design flaw on Plex’s forums; official responses have LIED and claimed that no one has raised the issue previously, when in fact there are a dozen threads stretching back years. All in all, if you’re using Plex, stop and find a better program, which is ALL OF THEM.

Great App! But What is With The Issues?. I have been a PlexPass member for years now and I couldn’t be happier. However, lately playback has been terrible. For example, if I shuffle anything a CD, a playlist, my library whatever I get this weird issue where two songs will just start playing at once. To fix it I usually have to stop the track(s) and either skip back a track or skip forward. Then one of the two songs will play properly. In addition, sometimes when I go to play a song in a playlist or CD (anything with multiple tracks) sometimes the track will not play. It will instead skip right to the next song and no matter what I do it will not play. The track is fine though because I can play it by accessing the file directly (not through Plex). Lastly, ever since this offline browsing thing was introduced it has been glitchy. If I want to access my files on my server I usually have to toggle it on and off a few times before my library will show up. It works the same for if I want to access tracks synced on my phone too. Love the thought of being able to toggle, but has to be a better way. What ever happened to just clicking in the upper left corner?

Doesn't work as well as it used to. I love Plex, but it seems to be getting less stable. The iOS app especially has been way more glitchy than it used to be, but the desktop stuff, both server and player, isn't running as smoothly anymore either. My hardware is all a bit dated, but it should still be plenty adequate. On my 4th gen iPad, the Plex app crashes frequently and the video often stutters and its been getting progressively worse. I think some of the more recent updates helped some with the crashing, but the stutters have gotten worse. I would prefer to not transcode files for playback as my Plex server is running on my primary computer and I don't want to tie up the resources and it doesn't solve all the issues anyway. VLC for iOS handles the files better, so I use that when Plex fails me, but Plex has the far superior browsing interface. VLC plays more smoothly, only rarely stuttering under very heavy network or drive activity, has better audio boost functionality, etc.

Plex is the best. The first time I downloaded the Plex app I was able to create a free account no problems with it whatsoever, and the cool thing about Plex, is that I can watch live TV channels, such as ElectricNow, and dark matter TV, and many others, I also have Plex on my Roku, and I also lots of movies on Plex as well, but one problem I’m visually impaired and whenever I go to look for a channel but I am I watch Plex on my iPad and on my iPod touch, whenever I swipe for channels or to listen to the name of the channels, it only says the name of the TV show or movie that’s on, so if you could fix that feature that would be great, and another thing too, I would love to cast plugs to my Roku express, and my Roku premier, and whenever I go to choose a device to airplay or cast to for some reason it won’t let me cast so please fix that in and that would be great, love Plex I get Plex five stars, so to the developer of Plex love the app keep bringing new features and new updates, and keep expanding

App free when you get Plex pass - WORTH IT! Best media server and app to pull plug. I purchased the lifetime Plex Pass. The best a/v decision I’ve made. I wish the sync process was easier for offline listening and watching FOR MY KIDS but for me it allows for granular control of kbps rate per song. Interface for me as a technologist is very much self driving and in-play. I think i paid around a bill for the lifetime Plex pass a few years ago and it’s more than paid for itself. The app is free for Plex pass subscribers (monthly yearly or lifetime pass) but even for those who don’t do pass the cost of you have access to a Plex media server with a decent sized media dB is worth the cost to get all the extras. We added a couple of homerun boxes and killed cable which is saving us almost a bill / 100 Per month alone so Plex has been incredible for us at home and at the office and when on the road.

Still Lacking Basic Functionality. Plex is great for movies and music! Has many features you either won’t use or will use and be pleased you found them; the experience however is poor if your looking to Plex to organize and browse your photo collection; unlike the web client ; the iOS and iPadOS and TvOS has no photo slide show feature! If you have hundreds of photos you’ll need to manually swipe (thumbnail scroll view at bottom) them one by one to show off or find them. Don’t waste your time adding your photo library to this server; it’s an exercise in frustration and disappointment. This has been an AppleTV/iOs feature request for years. They keep adding Plex hosted content and the mac z as a nd windows media servers are very reliable. the player client on ios continues to be reliable but their focus seems to be sliding away from personal media sharing to becoming an alternative streaming service (ad driven) in their own right.

WHY? PLEX, WHY??? This Update is COUNTER-INTUITIVE. For iOS Plex Media Player App, I haven't check my computer or TV Plex Apps yet::: I truly hate writing update reviews… So let me start by stating, the Plex Media Server and it's organization magniloquence is unmatched for personal media organization and management! HOWEVER, Plex, why did you remove the "Browse" feature??? I'm sure many geeks like me are super organized when it comes to our media library. I like to go to my playlist section or browse through what libraries I've added to see what I'd like to view or what playlist I have available to watch. I have at least 3TB of vids, cartoons, anime, movies and tv shows all organized within your brilliant Plex Server... Now!!!, I can't just go to a section I'd like to browse through, as it was before the update. Podcasts are not as important, everybody does podcasts. Plex is supposed to be for the personal/private media lover who simply wants to watch what is esoteric to them and watch anywhere at anytime without having to go through leaps and bounds to reach his/her favorite playlists... Please RE-ADD the browse feature. It was THE BEST. Now, Plex for iOS is a hassle. Please help, thank you so much!!! Otherwise PLEX is truly awesome! ~ A Loyal PAYING customer!

You need to do better on your app. The update to the new logo in august of 2022 deleted ALL my offline content! 😡 How is this acceptable? How come you didn’t test it? Why is the app constantly crashing in the background with the new update? You’re support forums are a joke, I want to report an issue to you directly and can’t. And the the last time I used your forums I was told to repost it because it wasn’t in the correct folder. That’s your job not mine! 😳 If you don’t like where it’s at then you move it. I’m not your IT support or paid by you to redo anything. I reach out for support and need support not to be told I’m posting on the wrong page. So why isn’t there support in the app? I wrote this review for Plex to see and show users what a frustrating support system they have. I love versatility of Plex but not their support. No support for this app their forums are a joke and keep taking away features like “pause downloading” and won’t implement a directory based playlist creator. I’ve been on their site to complain about these things and always met with “you need to move this thread”, that’s not my job! It’s yours I go there for support not to be talked down to and patronized when I have an issue!

Best Media Server. I've been using Plex as a Media Server and iOS app for over 5 years now. Both the server and app complements each other and very easy to use. The app has features such as sync which allows you to watch movies or TV shows on your local device without needing internet access. You can configure sync to auto download any number of unwatched episodes for a TV Series. So let's say for you have Season 5 of TV show '24' for 4 unwatched episodes synced and your iPad has Eps 8-11 downloaded. You can be on an airplane and watch Eps 8 & 9. You get to your hotel and sync up again. The app will delete Eps 8-9 since they were watched and download Eps 12 & 13 since they are the next unwatched Eps. So this configuration will keep a rotating 4 unwatched episodes of '24' on your local device. The app also displays metadata (Title, Year, recap, actors, directors, posters, etc.) of the movies or TV Shows.

Really does seem like magic, but no composer tag. I installed Plex on my PC and iPhone for a while because I found other ways to stream music from my hard drive to be unreliable or complicated. You install Plex and it quickly finds all media files on your computer - no need to direct it to folders. All the music on my drive appears on my iPhone with tags intact. All album covers are shown, and each artist now has a helpful little bio. This is all with absolutely no effort on my part. Streaming on a wifi network from the computer to the phone, and from the phone to the stereo using Airplay, always works without a hitch. The user interface is attractive, powerful, well-organized, and easy to use. Everything happens smoothly and promptly - no pauses or glitches. The problem is with classical music: there is no composer tag available! I switched to MediaMonkey.

Update is lacking...again. I usually don't leave feedback regarding updates, but I must in this case... I'm a big fan of Plex, and mainly use it on Roku and IPad. I am extremely disappointed that the watch later feature was discontinued recently AGAIN which I used everyday! It was helpful to browse tv plugins on the iPad and add episodes to watch later......to then watch later on the roku....since the roku has NEVER had this feature since Plex was born. Please bring back the watch later feature asap, and please add this feature to Roku too! Also, I am happy with the new podcasts feature but would love a listen later feature for that too! I do not like the webisodes feature and don’t care to see it but there is no way to remove it? Still need tweaking with customization options. Plex is fantastic overall, but I'm giving 3 stars this time, because an update should not keep subtracting from the user enjoyment. Common sense says make things more user customizable, so people can choose what they want to keep and get rid of what they don’t want to see....and with as few clicks as possible too! Please fix what is lacking now, but once was there to enjoy.....for the 2nd time!!!

Needs some TLC. I love Plex but the iOS app can use some more attention. I don’t allow my server to be exposed externally so I use the offline sync feature for when I’m away. Now, whenever I open the app it will start in offline mode like I left it before (I can see the big red banner) but it will attempt to connect to my server still. I’ll pick from the list of sources in the top left corner but it only shows my server as an option and it’s offline. To get around this, you have to open preferences and click the offline toggle 2 or 3 times usually before you can access your offline content. Another issue is that it frequently crashes when I pause the music with my headphones, I’ll unlock it and have to relaunch the app. It’s a good app, but not a great experience. I’ll be happy to rate it higher if the first issue will get fixed. EDIT: new update, unfortunately worse in performance. Same issues stated above but now includes that for whatever reason if I pause my offline music or get a phone call, then go back to resume, the music just stops playing. Sometimes the scrubbing bar moves as if it is, sometimes not. But hitting the play/pause buttons don’t do anything so I must kill the song and play a different one. I really love Plex but this app is going downhill.

