SPL Meter App Description & Overview

What is spl meter app? SPL Meter is a professional-grade sound level meter, also known as a decibel or dB meter, for your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Modeled after a traditional analog SPL meter, we have faithfully reproduced all the characteristics and qualities found in those meters, including the ballistics, ranges, filters, and decay rates.

Under the hood we have advanced DSP-based algorithms that meet or exceed ANSI / IEC Type 1 standards. And starting with iOS 6, we can disable the mic filters and limiters, to get the real world performance of a hand-held SPL meter.

And now, upgrade SPL Meter with iTestMic, our pro-grade test & measurement mic, made specifically for iOS devices. Using iTestMic with SPL Meter, you get a calibrated, accurate SPL Meter, that meets industry standards for Type 2 performance. See our website for more information.

But don't compare us to a Radio Shack meter, ours is much more accurate!

We have also included a digital LCD display, as shown in the image, to make this the best SPL meter available for iPhone or iPad. And this is something that the old analog meters never had!

The screen will flip when you flip the phone over, so that you can point the iPhone mic directly at the sound source. (iPhone X does not support upside down mode)

SPL Meter is a universal app -- buy once, and use on all of your iOS devices.

SPL Meter is built by the same team that created the other great professional audio and acoustics apps on the store, Studio Six Digital. Built on the engine of our more expensive "SPL" app, SPL Meter's filters and decay rates meet or exceed ANSI type 1. This app is not a toy or a game.

SPL Meter is the one audio app that everyone who works in audio must have on their phone! Not only have we made the best one, but we've priced it so you can't afford not to get it.

*** FEATURES:

FILTERS -- A and C weighting filters are provided.

DECAY -- Choose ANSI Fast or Slow.

RANGES -- 40dB to 120dB in 9 ranges.

CALIBRATION -- Comes pre-calibrated for the typical iPhone or iPad built-in and headset mic, but you can adjust the calibration if you have a professional, calibrated meter to compare it to. Accesses our cloud-based iOS device calibration database, which we updates as new devices are released.

INTERNAL / EXTERNAL MIC -- Select Internal to activate the included compensation filter, which is designed to flatten the frequency response of the built-in or headset mic. External will work with our iPhone Measurement Mic, to be released later this summer. See our website for more details.

SPL Meter is bargain-priced to make it easy for anyone to check out one of our professional, accurate apps. Studio Six Digital is dedicated to making the iPhone and Touch a professional audio and acoustics test device.

Check out our full line of professional-grade audio and acoustics apps: SPL, the professional digital iPhone sound level meter, SPL Graph, for recording SPL over time, RTA, a 1/3 octave real-time analyzer, FFT, for detailed acoustic analysis, ETC, the energy-time curve function, RT60, for automated octave-band decay time measurement, Speaker Pop, to test speaker polarity, and Generator, the iPhone signal generator.

Great app. No excuse for not having this on your iPhone if you are involved with audio at all. I play guitar primarily and will use this to check that the amp is set as close as possible to the same output level everytime I have to re-setup. Makes your sound guy happy! For home recording I use this to compare the output of my mix to a similar 'professional' commercial mix when mastering a song. Again, just a handy app to keep on your 'smartphone' for any occasion. Kudos to the developers, one of the few apps left that work with a darn on an iPhone 3G.

Neat but.... Well I don't know how accurate it is. Seemed to max out at around 90db with internal mic. Don't have an external. One thing that is annoying is the round scale knob. It seems to be be very touchy and a pain to set it to a value. Running on 4g iPod touch.

Accurate. I downloaded another app first that didn't work right so I was skeptical on buying this one. I put side by side with a meter here at my office and it performed well. I wish the interface was a bit more indepth but really what more to you need.

Wow! VERY Accurate.... I showed up for a studio sound level check and my professional grade Radio Shack SPL meter had a dead battery! I had 2 auditoriums to check. Checked one auditorium when I realized that I had a spare battery in my car. Compared readings and they were close enough to where I didn't need to recheck.

