Questionable and predatory. The biggest point that I would like to make in this review is that I have used Roomster multiple times and it has never been useful. The developer responds to poor reviews by saying that if you don’t like to pay, use free sites like Facebook, Roomies, etc. That is absolutely what you should do. It’s barely functional and the odds of having success on here are slim. This website survives off of its bizarre subscription feature. I paid for 7 days… why would you automatically renew me for the highest priced 30 days after the 7 days? But they rely on people not reading the fine print and forgetting that their 7 days is almost up, and that’s why this website still exists. The developer’s response to poor reviews only further validates that they are aware of their predatory subscription feature. They are not interested in feedback or improving. They just want your money.

Texted with over 1300 people. This app is not made to help you. This app doesn’t even care to clean up the scammers from their platform. They just want your money. Would you text with over 1300 people and get out with no roommate? This is what happened to me. Their app is full of bots. As soon you pay, the bots start texting you and you reply but no one ever responds back. And the main question from the bots would be, can you send me details along with pictures!? Because they cannot view your profile and your listing. So you end up responding to every bit for a long time. It’s a fraud app and they should be punished for creating this trap and monetizing on fake and using people needs. This app was not created to help anyone. It was created to get your money because you have needs. The creators should be punished. It’s a scam.

very very buggy. very confusing. just gonna get to a bulleted list for the PMs out there: - scanning my ID was confusing because the hit box to open the camera is very small and only open when you tap the text in the box vs tapping the whole box - i was editing my listing posting to be a roommate and it keep erroring after i made an edit and i had to type out the whole description again. this happened multiple times - i thought i had to complete the credit report for the full profile and i wasn’t aware that was a subscription. it’s a subscription not done through in-app purchases so i’m not even sure where to cancel this new subscription (that starts at $1 for a trial, then renews for $25?!). after creating this account, clicking the same button does not change the screen to a logged in state. it takes you through the sign up flow again.

Do not use if you have roomie preferences. This app is not worth it. I paid for the subscription to get access to messaging people looking for a room, since that’s what I’m offering. The way it’s set up is that every single new user can send a mass message to everyone on the app. It includes people that don’t even match the rent that you’re requiring (even if you set filters) so these can get really annoying fast. Usually they say “I need a room” with no details about their needs, who they are, what area they want to live in etc, no description in their profile bios or even a photo. I’ve never had so many people flake and not respond. It gives me dating app vibes which is so weird. I genuinely care about who I bring into my home so this app doesn’t help to filter people out for you based on your needs. I’ve had way better luck on one other renting app as well as social media groups with rental posts. I need people that are seriously committed to a lease and this app didn’t give me those vibes with the users. Some even seem like fake scammers.

Scam artist central. This app helps to facilitate scams against hopeful people looking to rent. They charge for communication yet so not validate any people renting property. Don’t waste your time or money. This app left me homeless fighting fraudulent credit cards opened in my name. Edit: You allow people to pray on the vulnerable by not removing reported scammers. I can count 3 that are still up and running even though they have been reported several times. Those users use your system to collect “applications” for rental properties that do not exist. Since credit checks are a typical part of any rental they are allowed to collect enough sensitive data to attempt to open cards under other peoples names fraudulently. So yea, you not only condone it you promote it. I stand by my review. It is factual. Edit #2: Almost forgot to mention this, they are also violating Apples TOS by paying for 5 star reviews on the App Store. “Send a screenshot of your 5 star review to get a free week of messaging”. In direct violation of TOS.

Horrible. It seems like a good idea, but the execution on how the app works is horrendous. First of, you need to pay to see messages! Now, you might be thinking that these messages are sent directly to you about the listing that you posted, but no! The messages are posted as a bulletin board. So it’s just a complete mess and not organized. Random people posting that they need a room but they never reply and worst of all, the majority of the profiles don’t have profile photos or a small introduction. Maybe they are bots or fake profiles, but I am shocked that for a roommate finder app, the security and verification is zero to none. After a day, I realized that this app was just not what it was advertised to be and offer. Don’t waste your time. Unless big changes are made to the interface, accessibility, and security, this app is really useless

Getting lots of serious inquiries. So far I am liking the app and finding it very helpful in finding roommate matches. I’ve gotten tons of messages from people who are interested and I do like that some have their identity verified, but you will not be able to read the messages if you don’t pay $29. I personally hate to sign up for subscriptions because they are a pain to cancel. I do wish they offered a one time one week or one month plan. They have offered me a free trial week which I really appreciate and will definitely take advantage of that and see how that goes. Definitely worth a try. I think the success depends on the area you are in as well.

Fakes. They have postings on Craigslist (I found 6) different listings that looked pretty good and they all said the same thing and to get this app. So I said what the heck cause I really need a room and I thought those were just bots advertising this app. So i said I guess I’ll check it out not cause the bots but I still couldn’t find anything… so that’s the first problem is they flood other platforms with spam. No about the app. The first thing is even if it was legit and they didn’t do slimy tricks it is super glitch and just horrible platform to use. On the app they post listings just to look like a lot and then you try to get in contact but it’s not real. The ID verification is $15 but I did it and since the platform is so glitch I lost my money because my account got erase some how. Last thing, look at the reviews, look at the star ratio… 5 and 4 star have a lot 3 and 2 have none, but then 1 quite a bit. Don’t waste your time or money.

Deceitful Messaging. This app has a paywall for you to view messages, which is typical of these types of room searching apps. But there’s a catch. EVERY time someone makes a post, i’m talking a general post, it gets sent to your inbox… when i made my post looking for a roommate i was suddenly flooded with messages in my inbox, SO i thought people had replied to my post and were interested… right? NOPE. Because all i got flooded with was spam and random posts of people looking for roommates in my… inbox? like what? it’s just a way to trick you into paying for their app because they don’t actually believe the app is capable of successfully finding you a roommate. I’m so frustrated. I would love to get a refund from this money stealing and useless app, i should have followed the bad reviews on here beforehand!

Expensive few listings. App is extremely expensive and it forces you to subscribe so you have to be very careful and cancel subscription. There are few listings. Most messages are ignored. It’s too simple. You can’t filter results based on non negotiables. Most listings do not have a description or the description of the listing is too vague. There is a fair amount of fraud too. Tell tale bad English, mandatory credit and background checks. My advice would be the freeze your credit so no one can open an account under your name. Despite the pit falls the concept is great and necessary but like other people have mentioned, we’re risking homelessness. We’re I’d verified, and have spent a lot of money. $15 to get is verified, $30 to get messages and there aren’t enough inventory of homes and real people. There are too many fake profiles and commercial properties. The app had good intentions but ends up scamming people desperately needing a place to live. They also don’t allow any information about lease terms, cost or any form of numbers on the ad. This means it’s near impossible to know if a property is suitable. Very few people respond to messages. There aren’t enough filters to find a decent home.

Blocked my number. Is this a scam?. While moving is challenging enough I downloaded this app to use to find my first apartment since it was recommended by a colleague. In the start of using the app worked well, in my opinion, I wanted to subscribe to all features in the app to do my roommate search for a faster and better user experience messaging others through the app. I purchased the two-month subscription, and it was going well, for the most part. Ten days later, after purchasing, my number was blocked, and I could not use the app. I don’t recommend this at all. No information; just blocked my number from using the platform. It seems this seem like the normalcy of the developer. Be cautious everyone! If you’re experiencing the same I would recommend contacting Apple for a refund.

