Epicurious Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

Disappointed with newer versions. I had this app from the very beginning! It used to offer downloaded grocery lists, which you could check what you have in stock before buying, and would let you easily print. Now you have to use the website version (not the app) to print and there is no grocery list! What a waste of time and money. I think this company got greedy with recipes that have been in their storage for YEARS, then charge a ridiculous monthly fee to only get basics, like just reading and searching for recipes. I subscribed to the digital magazines, and couldn’t download any recipes from there, I had to get the app, and STILL, can’t print recipes unless I use the website. So LAME, not interested. Shame on you for making this expensive and NOT USER FRIENDLY.

Please improve your app so it functions in a manner appropriate to this decade!. First: I have loved Epicurious and used it often. Second: the app is very disappointing. Since I don’t take my laptop into the kitchen when cooking, you’d think the app would be fully functional. My main complaint is that it doesn’t allow for reviews. I rely on others reviews in choosing recipes to play with, so like to leave my own without having to login in on a different device. In addition, the “fork ratings” of recipes are not consistent between the website and the app! Tonight I made a 4 fork recipe from the app that was subpar, and when I went to review it realized it was rated much lower on the full website. They really need to fix these deficiencies. I’ll look for another site that allows you to search and save things to a recipe box now. This one simply isn’t good enough. Update: Oh and great! Now the app won’t even function to allow logins for the old recipes saved there! Keeps bumping me back to the login page. I’m not clear why BA has trouble putting out a functional app. Other food sites don’t have such difficulty. Ridiculous.

One of my favorite apps but.... I use this app multiple times a week. As a Bon Appetit subscriber, it’s a great way to find and save recipes from the magazine. It’s also a terrific reference and source of inspiration, especially on those ‘what’s for dinner tonight?’ days. The search tools and photography are great and help to sort through a massive database of recipes. I own over 100 cookbooks but use epicurious more than any of them. That said, there is room for improvement. Most notably the app keeps crashing and giving me a blank white screen shortly after the initial content load since the most recent update. Also, I’m surprised that the developers have chosen to only allow reviews to be submitted through the website. I find reviews of recipes to be a very valuable feature since many of the reviewers are knowledgeable cooks, but I rarely contribute to this community because the app doesn’t allow it. Please fix the bugs and enable reviews Condé Nast!

Subscription required?. I’ve been using Epicurious for years and was never asked to subscribe before today. Did something change in their model? It’s a good app and I have a lot of favorite recipes saved in it. I emptied my bookcase of old Bon Appetit magazines when the app came around. It is not a big amount of money, but I’m annoyed. Update: now I’m mad. I went to sign up for the subscription decided for some stupid reason to sign in through Apple, which I usually don’t do I just didn’t feel like making yet another password. I have to go out of the app into the Conde Nast website to set up this account. I put in my email. There are two options on the page, to either hide your email or to show it. Hide is automatically checked so I left it there. The next thing I know I am told that because I’ve hit in the email I can’t sign into Epicurious, which is the whole reason I am making the account. I don’t see anywhere in the process that I can back to having dysfunction the way I want it to. Update 2: Now I’m furious. Went to look for my years of saved recipes. THEY ARE GONE.

What happened?. I don’t know what happened to Epicurious. They used to be great. They have changed their website so now it’s one of the most user unfriendly and frustrating websites I’ve ever known! They took away the search engine within your saved recipes box, making it impossible to find a recipe that you saved in the past. The app just kicks me off every 10 seconds, so again, making it impossible to find a recipes. And now I have to pay $40 a year for this??? It just doesn’t make sense. The only reason I have cancelled my subscription was because of all the recipes that I have saved over the years, but now that they have made it super inconvenient to search for these I may as well cancel. And I have noticed that they are sending me mostly articles on stuff to buy versus recipes. Epicurious has really gone down hill!!!

Yukon gold cinnamon rolls. I am 77 and I have been making cinnamon Rolls for well over 50 years. Most of the time, they were real good. Cinnamon rolls are good. However, I will never make a different recipe than this one. They are THE BEST I have EVER made or eaten. Anyone I have shared them with agree. They are totally addictive. This time I did make a couple adjustments just for the sake of simplicity. Since the extremely soft, moist dough is one of the secrets of the clouds like texture, I would never change the proportions of the ingredients. This time I did put the dough in the refrigerator over night and shaped the rolls in the morning. It was much easier to handle and there were no ill effects whatsoever. I also melted the butter and brushed it on and then sprinkled on the cinnamon mixture. Thank you for the cinnamon roll recipe that I have been looking for for more than 50 years.

Good, but missing one vital feature. The app is thoughtfully laid out and I have yet to experience any bugs or fatal flaws. That said, there’s one feature other cooking apps have that was overlooked - a way to create folders to save recipes in! My work hours prevent me me cooking as many dinners as I’d like to, so I end up squirreling away more entrees and feastable recipes than I could possibly ever make. Meanwhile, I bake something yummy two or three times a week. When I want to pull out all the stops for a party or just because, I won’t want to have to scroll through dozens (and eventually hundreds) of cookies and pastries before I hit the roast that’ll feed 12 or the complicated 4 hour production. I need that time to get cooking! My other subscription cooking apps understand this. C’mon BA, you can do this!

Great app. Wish it. Could be closer to the way it is online. I love this app I used the app a lot and have told many friends about it. It’s a great source for quality relieves that you know are from trusted source and will always come out great. I receive the Bon Appetit magazine regularly and I often save recipes from the magazine on the app to be able to reference at other times. Online I am able to create folder categories, it would be nice to have this fester represented in mobile as well. I also cannot right reviews on the mobile version, which would be nice to able to do since I reference the app a lot. I have checked to see if there have been any updates and as far as I know I have the most update right now.

Was. WAS a 6 out of 5 star app.. I used this app for years. I recommended to anyone, and everyone, and proselytized in the most aggressive manner. I was obnoxious. I loved this app. Which is to say, I am a zealot who has left the cult. The app changed in so many ways since, it became a pay subscription. I immediately subscribed when the pay model changed and was happy to help fund what was a very useful app. But, the app is broken in nearly every imaginable way since the change. Just, a hot mess. The recipe box has lost all utility. The search features have lost utility as well. And the app crashes in use… a lot! Which is to say, it runs poorly when it runs at all. Was a genius application. Now? Well, I’ve seen better heads on boils. What was once a a six star app in a five star universe has collapsed in on itself to become a black hole. Don’t pay. Don’t trial. Wave and walk away.

Subscription now required - no notice. As a long-time user of the app (first when it was free, and then when a one-time fee was required), it would have been nice to receive some notice that the app was switching to a monthly fee. With the latest update, I can no longer access my Recipe Box. There was no notice about the switch or the inaccessibility and while there are some recipes I would return to, I don’t see a need to subscribe. Between the fairly recent decision to omit beef recipes (likely due to a meat substitute promotion) and now this. There are so many other resources and this seems to be an omen of things to come (in-app purchases, promoted content, ads, ….?) While I understand the need to monetize, I have been using other apps (including ones I pay for) more than Epicurious so this is one I will be passing on. It just would have been nice to receive some notice.

It could be perfect but.... I have been using this app off and on for about 5 years. I have seen the addition of new features like the Shopping List which I totally love. However, this app is filled with bugs, and glitches no matter how many updates are made. There’s always a new issue with this app and therefore becomes an inconsistent resource which completely defeats the purpose of being a recipe/cooking resource. As of right now, when you open the app, after the loading page the screen turns completely white, you can not see any of the content, you can not select anything, it’s just a white screen. This inconvenience is similar to what happens about 6 - 8 months ago when the app would just close if you tried to sign in to view your saved recipes. Before that, the app would just close right after the loading page and you couldn’t access anything. There are no apps with similar content/quality recipes which is even more frustrating because there’s an obvious mismatch between the quality in content and the quality of app developers that manage this app. I am hoping for a day soon where either another, well coded app, is made with quality content or Epicurious gets it together. However I am not to confident in the latter.

I deconstructed it. I had chard in the garden and found this recipe because I did a search for Swiss chard. I am a minimalist so this is what I did: chopped the chard and stems, sautéed them after the onions with the zest and garlic added at the same time. After a couple minutes I added 1/3 cup of white wine (because I had no broth), after a minute I added the fish and topped it with olive tapenade I purchased pre-made from our local gourmet market, squeezed over the juice of one lemon and covered the pan. Cooked for about 15 minutes added the tomatoes and cooked an additional minutes. SOOO easy, quick and good this way. Flavors were perfect together. And one pan making clean-up easy.

Saved Recipes?. Tried the app for about a day and the recipes were great and they organized the different categories really well. My only and biggest problem is that the app decides what it’s going to save on my ‘save recipes’ file. I spent almost an hour finding all these great recipes and scrolling and scrolling. A couple hours later when I tried to make one of my saved recipes, I checked my saved recipe file and it was completely empty! I had a least 30 recipes saved that I spent an hour trying to find! Then I found one that I liked again and added it and immediately checked the saved recipe file and still nothing. So I’m not sure what’s going on but that again turned me COMPLETELY off. There’s to many recipes on this app for the saved recipes category to not be working/glitching.

So handy, so good, what else do you need?. Love this app. Been an Epicurious fan for many years, long before the app came out. I love the ability to save recipes, make shopping lists, read reviews, and the ingredients/instructions flip back and forth is so easy — you’re not constantly scrolling to look at steps then amounts then steps, etc. I use this app every time I cook. I have so many favorite recipes saved in the app. Also, the videos are great and I like the meal planning ideas. I wish the app allowed me to search multi course meals or sides — sometime you get the side pairing in the recipe but often not. Other times, I’m making a 6 course meal for ten with a theme and I just wish I could search “French feast with fish” or something like that, the way you can online. Only three main challenges: 1) sometimes search queries aren’t accurate unless the search lingo is phrased just right; 2)the recipes haven’t always kept up with modern techniques, like sous vide — I use sous vide all the time, and have to go elsewhere for recipes; 3) you can’t post recipe reviews via mobile app — you have to go online desktop and login...if this could be fixed there’d by 10x reviews.

Not bad but could be better. Coming back after a long while not using the app — loved the iPad version to pieces 5-6 years ago! But now that some time has passed and I’ve gained friends with several severe allergies to dairy, seafood, and garlic (yes that is a thing), it’s quite frustrating the lack of granularity in being able to filter out certain ingredients based on certain allergies or dietary preferences. Also the search function appears to be a bit broken — I was looking up cinnamon rolls because a featured recipe caught my eye but I wanted to see what other recipes were available, and it said there were no recipes AT ALL, including said featured recipe. A bit confusing, that. I would love to see some more improvements in these regards!