Calibrated my 5.1 speakers. People are debating how accurate this app is. I don't have a $500 reference grade SPL to check this app against, but I'm inclined to believe the "this app is remarkably accurate" camp. But regardless of how accurate it is against a true reference, people writing reviews of this app are missing the one reason I bought it without een thinking twice; this app is 100% accurate as a *relative* measurement. What I mean is, forget for a moment wether the sound coming to your ears is actually 75dbs like the app says. What I needed for my speaker calibration (and what this app does 100% accurately) is give you a measuring mark by which to set the other speakers. Sure when I was reading 75db out of my center channel from pink noise, the actual spl might have been 65 or 80 db, but who cares for 5.1 balancing? Just tweak the reciever until all the other channels read 75db as well, and you're golden!

Works As Advertised - Fast iP4 fix by Dev. Learnt a lot about decibel levels and their impact on sound and noise from this handy little app.

Update=not working. 1 star until fixed. Was amazing, new update and it is WAYY off, more than +10db, not calibration issue, I use factory default 3gs and it's all screwy now, not consistent, needle jumping up (always up up up) please fix! Was better before!!!! Registers 50 db in totally silent bedroom at night etc

Great app for the basics. Long ago, my brother had a Radio Shack sound meter. We walked around the house to check out how different sounds registered, and enjoyed learning this way. I've had a loud voice for a long time and I'm the first to admit it's better in choirs than in libraries. Nevertheless, at a recent meeting (of 80+ people), someone said I "screamed" an inquiry—and my interest in volume came back a hundred fold. I looked at several of the sound meter apps and this one drew me; I'm glad, as it does exactly what I needed, for only 99 cents. The meter comes at "factory" settings, ready to check your home's sound levels. The three controls are Weight (default A, touch to change to C), Range (default 40, roll the wheel with your fingertip to go as high as 120), and Response (default Fast, touch to change to Slow) are easy for a novice to understand and simple to change. My favorite part is found when you click the "i" in the upper right corner: you get the setup screen where you can calibrate against white or pink noise *and* you get a SPL chart of dB—so you can compare sounds. Caregivers of people—young and old—with inquisitive minds will like this app!

Works Very Well. Latest update fixed issue with iPad crashing.

Absolutely the watermark. Just an excellent all around app for measuring decibels. I use it all the time. Very well designed and good looking. Also still well supported by the developer despite being what? 5 years old. Great job!

Great. I just got an onkyo 308 a/v receiver and it doesn't have a built in mic. Looked at radio shack and a SPL meter was 50 bucks. Downloaded this and it works great. I calibrated my stero, works like a charm. As for the other review, put it in C weighting and it gets the bass volume. Seems to be very accurate... Overall, VERY useful for the price.

Quick & Easy. Earlier this week I and some friends went to hear the Yonder Mountain String Band play at the Ryman Auditorium. While I very much enjoy bluegrass music, the sound was painfully loud. The younger crowd didn't seem to mind the volume, but to a older person like myself, it was very uncomfortable. Luckily, someone had an extra pair of ear plugs and I was able to enjoy the rest of the show in comfort. But….. I still wondered how loud was the music? I pulled out my iPhone 4s and went to the AppStore. I bought "SPL Meter" based entirely on looks. It looked like an spl meter should look. Once downloaded, I found the app easy to use with intuitive controls. Where we were sitting in the center of the balcony, the levels averaged between 97 and 101 db. Pretty loud! The next day I cranked up my stereo at home to the same levels as the night before so I could experience the volume in familiar surroundings. The discomfort was the same! In summary, SPL meter suits my purposes very well because it's handy if I need it. I have no idea how it compares to professional meters.

Great reference, but update issues.. Great for quick FOH reference. Latest update has an issue with screen rotation--I only see the bottom corner of the GUI when I rotate the phone upside down. Please fix this!