What’s the point?. The app has an excellent feature display, very easy to go through and look at apartments and roommates. My issue however, is the fact that you can’t contact anyone without paying. While I didn’t previously look at the fees before downloading, I came to realize very quickly, that without buying the 8 dollar upgrade, you cant contact anyone!!! You’ll get notified that someone has messaged you, but without paying, you cant see the message at all. What’s the point in making an app, that NEEDS people to communicate in order to even get any general understanding of a potential roommate/ apartment. Just make it to where people have to buy the app in order to download and communicate. There’s quite literally no point in this app, other than looking at potential apartments, unless you pay the fee.

Not worth it. Trash app. I signed up for it when I was needing a roommate and saw that I had to pay for it. So didn’t pay and kept getting emails that people were sending me messages. Decided to pay for a week to see these messages people were sending me. No one was sending me messages, it was just the app trying to get me to pay. I forgot to cancel before the week subscription was up and canceled less than 24 hours after money was taken out of my account. Which instead of charging me for another week they charged me even more money for an entire month plan??? Contacted customer support to see if I could get refunded since I canceled less than 24 hours after being charged and they charged me the month fee(which wasn’t approved) instead of a week fee. Human on other end of computer just copy pasted policy info and wasn’t helpful or understanding at all. Don’t waste your time or money on this app. - in response to developer: no one was sending me messages. You guys kept sending me emails as if someone was messaging me but all it was was people singing up in the area not physically someone reaching out to me- which is how your emails are sent. I’d update this because it’s very scammy to get people to sign up when if fact people aren’t actually messaging.

Lousy interface. Terribly monetized. Not useful and full of scam postings.. I’ve never written a review for an app in my life but my experience with this app was so horrendous it warranted it. This app is terribly designed and monetized and the developer’s censor certain words from people’s bios. Can’t use the words “phone”, “mail,” “email” “number,” etc just so you’re not able to get around their paywall. The idea that I have to pay money to simply read the messages other people were sending me is ridiculous. They also want $15 just to authenticate your profile with your ID. It never crossed the developer’s minds that they could just generate revenue by including ads like how every other app does? Final nail in the coffin is how many listings on this app are scams. I had scammers trying to rent me a 2 bedroom apartment in Manhattan for $900 sight unseen and they were planning on sending me the apartment keys via FedEx after I wired them a deposit. Ridiculous. As a final note, the customer service with this app is clearly non-existent judging from the developer’s response’s to other poor reviews. Way to doge accountability and valid criticism guys!

This app has potential. I really like the app but noticed a few issues. 1) When posting an ad or profile, it seems to remove numbers when posting. So every ad or profile says… I am years old. I’ve tested it. Not great. So I had to spell out the numbers on my profile. Anyway, when looking for places, it doesn’t give me the ability to sort by price (lowest to highest or highest to lowest) areas such as cities and only sorts by most recent listing. It would also be a bonus to get the amenities up front with monthly price instead of having to dig through the description to find out because not all select the amenity options. Otherwise I like the app.

So many glitches. I’m VERY confused by all these good reviews. This app is FULL of glitches. If you want to verify your email but your email already exists, good luck. They only give you a cancel button. No “sync accounts” option, no “log in using email” option. It just doesn’t let you verify. If you submit a help ticket, the screen is completely blank after you submit your ticket. There’s no back button or anything to return to the main app. If you want to browse before committing to anything, you’re unable to. You have to have a listing of some sort posted before you can see anything. If you want to view listings on a map, you can’t. If you want to zoom in on a listing’s picture, you can’t. I don’t know what kind of sad, low standards these reviewers have but this app needs HELP.

Money grabbers. I didn’t realize this is a useless app/website unless you pay significant money. I posted roommate ad and everything seemed ok but then I received a notification that someone sent me a message for the roommate position. However I could not access my mailbox on the app unless I pay either $8 for the week, can’t remember second option or 60days for $50. Otherwise you can’t access roommate messages. Why would I ever do that when there are many free options out there for finding roommates. Don’t use unless your rich. They will probably respond to this review with: their usual robotic answer of me not liking this because they charge and they only charge $1 a day and they think that’s fair. Well that’s ridiculous it’s a website to find roommates so obviously your demographic doesn’t have a lot of money, second no one is going to find a roommate in one day and from my experience it will take awhile on your app/site. Please no one use this so they can go under or can be a normal company and find other ways of making money like advertising. There are sites to find Roomates for free all over use Reddit facebook Craigslist

Terrible. Waste of Time. I am not paying $30 to message people, which is REQUIRED to use the app for the reason you download it. They also don’t allow you to put your socials on your profile as that would be a good way to avoid paying the excessive fee. They have a way to keep all the right words and delete anything remotely leading to that direction. I even tried typing insta as “1inst@gr@m.” After reading reviews, the app is just not worth it. You may ask, why am I giving it 5 stars? It’s so that when people sort by the good reviews they will see this and hopefully decide not to download the app or pay the money! Have a great day fellow readers and Godspeed in your search to find roommates.

Poor app and website. Difficult to makes ads. Both the website and the app liked to freeze while I was creating my ads (with 5G WiFi). App highly annoying—only one pic at a time. Sometimes the site would rotate my photos sideways and gives no option to rotate it back. I have a love/hate for the thing that pops up after you create an ad. People who respond to that act like they can’t see my ads or they don’t bother to look. They ask basic questions like where is this located? how much is rent? One person who was asking me was even looking for a place 2 hours away! The people on here responding to my ads seem a bit sketchy. There’s little to nothing on here about them to make me think they’re real people much less good tenants/roommates especially when asking questions for information already listed. Paid for full access. Waste of money. Multiple people I have written to do not respond. This has been a total waste of money and time.

Don’t waste your time. In a time in which it’s very difficult to find affordable or adequate housing or roommates, the idea of having to pay to see who messages you is dumb. Regardless of whether or not it’s stated on your App Store page, most apps that have in app purchases at least have better features before charging you or expecting you to pay anything. This is equivalent to tinder or bumble trying to charge you to swipe on people or open messages, which they do, but after a certain amount of time/swipes. This review isn’t meant to bash the app because yes if you scroll far enough they state that you will need to pay, however if you’re like me and you can barely afford your basic needs, you don’t have the time or money to waste just to be able to access messages. Edit: It’s about accessibility. You don’t know who can afford a dollar a day. It’s not about what you think is fair considering 1.you don’t know your demographic and who can afford to waste $8 a week on app and 2.the amount of people who have also downloaded this app also think it’s trash.

Like test driving a vehicle from your computer chair. I am certain that I am not the first, nor will I be the last to express my surprise and immense disappointment in the setup of your free trial. It is absolutely absurd for this app to be managed this way. It’s in bad taste. Not only was it not sufficiently explained that the message portion of the application(the most essential necessity) is strictly limited to paying subscriptions. Without the opportunity to experience this feature, I am left to wonder if any or potentially all of the messages I was alerted to have recieved are or were SPAM. It is that reason that I do not feel it worth even the lowest subscription amount to find out. I recommend a different approach if you are interested in providing a useful application that you ca. be proud of. Rather than focusing on the income first and being hopeful word will spread.

