Best dollar I've ever spent in my life.... I must admit that I didn't know what I was getting into when I purchased this application. I thought it would just be a cool toy, like the Sonic Lighter (which I don't own, but considering this app I will probably buy it). The Lighter just looks pretty. I thought I would blow into the Ocarina, and it would sound pretty. I would be mildly entertained for a few minutes and then probably never open the application again. Boy was I wrong. I've played with this application more in the past four days than the entirety of all of my other entertainment-based apps combined. What I didn't realize was that the Ocarina is an ACTUAL instrument. Cheapest one I've ever seen, might I add. It's fun to play, and fun to listen to others play. The online community is very active with musically-talented people. I'm not one of them, but I'm picking up on a few songs. Sheets have been made for so many different songs, from the Pink Panther theme to Mad World by Gary Jules, We Wish You a Merry Christmas to I Kissed a Girl. Playing this instrument is very fun, and very, very addictive. Hours of play, most certainly worth the money.

Near Perfection. Magnificent! While the numerous modes and root notes give this application the ability to create great melodies, I gave four stars because I want to be able to choose other wind instruments (i.e., clarinet, oboe, saxaphone, etc.). Even more, imagine what other orchestral instruments would do to improve the enjoyment of this already wonderful application on a global scale. What would a brass, string, or percussion instrument sound like when played on this fantastic application? Also, adding the ability to create our own instruments with oscilators (i.e., sine wave, squre wave, sawtooth wave, etc.) and then an option for adding effects (i.e., flange, sustain, wa-wa by tilting the phone, or even pitch bending) would make this application more enjoyable and valuable. I agree with others that more fingering options (i.e., more holes) would improve the musicality of this near perfect application. I'm glad I bought it and I would have paid more if the options were more readily available. Thank you for creating a great instrument. Just a thought, JWSTigre

Awesome!! very simply yet creative!!. Don't let it simplicity fool you, this app. is one of the best app in the App Store. It's now on my top list of the app on my iPhone that I actually use. I have all those pianis, guitarist, pocket guitar, digidrum but I'd give it up to Ocarina.. It looks confusing at first but you can learn with in a day if you already have music backgroud. For those who don't have , i can imagine learning it within a week or so. The website also has a score generator that you can actually record the notes of your favorite songs or you can play other people bandscores. Another cool thing is that you can hear music from all over the world and actually know where it comes from. There's also a feature that people who like your song can give you a feedback which you can track by going to the information window. With only $0.99, nothing can go wrong.

I like for this to be updated.. At least make a minor update to this app like having different flute sounds and a Legend of Zelda ocarina flute as well as backgrounds since it’s a little dull. If not can you make Ocarina 2? You can promote the idea on other apps you update regularly or on your yt.

Ingenious!!. I download many applications; I'm a bit of an app junkie. But really, this is by far my favorite. It's easily the most creative and innovative I've seen - almost futuristic! The instrument sounds great, is completely portable, and above all is just extremely enjoyable to play! The world view is the icing on the cake... seeing the twirling column of notes spiral upwards as a stranger in a distant country trills out Imagine, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, or Amazing Grace almost brings tears to my eyes. The huge selection of sheet music on the website makes this very user-friendly and easy to grasp. There are a few little things that could enhance it a bit, such as the ability to 'favorite' players and have a list of your favorites showing the ones currently playing so you can listen to them, or perhaps being able to enter a country to hear from, or possibly to tap on the note column in world view and be told the location (more precisely) of the player. I'm sure some new perfecting tweaks will show up in future updates. But whether or not they do, this is a fantastic app in all respects!

A Simple Piece of Music in a Mobile App. Does as it says. What's more is that it takes it to other users who also wish to share their performance to the world. This app was very innovative with multiple touch input and a microphone back then. More apps should follow this kind of ideas.

Perfect. Just what I was looking for. Thanks

China. I tapped on China and my game crashed

Nice app!. I love it. If you are wondering why I have four stars and not five, it's to get you look at it and to take my suggestions serously because If you put one or more of them in I'll give five ;). First, comments on other people's music would be nice( also you might want I include a report button, and if 5 or so or more report it the comment gets deleted). Next, if you could somehow put the browser/a collection of songs on a splitscreen with the keys that would be helpful to play songs without being by a computer to see the notes. Third, I never know if anyone has liked my song :(, :p, so if you could put a screen for that would also be nice. I was thinking more keys but.. That would make the screen too crowded so maybe like a button that makes all the other keys sound different (like an octive key). And that's all for now ;).

Oco. I wish you would update this app.

Update. I am a really big fan of LoZ and I think this app would be better if you added ocarinas that have more holes.

Bleh!. Its pretty cool except for my TOY ocarina is easier to work than this i have to blow the back of my phone so i cant see what im playing and there should be more than four notes

Just wondering?. I have to say, I love this app! Me, my sister, my dad, and my mom all have iPhones and we all have this app. We love to play together, and we even are going to put together a show on Christmas for the family. It's great how many different songs there are on the web site. I just have one question though. Are the people on the Global Community playing in real time? I ask this because I found myself on it and the songs that I heard were from a couple if days earlier. Anyway I have one suggestion I would like to see in the next update. I would like to be able to pick a song from the web site, directly from my iPhone and have it so that the keys light up according to which note I should play next. That way I don't need to be around my computer, to play the sheet music. Thanks!

Holes. I wish we could have more option towrds how many holes, even if max holes is 7, that would be great. Anyhow I still VERY MUCH enjoy this and when I forgot my ocarina I can still play this with my phone, it is a very wonderful app and hope to gain more popularity.

Warning to new users. It works but I’m giving you a warning now, I legitimately broke my built in mic on my iPad 6 by using this and now no one can hear me when I voice chat with them unless they have their volume maxed out with no background noise and me yelling in the mic. The app works as it should but don’t over do it or else you won’t be able to use it.

Very fun!!!. I love this app, and it's so fun. However, I think it would be cool if they could add in more holes

Hate it but mostly love it!. I love it! It’s brings back those Legend of Zelda days.. But.. I wish it had lessons to do songs! It would make it a whole lot better! And easier!

Awesome. I really wish you could add songs for us to play

I’m enjoying it!!!. This app is great!! For someone who loves the legend of Zelda, my heart is content!! I do wish there were more holes and songs to play

My absolute favorite instrument app. I’ve been using this app since 2009 or 2010 and it has brought my life so much joy. It’s like always having a musical instrument in your pocket. I love to pull it out and play songs for my friends. I use the Ionian and Dorian modes to play everything from Somewhere Over the Rainbow to Hava Nagila. Truly the best party trick. If you have the patience to learn the instrument there’s no way you won’t love this app.

HATE IT YOU OWE ME 329$. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 IT TOLD ME TO BLOW INTO THE MICROPHONE AND IT MESSED IT UP YOU OWE ME 329$ NOW!!!!!!

Love this app!. I like this app because I love to play the flute. I think this app is a wonderful tool for beginners. I would recommend it to anyone.

Plays great! Records like a glitchy chipmunk randomly running over piano keys. I have loved this app for ages. It's a shame that the ocarina plays great now (something that used to be a problem) but now the recording aspect is completely glitchy on my iPhone 4 (32gb). Not only does the digitizer fail to catch most of the notes I play, even when I play slowly, but the rendered recording on their website is soft to the point of inaudible. So I can't share tunes anymore using this app. The shame is it seems you can't share songs with Ocarina 2, either. Perhaps Smule will be phasing out the "My Ocarina" aspect of their website soon. At any rate, this app still works great if you are looking for a 4-hole ocarina app for your iPhone. Although Songbird Ocarina has more instruments (and tilt and slide note bending), the 4-hole, staggered layout of Ocarina is superior and less cramped–therefore less prone to touch errors. (Although, with Ocarina 2 available now, you may be better off purchasing that.)