Works quite well. I mainly bought this app to test sound levels with my methanol-powered RC helicopter. However, I had occasion to use it at a wedding reception where the band was playing way too loud for the building they were playing in. The meter read around 88dBA at about 20 feet, which I would guess is pretty close to the actual level. The latest update that adds accelerometer support for automatic screen flipping is just icing on the cake.

No gods after upgrade!!!. This ap worked perfectly until the last "upgrade". From what I can see, the only thing this change did was add a commercial for an expensive, external microphone while taking away the ability to adjust the "MAX" signal level. It really is a shame to see them mess up a nice ap try and get you to pay them more money. I used to rate this as a five star ap, now I'm going to delete it if it's not fixed. Very disappointed!

First app I purchased. Iwas told it was must have and it's true. I also recieved great support from Studio 6 when messed up the calibration. Watch the video, read the write up then enjoy.

Handy App. Once I calibrated it it works great. I calibrated to 80dB and then tested it from 60 to 100 and it stayed within a dB the whole way. Even for $5 it would be useful. For $.99 it's a steal!!!

Pretty accurate on a 4 phone. Placed side-by-side with a calibrated Type 2 sound level meter in a noisy room, this app measured within plus or minus 2 dBA on a 4 phone; on a 4s it undermeasured by around 6 dBA. Pretty fun to have with you in your favorite tavern.

Calibration not working. Great app, but on iOS 4 setting the calibration trim level turns the status bar on top red for a moment and then the app exits immediately

Nice app. Very helpful app. I'll use this at church to measure our sound. This app is unique in that it allows up to 120db which is what I need since we hit 108db. Just needs peak hold indicator/ needle. I'm hoping for a small update. I love the advanced features very nice. Nice job on the app overall.

great app. very responsive. i calibrated against an actual meter. the default settings were only off by 2dB.

Works as advertised. Looks exactly like a real SPL meter, I could swear the needle is real. I didn't know the iphone could have an accurate sound meter.

good stuff. Really like this app. I would give it 5 stars, but it's hard to know (believe) that it provides accurate absolute readings of SPL for every little mic in every iPad or iPod. Nonetheless, if you take the absolute values with a grain of salt there is a lot to like here. I used it to ascertain that my summer apartment in France was plagued by ~96dB (peak) worth of eurotrash disco music last night, during the summer solstice parties-on-the-street. Yikes. Not quite at the threshold of physical pain, but definitely that on the psychological level.

Good for basics after tweeks. I bought this app to properly set the levels on my new home theater. By default the readings were way low in comparison with my RadioShack meter. After tweaking the trim extensively it matches up pretty well. However even when calibrated and using c weight and slow response my iPhone 4s with this app was completely incapable of picking up my subwoofer test tone for subwoofer level setting.

Don’t buy here’s why. Don’t purchase this app. The meters are inconsistent. You’ll get a measurement then it changes completely. Not stable.

Analog - Digital Sound Meter. Both Analog & Digital meter. Responsive, easy to read, adjustable to appropriate sound level. Well designed. Useful. It is very handy to have a decibel meter in your pocket via your iPhone. Works in a small room or a large gymnasium. Handy to objectively know the level of sound you are subjected to. Others who see this think, "Excellent. Wow."

Great user support. With this fix, the app runs flawlessly. And it shows me that the company really wants user feedback (through their support page, not negative comments on iTunes...) I e-mailed them yesterday about this bug, and today there's an update. Sure they may have already been working on it, but I like to think they are just that quick :-)

Meter face is quaint.... A perfectly find SPL meter application which I am happy to recommend. I only wish there was a way to display just digits w/o the analog meter face. I understand there's some attachment to the old skool red needle but just having a readout would make this just that much more attractive of an application.

Great job guys!. This is exactly what I was looking for and yours is the first one I bought. I look forward to more apps from you guys.

Nice, but the old look was better. This app has always seemed to work well, but the update with the grey photograph of an actual piece if hardware and the metal toggle switches is a much worse look than before. I implore the developer to go back to something more like the old version, or at least make the images look less like photographs; correct lens distortions, make the toggle switches look like 3D toggle switches instead of overhead photographs of actual switches, etc.

