Lost use of pdf functions since the last update. Once the latest version was installed we can no longer use the download invoice function. We used to be able to print the invoices but now the invoice opens and you can’t do anything. You have to force quit the app to go back.

User friendly. User friendly and great with reporting, worth all the fees because it’s cohesive and easy

Expensive. Square is very expensive

Latest Update bug. The latest update has caused my scanner to not scan items in the cart even though it’s reading that it’s connected. I have to exit out of the app and reopen it after nearly every sale to make it work right . So irritating.

Scammed. I have made several attempts since March 14th, 2023 to have a support representative contact me regarding a paid invoice and bank transfer that was pending transfer to my account and now is no longer showing in my activities My account had a suspicious bank account appear AFTER an invoice was paid and now I have NO way to get in contact with a representative to track where my money went. This isn’t the forum nor should I have to come to this drastic measure! I have emailed and waited beyond the requested 24 hrs. Spoke with the chat robot with no resolution and I need assistance. Please assist

Gets Worse and Worse…. I’m leaving this 1-star review because Square’s servers have been down most of the day today (9/7/23) and I’ve been unable to process payments. This has cost me hundreds of dollars today which is unacceptable!

Pointless. It’s not giving me the option to accept cards, why did I spend my money on a reader when the app only lets me check out customers with cash, there’s no card option.

New format. Why do you keep changing my format? I find it very confusing? It’s just is not my cup of tea. I think I have an. I have a friend who helps me deal with it. Sorry I’m 75 years old and it just keeps getting harder as things change.

Taking Inventory is a Nightmare. There’s a huge issue with the items tab that makes taking inventory a headache and a half. Whenever you exit an item page it snaps back to the top of the screen, forcing you to scroll down to your position after correcting each individual item. Furthermore, in larger categories, it will randomly snap to the top of the screen while scrolling down making it even more of a nightmare to deal with. Most of the rest of the issues I have with the app are negligible inconveniences, but this is something that seriously needs to be fixed ASAP.

So excited! Amazing Everything!. Square has helped me grow my business from the ground up! This company is amazing! It really has helped me take everything to the next level! So excited about this app! It’s going to make things even better! Btw... you may have a wait time when calling in for help but when you get in they bend over backwards to help you! Thank you square!!! I also want to thank you for helping keeping my business alive during covid! I really don’t think I would be here if it wasn’t for you! Square is 5 stars all the way!!

Pretty Coooooooooool!. My mom owns a business at the collective market place in bay shore, for skin and hair care, and we were having trouble finding something to cash with. This was perfect.

So grateful for this app. If not for this app I would be loss wish it was a little less expensive but the feature is so user friendly. Things are not always the best but you can always fix it.

Unreliable at best. Square readers and scanners replaced multiple times in the first 12 months of being open. Software regularly updated during the Christmas holiday which is extremely annoying.

Converting data. The database is not normalized. Have a 100 items with 10 colors, then you must create 1000 items with separate SKU’s.

Expected More. I hope they are still working on more bugs. I expected a lot from this app especially for it being for retail businesses that have a lot of inventory. We have found a glitch in the system that we had manually put in an item that have three sizes which we made as three variations. The barcode was not working even though the numbers were entered correctly. It is very frustrating for a business to trust that the information is getting inputted and then it doesn’t work!!! I hope they listen to what there customers are saying!

Latest Update has Issues. Since the last update, my mobile app is not syncing w online product library as it used to…stock photos not importing to my site if uploaded from retail app - holding up business, please fix!

User Friendly but buggy. Having same GTIN issues when adding new inventory. This has been reported by numerous businesses. In addition, today the vendor button disappeared in the in edit item pages. We need an update to fix these issues ASAP

Extreme Poor Customer Service. Do not use square! First of all trying to speak to anyone is extremely difficult and who has all day to sit on a phone and wait to have your call answered and then when I do get to speak to someone I can’t understand them! For months and months my bank account keeps coming unlinked to my Square account and Square is unable to correct the problem nor do they care! I’ve been on the phone numerous times and it’s like running around in circles! I’m just so frustrated and over it all anything that causes this much stress isn’t worth it!