Good , but. I seem to recall it had a feature similar to piano app where it shows the notes to some songs? Would help me a lot. I love it otherwise

There are a few minor issue, but this is the best app out there. This application is ridiculously fun to play around with. You can either play the Ocarina or you can opt to listen in on others who are playing around the world. It would be nice if the global browsing actually had the option to choose which player you'd like to listen to, or even just the ability to cycle through the players within your area. The biggest issue with the app is touch response for the finger holes. It can get a little frustrating and annoying when the iPhone doesn't register your finger-presses or ignores a press that it has previously accepted. Hopefully these two issues will be resolved. If so, this will be a legendary application by which all other music applications will be measured. **Update** After submitting a debug email to the developers, I received a quick response covering the multitouch button response issue. I was informed that the problem with the touchscreen response is an Apple-side firmware issue that should be corrected with an upcoming firmware update. I'm hoping for the best because I love this app despite the frustrations. Still, currently it cannot serve as a practically reliable instrument until a fix is applied. **Update Pt.2** I've adjusted my score from 4stars to 5stars in support of the Smule team in light of the fact that the biggest issue I've had with this app could be the fault of Apple rather than the dev team.

Amazing. This app at first seems, so bad but after you get used to it, it becomes a great way to spend your day

What happened to this app??. What happened to this app?? I used to play this constantly many years ago and then forgot about it until just now. But as I’m trying to go back online to find all of the sheet music to start playing again it’s nowhere to be found. The website doesn’t even exist for the ocarina anymore. What gives?? Why take an entire website down?? If you aren’t going to keep the website then how do you expect people to learn to play songs. This used to be a great app but now I’m just disappointed.

Consider the following. And stay away from this app

Doesn’t work. Keys are not responsive and you cannot play anything with it

The Best Application Available!. This Application I bought without any awareness of what it actually was, I just saw that it made sounds and music, it was a very cheap price and looked amazing. So I bought it and found it to be a 12,000 year old instrument origianting in Ancient South America. It has more capacity and is worth a lot more than any 300 dollar Ocarina and you can make the most beautiful folk songs you could imagine. It works as a genuine instrument completely to your own liking and sound. It is stunning, fun, you can name the ocarina, have many modes to use, and notes. It is an unbelievable price worth more than 99 cents! It could have many more options, but really it is still better than any Traditional Ocarina. If yoyu have never played or used an instrument and want to you must get this! It is worth it and you will never get bored. Practice makes perfect and it is not as easy as it looks.

A lot of fun. This is a great app, especially for so cheap! It's a great value. I only have a few minor complaints. It asks me every time I open the app if I want to l let it use my current location. It would be great if you could set this once and have the option of changing it in settings. Also, I find it mildly difficult to hold while still seeing the buttons. I realize it's not necessary to press exactly on the button, but I like to look at the screen. Finally, it is a bit hard to learn; there's a lot of different button combinations and the sounds aren't always logical in my mind. That's probably how a regular ocarina works but I don't actually know. However, you don't need to memorize what buttons make what sounds to have fun with this app. It's entertaining and great to mess around with. It sounds great and the only problems I have are minor.

Outstanding! Way outside the box!. I've purchased a boatload of apps on the App Store (80+), but this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review. This is an outstanding piece of software that represents the efforts of a group of people thinking way outside the box. I'm musically inclined (classical piano and guitar), so I'm enjoying the app very much (plus the scores on the Smule site are a nice touch). Every other person that has seen/tried the app on my iPhone has also been blown away by the implementation of the ocarina plus the worldwide view. The app needs some touch up work. Sometimes a note will get "stuck" (meaning it thinks my finger is still pressing a hole when it is definitely not). Also, as others have pointed out, the app needs a recording function that will allow the music to be transfered off the phone. Lastly, a "favorite musicians" feature for the worldwide view would also be nice. Well worth the $0.99. Great job, Smule!

I am not an educated music player... But I can play this instrument!. I was just on the Ocarina users forums, reading about a "playability problem" in regard to notes not always playing as instructed ("holes" opening and closing unpredictably in certain conditions). In fact, the program creators were there also commenting on this issue. Here is what i have found out for myself: Ocarina of course drains battery power rather aggressively, and seems to consequently NEED peak power available for accuracy in note rendering. So, I have found out that keeping the phone powered via its charge cable (to outlet or USB) does stabilize operation completely. No more "holes" opening and closing willy nilly. In fact, seems that as long as battery power stays full, things work well on battery power only... Problem: it does not work well for long! So, soon I am back to charger (or USB cable) again. Perhaps it is just a coincidence with my iPhone (iPhone2g - Dec. 07). Perhaps better way for the Ocarina creators to control this situation? Otherwise, great app and beautiful sound; I live on an Indian Reservation and of course Ocarina sounds like... A Native American Flute! - Roger T

Great app, yet.... This is by far one of the most fun apps I played on with it's listening to other players around the world and playing good pieces of music, but when I found the account settings and figured I'd sign up to change my location, I couldn't sign up in the app. Furthermore, when I tried signing up at the main website, I was blocked by an "object object" excuse. Am I doing something wrong?

The best app I own. I have four pages full of apps on my iPhone and this is my favorite. I am a professional musician, producer and engineer and I can say that this instrument has real MUSICALITY. I own a couple other iPhone instruments and while they can have cool sounds or effects or features, I have found no other instruments that are actually musical (meaning that the sounds you make on it could be used in a real song, recording, performance, etc.) Ocarina is also just plain fun, and it's fun for anyone--kids and adults alike. It's so easy to load it up and start making cool sounds. Being able to listen to others around the world is extremely cool, almost magical. You get a 3d globe interface (multitouch zoomable) where you can see other Ocarina players. There are 2 features I'd like to see in this app: 1) Ability to choose a specific person/place in the world to listen to (right now it just randomly switches around) and 2) Ability to record your performance.

Seriously COOLEST App Ever. I was so excited to see that this app was back. For years it seems we had lost it and I’m so so excited. This is the coolest app. I love that you can actually use your phone like a horn and blow in it and make beautiful music. Years ago, when we first discovered it, before it left the store for a long, long time, we had a Christmas talent show at home, and my young son played music on his phone with his mouth like a horn!!! It was absolutely beautiful and amazed everybody. I love love love this app and I hope it is here to stay!!!

More holes. Hey, I love this app a lot. I’m a HUGE Zelda fan, and this app gives that little extra immersion. But I’m trying to play Megalovania, and without two more holes at least, it won’t sound good at all. So plz, plz, PLZ add more holes to the ocarina. Other than that, Great App!

Trash. You cannot do anything. It's rlly boring since there is one ocarina and no songbooks. Also, there is only one person in the WORLD who is even playing when I get on, so it gets boring 🚽🚽🚽🗑🗑🗑

Classic original app. Thanks

Best instument on the iPhone period!. Update: The only real gripe I have now is that Apple moved the microphone to the left side of the iPhone 4 and changed the sensitivity of the microphone. Nothing wrong with the app though. Maybe it would be cool to take advantage of the iOS4 multitasking so I can listen to the globe while doing other things. Still a great app. Go Smule! Such a simple yet powerful little instrument in my pocket! From now on I Will never be able to say I'm bored. I can play along with songs on the radio and use it to tune my guitar or as a pitch pipe when I need to find a note and don't have a piano handy. The fact that Smule has free sheet music for this instrument available on their website is also a really cool feature. Plus it's cool to hear other people around the world. I do wish I could choose different generas to listen to or there was a way to weed out the performances that are obviously just messing around. But that would require a lot more than this app set out to accomplish. Well done!

It’s a little weird. It’s weird because I have an iPad and lm pretty sure the only way to play is not blowing into the speaker from a distance 😡 I actually have to put my mouth on it to work😡 witch is disgusting!😡

cool app, but not perfect. This is an incredibly innovative way of using the hardware features of the iPhone, and it's totally great for impressing friends who don't have iPhones. ( I wonder, though, why it shouldn't be just as impressive to whip out the recorder you had in elementary school music class and start playing that.) I really like the idea of listening to other people's Ocarina music around the world, and I like seeing which part of the globe the music is coming from. Unfortunately, most of the music seems to be just meandering series of notes with no melodic or harmonic structure, which is maybe cool if you're Philip Glass but not so cool if you're just some random person using Ocarina. I know they have "sheet music" that is kind of like tablature for Ocarina, which is probably nice for people who don't read music. It would be cool to have a dynamic Rock Band-like instruction, too.

Ok look. I like it but it’s just that I wish the blowing was a little better because it’s hard to blow

Fun but needs more. I would love if the app had more than a four hole ocarina. I have a twelve hole myself (yeah I’m that nerd) and in my opinion it’s easier to play certain songs on an ocarina with more holes.

a true classic. i've had this game since the iphone 3G... AMAZING! 5 stars

Loved it to death but lost all my songs. I’ve had this since it’s first release. I uploaded hundreds of songs to my profile but now it’s all gone. All the music I’ve made is now lost in time. Very sad to see it gone. I still love and play this app continually, but as a musician to see all my work disappear with no one to ever hear my previous work saddens me.