It clearly works and it's only $0.99. I was just about to purchase a handheld db unit when I ran across this interesting looking little app. I had recently purchased a high pressure misting pump, which is louder than I would like, so I wanted to try some ideas I have for reducing the sound, and I wanted/needed a way to measure the results. As I still have a first generation iPad, I had concerns about how well this app would work with it. Turns out it works great. It downloaded easily, and when I fired it up by the pump, it read 70.5 db - the manufacturer's spec sheet said to expect 70 db, so this app seems to be right on the money. This app save me about $30, so I say it's a great deal for $0.99. My only suggestion would be that they provide a bit more info for us novices.

Nice portable SPL meter for 'quick & dirty' checks / adjustments. I really got a kick out of the simulated (and nicely damped) analog meter movement, but beyond that, I calibrated it to my reference gear using a 500Hz-2kHz pink noise signal (C-weighting; slow), and it now tracks that gear nicely to both higher and lower dB levels. Pretty cool.

A must have for any band. Find out your volume level anywhere. Are the monitors too loud? Check the level. Bass player getting too overpowering? Now you can prove it. Just kidding bass players!

Too inconsistent. The meter is too inconsistent compared to other meters. Wouldn’t recommend paying for this.

Works great!! After u calibrate!. I calibrated it to a pro grade spl meter, and found that +16.5 is spot on perfect. This app goes to 120db. For .99 cents, you cant ask for more. Unless u need to messure levels above 120db (which can happen from time to time) this app is totaly worth the buck. * but be sure to calibrate it, otherwise its worthless. Oh... And this is the only spl meter that allows you to point the mic at the source without having an upside down screen. Buy it!

Updated for iOS9 and 6s+. I’m super happy to have this update. I left a lower review previously because it was almost impossible to use on my new big screen. All is right with the world now though. Thanks Andrew.

Motion Picture Sound Engineer. Great App, Works great after calibrating , I would recommend changing the upper red scale from 3 db to 5 db. , this way when you spl a room (85db) your using the upper part of the display....more accurate. I check our rooms constantly with a Radio Shack Analog Spl meter, I think the guys at Dolby Labs would back me up on this one. I think your RTA app is also great, I checked it against my "EAW Smaart" professional sound analyzer.... not to bad. The nice thing is, I can pull this out, put pink noise up in the monitors and do a quick room check, without having to pull out the mics, cables and laptop....all in front of the clients... impressive and very cost effective. Bill Henderson Motion Picture Sound Engineer b_digital@.... ;^}

Price. It Said it was .99 but charged me 6.99

Glitchy. Waste of a dollar. Every time I inadvertently tipped my iPhone4 into landscape mode, and then uprighted it, the program display would get all screwed up--as if I had zoomed in to see just the lower left part of the display. And it would remain that way until I killed the program and restarted. Very annoying. Crashed once as well. Deleted and wrote it off as a loss. However, when it worked it seemed OK. Plain, easy to read meter, quick response, etc. FWIW.

Perfect for my use.... I'm only interested I relative levels (maintaining a consistent monitor level, for example). So this app rocks for me even if it is a number or two off. Great studio tool.

Go-to Decibel Meter. Great app. I've been using it since it came out. I am a weapons instructor for the USMC and I use this mostly to demonstrate the difference in sound levels between canned and uncanned rifles. The GUI is a little dated looking (maybe not optimized for iPhone 6S?) but the functionality is 100%

Great app. I think this is a great app. It does all I expect it to. I don't have any reference point, but I am happy. Easy to use.

It’s good. Pls make meter bigger. It’s good. Pls make meter bigger in landscape mode. Switches and dial can be redesigned. Thanks!