EpiRecipes vs EpiApp. I have been an Epi App aficionado for years and years. I have and will always LOVE the recipes. In fact I’m almost exclusive to the app for recipes. That said, I am so disappointed with the quality of the new app. It is extremely slow/sluggish to respond to the point that I dread having to use it. I also don’t like that I can only see my most recent Saved Recipes because I have so so many recipes and some old ones I use to use regularly and other old ones I want to revisit. Also, sometimes I see a new recipe on the email I get but if I don’t remember the name specifically I don’t get it. And…in my saved recipes I have the same problem. Something I would like to suggest, too, is that sometimes I don’t remember the recipe or I have an ingredient or two but I can’t get the recipe I need from my saved recipes. That’s a little frustrating but probably a hard algorithm to put into the app. If I didn’t love the recipes and the reviews I would just use another app. Oh, I wish I could use a different app.

Review from a 20+ year member. I’ve been an Epicurious member since the 1990’s and, until it was disbanded, an active voice in the Epicurious Forum. When the Epicurious Cookbook was in the works I was contacted to contribute one of my recipes which I’m happy to say appeared in the book (Sesame Noodles). Back then Epi was my primary source for new recipe inspirations and I loaded my personal recipe box with them. I still refer back to those on occasion but no longer visit the site as my primary source - it has been preempted by the NYT Cooking Site where I find the recipes more infesting and the comments more lively. It used to be much easier to upload a personal recipe to this site but it’s now too cumbersome to do so or to even go back and revise a previous one. I’m happy that those of us who met in cyberspace via the erstwhile Forum have been thriving in our private group on FB.

Will not work. I loved Epicurious and I truly don’t mind paying for access - $40 seems a fair price. But since subscribing I have had nothing but trouble. I can log into my account and see subscription is active. Some (but not all) of my previously saved are visible, but recipes do not load when selected. In fact, no recipes load, even those not in saved recipes. I have called the help desk 3 times and they seem to be able to fix the issue temporarily, but soon things go back to not working. I attempted to cancel my 1 year subscription but I can’t cancel until the year is up. I never had these types of issues before with this website. In addition, you would think a subscription would be free of pop up ads but this is not the case. So I paid for a useless subscription, but at least the unrelated pop ups come in loud and clear.

Been on epi for so many years! life is so different now. I went on epi when I first heard about it, at least 18 years ago...maybe more. It was the total package....new and amazing! Now, I’m getting a bit disappointed and yet I always come back. Some of my favorite recipes have disappeared from the site and I’ll never retrieve and some of the new is just not good. Sometimes way too trendy and I’m not sure if the staff reads or tries these recipes as written? Like I said, I’ll keep coming back, but I’d like to see more of the basics and not 15 of the same thing with only a slight variance Update: liking some of the reviews of product both food and tools. Would also like to see more standardized recipes for holidays...like basic pumpkin, apple, or cherry pies....most are out there and sometimes you want the food to be exotic and sometimes just “good American food” Also, I use epi on my iPhone/iPad and cannot figure out how to review recipes on there....send me info on that, please So, i guess y’all do not care about these reviews…so, why do you ask?? I sent the above, at least 2 years ago. I have yet to hear from anyone from the company

Great resource. I really enjoy this app! I always get inspiration from the plethora of recipes and especially like that I can search by ingredient when I’m on the fence about how to use up what I have on hand. I chuckle during nearly every video and am selfishly pleased when I find out I’m not the only person who does not know how to cut an artichoke. The weekly meal ideas are awesome and the reviews on products are almost always informative. My feedback to improve would be: let me comment on the recipes after I’ve made them - sometimes they turn out less than great and I’d like epicurious and their readers to know and/or advise what went wrong. Generally I’ve been happy with this app and look forward to what’s for dinner tonight!!

Minor changes could make it perfect. The app is easy to navigate and I appreciate the ability to filter to Bon Appetite etc. It defaults to collapsing the wordy existential recipe descriptions for those of us that just want to cook dinner which is phenomenal. No ads smashed in your face, just a recipe book on your phone. I have one criticism that unfortunately sours the experience for me, and that is that if you migrate away from the app or switch to another app is has a tendency of completely restarting every time, losing your recipe and place along the way. When cooking complicated things where I want to weigh flour, convert to grams, text my wife to get milk, or multitask in general, it seems to constantly lose its place, making it very difficult to use, adding time to the process to get back to where I was. A digital recipe book should be exactly that; and stay open on your countertop while you tend to everything else!

I really love the recipes, but the app doesn’t function well.. The recipes are great, and I’ve really enjoyed making them, but the app itself isn’t great. The back button doesn’t work well, it has a really tiny hit box so sometimes it takes me longer to hit the back button than it does to read the recipe. I’ve never had this issue with any other app. Also, the timers don’t notify you when they’re finished… they count down, but there’s no sound or notification when they’re finished, so you’re better off just using an egg timer or your oven clock or even the timer on your phone. Thanks to the timers not working, I over cooked a whole dozen eggs. Bummer. Also, for whatever reason, you can’t review a recipe from inside the app. So while you can use this app to view recipes, you can’t participate in reviews and such, which makes me question how accurate the reviews are. Plus, it just takes away the sense of community and participation. Why even include reviews if you’re not going to let people do their own? On the upside, you can save recipes to come back to, but you can’t sort them so it’s sort of chaos, but still, it’s nice to have them in a list instead of a million browser tabs. So, all in all, I kind of hate the app, but I love Epicurious recipes so it gets 3 stars, even though the app is a hard 2.

App is Nonfunctional. I have tried for weeks to get this app to work after it booted me off one day and cleared my updates to my recipe box. I can use the website just fine in my browser, so I know it’s not my password, but the app never lets me log in. I tried to submit a error report through the app via the posted link and surprise surprise it told me the server was down and they were unable to communicate. Tried deleting the app over and over again, and it never seems to work. I have tried to change my password just to make sure that’s not the problem, and the link to change the password always sends me straight to the home page of the website, from which point I have to find a different change password link on the website. Having no way to submit an email to support from the app and being unable to use the app in general makes it pretty useless to me at this point.

No longer stays open and avoids Lock Screen on iPhones. I am a die-hard Bob Appetit / Gourmet fan and have been a subscriber off and on for 20+ years. One of my favorite features of the Epicurious app was that it would remain open on iPhones, thwarting the time-settings of your Lock Screen, and allowing the recipe to stay open. This means you don’t have to touch your phone with your dirty hands over and over again while you cook. Well, with last week’s update, that’s no more! It was a main reason I kept using this app vs seeking recipes in the wild on the Internet, and now I’ve paid an in-app subscription fee, and now that feature is gone. I’m so disappointed—I should just cancel the subscription if it’s going to behave like every other online recipe service.

Entire recipe file vanished. First you go to a paywall model, then AFTER I pay, all my 400+ bookmarked recipes disappear, even though I can literally see the bookmarks on the recipes themselves? And unfortunately this is NOT the first time I’ve negatively reviewed so-called updates to this app. What’s up, Condé Nast? Even though I’ve paid, I see more ads than ever before, and you either can’t use a developer with enough experience to test a new release, or afford to pay an employee to take a test drive BEFORE releasing an app that will require multiple updates just to get users back to where they were BEFORE the update? I won’t be using the app, or giving your advertisers my eyeballs on their ads until I see from these reviews that these issues have been resolved. Also, aren’t you LEGALLY REQUIRED to let me opt out of cookies, which is now apparently not an option on this ‘new’ release?

Kicks you out of recipe when you leave app for any reason. This app had been working just fine, but the latest version is buggy disaster. The worst problem is that if you are viewing a recipe and leave the app for any reason — like to use a different app, respond to a text, etc. — you get booted out of the recipe you were viewing and are forced to go in and find it again. This is especially a problem when using iPad OS multitasking features, like side-by-side or slide over, which I ALWAYS do when making a shopping list, with Epicurious open in split screen mode and sharing the screen with my shopping list app. When I go to enter an ingredient in the shopping list, I can literally watch as the Epicurious app backs right out of the recipe I was reading from to make the list. And it’s not even showing up in “recently viewed”. Please fix this mess!

Need ability to search my recipe box. Cons (most egregious first) - The app and website are missing full text search for my recipe box vs just recipe name. I am swimming in fresh mint but have to go recipe by recipe to find the ones with mint. - a while ago I lost my personal notes that I added to recipes. When it happened I was super annoyed, time has tempered this to quite annoyed. - the app doesn’t allow creating recipe reviews. The website does but This is annoying. Pros + good recipes and helped by ratings and cooks notes (though only cooks using the app) + matches the Bon Appetit print magazine which I appreciate for going to the store but bot having my magazine.

Login Doesn't Work on iPad. For some reason the login function doesn't work on my iPad. I've tried several times and the app just closes the page as though I never entered my login details. It's very frustrating. Other than that, the app is good. It has a recipe box section and a shopping list section from which you can choose items from your recipe box in order to help you prepare your meals. Please fix this login issue. Other than that, good work. UPDATE: I bought a new iPad a few weeks ago and updated all of my apps, yet this app STILL refuses to let me login. It’s not like it’s telling me that my password is wrong and that I need to guess again or reset it. No, instead it just acts like I’ve never entered my information once I press Sign In. Soooo frustrating!!! How am I supposed to access my Recipe Box or my Shopping List. It’s really inconvenient having to access this website from my laptop when I’m cooking in the kitchen or planning meals on the road. PLEASE FIX THIS Epicurious!!!

App is now terrible and worthless. I had been using this app for over ten years, compiling hundreds or recipes and ADDING my OWN recipes. The app was useful at that time because of user edits and comments and ability to place recipes in one place. However, Without any notice to users, Condé Nast decided to “update” its app and eliminate access to the users recipe box in favor of a subscription service. I now no longer have access to my OWN recipes without paying for the content that I authored and created. What a joke. (also I note, even before the update, the app was low functioning to begin with and the customer service was non responsive). It’s one thing to move to a subscription model (though it’s smarter to rely on ads like most other apps). It’s a whole other thing to do so without notice and after taking all of the users content, data, and original works. (Imagine if Facebook just decided to prevent you from accessing your pictures). Whoever made this decision is both shortsighted and obviously has no idea about his target audience. Good luck with this hot mess, Condé Nast. There are so many other recipe sources out there.

One of the worst apps for a great website. Dear Epicurious, I strongly suggest that you eliminate your app altogether, particularly if you cannot keep it functional. That, or fire whoever is maintaining it for you and replace them with a qualified company. Adding all of your advertising to the app was bad enough, but now your app fails nearly every time I try to use it, booting me out before I can even finish typing in the search bar. Seems to me that if you are trying to attract people to your site, you would want to have this app fixed. In this day and age, any company that relies so heavily on consumers (pun intended) would insist that the app be top notch -- millennials rely on apps and you are carving yourself (ha ha) out of a huge potential future market. Zero rating--don't waste your time with this app, use the website instead.

