Great features but I found Location services Always on. The only gripe is that during some app/system update the Location services was reset to Always on, and without my knowledge or permission. That’s a bit shady and looking at my battery consumption it was a major drain, all without my permission or knowledge. Features are great tho. UPDATE Dec 20: according to the app developer’s response there’s no way that the app itself can reset the Location/GPS setting as Apple provide a programmatic way to do that. Assuming that’s true, then I cannot explain how Location access was set to Always on. I had not launched the app in over a year but when I looked in the System Battery section the app had somehow become the second biggest drain due to the background Location process being always on. This corresponded in time to a recent app update I received. Based on the developer this isn’t their doing so all I can explain is what I found.

Not everything it was in the past.. I loved this app so much I purchased the Pro version. I’m an international pilot for a major airline and travel the world. I’m easily responsible for hundreds of subscribers as I have recommended it to anyone I flew with plus friends and family traveling abroad. It helped me pass along favorite, little known sight seeing spots and restaurants I had discovered on my many layovers. In Paris alone I had dropped over 100 “stars”. Then one day that all ended. Rumor has it that the original developer sold the product and did not transfer the database. For whatever reason, my stars were gone. I texted the managers but got no reply. I’m sure they were swamped with tons of the same question. I loved the app so much I gave them a pass. I started to rebuild my database of stars. Last month an iOS update “bricked” my iPhone XS. As I’m recovering my apps on my new iPhone 14, I download my CityMaps2Go app and once again my newly added stars are gone. If you’re looking for a trustworthy app that you can return to time after time, this is not the one for you. If you’re looking for something in the here and now, get from point A to point B it’s great (hence the 3 stars). **If, on your trip you drop a lot of location markers (stars), I recommend taking a screenshot just in case…..

No longer being updated? Not working well anymore…. I’ve been a CityMaps2Go user for almost 5 years now, I travel for work a lot and it’s been invaluable to save places I’ve been or want to go. However, CityMaps2Go doesn't seem to be updating, in the older pro version I previously bought when Ulmon was an independent company and now in this newer version and places that do show up on map are no longer selectable. For example, a friend just recommended a pub in Dublin. Searching by name in CityMaps came back with nothing, I had to Google Maps the address and then search by address in city maps. The pub shows by name on the map in CityMaps2Go when searching by address, but I am no longer able to tap on the name, and save a place like previous versions, I have to create a saved place, type in pub name, but can no longer save the address so to be useable to get there, I’d have to go back to Google and search for the address. Also, somewhere along the line, the add a place to CityMaps2Go and reviews feature disappeared. I’m not sure now how the scores come from because I do not know how to do it anymore! As it is now, as disappointing as it is to say, it’s not worth the money. Maybe somewhere along the line my app got corrupted, but I’d skip it. Using iPhone 13 Pro.

Best App for walking in cities. I have been using this app since 2016. It is so easy you use you can not get lost. You can download maps of cities around the world. You can put places you would like to visit, restaurants, hotels, shops and so many other things. You can see yourself as a dot moving on the map.

Download progress doesn’t display. When you go to download offline maps, know that you can’t see the download progress. Made me think that it wasn’t working at all until I tried downloading something, left the app in the background because progress was stuck at 0%, and it jumped from that to finished when I next opened it.

Great for travel. I use these maps on every trip. It works great without data. I didn’t come home to any extra charges. It has saved me from getting lost numerous times even in Venice. Since you can make a list of the places you want to go you can be sure that you don’t miss anything. 30+ countries and counting.

CityMaps2Go is essential. We travel a bit. One of the problems throughout the years has been being disoriented after emerging from the metro. With. CityMaps2Go that is a thing of the past. I use it all the time when traveling to foreign lands. You will love it!

Best for foreign travel without a cell data plan. Always knew exactly where we were at. Got on the wrong local train out of Pompeii and knew it immediately. Saved so much time and worry. Invaluable in Venice. I was able to help several who were using only paper maps. I don’t travel without it.

Long time user. Lost trust in Ulmon No longer a fan. Was a fan of this app - Until Ulmon decided to force the deletion all my visited location markers. Markers saved from many years of traveling the world. One update removed years of travel data with no chance of ever restoring the markers. I was a fully paid Pro customer too. Can see why this app is no longer kept updated or popular. Way to lose customers and become unpopular, get shelved or deleted. DKW

Thanks for ruining my day!. Hey Ulmon! Who is the genius who decided to erase everything on peoples existing accounts on the app? Normally I would give this five stars. But, when I went to my account today every single city that I have visited has been erased. This erases all the places I would want to revisit including restaurants, shops, sights etc. Also, it was extremely idiotic to get rid of the colored stars. The colored stars could differentiate sites versus restaurants etc. Now, if I do use this worthless app I will have a city filled with red stars. This is NOT helpful and actually ruins the whole functionality and benefit of the app. Please consider fixing this completely ridiculous change to the app. If there is a way that I can retrieve all of my things you erase I would like to know that as well. Good job making a really nice app turn into a piece of crap.

Maps App-marvelous. Used this app during a recent 2 week trip in the UK. Worked flawlessly. Saved us numerous times from getting totally lost driving around on back country roads. Seamless coordination with GPS was an outstanding alternative to Sat Nav in rental car.

I don't usually mind getting "lost" but.... See below this for my original review. This used to be a 4 star app. I just upgraded my phone, updated this app, and all my maps from around the world are gone! I paid for this app years ago, around a decade back, during a trip. I’m weeks away from my next and I have no maps. Very disappointed. +++ (Original review) A friend mentioned this app when I had newly arrived on a UK holiday and it made my day trips on foot so much smoother. The terrain didn't always match what I saw on paper maps but eventually I could find my blue dot on here and zoom out til I found my way again. I navigated Edinburgh and Oxford much easier. Even with local guides for Newcastle and London these maps were helpful. I would request more detailed small towns be added worldwide to make it more seamlessly connected, and the option to download by country and state (US) would greatly help. As a map lover, I found this app fun, and even open it occasionally in familiar places just to see how it functions or where my dot is!