I’ll give it 5 stars when …. You make it easier for users - mobile or monitor- to select movies from a specific year. Right now I have to go to library, sort by year, down arrow, and keep scrolling. I have to keep scrolling until I get to the year (let’s say if the movie is released in 2002) and if I have a large collection to scroll through, this can be a hassle. Please make it easier to view through BUNDLE YEARS in library. Also, let’s say I did want to want a movie from the year 2002. If I have 50 movies in my collection in this year, and I select one to dive deeper to see details about the movie…if I don’t like it and hit back, it brings me ALL the way up the top again. Does that make sense? When selecting a movie to view details about, if you were to go back to view your entire catalog it should haven’t to bring you all the way up top of the catalog. It should remember where you are looking and stay there. Fix these issues on both mobile, computers, and TV please. This app is great and I commend you on your great work.

Would have been a 5 before. I spent a lot of time organizing my library and now it’s frustrating as all get out to get to my content. Please add an ALL option and not just an All for TV, Movies and Music. Plex just became unusable for me. I’ve been using Plex from almost the beginning back when it was Mac only. I was one of the first people to sign up for a lifetime pass. Please don’t make me regret this. I don’t want to use a different client to view my content but it looks like I’m going to need to until they fix this problem. I’m really not happy that they didn’t give us a toggle to the old format or at least a way to view ALL content and then switch to folders. [If you’re in the same boat, please consider checking out Infuse 5. It seems to work seamlessly with Plex Server and keeps it in folder layout. You’ll also be able to add Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive. I’ve been recommending Plex & Plex Server for years. I never thought I’d be suggesting folks use a different client, in a Plex app review no less!]

Regret purchase. We purchased the lifetime pass and for the last year and thought Plex was great. The recent tornados here in Kentucky took out our power and internet. So we are running on generators to power items and intended to power the tv, to allow all the children to be entertained that are in our shelters. The Plex app on the tv, failed us terribly. With no internet, the Plex is useless. We can find the sever, and even see the children shows, but everything fails to play, and or starts to load then crash. Our entire community feels let down by Plex, and I’ll have to figure out other solutions going forward. Our entire city has now seen the failure of Plex, and how useless it is. Keep this in mind should you ever find yourself in this situation. Our temporary solution was to hook up a laptop and connect to the synology server manually, then search through the folders to play in media center to the overhead projector. Plex has let us down severely.

iOS app is not well designed. I have owned Plex for about 4-5 years now, and the media server is great. It’s very easy to set up and manage. The iOS app, however, is not very good. As an example, it does not sync music very well. I had all my music synced to my phone; then one day it was all gone. No error message or notification of what had happened. 5000 songs were deleted off my phone. Syncing has been problematic since day one. The other problem is with the UI. The buttons are tiny, even on an iPhone XS. They tried to cram too much on the screen and made the play and pause buttons so small I have to have my glasses on to see them. Since it doesn’t integrate with Siri well, I have to pull over if I want to search for songs while I’m driving. Playlists also don’t sync between devices so I have to set up new lists on each one. In my opinion, the whole app needs a complete redesign. I’ve tried to make it work, but I’m going to be looking for another app to use to play my music on my phone.

Just awful, complete garbage. Just don't bother. No support available. Show titles don't load most of the time, rarely plays from guide for streaming, have to delete cache AND data just to get it to barely function, support forum full of extremely poor assistance, WON'T EVER LET ME LOGIN, 3 Months now, won't let me view anything without asking me to login, so WHY WOULD YOU BOTHER WITH THIS APP. So many other issues. Playback poor, freezing, screen locks up, etc. AND THEY WANT USERS TODO ALL THE DEBUGGING AND LOG IT ON THE FORUM. ( Instead of just enjoying a show like you want!!! You don't pay us!!! )Sounds like you need to chuck it and start over, but you can get almost if not every channel they offer on another app that works flawlessly EVERY TIME? YOU WOULDN'T! Don't bother. Doesn't work on smart TVs, doesn't let you log in, NO REAL CUSTOMER SUPPORT, no new shows or movies. Basically just another attempt to capitalize on the free tv market. Had you just had customer support this junk app might have been working properly after several months. Again, just don't bother with this app, plenty more working apps that have the same shows. Update;. Broken even more now. Just a CRAPAPP

Plex is the beat. I love Plex for it’s beautiful organization and easy to use interface. Having almost all my media in one place has always been the dream and Plex has done that for me (for about 80% - still missing native audiobook support and support for eBooks). Having full control of my own personal media cloud and server has been incredible. The movie and show ratings from Rotten Tomato are awesome and being able to watch a trailer of something is convenient if someone wants a quick synopsis. I love being able to put all our childhood videos converted from VHS on my own cloud and give access to my family to see any of the embarrassing and amazing home videos anytime. ***DEVS: Would love to see a audio only version for Apple Watch for streaming or offline usage to listen to podcasts, music, audiobooks - Audible does this now which has been amazing. Being able to listen to Plex media with only a watch and bluetooth headphones would be a game changer. Also native audiobook support and support for eBooks would basically round out any media needs I could possible want to have in one app! Love what the Plex teams does and always looking to see what they’ve recently added. More than happy to be a part of the Plex Pass Lifetime member. Keep up the amazing work!

Great, but glitchy and doesn’t offer what they advertise. Mostly great and probably the best option for home media server out there unless you have time and knowledge to build one from scratch. However, it doesn’t provide simple “download” function for Photo Libraries. Yes, it can do the “Sync” which often fails and really slow no matter what connection you have, but you can’t “download” or “save” without any post-processing on the original files. Another issue is that some glitches. The player has a playback controller at the bottom of the screen, of course, which unnecessarily widened horizontally in the landscape mode. This can easily fixed by switching to portrait orientation and switch it back again to landscape, but VERY annoying. this didn’t used to exist before. Furthermore, when you go back to the library from the video player, the size and the layout of the tiles of contents are messed up probably due to the orientation changes. PiP (picture-in-picture) has its own issue as well. Playing videos in Photo Libraries does trigger the PiP upon getting out PLEX, but does not play the video in the window! The window only shows gray background with a spinning wheel. Developers at PLEX should focus on fixing the existing glitches users are reporting instead of implementing new features.

Great app but dont expect it to keep working well.. Im writing this review on sept 23, 2020. The app has change quite a bit from when it was first released. The organizational changes have been bad here and there but it still did everything quickly. That is no longer the case. I have multiple 4k apple tv boxes and they all are experiancing performance issues after the last couple of updates. Laggy, slow, unresponsive interface which require a reboot to fix. I have never had to reboot my apple tvs with such regularity. In the past i have been able to wait weeks or months before intentionally rebooting one. (I have automatic updates off... so no other reboots barring poweroutages etc.). I recommended apple tvs for their solid performance with plex but it seems that is one more thing they have abandoned in the pursuit of having animated startup logos and other foo foo nonsense. They just seem to want to add new features no one wants while detracting from the features everyone needs.

Almost perfect!. For me, the Plex app is almost perfect. I am currently on a 30-day trial and I already know what crucial annoyances are going to stop me from going full (or even lifetime) subscriber. 1. Their WebOS app is way behind the rest. For TV, you cannot use the guide, which makes the normal TV viewing pretty much impossible. 2. Argh! The track list unavailability in FLAC. Brings back the memories when you had to fast forward a cassette tape to find your next track on the album, or go ahead and listen to the entire album. No easy way to go to a particular song (or even see it, as you will be just looking at the album), 3. Problems with remote access cutting out in 2-3 seconds after enabling. It is super buggy and no amount of their troubleshooting worked for me. These three issues are critical enough to dissuade me from upgrading and will be sticking with free version for now. I know there are lots of people who want to make Plex their primary DVR/TV viewing app but can’t for the above mentioned (1) reason. I know there are lot of audiophiles who wish to have Plex as their primary player/server but for the above mentioned reason (2) they just can’t. I really hope devs take a note and address these crucial issues. I don’t know what else in this platform needs more urgent attention from the feature point of view - it has all the bells and whistles.

My BEST APP EVER. I Was looking for a means to view my video library and found Plex to my liking. I can set up my library to watch movies as if I were back in the old days where Saturdays was an outing to go to the marquee at 12 noon to watch previews, three cartoons, the news reel, and two two movies . That took up five hours in the old days at the RKO THEATER. I can now reproduce that wonderful experience and go to the head without missing the story by hitting the pause button. The developers deserve a great praise for their hard work. Update December 2019 I now have over 3000 movies ; TV, AND home movies in my plex library, I also have over 4000 music files and 8000 personal photos that I scanned in from old album books and pictures lying around in trunks , paper bags and boxes. At any time I can access any photo, or video in seconds to show friends and family. What is nice about plex is you can consolidate your entire visual LP records old tapes and 45 rpm records and auditoria history in one app. I have my plex on a WESTERN DIGITAL 10 Terabyte pr2100 NAS DRIVE using RAID 2 so that I will always have a back up in case something goes wrong. I also backup my plex library to a separate 10 TB drive unplugged and stored in another place. My kids and grandkids can always review our family history at any time. And by the way! They can down load videos and pictures to their phones from plex to show their friends or watch them on the plane when they travel. Great App.

UI update makes content harder to find and the app harder for kids. The new UI is much harder to navigate than previous versions. In addition to just taking more effort to go to specific collections and servers, it’s nearly impossible for kids to use. Where previously my 6 year old could easily find her things, now the UI is completely useless to her. As an adult, it’s cumbersome and clunky, and as a kid, it’s broken. Stay close to your roots here. Make it easy to quickly navigate to specific collections on a specific server. Put some movie icons on collections to make them visually distinctive to require less reading. Make pushed content a browsing experience that one chooses to experience rather than the default. Don’t make this more complicated.

It mostly ok. Needs better Chromecast and subtitle support. Use extensively for casting media from a local Plex Media Server to a Google Chromecast. Ironically that seems to the Plex app’s weak spot. It you pause a show and come back after some time, Plex can’t or won’t communicate with the Chromecast, even though it will either display on the TV the show or the Plex “ready to cast” screen. I have to close the playing show and then (optionally browse to the show) hit play on the episode from the season list. I’ve also notice sometimes it can’t find the Chromecast, yet it shows up on other iOS devices. Sometimes it will claim to be casting, but the chrome cast doesn’t receive/process requests from the Plex app Why can’t I use the Plex app to fetch a new subtitle file. Say from OpenSubtitles or similar? Have a look at Infuse app and see how useful it is.

