Best of the barcode scanners. While their are several barcode scanners available, this one is the simplest to use without sighted assistence. Right away it recognizes a lot of the things in the average kitchen. Figuring out where exactly the barcode is on items to scan them in the first place is the hardest part but does get easier with practice/experience. The more advanced functions of the app are optional, but it only gets more and more useful the more you dive in. Definetly read the website's tips to get all the use out of it.

Great app, even better support.. I've been using Digit-Eyes since it first came out. While it takes a little bit of learning to get good at scanning, once you get the hang of it, it's amazing how useful this app can be. I use it primarily to identify cans in my pantry. It's faster than putting labels on incoming stuff. You get to know where the bar code is, how to old the can, and can have successful scans in a second or three. The new extended information is great too. For many things I scan, I can get ingredients and cooking instructions. The developers are fast, friendly, and really want to help you get the most out of the app.

Okay, not that bad…. It helps to turn objects on their side, and scanned from above. It still takes some time for some objects that are larger, but it does work. Certain things are found relatively easily, and it Recognized most of the things that I threw at it. Somethings have directions for use, other things do not. I would say that overall then, this is a quick, or relatively so, way to at least figure out what you're holding.

A great app. This app if you know and have patients how to learn how to focus your camera and look for the barcode is very good. It can be difficult to use but not because of the app, more because of my not knowing where the barcode is. I appreciate the beeping to let me know that I am close to the barcode.

Beyond Amazing. Light years ahead of similar apps. I work with the blind and sight impaired and this app will improve lives and improve independence. Thank you!

Totally useless. I don’t often write reviews, but this app was so disappointing, I felt compelled to. In 15 minutes of trying to scan multiple items, even with sighted assistance, I was only able to scan one item using the app. And, that item wasn’t even in the database. Even when the camera was pointed directly at the barcode, the scanner did not pick it up. Please save your money, and buy an overpriced coffee at Starbucks.

Wonderful, very helpful app!. This app is great for the price! I've only used it to scan UPC codes so far, and this has been very helpful for identifying items like canned goods in my kitchen. It took some playing around to find the best way to get the camera to capture the code, but it gets easier and easier with practice! I'm looking forward to using the other features!

Very useful as barcode scanner. Once I got the technique for how to place and hold the phone, I got wonderful results with this application. Definitely worth the $. It was frustrating to use at first, but it was my scanning technique that was causing my frustration, and not the application. It works well.

This app is totally awesome… Not worth $10 but worth $10,000. I also find it very useful to identify spices… I pondered for weeks and had to label my spices and realized that they already have a barcode on them and I just scanned them and know what is what… Totally awesome… if you have trouble printing labels to years… Just spend a couple dollars and buy some from Digit-Eyes… It isn't worth the prostration I am always very hesitant to spend money on apps… I reluctantly bought this airport $10 and as I say… It's worth $10,000 to me… there is a slight learning curve to learn how to find and scan the barcode… But in a day or two… I am old pro… If you have questions… They are there to answer the telephone… That is a big plus there is some prostration with learning to find the barcodes… But be patient… Work with it… And… As I say… It is worth it's weight in gold… another thing that is pretty cool about the app is when it recognizes the barcode you hit the more information link and in many instances it gives you nutritional data for that particular product… also… Some products will give you cooking instructions also no more six or seven open cans in the fridge that were mistakenly identified last week and never use because I open the sauerkraut when I was looking for the kidney beans… LOL

The instructions on the website really helped me learn how to use this app to its full potential. I've had this app for about 2years now, and it's still useful. Hands down this app has helped me so much and is a great tool for finding products in my kitchen.

Practice and Patience Will Pay Off. The first thing I will say concerning the Digit-Eyes app is this; if you are a person easily frustrated and/or unwilling to put effort into challenges, I strongly recommend you avoid this app. The above comment is not intended to diss digitize it anyway. It’s just that it will take some time and practice to get fairly successful with digitize. I personally find it to be an extremely helpful option because I live alone and I got, frankly, tired of accidentally adding sauerkraut to my chili when I think I’m adding tomatoes. In short, I find digit-eyes an extremely useful and usable app!

Great App. I like this app, but except for one thing. I would also like to have the prices read along with the item. How are you suppose to know what the price if you're blind/visually impaired? Doing a web search will take to much time, and you won't be able to find someone all the time in the store. What do you do then???!

May be better with newer phone.. Quite difficult to scan factory bar codes with my 3gs, needs good light and a lot of luck. Basically a waste of money for me considering how little I use it and how poorly it reads my cans and boxes.