Thank you!!. Thank you for making it free!! I've been using Ocarina 2 for the past 3-4 years and without any updates, I was very limited on what I was able to do. Now that Ocarina is free I won't have to use the Ocarina 2 that was discontinued anymore!

Decent app. Fun at first.. I’d rate higher but I wish there was an alternative to the microphone. My phone doesn’t properly pick up the action, so the playing is uneven, although I appreciate the variance in breath translating to a variance in sound. A touch-only option would definitely benefit this app. Another problem was the voting system on the globe. I couldn’t tell if the votes were actually going through. Otherwise this app is fun to play with.

Just a thought.. It took all of five minutes with this app to realize that the visual breath indicator , looks like ripples on a pond, doesn't display no matter how hard you blow on iPhone 4s. You can change the color of the breath but it won't display while blowing. Logic would say that if it worked on other iPhones than there is nothing wrong with this app. Therefor the 4s must have some sort of noise canceling feature on the mic. To eliminate background noises such as wind. So the only fix would be to adjust the sensitivity of the mic. To my knowledge this can't be done. This to me sounds like a hardware problem so no software update would ever fix this unless the type of mic is an adjustable kind. I've no idea if it is. Good news is your new 4s will give you clearer sounding calls. Bad news is this app will probably always suffer on it. Hope for the future: an iPhone update that will allow you to turn off noise cancelation, just like a tv that can toggle on and off digital noise reduction. Hope this helps point the way to new and possibly overlooked trouble shooting points. I love The Legend of Zelda and have wanted this app for years so I'm giving it a 3 out of 5 anyway.

blowing my phone. my phone loves this app. now it gets blown all the time.

Buy this application!. I am a poor Uni student so when it comes to buying apps on the app store I choose wisely. I saw ocarina and I thought I gave it a shot for 1.19, and my goodness this was the best 1.19 I've spent in my life! When I booted it up I just saw 4 buttons and a signal asking me to blow into mic. I was amazed! And with the global music sharing capability My goodness this just rocks ! I cannot stress enough to get and keep this app! Show it off to ur friends or enemies!

Suggestion. This probably applies to all your instrument apps - love the way I can hear others playing but can I suggest introducing levels of skill. It appears that after 20 hours of any activity a level of mastery begins. Could your app track how long people play and let them into a higher level after 20 hours, and another after 100 etc.

My dreams have come true. I have always wanted an ocarina but couldn't find one anywhere so when I saw this app I got it without hesitation!

Awesome app. This app has really Been thought out. It's a nice little instrument that you can easily play and you can find songs on their website. Defiantly recommend to anyone who plays music or would like to.

Tooter of Awsomeness!!!. I love this app! Fun, creative, and easy to use! My only critisism is when I listen to my tunes playback the tempo/notes is a little out, but hopefully that's been fixed in the update. Otherwise the greatest app I've ever bought.

It’s hard. This app has a nice concept but to actually find the point as to where you are supposed to blow is stupidly difficult and when you find it you can’t hear it over the blowing. It also doesn’t have any built in songs to learn to play instead it asks you to look them up online which is very helpful I found.

A creative addition to your iPhone. What a lovely app! It's such a pleasant change to have an app which allows you to be creative and musical, and share your music with others worldwide on your iPhone! There are so many different modes to choose from as well as different keys and it doesn't rely on preset 'effects' . I play saxophone and was also concerned about the possible adverse effects of condensation on the mic, but have found that it's possible make the app work by using the mic on the headphones, by holding the mic between your lips. A bit clumsier than using the onboard mic, but worth trying. Okay the condensation might adversely affect the headphone mic as well but it's preferable replacing a set of headphones than possibly screwing up the onboard mic on the phone itself. Another way of protecting the onboard mic might be to hold a tissue over it while playing? This slight problem aside, I think this app is great fun and great value.

Brilliant!. This app has given me tons of enjoyment. I can't believe I didn't think of this myself! Use your microphone on the iDevice and the touchscreen to cover or open the 'Ocarina' holes. There are a ton of tunes online in note format. You can also record your own and share them! Thanks for an awesome App Smule!

iPhone 6?. Great app! I had it on my iphone 3 and still play it every now and then. So when is this thing gonna optimized for later models? 'Cause iphone 6 comes out in less than half a year.

EXCELLENT. Need I really say more? Well okay if you insist. This has got to be the most creative use of the iPhone yet! The world feature is also mind blowing (though I wish more people actually played well). I'm surprised to see people in New Zealand playing the orcarina at 4am! Definitely a sign of how good it is. One thing I would like is for it to look better. The four circles are not exactly a work of art.

Amazing!. I don't usually buy many apps, but this is a fantastic little app! There's even a whole community behind it writing songs that you can learn to play (or write your own). Definitely worth the buck!

A favorite. I'm really enjoying this app. It's got an open ended quality that promises to challenge for months to come. It would be nice to see a karaoke-like 'follow the bouncing ball' function for learning tunes

Lovely!. Works on the iPad as well, although it is much easier to enable the touch mode to make the sound rather than blowing into the mic :P A beautiful app, I was playing amazing grace in minutes despite not being able to read music or being in any way musically adept :)

Great app. This application is simply amazing. It creates a wonderful sound and it's so sensitive which what makes it so realistic. However, it can improve by adding perhaps another octave as well as expand the notes into semitiones (ie sharps and flats). If such improvements are made, I'm sure it will become even more enjoyable,

Brilliant. It is so good and offcially my favourite app. It a real instument and it's wonderful you can even change keys and sound type. It's definatly a must have app and a bargain at this price!

Good app but concerns. Edit: I have been using the app more and like mentioned before it's very good BUT... The Devs really need to fix the multi key press issue. This application could be a real instrument and more then a toy if they fixed the major problem of often not being able to select multiple keys at once or the keys randomly unselecting. For clean music time after time we can't have the multiple key notes not being able to be selected. Please fix this urgently. Finished Edit. The application is good but the iPhone mic is not meant to be used as a instrument to blow on. I think in the mid to longterm this will damage your iPhone mic with spit and condensation, I have played instruments in the past and with almost all of the wind instruments you have a valve to clean to spit that builds up inside. Your iphone mic was not build to be blown on like an instrument for the longterm.

Fantastic. An amazing app. I've played zelda tunes, fur elise, the star wars theme song and much more on this ocarina app. It sounds great, is much simplier then a real ocarina and great to show off to your friends. Just make sure you are touching the silver on your iPhone or touch recognition will be poor until they fix it.

Great product. Suggestion to improve: to increase number of notes/holes on device

Difficult switch over.. I really loved this app when playing it on my iPhone 3G but now I have swapped over to the 4s I must admit that it has been rather tricky to adjust to. The microphone seems to be far more sensitive to sound than my old phone. But I have gotten used to it and it is working perfectly, you just need to experiment with how close you hold it to yourself. It's the best app around!

Brilliant, fun, easy, wonderful. At first I could not understand how this app could have so many great reviews, but it was cheap so I decided to give it a go. WOW. It is amazingly fun, easy, beautiful, and there are hundreds of easy song sheets available for it. Loads of carols on there too, so great fun for Christmas. And I haven't even got started on the world music features yet - it deserves five stars for its basic function alone. Even if you're not really into music it is just brilliant, it really is an app for everyone. I cannot fault it. It also has a lovely old skool feel of recorder lessons in music class, so there's an extra nostalgia buzz too.

Brilliant !!! .  fantatic fun. If you download it, make sure you jump into their website and look at some songs to play. Really simple to play. Awesome. 

Y. Cool

amazing!. wow this is absolutely amazing. I cant believe I hesitated when purchasing this. Sounds beautiful, and I have spent all evening searching and trying to play songs on the smule website. Now I'm practising my boyfriends fave song to surprise him when I see him next! so much fun and easy to use, dont pass it up, and definately dont try it without checking out the song sheets available for you to play. love love love this!!!

