Modern Family History. I was using the app and the interface is so easy to navigate and I have such an easy time doing so. I mean, I'm laying on a couch in the middle of the Rocky Mountains on vacation and I can say I did family history thanks to this app. My favorite part is the internal Google Map where you can see where each ancestor is from and how they are related to you. I loved seeing all my ancestors from Norway and Germany. It was quite an experience and I'm very excited to get these names done. I am a college student and I couldn't be happier with an app that helped me in my family history.

Love this!. Take a Name is super easy to use. If your family search account is open and you are linked to your generations, this app finds the names of ancestors already on your family lines who are missing ordinances for you. "All of my family history is done" so it's hard to sift through the many ancestral lines to find someone to do work for. This does the hard part of searching! I do a bit of research to make sure the names it finds are accurate and not duplicates or otherwise erroneous. Super easy to reserve the name cards. Also a good tool to see when someone else has added family names to your tree so you can find sources and do additional research. Love this app!

No more drudgery.... This app crawls your family search tree and finds all persons that need LDS temple ordinance. What would have taken hours is completed in minutes.

#youhadonejob. When Take a Name searches 24,021 names and only finds the 135 ordinances you already reserved... Lol I like this app. I would never have found the like 50 names I did without it - that would have been years of digging. Saved me so much effort.

Help needed. Hello, This app is great and I really enjoy the simplicity this gives me in doing my family work. My issue is that I keep getting an error, and nothing will load. Searches,reservations, etc. How can I fix this? I logged out of it to try and fix it, now it won’t let me log back in. Thank you

Thousands of hours of work done in a few minutes!. Wow. Great app. Works so fast. I’ve seen it find ancestors for people who were absolutely sure all their family work was done. Searches tens of thousands of names and finds what you are looking for. Try it. It works.

A nightmare for genealogists. Take-a-Name allows users to print names for the temple that aren’t researched, aren’t sourced and haven’t been properly prepared for temple work. It has resulted in duplicate work being done. The better choice (if you’re not able to do the genealogy work yourself) is to use “Ordinances Ready” through FamilySearch. Ordinances Ready uses names that have been researched, sourced, prepared and shared with the temple system. Duplicates are still possible but far less likely than using the Take-a-Name app.

Almost perfect. This app has been truly helpful and my family uses it all the time. I bought it since it it so good. The only thing that could make it better is if you could select multiple names and then request them. Also, once reserved, if you could print multiple names per sheet of paper instead of one per sheet. My work around has been to request them one by one on this app and then go into Family Tree and print all of the ones that I’ve reserved, since Family Tree let’s me print multiple names per sheet. Keep up the great work!

You can take family names now!. Painless solution to an all-too-common problem. I thought all my family's ordinances were done, but Take A Name searches TENS OF THOUSANDS of your ancestors (surprisingly quickly) and dig up ordinances that it would take you years to find. DOWNLOAD NOW.

Something is wrong with this app. I have been using this app without problems for years…now I can’t get logged in…won’t do anything but show the spinning icon..I have uninstalled and reinstalled more times than I can count. Please help!!!!

Great app!. This app is super easy to use! It's such a great concept. Within a few minutes it had found several names with multiple ordinances to be done. I would definitely recommend this app to everyone interested in taking names to the temple!

Login Unresponsive on Apple & iOS. It seems like servers are down right now. That, or my iPhone and Samsung don’t like me at the moment. Hope this gets fixed soon.

What I’ve been looking for!. I’ve always found it quite hard to thread through my family tree for family members who still need ordinances done, but this app has truly helped me find those lost family members that I now can do the work for. I thought I was caught up until I did the search on this app and found I have many family members ordinances that I still need to finish! I am so grateful I found this app & hope to spread the word to my young generation who would also find this app helpful and easy!

Awesome!. I found 20 names I didn't know existed! My only problem is, I wish you could do more than 20 names at a time. This app is super easy to use but it does take all day to find 20(at least for me). You can put filters on what you want it to search for and everything. Wonderful app!

Amazing App. I am completely amazed by this app! It did an extensive search of over 80,000 records and found a number of ancestors who still needed ordinances done. It linked easily with Family Tree and reserving and printing out cards was shockingly easy. I am so excited to finally have some of my own family names to take to the temple!!

It was great back when I could log in. Since getting a new phone I haven’t been able to log in. I don’t see any way to contact the developer other than to leave a review.