It’s not just me!. On the crew bus now. Several of my flight attendants are looking at their CityMaps2Go app. They have all lost their pins as well. This is absolutely not OK. These have been traditionally relied upon for rendezvous spots in the interest of security. Unable to open the Support email. This has been a staple for flight crew navigation in unfamiliar foreign countries for over a decade. Maybe time to change the common app but this will be difficult with over 30,000 crewmembers.

My fav travel app.. I’ve been using this app for probably 6 yrs. best app I have on my phone. I love that I can read an article and immediately save any info I want to remember straight into this app. I also love that I can find my way around a foreign city even when I don’t ha w WiFi.

Latest version works well on iPhone. I’ve been a longtime user of this app family with hundreds of pins logged all over the world. Over the years, for various issues, I have gone back and forth between the “normal” and “Pro” versions of this app since they never seem to be both working at the same time. The non-Pro app decided to stop working for me while on a trip to Europe. I re-downloaded the Pro version and was quite happy that it worked and pulled all my lists from the cloud. Works offline too.

Super Handy. Downloaded and used maps of both Buenas Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay when we vacationed their. Being from the US, we couldn’t get phone service with our carrier. It was extremely helpful to be able to have maps without having internet. And I loved that I could mark places we were interested in visiting and restaurants we wanted to try and be able to bring them up on the maps when we were out and about. Love this app!

Mixed Emotions. I really would like to heartily endorse this $10 app, but can’t. It does have some utility, but isn’t particularly user friendly. The interface is opaque at times, the add on tips for restaurants, hotels, sights, available else gratis. They constantly want to up sell you for more $ for features that should have been included in the original upgrade purchase. Example: different icons, colors for spots on the downloaded maps. It can be useful where there is no wi-fi, but for directions, they throw the user into Google, etc. my suggestion? Throw in the upgrade, data mine the user input (with proper disclosure) and sell limited ads where applicable. Then you might have something worth the admission.

Excellent app for travelling !. I've been using this app since 1.5 years and I am 100% satisfied. Very clear maps, main information and sites available always on a off line application. The arrow with the distance from where you are to the sites (marked by you or am existing sites) works excellent. I use this app on many cities of South América and Europe (big cities, small towns and rural areas). Always work!

Very useful to plan trips and find your way around. One of my favorite apps to use for travel. I particularly like using the interactive map feature... it shows you where you are and has a little arrow that helps get you where you want to go. Thanks!

Great app, great customer service. *UPDATE* Upon posting my review, I was immediately contacted by the developer and given instructions on how to remedy the problem until such time the app could be updated in the App Store. I am very impressed with the responsiveness and customer service. It really is a great app and I used it extensively on the remainder of my trip. Still giving 4* for crashing on my vacation, but my confidence in this app has definitely been restored and will continue to rely upon it for future trips knowing the developer stands behind the product. *ORIGINAL* Used this app to map out our 2 week vacation in Italy. On day 2, app crashed and would not load despite rebooting phone and reinstalling app. All travel plans were lost. Completely disappointed.

CityMaps2Go Pro. Well, for several years, it was a great app. It worked off-line without WiFi or cellular. As a pilot for an international airline, I would often share screenshots of various cities with their restaurants and points of interest with friends and colleagues. And I’ve been to dozens of countries. No more! None of my maps display. Multiple updates, deletes and reloads haven’t been effective. I’ve emailed the company asking for help and received nothing. Customer service is completely unacceptable. If you want an exercise in frustration, this app’s for you. NOT Happy. :-(

Hi I’ve had this app for years and a few months ago you kept sending me messages asking me to change to City Maps2go as you were dropping this app. I wrote to you to clarify and you confirmed this in your mail. Love this app!. I love this app for offline maps, the ability to make lists of places I’ve been that I can share across devices, and especially that I can tell where I am even without a data signal! Used this all over Europe with no phone service and it worked like a charm!

Indispensable!. I love this app! Download a map before you go and you’ll never be at the mercy of the internet. This is especially useful when traveling abroad when you might not have a data plan. I also love the functionality that allows you to keep a record of your trip … where you’ve been, photos, notes, etc. It’s also useful for making a list of the places you’re planning to visit; you can save these on the map and refer to it when you arrive. So useful!

Downloaded maps disappear. It seems every time I try to view a map that I’ve downloaded when I am off the Internet nothing shows up. I’ve downloaded Paris I’ve downloaded New York I’ve downloaded Chicago I’ve downloaded New Orleans; what every time I am off the Internet these maps fail to show up on my phone. Part of the reason I chose this app is that I could use the off-line map.I’ve got lots of memory on my phone so I could download and use these maps. But that doesn’t seem to be happening.

Excellent app!. I’ve been using the Pro version in Venice and find it excellent. It’s very helpful in navigating complicated streets, I’m really depending on it here. I like that it also shows landmarks. The nap can expand to show a lot of detail and contract to get a wider view. The arrow on the blue dot showing my location even turns as I change the way I’m facing, even if I’m not moving, a helpful feature in general, also when you have no idea which way you’re headed. The map visually is very clear and shows a lot of tiny streets, seems very accurate. It also followed my journey very well on a long boat ride to an island, helped me to identify other islands along the way and to know when I had reached my stop. For me, it’s very useful and well worth the price!