Like the app but. I like it and it worked well but recently when I open it it keeps saying I need to stop all music or calls but I don't have any music playing or phone calls tried emailing developers but got no response

Great Fun!. This app is simply awesome. Provided me with endless entertainment via all of the music online that you can easily learn to read and play. Would recommend this to anyone to have a bit of fun. The interface is lovely and simple to use as well, and I think it makes great use of the iPhone capabilities. A job well done!

Awesome. A real musical instrument on iPhone. Definitely worth buying. I'm waiting for people to create beautiful music using this as my own skills aren't that great.

wonderful in so many ways. This is such a beautiful App! Most anyone can play it and make it sound nice, but with practice it can really get good. And I love the way you can hear what others are playing around the world - what a fantastic idea. The scores and forums are a wonderful resource for sharing work and thoughts. A truly multi-faceted app.

Completely amazing. I have downloaded at least 80 apps since I got my iPhone but have never written a review. But this app is honestly the best thing I have ever seen. I haven't been able to put it down! It's so damned easy to use and so much fun. Everyone should have this app on their phone. Plus it's only a dollar!

RUBBISH. I just downloaded this app, and iTunes took the money from my account and my iTunes on my computer crashed, 5 minutes later I looked in iTunes and the appisn't in my applications list or on my ipod after i synced it and in my purchase hustory in iStore it says i have bought ocarina and the money has been taken from my account. Is there anyway of apple tracing that i have paid for it, and I can re-downoad it for free?

Nice. I'm a Zelda fan and a violinist, so how could I overlook this? Other people have had iPhone 4 issues but I've had nothing like that on mine. Although, sheet music score in the app would be very helpful because having to use the computer for Songbook can get frustrating. Other than that, this is a great app and well worth $1.19.

Update. Funny. The first ever update in like a decade and the update is minor bugs fixed. Since your doing updates can you make a setting were you can download songs then make them play by them selfs? 

Perfect!. Ok I'm kinda a Zelda fan and I just had to buy this app, and well... ITS PERFECT!!!! first song I learned was zelda's lullaby, it took a while but I can play it off by hart now!! Although sometimes it rings out randomly, but all in all this is a must have for any Zelda fan.

Well. It's a awesome app but could do with sheet music in app because it's annoying doing it off a computer or whatever. Could do with a update but other than that it's fine.

Needs updating. This classic app I have had since my iPhone 3GS but it needs updating for the new mics in the newer iPhones as even blowing very hard nets very little sound. Please add a microphone gain slider in settings maybe? I’d love to see this app reborn it has a lot of nostalgia for me

Awesome! Keep up the great work Smule!. This is a great app. With a little practice, even those with no music training can play beautifully. Takes up very little space on your iPod and is a awesome bargain at just $1. This is definitely a must-have app. Those who say it isn't good obviously haven't yet worked out how to use it properly.

Cant hear jack diddly. This app is for iphone and iphone users alone because if you have an ipod touch - even one with the external speaker, you are never going to get any real volume from this at all. In fact, it's so quiet that it is almost useless for the use it was intended for. The sound clarity is also an issue and lacks any kind of richness or depth in tone and you are left with something that sounds quiet and cheap. Updates are also something that are few and far between - this is a forgotten and dead app.

Excelent app very fun. The app is brilliant and the community function it has is pretty cool. It's simple to use and it's very easy to go on the smule website and find out how to play songs The only thing holding me back from making this 5 stars is the fact that u need to exit the app to find sheet music on the smule website. It should be able to be done within the app

The best. The best music playing app around, recomend to all!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would like one thing a song book, can not seem to get the off-line. Love it, sounds beautiful. :))

More fun than a $1.19 should provide. Brilliant musical app I've become quite good now at playing the zelda theme and I have no musical experiance what so ever. Tis more fun than a dollar twenty should provide ever

Absolute stunner of an app. This would almost come under the label of "killer app" in my opinion. It may well become the ultimate show-off demo for the iPhone. ("Hey ... can your do this??") What really blew me away is discovering the 3d world view of Ocarina players. In essence, it's a 3d globe view (think Google Earth) with pin points of light denoting Ocarina players online. You can switch from player to player and hear the tunes each individual is playing. (Going online using iPhone location features is optional.) The developers have used iPhone's multi-touch screen, location capability, microphone and programmability to create a stunner of an app. [disclaimer - this is not a paid review, it really aint!] They could so easily have charged more. I would have paid more. I'm not resting until I can write the music score for, and play, the Picnic at Hanging Rock theme tune. :-) [Feature request: other instrument sounds and recording please!]

Sweet app. Love it so much! Would be great if you could put a "play with assist" mode where you can load up a song chart and it will highlight the fingering.

Brilliant. A true iPhone instrument. Not just another toy piano, guitar or drumkit. This is a genuine wind instrument. Already discussing using it in a live performance. Watch the video help, it's a a big help. Those concerned with mics killed by spit need to watch. 1) you keep the mic away from your mouth. 2) you blow quite gently. 3) you can tilt the mic. You can even use an external mic and avoid any risk. Listening to others playing live from around the world is also excellent. 3d globe is smooth and responsive. Why can't all devs make apps like this.

Amazing program. This is so much fun I can't leave it alone. I've only had it 2 days and have picked it up quite quickly. The web site is a great help because I'd be lost without it at this stage. Amazing what you can do with a phone!! I congratulate Smule.

Realy cool. Love this as it is so different from anything else. just wonder why it always asks for location, each time switch it on, get's a bit annoying but if that was taken off just a great instument and enjoyable and relaxing. great job

Does not work on the 2nd gen touch. I know that it says that it isn't compatible with the ipod touch, but until the 2.2 software update it apparently was, as long as you had headphones with a remote and mic. However, this is no longer the case. DO NOT buy the app until they release an update, until then you are basically giving smule your money.

The Legend of Smule. At first I found it hard to get used to. It certaintly is a learning curve. Once I looked at one of Smule's score sheets, I was able to get the hang of it. When I played my first song, "You Raise Me Up" I couldn't help but smile. I also love the fact that I can see how other people around the world are making music. This is an amazing app, and I recommend everyone to try it.

OMG. Oh my god.... This is the most awesome app I have ever downloaded on my iphone ever! I have spent the entire day practising and checking out new scores from the smule forums. This app has practically turned my iPhone into a musical instrument! I am so amazed by this app. If that wasn't enough, you've thrown in the global view which now made this app worth a million stars. Simply amazing!!! **edit** nabbed the 1st spot! Awesome!

Fantastic app. This is the best app I have found for the iPhone. I have been a full time musician for 20 years and I am completely drawn to this but it is easy to see how anybody can pick this up in minutes ( but like all instruments it requires practice ) I cannot recommend more highly.

2 Things... This would be perfect with 2 minor changes. 1 record yourself playing. 2 choose a specific source in the world view. Other than that, absolutely stunning app. Buy it now. Trust me, you won't regret it.

Very creative & ingenuous. This is wonderful and such a clever and creative title. It truly turns your iPhone into a musical instrument. It makes me want to get out my old N64 and play Legend of Zelda all over again & learn all the ocarina tunes from the game. Well done to the developers. It would be gr8 to add a recording function but apart from that this is pretty difficult to improve on.

Awesome. This is truly an awesome app!! My thorat is dry from blowing to much! :)

Too much fun!!. I love it. Lots of music to be made and I want to pull out the 64 now.

Can't get rid of this. Make it stop how do I get this off my phone?

Not advanced enough. It is okay. I just don't see the value of the app being more than 99 cents. I would like to see more effort and updating. Very expensive for what you get - seems simple. Looking forward to a huge update. Thanks.

Innovative. Finally, an application that looks like it has had some professionals attending to it. This application has quality, and it's fun to use. I've been sitting here trying to figure out theme songs for my favorite games and I'm having a blast listening to other people around the world too. Well done Smule, I look forward to buying your new applications in the future.

Out of breath. Cool app at the 99 mark. Devs please add a option for a blow on the mic button as I almost passout from blowin so much. A simple button that toggles on and off 4 continuous play

Amazing little instrument. There are several aspects to this app that are just too cool. The instrument itself that recognizes your breath is great! It's addictive and it is musical, so you can teach yourself or the young ones about music, or you can just enjoy playing a little ditty. The colours and the name of your instrument are fully customizable. And there is a social network of Ocarina's around the world that you can listen to and enjoy a VERY cool visualization. One of the best I've seen yet, and I have over 140 iPhone apps in my iTunes. I haven't tried your lighter app yet, guys, but I think you've really made something great here. For $0.99 I can definitely say that this app is really worth it and I think I will have this one on my phone for a long time and show it all my friends. Thanks so much Smule! You've made me smile!