User friendly!. Perfect and easy to use.

Best of its kind. This app has been incredible. I showed everyone in my family history class this app and it really sparked a desire to take family history work to the temple simply because it is so easy to use! My favorite feature is how I can reserve temple work within this app which will then automatically transfer over to my FamilySearch account. This app blows programs like Puzzilla and Hope Chest out of the water! The problem is that these software programs are expensive and/or have an interface that aren't user friendly.

App is great until it wants you to pay. I loved this app at first. It let me print off numerous names. All of a sudden it asked me to pay and when I didn’t, it all of a sudden won’t work. Keeps telling me something went wrong and to try again later. I have been trying to use the app for over two weeks and it says the same thing. It now has started kicking me out of the app and I have to log back in. Very annoying!

Take a name app. I’ve had this app for several years but all of a sudden it will not open up. I’ve made sure my phone had the latest update and I deleted the app and redownload it several times but it still won’t let me log back in. I clicked on tech support for the app and it said error.

100 stars if I could. I love Take A Name. It has allowed me to do nearly 100 baptisms and confirmations in my first 11 visits. I love how simple it is. I can get 20 names in half an hour. I highly recommend it.

Having problems. Normally I love this app, it works so smooth. Lately it hasn’t though and I can reserve names, but they won’t print or download. I tried emailing one to myself and it just emailed blank. I have an appointment this week and I need to print some cards.

Love But.... I truly love the concept of this app. I used it for the first time and was super excited that I could reserve a name, make the card a pdf, and get it printed at the temple in a couple of minutes. It made temple work feel so easy. BUT, it only works if you are sure all information is correct on your family search tree. I realized this when I told my friend about this app; she got her name printed only to realize that there was a possibility of a duplicate on her family search. Fearfully, I looked back at my family tree and noticed that the name I was provided by the app was actually one that had an unresolved issue. She had 3 different sets of parents written on her bio. So I don’t even know if I did the correct ordinance for her. I HIGHLY advice anyone using this app to verify on their family search before reserving and printing the name.

Great Model for How Gospel-based apps should work. I like how this app is free but allows the user to donate to support its development. I believe this is a great model for Gospel-based apps. Consider a donations button instead of in-app purchases, you can keep 30% that Apple would otherwise take.

Can’t give a fair rating since it won’t open. I give this app a one star rating just because I have never been able to open the app. I keep getting an error message every time I try. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app and tried over and over for three days now, all with no luck.

Finds names truly temple ready. This app is a godsend (literally: sent to us from God!), if you want to take a family name to the temple! Before I go to the temple, I open this app, which finds me a temple ready name from my family. I hit print, stop by the printer to pick up my name slip on my way out the door, & then my temple experience is for someone in my own family tree! There is no other fam hx app that does this. Others may find names of ppl who need work done, but not Family Search certified, temple ready names. You'll love it!

Not working. The app must not be available anymore. I had it for many years and used it to find a lot of names, but now it won’t go past the login screen. Super disappointed.

What?. The take a name app doesn't work well for me. When I search up male baptisms and confirmations I get females and many males that their work has already been done. Also, it comes up with a random number of names, sometimes more and sometimes less names. Maybe it is just my device but only a few of the people's names haven't been done.

Accuracy. I have used this app to find and take family names to the temple, but I have been a bit concerned as I have dug deeper into family history that some of the names being generated for ordinances have no record of a death date, meaning there is no way to know if they died in infancy, which would mean temple ordinances are not necessarily needed, for some of the names this app is coming up with. I am just wondering how the names are found generated. It seems that reliance on this app is making people think they are doing needed temple work for ancestors that really don’t need it. How sure are you that these ordinances are really needed? Is this app generating unnecessary ordinances?

The Missing Link. This App is truly the missing link between Temple Work and Genaeology. Take a Name streamlines hours of manual searching work into one neat, easy search that runs in the background! My only suggestion for improvement would be to allow for more than 100 search results - perhaps as a paid subscription? My queue is currently full as I do ordinance work that is time consuming, but I could be doing other precursory work in the meantime and would pay a monthly fee to have more or more filtered search results. Thanks for developing such an incredible tool!!