Like Ulmon City Maps Pro. We are Minnesotan’s traveling in Scotland and Russia. We are using Verizon iPhones and have purchased a $70 for one month travel plan in Europe for each phone. We don’t really understand about how much data we’re using, and we’re petrified about using too much data. With the Ulmon City Maps Pro while home we downloaded maps of the areas we’re traveling. These maps reside on our iPhones and iPads. When I open up the map of St Petersburg and environs the map come up quickly and the GPS function shows me my location with the cell data off and I think wi though a WiFi connection. No sweat about data usage. Sweet. Jerry Hendel.

Amazing for travel. I have been using Ulmon for years it’s and amazing map app. You can make places you want to see and places you have been. Just download the map you want and your are good to go offline.

Update: not keeping up with iOS. CityMaps2Go was the one app I recommended more than any other. I urged people to buy the pro version. I have used this app for more than a decade, in probably 50 or more countries. In 2021, however, I had an extremely glitchy experience - not in a less developed country, but in Maine, USA. After that, the app recovered slightly. But with the upgrade to iOS 16, and now 16.2, the app does not function. It still works on my old iPad, which is at an earlier iOS.

Off line a key feature for me. The downloadable maps really made a difference for a family trip to Portugal and Spain this summer. Coming from the states and not having an unlimited amount of data called for an off-line resource, to which this hit the spot. Never got lost, and when we were connected to Wi-Fi simply clicking on a city, town, or point of interest brought up some basic facts of the area. Thanks.

Really makes cities more interesting.. I have used this in Leuven, Berlin, and Krakòw. I like being able to mark where I have been. Also my battery lasts for really long walk-a-bouts whereas other maps run it down. The detail is amazing. I like the security of having my maps in my phone in case my cell data is interrupted.

Excellent off-line map for overseas travel. I recently used this app for a trip to Japan, where Google map does not allow me to download an off-line map. It helped me to navigate through several cities without WiFi connection. I was quite satisfied with the performance. One minor complaint is it does not cover the remote areas or small towns as well.

Maps no longer loading. I was looking at the app while flying and all maps disappeared that had been downloaded for offline use. Once I landed I had hoped they would load but the do not-whether I am on line or off line. All of my saved points of interest are still there, but no maps Please help me restore them.

Good Travel Planner, Close to Great. Really good tool for planning a trip, being able to add items to the map is wonderful, as is map download for use during the trip without using data. I’m getting better at learning how to most efficiently use the tool, e.g. how to search for activities and places from within the app. A tutorial or two on how to accomplish this would be very helpful. I also haven’t yet learned a good way to share the map and added items with my partner so they can add items also. But all in all, I find it very useful for planning international trips. It would also be nice to have a notepad built in, also share-able

Cabo trip!!!. I downloaded this app and used it while my son and I were in Cabo San Lucas. We went up north into the mountains and used this app to find some waterfalls and Hot Springs. This map app was highly accurate. Even though I had No cell service while we were there it would still track our location as we headed out into the mountains and back with great accuracy. I can’t say enough good things about this app.

Great app for keeping track of places. I can only give this 4 out of 5 as it used to be better. Excellent app for saving locations and making different list for the varieties of activities and/or travel itineraries. I do have to knock it down a notch for the search feature. It is maddening when to cannot find a location to put in your list. I have typed in the exact spelling of a famous site as posted in the Citymapper map, only to have the results come up zero. Okay also hate that it can no longer click on the name sites on the maps to add to lists. This used to be easy, and now it’s a bummer. Still, it’s better than google maps for saving locations for future reference.

Many useful maps. Even when I don’t have WiFi access, the map spots and tracks my position so I can tell if I’m going in the right direction. It was well worth the price to be able to maintain multiple maps on my phone and iPad. Or so computer savvy, so downloading maps was not easy education and I don’t do it often enough to remember the process.

Offline bug, update needed!. App was overhauled by Ulmon a year ago and a bug was introduced that required app to be online before offline maps would appear. If you try to access app offline, it would corrupt and not display maps at all, even when back online. App would have to be deleted and reinstalled, with downloaded maps lost. Difficult to redownload when offline in the middle of a trip. Unfortunately, Ulmon was sold to third-party company and bug has not yet been fixed. No updates from new company. Sad, used to be best travel app in market.

Worthwhile purchase.. After using the free version for a vacation in London I liked CityMaps2Go so much I bought the paid one. I’m impressed by the level of detail. When I zoom in I can see the shapes of buildings, with street numbers, and the names of businesses inside with symbols to show restaurants, hotels, pubs, etc. I use it often for advance planning, like checking if a hotel is conveniently near a subway station. When you use it onsite it gives you a “You Are Here” symbol to help you navigate. I had it on during a ferry ride from Boston to Salem, Mass, and it tracked our progress on the water. I love that it works offline so I’m not using up my data. I have had no problems using it with with my older IPad. I highly recommend it!

Nonexistent customer service. UPDATE: Customer service is STILL MIA. Word to the wise: DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS APP. I have tried to contact customer service 4 times regarding an issue. There has been ZERO response. When the app works, it’s great. When you need help - forget it. If customer service reads these reviews, look for the communication below. You’ve got at least four copies. I was logged in to my premium account through Facebook. I got kicked off. When I try to log back in using Facebook, the app won’t allow me in. When I get in through my Apple ID, none of my lists appear. Please advise ASAP as we are traveling soon.

Loved this app until recent update. I upgraded to “pro” years ago to have unlimited maps downloaded. I had hundreds of stars with notes saved on my maps. After an update, all my maps were gone. Would love to know how to retrieve all maps with stars. It like I lost my photos

Doesn’t work well without internet access. I bought CityMaps, so it could download country maps (did that) and then access them when I don’t have access to internet while travelling but know where I am by following the strobing blue ball (‘You are here). Doesn’t work. Won’t open and present downloaded maps. Unsatisfied customer.