A great all. Recommend!. I love Plex. It’s incredibly convenient and easy to use, I don’t have to take a hard drive with me. I can just store all my media on a home computer which acts as my base and I have access to my media anywhere any time on any of my devices. I can also share this with friends and family. It works just as well when overseas! I haven’t used the podcast or news features but they look as equally easy to use. Great support articles on their website, but I haven’t had any issues so far. Would definitely recommend.

Really good. Like the new streaming service show streaming service show tracking feature. Feature suggestion. Allow users to select services in other regions alongside their own (and adjust for timezone)

Getting Worse. It used to fantastic, but now even basic functionality is becoming more and more useless. Keeps buffering when the home server is working fine, with no bottle necks to speak of. New update doesn’t have volume control or ability to load or unload subtitles Going from strength to strength in the wrong direction

I love Plex.. What you get for free with this app is it be million times more than you get with anything even close to this one incredible program. I don’t need any of the “pro” features. But I would happily give them money for what I get now.

Plex client app. Brings together all your digital media together. Does require the server to run on a desktop computer. But gives you great interface to view your media through. With a Plex pass you can also sync media to your device for offline viewing.

Great but need downloaded section. I use this app on my iPad mini and it’s great but I have to drill down thru each section to play my synced downloads. Would be great if there was a button on the home page that shows a list of all my downloaded shows. Much like what Netflix app has on their UI.

The best app in the App Store. You found it, this is it. Plex is the best app in the App Store. It does everything you could want with your media, and it does it perfectly. Every. Single. Time. Organise, watch, stream, convert, share. All of it, in every way possible, on any device. This is the app to die for. This is the best app. Ever.

Almost perfect. With a large music collection I was looking for something other than iTunes. After a bit of research I decided to try Plex. It took a while to appreciate its powers and features but now 6 months in I am a huge fan. There are a few issues I still have to use iTunes for, like adding To or editing synced playlists but I’m sure these will be addressed in future updates. I love its music management system. If they would just fix the IOS synced playlist issue I’d say this is perfect

Plex is fantastic. I have been using plex for over 4 years, I have chromcast on all the tvs in my house and cast nearly every thing via plex, I’d use this program once a day and I love it more than any app I’ve ever had. When I’ve had problems, I’ve notched that some file types like direct play and/or direct stream on and some have it off. I share my plex server with family all over australia and they also love it.

June 2018 update ruined the interface. Plex used to display all of my different content folders on one simple, elegant home screen (I have 10). Now I have to select the Medea type from the bottom bar, then choose which folder from a drop down in the top bar to then look through my preferred folder. Extremely clunky and unintuitive and a massive step backwards. No idea why this was viewed as a positive step by the plex devs. So disappointed. The app is kind of ruined now.

Secure Server Required. As an internet facing Plex server, I require Secure Server to be enabled, but for the life of me I can’t get the iPhone or iPad to connect via the app. Instead I have to use safari and login that way. As a lifetime member, unless I’m missing something fundamental, this app can’t receive anything higher than 1 Star. Self managed 40TB FreeNAS server, installed via Jail. Plex version 4.12.3 iPhone version 7.6.2

Only 1 day so far so 🤷🏻‍♂️. What really pisses me off, so I get these promo emails & Botten when you try unsub it states oops something went wrong or can’t match url with users name & email. Why? Opps something went wrong when you started spamming my email with promo. And how can ops something go wrong when trying to unsubscribe directly from a link that you emailed to me. How can something go wrong. I bet if I was trying to sub, pay or opt in nothing would go wrong!!! 🤬

Used to be great. I’m not sure what’s going on. Of late there are kids and loads of updates and it just seems to be getting worse. Local server playback is failing more and more. I used to love this but if the free can’t play properly any more why would I go premium? Sad to see. I have now been using Plex for over 10yrs.

Excellent - love to use to play across multiple devices. Great app. It’s well built. Only slight issues are 1. Some unnecessary comfirmation prompts. 2. Ocassional stability issues. 3. Need to change a few of the default settings. This app shows serious promise and is the best I’ve seen in the media sharing space. Even though it needs a little work I rated it 5/5 for being the best in the market by far.

Plex is awesome and always has been!. Just read a poor 1star review from someone complaining they have a powerful pc and are having long standing issues w/ plex (slow load times, connection faults, etc). I’ve been running plex for a couple of years now and have several friends stream from me remotely (simultaneously) flawlessly. The server-side can take some configuring and troubleshooting, but plex is absolutely capable of all the hype you hear about it.

Get it now. Plex is an outstanding app that has changed the way we watch our digital media. The Plex pass makes managing things across mobile devices transparent and effortless. It took a while to get everything all labelled correctly, but once that was done it’s magic. Love it.

Better than the competition.. Been using Kodi since XBMC went live. Swapped to Plex a few years ago once I got sick of 3D movies and ran it locally first until internet speeds allowed better streaming. Lifetime member now and besides the odd issue over the years it’s developed into a very nice streaming server. Built a 32 core Intel Xeon server just for this and have family and friends throughout Australia using it now. Love it.

Promises so much, fails to support paid users. Been an avid user for awhile and opted for lifetime membership with promise of ongoing support and improvements. Some things work really well, but there are some frustrating basic issues and missing features, and the Plex development team seems to be focusing on stupid features that no one wants (news/tidal/podcasts/vr) instead of getting existing promises right. Pleas for help in support forum are ignored.

Update worked! Excellent app. Thanks Plex. Latest app update has fixed problems with iPhone 14 pro connecting to plex server. All apps work like a charm now, and Plex remains my most used app - for connecting PC, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV to access movies, tv, music and audiobooks (via prologue). Excellent app overall - thanks for the update.

Plex Pass user. Not worth using anymore, they’ve started pushing client updates for AppleTV, Roku etc that stop it connecting to older servers. The newer versions of the software no longer work on older OSes so that old laptop/Mac mini/pc in the corner that you recycled won’t actually work after the “upgrade”.. Support is basically non existent, you have to post to the forum and the so called staff member just reply with, “you need to upgrade”... which if you are any sort of basic user you already know this and they refuse to help further with a “not out problem” reply. If you keep making an issue they close the tickets and hide them so other users cannot see them.

Useful features programmed out and constant crashing. I used to love Plex but in the last month or so it has lost a lot of its appeal and usability. The great feature of seeing if a file had been previously played from the colour of the play icon in the folder list has been removed so that now you have to go into the files info to see if it has been “watched” this is relatively minor but still quite annoying. My bigger problem is that it appears that with the latest update if I try to scroll down in the Folder view when browsing videos, the app crashes meaning that I cannot get to the file I want to watch if it does not come up in one of the “Discover” lists (yes I have updated the server to the latest version) Very disappointed with this app and how it seems to be getting less user friendly.

Perfect organisation for media. I am a life time member and I can say without a doubt Plex has been amazing. Not always perfect but with over 2000 movies and 100 tv shows, pleas keeps my media well organised for our family. I love how you can set up restricted accounts for younger members of the family to keep the higher rating media away from their prying eye. Would highly recommend Plex for all your media needs.

Used to be great. Plex used to be a great app/service. However in its current form I couldn’t recommend it to anyone. Ever since the new download feature was released, downloads have become more and more unreliable to the point where now they’re unusable. Another issue is playback speed, this has been one of the most voted feature requests for almost 10 years now. The Plex team seemingly have no interest in implementing, or even acknowledging. 😞

Plex is not worth your money. I’ve been a plex pass member for about 2 years and I have the plex lifetime subscription. Plex used to be quite a good solution for managing personal media but it has only gotten worse and worse over time. Issues I frequently encounter are: clients not being able to connect to the server, EXTREMELY slow loading times for things like displaying a single photo (I’m talking minutes), videos downloaded to devices not playing properly, camera upload failing to upload new photos, app becoming unresponsive after pausing playback and generally a laggy UI all around. The server I’m running plex on is very powerful (it has a Xeon E5 CPU) and my network is capable of gigabit speeds so there are no bottlenecks here that are affecting performance. My advice to anyone thinking of paying for plex - save your money, it’s really not worth it. There are simply far too many issues to justify it and it seems like many of these issues will never be fixed because I’ve been experiencing some of them for years.

Love the new video engine!. Running my Plex server off a Celeron-powered NAS, transcoding subtitles has previously been a real pain. I would usually just resort to using VLC as a client so I could transcode on the client side. It’s great to now be able to transcode subtitles directly within a Plex client with the enhanced video engine! Please keep development going toward a stable release.

Clunky interface. Despite using an iPad Pro 2018 model, scrolling down the home screen is jittery at best. When scrolling sideways through a library, it still only advances a couple of titles at a time, not taking advantage of the excellent kinetic scrolling inherent in iOS that literally every other streaming software uses. Oh and the most hilarious thing is they still haven’t fixed a lifelong bug which causes movie cast members to not be displayed in normal order you’d expect (which is only an issue in the iOS Plex app) I’m not knocking Plex, but rather their iOS app developers are seemingly quite lazy.

Goodbye Kodi. Have been a kodi user via NAS and LibreELEC and other for many years. Tried PLEX in the very earlier days and wasn’t to impressed. Looking for change and in particular remote access I thought I would give PLEX anothe try via the QNAP native app (for server) and Rasplex as clients. Wow what a difference time has made. Only been using it a week and already paid for lifetime membership. That says it all!

All pretty good but Plex Connect could do with an update. Ok, I know Plex Connect is not actually part of Plex. But given that development on it has stopped the ‘Plex Team’ could and should take over the application and keep it in sync with the other awesome developments they have undertaken in the last year or so. It would be very cool if Plex Connect recognised the user security for Plex ie quarantining MA and above content from young folk - just to mention one relatively simple enhancement. Adding stuff like Live TV would be awesome. Just saying.

