Great, but.... I have been using this app for years now and I do love it. I think there’s room for a few vital adjustments tho... one in particular that I would really like to see fixed. When a song is transposed and I want to edit chord changes, as soon as it goes into edit mode, it shows the chords in the original key the song was inputted, rather than the key I’m currently working with. This can be very frustrating in the moment for trying to make quick adjustments as I have to constantly transpose in my head to make edits. It would be nice if the edit mode always stayed in whatever key the current setting is.

Great practice tool, good support.. This tool is a great way to practice, and play the tune in any key. (As a keyboardist, I turn down the keyboard part and practce along from my fake book charts.) I don’t find the editing interface super intuitive, but there is online documentation and their support responds quickly to questions. The jazz list of tunes is pretty comprehensive. I wish there were more vetted rock tunes. (People post their own titles in the forums, but it is “caveat emptor”: some people who post don’t seem to know you can specify a minor key, or have screwy chords. Most recent versions let you preview before you download a song, but older version that runs on older iOS does not. (And that is the helpful tidbit I got from their support staff.) Overall, well worth the investment.

iReal Pro, a real winner!. I’ve been using iReal Pro for a couple of years now on my solo piano jazz gigs. Solo gigging can be a bit boring and tedious at times, especially when the music your playing is requested to be purely background music at corporate/special events. IReal Pro has given me a bit of spice to my music for the average listener, in addition to working with a metronome type tool, which is always good way to improve your time. I love the ease of downloading tunes and / or creating new tune arrangements with this app! The ease of changing the key is convenient on the fly when needed. Setting up play lists for special events is super handy in addition to having quick access to a singer’s song list that may have “out of the ordinary” keys. There are many great reasons to use iReal Pro, but one great plus is the quick response to customer support (in real time) to questions one may have when using this great app. Thank you, iReal Pro!

Made me money. I am a professional pianist and use to carry all my fake books to a gig. Now all I use is this app. All I need to do is remember the melody. Most of the time I have singer so it’s not a problem. One time some people from Brazil came in. They requested songs I never heard of. I asked them, “if I play the chords, can you sing the melody?” They said yes, so I showed them the Brazilian songs that I had downloaded. They sang, loved it and gave me $100 tip. I have many similar stories. There are so many books that users have uploaded. Most of them are checked by the developer. They are very good at “talking with you and helping or suggesting tips. Every professional musician that I know has this app. What’s even better is that I have separate Play Lists for each singer. Even if they all sing the same song, the play list has it in their key with their arrangement.

My favorite practice tool. I have been playing music all my life and iReal is my favorite practice tool! In the past, I used it on gigs to accompany a singer when we didn’t have a chart. I really appreciated the ability to change to any key. Nowadays, I use it as a practice tool, and it’s fantastic! It’s very comparable to Band-in-a-Box but much cheaper— and easier to use on a phone. Now, you just need to add some more musical styles.

IReal Pro. One of the greatest “tools” for gigging and getting vocals and tunes lined up for gigs and performances… great practice tool too … just super just wish I could find a copy for my old iPad replacement… someone stole my old iPad and when I bought a refurbished older one APPLE wouldn’t let me get a copy for it so I’m using my iPhone… but they should make older versions of the apps available 😳

I love it!! What a bargain!. I’ve spent countless hours joyfully singing with this app. I’ve also been able to set keys that fit my voice like a glove. This used to be a very awkward process with a pianist, because finding the perfect key can be very time consuming. Well, it is for me. I can also email a set list and charts for upcoming gigs. This makes life so much easier. It is truly a bargain. I’ve saved hundred of dollars in rehearsal time because of this app. I recommend it to all my singer friends. Thank you!

Practice Makes Progress. Great automatic backing track software similar to Band In A Box without the three hundred dollar price tag. Great features allow control of most musical variables: key, tempo, and backup band instruments. Good sound for practicing along with, possibly good enough for demo’s or live karaoke performance. Wonderful software that has been around a decade or so, with plenty of time to work out any glitches a long time ago. The program provides animated chord charts that follow the beat, but does not provide a melody line in musical notation. I have found sheet music elsewhere online, and the keys usually match the original keys in the written out songs. A perfect practice accompanist for solo instruments. The huge library of tunes online that anyone can download into the software is amazing. The most useful musical app of all time.

Pretty good. The app is fine but may bug out on you. Often it insists that I have the bars arranged incorrectly even when I have them in the proper format, which is irritating when I’m trying to get a certain harmonic rhythm. Aside from this the language the app uses for displaying chords is not very user friendly. I try to understand what info they provide but I’m still yet to understand how I would go about getting certain voicings like augmented 6th and chords without the 5th. But the app is good for getting rough ideas, practicing, and familiarizing yourself with different and common styles of music.

Simply amazing!. I rarely write reviews, but this app has been such an amazing tool for me as I learn jazz guitar, I can’t even imagine practicing without it! From playing along with jazz standards to just solo practice in ii-V-I lines, to the fact that you can change the tempos, keys, rhythm, all on your phone without having to plug any thing anywhere, makes this app one of the best I’ve found for anyone interested in learning to play music. I think the author deserves an away for this!

Convenient and well designed. This product had a bit of a double digit cost to start but with it costing much less than a single music lesson with most music instructors. The benefits it can give over the long term, the cost wasn’t anything compared to the convenience and benefits provided. For any music student that wants to learn pieces easier, I recommend this highly. Learn the changes across many songs, learn even further more songs more quickly.

Awesome app. Bought this app after seeing a few tutorials about using it to export midi data over to iOS Garageband. I tried it and it worked perfectly, allowing me to bring a song over to GB and change out instruments, change keys and tempo to fit my needs. I’ve only started exploring this app but from my initial experiment, I can see this as a SUPERB Garageband companion and to help me improve my lead guitar skills by practicing over song arrangements. Amazing app right here!

The BEST app for a singer and piano player!. I was turned onto this app back in 2012. I was just learning how to hone in my jazz playing skills and began singing with a group. This app has taught me so much not only about music theory, but how to improvise and improve my own singing skills. This app is on every single one of my computer devices and I absolutely love it! I couldn’t have gotten as far as I did without it. 👏🏼 BRAVO BRAVO iReal Pro! 👏🏼

Beware.... This app is not only expensive offering what similar apps offer BUT they also to squeeze more money out of you wherever possible. Bought this app with the intention of being able to use it on my Mac as well as my phone. If you buy it on ios it will only work there, if you buy on mac it will only work there. You will have to spend another $20 to get it on that other devise. The fact that this app is this much at its base and you cant use it on other devices is a big disappointment not to mention greedy. Furthermore, the layout of the app is confusing and designed poorly. You will waste lots of time navigating in and out of the Byzantine corridors of this app to find what you really want actually costs another 5 bucks...