Great in Scandinavia. We were in Scandinavia for 3 weeks and time and again this offline map site was the one that provided accuracy and dependability. I have 2 other offline map apps on my phone but City Maps was best.

update: having problems. I believe I purchased this app (years ago as a “one time only purchase” and had been using it a lot. Now, after a long period, I have gone back and ALL my downloaded maps are gone. No explanation, no warning and now I am supposed to pay (again) if I want to use this app. I think that is really underhanded and dishonest. The maps themselves were great, but why should I buy this yet again and have all my maps disappear at some point in the future without warning? Not transparent at all. The maps have been reloaded BUT they do not work offline! This was the whole point of my downloading them. if I am connected, then yes, great…but if I am in the car? The ones I have downloaded just come up blank. Not sure I can recommend this app anymore.

Review. Couldn’t be better. Does not require Wi-Fi using GPS. Has excellent suggestions, can enter comments on sites, has Wikipedia references has location, phone numbers and web sites of attractions, has for some cities metro locations on the city maps, easy to use walking to sites a great variety of cities.

Horrible app—just wasted $30 on it.. I am in Lisbon at the moment, a d do not have data. So I downloaded the CityMaps2Go Pro version for $30. It’s been HORRIBLE. Works for a half hour away from wi-fi then quits. I kept having to find wi-fi in coffee shops, etc., so it would start working again. Quits a half hour or so later. I’ve been lost all day. Finally said Screw It and bought a paper maps. CityMaps owes me my $30 back and a few hundred more for my lost time and aggravation. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!

Not so good. I’ve had the Pro version for years. I travel a lot and have saved many sites in different cities. The functionality of the app changed after it changed ownership. When I search for some sites now in a city, it gives me results in various other countries not related to my search. These are not obscure searches, but rather points of interest that are easy to find on other maps. I’ve emailed the developer and haven’t received a response. It’s too bad because this app was great, now it’s just ok at best.

Worse than it used to be. I’ve used this app for years. It was great but in the past few years it has gotten worse. I can no longer load the offline maps I already have on my phone unless I’m near WIFI. I have to preload it before I go anywhere. I also cannot search for street names like I could before. I think that the developers have crippled it

The best!. Maps and interface are constantly updated. Amazing selection of maps and the developers take a personal interest in your satisfaction. Invaluable when teamed with Iphone GPS while traveling.

Does not work all the time. I have found that my downloaded maps don’t always show maps when not connected to WiFi. I have a apple iPhone and 10 years ago had no trouble but now intermittent

Awesome app!. This is a great app which I used extensively in my last holiday to France and Italy. I Just downloaded the provinces/departements I planned to visit and I was able to know my exact location wherever I went. Even when I was hiking in The Alps. Since the app uses the iPhone's inbuilt GPS you don't need to have Internet access to use it (or empty your wallet with global roaming). There was nothing better than dropping a pin on my hotel and just exploring Rome knowing that whatever little side alley I went down I could always get home again. I highly recommend this app to all travellers of the world.

Very good but room for improvement. There’s a few annoying things but overall is very useful. I’ve used it for about 7 years. Little symbols with numbers appear on items of interest but the symbols are very small and the numbers aren’t accessible. What are they for? Is there some index? Some improvements I’m sure the users would pay for include showing or accessing the GPS coordinates, leaving breadcrumbs, showing or accessing altitude (elevation). Please consider. After last update my off line maps don’t display unless I have previously and contiguously been connected to the internet. In other words, if I turn it on without it being on the net, the downloaded offline maps won’t display. Why has this changed? Now in June 2023 the app has totally failed. Maps will not show. I am very angry.

Good at determining location. I just went to Marrakech and found this app was able to show my location very well (while offline too!), compared to google maps which got totally lost. Being able to download the maps and use them offline is great. I like that you can mark and categorise by colour your locations of interest on the map. I did find however that it wouldn’t find some locations (restaurants, sights, etc) when I searched for them, so perhaps they could update their data. Plus I found sometimes due to translation a place name might have several different spellings, but the app could only find it if you searched one specific spelling. Also I downloaded the info packages about each place I visited but they didn’t seem to work for me when I was offline. But ultimately the app was a good tool to find your way around without using data

Get it- very worth having!. This app is so useful for travel! I've been living in Laos and was recommended this app from day 1. In a location that can often leave you wondering where you are and how to get home, without the local language, this app gives you confidence! You don't need to use 3G Data, it can track your position with good accuracy. You are also able to add locations of personal interest- 'where the hell was that coffee shop/ ATM/ market/ mechanic..' Easy- drop a pin, create a tag, even take a photo, and it will be saved next time you are in wifi. Get this app.

Chews up battery. I have settings to be uses data whilst using app but even though I don’t have app open, it’s still chewing up the battery. Also, there is now way to download offline maps other than one by one. Way too slow/tedious. If going to Germany, I should be able to select all of Germany or multiple maps in one hit.

Easy maps. Download a city you are in in your hotels free wifi first and you can then go out and about using the map and your phone or iPad GPS and never get lost! It's brilliant!! Wouldn't be without it while traveling. David J.

Don’t buy. A worst paid application I have ever seen. Don’t buy and waste your money.

Very sad. I used this for many years now all my memories and photos are gone .I understand you took over the company I am happy to pay again as long as all my trips are reinstalled Can you please respond

No Maps, No go. Accessible, needed, who would travel "blind". Very difficult to travel with paper maps, they also scream "tourist" to all pickpockets etc. These electronic maps are easier to use, less obvious, as everyone looks at phones, pads etc. always with you if your electronic devices are, and they are.