A "Sound" App! :). Working as a sound tech with some friends, a buddy got this app and we compared it to a "real" decibel-meter. It was about 10 dB off, but then a quick calibration brought it in to be accurate. Will prove very helpful as we travel venues and locales. P.S. To the guy who gave it 1-star, I would ask if you don't know what the controls are for, you don't know what this is really used for...why rate the app low for YOUR lack of understanding? 2.7: has a bug. if you flip phone so speakers an micro pointed up, you can only see the bottom corner of the app.

Really Neat!. I have an aftermarket exhaust on my car, and I'm worried that when I'm on the highway for long periods of time that it may be damaging my hearing. This is a really neet app to test that! Very cool interface! And for the price, you can't pass it up!!

TheCoolestAppEver. This app is great for anyone who is looking for this type of meter,. it's especially a great app for the price$ too, "Instead of paying for a SPLmeter at the store for around 40-60$.?!" >> When you can pay 1$.?" This app is very' accurate and does what you need it to do. One thing that I wish this app would have had built into it is, maybe a little 'manual', or maybe a little reference sheet that you could have to look to when you need help,.. OVERALL- "Great app if you know what all of the terms mean, and your familiar with SPL.?! hah"

Tech. Once you have a great tool, you'll find new ways to do your work. As an HVAC tech, I take pride in quiet installations and in fixing other's noisy work. Having a really fine meter on my belt saves time gives me a chance to create sales opportunities in the moment with customers.

Only a couple of minor issues. I find it difficult to adjust (too sensitive) and read (red numbers too small and too dim) the range knob specially in dim lighting. Those items fixed and it's a 5.

Great app. I just need this app for settin up my 5.1, n for $0.99 u can't beat it, not sure if I'll ever get a chance to calibrate it, I wonder if there is much difference in the iphone mics, or are they all bout the same, not really sure what trim is either, but the rest of the controls are pretty self explanatory, and very simple to use definitely happy with tis

A great choice. At first i had tried a different sound level app that had a free demo version and that one was useless and annoying. So I took a chance and purchased this app instead, and have no regrets - it's exactly what I'd hoped for.

Excellent App. Works perfectly. A vast improvement of the Jaycar and Dick Smith hand held SPL units on offer in Australia

Needs a graph. Works well, but could use a time based DB graph, as well as a linear response visual, instead of only logerithmic

Most accurate meter app. I have found this to be very accurate and handy to have the A & C weighting filters. It has nice graphics and I've been in touch with the developer who responded very promptly and is more than happy to listen to suggestions. I have tried a few other sound meter apps but this ones going to stay on my iPhone.

Good.. Does what it says. Knobs can be kinda fiddly, but w/e.

Used to work, now does not. This app used to work but now does not. Not sure if it's my new phone or iOS but it does not work.

Excellent. Excellent at what it does, and appears to be remarkably acurate. Congratulations. The A and C weightings are critical for the readings to mean anything in my work. Would be improved if one could hold the reading and capture it. Proper click stops on the range knob would help select the range slightly faster, but it really isn't a problem. Could use an information page, including some comments about what impact holding the phone in various directions has on the accuracy. Wish list: an app with octave bands, at a price I can pay - I don't use it as an earner, so it still has to be cheap!!

SPL Metre. Great app. Well worth it!

Great app. Works great, easy and accurate,go to their web site for detailed description of meter.

SPL Meter Studio Six Digital failure..... The program downloaded OK but can't get a response out of it (no response on the dial with two different plug in microphones) and no help is offered for this problem anywhere.... at least anywhere it is obvious to me. It's not mentioned in any forums I can find either. Shame really. Looks like a useful idea as I wanted to check the DB level of my car's interior at highway speed.

Not filling screen. The May 5 update seems to have resulted in the meter only filling the bottom left 10% of my ipad2 air screen. Can you correct this new error please.

Works on iPod Touch 1G. Lovely design and function. Appears to work quite well on 1st generation iPod Touch with an external microphone. (XtremeMac Micromemo)

Great work guys. This is the second Studio Six iPhone app I have purchased. I am a professional sound engineer and have been using FFT (the other Studio Six app I purchased) both live and in my studio with truly pro results. Keep up the great work. One suggestion for future updates for both apps would be storing and recall for trim settings so we can quickly recall settings when using padded mics for high SPL measurements.