Enabler! :D. This app has enabled me to take over 250 names to do baptisms over the last few months, and I will surely use it for other temple ordinances when that’s an option. I currently use two LDS accounts to find names for - mine and my stepfather’s - and while this app isn’t built for account hopping, it’s not a big ordeal nonetheless. In response to an earlier review concerned about the 100-ordinance limit: that’s the number the app will let you have reserved, total. Because I cannot perform ordinances beyond baptism and confirmation yet, it was necessary to unreserve some sealings and such to be able to reserve more baptisms. I am so grateful this app exists! I will be using the (optional) donate feature very soon. Thank you so much. Many of my ancestors owe you. :)

Easy to use!!!. I love this app! I found 21 ancestors needing temple work done in 10 minutes. It is efficient and easy to use for those who may not be completely tech savvy.

Great tool but not real family history. Genealogy is NOT Family History. This just picks the low hanging fruit from your family tree. That’s great! Use it when you got to the Temple and haven’t found any names from your own research. The temptation is to use this instead of FamilySearch where more of the hard work and investigation takes place which leads up to temple work.

Extremely Frustrating UI. Took a long time to try to get everything entered in to set up an account because the keyboard kept covering everything, I couldn’t paste in a secure password, and after all that I still couldn’t log in.

Where have you been all my life "take a name"?. I'm so excited to have this app at my finger tips to get names last minute when needed. Either going to the temple with my wife on ward temple night or doing baptisms with my son and young men. Love it!!!!

Incredible app!. Where I'd felt apprehensive to begin family history, this app makes it so easy. The app does all of the work for you. Takes less than a minute to enter your login credentials and perform a search, and the app generated over 20 names and ordinances and outlined how I was related to the individuals. Very satisfying.

This app is so simple, it gets exactly the type of names you want, and I don't really care that I had to wait an entire day because I didn't have to leave the app on for it to work, they even make paying optional. This app is so helpful, really simple, and understands if you don't have the money. I would recommend this app to anyone doing family research. Think there is no lwork to do in your tree?. I am from Salt Lake City and live in Alberta. I come from pioneer lines on all sides and finding any ordinances to do is near impossible and if one pops up someone else grabs it fast. The app had to search over 2500 names before it came up with even 1 ordinance to do; in the end it searched 9,435 names and found 95 ordinances which is a thrill to someone who never gets to do family names. Glad I found it before the rest of my family or I would not have had a chance. : )) Would have never expected more than 5-10 ordinances!! Then tried it for my 84 year old mother and it searched 12,434 names and came up with 61 more ordinances!!! Didn't expect that! Thought I might have gotten them already. Great app. Worth every cent!

Great app. This app is awesome

Works good but some issues. Great app but does not seem to be working 100%. The issue I am having is when I start a new search I select that I want to search for "female", "baptisms & confirmations" and "20 names". When the search is complete I end up with 100 names which are a mix of male and female names, none of whom need baptisms. I am using iPhone 7 if that helps. I tried it after updating the app on 7/14/17 and still have the same issue. Thank you.

SO GOOD AND SOOOO EASY!!!. I've spent hours in the past trying to find family names and have never been able to find anything. In just a few minutes this app found plenty of ordinances for me to do. I'm stoked to finally be able to do family names at the temple!

Wow! What an Incredible App!. So glad to find out about this app. I have found no family names for temple work previously. This app found them for me while I was doing other things! I was easily able to reserve the names and there is a simple way to print the names. Much thanks to the developers!

Very Cool!. I have long felt I needed to get involved with researching my ancestors. This app has truly helped give me the motivation to get started and commit myself to this project. I urge all to "purchase"(donate to) the app. I can only imagine how taxing this app must be on its servers. So if people can donate they can increase bandwidth and speed up the app. Overall though great work!

Works great!. I always thought my grandfather had done all our names, this app found dozens for me to do. I am not an expert and wouldn't have found these names by myself.

Awesome App!!!. My line has had a lot of work done. So it takes some doing to find ordinances that need to be done. Take a Name searched through 82000 records and found around 37 ordinances. An extra bonus, working on the names found by Take a Name must have alerted Family Searches algorithms to new connections for my line because right after working on the names, family search emailed me a new name as well. I've been working with a family history missionary to make sure the names are not just duplicate records. While some were, many are legit names I can take to the temple. Well worth a try!