A perfect app. I’ve used this app forever. Like most of my adult life, 10+years. I used to play upright bass professionally. This app has got me through hundreds of pick up gigs- you know the type jazz musicians. All you hear is “Hey come play”, and when you show up to the gig they just start calling tunes from 100 years ago like you should have it in your blood. This app let me keep up and sound great with that kind of gig. A quick download and you have changes to a ton of standards at your disposal. Only way this could be better is if it had the melody loaded in. For practice it’s great. The rhythm section can be pretty stale but for working your way through changes at various speeds, 😘👌🏼(chefs kiss). You can alter changes easily. And mixing out instruments is cool, I can practice walking lines. I use it even when writing songs. It’s pretty easy to make a lead sheet off these, including exporting to pdfs in case you need to pass to a friend. It’s great to have a band at your disposal to hear your parts too. There are some good grooves as well. Honestly the best money I’ve spent on an app as a jazz musician, maybe on any music tech stuff. Thanks guys for all the help over the years!

Incredible App, Some downfalls. This app is incredible. Not only am I able to find most songs from the real book and quickly dose load them, if the charts are wrong I can edit the chords or timing or repeats, key or tempo as needed. Not only that, when i couldn't find a song on the forums, I could create the chart as I needed it for any song. Only downfall is that I paid for the app on my mac too, and I can't seem to login on the iphone to transfer my songs to my laptop. Incredible and needed for any jazz musician or genre beyond. In a band you can practice or share these charts so everyone knows how their solo will sound over the music. Great app. When I found I could create charts I was in disbelief. Comping style sounds great between bossa and up tempo or any other style

Excellent app. The Realbook cost about $45 when I first bought it in 1980. The IReal is very inexpensive for what it gives you. The developers covered all the items to make it versatile and user friendly. Forums and customer support are top notch. Don’t think about buying it- buy it. I’d pay $100 for this app if it cost that much.

PLEASE ADD THIS TO THE APP. I love this app and have been using it for years and it’s only gotten better and better. Best money I’ve ever spent. The only thing I have wanted for a long time but have yet to see is a loop feature. I’ve always wanted to loop certain sections of a tune to practice specific changes and I’ve had to go and record myself somewhere that I can loop it. It’s just a bit of a hassle and I’d love to be able to loop however many specific bars to practice hard spots with ease. Again, I love the app and everything you all have done with it over the years so please continue doing what you’re doing and thank you so much!

Please help!. I wanted to use this app for my iphone, but I accidently bought it on my Ipad, since every app I buy on either devices it allows me to open them on both devices since I’m using the same account, is there anyway I can change the app from the Ipad to the Iphone? It really doesn’t work for me on the Ipad. Sorry for bad english.

Great app; active community. This has made my practicing so much more enjoyable that I actually miss it if my day is too busy. Plus there are so many charts available in the forum, that I've only had to make ones for pretty obscure tunes. I only wish there was more flexibility in charting. As it is, you either have normal size type or squishy. Having even two levels of condensed type would get it another star.

A great app with one flaw.. This is an essential app for students and professional musicians. And not only allows you to play nearly any tune in different styles and tempos and keys, but it is also handy for writing simple chord charts. The one real problem it’s with the chart writing function. It is not possible in this program to indicate anticipated chords, which is essential in notating popular music. If this function were improved I would give the app five stars. Another welcome improvement would be the addition of more “styles”, for which many users would gladly pay extra.

Don’t like the “stereo piano” in this edition.. Please bring back the piano that you had before this update. The new “stereo piano” sounds distant and not as good. I will re-rate this if you can give us the option to use either piano at the least. I also note that some of the chords or inversions don’t sound quite right sometimes. Perhaps this can be looked into as well? Otherwise, I really enjoy the program. Thank you for the response. Primarily, I’m not really happy with the “embellishment” feature. It seems to over embellish the jazz chords every single time the chord is played, if it was more randomized and had slightly better voice leading I think it would be a nice addition. Perhaps you could make it a sliding scale instead of “on” or “off”. Maybe it’s asking too much. The program is excellent regardless. I will re-rate to a 5 as I think it’s a valuable program for practicing songs. Thanks for listening.

Performance tracks too!. I’ve used this app since the early versions and it always surprises me. First off it let’s me create simple, readable chord charts and share them effortlessly. The backing instruments give you flexibility to easily practice and rehearse. While most of my use of this app is as a practice or teaching tool - I also use it to create basic backing tracks for live performance. I play lap steel - so all I really need is a bass line, and a simple rhythm instrument to back me up as I play the melodies. Once I get a chart working live - if I want better quality for a show etc. I’ll do a more pro track in my DAW with real instruments. But for many songs, doing simple gigs - this app works fine. The endings are not great, and the bass lines get a bit boring - but overall it works ok. If you construct a good chart with proper repeats, and pick a good style for the song etc. - the tracks work really well. I like the Rhodes piano, vibes and bass along with the Jazz styles. Love being able to export .pdf to share charts with the band.

Awesome on so many levels. I’ve been using this for many years through many upgraded versions. I just keeps getting better! Especially when I cannot jam with my fellow jazz musicians, this app keeps me practicing and improvising so I can feel comfortable when our jazz jam gets together. I play tenor sax as my main instrument, but also play guitar and piano. I absolutely love the chord scale diagrams! And the various styles, plus the full control of the beat speed. I highly recommend this full featured app!

Great app especially for transposers. IReal Pro is probably the iPhone/iPad app I use more than any other. As a music practice tool, it’s just fantastic. Creating playlists, setting different tempos, changing key signatures — all very easily done. I’m a saxophone player, and I practice every day, often switching horns in the middle of practice. So transposing for different instruments (e.g. Bb to Eb) is pretty important; this app makes it easy. I’ve been a Band in a Box user for many years, but iReal Pro is a much easier product to use.