App was great (when it worked). This app was fine for me at first, I could actually log in and get messages from other people, communicate with them and also see that someone sent messages (for free), but not all of them. Things kept changing though; sometimes I could see messages, and sometimes not. The BIGGEST problem, however, is now I CAN’T EVEN SIGN IN! I used to use my e-Mail, as it was one of the options available. I never had to verify anything else (like my phone number) because I spoke with customer service, and they signed me in anyway. Now, the ONLY WAY TO SIGN IN is with PHONE NUMBER and I NEVER VERIFIED IT. Turns out, not only did they HAVE MY PHONE NUMBER, it is BLOCKED FROM THE WEBSITE. How did they even get it if I never gave it to them? When I spoke to customer service again, the guy over e-Mail said “delete your account and make a new one with that phone number”. Huh? That’s customer support? What about all my messages to and from other people? How do I know my phone number won’t get blocked again? There’s so much wrong with this, it is mind boggling. I can’t even write a review on their website, nor contact customer service because you have to have a signed-in-account (I could only reply to old e-mails customer service sent me because I can’t sign in). I’ll give it 2 stars, at least because when I could use it, everything was OK, but constant changes has turned this thing into utter crap

Garbage App & Garbage Platform. The app requires frequent re-logins and it freezes a lot and crashes. Each login requires re-entry of a phone number and subsequent text verification. This is 2022 and most apps and platforms support UNs and PWs, and even Face ID. The platform requires the creation of a listing, even if you’re just looking for a place. That’s true even if you’ve subscribed and verified. They also don’t tell you that the $30 subscription fee doesn’t include verification. Plan on $47 total. Lastly, it’s probably a combination of the app and the platform, but the search feature is weak. You can only look in one area at a time and finding that area is not intuitive. While entering a location, the app presents street addresses first, over areas/cities, even when a city name is typed.

Paying to view messages - no warning of the change.. This I feel obligated to write a poor review due to this change. Yes, you can charge whatever you want to for the service you provide, and you do not have to care about how it effects people. It’s completely within your rights. This level of not caring deserve a poor review. This is an app that helps people establish their living situations, which can be necessary for them to be able to sustain themselves and manage finances in order to afford expenses that come up. When good apps have a change coming like this, they announce they date of change in advance and give people a chance to prepare. You could have done that. I don’t respect how this was done at all.

use literally any other website. i hate to be the "this entire thing is a scam" person, but this app is only out to get your money. the layout is impractical and hard to figure out. most of the accounts are just blank profiles. you get matched with people out of your budget, range, and pretty much everything you're looking for. the app shows the lowest premium option as $30, so i wasted that money just to message like two people, since you can't even put your phone number or social media anywhere. you have to go into the app store itself to get a 1 week subscription for $10, but even that is ridiculous. all you can do is make listings and look at other ones. The app is buggy and nothing saves the right way unless you press specific things in the exact order. without the premium version there is literally no purpose. just save yourself the time and money and find a different website or app.

Don’t waste your time. More than half of the people on this app don’t bother posting a profile photo or bio on their profile, yet hope that you would feel comfortable considering a living situation with them. Makes no sense. Most people also don’t take the time and actually read your listing that is full of details and information. They would rather be lazy and just ask you questions that are already answered in your listing. The app is also hard to navigate and some numbers are allowed in your listing description and some numbers are not. It’s very bizarre. So you have to spell out your move-in date in letters, not numbers. All in all, this was a complete waste of time. I’ve had much better luck on Craigslist.

This app should not exist. I spent a great chunk of my time texting people on this app because I am desperate in finding a room by the end of the week, only to find out that I am not able to see if someone texted me back. This app is an absolute fraud in being advertised as free to use when in reality you have to pay a weekly fee. I would be GLAD to pay the weekly fee if the app had told me about this fee before I started to actually use it, and I dont see why they wouldnt. Is their plan just to milk money out of people? For no reason. I have barely any time to look for places and when I finally have time I have this app finessing me, that was a waste of my time. I dont wanna pay the weekly fee and support this scam. As for the developers that previously said “its only a dollar per day and thats a fair price” yes, its not expensive, but the fact that the people who download this app are not aware of the charge is what makes it ridiculous. On top of being scammers, these guys are absolutely rude and petty. Reporting this app asap.

Not recommended, doesn’t have filters for cities. I typically don't write reviews, but I hope sharing my experience can be of help to someone just like I find other reviews to be helpful . After creating an account and going through the initial steps, I immediately noticed that the app bombarded me with numerous ads for various locations. Unfortunately, there was no feature to filter by city or distance, leading to a clutter of irrelevant ads from all over the place. As I explored the app further, I realized that to access my messages, I had to make a payment, which left me quite frustrated. However, since I was genuinely in search of a room, I decided to give it a chance. It was NOT worth it! I encountered a flood of people spamming their listings, which didn't even align with my requirements, making it a complete waste of time despite having created a comprehensive profile. In summary, this app lacks essential filters, is plagued by spammy listings from landlords , it’s a WASTE of time and money, and tends to have higher prices. In the end, I returned to Facebook Marketplace, where I found what I was looking for. I won't be downloading this app again, and I can’t recommend it; I'd suggest continuing your search on Facebook Marketplace or seeking assistance from a realtor.

Total Scam. This company is a complete scam. I made an account and contacted several people for apartment listings, later to find out that I could only see messages if I paid a fee. I received a notification that someone had left a message for me, so I figured I would pay the fee so I could read it. Not a huge issue for me to pay a bit if it meant I could connect with someone to find a place. However once I paid, I received a notification saying the message was “no longer available”. This leads me to believe that it was simply a fake message/notification or account that was used to lure me into paying for the service. Then once I paid it disappeared. There was no message. Be weary of this company if you are thinking of using and paying for it.

Didn’t Help. I was never able to find a roommate with this app. The search results are flooded with scams. It’s hard to find a legit person without having to scroll through thousands of spam. They need a tech to go through these and delete them all. I reported a bunch of postings from one scam account but yet they have not got rid of them. The account is named Roomster Partner. Beware of that one. My email has been flooded with notifications about messages, since people could post up a message and everyone on Roomster will get notified. It’s a tactic to get you to pay to view them, when really those messages are worthless. Luckily, I was able to find roommates without Roomster. Roomster made me want to give up on looking tbh, since it seemed hopeless.

Great Concept, but a little Costly. I love that this app connects people who are looking for rooms and roommates, it’s a great concept. The formatting of the app is straightforward and easy to use. I had a great experience with customer service when I used the chat function to ask about how messaging works for a person without a paid membership, but I wish it were stated more clearly on the app/website that you will not receive messages from all users who reach out if you have a free account. I think the membership price is a little high at $30 for 30 days.

Sketchy. This app is full of sketchy accounts that are highly likely to be fraudulent posts. Besides the stranger danger from being scammed online the app also charges a ridiculous fee to be used. $30 for thirty days and $50 for 60 days. It is highly unlikely you will find a room through this app and even if you did it takes awhile to settle into a place. If you use this app to look for a roommate I suggest placing your contact info in the description such as an Instagram or Snapchat/email so a potential roommate can contact you without having to pay for a subscription. Other than that this app has these fake messages that pop up as soon as you open an account. When you go to view them they hit you with a paywall demanding a subscription to read them. I’ve never been one to fall for such shady business practices. I suggest you look elsewhere until the developers figure out how to improve this app. They can charge fees for other businesses to advertise on the platform instead of charging people who quite frankly shouldn’t be paying to search for a roommate.

A CHARGE($) FOR EVERYTHING 🤬😒. I don’t believe years ago this app had a fee to use. It’s free to download however *beware* it’s useless w/o being able to msg others. There are different subscription prices just to msg people!! Ridiculous! People are on here to find roomies & essentially save coin, not be forced into buying a subscription!! There’s even a fee to get your ID/license verified!! 2 days after finally caving & buying the $10 subscription just to msg people- absurd!!..I experienced issues! After writing & posting my listing, the words I typed saved weird. Numbers are unable to be saved in the listing description-which is annoying- to add a numerical budget max etc. If I’m going to be paying for something- it better work 100%- functionally & properly! Also- when looking at others listings- I would see they had a active listing either from announcements or whatever- then I clicked on there profile to see the whole listing and it would say listings- 0 !! ***FRUSTRATING****

Why can’t I just log in?. The app is crap after creating a login it takes you back to the homepage you put a phone number in and you continue to do that until it says something like too many requests. Once you get in the app everything is good but if you want to heart something you go back to this login put in your phone number is this too many request there is a login button you click on it and once you put in the phone number and so it always restarts again. I never get to use my login because I always have to put a phone number and in create an account that I already have. Is this my computer?