Finding a Needle in a Haystack. So much of my family history work has already been completed by others (research & completed temple work) that it has been hard for me to know where to begin. Within one hour of clicking the search button, 17,000 of my ancestors records had been searched and Take a Name found 20 individuals that still need temple work done for them. With a few more clicks I printed the temple cards at home and had them in hand ready to take to the temple! I also now have 20 new starting points to begin researching from to find more of my ancestors 😁

Never before so easy. This app is a perfect example of technology making finding temple names easy. Phenomenal.

Simple, powerful, and indispensable. Take A Name searches FamilySearch for your ancestors with incomplete ordinance work. Tap a name; tap to reserve; tap "print" to print name cards. Boom. Done. Almost too easy. I come from long LDS lines and had never done ordinance work for my own ancestors because I couldn't find any available. In seconds, Take A Name found my 8th great-grandfather, born in 1660, and today I began his work. Take A Name really shouldn't be an app. It should be a feature of FamilySearch. But since FamilySearch doesn't do that, Take A Name fills the gap and provides essential functionality.

Fast and easy. I don't review apps. Like ever. This has made the hardest part of taking family names to the temple... going to the temple. After I got a bunch of names, I logged in under my wife and she got a load of names from her side too. No family trees on this app, just hunting down people that need work done. Get it and use it.

Improvements: - Search is slow. Family Search... you listening? - Add goal dates/reminders for reserved names. - Add calendar integrations. When will you do this name? Push a Name/names to a calendar event. - Add assignments feature to become a family facilitator of the work. Assign a name to anyone in your family via SMS/email. Set a timer on the delegated assignment and track whether they did it in the background by background polls to Family Search. Auto expire an assignment. - ....

Awesome resource for temple names. I have been using this app for the last 4 years and have been able to take over 82 names to the temple. I love to tell my family and friends about it too. I am having a problem, though. I am trying to login on a new device and I type in my username and password and the screen won’t move. It doesn’t spin, or load, or even give an error message. It simply just stays on the login page. The username and password are correct.

Truly an amazing time saver.. I got pretty involved in family history a couple of years ago, but after floundering through Norwegian records from the 1600s for several months I felt lost and discouraged and eventually quit. When someone recommended this app to me I was skeptical of finding any names, but I tried it. It took several hours and 20,000 records, but it found 5 people who need ordinances--and perhaps more importantly, it got me excited about family history again. Now, when I get stumped in one branch it can show me holes in other places--in addition to saving me the weeks or months of manually combing my family tree. Thank you to the developers for creating such a useful and time saving tool for family history!

Amazing, Easy to Use. I've wasted my life trying to find names to bring to the temple on family search. So once I tried the app, I found names reserved them, and printed them out, all within 30 minutes! Hallelujah!!!

Great App. The easiest way to find names for the temple!. I'm a stake temple and family history worker and am familiar with many apps and tools for finding names for the temple. This is the best. Everyone with a full or partial tree can now bring their own family names to the temple. If you are LDS, get this app.

Great App for Basic Searches. This is great for finding names. The one thing it doesn't do is vet the names. It found several names that just needed the endowment, but the sealing to the spouse had somehow already been done, clearly an issue. But it also found several names that actually needed ordinances for sure. Overall, easy set-up, simple function, quick, and easy, even on a Sunday.

Outstanding, useful, well-designed. I'm surprised someone hasn't solved this problem before. The app is easy to use and finding names is now a very quick process. I really respect that they let you pick your price to buy after you try it out (and they even let you unlock it for free if you check "I Really Can't Afford It."

Hard sell for donations are annoying. Good service but the hard sell is very annoying. If they were transparent about their costs and how much money was rolling in, or if they didn't push so hard, it wouldn't bother me as much.

So Helpful. I've been told for the longest time that all of my families work was done! It took probably 45minutes for the app so search 6,000 names and find 20 I can take to the temple! So grateful and lucky to have found this app I would not have the patience to search 6,000 names!

Connects to Family Search, Very easy to use, searches for you. Thank you for this app!!!! Family temple work for millennials is going to boom! It will make my life easier too when I need to grab a name before I head to the temple. I've already got my names ready for a trip to the Houston temple next week. I LOVE that this connects straight to your Family Search account. Doesn't get any easier than this.

This App. This is what FamilySearch is missing - an easy way to find names to take to the temple, and being able to say you only want to find people who are missing certain ordinances is a great feature. They really nailed the workflow.