One Of The Best Apps I Own. This is, hands down, one of the best apps that I own. I have been playing guitar on and off for years, having much difficulty with swallowing. This app is very easy to use and has a ton of bells and whistle‘s. You can easily create a song and then easily transpose it or change the tempo with a couple of simple tabs. It allows me to practice my guitar ring in multiple keys with ease. There are a ton of different styles as well as time signatures that really add to the functionality of this app. Additionally, it seamlessly syncs with my iPhone and my iPad, so I can create a song on one device and it will easily just be there on my other device when I open it up. Fantastic job. Keep up the great work!

Great app.. It has been invaluable for my practice. Nothing negative to say; I’ll come back and give it 5 stars when they add the ability to transpose songs to every key, including enharmonic keys. As of right now, I have to edit tracks manually if I want to be able to practice them in both sharp and flat keys. If I want to play songs written in Ab in a sharp key, such as C#, I have to rewrite any chords that have flats and make them sharps—and I have to do it for every sharp key. Honestly though, it’s an awesome app.

Great App. It is a great app for sure, practice tool. I suggest to allow to write some rhythm notation very necessary for intros, for example: sometimes you have to play songs you have never played right on the spot, the rhythmic notation will do the miracle. My last suggestion all my students practice with this software but there is room to improve, we need that ireal be compatible with realbooks, again; "a song request we haven't heard", we need to playthe melody. Guys due respect, this is the 21th century and probably the last one. We need you to search for better software sound and more possibilities for the working musicians. THANK YOU SO MUCH. The versatility of iReal Pro. There’s no question that there are similar products on the market but the versatility of iReal Pro allows the practitioner of music or the producer the ability to not only create but continue to grow as a technician. I personally have found the app useful in production not being a keyboardist by training. Additionally, it is a great and useful tool to practice new material or theory by soloing over changes or melody as well as having a set list available to distribute to musicians in a band. and of all of the things listed what has not been mentioned is having this in your back pocket when impromptu performing when you don’t know a song you have a roadmap at your fingertips which is incredibly useful and I’ve used dozens of times whether it’s on a professional gig or just sitting in when I did not know the tune. The only drawback to this wonderful app is that it only allows rhythms on the one on the downbeat and nothing on the upbeat. There would be so much more possibility if you could have portal rhythmic phrasing on eighth notes or 16th notes instead of just on quarter notes. This is something that I as well as others perhaps have suggested however for whatever reason it is still not available. Other than that one area it’s an amazing product for the price and I find it highly useful.

To IRealPro: I love you. This has become an instrumental tool to use both in the practice room and on gigs. Practicing over solo changes helped me master songs like Giant Steps and Donna Lee and has changed the way I play my horn. On gigs, it’s perfect to check the chord changes and your song set list that way you’re never off from The rhythm section in a solo. Absolutely brilliant!

Waited to Review. I waited to review this app to see how I’d like it and it’s functions. As a beginning musician trying to learn guitar in later life and never having learned any music/instruments you I’m not sure you will find a better tool. Takes a little time to learn how to use the app effectively, but I have found the app to be extremely flexible and helpful. Completely worth the money.

Why not make it the best?. I love this app. It can use a few more features to put it as a very versatile tool. Tempo change on selected measures, style changes on selected measures, complete stop(no overtone) would make this the most used in practice session and gig. Why not add these simple functions. If anything the latest version has a more confusing interface.

Can’t practice without iRealPro. I’m 4 years into committed practice of jazz bass guitar, and I truly don’t see how I could pursue this path without my iReal Pro. My daily practice routines ~ scale and arp cycles to chord sequences to songs ~ are fully dependent on practice tracks. The app has so many settings, I can’t really see what couldn’t be practiced with it. Ok there’s probably a way for an adult non-genius with a good teacher and method to learn to play without iRealPro, but I can’t think what it is.

iReal Pro is totally awesome. As a rhythm section player and music teacher, I can say without hesitation that iReal Pro has improved my playing and flexibility. The ability to have the changes to any tune, in any key, instantly, eliminated the need to carry around multiple real books to play casual gigs. The ability to have a play along track for any chart is a game changer in that it allows better practice and to allows one to fuse theory with improvisation. The search function allows access to most common tunes even brand new ones (not always totally correct, but almost always better than nothing). If all else fails, iReal allows us to easily and intuitively make our own charts and share any chart or playlist right there on the gig (as long as there a cell signal) or via email or text beforehand. All this for half the price of a single real book. Best music tool ever.

6 out of 5 Stars. Have to admit I’ve had the app for a few years, just diving into it but it is terrific. I’ve played in various groups over the years but starting a jazz team with a singer and me on piano. Nice to have a variety of back up musicians for live shows. It is indeed terrific for practice and learning new charts but the back up music sounds great through a sound system. Great performance and great value.

Awesome Tool. Invaluable learning aid! I thought this was great from the beginning. Now? It just keeps getting better and better. The developers are really committed to making this the beat thing to happen since sliced bread. So worth the small price put out. With a forum that offers up chord changes to each song you are looking for, a real community effort, accessible.

Great App. Upgrade tech needs a fix.. This app essential to my work as a musician. I do not upgrade the app because I lose all my playlists when I upgrade the app. The companies fix for this “is download your Play lists and re-enter them into the app after you’ve done the upgrade. This should be fixed. If you do not do it correctly you have to rebuild all your playlists. If you are somewhat technically challenged as I am it’s gonna be a problem.

Fantastic for Jazz bad for Pop. This app is incredible. I play Jazz so this is perfect for having chord charts, making practice exercises, and a whole lot more! I feel like the add on for pop and blues is pointless though, other then having a chord chart all the tunes need a melody to even sound close to the original music. I feel like working with an actual metronome would be more useful to a beginner player. An aspiring Jazz player NEEDS this app but two chord chores and weekend players might want to look elsewhere on ultimate guitar tabs or something.

Ten Star App!. I've been using iReal Pro since the beginning... and it keeps getting better and better! Besides being a great practice aid for my trumpet, it has helped me understand song form, and how to write it. Then it helped me learn the bass guitar, and now I'm able to teach basic guitar and piano to young students. In a pinch, it is a great backup band for live performance! I recommend this app, by name, to every musician I encounter, and am proud to give it the highest rating available! My only complaint is that I can't rate it higher, so that people can see what an exceptional app it is.