Too many changes.. Everything great, then it gets buggy. App not properly tested before each release. Gets fed up with all the changes. Just make it work and stop changing things all the time.

Deactivates Your Account on First Use!. After first trial use, following the tutorial I get an email saying my account has been deactivated. Called them and still no answer as to why, they hide behind ‘we can deactivate for any reason whenever we want’ STAY CLEAR OF SQUARE!!

Powerful but a bit buggy on occasion. Recent upgrades have made this frustrating in some ways especially on Retail a register itself but some of the same bugs have carried over

Still haven’t fixed the favorites issue.. Unfortunately unable to edit favorites in the new user interface on iPhone. Have to revert back to the old ui.

Does not take Sales Orders. If your business does special orders for customers, don’t get this software. The software has no ability to take deposits on special orders. They force you to email invoices that square charges you extra for. Your customers will only be able to pay balances online and not in-store, which is ridiculous. Also, entering new skus “items” is clunky and time consuming. They do not use a size matrix to enter inventory. Shoe stores beware.

Too many buttons. We have used square for many years, and need some of the inventory tracking and reports that point of sale offers. Our operation has the need to have several open carts at a time. This app requires too much back and forth, saving, two step cart opening. Very annoying.

Fraudulent Warning never use this service!!!. Used SQUARE for a handful of charges with a tenant. Since then my tenant is no longer my tenant…. The funds were illegally held by square, after they uprooted 2 families, they still held the large amount and lied about making it available to either side… this is a miserable processs to go through. Don’t subject yourself or your business to this !!!!

Purchase orders. When creating a purchase order on the iPad, maximum items don’t show up, let’s say you have a Cabernet Sauvignon section and you have 200 of them, only 100 will show up, rest will not.

Easy to use. A must have

Only get to try it once in a lifetime. I tried this when it was first launched, and was not impressed last week I thought I would try it again, was told I cannot have a free trial as I have already tried it once, still not impressed.

Lack of Support. We cannot get our account manager to ever respond. Once they have you committed, you’re just a number. Also, during the sales process, they tell you they can give you any report you ask for but something as simple as “sales by supplier” cannot be generated.

Awesome app for business. Just starting up business and this app helped me a lot since I have no idea at all on how to work on inventory, pricing and sales etc. thanks for Square I can do business in a very convenient way.

Update Broke it!!. They were either hacked or their update has completely crippled our selling operation this week. Customer service has no ETA for fix and we cannot use our Square for retail system as nothing scans and the Square register system shuts off and restarts every couple transactions. Poor communication to their customers with no short term resolutions. They will still take their fees and charge us for their service however!

Making my world better. So many challenges in a business. This makes inventory management and sales easy.

Beware of Square. Our small general store used Square for 18 months with not one instance of a card dispute or chargeback. Received an email one day that our account was deactivated for violating their policies, but no specific infraction was listed. Apparently they can just cancel you at their whim. We were unable to reach anyone by phone and a follow up email response stated they could not give a specific reason. We now use TransNational Payments and have great customer service and lower fees!

Convenient. I just received a bunch of inventory which made my life so much easier! I Auto Created and boy does that save some thinking time! I’m loving it!

Issues With Returns. Since the new update, the returns option no longer works. Every time you try to process a return, the system says update required. But I have updated all software to the latest version of Square, yet still, I am told that I cannot process returns until the update is installed.

Square,why did you deactivate my account?. So I don’t usually write reviews but seriously square?? My business is just starting to get off on its feet and I went to withdraw money and you deactivate my account??? How is your decision final if you haven’t contacted me to try to fix the issue. I suggest everyone who is thinking about getting square for their small business to look elsewhere. Who knows when they will release my funds. Please learn from my mistake.

Stories and Songs business. It is very great for my mom and dad’s business

Reports. The register end of Retail is great, functions very well. My staff find it easy to use. The reports aren’t exactly what I need, so I have to do a lot of exporting to excel and rearranging information. For instance, I need a report that shows me BOTH quantity I’ve sold of an item AND quantity on hand. That’s how I can easily figure out how many of an item to re-order. I have to export both files into excel spreadsheets, and then combine them using v look up so I have that information. I truly wish you had that information in one report. Thank you!