Glitchy and Expensive. 1) The app closed me out of the app about 3 times while I trying to provide detail about a room I’m trying to rent out currently. Rewriting my add multiple times was time consuming. I re-added data just to find out… 2) Most important, I could not view any messages. This app should be free. When I was looking for a college roommate “Renthoop” was still alive and well, and most of all, completely free. Facebook messenger is free. Tinder is generally free. Craigslist, also free. I disagree that “a dollar a day” is fair in any aspect. Especially for people who are trying to fill a room immediately and are most likely paying an extra sum to keep their rental. Most of all, a majority of the users are college aged students. Do you really think there is money to spare? Severely disappointed.

Jail the developer. There is no reason for the app to cost so much with a UI so crappy. I would get new messages every day, only for the communication to be cut off shortly after the conversation started. The app advises against it, but the ONLY way I could communicate with potential tenants was by exchanging phone numbers, because the app was too crappy to sustain a convo. On top of that I kept getting logged out randomly for no reason at all, until one day I could no longer log back in. Despite this, I was STILL being charged at full access rate ($12/week) when I had no access at all. This app needs serious work, the developer needs to be fired and jailed for charging so much for a useless product

Don’t bother. I live in a fairly remote area so I wasn’t expecting much but the price to see messages is ridiculous. Paid for a month and hardly ever got messages that were relevant to my location. Had way more luck on free apps and websites like FB Update: Developer replied saying I should give it more time, or that my pricing might not be fair or accurate. I’ve used it for over a month, lowered the pricing based on rates from my community. I can see why the app hasn’t improved much after similar complaints have been made in the past. They just reply with snarky comments and don’t do a thing. Don’t spend a dime on this app.

I’ve Concluded this is a scam. Although a great idea in premise, this is POORLY executed. A great app was developed but then got ruined when they tried to figure out how to effectively monetize it. This app charges $11 just to read and send messages for 7 days!!!! This might be great in a more heavily populated areas, but in more rural areas with only ~20 users… yeah crickets. Since this app charged me $11 without getting a single reply, I see this as a total scam. I am willing to bet the other ~20 users are not actively paying the subscription, thus when someone finally does pay and reply I have to pay even more money just to view what they wrote. This reliance on a weekly subscription just to have a basic conversation and the added joke of randomly censoring messages out of fear of someone giving out an email or number (because then they would be forced to overpay for garbage). Oh yeah, “for your safety, don’t give out numbers”, motivation behind this is eye rolling lot obvious. SAVE YOUR MONEY, I will desperately try getting a refund!

Must pay to use. The app is free the download, free to put up listings. However you are required to buy a subscription of at least $11 USD in order to use the mailbox and talk to anyone. Bad app, exorbitant prices ($11 for 7 days, $30 for 30, or $50 for 60), found no use in this app and deleted as soon as I realized a subscription was required for any real use of it. I’m not sure how the developers expect anyone to get any use out of the ‘free version’ of this app without the ability to communicate with others. I feel tricked that I even downloaded the app without this information presented to me. If you want to make money off an app like this, stop lying to people upfront about it being free to use and make them pay for it, no hiding subscriptions. There is no use for this app without the subscription.

Waste of app. I’m currently trying to find a place or roommate but I have to pay to use the service? I have better luck using tinder and it’s free, also I understand the high volume of security breach but when I tried to verify my email, didn’t work, when I contacted customer support, left me hanging waiting on respond for 20 mins and still till this day no response it’s a joke it’s giving me more trouble than getting anything positive out of this, it’s such a hassle and I don’t think we should be charged for using the service as it’s a destination of ppl trying to find a place or a roommate just saying but I get it y’all are just trying to make money off of people who is desperate and I am desperate but not enough to pay for a service when I can do it free on Facebook or any other sites

Barely works. To the developers. I read the reviews, then tried the app, and I agree with the 1 stars. “Have you noticed that people only vote 1 star on the app because they don’t like the charging price?” - developer response Maybe that’s a sign? You’d think right? Maybe, just maybe, you’re dealing with people who are struggling to find places to rent, and you’re not helping them at all with what you do charge or how you run your app. I own my place and was going to find someone to possibly rent the bedroom/kitchen area, and I don’t want to take advantage of people in these struggles, y’all are crooks plain and simple. And your responses are full of sass and sleazy comebacks to people who are genuinely upset with your product. Don’t like all the 1 star reviews? Do better. Simple as that. Also the prices some of these people are charging for places to rent are atrocious, ain’t no way someone should be payin $700 to use a single bedroom and share a bathroom within the household. Good luck yall, I’m sorry this app seemed good then became greedy. Also to the developers I know your response is going to be seething or rude or whatever else like the other responses you’ve been giving, so save your time and your breath.

not useful, not free. Basically users need to pay $30 for access to their incoming messages. You can send a message, but cannot see a response, or receive a message from anyone responding to your listing. Some people put their personal contact info in their listing because of this, and as a woman who was looking for a room alone I prefer not to go that avenue. It was confusing to even take down my listing (after finding a place elsewhere), and still I get emails from Roomster, including notifications for rooms in random states around the country. This is not useful! I just want to delete my account and wipe my information completely now. Sneaky business model and a waste of time.

So useful for longterm traveller. The apps name maybe roomster , seems like it can only find you a roommate, but a lot of people post to sublease their unit and this is a good idea since a lot of long-stay visitor would love to find a place where we can rent monthly with affordable price (annual price), instead of having to stay in hotel the whole time. In the meantime, sometimes, our life events need to make us move from our place before the contract ends and we can make some money instead of wasting the rest of the contract period. For anyone wanting to sublease their apartment, this apps help you check the credibility of the person you subletting your unit to.

Don’t use or pay for this app - not worth it!. I paid for one week to use this app so that I can see the messages people are sending me, but I honestly wish I had never even downloaded the app, let alone pay to use it. There are SO MANY bugs, it’s difficult to use and navigate different pages. BC it’s difficult to use, so few people have a full profile set up (myself included). And it took me SEVERAL attempts to get my listing set up correctly. There’s also no easy way to filter search results, so I can’t narrow my roommate search very easily. In addition, I’ve gotten messages from people who are searching in San Diego (I’m in LA) and/or on the complete opposite part of town. Not only does this waste both my time and the other persons, but it could easily be resolved/prevented with a better app.

Love this app. Roomster has been such a big help to me I am moving to Las Vegas next week and I was having a hard time finding rooms to rent and then a friend told me about this app and I gave it a try and within 2 days I was able to talk to so many people about renting a room in their homes but not only that it showed me nice homes to rent rooms out of within my own budget that I also got to put in and the people are so nice and these houses are so beautiful I would definitely recommend Roomster to a friend and or family member any day. I give this app a 10/10!!

Scummy Social Pressure. This app does have a decent number of listings, which is more than I can say for most other roommate search apps. However, the way they try to shuttle you towards their paid subscription is a deeply scummy “dark pattern.” To other reviews the developer has responded that they “don’t think $1 a day is an unreasonable cost” for the service they provide. That may be, but the app doesn’t charge you for the service of being able to look at rental properties, to message others, or to filter for specific rental needs. Instead, it asks you to pay *in order to view* messages from others. This effectively leverages the social pressure we feel to not ignore someone who messages us to force us into paying. If the developer wants to have a paid service that’s fine. Provide a free trial and then require a subscription for everything thereafter. Or require that we pay in order to send messages out. Or require a fee to list. There are plenty of options that don’t leverage human’s inherently social nature to force an extremely high subscription fee in order to not feel like you’re leaving people on read.