No 12/8 blues?. 5 stars for entire app however I purchased the blues set and liked what was there except…the slow blues had the lamest non slow blues bass lines. Seriously? Get someone who knows about the blues to program. If it was an off the shelf product I would want a refund. Hopefully they fix this. 0 stars

Devs: why did you change the keyboard layout?. I am begging you guys, please let us have the old keyboard layout back. Or at least an option to have it. I had mastered a workflow to quickly make charts on the fly. The most frustrating part is having to hit two buttons to get the "repeat last measure" symbol. Still rating high because I love the app. But please guys, why fix what wasn't broken

Newest update. Love the App. My husband and a bunch of other “seniors” formed a oldies rock and roll band. My husband downloaded the his app and used their music plus added some of his old.. they updated it he app and his old, senior, iPad could not use the updated version. He only had a week to go before their first big paying job!! I contacted IReel Pro and within hours Warren contacted us and told my husband how to log back on with the new version. Everything worked and he was able to play his gig with his music. Thank you Warren!!!

The ultimate backing track creator and more. What an amazing app! I can easily write (or use prewritten) chord progressions to create backing tracks that sound great and are excellent to jam with. Changing styles, tempos, and key signature is also extremely easy. The only thing missing from this app is an, “infinite repeat” function so I can jam for hours in end without pressing start when the repeats eventually come to an end. Right now repeats are limited to 30 times.

More than you are. This is my 2nd review. Prior to this, I rated iRealpro 5 stars; now I like to change that rating to 5.5 to 6 stars. I love all that is possible with iReal. However, when an issue came up I submitted the problem in the evening thinking the response would get to me within a day or two. Instead, when morning arrived upon waking up, there it was; the answer to my question. Many thanks to the iReal crew.

Great as is. Encourage further development.. I’m a jazz snob. This app is perfect for me since I am learning jazz piano. It is also very good for composing and even recording a tune with other instruments, PROVIDED, one uses the midi out file transfer. The internal sounds are okay for learning but not good enough to record with. That’s okay because with a midi file player and multi layered sample based apps one can can obtain a very decent recording. I encourage the developer to consider further enhancements such as more comping styles, chord inversions, additional drum fills and practice tunes " in the style of (artist)". BTW, I have all the Session Band Jazz apps and this app has them beat. Great job!

Just one thing to say.... I love this app and use it all the time for both playing along with music or writing music. My only problem is that this app doesn't have the ability to change the style mid-song. Therefore, songs like A Night in Tunisia, in which the groove changes from Latin to Swing and back, is left Latin throughout. Once that minor issue is fixed, this app will be perfect!

My most used app!. This app does just about everything for me. It's a great practice tool, with ever more styles to play against. And I also use it as my gig book. Just bought the new Blues style pack and ran into problems installing. The support was amazingly fast and diligent. In the process I learned the program has features like looping and start from any measure. Also copy and paste. If they ever develop a way to incorporate melody?....in the meantime I will still use this app more than any other of the myriad of music apps I have.

One of the greatest practice coaches. I have been using this app for several years now. It’s useful for my drum practice, bass practice, vocal practice, songwriting. How one chooses to use this as a practice tool: the sky’s the limit! The online community is amazing. I can have friends come over and I mute their particular instrument along with mine.I am learning bass as my second instrument and this program is invaluable. I can slow down anything to a manageable Tempo so I can explore the chords deeper. I can pick up even esoteric jazz and pop songs with the incredible online community. I do not need to be connected to the Internet to play downloadable songs with this software. I use it to also practice vocal exercises. It also exports charts to PDF which is fantastic if I want to play or share a chart with the actual song audio. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made from my iPhone and iPad. They say Time magazine voted this One of the 50 best inventions of 2010. I say it’s still one of the 50 best inventions for musicians and it’s 2018. Thank you developers!

Indespendible !!!!!. Man, I’ve never been particularly adept at the tech side of music although we all strive to improve. I admit it, as a composer/player I tend to be impatient! This app serves the purpose of the composer SO WELL. Have a melody and chord changes in my head! Bap! I lay it down, play with grooves, tempos, new harms. and bring the composition to fruition in know time flat! As a pianist, I merely deck the onboard cat and have the most AMAZING tool to craft a composition! Also, by running it around through all keys, newer added ideas seam to materialize! And although I know my theory, writing a lead sheet would deflate my immediate artistic enthusiasm! Hats Off to iRealPro! It’s a tool for the intermediate to the most advanced jazz musician. And what a practice aid! I insist any students I may take get it immediately!! It’s as valuable as the Real Book was in Boston almost 60 years ago, only 10 times more useful!!! Joe Delaney

Guitar practice is so easy with this app!. This app has definitely helped me become a better jazz improviser. Most of the jazz songs are already available through the app and inputting a song is incredibly easy. I have a backup band that can play a song in any key, in a variety of styles. And beginners can access chords to learn the songs. I recently had a question about the app and I received a friendly answer within minutes through email support. I like not having to pay a monthly fee, but I have gladly paid for the extra styles just to support it. This is the one app I use daily. I highly recommend it.

Brilliant!. As I said, brilliant!

Most useful app I’ve ever found. I use iRealPro on practically a daily basis. Mostly, it’s for daily practice, but also for being able to look up songs I’m interested in learning, or practicing my analysis skills. Whilst this will never replace playing with a live band, iRealPro is the next best thing. I’ve seen iRealPro grow and improve over the last few years, particularly in the styles and backing track generation. The developers are responsive to beta feedback and user suggestions. Things I’m hoping to see in future versions are more controls over dynamics, and adding text notes to tunes. But these are really additions to an already very strong app.

Fantastic app. Really great app, helped my playing a lot. It would be 5 stars if you would allow modern jazz extensions like 'Bsusb9' or 'c^7+5'. You need these extensions for musicians to experiment freely with the changes on the app. Great work!

Superb!. What a fantastic idea. One of those apps that is genuinely useful and not just gimicky! How cool to know that anywhere you go you have a huge arsenal of song chord changes right in your pocket! Great quality app, simple and effective.

Few add on suggestions. Amazing app the most useful thing I have on my iPod. Would be good if you could copy and paste when entering in chords. Ragtime for the jazz styles pack would be good.