The only app you'll need. Just spent six weeks travelling through Europe, I had a bunch of travel apps downloaded, this was the only one I couldn't have done without. It made finding our accommodation a breeze to find and had great info on where to find travel necessities like ATMs,pharmacies, grocery stores etc.. Being able to pin places on the go so I could find them again with ease was invaluable. The only thing I would suggest you add is being able to locate street numbers for all locations. I stayed in a lot of apartments so knowing exactly where on the street the apartment was was pretty important. It's an easy work around though if you zoom up on the maps you can see the street numbers once you have located it. I would say to any traveller, don't leave without this app, it's amazing and the wiki links are awesome to learn about what's close by and any major tourist attractions. 5 stars without a doubt

Have map go anywhere. So easy to find a place and see what else is around there. The app includes reviews and articles and has family sharing too.

Simple and convenient. I find this the most useful app to plan my travelling itinerary. It is easy to file hotels and sites I want visit using the colour coding system. Even obscure sites can be easily found once you scan in. Once I have downloaded the maps for the countries I want visit I do all my planning and keep my notes on this app in advance. There are other more complex travel apps that I use but CityMaps2Go is my preferred planner.

Not as advertised. Was advertised as paid iPhone apps for free but after installing it asks me to upgrade to premium

Travel Aus.. Appears to very easy to use, can’t wait to use it when we travel.

A great off-line map app. Lots of major city maps that can be downloaded at home and then used without internet connection. Used this app as a tourist in London and in Paris and found it really helpful. As a local I use it in Sydney often and it’s good (it's also got a surprisingly detailed map of all of NSW that I use on road trips. Another good point is that it seems to use local wifis to determine your location, so this works even on an iTouch. This is not reliable, but in residential areas it’s got a good chance of being able to tell you where you are; I’m not sure how this works, but it’s sometimes quite useful.

Upgrade disappointment. I have successfully used and relied on this app overseas for offline maps and it has got me out of trouble many times, but after this latest update (2021) my past maps are no longer on my phone, and cannot even down load any new maps required for Australia. This is a huge disappointment.

Downloads not working. I am on WiFi and just tried downloading an offline map for use later, and it didn’t work. Just stalled.

Love it.. Best offline maps on AppStore. Been using this app for over 10 years and it is a lifesaver.

Doesn’t work offline. If you download a map, turn off cellular and wifi, kill the app and reopen, the map doesn’t show at all. The app is completely unfit for purpose

A real lifesaver!. Like so many others, we were the victim of Apple/A.T.&T.’s unbelievable policy which wouldn't let us activate a 3G data card for our iPad whilst visiting the US from Australia without a US based credit card even though we paid in advance! But this brilliant program, which allowed us to download in advance maps for the cities we were visiting, allowed us to use the built-in GPS as we roamed the streets without a 3G data connection. Would have given it 5 stars except that the maps aren't as good as they could be. It is frustrating that when you zoom in to read the name of a street the writing gets smaller or disappears altogether instead of getting bigger. But still, a great idea and well worth the money!

I used to love this App but now it’s unreliable and unhelpful.. The offline maps don’t work or are unreliable and looking up places, even city museums, no longer come up in searchers. I’m so disappointed as I used to recommend this app to so many people. Now I’m looking for an alternative.

Keeps asking me to use the latest version of the App. This has been a very good app over the last five or so years we’ve been using it. However it now prompts me to use the latest version of the app every single time I open it which is what I have - at least, when I search in the App Store the only ones are the Pro, which I have, and the free one with adds - and I don’t really want to go back to adds!

Don’t get it. Crashes constantly, now no maps appear. Multiple requests for assistance go unanswered.

Trouble downloading offline maps. Downloads don’t always work properly.

Essential tourist aid. Great app that lets you download detailed city maps and together with GPS allows you to navigate as a pedestrian with ease and certainty. As the maps have been downloaded no expensive roaming data charges are incurred. For some cities it also downloads tourist information via Wikipedia so you don't need to join expensive and crowded tour groups. Excellent app. We have tried it in major cities and small and works well in each. It is particularly useful when in countries with long words as printed maps from concierges has much too small print where we can expand the view easily on this app. Used the Wikipedia download to great use in Prague!

Best navigation. Have used all over Europe, Asia, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia for several years. Brilliant and particularly for finding the way back to your hotel in an unfamiliar city!

Disappointing!. I’ve used this app on a number of European trips over the past 10 or so years. It’s been brilliant. However, having used it now on a current trip, I have to say whatever the developers have done in recent times has degraded the app. Most of the time now, unless you’re connected to wi-fi the map screen comes up blank (i.e. white). Yes, I’ve tried all the usual ‘re-start the app’ and ‘ensure your software is updated’ tips, but to no avail. So the concept of using this app as a reliable, offline map source is now nonsense. Sadly, I’ll have to look for an app now that’s more dependable. I certainly wouldn’t recommend this app to anyone while it’s in its current state.

Great travel companion. Fantastic app! I used it in Japan to get around Tokyo. It is very helpful to navigate between train stations and visit specific locations (you can place pins of different categories for different points of interest) and it comes with a compass, similar to that of apple or google maps, but significantly better. The compass does not seem to require data to work, as I didn't have any data while in Tokyo and I was still able to use it (though I did have international roaming activated, without data). Great app! Highly recommend it, at least if travelling to Tokyo.

Use google maps. With every update you will end up struggling to keep your saved data...v frustrating so just use google & save the hassle

HELP. I have used this App for many years travelling all over the world with it, recorded where I went why, places yet to go and why, and loved it, AND recommended it to many people. HOWEVER….I have now seemingly lost everything, maps, lists, data, everything. As have those I recommended it to. I have emailed them twice with no reply. Any help to recover everything would be most appreciated.