Decent App, poor monetization. It’s got a clean, simple, and easy to use interface, so navigating the app is effortless right off the bat. A wide selection of rooms and prices available with an activity level that is decent but nothing crazy. 4 responses in 2 weeks, and the one response to a listing I sent never got a reply. Activity isn’t something the app can control, though. The bigger issue is the way it gets you to pay. They might as well just have someone pay to get the app because you can’t do much without doing so. It seems pointless to let you send messages and not give you the ability to receive any. Can’t actually find a room if you can’t talk to anyone offering them, so the app can’t actually be used if your not paying for it. Wish they would do that a little better. Like other apps that give priority to paying listers, putting their listings first or advertising them quicker, making it stand out more and stuff like that. Instead of completely blocking free users from using the service at all, leaving it mostly just a glorified tease where you can see all the places for rent but not interact with them. Probably affects the activity levels of course. People make a listing then realize they can’t get messages and then leave.

Free Trial. I love the app features, I love the app quality. The accessibility to my profile and easily make changes. The overall structure and function of the app is overall great. This may just be something critical to my situation, if so, that’s okay. Due to the fact that I don’t have a subscription, I can’t access my messages. I can’t see them, I can’t messages anyone. Nothing. That’s very frustrating when I’ve gotten the notification and I can’t see anything. My fiancé & I live in my car right now, & I’ve had opportunities that I’ve had to miss out on because I can’t contact anyone. A free trial would be awesome. For people like me who have to save EVERY penny, I can’t afford the subscription options. I just think more options should be offered. That’s all. Overall, app is great.

Surprise! It’s not free after all.. This app is listed as free but with in-app purchases. This should mean that you can use the basic, essential features but that there are incentives for paying for extra, right? Nope! You have to buy a subscription just to view or send messages. In other words, you can indeed download and open the app for free, but you will never be able to use this product as intended unless you pay. You can’t find a roommate without a means of communicating with potential matches. I just downloaded this yesterday and managed to post a listing while figuring out how it works. I have two messages, but no way to respond or even see if they’re worth responding to. My apologies to whoever reached out, but I’ll now need to figure out how to remove my listing 🙄 I understand it’s not free to develop or maintain an app like this, but if it requires payment for users to use the product, be more transparent about it. Now I feel rude for simply ignoring these messages.

Account deleted within minutes. Update: My review has nothing to do with your charges. Your filters allow and encourage people to discriminate against just about every protected class under the Federal Fair Housing Act. I think the US government should force you to cease operations until you stop allowing people to post listings which openly state that people who are black, LGBT, religious, of certain age or male are “not allowed.” In the 10 minutes I browsed your listings, before my account was deleted without notice, every single listing I viewed had some mention of disallowing a protected class from applying. One of the listings literally said “no blacks, no gays, no Muslims” at the bottom. Another said “Asian women only.” It’s not just gross, it’s against the law. I created my account, finished my profile, verified my email and phone number, posted a listing, then was logged out as I attempted to send my first message. The login page says “User Removed” but I haven’t received a text or an email stating that my account was deleted. Sketchy app that allows people violate US housing discrimination laws. Saw multiple people specifying what race/age/gender/sexual orientation they were willing to provide housing to. Creepy. Glad I didn’t spend $15 to verify my identity since they decided to delete my account without reason within 10 minutes of installing.

SCAM. Have read nothing but bad reviews online about roomster. Was led to this app after seeing people advertising their ads for roomster on Facebook. After checking their profiles, it seems they are either fake profiles or people from overseas advertising rooms in Australia. Half the ads have the same images for different houses.

Awfully design very poor outcome. Never got one person from this app when I used only served to charge me a fee monthly which I can’t see to find a way to cancel. Very unsatisfactory service!!!

Scammy App - Avoid. Firstly, the app tricks you into publishing a listing while leading you to believe that you’re simply searching for local listings. It then wants to charge you to view messages. The 5 star reviews are BS. Roompik seems similar. Having checked out a lot of the ‘global’ ‘solutions’, I think you’re usually better off with a local site or FB group. : )

Total waste of time & money. This is ridiculous, signed up to find housemates and just kept getting random messages and no-ones profile has any detail. Total waste of time & money. DO NOT sign up!!!

Annoying. All these nice reviews are paid. Not waste time down long the app. It’s just a waste of time you can’t even view listing unless you pay for verification. 👎👎👎👎

Worst app ever. Apple need to remove this scamming garbage from their App Store.. do not waste your time or money on this garbage that doesn’t even work.. any good review on this app is fake and I feel like I’ve been scammed paying money for this!

Stupid. You can’t put many preferences, I didn’t want to post an Ad but you can’t use without making one

Waste of money. This app is a massive waste of money. The application itself is a great idea and is really user friendly. The problem is that almost no-one is using it! It’s a market place to find share rooms but there are almost none being offered for rent - at least in Australia.

Room scammers. App stops working after a few days

Fake listings and messages to get you to sight up. This is a scam it forces you in to a subscription to read messages but they are not messages they are sent via the app and half the profiles don’t match the age, gender or pictures they are auto generating fake profiles (and badly) to get you to subscribe. You have been warned!

DO NOT INSTALL THE APP!. I am still being charged odd amounts even though I have cancelled my membership and deleted the app 10 MONTHS AGO. I have tried to contact and there is no response. DO NOT INSTALL THIS APP!!

convenient truth. Now my friends and I have to travel very easily can make a reservation

Waste of time!!. Basically there is no way for you to use the app to contact anyone unless you pay for the upgrade. Potential housemates will be trying to message you and Roomster will not allow you to see it. What is the point of a free option if you can’t do anything on there?

Misleading advertising. A big banner says: “Only 0,99$ a week” or similar, small words says: Each day p.week. Finally is: 7,49$ p. week, 30$ p.month. There are not too many places for rent, at least in Melbourne. Only one week and BYE!

Scammers. It’s a scam

Waste of time. Clunky app design, basic map function and not really very easy to use ad navigate. You can’t do anything other than look at the ads unless you pay.

Login not possible. White screen when trying to log on. Useless, unfortunately.

Insulted at the login screen.. Can't even log in to the app because their app algorithms think my profile is fake. So as a human... I'm giving them one star.

NO. What’s the point of this app if you have to pay to see who messaged you ???? So stupid do NOT recommend Made it extremely hard to find a rental and just annoying

Get your money back. This app is terrible and it doesn’t work properly and will take payment but still ask for upgrade payment so I have lost potential housemates causing me to lose more money from my own pocket very disappointing app and I will be asking for a full refund.🖕🏾

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP. It doesn’t want to tell you that you can’t open messages from other people for your listing unless you sign up to an $8 a week subscription. But you’ll write up the whole add before you know this! Ridiculous

Not user friendly. I was wondering how does one reply to potential house mate without paying weekly or is this not a free service

Worth using. Roomster appears to have a lot of people searching for a room which will be helpful when trying to find a house mate for my property. Will definitely use each time I need to fill a room.

Costly. $15 a week is a very steep price. I can’t find anywhere in the app that tells you what you even get for that subscription price besides messages. The layout is a little confusing at first. Would have liked this app if it didn’t costs $15 a week to read messages...

Not really attractive. I found this app difficult to use

The worst don’t use. Will take your money while sending you adds for people not even in your country and hard to cancel....

The worst app.. Wants you to pay a weekly subscription to view any messages. Also, fills your email inbox with notifications from EVERY listing, not ones that are relevant to your listing i.e if you’re listing a room to rent, you receive email notifications from people also listing a room to rent. Any free listing platform is better than any this. Don’t waste your time.