Awesome and so easy to use. Used to be a xbmc/Kodi user, eventually I got sick of the constant issues on that platform and tried Plex, all of my tvs and iPads can now connect with relative ease. I no longer need a powerful computer to run as it’s just a media server. Would recommend this to anyone with multiple devices.

Plex Server is great….front end apps not so good.. Whilst I love the Plex Media Server and overall interface of Plex I’ve noticed recently the front end apps have become really buggy. Most movies and TV are stuttering loads and it’s largely unwatchable and I’m running the latest Apple M2 Pro so it’s not the server. I’ve now migrated to Infuse which plays the media flawlessly and I shouldn’t have to given I pay for the Plex premium. This is becoming a big issue for me and looking for alternatives to Plex now.

Plex double charging. I’ve been using plex on and off for years. I bought the app back when it was a paid download. Looks like they have now moved to an in app purchase and I’m being asked to pay for it again! Meanwhile bugs that have been present for years still remain. Not worth the money imho.

Excellent home streaming app. If you have a large collection of TV/Movie files, then I have found Plex to be a very convenient way to watch media on my home networked shared drive. It has the Netflix style interface for your own TV/movie files. You can then watch from all your devices. It takes a little while to organise and name your files in the way that Plex uses to download cover etc from the net. But it's easy enough logic and it was worth the effort from my perspective.

Incredible. Sadly Plex could be fantastic. On the surface it is. But almost every time I use it, I constantly have to quit, reboot, fwd to next movie then back in order to get it to stream as it should. It’s just sooooooo buggy that my wife doesn’t bother. Im on Apple platforms. Desktop, AirPlay, Apple TV, phones and iPads. Great when it functions. But so often it’s the cause of angst. And I get download speeds of 50Mb - 100Mb. It should work better.

As long as the local storage is adequate, this is great. I didn’t think I needed Plex, and for starters pretty much everything is behind a (modest) paywall. But the setup lets me watch video at (on average) 1600 kbps / SD 480p over cellular. Now I love getting away from my PC, and to use iDevice in a more congenial location to watch (my own) media is very attractive. Do keep in mind it can take a few minutes to do the buffering thing. Better to make that time up front rather than (and this even happens over wifi) have your viewing interrupted at a random moment. Also I need mention that the media is stored on the PC’s hard drive, rather than the cloud. Storage is cheap today, but one’s media isn’t without capacity constraints.

Loving it. Been a Plex pass user for years loving the app and loving how I can use live tv on it just last year got my cuz on to it he loves it so where both happy with it and will never change to and love also how U can share ur Plex stuff with anyone U know the email too I recommend this app to every one

Great , can’t live without. I love this app , it is so easy to set up and user friendly. The quality of playback and visually well set out. If you have a library of entertainment this is the app for you. Well worth the price and never regretted .

Long time happy user, nothing compares to the simplicity and power. I’ve been a plexpass member since it went live and was using the beta version for years before. I’ve got my family and friends all setup with their own Plex instances and access seamlessly to my library. All my media in one place, available instantly on every Apple TV in the house, every ones iPads and iPhones, in the car when on the road and remotely connected when staying with friends. Every new release unlocks a trove of new functionality, and bugs are fixed very quickly with a great and large user support base. Plex team is A1. Miss my emails from Barkley though

Best multimedia app ever. I have all my movies, TV series, music, and photos on a western digital cloud with Plex sitting over the top to give access to all the content on any device from anywhere… this is one of the best investments you will make. Super easy layout and great features for sorting, organising, and enriching your content..

Fundamentals don’t work. Plex is excellent at finding information about your videos, showing pretty thumbnails and playing videos in the correct order. But it does not reliably play videos without problems (such as the video stream freezing or going black while audio keeps going). The same machine that serves up plex also does Airvideo and iTunes reliably. I use plex on different devices (some non-Apple) and all of them have these same fundamental problems. My advice would be to try the free version and see if it works. But I think you are asking for trouble subscribing to plex pass (their monthly subscription). Because the dev team is clearly working on new features rather than bedding down critical functionality.

Great when it's working. Plex used to be awesome, I've used it for a long time and have the lifetime pass. It worked flawlessly for years. Unfortunately Plex has become increasingly unreliable over the last year, and is all but useless on a 75" LG tv I bought recently. Buffering issues make watching movies a nightmare, and have resisted all my efforts to resolve. Plex forums show that many users have had similar problems with LG tv's, and there's no clear solution in sight. I doubt I'd spend the money on Plex again.

Beats emby. One of the best multi media Service I have ever used I’ve had Plex since 2016 and only a few times I’ve had issues with my network not being able to remote access outside my house but in the recent updates they have fixed this issue now I can watch my TV shows and movies anywhere in the world five stars highly recommended make sure your computer is running windows 10 because there is more better User interface for beginners and people they don’t know how to use multimedia servers

Awesome. We were a MCE family for years and with Microsoft ceasing support for it, we needed a replacement and Plex delivered the goods in spades. Not only can we watch and record TV, we can do it on more devices, as well as from outside of the home - even with a poor internet connection. Thanks guys, the Wife Approval Factor is off the charts!

I love this app. All my movies and tv shows can be played from my pc in another room, to the tv via chromecast. With the same quality of user experience as you get with Netflix. Without having to think about album art or naming them etc. just brilliant. Thanks Plex guys, you’re the best

Worst update ever. I’m a lifetime Plex subscriber for the past 5 years and I absolutely hate this update! Bring back the choice of server, this email style “one inbox” is great for dumb users and frustrates the hell out of advanced users like me where I want control over which server delivers me which content! Sync chooses the slowest server every time where I have duplicates. Roll back this update or being choice of server back under advanced settings! I will continue to rate this app 1 star for every update till you do!

Activation. App always requests activation after purchase. Restore purchase doesn’t work. You need to purchase the app again then apple realises you had already purchased the app. You then need to restart the app to watch a movie etc. Next time you use the app you need to go through the repurchase process again. Very frustrating.....

Works but buggy. Not as polished as I expect for paying a subscription fee. My main gripes: 1. Playing sync'd local media via Chromecast audio only plays one song at a time (Ie playlists do not work) unless you have the app open and phone unlocked. 2. Tapping volume up and down buttons do not result in volume change. I have made a request on the forum for the first issue with no response. Would have been nice to at least be acknowledged there.

Doesn’t stream reliably. I have to agree with others on here. Plex is getting buggier rather than more stable. It won’t stream reliably and won’t upload photos automatically. It just plain won work on some devices despite kodi doing a fine job. And these bugs have been around a long time.

Used to be the best. I have used this for a few years now and at first there was no problems but after every update I run into more problems. I know stream Plex to my iPad but can not watch it straight from the server to MY TV. INSTEAD I use another program for that.

…. Plex is great but you need to add everything you can watch on here instead of downloading the things you want. For example all the seasons of a show instead of having to wait for them to download, and to have a skip intro button for all shows. But otherwise Plex is a great app to watch your favourite shows and movies. Thanks for letting me give you feedback

Do you like movies with your commercials?. Comparable to Tubi as far as film collections, with a live tv streaming option, Plex is just ok. There are numerous titles not available on Tubi, so if you’ve exhausted your search for different content on that service, you might enjoy Plex. The live tv content is average to below average in my opinion, not much to recommend. The main problem with Plex are the frequent two minute commercial breaks, compared with Tubi’s, whose commercial breaks last about half a minute. I know this is a free service but there’s no need for that much advertising during the presentation of a film. And to have a commercial break at the very end of a film before the credits roll? Really?! Overall it’s not great, it’s not bad, but work on reducing the amount of advertising in your service, and your viewers might be a little more satisfied.

Problem loading. Poker night night your app not loading

Love Plex, App needs Polish.. This app constantly crashes and the new downloads are a nightmare. If it downloads, which is a big if. The media might still not work when you go to use it.

New changes are awful!. Why would you remove user defined folders from the main screen? I can’t find or see anything useful. Now the main menu is just as bad as the program schedule. Can’t you just give the people what they want instead of what your vision of a user experience is!

Nope. Super heavy with ads. Tubi is way better than this one

Paid and subscription then why track users?. You have paid and subscription features and a stay revenue stream from this app. Why must you track users? Please change your policies and stop tracking users.

Took a turn for the worst. This app used to be good. My latest gripe has to do with the Plex team holding notifications hostage by not letting you opt out of promotional offers. Now I have to disable notifications entirely for flows I used to use so I don't get their promotions about their ad ridden TV service I couldn't care less about.

The beginning of the end. Plex used to be great. Focused on your local media library and personal streaming from your home computer. Now Plex is bloated, slow and selling it’s own streaming content. I paid quite a bit of money for the old version. A real shame.

Stop messing with my preferences. The constant updates are annoying, but constantly changing people’s preferences with every update is ridiculous. I’ve been a longtime fan and supporter, but I will have to look for alternatives. I want my software to work for me, not the other way around. Please respect your user’s preferences.

Not like it used to be. This used to be my go to multimedia server Now you have to pay for everything and the UI is terrible I paid for the iOS unlock so I could watch more than 1 min on my iPad mini 2 and then wanted to play a game so I put plex on my mini 1 only to find out I'd have to pay to unlock again why is that in app purchase not tied to my Apple ID Very sketchy money making scheme Before you didn't even have to pay......goes to show you once you are popular you can charge whatever you want

Do not install. It all looks too good to be true until you realize it is. Non stop commercials that take forever to load for no reason.

Not what it used to be.. Earlier versions were a lot more simple and worked. They keep updating and the performance continues to become worse and worse. Please return it to its once stable and simple system. What happened since has all been downhill.

Great app, broken functionality. Plex is great, i use it very often. However downloads are horribly slow and are effectively useless. A single episode of a show will take longer to download than to watch. The second downloads are fixed the app will jump to 5/5 stars

Waste of time. They will spam you with 8 ads every few minutes. Insane. You will watch more ads than movies.