Amazing!. This is a really good practice app. There is nothing stopping you from gigging with it. I could not believe the value: $20! It doesn't have all the features of BIAB but what it does is provide an accompaniment for a lot of tunes - and you can write your own. The next step, if you want really high quality, would be to load each track into an editing program and tweet them there. I haven't figured out how to do this yet but there is a fairly comprehensive tutorial with the app so it shouldn't be too hard. Spend the $20: it's worth it.

Great app - please add Apple Pencil support. Love this app. It would be great if I could use my Apple Pencil to draw in the chords, bar lines, etc when creating a new song

None other like it. iReal Pro is one of its kind, the program works so smoothly and the updates it has received over the last few months have shown their ability to listen to the consumer and streamline an already incredible application. A necessity for any serious musician.

Fondles me. This app is honestly the only thing that got me through the HSC, it's soft and tender hands comforted me when I couldn't play my Music piece the day it was due.

This app would be perfect with iCloud sync. An amazing practise and teaching tool. If only the charts I made on my laptop could sync to my phone and iPad so I am never without a chart. Seems like an easy thing to implement, pls add

ireal b. this is an incredible app, the price is excellent, I could not be happier. I have the piano chords plug also, there are a variety of chord choices and I can learn those very easily when playing on piano, when I'm not playing the piano i can have the chart playing so that I can sing along. It has helped me get my ear around harmony a lot faster than if i was working alone, its like my own personal muso/band who plays for me I LOVE this app could write an essay on how good it is.

Fantastic. Always have loved the app, and the new update is just amazing with all the new styles especially. Must have for musicians practising improvisation, but also handy for exploring comping patterns and walking bass lines etc

Disgusted. I purchased this app in good faith. Having the real book on hand at a reasonable price was an AA+. This compromise is neither what I purchased nor something I require. That I wasn't offered a refund when the policy changed has made me angry and disgusted. Apple should provide a refund offer all those that orginally purchased the app and then those that choose this compromise can purchase it should they choose to do so! A less than happy customer!

Just what I was looking for. This app is amazing. All good songs, easy layout, can change chord format if needed, easy to transpose, whole song fits on one page with good sized chords, can create own charts, can share charts. Would be perfect with lyrics but if you know your songs well enough then it's not a problem. On my old phone I'd store scanned copies of charts but they were hard to read. Was going to do it on iPhone, then found this app. Totally worth the money; realbooks are normally $80 at least. This equates to several.

Almost perfect. Would love an easier way to flip between guitar chord diagrams. As far as I’ve found the only way is to long press on each chord one at a time, then exit that function and long press the next one. But otherwise it’s pretty perfect.

Seaman. Excellent app that provides me backing tracks when I need to perform as a one man band. I know that you have a copyright issue with this ... But please please please please please make it so that we can put the melody in the songs ... It will help us a lot to remember the songs and also give us the idea of the actual song instead of just the accompaniment. Thank you for this great app

Very cool update. I was looking for a band in a box type app, now with the update this is it. So cool, considering the library of included songs. Has gone from a great resource to a very handy practice tool. Look frwd to some extra styles. The only thing i could wish for would be to be able to select a part of a song to play/loop for practicing those certain passages. (oh and maybe access to the melodies) New update.. Be able to practice those django licks now cool

Great app - two small suggestions. Fantastic selection of real book lead sheets, and easy to use. Transpose function is quick and accurate (based on my testing), and generally it's a really well designed and useful app for musicians and music students. One suggestion relates to the jpg images of lead sheets. It would be really useful if these were in a more flexible format for printing. I'd like the option of printing on A4 sized paper (for US users this is about the same as Letter size). But there's lots of pixilation at this size - not pretty. Any chance of a choice between "high" and "low" res images, or even an editable format of some kind? Also, is it possible to add the option of creating lead sheets using roman numerals rather than note names (e.g. #IVm7b5 instead of F#m7b5 in the key of C)? If so, it would be good to be able to reset the I chord manually if needed (e.g. when the bridge is almost all in a different key). This would be a really useful tool for teaching functional harmony. Great work so far, though - thanks for a cool app!

AWESOME APP!. This app is amazing. It's helped me so much with just practice and gigs as we'll it would be really cool if they could incorporate a link to your own devices so if you change anything for example on your phone then it will also change in the app on your iPad but all an all this app IS AWESOME!!!

Five stars great app. Love this app, I use it all the time, great practise application, can’t heap enough praise. Also, marvellous for writing your own chord charts and arrangements. Well done, iReal Pro, you’re the best. Only suggestion is the rock backing needs improving. However, the jazz and Latin is grrrreat.

True Excellence. It's not often that an app, especially a music writing app, is so easy and ergonomic to use! Their forums are a fantastic resource, full of songs and tips! Highly recommend it for any musicians and composers out there.

Printing from iPad still a problem. Great app except when trying to print from iPad. Charts invariably print in landscape mode when you really want them in portrait orientation.

Love your work!. I love this app, particularly the new play feature. Being a music teacher, it's so handy to be able to let students hear how the progressions go in a variety of styles without having to learn them first! The edit and create features are great too - I wish my students all had iPods! .. Is there any way to reduce text size so that lyrics can be typed in to fit within the bars? I know it's small on my screen but I like emailing my edited charts to my laptop and printing them. Thanks for your continued work on this app!

Sensational!!. This is everything I've been searching for. As a musician new to jazz music, this is perfect! Transposable keys, just great to get the ball rolling and have my own band already in the app to work t my own pace! Love it.

Soooo useful!. Haven’t had this app for long but already am enjoying how very useful it is. For practice or learning new tunes it is a real help. Many many well known and some not so well known songs are available from the lists and a blog of helpful users contribute frequently. If you don’t find the one you’re looking for you can send out a request and another user may have what you need. Editing is pretty easy. It didn’t take me long to get my own tunes in and get practicing. Well done to the designers.

iRealbook. I love it - very well set out - and being able to transpose is amazing! I don't know if anyone else has discovered this but if you need to print out a chart - take a screen shot of the page (sleep and home buttons) then it will appear in your photos - now you can email it to yourself - put it into Word - resize and print. Added Aug 1 - with version 2.2 you don't need these steps as there is now an email tab. Not only a great app but excellent customer support from Massimo! Tony Naylor

Chord progression templates for hundreds of jazz standards. Worth the price if you want chord progression templates for a large number of classic jazz standards (900). For a few songs I wasn't convinced by a particular chord choice but the app allowed me to edit the default chords. The play option is great. The default rhythmic style is fine but I downloaded the other jazz and latin rhythm options for variety (additional charges). Many users will want an option to display lyrics and play the actual melody. The app description explains that these are not included because they are protected by "copyright" so only chords are included. Ultimately, it might be worth creating a paid option to get the lyrics and hear the melodies, with copyright charges built into the download charge. At any rate, a fantastic app.