So Annoying.. Hahahaha so I see a lot of the reviews are definitely paid for, none the less the app works we'll gets you to put in all your information the even let's you send a message to people . . . To view the replies you have to pay a weekly subscription. Annoying. Anyway apart from that 2 things you should change anyway, the map, allow people to zoom and move the map around, verification shouldn't require a social media verification.

Waste of time. After spending time inputting all info, I keep getting error message & it deletes all info. Unable to search for rooms. Totally disappointing & dysfunctional app.

A big scam. Don’t download and give your account details. Even if you delete your account, they still keep taking money from your account. They are the biggest scam trending now.

It’s good but.... The reason I give the app two stars is because I don’t think a paid subscription to read/reply to messages is okay especially given the housing market at the moment.

Clunky and difficult. So hard to use. Hard to add photos. Needs an upgrade.

A scam. This app doesn’t work at all. A day after I have entered all the information, I have received the notification that my account has been closed. Regardless, I am receiving every day an email saying that I have messages in my mail box. I can not unsubscribe from those emails no matter what I did. Do not install this app!

It’s so bad application. When u download u will find good choice then they will ask you to pay 15$ to can contact with the owner after that u can send message then if he reply u have to pay 7$ to check what he said it’s so crazy application even I think the rooms I find it’s fake

Confused. I find this app confusing with terminology ie. megaphone. Trying to use the sliding scale is a nuisance going from one extreme to the other. If you click the help icon you get redirected to the page to sign up for another week or more, but no advise about my question. I have never clicked the help icon yet and received a straight answer to my questions. Yours brenda

Horrible. Only buy if you want to pay 8$ a week to be able to use the app.

Unsatisfied. Whilst it toke approximately 10-15 mins to complete my advertisement, I was then removed from my account for no apparent reason.

Disappointed in a rip off.. I’m sorry but paying $17 a week just to access messages is absolutely ridiculous! I had an account for all of 6 hours and I’ve deleted the account and app.

Absolute rubbish. We signed up to this app hoping to find relevant and genuine applications for the rooms that we have in our suburb. There were many messages that were totally irrelevant to our area, from people who didn’t seem to even read our room description. I suspect this website is bogus in that they put up stock photos and send regular messages to make you feel that these are real people and that they might be interested in your place to rent. There are very few details about each person and it does not even include which suburb in Melbourne they would like to apply for. They get you to pay $14 for validation to join and $7.50 per week and it appears that they want that money every week rather than finding you a flat mate. We were disappointed in the time that we were subscribed. We have now canceled our subscription and recommend that you do not sign up. Learn from our mistakes.

Can’t get into the app without creating the same ad twice. I already made a post on Safari, I down load the app and it wants me to upload the ad again which is stupid. So now I can’t even sign in or check the notifications

Awful App. Terrible. Created my account early in the morning and got my account deleted at night without telling me why. Awful experience.

Can’t Even Login to the App. Worst experience I’ve ever had with an app. Why? Because it won’t even let me get past the login screen. No matter how many times I tap on the word login (or anything on the flash screen that appears when I click on the app icon to open the app) NOTHING happens.

Horrible. On the start page of the app, it asks me whether I want to look for rooms or put up one for offer. And I choose to put up room for offer and fill in every required information thereafter. Then it asks me to log in, and I choose google to sign in. After that it sends back to the first page again asking me the same thing again. I am stuck in this loop. This app is useless.

Scammy app. Very clearly 70% plus of the messages I receive are fake dead end messages from abroad aimed at encouraging you to keep your subscription rolling. How many people apply for a room posting between 3 and 5am? A very clear pattern with this app. Unsubscribing is difficult to impossible. Roomsters own instructions on how to unsubscribe to rolling payments is out of date and misleading. A rolling payment is the only option when signing up. As I first suspected I shouldn’t have trusted a company that advertises through aggressive Facebook spamming. AVOID THIS APP! I don’t for a second trust the positive reviews on this app.

Fraud. They get bots to put up random adds and and contact you about accommodation, And when you can’t reply to these wicked room adds because your not a member they tell you that you have to sign up So you agree and subscribe to a week, To then realise that none of the offers that you were getting reply, or are real, Then once they have you details they keep billing you even after you unsubscribed! Complete fraud Shittest app

Really uncomfortable experience. Requires WAY too much personal information before even seeing if it’s worthwhile. No way to evaluate before committing.

Don’t.. It’s probably just me, but this is the least user friendly interface I’ve ever used period. Like, it’s probably worth downloading just to see how bad it is WOOOOOOW. The fact they’ve then got the nerve to ask for you to subscribe for money is the best part!

Room. U keep talking money from my bank account I canceled it month ago stop doing this

Waste of absolute time!!. Quite stupid that you can list a room to rent in Australia but cannot select ‘Australia’ when wanting to identify yourself. Thanks for wasting my money :)

Doesn't even work.. Downloaded this app, went to go sign in through Facebook and then it comes up a big X saying email required... Where it never gave me the option to put one in. Should already have my email from my Facebook.

Very Helpful. I love using Roomster, the app is very helpful in what you are looking for.

First time in my life I’ve felt compelled to leave an App Store Review. Definitely the scammiest app I’ve ever come across. I regret uploading my ID to verify my identity because I’m confident it will be stolen when this app is inevitably hacked. If you wanna pay 16 bucks for the opportunity to message people on a worse and less functional version of Craigslist (for just 5 days!!!), here’s your chance. Ashley Madison but for hopeless saps looking for a place to live.

Useless. you have to pay to even see the messages

5star. This is great app if your looking for a room to rent. It’s very helpful, and easy to use. Definitely a 5atar

Download and thank me later. Is so nice to access and u get room of ur choice ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ ❤️ I love this app

whoever’s behind this app needs to go back to school. “too many requests” … after clicking one button. Literally haven’t been able to get past verifying my phone number after 7 attempts cause the app literally can’t handle doing that many steps in a row. Now that I’m here to say this and read the reviews, the app being absolute garbage right away was a blessing in disguise. So glad I didn’t waste anymore time

Scam app. Stupid China scam apps

Great online place to find a roommate. Good and easy-to-use app to find a roommate. Filter questions do work, and profiles are very complete. Do recommend 👍🏼

Waste of Time and Money. The app is purposeless unless you pay for a subscription in order to see messages or contact people. But there is no way of knowing if people you contact ALSO have a paid subscription and are able to view your message.

Perfect App. User and mobile friendly application for students

Scam. You have to oay to send messeges Doesn't appear to be trustworthy or even real renters on the app. All it is is a scam for your money & time

Roomster Review. The app has many options on how to find a roommate or renters. Organized and user friendly.

I bought this app and it’s totally useless.Don’t buy it. It is useless app and my experience was awful

Recommend it. The app is very user friendly. The support team is easy to communicate with.

Listen to the bad reviews. Do not bother- they charge you extra money 5 days after your subscription and the app doesn’t even work properly. Than the customer service is hard to get ahold of.

Highly recommended!!. Great app to find a roommate or a place to rent!

Convenient. A great way to keep all of your communication from different people in one simple place. No more searching through emails, text messages or other ads. Also feels more secure knowing some background information on a potential roommate.

Sketchy. No pic, no names random stupidly low or high prices not organized or easy to use

Waste of time. They want money from landlords and tenants to use this app!!! That’s telling in itself. I’m a landlord, and can see being charged as it’s not uncommon when your the one posting something to be the payer. (Job postings, items for sale, rentals etc) but there’s zero reason they should be charging renters to view places as well. They want wayyy to much personal information that screams red flags, and they make you go through a lot of time and effort before you even know you the costs, so it’s beyond frustrating. And the pricing is ridiculously expensive. Then you finally find it’s possible to post for free, but it’s pointless because you later find out (they email you) saying you have a message from your posting, but when you go to view it, you have to pay for a subscription just to see it!! Hahaha good luck staying in business with this model.