Amazing Fun!. Very amazing very fun very money well spent you guys if you haven't bought this yet do it asap it's worth it

This is not just an "application", this is a complex and beautiful musical instrument. Being a big fan of the Zelda series, I was instantly intrigued by this app. I thought it might be a cute little toy to play with every now and then. But as soon as I downloaded it, I couldn't help but fire it up and start to "mess around". The gorgeous tone and amazingly accurate breath-sensitivity blew my mind right away. Which is when I knew I had to check out the Smule website and learn how to play this thing. I actually thought it would be a lot harder to get started, but soon found just how easy it really was. I watched 2 short videos to see how you're supposed to hold it and the proper finger-placement, and then I started playing user-submitted songs off the forum. The score generator makes it quick and easy to pick up and start playing a song, as you don't have to read music, just follow the simplified diagrams of which fingers to have covered for each step of the song. Within one minute I was playing songs that were actually recognizable by my fiancée in the other room. "Did you just play that? That was really good!" (She doesn't need to know how easy it was, I'll just let her keep thinking I'm a musical prodigy!) After spending the last few days playing my new instrument, I'm definitely hooked. This is now my favorite app to date, and I don't see it being unseated as the reigning champ any time soon. Requests for updates: On the website, having a "play" button which animates the score so you can hear it before you try to play it. On the Ocarina itself, having one button for the pitch/mode and a separate button for the rest of the settings so that changing the key is one step shorter. Thanks to the developers for creating such a great product! :)

Stunning.. I can't believe this is only 99 cents. Great, great fun.

Simply Amazing!. For the musical this 99 cent gem is a must have. Get it, learn it, play it - and know that others around the world (if you're on the net) can listen in. Or listen in yourself on others, in globe view, and experience a geeky, giddy delight. It's like listening to whale song. Way cool!

Fantastic app. I couldn't turn down the $0.99 price tag. Have been playing on and off and it's great! Sound is amazing, I just wish the acceptable sizes for the buttons were a bit larger because sometimes they can be missed. I love going to world mode, what a great idea! Fun to just listen to everyone else play!

Bad. This is bad just bad

Wow !!!!!!. Amazing app! Thank you Smule

very fun. I've played it all day today and am still playing it very fun app

Why four notes???. I like the app but I that it would be like magic piano that gives you song If they do that would be cool but I'm not sure I just got it

Electronic wood wind. Super fun creative cheap intuitive entertainment

Great fun. Possibly the best dollar I've ever spent... More instruments would be fantastic though...

Amazing. This application is amazing! There are so many songs you can play. Plus there are online tutorials that can help you.

A scam. The instrument itself is pretty good. The "listen to others around the world" feature seems to be fake. For example when I listen to " my melodies" it shows my name and where I'm from, but it plays songs i never played myself; so how do I expect to believe other people are playing what smule says they are if my own recordings are incorrect? Deserves a 1 for dishonesty and false claims of features. Hopefully others realize this.

Fabulous!. Way to go!

1 Word. Amazing!!

Amazing. Wow that's all I can sat

Simply amazing. Must have! it is so well done! The broadcast is so cool

Great Instrument!. Works very well and has a number of different settings useful for playing any number of songs. The website offers many songs to try which will help you learn how to play. I recommend this application to anyone looking to try out the ocarina as it's quite responsive and fun to use.

Great app with a great price.... Excellent application that works flawlessly. Well worth the price of 99¢. Maybe you could introduce a variety of sounds with later updates to this app? Keep up the good work.

Thanks smule. Amazing app!!! A must download for anyone!!!

Perfect union of avail resources. First app that I've felt compelled to review. A true creative leap ahead in leveraging the platform - all aspects (touch, gps/location, mic, xcel). Social network aspect is brilliant. Can't wait to attend (partipate in?) a group recital/concert!

this creation is unbelievable!!!!!111111. best part of it, you can go to their website where it shows you all the keys and submitted songs by ppl.

Amazing. This is really a great app. Fun and musical.

Great but has some problem :(. It works great at times but will randomly go very quite. It also still has some multi-touch issues. I will pressing down between 1-3 buttons and if I go to click another one it will sometimes un-click all of the buttons even if my fingers are still there :s

Well worth it!. Awesome app!!

Holy s..... Wow. Now that's an app! Worth every penny even at double the price. Well done.

Simply work.. This application work exactly as intended.

Amazing. For any Zelda fans, or just music lovers. This app is amazingly fun. There is tons of different octtives, and is supprisingly easy to play.

I love this app. Money well spent. Had many hours of fun so far. Very easy to Impress people with this one. I love Zelda with all my heart and this app let's me be alittle like Link!!!!!

Excellent application!. Well done guys

Orcarina. This app is worth way more than it is, it's really fun to use, and also very amusing! :)

Glad they updated it!. I was getting worried that the app wouldn't be compatible with future iOS updates but they updated the App for 7plus and the 7! Thanks for the update!!!

Breathtaking!!! Literally.. Whenever I show this app to people, including iPhone haters, their jaws drop. This is the type of app that makes the iPhone so unique and superior. Apple should totally give back their share of the earnings to the developer and reward with more. Just a suggestion, ability to record would be cool.

Perfect. this is a great app. Very easy to learn and utilizes many of the iphone capabilities. you will not regret purchasing this app. Nice work on creating a good Ocarina Community. Lots of songs and fingerings available on their site.

OMG!!! I need more stars to give it a better rating!!!. OMG!!! I downloaded this app today - I am as giddy as I was in grade 2 when they handed out the recorders!!! Just think of the multitude of music teacher's headaches that would be eliminated if they could hand out this app rather than the recorders!! This is the coolest app ever!! Go the website - there are so many songs that you can play immediately - you don't need to have talent!! Finally an instrument for the musically challenged!!

Great app. The ocarina is really fun to play and works really well. The globe where you can listen to other people playing is also a great addition. For 99c you can't really go wrong with this one.

Privacy invasion alert. Just another data harvesting app. Delete.

Musical note messaging service!. Instruments are truly about harmony and this app/instrument has it. You don't need to be a musician to play this. What is a musician anyway? This is just another way for people to express themselves. I was amazed to hear other players from around the globe. What a neat visualization too. This app is fantastic, and I think at the dollar mark you'll get more people playing this and sharing. the instrument works beautifully. Sensitive

So fun!!. This is just a fantastic app. It works well it's fun, it's creative and it's cheap. A lot of developers could learn from this. Well done smule

Change the way!. It’s a very cool game but I have one issue, it tells you to hold it the wrong way... And since you can’t flip the screen the other way, you can’t use it...

Most amazing iPhone app. This is honestly the coolest and most origional iphone app that I have ever seen, there is nothing like it.

Wow just wow. I love this app! Just being able to see who's all playing and where they generally are and to actually hear them play is wicked cool. This is a great app that shows what the iPhone can really do in bringing the people of the world together. I was amazed to hear people in Australia, Cuba, japan, etc play the ocarina. Highly recommended.

posting again. Wow really? - I mean this really is the best app.. it should COME with the iPhone, it's that good and professional. You can play an infinant amount of songs on it, say, as you can on a piano.. there are no limitations. A few glitches but nothing to where it's hard to play.. if your bugging that bad, it's YOUR FAULT, for hitting 2 buttons with ONE finger .. but I'm amazed at some of the people who have rose to heights like some ppl here in the USA like seige8, AEone, and LegitSauCe are 3 people I heard playing amazing songs at very fast speeds.. it shows the capabilities of this product

Blown Away by this App. It is so amazing what this app does. Even a non-musical person like me can learn this. I'm practicing Amazing Grace. I'm not there yet, but I'll get it eventually. I can't wait until the next instrument gets here. The leaf trombone is on its way. We'll just have to be patient until the 3.0 software arrives this summer. I have to say though that I can't believe someone with an ipod touch would buy this when it clearly states in the description that this is for the iphone only. I heard the ipod touch supports an external mike. Maybe the developers can work with that one soon. Kudos to the developers on this one. Well I have to go explore all the videos of people playing this thing and download some music. Good Luck to all of you budding musicians out there.