Incredible. This new update has made an already fantastic and useful app even better!

Edit or write your own backing tracks. I’ve been using iReal Pro for years. Tempo, key, number of repeats, music style - all can be tweaked, plus add your own chords or whole songs. I’d like it connect to a PC so as to be able to copy and paste, transpose with smoother editing software. The “band” sound gets boring, but they will work as long as you do!

Live Charts. As an upright bass player I play with many bands, at venues and festivals. This app is really handy for quick chord charts and either as a live chart reading tool or as a refresher. You can change key easily and create your own charts on the fly. I use it on my iphone with a magnet attached to the upper bout of my bass. Highly recommend.

Real customer support ! Amazing!. I’m still learning how to use the app so I won’t make comment yet on that except so far, fantastic. There are a few things I have discovered it doesn’t do but... there is a suggestion box for what users want AND the developers listen and take this as an opportunity to improve. If you have ANY questions about anything, the support guys write back to you within 24hours with in depth answers where possible. They are constructive and helpful. If they can’t do it, they point you in a direction, give links to other sites, about where to find answers. Real customer service. Great job guys. Much appreciated..

Blue add on not worth it. A few backing tracks is all you get for $5

Brilliant. This app is amazing. It gives me instant access to hundreds of jazz standards and is an amazing improvising tool. I do not understand how someone can feel ripped of after buying close to 900 chord charts and 11 very realistic playback style for 20 bucks. 'Real' real books (fake books) cost much more, don't have as many songs and cannot play the charts back to you. The ability to make you own charts quickly and easily is the icing on the cake. As a gigging musician I'm very grateful for this highly useful app.

Chord entry… too hard basket!. The playback features are great but chord entry and the lack of any visual beat grid or overlay makes entering chords a hit and miss affair and very frustrating!!! You have to guess how many times to press the next button before adding h to r next chord or it can’t play the chord. It’s ridiculously hard to get it right!

Brilliant app... just get it!. I've been using iRealPro for years now & I've recommend it to every musician or student I come across. Simple to learn with great tutorials. Very easy & fast to chart a song & be up & practicing with the band in minutes! The forum has thousands of free tunes charted, that download super fast as they are essentially text files. You can edit them or notate your own charts, then loop a section for rehearsing difficult passages & more! With the practice mode, you can set the repeats to change either the tempo or a key change at each repeat, choose both for a real challenge.

Amazing App. Great to practice with..a rhythm section rather than a metronome and they never drag. Easy to find chord charts for free or make your own. Good chord changes.

Add An Open Swing Feel Option. Open 1/8 playback is cool, you should add an open swing one.

Surprisingly useful!. Simple. Well designed, can be used as a replacement for a fakebook, plus lots of flexibility for practicing with tempos and keys. Sounds and performances are a touch stiff, but given what it does for what it costs...wow. When I was first learning to play 30 years ago, this would have been nothing short of a miracle. All it needs is an option to add melodies. (Edit) No worries. I do understand the copyright issue. I was more thinking of some kind of record / text feature that would allow users to add melodies and lyrics. I also realize that would be a significant restructuring of the application.

My improv skills are improving!. This app has been an absolute godsend for practicing jazz improv for my university audition that I have coming up. My one suggestion would be to add a note-taking feature so that I can write ideas down.

Killer app for jazz students. The addition of the play-along rhythm section and the latin styles make this a MUST HAVE app for jazz musicians, especially students who are learning to improvise. Compared to buying Band-In-A-Box, this is absolutely dirt-cheap and in many ways more useable. I love it!

I love this app but…. Can you add a feature that when there is an error with open ended repeats or bar lines, that is becomes highlighted to make it easier to fix the problem? Sometimes, it’s not visually clear what the problem is and it’s something that frustrates me.

Best app for practicing & backing tracks. Becomes almost impossible to do without once you get familiar with its features and editing. Very responsive technical support as well. Backing tracks allow you to perform solo with accompaniment.

Great app. I just wish I didn’t have to buy it twice for the Mac Version... why is Mac Version more expensive for same functionality?

Chords don’t play properly as written. In one measure a chord will play as a block chord. And in the next measure that same chord may play as an inversion or arpeggio or as an inversion. So from a learning standpoint it’s hard to determine if you’re getting it right. Also, the piano diagram doesn’t show the chord as played. Lots here need to be either fixed or give user more controls. UPDATE: I received a reply but it was clear that the responder didn’t understand my comments and certainly did not address them. My review still stands.

Just awesome. Easy to setup and use in just minutes. Great sounding accompaniment. Wish there were more styles and instruments though. But I am not complaining. A great program overall.

irealb. I never intended to update the Irealbook so I could keep all the songs I needed to learn but I accidentally did. I tried to stop it by turning off wifi, then the power and now it's gone. When I try to get the new lame version, the app store says it's installed, but it's gone. I never wanted the irealb version, but now I don't have either! ps-I lost a styles pack I bought as well. not happy and out money.

A little lacking. I really want to like this app. For the most part it is good, but I find the lack of versatility in the styles disappointing. They’re like poorly done, cookie cutter arrangements. This is the reason why I end up just not using this app. It feels incomplete. I’d like to be able to mix and match style components.

Keeps skipping.. I would give this 5 stars if it didn’t skip 1 beat while playing. It throws off the entire piece and sounds bad. Fix it!!

Amazing App. Does everything you'd want it to do. Legendary for learning comping/melody/improvisation for any tune. Pop, blues, reggae all included too if you look hard enough. Sweet that you can hear you own sing with a who band.

An amazing tool!. This is a fantastic app. I use it for myself as a practice aid but I also use it as a teaching tool in my high school jazz band classes. The export as audio tool is especially useful to get quality rhythm section recordings into students' hands quickly and easily. The cost is worth every penny but a little too pricey to demand all of my students to purchase. I also really appreciate how adaptable iReal Pro is when editing charts. It's intuitive and easy to learn. This is in my top 5 must-have apps list!