This app is a cooks absolute MUST HAVE!. I am a serious cook with very discerning taste, so any old recipe just won’t cut it. Epicurious is my go-to place for all things yummy. If I eat something delicious at a restaurant I can usually find the recipe for the dish I liked on Epicurious. If I’m stumped for what to make for dinner on the weeknights I can find inspiration on Epicurious. If I’m looking for a show-stopper dish for literally any occasion I can find it on Epicurious! My one piece of advice is for new cooks to be aware that most of the recipes on this app are spot on, but I would definitely recommend reading through the entire recipe you’re considering making to make sure that it seems doable and that there aren’t odd curveballs to what you might be expecting (sometimes there are several variations of a recipe).

Once a great app. Conde Nasty has succumbed to greed. This once great app has been trashed by their greed. There are many other fine apps that don’t want to charge you $40 a year (that’s the discount price) for recipes freely searchable on the internet. I once loved this app, it was my go-to choice when I wanted inspiration or guidance. What do I have in my fridge? What delicious dinner can I make from what I have? But no more. Condé reworked the app so it eliminated the hundreds of recipes that appealed or were tried from my saved recipes. They reworked it so I couldn’t search for “chicken” and then filter by adding the arugula I had as an ingredient in a recipe. It’s really a disappointment now. Don’t subscribe and encourage their greed. Use a web search for more and more interesting recipes that won’t cost you $40 a year. They responded to this review saying “[P]lease know that our team has worked to deliver a new and improved experience for our subscribers.” But that’s the problem: it’s not an improved experience. Maybe it’s improved for an app developer, but not for a cook. Take a look at Paprika here in the App Store. It doesn’t cost $40+ a year and you can save all the great recipes you find on the internet.

Desperately need to fix favorites. The favorites area is extremely buggy. Especially if you had a previous version of the app before they added the paywall. None of my previous favorites appear and “support” is non existent as I’ve emailed them several times with no response. I can see that items are favorited if I find them through search (which is expected but not helpful since the bookmark area is empty). My favorites also appear on the web but that interface is also a joke as it has no way to search your favorites and shows 10 or so at a time with a load more button. I have 100s of bookmarks so that UI Is useless. I’ve tried un-favoriting then re-favoriting, logging out, reinstalling the app. Nothing works. The primary reason to pay for this subscription is to have the list of saved recipes…since those don’t work for pre existing users they are essentially taking your money and not providing the service. If I could give less than one star I would.

Needs to work if you charge subscription!. I made a “one time payment” to get this app about eight years ago. I have loved it. It’s been a great resource for recipes and techniques on cooking. That being said, it’s very frustrating that a company can start charging a subscription for an app that was sold as a one time payment. Also after all the complaints I’ve read about “upgrades” to the app that have failed, made navigation harder and makes it impossible to retrieve saved recipes. If I did decide to pay a monthly fee, I will think twice before signing up for the new Epicurious app. There are others out there that I’ll look into. At this point not much is working for me and it keeps crashing. I would love to keep using it. I hope you make it worth my while.

Love the app, except for the login issues. I use this app all the time. Great recipes presented in a clear, easy-to-read format. The user comments offer helpful suggestions for tweaking the recipes and avoiding pitfalls. It’s very handy to be able to save favorites to my recipe box—however... I can’t log in to the app on my iPad (though I can on my iPhone). That means I can’t access the recipe box, which is inconvenient and really annoying. I’m running the latest version of the app, which was supposed to have fixed these login problems. Neither changing my password nor reinstalling the app fixed the problem. I tried emailing Epicurious app support, but the email address they provided appears to no longer valid.

If Only They Could Go Back *Several* Releases. The Epicurious App has not been stable or worked for me in probably a few years. Every so many months I check to see if there’s a new release, download it, get my hopes up, launch... and crash. I don’t think I’ve kept the app on my phone longer than 20 mins in the past few years. No idea what all the enhancement releases are for if the underlying stability is bogus. Definitely not the only reviewer with these issues. Just wish they’d either go back MANY releases or start from the ground up and rewrite the whole thing. I really really really miss this app. And the website has become such garbage with all the ads I find I need an adblocker to keep my sanity. Such a bummer. I’ll keep checking and i’ll keep strong disappointed. But maybe ONE day I can use this again. Updated a very long time later. Just updated to a new iphone 12 and was so excited to try the epicurious app again and see if it would work finally. NOPE. Serious garbage. Crash crash crash crash crash.

Massive, Flexible Recipe Source and Culinary Teaser. Seemingly endless recipes in a flexible yet thorough and efficient database. Photo quality is excellent which adds to the tendency for me to search a certain recipe, and subsequently get lost on a culinary journey. I can honestly say that while I might not get exactly what I’m looking for every time (a ridiculous expectation), the myriad choices always give me food for thought. It sometimes ends up like going to the grocery store for a quart of milk. After wandering the store and picking out a dozen items, I check out, walk out towards my car pondering all the delicious things I will make only to realize as I turn the key in the ignition that I forgot the milk.

Very Disappointing. Like so many others I am very disappointed with the new subscription requirements with the same app we’ve all been using for years. Without notice we now have to pay a $40 subscription fee. I have so many saved recipes that I can now no longer access. I subscribe to Bon Appetit but that is not enough. Why does the cost have to be so high? Why can’t we opt for an ad-based account? Previously, the app barely functioned at times. It would just shut down, refuse to search and other problems. I don’t have any confidence that that would be improved with a hefty payment. Also, customer service is lacking. I sent a support request email 2 weeks ago and got the automated response that I would hear back in 24 hours. I replied 3 days later asking if I would get a response. Still waiting. I will look elsewhere for a recipe app.

Recipes are great; App is terrible. Since Epicurious was purchased by Conde Nast, things have gone downhill. Besides moving from a free website to a subscription based platform, the app itself has stopped working well. The majority of times when I try to open the Epicurious App, it grinds and grinds, the little white dot over the “i” bouncing up and down, up and down, up and down, on and on…until I finally give up, and just google whatever recipe I was searching for. I have mentioned this in a survey but never got any response nor saw any improvement in performance. It’s so frustrating to pay for a defective product. Epicurious was a fantastic experiment that, once it took off and was sold, has lost its shine. (Yes, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app—didn’t help, and I tried going to the website in a browser, but that redirects me to the app…a vicious circle!) So disappointing.

Used to Love....Disappointed. I have subscribed before and been a lover of Bob Appetit and Epicurious for many many years! I love the magazines, articles, menus, recipes and was thrilled when there was an app made available. Yes, there have been glitches along the way but nothing that drove me nuts until now. I use the app some what frequently but honestly would rather flip though my old magazines for inspiration unless I’m thinking something specific and want to search for that type item. Like today...thinking I’d love a dessert with pears as the star. So I search...pears...I find over 200 options. I’m so excited!! Until in disgust I give up after about 25 because out of those, other than a lovely table setting the only number that had an actual image of the recipe indicated that I was lookin for was maybe 2 or 3😳 What?!?! Isn’t that the whole point!! Don’t we eat with our eyes first!!!! I want to see what the recipe is talking about...what is it depicting? Is this something I want to make and serve? Come on Epicurious!!! You can do better than this..

Great app, but.... So, I truly do love this app, but what’s up with it no longer allowing me to play the videos? I loved the videos, I thrived off of the videos, the videos made life just that much better. This problem started about a month ago and I hesitated to say anything thinking it was just a glitch or something but the problem persists... Please, Please, PLEASE fix it, I need you back in my life. And this is totally me just being extra but can you, one, please add more BA content and two, give us a way to search and possibly save videos. No biggie though. P.S. I still love you guys though so even if the problem doesn’t get fixed and what not, you have my loyalty and I am not going anywhere.

Hello, 911? I’d like to report a paywall. I’ve used this app for the past 10 years. One day in early 2023 I login to find they’re now charging me ACTUAL MONEY in this trifling economy to access my babies! I’ve accessed these recipes for the past 10 years- commented on them, shared them, loved them, grew with them. They mark the areas of my life satan run insurance companies care most about. How could Epicurious just snatch them away? And without telling me? I will never recover. I hope your ovens break. I hope you forget to close your freezers on vacation. I hope you don’t have an important ingredient for a main, and when you find out, you’re already running very late and have no substitutes available. I hope your favorite pots and pans break or warp. I hope you FOREVER LOSE THE ABILITY TO TASTE ANYTHING FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES. I wish these things for every single person who contributed to the decision to paywall these recipes. You had no right! In Jesus name we pray, Amen..

Good but needs improvement. This app is mostly awesome. You can browse cooking videos, look at recipes and save the ingredients to a grocery list that you can check off while you shop. It also has timers for basic foods like chicken as well as their cuts, eggs and the different times for different ways, etc., however I dislike that the only timers for most of the ingredients is for roasting in the oven. There isn’t a timer for steaming specific veggies or grill times, slow cooker times etc. it would be nice to add those details in to enjoy the apps convenience a little better. Also, there’s no way to save any of the videos for later. You have to scroll and look for them, you can’t search them in the search box either. And the search lists are very short and sometimes nonexistent. If you type in vegetarian, only one recipe comes up! There needs to be a more broad and lengthy list of recipes in general. I also wish that you could name the shopping list but that’s not a big deal. However, this app does need some major improvements for it to be amazing.

Still terrible. First of all, it’s fascinating that this app still has a high rating when there are so many bad reviews. They all seemed to be pushed down to the bottom and only the positive reviews from 3+ years ago show up at the top when you search for this app in the App Store. Secondly, there have been no improvements since I last posted, several months ago. The search function still doesn’t work (I looked in the “Turkey” section for Thanksgiving options today, and one of the recipes that came up is a TURKISH recipe that contains no turkey. Might be ok in a regular search but if you go so far as to make a category for ease of use during a holiday, you should probably check to see if the recipes fit the category.) Thirdly, if I leave the app for a minute to use another app while cooking, the whole app closes and I have to then reopen it and search for my recipe all over again which wastes time and is incredibly inconvenient while cooking. Fourthly, it shuts down and quits randomly and sporadically. Again, if this app was free I wouldn’t be so irate. But this is THE MOST EXPENSIVE APP I HAVE EVER BOUGHT and it DOES NOT WORK AND HAS NOT WORKED SINCE THEY STARTED CHARGING FOR IT. Super unacceptable. Super infuriating.

Poor search function. The Epicurious app has a very poor search function. Even if you know the exact name of the recipe, it may or may not work For example, the small video that plays on an unrelated recipe page featured “Chocolate Dipped Pistachio Shortbread.” When I entered that exact title into the Search function looking for the recipe, it was not found. Makes no sense If you know only a partial name of a recipe, the search won’t find it. And the search brings up all tyoes of extraneous articles that have no relevance. The search by word or partial name needs a major rework. It’s very frustrating and makes me not want to use it. The NYT cooking app is much better. There must be hundreds of thousands of recipes in the database, yet the app finds only a related few if you enter a major ingredient. I’ve subscribed to Bon Appétit since the 1970s and am disappointed by the lackluster search performance of this app. It needs much refinement and attention to these issues.