Stop putting ad-supported TV and Movies on my home screen. Worked great until they started injecting their own movies and shows on the home screen. Whenever I remove them they “magically” reappear. Isn’t it enough that I pay for a Plex Pass?

Great. The movie i watched was something i have never seen before and i enjoyed it , better than cable .all you seen on there is repeats and junk.

I love plex. Been very happy Since switching to plex

Plex. Mostly decent older movies but so many commercials….

Constant Problems. Every few weeks I run into a new problem with Plex and, frankly, I'm done. This most recent one has me scratching my head and grasping at straws. Every single one of my devices can access my Plex account except for one, the device I use most often. When I try to access it from my phone, it shows the server is offline. I've rebooted server and phone, reset the internet connections, made sure everything was up to date. There were no changes to my server. Literally nothing. All other devices connect normally. Try getting some help and it's like you need a degree in computers to figure things out. Plex. Figure it out.

Cannot connect to chrome cast. Not sure why this doesn’t have the options for wireless connectivity to tv or chrome

Crashing. Since the new IOS update. Plex crashes after resuming from a sleep state

Plex is the bomb!. I have been using Plex for 2 years and I love the program. I can save sort and share my media with ease. The system organizes and sorts, provides meta data on all media and even gives me trailers. The best thing ever😁

Best with a server. While there is a lot of free (read: ad supported) content on Plex the app really shines when it’s paired with a Plex media server. Great for at home, and even on the go (provided of course that your cell data/speed allow). Glad I have this as part of my media ecosystem, and happy to have a lifetime Plex pass.

?. How tf do you even watch movies

Last upgrade wrecked podcast names. On my iPad Air 2, AppleTV 4 and iPhone 8 Plus, all running the latest version OS iOS 13, I have my downloaded podcasts stored in my Music in a library named Podcasts as Artist / Podcast Name / Season / Title. Worked fine until the last upgrade. Now all the episode titles are ‘untitled’. Titles of the rest of my music are still OK. Just noticed that the titles on my PC running the latest Win 10 have been affected also. They are all titled as the Artist. However, if I access the podcasts through my Podcast library things are OK on all devices. This is different than it used to be. Please fix. I removed my music/ podcast directory from the Music library. Now my podcasts only show up in my Music Podcast library but there is no way to sort them because they only show up if I choose ‘Newly Added’. Except on the AppleTV where they display properly. This used to be a really good app. Now it’s a joke. And I don’t like the way you try to commandeer the Home screen. I had it setup the way I liked but that’s all gone!

Uselss on MacOS. I'm not sure why this is available in the MacOS App store. It kind of works, but there is no way to control the app once a video has started aside from pause / skip forward and backward using the keyboard. There's no way to go back to the video selection, or skip to the next episode. There is a preferences window, but it doesn't show anything useful.

Causes Crashes. Recent versions can cause crashes so bad they freeze the iPhone completely. This seems to happen when switching to and from the app with picture-in-picture. I hope they can fix this soon.

False Advertising. Everything says it’s free. It’s not. You can’t watch your own content without paying 8$ a month or paying 7 $ to “unlock” viewing on your on server. If you don’t it’s only their content. Good thing I decided to make sure the app worked before setting up a full server for my house. Incredibly frustrating that only the online web version is free and that iOS is not free like it says almost everywhere. Not in one place in the website or description did it mention that you can’t even stream the content. I understood no downloading but this is insane.

Use to work now trash. Use to work. It had a nice remote feature too that was removed. Now doesn’t even connect with Plex. Too buggy, you would think by now they would of figured it all out. As of today, app is completely useless. Gave 2 stars because at one point it was amazing!

Won’t restore activation. I bought Plex app in Aug 2018. New version Aug 2020 says playback is limited to 1 min and Restore Purchase button does nothing.

Crashes on opening. iOS 10.3.3, iPad Please fix!

What the. I heard so much about Plex on line and installed it on my Server. What a joke, I have spend the whole f day trying to get this working and first fixed one thing and another. Then when I can back here I looked at some of the reviews (which are very different from what people say on other internet sites) and of the issues I am having is “user cannot be authenticated” is apparently too many logins. OMG the f could have worded that as “ too many incorrect logins “ which wouldn’t confuse people with the “ user could not be authenticated “ sht. I have spent the WHOLE day doing port forwarding and trying DNAT rules and exceptions on my firewalls and routers because I thought it was an IP/ Networking issue. I haven’t even got this working yet and man, am I disappointed

Plex is great but……. Plex is a great app. The standard movie and show libraries work great. The one area where I think they can improve is on the home video and photo section. If they can combine home video and photos that would be great. This will remove the hassle of sorting photos and videos. Also, if the app can automatically sort the photo and video format when on auto play that would be great. The ability to scroll a video within the photos would also be great. Great work guys. Keep up the great work.

Works MAYBE 10% of the time. Content buffers every ten seconds, loading screen for ages, not even worth using anymore.

Crap. If you’re looking for an app that will constantly stop every two minutes while you’re trying to watch a show and not reopen. This is the app for you. Always gives you some sort of error code. If you’re looking to just be annoyed and ticked off, I suggest you download this app because your life will be where you want it to be piece of crap.

Shortened title. Plex sucks!! IOS version can’t play slides.. I opened a topic describing the problem on the Plex Forum about a year ago. I got one comment from Plex support who said they were looking into it. And that was the last I heard of him. Meanwhile, countless other users and Plex Pass holders have added their names and confirmed the problem is real. Plex on iOS is completely useless for playing slide shows. And despite the growing swell of user complaints, Plex issues nearly weekly updates to their server and player apps, adding j”junk welfare” movies and live TV streams, seemingly abandoning its loyal base by offering more and more useless features—all the while our legitimate technical issues are ignored. I don’t doubt that a one or two Plex softwaregineers could have fixed this obvious bug in a day or two. I get new emails every week from users who can’t use photos on iOS Plex, and no one can understand why this simple problem wasn’t fixed nearly a year ago. I used to love Plex, rated it 5 stars and recommended it to all my friends. I was always a Plex Pass subscriber—not because of any significant benefits (there aren’t any), but as voluntary measure of my support. (If something works, you like it, and use it extensively, I believe in supporting the developer so that they remain viable and continue to offer a great product. Sadly, after a year of total neglect and no responsiveness from anyone at Plex, I cancelled my Plex Pass. They didn’t even ask why I was dropping it. Had they had the sense to ask that simple question, the problem would no doubt be fixed by now and I would be a happy customer instead of a justifiably irate former fan. I await the news that the slide player problem on iOS has finally been acknowledged and dealt with. At which time, i wine happy to buy a Plex Pass again and revise my deservedly very negative review.

Are you kidding?. I have had a lifetime Plex Pass for years and my servers are available to family and friends. I manage my Plex servers through a password protected admin account and I am the only one who knows the admin password. The users log in to Plex with the general Plex password associated with my email address, known to all. Today one of my users, an experienced computer user, downloaded the Plex app and was flabbergasted to learn that when she logged into Plex with the general Plex password she had instant access to the system admin account and could add or delete anything on the system! YIKES!!! Who designed this? Who tested this? What were they thinking?

Not functional, zero support. The app keeps demanding i pay for a playback pass I have already purchased. When I buy it again the app acknowledges that I’ve already paid and asks if I’d like to activate it. I do. Five seconds later it demands I pay for a playback pass. This is the infinite loop I live in and there is no support for this in through the App Store or website. I’ve used this app for almost a decade. The company has drastically gone down hill in the last year.

Amazing!!. Love the shows on here :)

Wearying Ad Breaks. This app is well designed in some ways (especially the search, which tells you about other apps that have a movie you want), but the frequent ad breaks last up to three times as long as on other free apps. You lose the emotional continuity of the movie unless you spend the break thinking about what just happened. After I finish a movie on Plex, I usually go watch other apps before I slog through another one here.

Who is in charge of interface design?. Look, Plex is great for what it can do....but man alive, this is the most unintuitive, hard to use, worst designed software I have ever used....and I am a software junky. Tear it down, rebuild...interface is awful, nothing is where you think it should be, nothing makes sense whatsoever, good luck giving this to a kid to use.

Too many commercials. Frequent commercials, not enough playing time

Very disappointed. Bought a subscription so the ads would go away but to my surprise and disappointment the ads are still being displayed. Major rip-off.

Great. Working great

Great server, so-so client. As a server it’s great. Using the client apps on iPhones and iPads is pretty good, though syncing movies to play while on airplane mode (in an airplane) doesn’t always work. The BIGGEST problem has been audio sync when used with a stereo pair of HomePods. Looks like some progress has been made with the new audio engine. Now I just need to sort out why audio cuts out all together (3rd gen Apple TV 4K).

Still no support.... Reported an issue back in July about there not being support to change the download directory for downloads in side of the app. I have an external 100GB SD card plugged into my iPhone that shows up as "SD STORAGE" under "files" app. But when I go into downloads section inside of the plex app it won't let me change where the downloads go, it forces me to use & allocate the iPhones built in memory. Why can't we change it to an external storage device? Example: an external SD card?

Watched The Hound of The Baskervilles. For some reason, the system lists it as the Hammer version with Christopher Lee. It’s actually the TV version. There were two adaptations made with Peter Cushing as Sherlock Holmes.

Ruined!. Love Plex, used it for years! But this new activation they added completely destroys the app! The prompt pops up constantly to annoy you about paying for the app as an option but after clicking no it closes whatever video feed your watching. So it’s just a constant loop of watching 30 seconds of video, prompt, prompt closes video. I should also state I’ve never once left an app review but deliberately went out of my way to write this, that’s how annoying it is!