My scanner is not working properly. I need tutoring of how my scan works, because now it got disconnected

Square. It’s a good system, easy to use and helpful to keep track. But the fees are to high, paying a fee per transaction plus another to transfer to the bank when we need it right away.

Could use a few more features. This app works great, need to add a sell by weight feature and the loyalty program $1 spent earn 1 point should allow you to exclude certain categories.

As soon as a better alternate comes I will leave. I’ve been a Square customer for over 11yrs and in the last 3 yrs I have received nothing short of terrible customer service, terrible product and no one who is willing to work with me. Almost every other month service goes down on Saturday’s which is our main day in retail. When I’ve called, either I’m Told to “restart” the device or just wait out their technical mishaps. After all the back and forth, I was given $3000 in free Processing. This is a multi million dollar Company that formed its back bone on small businesses like mine and today is giving me the worst service.

Adding inventory is broken. Support useless. Adding items to the inventory with “Receive stock” feature in the “Inventory” tab fails. GTIN validation is broken completely. Support doesn’t understand when this is reported and hangs up. The app is functionally not working. Support doesn’t understand how the app works in any office. It was a surprise to the support staff that the “Receive stock” feature exists at all. It’s clear Square doesn’t understand how retail in general or their own applications work. Impossible to inform them either.

Need line item discounts to show up on receipts!!!!!. Please!!!! I’m going to have to ditch this system because our customers question their discounts—not good for building a great customer experience!

UPDATED: Finally can reinstall it and it works!. I finally was able to reinstall the app and it’s working great.

OK, With Voiceover Annoyances. I use Retail for iPad with voiceover active. Square works well enough for me to run my store, but it has some problems, and those combined with Square's not so great accessibility policy irritate me greatly. Elements formatted as lists won't read aloud with voiceover. A good example of where to find some of these are on the pages listing hardware for sale. Items with multiple options aren't sellable with voiceover, if items are sold manually rather than scanned at the register. The screen to select which option to sell won't come up at all. Square's policy on accessibility bugs wastes hours of time, each time a new issue comes up. They will not look into it until the app user, in this case myself, contacts Apple and has them confirm that the problem isn't an issue with the screen reader itself. They require a chat transcript and ticket number in order to consider looking into accessibility bugs within their apps.

App is great device…needs improvement. Spent $50 on the device which does not want to work. I recommend simply ditching the hardware and only using the app:) save ur money and time

6.35.2 major step backwards in useability. Overall the square for retail app has functioned well for us. However, this latest update just made applying a discount a lot more cumbersome. Previously, to apply a discount meant swiping the item name listed in the cart part way across the screen to reach the “apply discount” menu. Choose the discount to apply, hit save and move on. This new version requires us to tap on the name; tap on discounts (from a list of 4 or 5 other choices); tap on the discount; tap on save; tap on save again; and finally move. A lot of extra tapping to get the same results. It has lengthened the checkout process considerably and having extra choices in the mixes has caused some confusion. I’d like to see a change log with reasoning behind such changes

Beware. We are a local store and just woke up to the news that our account is Deactivated out of nowhere, no customer service no answer, no even one dispute or charge back on our history! Stay away… shame on square

Not available in Japan. Loved the software during trial. Only wished it worked in Japan. When will this be available.

Good System. Good Quick overview of sales transaction. Lacks some functionality that would make it truly 5 star. Simple example the ability to drill down into a transaction by clicking on the item.

Unfulfilled Experience. Retail Point Of Sale. RETAIL. POINT OF SALE. Why does an app, specifically named “Retail Point Of Sale”, default to a menu for order fulfilment options ON EVERY ITEM, FOR EVERY SALE. The clue is very much in the name - this is meant to be for retail sales, at that moment. I can’t believe I have to specify that every single item is for an immediate sale when I add them to the order - if a client wants to purchase 5 items, it takes a minimum of 5 taps PER ITEM to get them in the cart - and that’s without factoring items sold by weight. Have an option to change the fulfilment settings of orders, that’s fine, but by default it should be assumed that an item sold via a RETAIL POINT OF SALE app is being sold in store.