Must have. On my recent trip to Spain I was travelling from city to city by train. The most difficult and stressful part was getting to my hotel from the station, dragging my luggage wheels over interesting and varying terrain, and unwilling to shell out 10€ for journeys under 2km. However, Lonely Planet maps are unusable and until you actually find your hotel and ask for a map, you don't have a map! This app fills an important niche because you don't need to be connected to the internet to use it. I used this app on my iPad and always successfully made it to where I wanted to go. It takes a little getting used to though. You need to hit the navigation pointer in the top right corner for GPS to find you on the map. It's also a good idea to 'pin' your destinations. Once I figured out the app, which wasn't that hard, I found it invaluable. Even if you do have a paper map, or prefer paper maps, this app provides a safety net for when you just can't figure out where you are, which for me is most of the time.

A must-have app for travelling. This really is my favourite, and indispensable, travel app. The locations of attractions, shops, etc. are handy, but most useful of all are the detailed maps of just about everywhere, accessible from anywhere. Combine these with the fact that you can use your iOS device's GPS even when completely offline – even in flight mode – to work out where you are and in what direction you are facing and you will never be lost again. Today I have been walking around tiny streets and lanes in Chiang Mai, Thailand, well away from tourist areas, and using City Maps 2Go on my iPhone I have been able to do so in complete confidence. It completely changes my approach to travel.

Generally works well. This is a useful map when you haven’t got data or wifi.I’ve used city maps 2 go in several Australian states, and across Asia and Europe - very handy. I’ve found that it isn’t as comprehensive or as up to date as Google maps for hotels and restaurants. Also you can’t look up street addresses using the search function when offline.

Love it. I downloaded app yesterday and requested maps for Bamako, Mali and Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Within 11 hours I received a reply to tell me they will upload my maps during the next few days. Fantastic service. It has always been so difficult to find good maps for these places and I have spent a fortune buying GPS and maps for West Africa. Many areas still do not have digital maps although Garmin are working hard to get all of Africa covered. This is a great solution for me. The maps are small and do not have full detail but they are great for the quick business trip. Thank you so much guys.

A good map app. Have used this app in Ethiopia, Japan and Sydney. Very easy to add places. Helped greatly.

Won’t Load. Maps won’t load offline after being downloaded.

Most important travel app I use. Having traveled to over 40 different cities around the world with this app on my phone I have come to realised it is the most important thing I pack. The ease of downloading individual maps and then deleting them saves a huge amount of memory. I love the ability to pin mark locations like you accommodation. The new feature of making lists of types of pins is useful. My favourite function is being able to find yourself on the map. This has saved me hundreds of times all around the world. This app is a must for any traveler.

Don't leave home without this app!!. Due to horrific data charges on my phone whenever I go overseas I remove my sim... This app is perfect as I download the maps I need and the inbuilt GPS indicates my location when I open the app. I have travelled all over the world using this app - even totally off the beaten track. Just today I boarded a bus in Berlin that I hoped was heading in the correct direction and used the app to follow the bus route so I knew to get off the bus when it started to head in the wrong direction, and then used the app to find out where the closest train was located. Lots of shops, attractions, etc are include in the app which is very handy when you are unable to locate something you know is close by. You can mark your destination and follow your progress using the GPS. The Wiki articles are also interesting when on holiday... I could not leave home without this app, it has saved us so many times when we have been heading in wrong direction...

Useless. This used to be an amazing travel app. We used it to travel in tens of the largest cities. We never got lost. I had hundreds of saved places in lists. Whatever was done to the app lost all my data. Nothing could bring it back. I had to re-download maps. I decided to try one more time on a current trip. The app is simply unreliable now. On a number of occassions opening the map simply gave a blank screen with a blue dot. Also the number of places indexed to search has vastly diminished. Most searches resulted in a useless set of results from thousands of kms away. I will be deleting this app once I post this review.

This App has become unusable. Having used this package for many years, it has now completely stopped working. We cannot access our downloaded maps, nor delete then re-download the required maps. Over many years we have sung the praises of what was a magnificent package, and feel exceedingly disappointed that even our Pro version is not working.

Offline functions gone!. Recently went to an area where I unexpectedly lost all reception and needed navigation, started this app only to find a big BLANK SCREEN where the map should be! Thankfully was able to navigate my way home without it... Upon returning, checked the app, the map for my area WAS downloaded!! Did some testing, put my phone (iPhone 11 Pro Max) into Airplane mode, zip, no maps! The MOMENT I turned airplane off and it acquired cellular, maps INSTANTLY appeared!!! If I could give this 0 stars, I would!!!

Good job. Haven't used it a lot. Has as much detail as on line maps, but works without WiFi. Makes me happy, especially when I out of the country. Thanks. Just have to remember to get the maps you want while you have access to wi-for!

Excellent value for decent maps. We have been able to download maps from all over the world for the initial modest cost of the app. We are happy enough with the quality, despite some occasional inaccuracies. A very good buy for the world traveller. Some issues when using offline. We generally have to have the app open and have recently used it just before closing or losing wifi. Otherwise the offline maps will not open.

It was great. This app used to be fantastic but the last 2 trips I took it would not load the map offline! The first time I thought maybe it was me, so found some wifi, redownloaded the map it said everything was fine and voila, cannot see anything when offline. So frustrating! Absolutely essential for travel. I travel a lot in new and unfamiliar cities. This app is essential in navigating a new place. Probably my single most used app.

Maps. Although I have the pay version and it had worked for me in the US and Brazil, I was extremely disappointed to the point of deleting the app that the offline maps never loaded or worked in any of the cities I was travelling in Europe

No offline service. The app claims to work offline but my downloaded maps never show without a WiFi connection. Totally useless without WiFi or cell service.

Used be be a great app. Used to be my go-to offline map app but an update this year has ruined it. Even with a downloaded offline map, the app will show a blank screen unless you have a data or wifi connection to initially bring up the map. It used to just show up even with no service. Email bounces and website support form is broken. Don’t waste your money.