Mess the old open source version. I used plex since the day when it was free and open source, now lately the plex software is going down hill making everything not work right or having to be force to pay to get ads and other features. Plex removed the plugins witch was amazing features but now you have to pay. I’ve already switch to another free open source software that does what plex does but better. There are developers who cares and plex only cares about money.

Rush hour 3 deleted scenes. I like the one with the horses

👉 Are you looking for an Adsense alternative advertising platform?

Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!

Overall good, has a handful of glitches that are very annoying.. Glitches I am currently experiencing: If the app is in landscape and you leave it (click on a notification, hit the home button, etc.) the app will be messed up on return. It still uses the landscape layout but it's in portrait, so half of the content is cut off. A force close fixes this. Videos do not take up the full screen. There is a sliver of black on the left side that is about the size of the notification bar, this is always present and causes the right side of every video to be cut off.

Horrible. I use Plex specifically to replace iTunes on my iPhone and download songs, so I can listen when out of cell range, which is often for me. This app was OK a few years ago and then they sent an update that caused it to crash frequently, especially 5 minutes after you start the car and it was playing when you were in the car previously (I’ve had 3 different cars during this version, so it’s not the car). Recently, it updated again and I was hoping it would finally work right again….honestly, I’m not sure, because I’ve been focused on the new problems. Now, when you select a downloaded playlist, it takes about 5 minutes to start playing…playing what is ON the phone!?….and it asks for a passcode to open the app….incredibly irritating, especially when you’re on a motorcycle. This app has caused me more grief than any other app I have ever used….ever.

Chromecast keeps getting worse. I use Plex because it lets me keep my media viewing habits private. The Plex TV apps are great for friends and family, but at home my only real option is Chromecast. I’ve made substantial upgrades to my home network. This helped for a while, but if you leave a show paused for more than a few minutes it’s disconnected. If you open the app and hit the cast button the running show is interrupted. What’s the Plex team hard at work on? Trying to find ANY way to shovel more of their ad filled content down my family’s TVs. This is NOT the philosophy of a company who cares about their “customers” which WE clearly no longer are.

No lossless ALAC sync to iPhone?. I am a new user who pays monthly for pass as well. I’ve been very happy with two exceptions. 1. This is a Roku issue but I’ll mention it here anyway just in case someone from Plex is reading this. I really want gapless music playback. You can’t listen to albums from Pink Floyd and side two of Abbey Road like this. It’s very annoying to say the least! 2. From my windows computer I want to sync ALAC 16/44 lossless to my iPhone for offline playback. Why can’t this be done? Why does it have to be converted to MP3 first? I know I can download directly from my phone but if I’m on my windows computer already I should be able to make it happen from there as well.

All I wanted from my lifetime plexpass…. …was to save on cellular streaming. I bought a phone with plenty of space. I wanted my whole music library in my pocket for this purpose. And now your main app no longer supports downloading entire libraries. I guess I should be thankful that I can still ostensibly do it from your main app, but, if my personal experience is typical, I know why a full library download is not supported—IT DOESN’T WORK. I’ve gotten maybe a tenth of my less than 10k song library to transfer to my phone, and it’s been a tiresome process of opening the app and leaving my phone on and not letting it go to sleep. I basically no longer listen to music on long walks anymore, generally resorting to podcasts exclusively. Your replacement rollout of the sync/download feature has been, from my view, a massive disappointment.

It was great, but they keep breaking it. I’ve been using Plex for a decade, but over the past two or three years the software has been repeatedly broken by the devs adding money making elements and removing functionality from the actual server software. More and more often the servers are unresponsive, often because of a library scan but equally as often just because. Servers will suddenly be inaccessible directly, but can be accessed indirectly even though *nothing* changed. Just now I had to change my password, and did a forced logout to clear all my devices (there was a hack) and now Plex isn’t seeing any of the libraries on either machine. It’s frustrating, and Plex support is useless generally and aggressively unhelpful if pressed. I need to find better media server software.

New menu stinks. I used to have all my libraries on the home page. Now they’re scattered in several different sections, and then broken into more subsections within each. I have to go searching to find a video. Every time there is an ‘update’, it gets harder to just browse my libraries. Also, I had my rips set up so when watching through the Roku, I could just hit the * and turn subtitles on and off. Now it works on some videos, but others I have to exit the movie to set the correct subtitle. I think the interface was better 2 years ago than it is now. Plex moves stuff around and changes things way too frequently thinking they’re making it better, but IMO they’re are not. For the first time, I am looking at other options for my media library.

Going in the wrong direction. Buggy, constant upsell. Used to love Plex. Recently their business model is changing, and with it so is the experience and quality of their apps. It’s no longer a home for personal media. It’s a streaming aggregator with a side hustle of personal media. I’m constantly fighting with settings to not get bombarded with upsells to plex’s own (poor quality) streaming content, and now to Plex’s advertising of other major streamers. This is spilling over to their apps, especially the iOS app. Personal media use has languished and is buggy, while streaming aggregator functions are pushed heavily. It’s not a good experience for me anymore, and I’ll be ditching Plex for something else very soon. Avoid Plex if you want to keep your personal media and streaming separate - they no longer support this.

Glad to find Plex. I have a smart TVs. When I originally scanned the available streaming apps, I didn’t find it recently I searched for a specific show that was no longer available. That’s how I found PLEX. I don’t mind commercials but they too often fail to load and lock up. None of the buttons help to restart or move forward or back to restart the stream. I have to leave, restart PLEX, and resume watching. Sometimes it resumes with the commercials, then I am anxious about getting through them. A string of 2-3 is usually stable. 5-6 rarely succeed. The production quality is great. I am binge watching 2 episodes of the program I chose. I suspect I will be checking the rest of your catalog soon. PLEX will reach 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 when the glitchy commercials are fixed.

Better free. I paid money for this app because I was tired of using the the web to launch Plex on my mobile devices. Problems started after this last update. Getting media to play took a long time but when the movie started it was good to go. The subtitles stopped showing up and the playback repeats itself every 2-5 minutes so I decided to buy the app. The subtitles show up now! But the the movie quality lowers by itself, the resume playback does not work at all and sometimes my media won’t show up. This is using cellular data. The resume playback doesn’t even function when streaming on my network. I’m frustrated and regret paying for the app after using it for free.

Excellent app, use it daily. I love this app and I have been using it daily for many years now. I would highly recommend this to anyone. There are just a few things that could use improvements- - playback stutters when you slide down control center - would be nice to have configurable forward and reverse increments - I prefer play/pause controls overlaying the video- like Netflix and prime video. IMO prime does a great job I like how a single tap in the center of the playback will pause rather than having to tap once to display and again on pause. The controls are also fairly small and they are easy to fat finger plus pretty difficult to target with gloves on - After pausing and leaving the app when coming back the playback is green for a few seconds but searching back once will fix it right away… might have to do with encoding but I have had this issue on many formats.

Offline browsing bug. Clicking Offline Browsing when you’re on the network is broken. If your on the network, when offline browsing is selected, you still see all of the network content. Not sure how this got out of testing! Expected behavior is all network content should disappear and only locally stored content should be viewable. Another bug is that sorting and viewing preferences don’t stick when moving between online and offline content. Example, I want to only see a view of my albums alphabetically. I don’t want to see the default view of artists. If I change to sort view to the way I like it, it reverts back to default when I go back offline. Please review your old app and ask your users why they liked their Plex experience the way it used to work. You can learn a lot from your customers.

Forces tou to update tour OS. Plex just unleashed a surprise update that immediately disconnects Mac users who aren’t updated to current OS. I have Plex on 3 Roku devices and my cellphone. But overnight a few days ago, Plex uploaded its player “update” that now no longer connects to my Plex server. You get error messages saying Plex server needs to be at least 1.1 something or higher — even tho I’m running the current version. Plex is NOT backward compatible for users. You have to upgrade or quit using Plex. Since I have a number of legit reasons for not upgrading, I have to quit Plex and find alternative software. Plex is poor at communicating with its customers, apparently doesn’t test on various software OS versions (or desn’t care), springs surprise updates that aren’t user friendly or intuitive. Avoid this for now — until they figure it out.

Very bad app for audio. So I left a review on here earlier and now magically disappeared so I am having to write it once more. The problem is that the audio portion of Plex does not work well at all. It doesn’t retain any meta-data and most of the tracks show up without an art artist or album or title no matter how many times you enter this information and save it. This makes the audio portion off the app useless.I got a response from the developer saying that some other people had similar issues and if I wanted to add my experience on the thread. I have already done this in the forms without a response along with multiple other people. Once they fix this I will be happy to change it to a five star review because it genuinely is a decent platform for video. But I paid for a lifetime pass and that includes using the audio portion

I am I love…but. I love PLEX but when I watch a movie there is a add and it has a bad word but you are probably saying (sarcastically) oh no a bad word??? That is so bad for a nine year old. So ya it is bad for a nine year old . But other then that I LOVE PLEX all of the new movies come out on PLEX so you don’t hAve to buy them for like $100 (maybe I was a little sarcastic) a few week few weeks before I put on this movie called Ella enchanted but instead of playing Ella and enchanted and played this random movie and it was really violent and I fast forward it so that it wouldn’t be on my continued to watch but it was really scary and my baby sister got scared even though all that bad stuff happened later everything was fine and fixed so yeah you should get PLEX!

Need captions option. I’ve only watched one show on Plex so far. Ironically, it is Sue Thomas FB-Eye - and I’m complaining because there’s no option to turn on captions. I can guess why not. T hey are expensive enough to put in while making a show; probably 2-3x as expensive to add it post production, especially when it’s a little more than a video rebroadcast. Nevertheless, I love the show I’m watching, and I know it’ll be over soon. I’ll find other shows to watch on Plex. I don’t even mind the ads so much because they run them in groups and then give us a long time to watch the show before running the next group. And I’ve already recommended Plex to two of my friends. Thumbs up!