Not satisfied. Found this to be very inacurate. Was out by 35 db

No min/max readings. I would give it 5 start if they had min / max readings.

Excellent!. Seems like a quality app. So far very happy with it.

Nice.. I found this SPL to be reliable and accurate for setting up my home theatre. Well done.

Crap. This is crap! What a wast of money, I know it's 99 cent . But it's not even close.

I like it!. This app was needed to check out DB levels with dishwashers that proported to be silent at 40DB. So without having to buy expensive additional equipment, I bought this app to check that advertisement. Checking it against several known levels, it appears to be quite accurate, but I'm not positive on that. But checking it against those dishwashers I quickly noticed that some were as advertised, some were not. So, I think it's worth the price, by far. If you need something like this, try this out first.

Great. All features work fine. Compared this to a radioshack spl meter at a gig and the iPhone version was consistently within a dB or better. Very impressed at $.99!!

It's broken. Well at least for the iPad three it's broken. The meter works fine but when I rotate the iPad it screws up the picture, it kinda just zooms in and cuts everything off, the app has to be used in landscape (sideways) not upright. Bugs that need fixed I guess... Otherwise a very useful tool.

Quite good yay. Others seem to have issues but this one seems smack on

Useful, But .... Display flip feature does not work on my iPhone. All-in-all, the full version (SPL) worth the extra $5.00 folks.

Apps crash on ipod 5 iOS 8,02. L'apps crash à l'ouverture de façon aléatoire!

total crap. Totally useless will not show the loud end of sound waste of my money, cannot find instructions.

Excellent. We measured levels on our tug boat with a actual sound meter and this app was reading the same levels.

Does what it says on the tin. Easy to use, accurate, good job.. Easy to use, analogue meter, accurate. Reboot phone after install and microphone calibration to avoid greyed out settings and should work fine. Support was ultra fast, replied on xmas day! Well done, restored my faith in app developers. Wish they were all like this team!

Took a Step Backwards. I'm not sure why you would replace what was a nice looking app on the iPad with this horrible looking UI. I believe that, in design, form follows function, however, that doesn't mean ignoring form altogether.

Looks promising. I purchased this to use as a tool for calibrating my new home theatre setup. It's very easy to use just like using an actual sound meter, and seems to be pretty accurate. I have not compared the accuracy to an actual device yet, but judging by the spl chart that comes with it, it looks very accurate.

Very good. I have professional spl meters around but this app gives me close enough data that I can trust for day to day tasks. Highly recommended!

Meh!. I was hoping this meter would measure bass but it doesnt. Very dissapointed. But for .99 can't really complain. lol

Excellant. Very well done and just what I wanted.

Good Sound Meter. It does what it claims to do, and it does it well...

Works great, needs.... Needs a peak hold. Otherwise it's very nice.

Dosent. Not able to identify my sub-woofer. I'm using iphone 4s for this app & when I play my sub-woofer for configuration this meter sits ideal.

Very accurate SPL meter. A highly accurate, very easy to use meter!

db Meter. The readings are seldom within 10db of an accurate meter.

Works well - worth the $. I like this little app. It's pretty accurate for a phone.

I like it!. Works as expected.

SPL Meter. Great little app. Perfect for my home studio. I use this to track recordings and baseline my monitors and master finals.

6s+ unusable. Excellent until I upgraded to 6s+. Screen is totally jumbled.

Best decible meter on the iPhone. Goes well over 100 Incredibly acurate Intuitive interface Shows typical decible ranges Only 99 cents I've used it setting up; Night club sound Theater sound Sound labs Studios And most importantly: Proving to my landlord that I'm not that loud It's classy, and it's effective. That's my experience.