Please enable ability to scrub along the backing tracks. I have to start from the top of the chart every time I want to work on something that was just played. Please enable the ability to start the track from anywhere in song. I will definitely give five stars if this is improved.

Best $7.99 you'll ever spend. This app was already amazing before and now with 3.0 it has made it into a really fun practicing tool for learning songs. The sounds are actually pretty decent, as good as the last version of Band in a Box I owned (few years back mind you). Inspiring!

Lacking many chords and grooves/customizability.. So many chords that seem obvious, like min11b5, sus2, minMaj13, and many more are non-existent. Also many songs have a groove change in the middle of the form or after an intro; Why they have not added this customization option yet baffles me. Another thing is the amount of editing space is extremely limiting in arrangements and you cannot write out long forms for absolutely no logical reason. Why??? Also more open grooves are lacking (for example straight ECM, or less overt latin grooves). If Ireal Devs manage to fix even two of these problems then I will change my rating to reflect the improvement of their app, but until then, I would recommend using another backing track app.

iReal observations. It will be super sick when iReal includes melodies. Starting a chart from scratch also is a bit cumbersome. Also, once you’ve transposed a tune, and then you want to edit it, it will revert to the key it was in before, so that too is a bit cumbersome. Otherwise, thumbs up.

Fine app but.... Don't get too reliant on this tool, your (a) band won't play/sound the same. iReal may cause a false sense of confidence

Why no melodies?. Because THE REAL Real Book, sold by Hal Leonard, contains copywritten material. Most of the material is held under publishing, with only a few very that have fallen into the public domain due to their age. So, it's not an issue with this developer :)

Easy to use and customizable. Liking the app so far. Can you add the ability to cast through Google or Apple TV cast? It would be awesome to use home speakers and screens.

i REAL Book. This app is nothing short of amazing!!! I had it on my Ipod for a while and I was using it to lookup changes - then the other day I noticed the musical note at the bottom of the page and touched it and was TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY - the screen came up and I touched play -It was playing the changes with piano,drums and bass- WOWOW !!! I recommend this app 150% - a great one to help you learn new tunes with out getting the whole group together. You can customize the tunes or put in one of your own !! This is a really powerful package -- BUY IT NOW - before anyone decides to raise the price!! There are two JAZZ style packages for the player, I bought both and I am VERY IMPRESSED !!! SOO Much POWER IN a smaller package!!! THIS has become the app I use the most --

Phenomenal app. The timbres, chord changes, and styles are remarkably good on this app. You can also export your chart to Cubasis as well in order to use the iRealPro tracks as the foundation for more elaborate arrangements, including adding real-time instrumental and vocal parts through a mic. IRealPro Review. I use this app all the time, as a guide when I’m in a jam session and to practice. I love being able tho build flexibility by playing a song in every key, practicing both solo parts and rhythm. I also create charts with particular arrangements so that band members or someone sitting in with the band can practice to the same chart, tempo and rhythm. I have also used an IReal Pro chart as a backing track in a live performance if I am singing and playing flute. I did find it difficult initially to learn how to set up a chart or add pieces to an existing chart, but once I learned that, it’s fairly easy.

Great App. Been using this app for a couple of years both for practice and playing out. I play in a duo that plays trad swing and ballads and a few newer tunes. For the price, this app can’t be beat!

An excellent practice tool. This app is a great value. It is perfect for learning 100s of tunes, from jazz to blues to rock (admittedly, more jazz than other genres), offering lots of controls from tempo changes to different grooves, along with a great chord library. Well worth the cost.

Poor customer service. I wrote to the support team more than a week ago and still no response from them. Apparently support services are an issue here. You would think by sending an email they would get back to you after 7 days. For now I’ll give 3 stars until the matter is resolved.

I Real Pro. What a great program. I am a journey jazz musician. Work and life jammed me up for the past year. Back in the shed and using the program again and man has it improved. Not only do I get the changes every time they change I get a list of note changes. That is so sweet! Thanks for taking care of the little guy.

Ireal Pro - If you don’t have it, you NEED it.. If you are a musician at any level, this is the app for you! Imagine being able to practice any of hundreds and hundreds of INCLUDED songs at any tempo and in any key. Any number of choruses. Ability to select the rhythmic style. Ability to select the instrumentation of the rhythm section. Ability to dial rhythm instruments up or down - or out. You can even enter your own song chord changes. It’s not just a practice tool. You can hook your phone up to an amp and perform in public with this app. Make playlists. This is one of THE most well designed, well maintained and useful apps anywhere.

Simply THE Best Teaching Tool Ever!. Of all the fifty plus years I have been teaching music, iRealPro is the best teaching tool I have ever had available. It makes examples so easy to demonstrate in so many musical circumstances. My students are being taught to be musicians not pickers and posers. IRealPro is an integral part of that process. With my online students it is a snap to send charts and the accompaniment tracks for them to practice with. My one wish would be that there could be a conversion tool included to turn the WAV files into MP3 files for a more standardized format for emailing. IRealPro is simply the best!! THANK YOU!!! Great for Any Musician. This app helps me out a lot when I’m learning how to improvise over tunes. It also is a great way for me to type in chord changes to get used certain scales and modal patterns. I would recommend this to any musician trying to find another tool to help them improve.

Love this app; very handy for gigs.. I love this app. Sure, it doesn't have the lead line like the Real Book would, but it's a very handy app for gigs! Say your vocalist wants to sing "Misty" in A flat instead of the normal key of E flat. No problem! This app allows you to transpose the chart instantly. The changes are usually pretty accurate and one can also practice with the 'play along' feature, and vary the tempo, key signature and number of times the tune is played. Some of the best money I've ever spent on a phone app.

Great App! A little mechanical sounding.... Love this app! My ONLY suggestion for improvement would be to make it so that the note velocity in the chordal instrument have a little more of a humanistic quality. Maybe make each note velocity, or even whole chord velocities, be a little varied. Everything hammers at the same volume now, which is pretty mechanical sounding. Don't know how you'd achieve that. But if you did, I could gig with this!

IReal Pro. I really enjoy practicing guitar and voice with IReal Pro. I am making real progress with my guitar. It is a lot of fun and I am learning a lot more with jazz chords. It is easy to use. I keep my iPad in my purse so I can carry everything and use it when I want. SN

Excellent app. For the money, an excellent way to practice with an instant backing track. If you play different instruments, it can quickly transpose for you. Also very useful to transpose keys on the fly to accommodate singers. One suggestion: Please allow the app to open to a favorite playlist

Excellent teaching tool. I am a music teacher and this allows my students to hear and see chord progressions while we play along together at various speeds. Easy to build charts too!