Update on review Love it but would like an added feature. My original review is below and dates some years back. Epicurious was my go to for lots of great recipes. Well, I guess they got tired of making it all available for free. Now with the latest OS update they are suddenly wanting you to subscribe to access anything. I can’t even access my formerly saved recipes without paying for a subscription! It was good, but no, I’m not going to pay a monthly subscription with this rude awakening of an update. There’s plenty of online sites that also provide great recipes. Old review: Love Epicurious and it is the first place to check for recipes. One feature I wish they had was a place for making my own notes on any changes I made to the recipe when I make it. Sometimes I’ll substitute ingredients or combine suggestions from the review of the recipe and would like to keep a note on that for future reference. That would make Epicurious a 5 star.

Used to be better!. I have had an epi account and used the app for years. The recipes are good but the app has changed and is now very difficult to navigate. (And this happened after they started to charge for it!) When looking at my saved recipes, if I open one to read it and then try to go back to where I was, it takes me back to the first saved recipe again and I have to find my way back to where I was…each and every time. It makes me hesitant to even open any of the recipes as it’s such a pain! I used to have folders with apps, fish, chicken, pasta, etc…and spent a lot of time organizing, they seem to be gone now and I don’t see any way to organize them anymore. I don’t think I will be paying for this for another year😢

What happened with recipe bookmarks..OhOh, where is support?, and now can’t rate!. Saving a recipe from an email to the app was always a bit clumsy and web/app sync never seemed to work. The frustrating workaround for me was to only save to the app after needing to launch it. Now it seems an email link won’t save to the app at all. Sync is fundamental...fix it up please. Update: Continuing to pursue this issue further at the directed email resulted in an invalid address response. So solid for long, nothing has changed on my end. My support request email seemingly not received: My web site has started to have many more recipes than my iOS app. I never paid much attention to the website count, but something now seems up with saving a recipe to the app from the subscription emails so the syncing became noticed. Yes, I use the same email login and have logged out/in of both several times. Most frustrating!! Next update: Further exploring how to get my “favorite after work app to enjoy”, actually sync so it’s useful, it now seems that the 'Rate in the App Store' selection is now unavailable. Great app, bad something!!

A worthless app. I’ve lost count of how many years I’ve been using Epicurious. I have loved it. I have referred friends and family to it. I have collected and curated a file of hundreds of recipes that my family loves. NO MORE. With the upgrade to the app EVERYTHING is gone. More than a decade of favorite recipes I had curated - all gone overnight. I added new recipes to my file last week - all gone today. My efforts to get help from Epicurious have been equally worthless. Each response is from a different customer service agent. None have an explanation or convey that the developers and CondéNast are at all concerned or making any effort to fix this problem. Worst of all, they charged me $40 for a year of access after years of the free service, and only then did my recipes disappear. Apparently as a long-time and now paying customer my experience is unimportant to them. Don’t waste your time or money on this app. You’ll only be disappointed.

I hate ads, content is not free. I wrote another review complaining about the fact that you can't print the recipes but after poking around more, I am giving it 5 stars. They wrote back saying they were working on printing, hopefully that is true. I also noticed some clunky, and in my opinion, poorly designed functionality of the app. Like 'side dish' should be a pre-selected searchable category. And they should allow you to organize your saved recipes. And let you print them. But overall epicurious is a great recipe website. The recipes are just better, written by professionals whose job it is to write recipes. I love to cook, content is not free & it seems worth it to me. Also, I hate ads and it is great to see the content without it being covered up by ads. And the app & website, despite it's flaws seems pretty solid.

Very helpful app. I really want to give this app 5 stars but just can't. It delivers so much - great variety and numbers of recipes, terrific ways of searching recipes, reviews from users that help improve the dish but having to exit the app to convert to metric in another app is really inconvenient in the middle of cooking and having had the app crash several times limits this to 4 stars for me. Having said that, Epicurious is a wonderful companion in the kitchen.

My go to recipe app. This app is easy to use & has tons of delicious recipes with lots of reviews so you know if it's good or not. Also love the categories so can easily pick a quick & easy weeknight dinner recipe.

Love this app. Love this app but with the new update tho e app keeps crashing

Junk. Timers feature was one of the best features and now it’s gone and you want us to pay. Bye

Paywall?. Paywall. Delete!

Needs fix. I love this app so much but since downloading it on my iPhone 8 I have has issues with the app. It will not let me log in with my account and i created a new one and it will delete all my saved recipes every time I click out of the app!!!! Please fix I love this app and use it all the time.

Needs refinement for overseas markets. Found the app to be very simple and great to find ideas and recipes for the family, but with measurements in Imperial it makes it a bit difficult to make a quick decision if extra ingredients are needed. Would be great if there was a choice to choose metric measurements for the countries that don't use Imperial.

Good recipes but no metric measures. The lack of metric makes this pretty useless in much of the world.

Excellent cooking app. This is a lovely little application - with web-site support and back-up. I have to laugh at the complaints about advertising that are made by some. The adds are in a quite acceptable format and fair enough for a comprehensive free application such as this one. Well done to CondeNet for bringing this to the iPhone public - it's a treat to use the shopping list on the way home from work and come home with all of the needs for a great dinner/lunch/breakfast.

Potentially a great app but.. The app has no sous vide recipes, it does not cater for the dietary needs of keto or LCHF, nor does it allow for the choice of metric temperature and weight in the settings. Potentially great but in reality not good enough.

Metric please. Great for finding recipes eg what do I do when I have extra bunches of celery? - about to make soup! However, please can we have a version with metric measurements? Australia has been metric for so long, most of us have forgotten pounds & ounces!

Great reference and tool. Excellent app. Non-obtrusive advertising. A must for anyone epicurious (you know, those folk who enjoy and are interested in food and cooking, and for whom having to perform very simple conversions from imperial into metric *isn't* cause to raise an alert with the United Nations)

The measurements are driving me mad!. Recently downloaded this app on my iPad and it's a wonderful tool in the kitchen. Love the recipes, and the pix , altho I need to translate for local products and terminology (Australia) which I mutter about but can cope with. BUT!! Why oh why do we not have the measurements AND the oven temperatures in metric! Even a conversion table added to the app would help. Come on guys, we know this is an American app, but surely you realise by now that America is NOT the centre of the universe! I would give 5 stars if this was fixed.

Metrics please. Nice idea, good selection but desperately needs metric conversion NOT as a separate calculator. It would be nice if we could also record adjustments and substitutions for each recipe both privately and to share with the community. Social cooking could be a real hit! Especially with people on modified diets (diabetic, sodium, kosher/halal). Maybe a TAGging feature.

Love it. Unlike a lot of recipe apps this one has recipes that you actually want to try. Reviews are a great feature, often with good suggestions for slight changes that suit individual preferences. The addition of a notes feature to favourites tab would be great, to keep track of any changes you make/might make next time would be good. More inclusions in the 'cuisines' search would be good, to cover a broader range of cultural festivities, the Ramadan selection is pretty light on and there's nothing for Asian or Indian festivities. The conversion issue is easily solved by printing a conversion chart and keeping it in the kitchen.

Delightful. Epicurious is a feast for the eye and the imagination. It’s sensual! Even the fonts are creamy! I always learn something new, and it is #1 for usability.

5 stars from Australia. O yum I love all these spices in the recipe, first timer at gingerbread and smack - full of flavour. Just what I needed in this worldwide coronavirus19 lockdown 🥳

Epicurious. It was one of my favorite apps. No longer as it crashes every time you open it.

My Fav Website Since It Was Invented!!. Seriously, I reckon I’ve been using this website for almost 20 years. The key is to sort by “Most Reviews”, to get the best recipes, in my humble opinion. Thank you Epicurious for all of your wonderful work!

Good recipes, but..... the browsing could be a little more categorized. Also, the e-mail function doesn't work. Positives - the recipes sound great, the shopping list is a great touch, the favourites makes it easy to find your selected recipes, and the kitchen (landscape) mode makes the recipes easy to read when cooking.

Amazing recipes. Always perfect! Love the rating system

Epi app having issues. I love this app and have had it for years only recently paying for a subscription. It has become very glitchy since then, doesn’t recognise me even after signing in multiple times. It also randomly closes suddenly Please fix so I can keep cooking all my fave recipes.

Horrible app. Ever since paying for this app, it has not worked. Often it won’t even load and frequently my recipes cannot be found. Not worth the money.

How to destroy an app. A few years ago this was the best cooking app of all time - it is now but a sad shadow of its former self. There are few recipes, the search/filter function which used to be outstanding mostly retrieves no results or retrieves nonsensical results. Wish I could find out why exactly this has been ruined - was this some sort of marketing tactic? I really don't get it.

Saves favourites but.... Great app in that it saves favourites. I really wish it wouldn't crash and even if that crash is as a result of my own Internet connection I wish this app wouldn't make it so I have to go back to the beginning of the category and move through the entire category one recipe at a time especially as I have done so through 300 of the 900 in a certain category and don't get to see the other 600 because I don't want to scroll through the 300 recipes I've already viewed.

Rubbish. This app does everything except actually provide recipes. I have contacted them and done everything suggested but still doesn’t work. A waste of time. I’ll stick with the BA website…at least it works!

Briliant app, shame it's not metric. The content of those app is great. Lots of wonderful ideas, all with easy instructions and lots of pictures. Being a computer how hard would it be to have this app auto convert units to metric? The lack of metric is the only downside, having to change out of the app to convert units is a real pain.

Keeps crashing. Love the recipes, but my app keeps crashing lately which is very annoying. Would get 5 stars if that wasn’t happening.

Crying Shame. This is the best recipe/cooking app and I have been using it for so many years I can’t remember…. Right up until the app made me randomly login this morning and was hit with a pay wall. So long, goodbye. $8 a month is not fair value. What was that other cooking app that was free? Oh yeah, any search engine on the internet.

Makes you look like a chef. Love this app. Small suggestion: would be good to have a notes function in saved recipes to add alterations. Otherwise, this app is close to perfection!

I can’t sign in. I can’t sign in. I sent an email to Support a week ago and have heard nothing back.

Great but could improve. For the price this should be one of the apps that everybody has. The only thing I would add is a timer feature to help with multiple things on the go in the kitchen. This would make it a go to app whenever a meal is being considered.

Dont upgrade to v2.2 - ads are annoying and buggy. Prior to version 2.2 this was a fanstastic app, I would have rated 5* (maybe 1 star off for no metric), easy to use, excellent search criteria and lots of content. It had some advertising, as you'd expect in a free app, but it wasn't too intrusive. Updating to v2.2 hasn't gained any more features, but has introduced an extra level of advertising that is not only annoying but faulty and makes the app very difficult to use. Two things specifically. Firstly, it nags me to death about buying some add-on called 'sync my recipe box' - need to endlessly press the skip button. I couldn't care less about syncing my recipe box, but it would have been worth spending $2.50 just to shut the thing up! However the second, and most annoying, ad is where it continually flashes up a screen directing me to an app called "Gourmet Live". It won't take No for an answer either, because when I press the X to close the ad screen it instead takes me to the App store, where (fortunately) I get a message saying I can't buy the app as it's only for iPad, not iPhone. I then have to close app store, re-open epicurious, where I get the same screen a second time, then have to repeat the process once more before it finally lets me in. Extremely frustrating! This goes beyond software advertising and is a a major bug as it's trying to sell me an iPad app for my iPhone, and is very insistent about it. Still a good app but please fix this!