Epic. Love this app

Useless app will not be using. Tired to sign up and verify my identity to take card payments. Gave them my drivers license and medicare cared and then they said i was not approved to make card payments. Useless app and will not be using this for my business as i can’t do card payments. (the reason i got square) thank god i didn’t buy the reader yet..

Will terminate account without notice or communication. Square's mobile payment service is an absolute nightmare wrapped in a facade of convenience. They boast about helping businesses accept card payments in person, but what they conveniently omit is their penchant for terminating accounts without so much as a courtesy warning. Imagine waking up to find your account axed, your funds held hostage, and Square shrugging its shoulders with a flimsy excuse about contractual obligations. Their customer service is a joke—they hide behind vague language, citing their agreements with card networks and financial institutions as an impenetrable shield against accountability. They'll gladly sit on your hard-earned cash for months, regardless of whether it amounts to a modest sum or a small fortune stretching into the six figures. In short, steer clear of Square unless you enjoy financial Russian roulette with your business's livelihood. Their arbitrary decisions and lack of transparency are a recipe for disaster. Not only does Square's abrupt termination of accounts and withholding of funds wreak havoc on businesses, but the lack of assistance or transparency when it comes to potential fraud or stolen identity allegations further complicates matters. They leave customers in the dark, unable to defend themselves or rectify any misunderstandings, all while their livelihood hangs in the balance. It's a toxic blend of incompetence, indifference, and opacity that should serve as a cautionary tale for anyone considering using their services.

Not legit. Accidentally downloaded this app and tried to delete it as I found the original square app I use.. problem is i cannot remove this app off the page of my original… looks scam looks not legit

Great POS. Easy to use system, but for a small business with only one location it’s a shame that important functions such as being able to record a supplier is only available on the costly Retail PLUS version.

Cannot connect to square terminal. The previous version can. The page on beta version isn’t detailed enough for me to follow. I recommend to update the instructions for how to join beta version.

app is missing asian app store. app has been pulled out the philippine apple store. any timelines when will it come back?

Bugged. Some articles sticks with modifiers. Can’t remove them even if they are not on the rest of the platform.

Great. Need capability to print gift receipts

Need proper update notes. Square has been completely ignoring the importance and value of telling us what each app update includes. They use the same boilerplate text with every update. This needs to change!

Can’t connect to reader since update 5.72. Great app but can’t connect to reader on iPhone app since updating to 5.72. Repeatedly get the ‘update the app’ message. Reader failed to connect. So frustrating. When it works, it’s fantastic.

Microphone??? Why?. My phone doesn’t have a headphone Jack so you don’t need access to my audio. Fix this, I’m not giving permission.

Terrible connection. I have been using this app and square reader for over a year now and it just has so many connection issues. I got this so my clients could have the convenience of using their card but there is no convenience when the device randomly wont connect. Not even for just a few minutes. This will go on for hours or the entire day. When I first started having this problem Square’s support said buy their Gen 2 device. So I did. Made no difference. I have disconnected all other blue tooth devices. I have gone through their steps to get it to connect so many times. I have uninstalled and reinstalled their app. I have tried multiple square apps. I have tried reaching out multiple times. I even have someone I know in IT try and help me figure it out. The Square tap / insert reader just wont stop bugging out and not connecting. It’s always a “ reader issue “. I have tried and tried to make it work but I think I’m going to go to Clover or a similar service. Square just isn’t convenient for me. Instead of getting pay from my clients, I have to send them an invoice and hope that they pay me later. My clients are good people thank goodness but I don’t need that type of risk and stress in my life. If it works for you I am so happy for you. But if you experience this issue too and have tried everything, know you are not alone.

No Abiliy to Process Returns. We were sold this software on the premise that we would have the ability to process returns. At last. After several hours and credit card information were surrendered, we discovered that the feature that had sold us on this upgrade was "Still in Engineering." Very disappointed, Square, that you are listing, and taking money for, features as available, which are actually still in development. Very unprofessional.