Great app.... this is a great app. it has awesome customization, and the worldview is quite a stunning feature. however, i cannot use it. I have an ipod touch 2g. The ipod touch 2g has the ability to use an external mic. but smule has limited this app to only iphone. there are no limitations, because i know a few people who had itunes confuse their ipod touch 2g for an iphone and were able to install this application. however, this has only happened to a limited few and this glitch is not recreatable. so until smule changes their minds about ipod touch compatibility while hundreds of thousands of ipod touch fans wait for the app they bought to actually work, this app deserves a one. i recommend all ipod touch users to do this also.

I'm gonna pass out! Really!. It makes you dizzy. If my mic doesn't go bad from all the blowing, I'll be surprised. Anyway, this cleaver little app is so annoying in so many ways. I can play a few tunes, but I can't record. You can't locate other players in your area. When looking at the global world of Ocarina players (keeping the world safe from Guinea Pigs, I'm sure), you can't control who you'll hear. You get a few seconds of a randomly selected stranger, and once you've heard enough to "vote" a heart for them, it changes to a new performer from Europe or Africa. The touch-screen accuracy is not so great, either. I'm a musician. This instrument is one step above rubber-bands or wine-glasses. Well, it was worth the 99 cents just to try it, I guess. Not recommended to the elderly.

Wonderful software to play with. But hard to get a good hold on the buttons.. So, the digital ocarina is an amazing little piece of new-age tech. Just a reminder of how the world continues to change and push forward towards the future. I love playing with this software! The application gives you a variety of tones to choose from, depending on what you would like to perform. I can not play any instruments, but this allows me to play a digital ocarina with ease. All it takes to play this digital instrument is a little patience and time to find a comfortable way to hold the ipod. I recommend this to anyone interested. You can't beat the price of the application as well.

Good, but held back.... I love the Ocarina; I won't lie about that. It makes me feel all happy and it reminds me of Zelda. But I have a few complaints; One.) Most of the app isn't made for the Retina display. It doesn't take from the experience...but it makes it seem pixelated, when this app seems like it should be more polished. Two.) Choose wether or not you have to blow into the mic. On older iPods, the mic isn't really there unless you buy it. The notes you played were based on the notes you touched; it would be a good idea to re-implement this feature for newer devices anyway. It would help for iPhone4S's that are having issues. I'm using a iPod Touch 4 32G, and I am not having any crashes or issues though, so keep up the good work.

Recording. The app has been amazing as long as I've been playing it, but when I tried to record, I found a few issues. First, you can't save you're song personally to you're iPhone. I think I am T-Payne shares this inability and saving as a video could be a good solution. Second, after it uploaded/ recorded, my song was reduced to 2 random notes. Please help with these problems in the next update. It's hard to remember all these songs. Update: It also thinks I'm in the ocean near Africa, and I can't delete music already uploaded. Kind of annoying because it uploaded everything I've played and practiced without me knowing.. Again: Sorry, but the favorite button isn't working for me either. This needs an update.

Great Electronic Instrument. This app does what it claims...and does it nicely! The developer did an excellent job in the recent update. Though, the original version did not give any problems. It's been great to learn to play it, too! All the features are great!! This app is worth the money, even if you're not into playing your iPhone as a musical instrument. Plus, the developer shows all the signs of supporting this app well into the future, hence a good investment. Excellent for songwriters and music composers needing that one extra element for their pieces! Keep up the good work, Smule! Look forward to the next update. :)

My Favorite Application So Far. Endlessly entertaining. It is like learning a real musical instrument but simpler. This app is like having many different ocarinas in one with its ability to choose from 8 modes and even more root pitches for each. The Smule forums offer tips, tutorials, and simple music notes specifically written for this app from countless other individuals, making it effortlessly easy for even the most musically-challanged to be able to play all of their favorite songs on their own ocarina. Nothing beats being able to play the theme to Ducktales on an ocarina!

Awesome. This is a fantastic app. Who else can say their phone is also an instrument into which they blow?! For a dollar it's a steal and well worth it. The clincher is the listening function where you can just listen to people all over the earth playing and actually see their dot on the globe.. Wonderful! Amazing grace is probably the easiest good song to play so try that first. Buy this app. And to the guy who ranted about geeks being the only ppl who would understand this.. Dude this is one of the most simple types of instruments ahead of a bongo. Also, are you iPod touch owners stupid!? Stop buying this! What do you want to blow into, the dock connector?! Headphones jack? How would that work? Stop voting this app 1 star because you were too dumb to read the description!

Soothe the Savage Breast. The most creative application for immediately finding an "oasis" within reach---anytime, anywhere. It's delightful, charming and witty. I carefully chose a name for mine so it feels like a friend. I use it to stave off those sneaky moments when you feel like the day's hassles are about to overtake you. Just simply blowing into the Ocarina puts the daily madness on the back burner. Finally, you know those manic people who use the public bathroom stalls for their personal cellphone booths to talk about business deals? Try sitting in one and playing the Ocarina, instead. The conversations go away. It's the best!

This is a great app!. I have practiced using this alot lately!! Its pretty awesome. Just a thought tho. How come when Im playing a song and I put my phone upside down and it makes this wierd.... thing I cant explain. Its cool for some songs tho and dont change it I like it! Its like this pond ripple affect but instead of the visual effect on the antenna thing, its a sound effect. Like the volume are continously going down and up in a pattern. Great app tho. I have only experienced one problem with the recording once. I recorded and recorded the high note [where you dont touch any hole( or what I used is the button on the top left on touch mode )] And speaking of which, Im trying to put Touch Mode off and it says off and I still cant blow on it

I love this to death!. I love my ocarina so much that I play it quite a bit for over an hour at a time! Usually after about 45 minutes it gets so hot it just shuts down. I took my i-phone into Apple to have it checked because it wasn't charging properly and they said "oh no. you have gotten it wet!" I have been extremely careful with it! Then I thought wow, when I play my flute I have to clean it out after an hour from all the humidity in my breath. It is drenched inside. That must be happening to my Ocarina. I haven't been able to get confirmation on this and the Apple Store was unable to get confirmation from Ocarina either but it is something to think about and be concerned about. I am so sorry it is happening as I really love to play it! My i-phone is way too new for these problems and now that it has signs of moisture in it, the warranty is gone!

Kikanus. After I waisted .99 on sonic boom I swore I would never buy another smule product. I lied to myself. After reading about 100 strait rave reviews and me being a musician I decided to give this one a chance. The verdict, this app is the s--t. If you already have played wind instraments you'll pick this up in seconds. It's far more accurate than other flute type apps i've tried. I mean you could actually be the guy in the band that plays the phone! No joke. Bottom line, the only people who will enjoy this are human beings so if your a human this apps made especially for you.

Fantastic instrument, but needs one minor tweak for the new touch mode. Spent hours playing this today after buying it. Best 99 cents i've spent on an app so far in the app store. I couldn't get the hang of blowing through the microphone, so switched to the new touch mode. I'm not too skilled I guess, so when two or more of my fingers leave the surface of the screen not exactly at the same time to switch to another note, a "blip" sound is produced. It'll be great if there is a "newbie" switch in the app for it to filter out these unintentional blip sounds.

Everyone must get. This app works amazing. It's easy to learn and works just like a 4 hole ocarina. It feels easy and I like the touch only option because the iPod gen 5 does not have a mic near the bottom to blow like an ocarina. Just a thought, however. I think it would be nice if there were holes you could press to the side to play higher octaves, because it can only go so high which makes it impossible to play certain songs (I realize that's just the way 4 hole Ocarinas are) I would definitely by an app for a six hole ocarina. But all in all, it's definitely amazing and worth the dollar.

It seems great to me.... I'm not sure what the people were expecting who gave this poor reviews. This app works well and sounds good. That alone is worthy of 5 stars for a buck app but it is even better because you can change it to any key imaginable to jam out with other people, record email and download your recordings, post them on a map for others to listen to and rate, and listen to other people's creations. If you are musically inclined you can probably just dive in but if you aren't the app comes with an excellent tutorial that makes it super easy to learn. Another cool thing is how you can go to their site to get sheet music. Best dollar that I've spent in a long time! Hope an update will allow people on the map to jam live!