Blues styles. Can not say enough about this app. The new styles help to improve my timing on a lot of the songs that seemed a little lost in the given styles. Coming back to them after learning in blues styles works great for me. Tech. Response is "A plus". Thank-you!

Can’t Imagine Being Without It!. Started trumpet 7 years ago as a senior, couldn’t read a note! This App made all the difference for practice and gigs! Why play an instrument if you are not surrounded by the song’s arrangement and other instruments?! IRealPro is terrific. And, their contact desk is amazing for your questions! Speedy reply and coherent responses. Get it!

Outstanding. I have been using this app for about 2 years, and it is truly outstanding. I use it with a split screen with the music playing in the other half of the screen. The support is also superb.

fantastic program!. THis was exactly what I was looking for as a ‘backup track’ for playing solo piano - it’s easy to use and you can set up looping in particular sections. Help, when I needed it, was quick and useful

As a performing solo/duo jazz guitarist, finding an app that's simple and predictable enough to provide backing drums that sound authentic, appealing, and correlate directly with the lead sheet, offer transpositions, stylistic variety... well that's a very tall order, but you've achieved it. Terrific Tool. I was turned on to this App by a music professor at a state university and I was blown away with all the features it offers for musicians to hone their craft, at their own pace and time. I was also recently impressed by their awesome level of prompt support. This App is a gem at your fingertips!

Too bad. Used to be able to highlight a section and it would repeat that section. That feature seems to have been eliminated. Too bad.

Get This App!!. Whether you’re a serious amateur musician, semi-pro, or seasoned pro, this is a must-have app for practicing and gigging. And if you’re a jazz musician, get this NOW! The only thing missing will be the heads, but you can download all the changes from the Real Book and practice to your heart’s content. Build set lists and take it to gigs, so long as you know the heads.

IRealPro. I have recently learned about iRealPro and I am totally thrilled with it. It has an amazing range of music. It’s flexible and user friendly. It’s definitely helped me with my practicing and playing. And the tech support is also great. I highly recommend it.

Bluegrass Banjo Backup. I love iReal Pro and use it almost daily for bluegrass band backup during banjo practice. The bluegrass instruments for backup are very musical and it’s easy to set up the chord sheets for the tunes I practice. The tutorials are excellent. I find the app now indispensable and superior to other backup track apps I have tried.

Yes!!. I haven’t used this app in a while and I needed backing tracks and I remembered iReal Pro! It is so wonderful! It’s still alive! It’s updated! If you are a soloist and need to woodshed, this is THE go to app for backing tracks!!

iReal Pro. Love this app so far, great practice tool, and I think there is much that I haven’t discovered. My only reservation thus far is that you can’t back up a few seconds to play a part over. I know the songs usually repeat, but having that feature would be a great plus.

Have used for years, love it!. It allows you to set up different types of set lists, using variations of different instruments. A must for the non-reader who has an ear for lead!

iReal Pro is essential. As a college jazz/contemporary voice teach, this app has become my #1 support tool. We’re using the record/share option for our final jury submissions during this crazy time of physical distancing. The BEST, most utilized app on my iPad and iPhone.

Essential Tool For Jazz. iReal Pro is an essential tool for every jazz musician, from beginners to seasoned professionals! It offers musicians an opportunity to develop soloing chops, melodies, comping and supportive lines. The incredible flexibility offered by iReal Pro makes it an excellent platform to use both in the practice room and on stage. I use iReal Pro in my daily practice routine.

Truly the best, but one question:. This is the best app at what it does, and I have more than gotten my money’s worth. I just wonder, why can’t they add the melodies/allow the users to write the melody for their own charts? It’s just midi, and would likely be easy to implement, so is it copyright reasons?

Problem sharing playlists since the latest iPhone update. I still love the app for practice and for organizing my own lists. But ever since the latest iOS update, the option to share a list in the iReal format doesn’t work. That was one of my favorite / most useful things about the app, so I hope it gets updated!

Great app. This is a fantastic app that really let’s you drill in the changes. One suggestion I have though would be to add a microtonal transposition option i.e. converting 440 Hz to 430 Hz so that intentionally/unintentionally out of tune with 440 instruments can play along as well. Everything else is perfect!

Awesome!. In my opinion this is the greatest teaching tool I have ever come across for working on tunes and improvisation. To have the parameters to change so many elements is hugely helpful to my students and I also use it to work tunes in 12 keys as part of my practice routine. A definite must have. 👍🏼

To IRealPro: I love you. This has become an instrumental tool to use both in the practice room and on gigs. Practicing over solo changes helped me master songs like Giant Steps and Donna Lee and has changed the way I play my horn. On gigs, it’s perfect to check the chord changes and your song set list that way you’re never off from The rhythm section in a solo. Absolutely brilliant!

Exceptional for students. This program revolutionized my practice. As an aspiring jazz bassist, practicing walking bass lines and other fundamentals of jazz bass is just tedious after a while with no band mates. IReal fills that role for practice for me. I easily triple my practice time by having a virtual combo. But more importantly, I enjoy practice more! The display of piano voicing is also quite helpful for me in building bass lines. The ability to export the midi to use this when tracking is also very helpful. I recommend this product! Worth every penny!

Exceptional tool. I have spent endless hours playing these tunes and it doesn’t ever get old. Change the tempo, change keys or you can record your performances to listen to and critique. Just great!!!

Best app of its kind. Pro musician, music director and producer here. There's is nothing even close to this app. On gigs or for practicing playing over changes, it is untouchable. Plus, the amount of material available on the forums in every genre is always growing. One is the few apps that is worth every penny you'll pay, and more.

Incredible resource. To have access to library of this size years ago would have cost you hundreds of dollars. The ability to transpose, edit, create charts, and have customizable accompaniment tracks is absolutely amazing. IReal pro is one of the best resources and best values out there.

Awesome app. I’m a relatively new user. I have been using it to practice vocals with pre-loaded tunes (there are thousands of them) and to play along with my guitar and Uke. I’ve recently begun learning to enter my lead sheets and have found it to be quite intuitive and ireal pro assistance is excellent.