Update. What are you people thinking. The new updated system is garbage. Undo this and make it as the Army say’s KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!!!

Do Not Inquire About Selling CBD. I requested an inquiry to sell CBD via Square. After reading their rates and looking at the information they were requesting, I changed my mind. Their so called “application for selling CBD” isn’t something you can choose to not to fill out. Square SUSPENDS your account and flags it as suspicious activity if you don’t completely submit the information on their application. The Support Team will not give you the right information. It took me 4 calls before I could speak to a supervisor. I was put on hold for over an hour to wait for said supervisor. Meanwhile Square Compliance kept sending me no-reply emails without sufficient navigation information stating time periods where they would complete this “review” in 24-48 hours in one email and 1-2 business days in another email. I don’t know about your business but my business is open on weekends and most holidays. By the end of this experience I learned that by just inquiring about the selling CBD via square that someone on their end designated my account as a CBD seller and that I had to then go to the Pricing and Subscriptions section to exit the program. Why isn’t there an opt-in toggle where the “application to sell CBD” is located. If you are planning to sell CBD products please review every other option before choosing square. The service and support I received was horrible plus the rates they are offering for CBD products are high. Don’t bring your CBD business here. They treat you like you’re doing criminal activity for just inquiring.

Update. My app stopped working with this update

Improving!. Have been using square for cc processing for over two years. This app is much more back office oriented but very zippy. Chip cards process very quickly. Some of the functions could stand to be a tad more intuitive, and I have a list of functions I would like to see added, but the team seem very willing to listen to my suggestions and have actually implemented many ideas that I have discussed with them (maybe I'm being a bit self important). This is a very useful app and the improvements come fast and furious.

No Support. Awful setup and no support available....avoid!

Very awkward. We pretty much suffer through this program and are on the phone with customer service every week,

Error. There's constantly an error when I need to save the stock amount/info. It's been over a year.

Bad interface. This version is really counter intuitive to use. Why is the app not more similar to the iPad app, very strange.

Disappointed. Other than being able to add cost of goods (which a Basic function of running retail business) and printing a few extra reports. Retail is the same as the regular Square app but they have moved a few around and changed the color scheme a bit to give the allusion that it is worth the extra $60.00 a month!! Very irritating!!

Need help. How can I add taxes to the invoice? How can I add a invoice reference or PO# to the invoice?

Overall it works very well. This version of Square works very well. Adds some much needed features over the free Square Point of Sale app for using in an actual retail store environment. Ability to use bar code scanner is great. Inventory system works well. There is a bug in the inventory system so that when you issue a PO and then receive the product it doesn't automatically add it to your inventory but over all it's a great system. A little overpriced for what it is but they are adding new features all the time

Need Net Sales breakdown. Only the Gross totals are given for each category. This super basic stat doesn’t me no good. I want to see the Net totals for my categories as well.

System constantly crashes. Hardware takes long time to connect

Purple Butterfly is the BEST. Love this children’s store. Prices are fair, FREE monogramming and great customer service.

Can’t even set up an account. When I try to setup an account, it tells me to go to the App Store and update the app. I just downloaded the app! There are NO UPDATES! That’s as far as I was able to get. Good luck.

Just use the normal app. This is just like the normal square app but uglier. It does have search which is nice, but I don't know why they don't just add it to the normal app. Doesn't seem worth the price, especially since we have several iPads in the store.

Great & Fast for business!. Square for Retail is blazingly fast! Simply start scanning and your cart is automatically built. Also the smart customer directory that tracks sales by customer and automatically builds customer profiles and sorts them into groups based on sales habits has dramatically increased our customers experience in store! On the backend, managing inventory with advanced, real-time inventory management across all of our locations, as well as purchase orders, vendor management, and cost of food sold and margin reporting makes running my stores so much easier! I can easily manage all my employees from the same system. Truly game-changing. Thank you, Square!

My scanner is not working properly. I need tutoring of how my scan works, because now it got disconnected

Disappointed. Signup process aborted before end and still got charged for an app that I didn’t need! I’m Speechless!