Terribly slow, crashes constantly. Not sure where all these 4 and up star reviews are coming from other than Plex paying people off, but this app is hot garbage. It crashes constantly, fails playback because “reasons”, is incredibly slow when looking through your library and when playing selections. Even if you leave the app and even turn your phone off and on again, it still doesn’t play anything! It’s just not working because “F you, that’s why.” And I’ve verified that the desktop version of my library works just fine, so it’s all the apps fault. BUYER BEWARE, you are wasting your money. I should’ve taken this app off a while ago because it’s unusable, just a waste of space and money.

No iPad Pro Splitscreen. My setup at home is an 27” Asus ROG monitor with my iPad Pro connected to it via USB-C. When I use Plex, it properly displays out to the external monitor and is using the full screen instead of just mirroring my iPad display. This is great! However, other apps like Infuse 5 and Twitch allow you to use the app on the iPad to be ran in splitscreen. This gives you the ability to have a video playing full screen on your monitor, 1/3 of the iPad screen to be the app playing the media, and the 2/3 of the iPad screen can be used for whatever you want. I’m hoping they release an update for this soon. Being able to watch shows/movies on my external monitor while I multitask on my iPad screen would be great!

Gets better with age. I have used Plex for years and years. Each iteration either makes it more stable or adds improvements to the program, like subtitles, What it does automagically would take a long time to do manually. My grandkids can watch family videos, see pictures of their progenitors or watch movies from 3000 miles away. Heck, I even was able to access it in China, on the opposite side of the globe. The users forum can get you through any possible rough patches when you are starting out as they did for me, although as the program gets more and more sophisticated, that probably isn’t necessary. In a nutshell, they’ve made sharing easy.

Plex iOS. The plex media server works more or less fine. However I paid well over $120 for the Premium version in part for the music features, including offline sync to iOS Devices and premium music library. Sync takes hours in some cases (for only a few albums). I have had a forum support ticket opened for literally 60 days with no useful help from the person at plex "assisting". Very disappointed in the iOS app. Aside from the above I have found play back of music doesn't work properly. If I press play on track one, it starts on tracks 2. I have to then skip back to get to track 1. This has happened multiple times on multiple albums. Playlist don't always play back properly in offline sync mode. Would be a great thing if it worked but the app is trash.

Amazing App. I’ve now had my Plex for about two years. For anyone with a lot of movies (and other media), it’s a must-have tool for organization and playback. I’ve created with my Plex my own, home-grown, NetFlix for my family and friends. This app lets me take my entire movie collection with me. After having the Mac version running about a week, I realized what an incredible thing Plex really was, and bought a Plex Pass. For those that don’t know, a Plex Pass is a lifetime upgrade subscription. It’s not that I cared about upgrades at all; it worked beautifully already. It’s that Plex is such an incredible piece of work, that I, without regret, paid the $100 one-time cost. Two years later and Plex is still free, And I’m still glad I sent the developers $100. If you understand that I hate paying a buck for a phone app, or several $$ even for Windows Office, and you’ll realize my level of appreciation. Keep up the great work and THANK YOU.

Updated Review. Been forever since I wrote a review for this. Long time Plex user (10 years??) and have had the lifetime pass for several years now. (Even bought a pass for my kid) Server used to be glitchy but last couple years it has been mostly great! I have a massive movie and tv library and it handles it all both inside and outside the network. (Music too) I recently started using live tv and there’s actually more interesting stuff to watch compared to the lame stuff History and Science channels play on my Directv Steam. Next to try out the Amp app when I have time to copy all my music to the phone. Thanks for a great product worth paying for (twice)

Better and better. I used Plex for years until my server crashed and I switched to Netflix for about 2 years and Netflix has a tendency to show english dubbed shows and no way to turn off seeing them, which is annoying. I wanted something better with more control so I bought a cheap pc for my plex server and torrent download manager and I gotta say that I’m impressed with how well plex performs since I’ve been away. The facebook groups are super helpful as well and the live tv works better than I expected. I’m probably going to subscribe to plex pass just to support them and the added features will be nice. Great job to the plex team for all they have done to make this app work so well and all for free

Plex-The easiest way to view and share your stuff. I first downloaded the Plex environment a year ago. It was obvious to me after a month that I needed to get a lifetime subscription. It beautifully organizes your movies, tv shows, and music into easy to view and listen groups. And now, with the addition of live TV via approved tuners, we see our over the air tv anywhere while also being able to record it and have it stored in Plex ready to view. The one area I have had difficulty is getting my pictures organized so that they can be viewed. That’s not really important to me, but if it is to you, be certain to try Plex first before buying a license.

Server is great. This app.. not so much. Every update loses its connection to my local server & has to be re-connected manually via that well-hidden (though by now well-known) option. No idea why this happens, but it always does after every update of the iOS client. Other apps on the same device can connect to other services on the same server, and no other devices on my lan have a problem with the Plex server, or any other service for that matter. Obviously a long-standing bug in the client. And now after the most recent update it won’t even connect after performing the above maneuver. I get a “Plex server is currently unavailable. Please verify the server is running..” etc. Switch to safari on the exact same iOS device that this app is running on and it can connect to the server via the web interface just fine. Don’t waste your time, or money.

An app worth paying for. I have been a Plex user (free) for a few years until today when I finally become a Plex Pass (lifetime) user. I absolutely love this app and have gotten others on the bandwagon too. Once I upgraded my router I have had great streaming in my house and it wasn’t so bad with the severely outdated one too. I run an older i3 4gb ram wireless N computer and I can stream pretty high rate 1080p with little to no issues and if I have some I just dumb down the stream so the computer can handle it all. As of now I can stream and control the quality of the stream when I am away from home. My iPad Pro loves Plex and so do I. Thank you for the consistent updates to make Plex the best entertainment app and (home network/computer) software one could ever need!

THE BEST STREAMING PLATFORM FOR HOME SERVERS. If you’re like me, and you want to have control over the media your family consumes, (I’m looking at you Netflix), you set up your own home server. This application is the one you want. I have tried others but Plex just has the most support. I can stream from any device my account is signed into. Usually i will stream from my iPad or PS4 in another room. Its amazing. Its like having your own Netflix that YOU control.. I dont like that you have to pay $5 on iOS devices per account to bypass the limit, but to be honest, its well worth it. The best new feature is “watch together”. I can stream a show or video and watch it with a family member that lives far away. I’m a huge fan The coolest part is how it pulls in data about your tv shows or movies automatically. You have to have your database organized correctly to do this. I use an application called TV Rename on windows to do this. There’s a learning curve to all of this but, if you’re willing to put in the time, its well worth it.

Recently having issues. For the most part plex and the plex server work perfectly but I’ve found as of the last update that the iOS app keeps freezing every time the orientation changes or I lock my phone. So every time I might sit my phone down it goes from landscape to portrait and freezes until I force quit the app and restart it. Have the latest iOS update as well. Either way I still love plex and have a lifetime subscription. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Like the app but less than before. There is to much stuff Plex put’s on you Plex screen you cannot customize. From their tv channels to what is being popular to new movie releases. Some of it I am interested in but since they group various things it is all or nothing. As well the camera sun feature was removed. I also wish I could group sequels like you manage tv shows. I also still miss the feature of “books on tape” and I would love to see that you could manage ebooks and comics. But the core application of managing movies, pictures and tv shows and streaming them to all the various devices is great. That is why I gave it 4 stars. The extra features is worth the lifetime subscription.

Plex is on the edge of perfection. With the inception of direct play from Network. I have been able to retire all my other media players. The interface is fantastic. Plex plays smoothly and it is easy to use. The one thing I am waiting for, and it’s holding me back from giving five stars, is the inability to transcode Dolby Atmos, DTS-X, or Dolby True HD, audio to Apple TV. We love our Apple TV, but at this time we are not holding our breath for Apple to give us lossless audio streaming from third-party application. Please figure out how to transcode it to what Apple TV can play. At this time if I try to play any files that include any of these audio codecs, Plex fails to play the file on Apple TV. We are also hoping for Dolby Vision support soon. thank you for your hard work and fantastic application.

I use Plex every day! Love it!. Plex is one of the best Media Apps out there! I use Plex every day! Love it! I've been using Plex for years now. I watch all my tv shows and movies on Plex on my iPad, iPhone, laptop and of course on my tv's too! The “On Deck” feature is great. We’re my next tv series episode sits and waits. Now PLEX added older movies, web video clips and news to watch! Kind of cool! Plex as my main media streamer. It's easy to add you video files. I only wish that there could be a way to have PLEX automatically use my Filefactory video storage directly to PLEX. So that I wouldn’t have to store any videos on my computer. I have 6 External HD storing all my videos plus Filefactory as a backup. Would be nice not to have to buy so many hard drives. $$$ Maybe sometime in the future. Cool! The only thing I really dislike is that if you have an issue, you have to spend to much time sifting through other people's problems until you find one similar to your problem. And hope there is a solution. I wish that Plex had somebody to actually help when you have a problem or a question.

What happened?!?. Ok so the app and services are great. However the newest update added way too many divisions and buttons to what was a smooth and easy to use system. The bottom menu is so much bigger than it needs to be and still leaves out used sections. And in the left where servers used to be now its divided by servers by folder and some of us have several folders and if you have a paid subscription or people sharing with you significantly more which bogs down the search process for what you want. PLEASE! Go back to the older menu system, someone overthought this one and it needs to be fixed in a big bad way.

Plex is the Best!. I’ve been running a Plex server for the past two years and it’s been nothing short of amazing. I use it to stream all my shows as well as music when I’m at home or even far away. Watch party is also great since you don’t need everyone to have some sort of paid subscription, just the content owner & an invite from them. The live TV & everything else is also a nice bonus, but hosting your own content is what makes this platform shine. It even uses an agent to grab metadata about the shows/movies you put on the server.