Never available offline. I have the pro and regular version of this app. Have had it for ages. Same issue every time. Unless I am connected to wifi or data my downloaded maps never show up. It’s very frustrating. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app and no change. I may as well stick to google maps.

Fantastic Offline Map. This is the best app for maps when you go offline (no data or service). Comes in super handy when I do northern remote canoe trips. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting maps, not just offline either I use it daily as a replacement to my regular mapping app.

Data hacked and NOT offline anymore. My personal info was leaked through your data hacked, No notification from YOU, found out though a third party. The app was purposely made NOT to work offline with the new update. My old phone with the old version works perfectly without data or wifi. Had been using for years and the new update is a complete GARBAGE. Don’t waste your time and energy here. I do not normally write review but this one is an exception. Thanks for screwing up your app. Minus five stars.

Used to be a great app, now useless. I have been using this app for years and it was great but now the new owners of this app are not updating it, so you can’t open your downloaded maps offline anymore, which makes it useless in its purpose since you need a network to see your maps. Also, I tried to reach the support email several times but never got any answer. Until this app is properly updated, do not spend money on this!!!

Awesome. This is a great app for offline maps while in Japan. It was great for preplanned sites. Lacks some locations offline. Direction icon points in the wrong direction. Improvement: The map rotate to direction up.

Hacked?. There’s no way to actually contact you with an issue that appears my email address which is unique to your service has been used without permission to get spam mail from a .ru address. 1) online website no longer appears to have any links to send a support email. 2) online website support form is non functional- this is on IOS 14 Safari and MacOS 10.15 Safari. Attempt to contact you thru this app for help just redirects to the non functional support page on your site. Please update your support pages to work with IOS 14 Safari and also please investigate why your customer email addresses are being used by Russian spammers. Thanks

Not recommended. Bought this app years ago and used it often when travelling overseas with linited data. Offline mode workwd flawlessly. In 2022, tried to use it in San Francisco and map was blank. Cld not use it. Tried again todY with my home location and map remains blank. Very disappointed. Several recent reviews make same conplaint. Please fix the app.

Worthless - was great!!!. The CityMaps2Go PRO app has been great to me for many years. Lately the offline is not working at all. No maps offline and neither with cell network, neither with wifi. Below is my May 2014 review. The best map in Airplane mode This App amazed me! FIRST open the compass app for the GPS in your phone knows where in the world you are. During a trip to Las Vegas I didn't want to incur in expensive Rogers (Canada) rooming plan and I was able to know where in the map I was at all times. While I was on the Strip I was on Airplane mode and the CityMaps2Go guide me flawless. Even while I was inside a mall. Highly recommended. The more I use it the more I like it. You can find transit, food, hotels and hospitals in overlays of the maps. Buy it, you won't regret it!!!!

Use City maps to go all the time. A great app. It lets us wander where we want in strange lands and always find our way home. Always use it when traveling.

Downloaded maps not reliable anymore. Used Ulmon Pro for several years, lately when I travel somewhere and go out, I open an offline map and it’s blank. Same settings I’ve always used and I do go through the hassle of updating every downloaded map after an ios update. Had to switch to a different map app. Maps only work with wifi or data.

Used to be way better. This app has gotten worse over time. I’m ditching this app because it is missing many attractions and misleads you. As an example, I used this app outside of Akihabara station in Japan, in an effort to get directions to one of the worlds largest electronics store. The location wasn’t in the list of “articles.” I am a premium subscriber and have been for years. I can truly say that they’re are far better apps out there, even if you don’t have any type of data connection. So long ulmon!

City Maps to Go. I have a number of downloaded maps stored on my phone with numerous points of interest pinned on them. Unfortunately, a number of months ago the the maps stopped populating when I opened the app. My saved locations are there, however, there is no map underneath them. I’ve been hoping that the company would fix this issue, however, they haven’t. I have sent a number of emails, and the responses from the company have been limited and weak.

Terrible search function. I’ve downloaded the offline maps to use while travelling and out of nowhere it decided to not work. I tried updating the maps and re downloading them and still nothing. Also, searching simple and popular things result in absolutely nothing. For $20 you would think it would be reliable. Very disappointed!

Love this app!. We’ve used this app all over the world and it’s saved us numerous times! It’s user friendly and accurate.

CityMaps2Go Pro. Great app! Use this app all the time when travelling. I load up maps on the iPhone and use it mostly off-line so I don’t have to burn through my phone’s data plan when overseas. If you’re going to be travelling, this is one app to make sure you have on your iPhone or iPad.

Does Not Work Offline.. The need for directions offline is the only reason to use this. It used to work offline but it no longer does. Downloaded maps do not open when needed.

Useful … but sometimes there’s bugs. I use it mostly when traveling and download all the required maps so it’s easy to plan my trip and get around without internet acces. I got a couple of bugs though, the offline maps weren’t working and were blank when I used them. I had to delete the app and all its data and reinstall it a couple of times, including downloading the maps again.

My fav map app!!. My all time fav maps app! I’ve been using it for years as I’m a flight attendant & it has saved all of my fav places year after year. Plus I use it in airplane mode & can still use it to guide myself around cities worldwide! Never get lost!

Used to the best, now worst. I really liked this app. It was one of the best offline maps. Unfortunately the company stopped taking care of the app and the company sold this app and since then this app dies on a slow dead. Useless, waste of money and bandwidth. The name of this app is misleading. You cannot use this app offline other than viewing the map. When you press “get directions” it redirects you to open Apple or Google maps, neither should f which works offline. It defeats the purpose of having an “offline map” if it has to open another mapping program for turn-by-turn directions. Save your money and storage space. Look elsewhere. This app is useless.

Maps No Longer Work. I used to rely on this app for international travel. Now, the downloaded maps don't even appear in the app, or if they do, you cannot use them offline. Big disappointment after loving and depending on this app for so long.