Scam. Pretty sure this is a scam. Just a complete waste of money. Would give zero stars if I could.

Roomster. I highly recommend this amazing app when searching for a place. After posting I received messages quickly.

Scam. It’s a waste of time downloading. Customer service representative are so Confused.

Scam. You cannot see who messaged you unless you pay… just post a listing on facebook or craigslist or literally any other app. Total scam

This is a scam!. Don’t add them! Useless app and they create lots fake accounts to trick you and make you believe lots of people wanting to reach out for your listing. But it’s all fake!!

Feedback for Roomster - Jayden Lachhman. The UI is intuitive and the overall app feels modern and responsive. Definitely one of the better mobile room/tenant/roommate searching mobile apps in terms of the interface.

Good app!!. Good aap to find roommate, place !!

Deceptive Money grab App. They'll automatically sign you up for subscription service without prompt and charge you if you purchase a 7 day trial. Very exploitive App preying on people urgently searching for accommodation. Very buggy App too that randomly shuts down and confusing User interface, and Web version that can't load. There's a reason they have all these negetive reviews DO NOT DOWNLOAD.

This app is a complete joke. FYI on all the good reviews on here - the company asks in its sign-up email for a positive review on the App Store in exchange for a free week’s worth of usage That’s actually just bribery In actual fact, the app is useless and you’ll basically get spam messages from a bunch of weirdos who absolutely don’t want what you’re offering Avoid avoid avoid

Appears to be a scam. Avoid.. They ask you to make a positive review of the app before you even used it in order to gain free access. None of the profiles I messaged responded but a day later I had messaged (that I couldn’t read without paying) from “people” (likely bots) that weren’t in my area.

Scam. It’s a scam. As the renter, you have to pay $8/week or $30 a month to communicate. 95% of the rentals have no photos. You have no true way to filter your search either. Trash app

Listings. I HATE how there are many listings that’s are advertised as an entire apartment or pops up when I am looking for an entire apartment, but when you click on the ad it’s a just a room. EVERY ANNOYING DONT WASTE UR TIME

Waste of money and time. I was a victim and naively clicked on a link from a facebook house searching group that lead me to paying a monthly subscription for very little interaction between people to find and nothing helpful with the “matches”. i also suddenly get a huge surge in messages right as i cancelled my subscription compared to getting maybe 2 or 3 A WEEK when i was actively promoting my listing since november and now i’ve gotten 40+ messages from tons of people i’ve never seen within the last 2 weeks. don’t even bother using this app you could literallt find better luck on facebook groups or any other online service that doesn’t need you to PAY $40 A MONTH. don’t be me

Literally no point. Allows you to post a listing but the minute someone messages you they tell you you need to pay lol so dumb. No thanks I’ll use Facebook for free :)

Homiis a better (and safer) alternative. I tried this app and Homiis, and found way more success with Homiis. The user interface is cleaner, and feels a lot safer to use.

Bad security, scammers all over the place. This app is full with scammers and it seems they don’t care about ID verification and only want you to pay subscription. And if you ever get lucky to find a real person, they don’t even reply the messages. The works experience ever. I even also would like to request my money back, what a waist of money. Zero care for the customer.

Not free after update. Time to delete this app, it wasnt any useful anyway n now asking for money. Better deliver value first n then ask for money

Roomster. User friendly app that with an intuitive design.

Scam app alert. This whole app is a scam, do not get into this one

Wonderful!. This app is incredibly useful. Prices and photos are as intended. Recommended!

disappointing app....see comment below.... disappointing app...needs to GREATLY improve....the site is soooo stale, nobody wants to use it...take a pass folks!!!

It is not working. So, I verified my phone number, email and ID, still I am requested to pay a fee to be able to see the inbox messages. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this app to anyone. It was required to give at least one star, I would rather rate it with zero!

Pay to see messages. A new app charging $16 to view messages without having an established user base is absurd. How do I even know if these messages are real or bots??

SCAM. This App is a scam, download at own risk. First they ask you for $15 to verify and then $40 per month to send messages back and forth. Not worth it and no way to get a refund.

Horrible. Horrible app. You have to pay to see your messages and they’re all scams. Pointless and so unhelpful. STAY AWAY FROM THIS APP

99% scammers and roomster will not n subscribe you till the rip you of several months. 99% of adds are scammers who want you to give credcard info or access code or pay feed for credit check and then the will rip your credit card Roomster will not unsubscribe you the will rip you off 13$ every week

Terrible. Terrible experience using this app. The app looks basic, they make you pay to see messages, and all messages are from fake/scam accounts.

Doesn’t worth your time.. This app doesn’t worth your time. Ask for private information upon use downloading, came across 2 scammers so far.

Worst app ever. This has to be the worst possible way to find a place to stay. It wants you to pay money to view any messages you get from the landlords. Absolute scam, don’t touch this app!!

Pay just to chat with the owner. You need to pay subscription just to chat with the owner of the house. Stupid

Ridiculous. For someone who is broke, homeless and trying to find a roomate… this app is ridiculously expensive

Desperate Cash Grab. This app is a joke. I understand not being able to respond to messages without paying, but not being able to read them is despicable. Especially as when you do pay to read them, they’re all spam and “megaphone” messages as they put it. It was all people who couldn’t afford the room or were in completely different counties. Support offered me a free extension as they agreed my experience was poor, and then the extension never came. So this app got $24 out of me for 14 days of absolutely wasting my time. They should be ashamed. Please don’t waste your time, you’d have better luck on Craigslist… and that’s saying something.

Okay. I think the app is user friendly and easy to use and does give a decent result when looking for roommates. In my opinion I think the rate at which it costs to view/send messages is very high when you have other free services like roomies and facebook marketplace. I actually found my current roommate through roomster because the email used to show a preview of the message and I could message back for free, but it looks like this feature has been updated and there’s no getting around paying for access.

Paid so I can see my inbox and now app doesn’t work?. I’ve used Roomster in the past before and haven’t had to many issues. Now it seems like the app constantly crashes or fails to load any of the pages. Not too mention that I have to “verify” my account each time I switch off from the app (not closing the app completely just going to a different app). Even after paying to see my inbox, the inbox won’t load messages sometimes and somehow my profile pictures were deleted? Not sure what happened to the app but there’s way too many bugs in it now for them to be charging people to use this app.

Roomster is more of a dating app. No one ever reads your profile before messaging you. So you constantly get messages by listings you don’t want. 98% of all the people with listings are men who wants FEMALES ONLY..that’s dangerous and a total joke. Most of these people ask you to text them outside of the app (which we pay so we can message without sharing our number) mostly couple looking for females and you can’t have over nite guests even though they have each other. But it’s mostly ken trying to trap women and scams trying to get you to text dangerous numbers. No one has taken this app seriously. It’s just like a dating app. No thanks

SCAM!. Hey! I would rate 0 stars if allowed. Don't EVER look for places or roommates on this app. Everything is a scam and you must pay $30 minimum to do anything really on the app that would help you. $30 dollars for barely a MESSENGER app, its nothing professional or legit. They were really snarky with me too when i asked about their price and were like “yeah, we charge for our services” facebook + messenger are free and you can do way more 🤣 its also known among the community of people looking for homes that this app is a no no, renters also have had the ability to buy fake positive reviews! You can look any of this information up with a quick google search. You can hop on facebook groups, Zillow or anything else for more reliable things that you don’t need to pay for. They also bombard you with message notifications that you can’t even view I paid the $30 so you don’t have to, and not a single person/ listing i interacted with was legit. Full of scams, fake reviews, bad deals and shady methods of going about things. Its way more cost effective and time efficient if you go elsewhere.