Nice App. Worth the $1.06 paid for the dB meter. The addition of a peak level hold/reset would make it even better.

great app. Simple and easy to use- just like my trusty Radio Shack I have been using for years but always in my pocket- A must for AV professionals.

Doesn't work. Looks horrible. Doesn't actually do what you think. Keeps bugging you to buy some pro thing. Avoid.

App does not work on 6s Plus. This app use to be great on my 6 but now the screen is all mixed up.

Best SPL Meter I've owned. I have several SPL meters and this APP rocks them all. Key feature, I always have it with me!'

Nice App. Works well tried it at a gig this weekend and was able to tell if I needed ear protectors right away.

Needs max hold!. Great app, very accurate. My only gripe is there isn't a max hold function. With that this would get 5 stars.

Ruined the interface with this update. Not sure why the interface was made so much smaller? Wish I hadn't updated.

Something wrong with this app. Shows 50db all the time, even in total silence. This needs to be fixed

Useless with ipod touch and blue mikey v1. If you try to use this with an ipod touch and a blue mikey, all you get is screeching horrible feedback. No option to turn off playback/mic. Completely and utterly useless.

Not compatible to iOS8. Current version is not compatible to iOS8; graphic is messed up.

Works great. No problems.. This is a good, easy-to-use app for ballpark SPL readings. No complaints.

great. but I dont know how to use it :/

It just works!. Simple but effective!

Solid and nice features. I use this setting up portable PA systems all the time. It's quick and easy.

Was loving it.... Was loving it on iPad, but now that it crashes, I cannot tell if I love it.

Great little meter. Calibrated, it shows a reasonable degree of accuracy. It's all an iPhone app SPL needs to be. The graphics work well. Quite happy with it. Let's call it a good purchase.

Works but very looks horrible. Needs retina display update. This thing looks terrible.

Great App. This app is so fun. I tried to calibrate it to +16.5dB and compared it to an American Recorder SPL-8810 and I think it was closer to +15dB or so using the internal mic. I wanted to ask the the more experienced guys, are you calibrating this with the internal mic? I assume so. One guy says it's 10dB off and another 16.5dB. Is it possible the factory mica in each iPhone could be different? So maybe one review against another isn't that accurate? I don't know, just a suggestion.

It works really well!. I'm glad I got it :)

SPL Not Consistent. Does not give consistent readings. Varies by 10 to 20 dB. Does not alway turn on when app is touched, have to tap fast/slow button to get to start.

The app doesn't scale to screen.... ... with iOS 10.3.2 on iPad. It used to be full screen. What happened? Or is this by design?

Forget It. Tiny image of what appears to a copy of the Radio Shack db meter from the 1970s. Screen does nothing except show current db number you need a magnifying glass to see it. A $.99 joke. Ha! Doesn't Apple really examine any of these apps before allowing people to steal your money? Zero stars.

review. this is ok, is not great. with loud sound it does a little better then with low sound. When using with low sound it way off, i mean 10+ dBs off. But for the price, what can you ask. My base of comparison was an OSHA sound meter

Stopped working.. Downloaded it a few days ago and it worked fine, but now it doesn't. Now it just says 999db and the needle no longer moves. Uninstalled.

App doesn't work on 6s plus. This app doesn't work on 6s plus (the screen is all mixed up). Waste of money.

Great App. It's great to have this type of tool in your pocket.

Not bad for basic home use. The db knob is way to touchy. A three point calibration would be beneficial, as it is not accurate at all. I calibrated it on my iPhone4 at 85db. At 115db it indicates 96 and at 45db it indicates 58. These test were done using a professionally calibrated meter.

difficult to use. I found this difficult to use, and the interface hard to understand. What are all those controls for?

Blurry UI. Since the current update my interface for this app is blurry, very low looking resolution, looked great before this update. Please fix.

Excellent App. Great application for under a buck. Worth buying

It crashes!. After downloading latest update it simply crashes! I liked it before this.

Radio Shack SPL. Side-by-side almost the same readouts from my Radio Shack Meter. Close enough for my home theatre set up.