When it works, it's amazing. To be clear, the actual service of Plex is phenomenal. This app, is the most finicky thing I've ever used. I am currently watching Plex on my TV, and yet this app refuses to connect to ANY server even tho they are all online, as evidenced by the fact that I am currently using them. I have this problem DAILY, and sometimes it's fixed in 30 seconds, other times I spend minutes trying to connect until giving up and moving on to something else because it will not connect. And that I have to go through this every time I use the app is absolutely ridiculous. The Plex servers I use are up to date, my app is up to date, I'm on the same dang WiFi network as my most frequently used server and still it can't recognise when a server is Online. I recommend Plex, but this app is hit or miss

It was all good initially. I initially really enjoyed my Plex app and told everyone I could about it. I’ve been extremely disappointed the last few months as I have not been able to watch a TV show or movie fully without it slowing down or not working properly. I have checked all of and adjusted my settings as well as restarted my devices and router yet the problem continues. I am very disappointed as of late with this app especially after reading the updates that have been made yet the same problems are still occurring. Then to top it all off as I attempt to contact them through support the forum to fill out and submit button disappear from the support option when chosen. So in order to submit my complaint I had to do so under another menu option.

Removal of Essential Features happens quietly. I have noticed that the camera roll sync has been removed from profiles that are in your Plex Home. This was a feature that hundreds of people used in the community and has been removed with no mention of the removal. The issue is say you have your server set up to sync the camera roll of two people in your Plex home, it used to work. My account (server owner) could sync camera roll as well as my wife’s profile who is a managed user, in my Plex home. The newest version of this app has removed the feature for managed users to sync the camera roll, even though the permission is still there on the server. I know this worked in the version before the current version. Plex, please re-add this feature.

This is the best app on my phone. Not only that but it’s the beat app experience I have ever had. I love this app. I’ve literally never written a review for an app. My love for this app pushed my to it. I preach about this app in public. It’s like vegans or cat people but I just talk about Plex. I feel like a missionary. This app might make you annoying due to it’s passion inspiring and life changing awesomeness. Please keep up the good work guys. Gimme me your address so I can send you all fruit baskets. I’m naming my next child plex after this app. I love you guys. If you’re ever in Seattle you can come eat dinner at my house. Open invitation to anyone who works at plex.

Syncing is Slow and Unreliable. We set up a Plex server primarily to make it easier to sync content to our mobile devices for travel. Overall the Plex experience is good, but syncing is unreliable (it often stops and doesn’t finish downloading the videos). It’s also incredibly slow as Plex won’t sync our content without transcoding it. Even with max quality setting on the client it transcodes the 5.1 audio track of every video, which it doesn’t need to do. There is no way to prevent it according to the plex forums, which are the only form of support, even for paid users. This has apparently been a known issue for several years, and was unfortunately the only reason we purchased a plex pass, so pass cancelled and app refund requested.

Great media player but live tv needs work. Everything works pretty well but the guide on live tv is super janky. Leave the app in background and come back to the guys some hours later and it starts freaking out trying to figure out the time slots to show not letting you select any channels. You should allow the channel numbers to be tapped to be selected. Not just the show titles. Also the guid should be able to be overlayed on top of the full screen video stream playing in background so you can choose channels while still having a fullscreen view of what’s playing. This app was 5 stars before they added the live tv stuff but now it seems they bit off more then they can chew. Give some love and attention to live tv and the guide and this will be 5 stars again.

Bad Joke level customer service and Tech Support.. Have had my plex account hacked over a month ago and I’m STILL dealing with customer service trying to restore full control over it. Service is good, app is good, but if you ever have a problem and need help? Man you are screwed at that point. Update: Have had my account restored using a method not in the list of methods given to me by customer support which have an inaccurate list of such methods those were attempted only to be shot down, and I went down the list. The only 2 methods they will accept is 1. payment details: which would be easy but who keeps the records of a sub 200 dollar 2 year old purchase that was not even bought on your credit card to begin with? 2. If there is a change of email you get emailed a link with a token in it. Which is what I was able to find. Don’t get me wrong I am very happy to have my account restored, but if there was a magic bullet to fix this which there was, why wouldn’t you go there first and save an entire month of frustration. I will say that I really enjoy the app itself it’s all but revolutionized my entertainment, but customer service needs more money and the folks need to be retrained as they do not seem to be very knowledgeable, my issue used as a case in point.

Used to be a great app. The plex app used to be a great thing to used As a remote control for plex viewers But plex decided that the volume control was not needed in the UI anymore as the iPhone has a hardware volume controller Now most people cannot adjust the volume of anything That is being streamed to a plex viewer and the volume controlled on the site of the phone adjust the ringer volume. App volume and plex volume all at the same time. So if you have to turn plex down. You better remember to turn your phone back up. Or you will not hear it ring And as of version 6.6 that is available in the App Store. There is still no volume slider available in the app Hey. Plex. How about you listen to the people who supported you and bought your plex pass and keep the function In that people want. Instead of listening to a stupid designer who thinks they know everything For example. The stupid designer who though removing the start button from windows was a great idea. Look how that turned out. Microsoft. Lost millions in sales because of that. And they fired the designer this though it was a great idea. Now look at windows There is a start button So bring back the volume slider it is required for the app to work corectelly.

A highly successful replacement for EyeTV S/W. I was in a early user of EyeTV software. Unfortunately, the software fell apart for users a couple of years ago. Plex is a successful replacement. It’s not exactly perfect, but it is improving greatly, over time. I just wish you could manually edit video files, within the program. I also miss not being able to record from a keyword search. But, all in all, I am back in business recording over the air. Using the Plex server in a Synology box has greatly improved the Plex process. Highly recommended.

Great App, but needs to be more standardized. Plex is a great way to share and have your media wherever you go, but for some reason each app for each device functions differently and has different features. For instance, using Plex on your iPad may give you the option to save to a playlist, but then when using Plex on your smart TV, that option is not there. They layout may be different as well. It also can use more customization features for the home page...for instance I would want just a list of movies, and you cant do that. The only options are recently added, recently played, etc.

Incredible utility when paired with a TV tuner!. I’ve used Plex for years and have always loved how easy it works. It’s amazing how I can just click a button and have a piece of media automatically transcode and download to my phone to watch on a plane. But now that I’ve paid for Plex Pass and paired it with my server which has a TV tuner, it’s like magic. I can tap a button to view live TV, and under the covers, Plex is tuning my server at to the right channel, encoding video on the fly, and streaming that live video to me from home thousands of miles away to Hawaii over a crappy hotel Internet connection. And it just works. Add all that to the stuff Plex has done for years, like serving my music and syncing locally. It’s a must have for any media enthusiast.

Love Plex!. Plex has made accessing my personal video collection easy with a terrific interface. I love being able to watch my media when traveling or at home, with ease. I also record TV shows off my antenna daily. I started sharing my server with friends and family and they enjoy entertainment via Plex every day. I had an issue with server crashes after an update and Plex support was extremely helpful in addressing and fixing the problem. Buying and setting up your own Plex media server is a great way to organize your own movies and TV shows.

Congrats. Edit - figured it out, it only shows up when there is the availability of additional servers to choose from. Kind of makes it difficult to realize that hey, that server isn’t connected right now, instead of, how the heck do change freaking servers! Thanks for making troubleshooting so difficult. Congrats. You’ve managed to screw something up so royally as to get me to write a review. Somewhere, somehow, the ability to switch servers has been either deleted or tucked away somewhere in the deep dark bowels of the current iteration of the plex app for iOS. I like to think I’m pretty dang tech savvy, way more than the blue shirt wearing sales people. Anyways this is dumb. Changing servers is part of the lure of this service and is part of why I bought a lifetime pass. Please fix!

Because Plex. For years I looked for a solution for all my digitized movies. I bought a ton through iTunes but still had 1200 DVD’s that I own. Enter plex. after meticulously ripping all my media via handbrake did I have a a spot for them. But they were tagged, organized and placed into a single spot ( protected on a raid 5 server) hell yes. Since discovering plex I became a card carrying user with over 35 users attached to my libraries, 100,000 songs from my personal collection to several hundred tv shows indexed and ready to go. I recommend this to anyone wanting to organize and show off their library.

Amazing. This is one of the greatest apps I’ve ever used and is an absolute necessity. Plex continues to expand and grow. Having an app that can access all my most important media data from my computer in a slick interface is revolutionary. The allowing of sharing particular files with friend and innovative features such as discover shows plex heading in the right direction. The only thing plex needs to be 5 star imo is too bring back photo uploads and audiobooks as well as adding Kendal books. And introduce other small features such as video/voice chat during watching together.

What’s with all the negativity?. I’m honestly confused about the negative reviews about the latest update... it works fine for me and I actually like the new UI. If you haven’t used Plex before, DON’T LISTEN TO ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!! These are the type of people who struggle with technology in general and probably still have an iPhone 4s... the new update works great on my iPhone XS Max, Roku Ultra, Roku Stick+, Apple TV, Chromecast... the list could go on. I literally tried to replicate the issues that some of these people described and could not. I don’t work for Plex and I wasn’t paid to say this—just a long time Plex Pass holder.

Interface constantly changes. Every time I get used to the interface, they release an update and screw things up. The latest thing that annoys me - you scroll down through 12 seasons of a show, then if you wanted to go to season 13 or later then you scroll back up and hit See All. As soon as I make a habit of hitting see all, then they will change it to scrolling to the right or something else stupid. Simplify the interface and leave it alone. Constantly changing the interface doesn’t make me value the hard work that goes into updating the app. It should be a really simple app and shouldn’t constantly be changed. Hiding seasons after 12 shouldn’t be a thing. I’m sure there is a reason, because some show has 20 seasons or something and you want to make it easy to get to cast and related shows. 1. How many shows have more than 12 seasons? 2. I know cast and related shows are down there and I’ll continue to scroll down to get to them if needed. 3. I’ve never clicked on anything in cast or related shows anyways. Plex isn’t about discovering new things, but rather people focused on what they want to watch in their library. This is my observation of how I’ve watched people use Plex.