Well done, well done indeed.. I've never felt compeled to write a review before. This is the first time I've seen a app at 5 stars and it sounded interesting so for $.99 what the heck. Well, I'm blown away (no pun intended). I'm not very good at making music with it, and i'll probably never put in the time to be good, but its fun play with. What really got me was watching the globe spin around to different people and listening to people around the world. It honestly made me stop and think what an amazingly connected world we are in. You're listening to someone blowing in their iPhone in japan then France then Ohio etc.

Wow.. Beautiful UI. This is the first app I've seen that really pushes the boundaries of what the iPhone can be - and makes the phone aspect of the device seem secondary to everything else it can do. My only complaint is that, not being well versed in music theory, the different 'modes' aren't well explained. And it would be interesting to be able to alter the tone to sound like an instrument other than what sounds suspiciously like a pan flute. Being able to hear, in real time, what someone is playing on the other side of the globe is also quite cool. Smule's social networking approach to their software really adds an interesting layer to their offerings. This is definitely the most creative app I've seen so far.

Brilliant idea!. As a clarinet and flute player, I love Ocarina. This app not only works perfectly (I've played an excellent rendition of Still Alive from Portal for all to hear via the music available for this app!) but allows you to listen to others play and for them to listen to you. Ocarina is by far one of my very favorite iPhone apps and the ability to customize the colors and change the sound and pitch of the instrument only makes it better. I can't wait for more songs to be translated to this format. This app is worth much more than a mere 99 cents. Get it and play music for yourself and everyone!

Shows Potential Of The iPhone. Played my first song within 5 minutes and sounded great! Showed the app off at a local bar and became a Rockstar. Had people wanting to try it and purchase their own iPhone. Website and forums were extremely helpful with sheet music and videos. Even a non musician can follow the sheet music and sound awesome. The globe view was a great bonus listening to others play their Ocarina all over the world in real time. This app is great for gadget junkies who really want to show off what their iPhone can do. Beat that Blackberry!

Huge Downgrade. This same app used to be offered with songs that you could play to, in a sort of guitar hero way in which you had to match the patterns to create the right sound. There are no songs to select anymore. It's a shame since there used to be some Legend of Zelda songs which I really enjoyed playing. However, at the time, I had purchased the app with an older Apple ID that I had on my old iPhone 5, and one day it just stopped working. It would not let me select any songs, then it would crash. I purchased it a few days ago with a new Apple ID on my current iPhone 6, and this app is a huge downgrade. I am seriously disappointed, and it is definitely not even worth $.99. I really would have like to play this app as it was before.

Practice and you shall be rewarded.. Smule Ocarina is an innovative program that's also an utter delight, and I get a feeling a lot of the low scores for this application are coming from users who are unwilling to practice. I love this application, and I am not a musical person by any means: I started out sounding horrible, but with the help of scores from the Smule forums and taking time, I have improved exponentially and can now play several songs well. It's rapidly become my favorite application, and I look forward to playing it, practicing new songs, and listening in on what other users are playing every day.

Cool Idea. While no electronic copy of an instrument ever compares to the real thing, I found this Ocarina application really fun. The tone is surprisingly realistic and pleasant. I like the fact that your own breath blowing across the microphone of the phone inititates the sound. The graphics connected to the application are fun. It's cool to be able to choose different keys for your ocarina to play in, and better yet to be able to play various modes. Although there may be several fingerings for individually made ocarinas, the fingering for the scale on this application feels "standard" to me. I was so excited to find this application that seems made just for people like me who are musically driven. How cool to be able to play my iPhone!

Coolest app i've found!. This is the coolest app I've found so far. Great job developers who thought outside the box and managed to use the features of the iphone and come out with something really unique! It's very easy to use and highly addictive. The feature that allows us to listen to other ocarina players around the world is really neat too! The forum that allows people to share music scores really made it even more fun way to practice! The one thing I would love to have though would be a key modifier as I find it quite hard to find the perfect note sometimes since there are only four "buttons". Hopefully there will be updates sometime soon :)

Unbelievable. How do they come up with this. For those of you looking to buy this you should go to the website and view the sheet music - it will get you playing very quicky. It is cool to be able to see everyone around the world who is using the app and listen to them. 5 stars is due. I would like the ability later to select someone who is playing and listen, a friend. Right now - it shuffles users around the world. A must buy. They turned the iPhone into an actual instrument and not just a small piano keyboard or drum set.

Amazing app! A definite must buy!. I myself am an iPod Touch user, but that honsetly doesn't make a difference. I love this app and I use it all the time. But it's definitely true that it takes talent to make a song using the ocarina. Then again it takes talent to make a song using ANY instrument. So if you only want this app to make your own songs I probably wouldn't recommend it. If you want to have fun and play music that people have found out the notes for, then I definitely recommend this app.

Allows User-Created Music!. If you go to their website listed in the application itself, they have a forum dedicated to users posting their created sheet-music of various songs! They have software in place within the forum to generate music based on the key and "mode" (Ionian, Zeldarian, etc) you want it in! I've spent the last hour playing a version of Zelda someone posted on the forums, and adding my own little flourishes to it! Holding the iPhone straight causes a straight pitch, and the degree to which you tilt your iPhone adds vibrato! An absolute STEAL at $.99!

It was good but could be improved. Ok first I would like to make a few points 1. The mic It is near the camera why else do u think there would be a pinhole right next to the camera genuises and for all those poeple who say the mic is at the bottom left unplug ur headphones and play something and listen to it! when the last time you've heard a mic blasting music? its called a speaker 2. touch mode "i can only play 4 notes!" you know there's something that the ipod touch offers? its called multi touch! Ive tried out touch mode and unless your simultaneously letting go of the notes/ pressing the notes together different note will be played before/ after you play 3. dont play with it for a while I have to say holding up the ipod for while isnt conftorable take the advice and put the ipod down and relax your fingers and hand and for me the ipod starts slipping in my hand so I hit the wrong notes I would suggest you get it now while its free to try it out if u dont like it then delete it at least you didnt waste money on it

Superb... BUT. It uses a lot of battery life and this notice keeps popping up that says I can't use this w/ my phone!! EDIT: oh my gosh.. I just went online for some music and wow!!! I would pay 5$ for this app!!! Ridiculous.. And listening to people online?!? Wow! I wish you could like form a friend list though and invite people to listen or even play together!! That would be great.. Really really really great!! EDIT: ok the battery life thing is killing me!! I play it way too much for the battery to drain like this!! And can I please not run it on airplane mode without having that dumb notice interupting me? I'm sorry but it could use some help with that.

Guitar-App Killer. The iPhone doesn't lend itself well to guitar apps if you have the hands of a normal human being. Iif you purchased one intending to mess around and play some music on it you might have been really disappointed. However, this simple, well designed app actually makes it feasible to play songs without frustration. It really is more of an instrument and less of a gimmicky ripoff application. What would make it better... How about key changes during play, possibly with a swipe of the finger? Otherwise get this app, worth a dollar for sure.

I don't like blowing all the time. ...Some of us are "non" blowers :). While this is cool at first, I don't think it's a good idea to be "blowing into" the speaker of my iphone. ...If you play a real ocarina, you know that spit accumulates in your ocarina, and you have to "rinse it out" periodically. ...Now that being said, it is novel and fun to blow into it, but I would like an option to not have to blow, so that I could just play it with my fingers. Besides, is anyone feeling a little "light headed?" I am... So I hope "Smule" will grant me this wish, as I did pay a buck for this little app, and would like to play it more than I do. ...Oh, and I hope they improve the sound of the Ocarina, it sounds too much like a keyboard. It needs to sound like on the "Legend of Zelda" game!

Amazed!. This app is one of the best I have downloaded so far. Not only is the idea and execution wonderful but what most people are not talking about is the ability to listen to what other people are playing around the world!! That has been a really nice thing to do. Hats off to the developers of this product. The only odd thing I have found so far is that sometimes pressing one button causes another button to release for no apparent reason. I am sure they will sort that out. You will not be sorry you bought this app. Make sure you search the world and hear what others are playing…

soon we'll all b connected. Imagine symphonies with musicians across the world playing in time and in real time. Genius absolutely amazing. My colleagues drop their jaws when I ended my phone call and began to play my iphone sounding like a virtuoso. I played it for one of my depressed patients who I made smile and then laugh, it tickled her so. She asked me to play some more cause it made her smile. There are miracles at work with this little program. I can't thank you enough. Soon everyone will now about it, so hurry and surprise your friends. You may even get a promotion out of it. People are just truly amazed when they see you play your phone. New Musical instruments, new scales, new names, new finger patterns, it's simply outrageously funtastic!

