  • Fantastic! Awesome!

I've been using it -- for paid gigs--since it launched. At this point I have close to 1,000 personalized arrangements. From standards to bossas to funk, r&b, rock, pop. I play solo guitar on top of iReal at weddings, restaurants, private parties. With budgets tight, and fewer restaurants hiring bands, iReal keeps me gigging steadily. Yes, I wish it did a few more things, but Massimo keeps making it better.

I got my first fake book in 1972. Been a professional musician since aged 12 (in the '60s). The original iReal Book was a decent, digital fake book--limited, yes, but of SOME value to musicians who could use a portable collection of standards. THIS thing may be of some minuscule value to a student, or it may be okay if the user laboriously ADDS tunes to it--one at a time--but where's the convenience of THAT?!
  • Helpful app for songwriters, musicians

I use this app to write songs, to work out chord progressions, as a rough demo for a backing track. I love how easy it is to write, edit chord progressions, then use the various styles to play the backing track.
  • The very best at what it sets out to do

Very happy for several years. Great practice tool.
  • Generally OK App

Pros: - Tons of chord charts for tons of songs - You can create your own charts - Transposition! Cons - Sorry singers, no lyrics and no music, just chords - Others can create charts and not uncommon that there will be mistakes - There is one font at a time ever. You cannot save a chart in piano or guitar or ukulele, you have to change the font for everything and then change it back if you want chords for a particular instrument.
  • Name that tune????

It should be more obvious how to name a song! C'mon guys. Great program otherwise
  • Everyone uses it

Best $15 I ever spent. Great for practicing, for sharing charts, for making charts to share. I find it fast to make chord charts with a little learning required about editing charts. Lots of players use it, and I use it almost daily. The support is also good. I'm up to about 3000 songs stored.
  • Good, could be great

The essence of the app is very good - get lots of music in various notations. The big limitation that I do not like is that I have to play a song to see the chords. It would be much better if I could see the tablature for the whole sheet. You can also see different chord positions, but it's a lot of clicks and swipes to see each chord in each position. Really too much work to be useful. So the interface could be greatly improved to see the notation in various views and move through the music with fewer gestures. Also the search feature is arcane and cumbersome. Google search for each individual sheet is really impossible to use easily. The playlist feature greatly helps this. I think all material could be organized in an easier to navigate organizational scheme. So overall the user interface could be improved. As it is it's very good function but not as useful as I'd like. I want to see all chord forms easily so I can practice easily without constantly touching the screen.
  • This app...

Had been in my phone and iPad for years. It keeps getting better and impressive. Love what it does because it does it very well. If you need charts and need to practice them with a band sound, this is for you. The genres in styles are great and I have yet to not find what I need. Keep up the great work on this app!
  • Perfect

Amazing! If you are a musician and don't have this app you should be ashamed.
  • Great stuff! And excellent customer service

    By Bhytd
Obviously great for practicing...Took me a minute to figure out how to duplicate an existing tune, mess around with it and turn it into a clever original. 'Also highly recommend, if you have a "mind" to, inputting a series of nutty altered unrelated chords played over "wrong" bass notes, set tempo to the slowest and have one of the pads or string settings play it back. You can get some spooky stuff. Questions to support are answered quickly. All in all definitely worth the price.
  • A must

I usually don't go out of my way to review things but this app is absolutely priceless to any jazz musician of any level. It's extremely personal, customizable, practical, and you can get essentially any backing track you need. Not to mention you can customize the track to your liking. A beautifully simple app worth every penny.