Unusable due to crashing. I used to love this app. This version is extraordinarily buggy - constantly crashing, freezing. Sadly no longer recommended!

Quite American but lots of great features. Would be good to have metric as well, but there's a great range of search options and recipes to choose from. I like the shopping list creator too. I hope you keep expanding the amount of recipes but I've really enjoyed what I have cooked from here so far. Nice to have reviews/ratings built in to the recipes. Maybe more pics of foods would be nice too.

Love it. All the recipes I’ve tried from here have been wonderful. Only criticism is I constantly have to convert measurements. :)

!!!!. Great app but I unfortunately have to rare it low due to the lack of metric measurements even after many many requests before previous updates. This app will be rated 5 stars by 99% of the users if a conversion feature was added! Also a feature to adjust the serving sizes. (I.e. If something serves 4 and it needs 4 tomatoes, then make us able to chnage it to one serving which will change it to 1 tomato)

Wonderful app - possible to include metric measurements?. I’m a big fan of Epicurious, but as an Australian also a big fan of metric measurements. Is there a way to include an option for metric measurements in the app settings? It’s a pain to convert for every recipe!

Food. Great recipes and easy to use

Love this app but NO METRIC UNITS. Awesome app, lots of recipes, reviews, some have photos, if you tilt ur phone to landscape the screen stays on (so great for using while cooking) and to top it off the shopping list feature is GREAT - only problem is no auto conversion for metric system

Cooking not politics. Epicurious is not going to have beef recipes because of farting cows and the environment?!! Cows have been around since the dawn of time AND if we had left them to their own devises like India how many cows would there be in the world! You will learn wokeness doesn’t pay. >>>DELETED APP ! Far better around

Great Program, But Let Down. This is really smooth: chose meals by category, break down by cuisine, health options, ingredient type, whatever. The ability to generate a shopping list from the recipes is really smart, too. However, it's totally let down by the lack of metric measurements, making this program utterly useless large populations of the planet. Way to drop the ball, guys. The iTunes store is world wide, please embrace it's global popularity.

A REALLY great app with beautiful recipes and great functionality, even for those who use metric!. I think this is one of the best designed iPhone apps I have used. I really like the ability to add the recipe to a shopping list. Search is useful. This is a well designed app, and worth the inconvenience of converting units. Besides, I would imagine a future update will probably address the unit conversion in some way or another I think most users would appreciate the overwhelming positives of this app. Give it a try if you love interesting and great recipes!

Love it. I love the idea of this app. I love that you can select multiple recipes & create a shopping list, I would love to be able to email the shopping list to others too! One minor issue that ive come across is the sensitivity of the shopping list view as I often accidently check off items when I touch the screen to scroll through.

This app contains advertising :-(. No mention in the description that there is advertising in this app - you will have to wait about 5-10 seconds before the ad will disappear. This is very annoying. I did not expect to see a soft drink advert when I used this app. Secondly the measurements used are in lbs/oz - much of the world actually uses kgs/gms - would have been useful to offer this option.

Beautiful app. Lovely interface, dead simple to use, recipes are some of the best I've seen - beats googling around. It's only missing one  because WE NEED METRIC I'll definitely change my review when you add this simple feature. Till then, I'll have to stick with switching between the recipe and a unit conversion app.

Favorite App!. This has become my absolute favorite app to cook with - I actually find it quite intuitive and everything ive tried so far (3/4 or 4/4) have been real winners. Only wish that I could save my filters so that I didn't have to input them each time - a small but relatively handy option :) thank you :)

Love it.. Diverse collection of recipes. Love the layout of the app. :)

Good but... According to the US CIA World Factbook in 2006, the International System of Units [metric system] is the official system of measurement for all nations except for Myanmar, Liberia, and the United States. [taken from wikipedia]. so cmon, cater for our superior system of units, and put in metric. then it will receive my 5 stars

Amazing!!!. I really love this app. It gets me really excited about cooking dinner when I get home. (Even after a busy day)

Not happy. This used to be a great app… easy to search, quick to respond and it was free!! Now that we are paying for it, it’s slow, freezes constantly and shuts down frequently. My recipe box is barely accessible and this morning, when I searched ‘bell pepper’ no results were found. Seriously? Half my saved recipes contain that ingredient. This app is a huge failure. I will not be renewing unless the app actually becomes functional again.

App Doesn’t Work. I used the free APP for ever and loved it. I even added some favourite recipes to have them in one place. Once it moves to subscription I didn’t sign up immediately and now that I have I find that the App doesn’t work. I can’t seem to access recipes.

Absolutely Useless Unless You Pay. Lots of great pictures of recipes, names of recipes and variety of recipes, but if you want to try one, you MUST pay for a subscription. The app is totally useless unless you pay a monthly subscription. VERY disappointed. This used to be a good app without paying.

Bad faith. I would have appreciated a good faith announcement about what was going to happen when I updated the app. Now I’ve suddenly lost access to recipes saved and used for fifteen years unless I choose to pay a subscription. Not to mention the fact that the app feels buggy and doesn’t work as well as it used to. Feeling very torn because this change was poorly executed and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Will likely not subscribe.

Room for improvement. I paid for the subscription never having used the app before so I am not in the group that lost all their recipes. I did however pay for a Bon appétit magazine subscription for several years and it seems like I’m paying twice for recipes I already paid for… I don’t have too many issues with the app itself. One thing that is an annoyance is if I have a recipe open and I need to switch between pages on my phone (browser, notes app, instagram, etc.) when I go back to the Epi app, it brings me back to the main page as if the app had been closed. Please fix it so that it stays on the recipe you were on!

Used to be good. Prior to the subscription model, this app always worked pretty reliably. Since that time, it has not. In the past year, I have had multiple issues with the app not opening or loading for days at a time, and now it’s telling me that I need to subscribe in order to view content. I have an active subscription, but can’t currently access it through the app. My experience with customer service has been very disappointing. It takes days for them to respond, and it’s clear when they do respond that they haven’t fully read or understood my messages. I have sent screenshots that were supposed to be passed on to tech support, who I was told would contact me. They never did. The subscription is $$$, but the service is terrible.

HORRIBLE. This app is absolutely horrible. It lags. It crashes. It reloads completely if god forbid you pivot to another app. I’ve resorted to using the browser on my phone to pull up recipes on the website instead. Oh, and if you try to report these problems to customer service, they’ll say it’s your phone’s fault.

Conde Nash middle finger to customer. I purchased this app because it was suppose to be a one time payment for recipe access. Until they change their mind I guess. I understand the digital economy, blah, blah, blah. Why would anybody trust you with a subscription? “ Well, your wish was granted and starting today, for a small one-time fee of $1.99, you can have universal access to all of your go-to recipes, whether you're on the Epicurious site, or using the iPhone/iPad app. Just connect to iTunes and the rest is easy”

Terrible. I cannot see any recipes that I click on anymore. And yes I have a subscription.

I used to love this app. Now my recipe book is gone and the search function is terrible…plus I now get to pay for this mess.

Greek Potatoes. I love these potatoes and so do my kids. The only problem is having to take them out to add stock and then again to add lemon. When I’m making a multi course family dinner, I put all the ingredients in at once and skip the 3 steps to save me having to keep my timer going.

You ruined my favorite app. Hi, Your new app is a disaster. It’s terribly buggy and I can’t open my saved recipes. And you eliminated so many recipe filters. I am not impressed at all. Bring back the old app

I’m not paying. For a product that was always for free. Goodbye and it will be google from now on

Love the recipes. Great fun cooking with all the recipes

App crashes all of the time. This app used to be top notch- and indispensable to my enjoyment of cooking from Bon Appetite for years. Now it crashes within minutes of opening. Very frustrating and disappointing. New subscribers beware.

I used to love this app. You've improved it to the point that my 6 year old review is no longer relevant. However I updated this review to say fix the search function. It crashes when I use it!

Long time user who left due to overpriced sub.. I was a user who raved and recommended the app until this past fall when they rolled out their subscription. Far too costly for an app that just aggregates articles and recipes from other publications.

Crash boom. This ap now keeps crashing now that I am paying for it. WHAT is going on. Used to be great, now I’m seriously thinking of ditching it.

So sad. This used to be my go to app for recipes, but. It that you need to pay to use I’ve deleted it. With google and Pinterest it seems counterproductive to charge for a recipe app

Can’t sign in & broken links. I can no longer log in and see my saved recipes. Also, the links for recipes inside recipes (example: dressings or a side dish) are all broken! This has been annoying for months.

May as well google now.. No warning just an update to a new pay service. Basically useless now unless you pay for it and from the other reviews even then it’s broken. I’m off to google new recipes now.

Simply doesn’t work. I have a subscription … my library recognizes my digital subscription, the annoying web version recognizes my subscription, but the app? NEVER. It keeps telling me I need to subscribe. The whole epicurious experience has gone from being great when it was free to a piece of junk now you have to pay for it. I am not planning on renewing my subscription.

Great app, some annoying things. Love the app, love the recipes and it’s easy to use. However, (at least on iPhone) it doesn’t stay on the recipe I’m making when I navigate to a different app or my phone falls asleep. Not the biggest issue but definitely annoying to constantly have to find what I was just looking at.

Sign in issues. I’ve been using this app since it used to be free. I was forced to pay a subscription in order to keep using it. I don’t mind paying a subscription ( then after pay for the full price I get tons of emails to subscribe at much lower prices). I love the recipes and selection. When I can access them. There have been several times when the app gets hung up and I can’t access anything. And today I was asked to sign in and then it said I was signed in as someone else. I tried to sign out and when I tried to sign in again it was someone else’s email address automatically being put in. Super frustrated because I want to sign in and get one of my saved recipes! I’m going to unsubscribe if nothing is fixed. I’ve sent a message about this.

This used to be my favorite app… but no more. Some of the best features of this app are now gone, especially the ability to filter recipes by specific ingredients, which was great for figuring out what to cook with what you already have on hand! I find this app now confusing to navigate. I don’t care if this comes from Bon Appétit or Epicurious or other. Just give me the great recipes you are known for with easy-to-filter options again. Also, I love subscribing to magazines but I don’t love the new look of Bon Appetit so paying for this app to get this subscription isn’t something I care to do so I’ll be cancelling my subscription after less than a year.

New Version does not compare to original. I have loved using the Epicurious App for years, constantly going back to my saved recipes. Now that we have to pay to subscribe, I cannot access the site half the time, and can no longer print out my recipes. Getting only a grey screen again today! Unsubscribing as soon as I can access the App again!

No end to corporate greed. Another app deleted. For some reason, these idiots think that a subscription based model has advantages over an ad based model. They’ll soon learn that screwing their loyal fan base will only result in the app being relegated to the dust bin. Arrivederci.