Highly Recommended!!!. Simply put, this app is wonderful and I'd highly recommend it! The camera improvements of the iPhone 4 further enhance the app's functionality,making it even faster and easier scanning bar codes and labels alike. I needed to scan two identically shaped bottles of hair care products and Digit-Eyes made this possible in under five seconds for each bottle with my iPhone 4 and no special lighting conditions. Thanks and kudos to Digital Miracles for making such a great product!!!

Great! New version fixed all my problems!. I was disappointed when I couldn't get it to run on my new iPhone 4, but the new version has fixed that and the app runs great! Very cool concept.

Really nicely done. Just awesome how easy and accurate it was. Great product for VoiceOver users. It makes me feel really good that developers are making apps for VI users

Waste of $19. This app works with the built-in device voice over. There are many free QR code scanners and creators that will do the same thing. Very disappointing I paid for this. I thought it had something more for the price. Run - don't walk - from this app.

Used to be a good app, but no longer. This used to be the best barcode scanning app for blind people, but not anymore. I cannot get any barcodes to scan at all with this app now. Has the developer abandoned this project? If so, I really think this app should be taken out of the App Store, As there are much better alternatives out there now which are continuing to be developed and supported.

Unusable and Useless!. Have used version 1 and 1.0.1 and was waiting for an update before writing a review. I have attempted to use the bar code scanning aspect many, many times and all times, it never works! This is a rip off and certainly not worth $30! This should not be considered a bar code scanner. There are apps that are free or very low cost, which do a way better job than this worthless app.

Horrible app - hard time recognizing barcodes. Bought this app for my visually impaired mom. When it works, it works great. But most of the time even with a perfect image of bar code, the app can't see it. Seems to like boxes better than cans. Only worked about 10% of the time. Please note I am not complaining about local brand bar codes needing to be added. If that is all it was this would be a great app. But it just doesn't "see" the barcode to begin with. App should been free or at least no more than $3.

Fraud!! Apple is supporting them. Can’t find anything!. Apple is supporting this fraud and thief app. No refund after using it for 5mins which was enough to see that this is nothing more that the Camera’s built in barcode reader. If you want to pay 10 bucks for nothing this is the perfect app for you! Shame on Apple and developer that there is no refund / or trial for this prior buying.

App is basic. Once the barcode is found, the app will give you the name of the item. It does not search any product databases to give detailed information. I am not sure why it claims to be the best. I have already found three average products it does not recognize. Also, if you are looking for cooking instructions this app will not suffice.

Great app.. This is a great app. I am totally blind, and I have been using the app all day since I got it last night. it is important, to go to the website read the instructions, follow the instructions and then try using the app. Note, I'm using 3 G.

Terrible customer support. Customer some more support is terrible! Been trying a month to get technical support to help with the printer time out problem. Both phone call attempts and email attempts failed to get a response. Do not recommend relying on this apps technical support for any assistance. Less than one star.

Does professional - quality work - really delivers!. I am not only using this app as it is intended, I am showing it off and amazing everyone with it - especially with my refreshable braille device paired to my iPhone 4. In this way, using the text-labels, Digit - Eyes is accessible and practical for deaf-blind individuals also! Great job with this app! I would LOVE to see the next version include the option to pause while recording a label, with a slider to advance it, back it up, or add to an existing recorded label. This way, we could record entire recipes, etc. in a single label. I'm proud of this app!

Works better on 4s. Just retested with the 4s and was able to identify a soop can. Still found the process frustrating

Lost for words. The app in general is very good, though it does struggle with Aldi barcodes.

Poor return on investment. Way too expensive for what it does. You can't see the barcode you just scanned. You can't export easily. Not recommended as is.

Digit Eyes app is a step forward. I have been waiting for an app which is taking advantage of iOS 4 and the iPhone 4 great camera, and goes beyond what apps like Red Laser do. This app allows the creation of custom barcodes to label things like medication, clothes and many other items for easy identification, by those who are visually impaired or blind. By logging into the website, one can create audio or text labels, and attach these custom labels for easy scanning later. I tested these larger custom labels. They are easy to scan and are recognized very fast by the app, handy for attaching to items which can be difficult to identify without sighted help. It is also useful for those who are visually impaired to be able to scan codes upside down or vertically, something that other barcode scanning apps do not do. I believe the App could use a little more work as in having the ability to keep a record for export of scanned items for inventory purposes. I am eagerly awaiting further development of the app, and feel it is priced reasonably.