Stick to great maps in lieu of marketing local attractions. Enjoy the quality maps, but the Map2GO AP keeps “spamming” me with tips on what it thinks I would enjoy to see. Having unsolicited mini trip advisor popping up continually is a waste and distraction.

Doesn’t work offline. I’ve been using this app for years and suddenly it stops working when I’m offline with no data/WiFi. The maps will load up blank so this app is pretty much useless at this point. I’ve emailed their support but no response. Don’t waste your money

PA-MD Road Warrior. Stable and responsive. Better alternative to Google My Maps, but is still lacking a webpage mapping interface. Unlimited number of points to save and recall. Directions available in Apple Maps & Google Maps.

update lost all my “saved” maps and locations. This had been a useful app - but I responded to an email from city maps to go offering an upgrade, downloaded it from the app store, and found that all my data from the previous app had been lost. Be warned!

diffucult. Even though you bought this for one city, when you enter a street or location for the city you are in, it shows results for city all over the world. Making very difficult to get quick results. deleted and used Citymapper.

Used to be awesome until it crashed. This app used to be amazing until it stopped allowing me to download maps. I paid for the pro version, my phone is updated and the app is updated, but downloads never actually start. Haven’t for a long time now. Probably time to delete the app since it doesn’t work and I can’t seem to get any tech support,

No offline maps. I’m not sure if it’s the hack or the iPhone update (iOS 14), but I can no longer get offline maps. The blue dot appears on a blank screen when outside of wifi range. I’ve been using the paid version of PRO for years and I really liked it. Please fix this!

Practical and useful. Great app to use to have quick accurate access to the map of the country you’re traveling in.

Why two maps. When I first downloaded your app it was The Free App of The Day in Apple Now you tell me to pay and delete the one you gave me WHY???? After you gave it away in ITunes n Apple You should never be able to take it back or try to make everyone PAY! That’s so Wrong of YOU!!!!!

Disappointed. I always used this app, prior to COVID. Now traveling again after 2 years, was so disappointed.I had to re download the map every time I left hotel wifi. If I forgot to reload the map, when I was out of wifi range I just had my circle icon on a blank screen. No map.

No longer works offline. App doesn’t load maps offline. I redownloaded all my maps but offline you can’t see them. And absolutely zero product support. Even purchased the app again and gecos loaded. Nothing. Save your money. Try something else.

Does not work offline. I used to be able to use this offline but I don’t know since when it doesn’t work any more. It would not show the downloaded maps when i have no internet connection, it requires me to get online once first, completely defeats the purpose of offline maps

Awesome App. I use it in every city I travel to visit. It's great for discovering restaurants, mapping travel, and seeing the sights. I highly recommend the App.

Great for use in Spain!. The maps of Seville, Granada, Bilbao and San Sebastián, all available through the “Spain” map have been really helpful. Great for offline locations of museums, restaurants, and just getting around!

Perfect for travelers. I’m writing this review because we got lost in the Gobi desert last week without proper maps. This app single handedly got us out of the desert alive. 10/10 would recommend for any world traveler

Love this app. I have used this for a few years in the US and Europe. Perfect. My wife and I drove Southern England/Wales a few years ago. We were often on the wrong road, we were never lost.

Just ok.. Good, not great. Complimentary on time upgrade to Pro deleted ill my saved places even though the pop-up states all information and saved places would transfer to Pro. Nothing transferred.

Offline map trouble. I cannot open an offline map that I purchased unless I do it when I am online. Then if I mistakenly close the app, the map disappears until I can get back online. This was a huge issue in Europe when I didnt have cell coverage. I thought the whole purpose of having an offline map was so that it would be available offline!

Handy!. Love this app! Walking directions, driving directions, and more. Easy to use. It's always my go-to app when I travel😉.

Very handy. Nice to be able to view maps without needing cell data service. New versions have made the app even more useful. Now that I am using the new version, it would be useful if it stopped telling me to use the new version every time I start the app.

Love it!. I tested it out on a trail in rural Italy on a hairpin turn in the trail and it nailed it perfectly. I would just download maps from where we expected to be from WIFI in my hotel and never used cell data.

Great offline maps. We used this in Ireland this pay April. It was great since we did not have data to still be able get around.

Dora’s map!. Great to use even offline. It still helps guide you with what appears to be an internal compass. Had to get it after my sister-in-law used it while we were in Italy last year. Worth the $$! (And I never write reviews!)

Fast offline map. I use this map 5-6 times a month in various US and European cities. Always there and easy to use.

Handy. Great when you don’t have wireless coverage. Comprehensive selection of maps.

Where's my stuff?. First—I really like this app. BUT, I have (on my phone, and it was on my iPad) the pro version, and now on my iPad, it's only the Basic version. I've lost all my maps, etc.—so not a happy camper, and really don't want to pay for "pro" again if it may just disappear... So, I can't recommend this app at present, which is truly a shame. I don't believe I had ever registered with them though, which the app now says is necessary to keep your maps and notes.

Excellent London map. This map was indispensable on my trip to London. It never steered me wrong and couldn’t have been easier to use. The inclusion of the subway map made it even better. Many thanks!

Great Travel Resources. So much travel material with this single app it is unbelievable! It may not have the most detailed material, but it more than makes up for it with the shear volume and variety of material it provides. The real plus is that it will lead you to want to visit places you never thought or heard of. WINDERFUL!

Great App. I have used this app and really like it. It is very helpful especially when one is traveling in a foreign country.

Great when it works. Over the years i have encountered a few snafus which eventually were worked out Then apparently the system completely shut down but i see it is back up. BUT. NOT able to get all the saved worldwide places from years of travel. I guess it’s too much to expect anything last past initial use these days