Issue trying to sign in. Can’t even get into the app on my iPhone. Enter my correct email and password and it throws me right back to the sign in page.... no error message.... nothing.

Site does not work anymore. This was my favourite app - I used it all the time, for several years, saved my best recipe successes and for the last 6 months, I have not been able to access my account, even though they charge me monthly!

3 Stars for unlimited Bon Appetit access but. It BOGGLES my mind that half of the recipes on this app don’t have a photo. It’s crazy actually.

Not paying for recipes I paid for with past magazine subscription. Was a subscriber of Gourmet and Bon Appétit for many years. I saved my favourite recipes on the app because keeping all magazine was not possible. Now I have to pay for recipes I already paid for? I refuse to do so.

Great when it works…. I loved this app when it worked. Now every time I try and look at a recipe on my iPad it crashes!! So disappointed. I don’t like using the web version because it doesn’t let me search my saved recipes

Missing my saved recipes.. Very disappointed that you got rid of all my saved recipes. Guess I shouldn’t trust apps

your App is, shall we say politely, not good. Biggest weakness of your app is the ‘Saved Recipe’ feature. I have a ton of recipes that I’ve saved in order to save on paper, however, to find anything, you need to know or remember the exact title of the recipe, eg. for Unstuffed Sweet and Sour Cabbage Rolls, I need to remember that the title is Unstuffed sweet-and-sour Cabbage Rolls. A search on Cabbage Rolls in the recipe box brings up nothing. Also, there is no way to classify recipes into categories like meat, fish, pasta etc. unlike the capability of the New York Times recipe App. Again, I have lots of recipes but can’t find them unless I scroll through all the recipes. It’s a really poorly designed App!!

Absolutely horrible search engine. Just subscribed annually to keep track of the recipes I’ve been saving the last 15 years and am unbelievably disappointed. There’s no rhyme or reason to the search engine, and half the time it doesn’t pull up what you’re searching for. Recipes are all jumbled together, no categories to distinguish between mains or desserts or soups, etc. And, a lot of the recipes I’ve saved are missing from my saved recipes. I would expect a lot more from this since I’m paying an annual fee! Epicurious, go back to the old search engine and recipe library. It was way, way better than this crappy library you have now. Super disappointed.

A shadow of its former self. I used to love this app but since they started charging for it, it’s gone way downhill. Slow, closes on me, lost all my saved recipes and zero support. There have got to better recipe apps!

Failed Subscription. Try as I might the app completely failed to properly give me access to the recipes after I subscribed. What a waste. Too bad, Epicurious was a great site but it seems that greed combined with incompetence win out.

Does not work. Started a free trial the app would not let me in, and ask for some weird website login I’ve never heard of. Cancelling subscription.

Saving items. Save my first item three times and it showed saved and yet never shows up when I went back in!!!!! Great site for food but horrible if you want to keep recipes!!!!!!

always resets. Love the recipes but the app resets every time my phone locks or I go to another app (for example to set a timer while cooking) so then you have to search for the recipe and where you left off again. Takes away from the flow and enjoyment of cooking. Would also love to be able to organize saved recipes.

What happened to my subscription. I subscribed to the Epicurious site some time ago and the subscription has not been recognized since. Either it tells me I’m subscribed under a different email address or asks me to log out but either way I’m invited to use a seven-day free trial. What does Conde Nast want??

Come on. Considering the brands that you represent, can you not have pictures for your recipes? This screams budget app. Why did I subscribe if the experience is this bad?

Great recipes bad organization. There’s tons of great recipes on the app but it would be a lot more useful if the app allows saving recipes into folders/ different menus. It’s hard to find saved recipes since it all goes into one folder.

Deleted the app. There was a time when this app was great and the recipes were delicious. But now that I have to pay to subscribe in order to gain access to the recipes is unfathomable, so I’m deleting the app.

WHAT A JOKE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. This app is a JOKE. Totall waste of time. The Recipe Box upgrade is a scam to get money from you. All it does it shows you ADS It does NOT sync with your WEB page. You can send as many concerns to Epicurious as you want, they do not care and do not respond to your concerns. I am not able to look for anything in this app, I get locked out after the first recipe. I can not get anything from my Recipe Box, won't sync. The only thing I have been able to get is ADS.

No longer working. This app used to be 5 stars. But in the last few months every time I try to email or print a recipe, the app crashes. I have to resort to the web version. Too bad.

Crashes nonstop. Brutal app. $50/year. Crashes every 30 seconds. Have to hurry and write this before it crashes again.

Epicurious. When the app works it is fine but I would say it only works 50% of the time . Wants you to sign in but will not let you in, loses all your saved recipes. Not worth the hassle.

Great recipes. I follow the recipes closely and the stars ratings. Fantastic recipes always. Thank you.

Not the same app it was. All the existing ratings and reviews of this app are now misleading and not accurate as they have changed this app entirely in recent weeks. You can no longer access any saved recipes for free since the update. Everything is behind a paywall so you have to subscribe. It used to be a very handy tool and you could search & filter recipes based on multiple ingredients or what you had on hand. Doesn’t look like you can do that anymore either.

Best Brownies!!!. I can not compliment this recipe enough. I Did Not have to put a 1/2 cup of oil in it like the boxed brands. They are concise and lay low so I decided to cut smaller squares too. The portion control is warranted because the Taste is perfect with a small square! I only reduced the sugar to a cup because of others suggestions. I did not have parchment paper so I did spray oil into ceramic rectangular pans and set timers for 20 mins, then 5 & then shut my amazing 20 year old Gaggenau blue wall ovens off and waited for a few minutes. I did not double the batch, I made separate single batches. All 4 boys and my husband enjoyed them immensely. Then I ate one..... what a mistake! I will be eating too many of these tomorrow!

Don’t waste your money. I used to love Gourmet, Bon Appetit etc but now that this site has gone nuts, it’s not worth it. I was a magazine subscriber for decades and paid for the Epicurious app since they required payment to access the recipes online. The week before Thanksgiving the site was “upgraded” it worked so well that I lost over 100 recipes stored on the site. I called repeatedly for some help restoring the recipes only no one will answer the phone over the last week nor will they respond to emails requesting help. As an update they finally answered and had no idea if I would get them back. Now it’s mid January 2023 and the site is still a mess, a few of my recipes are back but now I can’t print any recipes or even access them, that has been this way for 2 weeks. I want my money back.

New version is a hi-jack. I’ve had the Epicurious app for years and had saved dozens of recipes. Imagine my dismay when I’m getting ready to make one of my saved recipes for dinner only to discover that I can’t access them until I purchase a subscription! No warning, unless it was sent as an email that undoubtedly would have been spam filtered anyway. I understand the idea/need for the subscription model, but to take all the recipes I’d saved and basically hold them for ransom unless I subscribe really irks me. This version seems buggy too because I have to keep signing out and sign back in to see the saved recipes and the methods do always appear. I have 6 more days to figure out if I even want to keep this app. I’m leaning on canceling and deleting.

I love Epicurious!. I've been using this cooking app for YEARS, and trust it to provide accurate reviews along with strategic changes suggested by reviewers, that can take a 4* recipe and turn it into a 5*! Great variety of recipes, personal notes, individual shopping lists for specific recipe ingredients, etc., keep me coming back! Thanks to everyone sharing their favorite family recipes and those reviewers sharing their thoughts on possibly improving/tweaking the recipe with some substitutions, additions, or replacements after making it themselves!

Used to love it … now it’s a piece of …. Epicurious used to provide recipes that were good but it also allowed you to store your own recipes. I went on it today and discovered that as of April this year, you can no longer access the recipes you uploaded there. I haven’t cooked for myself in a while so I hadn’t opened the app and I never received notification … if they sent one, maybe it went to spam? Now I have no access to those recipes that I never stored anywhere else. I wasn’t thrilled when they started charging for the ability to store recipes but I did it because I had so much this app. And now I don’t have access to them anymore?? I’m really upset and will be canceling my subscription immediately.

Go-to recipe repository. I have been using some version of this app since it was only an online website. Some versions have been incompatible with my OS but it seems to have caught up. I love that I can search for recipes by ingredients I have on hand, and I like, being able to save them to a recipe box. My online recipe box and my app recipe box do not sync, but that’s not a deal breaker for me. I do wish it was easy to review a recipe 8n the app, as far as I can tell that function is not enabled, so some of the recipe reviews may be skewed by having only computer user reviews. Solid recipe repository and most recipes are well-curated.

Easy, helpful, reviews... favorite!. I find this app to be my favorite place to get online recipes. Reasons are it gives without asking for money or clicks, it has a large variety of recipes, most of them have reviews, and it is easy to save recipes for future needs. I like checking it out for new recipes because I am not shown ads or otherwise annoyed by obstacles to simply finding good recipes. That is the goal and this app delivers. Is it perfect? No, I can’t get any of the videos to play, some recipes don’t have a photo, some don’t have any or very few reviews and there aren’t very many gluten free choices yet.

Good app but bad search function. Good app overall, but search is a bit weak for basic items. Case in point: I just searched for “ketchup”—hardly a rarity in the kitchen—and the first few items that came up were things you could put ketchup on (which, let’s be honest, is at least a half of all dishes in the world), rather than… ketchup. It’s not that ketchup doesn’t show up, it’s just buried. When I applied a “vegan” filter, it showed me “spicy cola barbecue sauce”—getting warmer, but not quite there. Even kimchi was the same thing: searching for “kimchi” shows dishes that use kimchi (“kimchi quesadillas”), not kimchi itself. So, I’m deleting this app. Probably it’s good for meal or dish ideas, but not for making components of dishes.

Hate the new app version. I’ve been with Epicurious for over a decade. I’ve used and saved so many recipes! I also use the list feature to create my grocery list. About a year ago the app launched a new design and became a paid app. It’s gone downhill since. I can no longer create lists directly in app, I can only copy to clipboard. I cannot search the way I used to and when I do use search option, it’s limited. For example there’s no low carb or low sugar option for recipe lookup. I also cannot search my dish type. I wanted an appetizer recipe for NYE but cannot search this way. Iy’s extreme annoying that now I’m paying for an app I e used for years and this version is worse than the free app!!! I’m likely cancelling.

LOVE EPI APP ! 💕. I’ve been using EPI for years and I cannot say enough good things about it. I’m quite skilled in the culinary arts yet I still have much to learn. I often use it to enhance my own recipes or just to confirm cook times or temps. I recommend this app to everyone I ‘talk turkey’ with, and have received many thank you bottles & dinner party invites in return. I use EPI for ideas, inspiration, and on many days as therapy. Gotta chop, slice and dice to relax. ENJOY it as I do and you will never be stressed. The only thing it could do better would be to send me a prep cook or sous chef! A five star rating is given and is truly well deserved. If you enjoy cooking you’ll love this app.