Absolutely brilliant. I usually buy applications, use it for a while and then get bored and either delete it or just leave it in my phone. Only apps I still use are the ones that can help me with day to day stuff like finances, shopping or car fuel tracking. But this one just blew me away as soon as I started using it. I don't know whether there is already an app that uses the way this one does with speaker and accelerometer and multitouch. But what a great implementation of a great idea. Good thing is people post notes in their forum and so you don't really need to know musical notes that well to learn songs. This is a great buy for me and anyone who loves music(who isn't) and want to play songs on their own even though they don't have any musical training.

Amazing!!!. This app is smart, beautiful, fun and the fact that there is a website were people can upload songs chords or scales is amazing in it's own right. I know nothing about playing instruments (I fiddle with pocketguitar and mini piano) but so far I can tell this will be app that blows all other instruments away. Ge'ez I failed the AWESOME globe feature!!!! That is a masterpiece by itself. For a person in their early 30's this is all Buck Rodgers too me. It has a very scifi feel and I love it!!!!! If I could rate it higher I would.

Wonderful. I have found that I use up all my battery playing this! I discovered it while playing around with an iPhone in the AT&T store, then once I got my Touch it was the first app I looked up, and I was so happy to find that it worked on the Touch. Very, very easy to use and I recommend checking out the website; there are so many songs posted there that you can play, and you don't need to read music to play them. (I should know. I don't read music.) A definite 5 stars for me.

Great App! Needs More Songs Provided By Smule Though!!!. This app is great, the sound and almost everything is wounderful. I've only had the app for a few days though, and already one of the bad things I have discovered about this app, is that it seems like you guys fully rely on us to add songs for others to learn and play from. If we are buying the app, I think you guys should be providing most of the songs, and well as others. I myself don't know how to make songs by reading music for my Ocarina, so I have to rely on others posting theirs. Which is fine, but not all the time are the songs published correct, so you search and search until you find someone who made the song correctly, which takes forever. So I think you guys should at least fix the songs that are added. Please look into this, thank you!

This is just unfair....D:<. Ok, so here it is: I look and see that it isn't compatible with the touch...in desperation, I go to the smule website and what do you know? In the forums they supposedly "say" to bring Ocarina to the touch in a couple of weeks, and so, I buy it ( in the excitement!) Three weeks later, I go back to the site to check on the hold up and I found out that they may almost NEVER make it compatible! >:O I'm just thinking, are you kidding me? It's not that I care about the refund or anything, but it's just the concept of the alleged "promise." It gets odder, you know that demo video they have? The guys playing Ocarina with an TOUCH! Isn't that just the craziest thing, and it's not they can't do the conversion, it's just that they WON'T! Right now, I'm just infuriated...whoever agrees with me, click yes!

the app to buy an iphone or i pod touch for!!!!!. the concept of this app was what made me want to check it out. the reviews sounded good. and the app didn't live up to the expectations..... they exceeded them!!!! This is the thing i show people when they wanna see my ipod touch. it truly is an amazing app. i have went to the website and found some songs to learn to play (not all translate well to this instrument) and found i love it more than before. i'd love a way to adjust the volume some. the only real issue i have (and the only reason i didnt give it 5 stars) is some times when i launch app. it says i have music or a call going and i have to load my music play then pause then go back to app. minor issue but frustrating when your trying to show someone this amazing app.

Ah-mazing. I have to say this is by far the best deal I have had with iTunes. I have this for the iPod Touch 2nd gen and it works perfectly! There's no lag, issues, or just... Anything that is wrong with it. With all of the different styles of the Ocarina and base notes, you'll never get bored. It's perfect for Zelda fans and all others who would like to play it. My favorite function is listening to others playing all around the world. I don't regret this buy one bit! So go ahead and buy it! You won't regret either.

Random Connections!!!!. this is by far my favorite app on my iphone !!! first off the instrument is soo interesting and sounds really great, second of all yu can custom every thing from color, key, pitch, modes rott notes so on, and finally the fact that you can listen to the melodies from around the world. Youll be sitting with this app and all of a sudden a beam comes up from a location some where on earth and a random someone plays you a beautiful song. For 99cents i honestly cannot see why any rgith minded person wouldnt want this

Another unique entry by smule. I'm loving it. Smule has released the second of what I hope is a series of unique instruments to add to a growing arsenal of audio apps for the iPhone. I have always been intrigued by the ocarina. Now I have a chance to learn it. I love the flexibility to change keys and musical modes, allowing you to play along with anyone. There does seem to be an odd error causing the app to drop certain finger pushes. I contacted them about the error through the in-app contact button and they responded later that evening saying they are working on a fix.

Must have!!. If you have an iPhone, this app is a must have!! At first I was like is that even possible... No way! Turns out it does work and you and your friends will be amazed. If you own an iPod touch my advice would be don't even get it, its not as fun as using an iPhone trust me i own an iPhone and iPod touch and it's just not the same thing.! Save yourself a Dollar. One cool feature is that if you are conected to the Internet via wi fi or edge you can hear what people are playing around the world, it's like having google earth but with music coming out of countries were people play their tunes. Kinda cool..

Addicting.. The Ocarina app is one of my most used apps. It's fun, and easy to play. I admit, I am a complete dummy when it comes to music; I can't read or understand notes on a music sheet at all. The Ocarina app is ideal for me. I get to play music, since the songbook on the Smule website makes it easy to understand. Not only that, but the Ocarina app has the ability to change the mode of the ocarina. (ex: From Ionian to Zeldarian) Its much better than having to go out and buy other variations of ocarinas. Now, I'm able to play my favorite Zelda tunes wherever I go. :D

Great app...two requests. Wonderful use of the iPhone, although the responsiveness and robustness of the "keys" is a bit lacking when trying to play anything relatively quickly. I would LOVE to see a version of this using the fingerings of an Electronic Wind Instrument (EWI). This is similar to trumpet fingerings with 3 keys, but uses various other keys to determine in which harmonic partial each primary fingering is (very intuitive if the description isn't). Also, I expected to hear sound through the headphones when I plug them in, but that doesn't seem to work on my phone. Thanks.

Don't miss it!. A nice app already, the potential that smule has is amazing, the core application is not instrument specific, so expect more instruments in time. Also with only 4 touchpoints there is a 16 note limitation, soon to be changed to the iphone/ipod 5 maximum, allowing for 25 notes. The social aspect is very neat so far, but underdeveloped. Expect more changes in that as well in future releases. The battery drain is the only drawback. That is more of the iphone's microphone drain (as if being on call the whole time) than software though. Not to be missed!

Load of Fun. First off...yes, I am a HUGE Zelda fan. Now that I have that out of the way... Simply put, this app delivers exactly what I would expect from an app of this sort. It (usually) plays very well, with the limitation being the skill and/or talent of the operator. There is a wide assortment of music available on Smule's website. Also, it's easy for me to play despite being a drummer, who also has no wind instrument experience. If you're like me in that you enjoy music, enjoy playing music, and have just a bit of patience, then I believe you will likely find yourself enjoying this app as well.

An Application that can go further!. I have not gotten a chance to try this application out. I bought this app at first because I had thought I could use it for my ipod touch. But due to the lack of microphone, I am unable to use it. So what if it were possible to change it so, if you had a microphone equipped to the touch, you could be able to play. A simple solution which could bring in a lot more, due to the fact that touch users could experience this wonderful app. I give 5 stars due to the beautiful, intricate, and simple design that turned a phone into a musical instrument!

Smule Has Truely Hit Gold. With their latest invention Smule delivers a unique musical experience. The hypnotic, soothing hymns created here deliver an experience worth checking out even for those thoroughly familiar with ocarinas of the non-cellular variety. However, Smule did manage to create an authentic enough experience to thrill players everywhere; and this is definitely a cheaper alternative to the real thing. The ability to listen to other players from across the globe, and them in turn to you, was a nice touch and shows real love on Smule's part for their instrument. Ocarina is proof that you don't need to pay a great price for a great app.