Fabulous app for anyone who likes food!. Easily search through the tested recipes of multiple famous food magazines. Reading reviews and ideas from other home cooks always gives me more confidence. Once you find the recipe you want, it is possible to scroll thru the ingredients separately from the instructions, which is a feature I really love because I am constantly switching between the two. It’s also easy to save recipes you love to a recipe box! My current favorite is the Grill-Roasted Sicilian Chicken. Enjoy!

Update has rendered app and website useless. Once this was free. Now I am paying a fee and the app and website have gone form industry best to completely unusable. I have been using Epicurious since it’s inception 20 years ago. You can no longer enter ingredient and get a list of potential recipes, no longer sort on “most reviewed”, half the time my recipes disappear and reappear from your saved recipes. There is not much correlation between the website and the app in term of saved recipes, for example on the website I have 500 Recipes saved and on the app none. Tomorrow it will be something else random and different. If someone does happen to read this, when they first had this website it was an option to print recipe books. That would be amazing. My boys are now leaving the house and would love to make one as a gift.

Pleasing Caesar Dressing. Everyone’s in my house loves Caesar salad. We usually buy the expensive dressing in the store. Somehow the salad was ready but I forgot to check how much dressing we had on hand. There wasn’t much left in the store bought bottle. In spite of the fact that I measured everything by eye and didn’t have champagne vinegar - the dressing came out exactly tasting like the store bought stuff! At first I put in too much vinegar and it wasn’t right. I added a little extra Worcestershire sauce and two heaping tablespoons of real mayonnaise. Really perfect and easy to Prepare in a pinch.

Terrible App - Major Letdown. I sue to be an Epicurious fanatic. It was my first place to go for recipes and holiday menu ideas, but that changed when they decided to make it a subscription. I need to make a recipe I haven’t made in a while, so in order to see it, I caved and got a subscription. Really awful to realize that over time the app was butchered. It use to be stable, easy to navigate, and a joy to use. The shopping list feature was also used quite often. Now, your saved recipes only load about 10% of the photos, the home page almost never loads at all, and they have gotten rid of the shopping list feature. I have no idea who’s amazing idea it was to ruin a wonderful app and then charge people a fee for the unique experience of using the wreckage.

Recent changes are not for the better. Like several other reviewers have said, this had been my go-to recipe app, too. It was so user-friendly and really actually enjoyable when searching for new recipes. Now, accessing any recipes—including those I’d already saved and accessed many times in the past—requires a subscription. No thank you. This change in no way has been an improvement to the users; instead, it a real disappointment and slap in the face for our long-time loyalty. I did actually sign up for the free trial with this new subscription model, but just long enough to retrieve my saved favorites. The search function is now clumsy to use and if there is a way to print recipes, I couldn’t find it; I had to copy and paste the recipes, instead. I will be seeking out a new recipe app.

Delicious. Have made it multiple times with different combinations of berries and summer fruit- blueberries, strawberries, peaches, blackberries, raspberries... anything works and in any combo! (Blueberries, strawberries and peaches combo is my favorite). I don’t add any sugar to the fruit- just some flour, lemon zest and cinnamon. I make a different topping which I like better but it’s similar to the one listed. I know people will say “if you make something different from recipe how can you rate it”, well this recipe works as written but sometimes changes make it better and more to a persons own liking.

Goodbye After 14 years with Epicurious. I have used web-based Epicurious since 2006 to search and save recipes. I then switched to the app which worked ok but each update brought more difficulties - missing recipes, cumbersome layout, poor search engine. However, it was the most recent updates, that made the app literally unusable. I am unable to log-in to see my Recipe Box. Every time I input my email and password, the app takes me right back to the Log In screen. I am using the most recent IOS version and the up is up to date. I have tried deleting the app. I have changed my password. All I get is the Log In screen. Luckily I am still able to log-in to the website using an Internet browser so I’ll be copying my saved recipes and transferring them to another FUNCTIONAL app.

They just can’t get it right. I downloaded this app many years ago and deleted it because it was so cumbersome to use and had so many bugs. Recently I came across an Epicurious article I wanted to read. Every time I clicked a recipe (online not the app) I was blocked until I signed in. So go to the web and see if you can find a site with a similar recipe but that didn’t always work so I signed up with Epicurious. Great now I have access! Not really, I click a recipe, it gives ingredients but when you get to prep I see the recipe until I try to scroll further down and then it blocks me again and says to sign in. I’m already signed in. Augh! Okay download the app that’s gotta work. Again nope, just keeps crashing on me. I’ve resorted to trying to take quick screenshots of recipes. It’s a whole deal and so not worth the trouble.

Great recipes, terrible app. I have used Epicurious religiously for many, many years. The app continues to be SO frustratingly glitchy. It crashes for no reason, especially when I try to copy a recipe link to paste it into my recipe management app, and recently I spent an hour saving recipes only to find that none of them saved in my recipe box. Less of a problem, but my other suggestion would be to invest in fixing your keyword/filtering. It is not uncommon to search something like “seafood” and find a muffin recipe in there, or to use one of their preset filters and end up with a list of recipes that is far too short to possibly be inclusive of all the recipes in that category.

Great recipes, glitchy app. I’ve been using the Epicurious app for a few years, and have been a subscriber most of that time. I like the huge database of recipes, the clarity of the recipe instructions, and the helpful comments of users. I use it all the time. But the iPhone and iPad apps are very glitchy, especially when it comes to printing. Currently (Nov. 2021) both apps are unable to print anything and the app suddenly dies when you try. This has been going on for some months. The website is less glitchy. But there is no way to report problems or get answers to questions. It’s very disappointing, especially as a paying subscriber to the magazine.

Horrible- updated!. I your app regularly. I have had saved recipes for years. I just updated the app and subscribed for the year and ALL my recipes are GONE! It’s the day before Thanksgiving!! I called them to fix it and the said the generic uninstall the app and reinstall it, delete cookies and reinstall it, guess what?! Didn’t work. Save yourself before the holiday cooking rush!! Don’t update the app. Be careful when you subscribe to take your receipes first. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible!! Update- here we are weeks later and after still paying for the app that doesn’t show any saved recipes, and after many customer service emails, no one tries to help! Condé Nast writes “we want to help you,” but based in all the other reviews and my experience so far, it sure doesn’t seem like they mean it.

Prepare to pay. The app has been a bit buggy, and would crash sometimes after entering a word in the search bar. It was once possible to view as many recipes as you wanted for free, then it was only possible to see a few recipes for free every month. They have now switched to a complete paywall, which is quite pricey. And they no longer create meat recipes and possibly other ingredients they deem ethically problematic, like kale or fish. They kept the old recipes, but they aren’t promoting them or making new ones. They have the best meatball recipe I’ve ever tried. Anyways, I’ll be using my old cookbooks for now, until it’s free (in some capacity) again.

Latest update ruined the app. I had been using Epicurious for years and loved the app. I had hundreds of recipes including some I had entered on my own (a feature they used to have was entering your own recipe to access it within the app). They recently updated the app. Boy was I in for a shock when I opened the updated app. I had 45 saved recipes instead of the hundreds I had prior to the update. I also couldn’t open any of the saved recipes unless I now pay $4.99/mo for the app. No thank you. My lost recipes will never come back since they have deleted all recipes from their database published prior to 2018. Why? All of these changes were made with no notice to app users. I’ve now deleted the app and I’m done with Epicurious.

You’ve lost me as a user. I used to subscribe to the print version of Bon Appetit in the early 2000s, then used the Epi website for years saving the recipes online. I have close to 300. Glad I spent the time last year downloading ALL of them into the Paprika App when Epi first started revamping the website and butchering the saved recipe feature. I had mostly been using the app/website for the reviews on the recipes as opposed to adding new ones. And now with the updated app, it has been rendered useless without payment. For stuff I had access to for free, for decades, that’s messed up. If you’re going to charge for access, it should be $1 a month. Its not worth more than that. You’d keep more long time customers if you make that change.

Formally essential. Now? Paywall makes it a “Nope.”. Quick bullet points of what’s gone wrong: - I’ve used Epi for a decade, and now in Nov ‘22, Epicurious has switched to a subscription model. Tonight’s update locked me out of my “Recipe Box” (now called “Saved Recipes”) until I pay the new $4.99 a month subscription. - My collection of “Saved Recipes” from the past 10 years has lowered to about 3/4 of what it was. I have no idea what recipes have vanished. - The ‘Search’ feature is remarkably underpowered - and that’s being polite. A partial entry of a recipe’s name doesn’t yield a result for recipe - even one you were just looking at, and even entering exactly the recipe name in a screenshot (from the previous version of the app minutes before updating) still didn’t find the recipe. - Once you do get a search result, any search or category you tap on is immediately blocked by a cold “Recipes are for subscribers only” dialog box. Fine. I’m looking elsewhere while I decide if this is worth $4.99 a month to me. Certainly it is to many, but the abrupt change in app behavior and usability has left me with a bad taste.

New App poor functionality. Was recently forced to start paying for the Epicurious app which I had used for years. Epicurious was sending emails for months to “encourage” people to subscribe, but never came out and said you would lose all your saved recipes if you didn’t. The reckoning came unannounced when suddenly I was cut off from access and I had to pay. After signing up for a one year subscription, only 100 of my saved recipes were carried over. Also, like many upgraded software products, the new app has more style than substance.

This App Doesn’t Work - Do NOT Purchase. Restarts, updating to latest software, all of the “fixes” suggested by this team do nothing to solve the issues facing their entire user base; fact is that the app simply doesn’t work. This used to be the best recipe application and now it’s entirely worthless despite the fact that you’re now charged to use it. I finally got the app to load on my iPad just for the app to tell me that I don’t have an account despite having paid for a full year’s subscription just over a month ago via Apple’s App Store. Clearly their login method changing has broken any ability to link a purchase made with your AppleID. Do not purchase this app unless you enjoy flushing money down the toilet.

Disappointed. Truly disappointed with the changes. It used to be a good app. I did start the free trial just to emergency rescue recipes and save them somewhere safer. I don't plan on having it go to pay, so I am rushing. I was shocked it used to be free, and there are other ways to find free recipes and different free apps. Most recipes, with a bit of searching, can also be found in other ways. Also, some are missing now. Luckily, I have a printed copy of the one I needed that could have screwed up plans, but now I have to ensure a digital version of that gets saved, and any other from this app might come down to spending a few hours retyping a few of them. The app and account will most likely be deleted after the free trial, as it is a useless app if a paywall is blocking everything.

Ruined a good thing. Don’t waste your money. This app used to be a great app when it was free. Once they started charging for it it all went down hill. I encounter a glitch every time I use it. From losing access to my saved recipes to the search features pulling up the wrong recipes (search for dairy free and you’ll only get recipes with tons of dairy), to regularly crashing while in the middle of cooking from a recipe. Now I can’t even open the app, it just crashes. I’ve saved dozens, maybe hundreds of recipes over the years. There are really great recipes on here -if you can even open the app- but I’m tired of the dysfunction so I will not be renewing my subscription. Sad to lose such an awesome resource but they just can’t seem to get their act together.

Recipes are great, app not so much.. I’ve been using this for years. It’s my go to for new recipients. Why they can’t get the app right is beyond me. I went through a stage when it just constantly crashed for no reason. That’s less frequent now(still happens though), but it just cannot be relied on to save your recipes. You just never know if what you save to your recipe box will take or not. Depends on the day or the phases of the moon or I don’t know what! Sooo frustrating to spend significant time gathering recipes for an event, only to realize it was all wasted since none of it was saved. When are you folks gonna finally fix this bug??!

Great resource and entertainment. I’ve been using Epicurious for many years. It’s always my “go to” place for ideas. I rarely follow recipes exactly do I usually read through a number of recipes and combine the best of each. I also get ideas from the reviews. This is dodo where the entertainment factor kicks in. I love how people review a recipe and give it “forks” even when they use none of the ingredients. Maybe there should be a different system for reviewing recipes when you modify the recipe to the point where it’s a whole new recipe. Anyway I have a number of favorite “go to” recipes which I love and many more saved that I want to try.

Won’t open. Last night, when I opened the app, it went white on me, and just froze. I deleted the app, then reopened it. There weren’t any links available, where there normally were. When you click on where there should be external links, but black space, the mobile phone cautioned how there is a danger with opening the link. Anyway, I tried to open again a moment ago, but went back to the white screen of death. There is something seriously wrong with the app. I used it for years, and depend on it. Now I can’t just not use it, but can’t open it.

I use this app almost every day. The Epicurious app never jams or stalls and it’s easy to use. It not only has thousands of recipes, it also allows me to read the reviews written by cooks who have tried the recipes and I can see the overall rating on each. There is a feature that lets you put the ingredients of a recipe into your shopping list, which is super helpful. Another feature lets you keep recipes you like in a personal ‘recipe box.’ Sometimes I browse for recipes I might like to try in the future and when I find one I save it to my recipe box. It’s pretty cool.

What happened ? 👩🏻‍🍳. Was once a wonderful app and used it for so many years. I stored hundreds of recipes on this app in lieu of saving old copies of cookbooks, Bon Appetit and Gourmet Magazine. Just discovered all the recipes in my ‘recipe box’ mysteriously disappeared and tried to restore them but instead was prompted to pay for a yearly subscription first. No thanks Epi. I’ll go back to looking them up on the internet and will be happy to go to my local library to borrow cookbooks and magazines for free. Worse, NO warning or heads up with just a few weeks before the holidays they do this! Very poor timing. Was preparing to use some of the recipes that have become part of our family holiday tradition for years. Thanks Epicurious it was nice while it lasted! 🙋🏻‍♀️

My Go To App!. I love my Epicurious companion. Whenever I want to prepare a nice meal for my wife and family I open my app and find our family favorites in my own recipe box. I love finding new family faves using the Epicurious ratings as a strong influencing guide. How many will make it again? How many stars/forks? Useful reviews as well helping my to provide even more ideas to make my dishes even more exciting. The shopping list is great to have as I shop for the planned meals. Epicurious has made me a star family chef. It has found a permanent place on my iPhone and iPad.

This app is terrible now. I have used the Epicurious app for years and it was always fantastic. Like many other users, I had saved hundreds of recipes. I went in one day and they were all gone. No warning. I had to subscribe in order to get them back. I don’t mind paying for the app since I use it every day, but the hostage situation made me furious. Still, I sucked it up up and subscribed. But now the app is terrible. My recipes are still gone. When I search them up, they’re marked as saved. But when I go to my saved recipes, it says I have none. I can’t save any new recipes. And I can’t search my saved recipes anymore. It’s so disappointing, because I really loved Epicurious. They had a wonderful app and they ruined it. I will have to find another recipe app. I want my money back.

Have to pay AND the app is terrible. I love Epicurious and Bon Appetit and have used the app for years. When they asked for a subscription to have access, I didn’t mind because I used to love the magazine. HOWEVER, the app now is TERRIBLE! So, I paid and it’s worse! This is a crime! You can’t search for recipes the same way and they don’t have as many filters. The app times out ALL the time. Most of my saved recipes have been lost—oddly only the really old ones were there and not the ones I saved 1-2 years ago. PLEEEEAAASSSSEEEE fix this app. I will gladly continue my subscription if the app works well and is easy to use. I used to use it almost daily and now I use The New York Times cooking app—it is amazing to use. Your going to lose long time users/customers to NYT if you don’t make this better.

Love the site. Hate your search.. I love the site and the recipes. But your search function is irritatingly specific. For example. I knew I had saved my go-to thumbprint cookie recipe. But I couldn’t find it to save my life. Turns out the word “cookie” wasn’t in the title, even though “thumbprint” was. So if I included “cookie” in my search it didn’t show up. I had to scroll through all my saved recipes (a lot) to find that it wasn’t “thumbprint cookies” it was “thumbprints”. I realize this is a tech issue, not a cooking issue. But we can’t cook it till we can find the recipe in the first place.

I can always find something good to cook!. Epicurious is the best recipe website and recipe storage ap, and has been so for many years! The search engines are great if you want to use what you have and if you are looking for interesting ways to prepare foods that you like. The reviews are helpful to help you understand good substitutions and, entertaining to read when you see folks that substitute 7 items in an 8 item recipe and then wonder what went wrong. Great for sharing your recipes as well.

Ruined App. Have used Epicurious for years and have always enjoyed the App’s recipes. I paid the $40 subscription fee gladly because I felt the recipes were worth the money. At first I could assess new recipes but not my saved recipes. Now I can’t access any recipes, just lovely useless photos of dishes that won’t show a recipe. Same in my recipe box. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the App several times and nothing changes, this is so disappointing. I wish they’d fess up that their software developers totally screwed up and refund our money. There are other Apps I would much rather download that actually work. Hoping they are able to fix this total fiasco.

Well.... I downloaded this app and decided to browse some recipes. It seems to be a decent app with a vast array of recipes and some cool search options. But, it’s hard to ascertain just how good it is when, after about 7 minutes, I was asked-via an irritating pop up-to rate the app...3 TIMES!!! Seriously, if you want an honest opinion, give the user at least 5 uninterrupted minutes before asking what he/she thinks. It takes at least that long to form an appraisal that’s not fueled by irritated sarcasm. At the very least, add the “Never Ask Again” option to the “Rate Me Now, Goshdarnit!!!” pop up. Hope this helps.

No Notification of significant changes. I’ve been using this app for years-I think I paid for it initially-opened it today after the update to find a significant number of my saved recipes gone and the ones that are left are behind a pay wall. I feel like some of these old friends are being held hostage. I can search for recipes, but I have to pay for them now—again and forever. There was NO NOTICE of this change to this very popular app—Very Bad Customer Service—In My Opinion. Also, the changes to the search functions are horrible. You advertise 50,000 recipes with no filters to drill down through the database and find what kind dish you are looking for. I’m guessing you’re going to lose A LOT of loyal fans.

Still not working well. I had reported to Epicurious that the app was not working over a month ago. They emailed me to suggest steps I already said I tried in my first email. They emailed me again about taking a survey. They never sent an update. The app is now showing more of my saved recipes but not all. It is very slow and glitchy. When I look through my saved recipes, after I click on one it takes 30 seconds to appear, then it takes another 30 seconds to go back to my saved list. It always returns to the top of the page instead of where I left off. I regret buying a subscription. This app had been nothing but trouble since I started paying for access. I have been using the app for many years. I’m about to abandon it.

Love the recipes. I love the recipes that come from Epicurious. They are well written and easy to follow. The functionality of finding a recipe and creating a shopping list is great too. I find the reviews and rating system useful as well. The reason I give the app only three stars is because the search function is so bad. It has no intuitiveness so to find a recipe you have to use the exact name of the recipe (which I can never remember). Even searching the primary ingredients doesn’t necessarily yield the results it should. Many times I end up backing out and going to google which will find the recipe ON EPICURIOUS! You’ve got to fix that feature.

Great recipe base; horrible, buggy app!. I don’t understand how this app can charge so much and still be so buggy. It is completely unusable at times! I have the newest iPhone, with the latest updated software. App is up to date. I search recipes; it quits. I search my recipe box; it quits. I scroll around on the home page too scared to click anything; it quits. I go to settings to write hate mail to support; it quits. This is the most expensive recipe app I pay for besides NYT (which almost never has issues). I need these recipes, but I’m at the point of printing my saved ones out, cancelling my subscription and calling it a day. Exasperation over here Epicurious team!!

Ruined a wonderful App. Horrible change decisions were made. I loved the App for years. I spent countless hours researching recipes, saving hundreds of them. Took time to watch the video section. Then the powers that be destroyed everything that was great about it. The search engine is now next to worthless. All the recipes I saved were gone. They monetized the site and App which would have been fine, but then made so many changes to the App that it’s unusable. The designers should be ashamed.

Unstable app. I love this app: a great resource for recipes of all kinds. The most recent updates seem to be rather unstable, with the app crashing frequently or closing unexpectedly, which makes a brilliant product unusable… come on app team, help us to get our favourite recipes back in a readable format. Also the sort / filter options on the newer versions are not as extensive as previous versions. I use this on the fly after work to find a recipe for our family dinner. The better sort / filter options are a time saver for a busy family hustling the kids around our work responsibilities!

I feel duped. I’m not sure how to rationally describe how I feel about Epicurious and their app developers. I’ve used the “F” word so many times in describing to friends and family how much I now loathe this app. I paid $40 for the year subscription to be able to access my recipe box which I had spent years saving recipes to only to have them wiped clean. I have read other places where they have responded to be patient. I feel like I have been. It has been two weeks since I noticed they were requiring the subscription. I feel like my 11 yr old daughter could figure out this debacle faster than they can. I’m so mad. Maybe they need to restrict their recipes to those that use bologna, since that is apparently what this app is made of.

Do not pay - look at reviews after Nov 2022. I used to love Epicurious and their recipes, it was my go to for many years until I paid a yearly subscription hoping that it would fix my issues back on Feb 2022, well, it didn’t. After many calls and contact emails, I found out the app “was being re-vamped”. Then on Nov 2022 the update came out with NO print option. For the past 3 weeks, I was not able to view my recipes on my phone (while still under subscription). I finally requested a refund and I am waiting to see it post in my account. This is not what Epicurious used to be, new cooks might end up paying but be aware of the limitations and the “not user friendly” recipe search and lack of recipe printing option from the app.

My Go-To Recipe App. While I have some minor quibbles with the usability of this app and the instructions can sometimes be lacking (e.g., like whether to cover while roasting, routinely saying “salt” when they clearly mean kosher and not table salt, which changes everything) the quality of the recipes and the overall reliability of the ratings and reviews makes up for it. Unlike a lot of other resources the comments are truly valuable. If you look for the four-fork recipes with a high number of reviews you have a guaranteed winner every time. Green Curry Pork Tenderloin and silver-wrapped chicken are my favorites so far.