Great App. After viewing what seemed like 1,000 different sites in search of a reliable room finder.. I finally came across Roomster. This app is honestly amazing!! Not only are there a significant amount of rooms available in their listings, you can filter out personal preferences, and the people who post the listings are verified by more than one source. That alone is great and provides a sense of comfort when looking for a room!! Highly recommended!!

Roomster Awesome Customer Service. This app is so easy to use and you get a lot of feedback and traffic for what you need. I like the platform it is clean and organized but isn’t boring like a lot of those other apps that are bleh. You know what I mean? Also, the best part, the support team is quick to respond and help you with any questions you may have or any issues. They are very friendly. I highly reccommend this app.

Good Idea bad execution. First off I want to start off by saying that the interface is great, you’re able to choose preferences and get personalized ads quickly. However the app is useless unless you pay, and even then it’s still not all that great. I found myself paying for the membership in order to get in touch with many of the ads posted but then it turns out the posters most likely don’t even see my messages because they themselves don’t have a membership. Getting in contact with others on here is very difficult and makes the process so tedious.

It’s okay.. I like the app, but there are definitely some improvements that could be made. One is the fact that you have to pay just to message hosts. I find that pretty unreasonable given that you have to message hosts if you are interested in their rentals. That’s the purpose of the app, so what reason to charge just to communicate? Also, the pictures and quality is not the best. It’s 2023 which means you should be able to see full high quality images. Lastly, some of the hosts don’t give the best or should I say most detailed description in their posting. I think that is something that should be required.

Move On. Interesting thought: if we have pay to get messages, doesn’t that incentivize the developers (or a friendly third-party) to create bots and fake accounts to message users and encourage them to pay for the subscription? Probably. Oh, and price gouging. Gotta say, not a fan of companies that exploit your stress and fear to the hilt for a profit. Kinda makes this app feel like a pay-day loan. They’re helping you but they are profiting from your misery. There are more humane/ethical ways of making money (ads or premium add-ons, for example). Overall, tell the developers who created this mess they need to mind their moral core by not using it.

Good idea, could be improved. I love the idea of this app. I haven’t used it long, and not with any success. It seems people create listings and forget to check, and feels like there are a lot of fake listings/scammers. There is the I’d verify to help with that, and I’m sure the company is always on the lookout for the fake/scams. But also behind a somewhat expensive paywall to use effectively atm seems disadvantageous to both the company and clients. If you need to find a roomie either way I say give it a go you might have better luck than me.

Don’t waste your money. The payments are ridiculous and not worth it. I paid for a week and they re-subscribed me an extra MONTH after. I contacted them right after I was charged and did not get reimbursed for the extra 29 days I wasn’t using. So I paid $30 for 1 days. I don’t even pay $30 for streaming services a month, and that provides me a lot more than this did. Just go to Facebook instead to find a roommate where it is free. That is where I found mine. This app was useless and pricey. No one is wanting to pay that much to find a roommate so there is no one on it when it comes to messaging.

Putting the “app” in crapp. The app is great if you’re stupid enough to drop as much money as they’re asking for. If you use the free version of the app, putting up a flyer might be a better option for you. The free version, however, has as much functionality as roadkill. You can open the app and see that other people are looking for roommates, and thats it! Wanna open the constant messages you’ll get from people and the 100s more that roomster will send you daily? Pay 11$/week to do it! Wanna message someone because tou’re looking for a roommate? Pay 30$/month for that. You can do the literal same thing on craigslist or facebook marketplace for completely free, dont bother with this app

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. You’re better off finding a roommate off of Tinder than here. First of all, the app crashes very easily, constantly asking me to sign in again and again and showing error codes. Also, in order to message anyone if you’re interested in the place, you have to pay for it which is ridiculous. You’re better off going on Facebook and going FREE groups. I paid for the service because I kept notifications that people were sending me messages BUT it turned out those messages were scams and fake. The app generates the messages to entice you to sign up for the pay service. Two minutes after signing up, instant regret. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS APP.

Great concept!. The concept of the platform and service is really straight forward and allows you to not only receive messages from potential tenants, but also to message potential tenant profiles that may match your listing. Really decent communication platform. I gave 4 stars simply because sometimes the app glitches when your in messages and doesn’t update, and then you have to shut down the app and reopen and suddenly there are all your new messages. Also, I think they should require basic information to be inputted by potential tenants, because there a lot of profiles with names but no photos or no information about themselves and that just makes it so your sifting through a lot of irrelevant profiles. App is good and useful though so far.

Great app. I’ve never found such a helpful app in my life before. There is a catch though, even though it’s free, it’s not, you have to pay to see messages. Don’t think there’s a way to work around it. You can’t even type your social or the word instagram into the description never less your any number at all. So if you have the money I definitely recommend this app but if you’re looking for a cheaper option, I don’t know what to tell you man.

Deleted account. I own a home in phoenix az and I have been getting roommates with legitimate leases through Roomster and up until now I’ve had a great experience. Phoenix gets a lot of out of state transplants that don’t always know the size of the city or where the want to stay because of that my last two roommates moved out within 1-2 months (no harm no foul on anyone’s part.) I logged back into my account again to look for another roommate and it was deleted and banned “due to suspicious activity” no other word about it. I have leases and legitimate documents for all my roommates. If this is rectified I’d be happy to change my review, but i am just someone trying to find a roommate.

Tough to use but their support team did help me out. I was having a hard time using the app and left a negative review (couldn’t find it otherwise I would have deleted it), the support team did reach out to me about my negative experience and they did end up helping me out and I was able to find a pretty cool roommate off this app. Wish it wasn’t so tough to use but it makes sense since they need to try to weed out the fake profiles.

better off using facebook. i was excited to download this at first, thinking it looked user friendly… only to find out that the app requires a $10/ WEEK subscription just to message potential roommates… just an absurd price point and ridiculous to charge for this kind of service. Additionally, reading the developer’s responses to legitimate user complaints makes me even less likely to use this service to recommend to others (calling complaints ‘fake’ ??) You’re better off using Facebook groups or Bungalow. Additionally, not every app charges for their services (many use ad revenue to bring in necessary revenue), and they certainly don’t charge $10 every week. Complete scam.

Simple searching for roommates. This app is very helpful when it comes to finding potential housemates. Lots of selections in the personalized search engines is also a bonus. Had a few friends find their current roommates on here so I’m hopeful to find someone to occupy my room space. Again there’s a large pool of people so you’re bound to find someone that fits your housing situation. Be patient and it should work out.

Not good, remarkably bad in fact. There’s no free trial. It’s $10 per week or $30 per month. The majority of listings are from people who don’t pay for the subscription so they can read or respond to messages which leads to offers to connect off-app which completely defeats the purpose. There’s a megaphone option that isn’t really explained, and since you can’t send or read messages without paying most people just spam everyone with that option. The only search and sorting criterion is price. You can’t view the rentals on the map… I could go on.

Friendly interface and easy to use. So far so good, almost at my first 24 hours using the app. You DO have to pay to access the most important part of anything relating to potential roommates: Messaging them. Seems a bit too much, but then again if all I’m out is $30 for one month and I end up finding a possible amazing roommate, well it’s hard to put a price on that. So far I love the interface of the app and how user friendly it is. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏻

Updated review. I wrote a review a few days ago as I was deleted from the Roomster app not knowing why. I wrote a review because I needed to be in another city as soon as possible and was a bit stressed. I sent an email and was added back on to the Roomster app immediately on Monday. I grateful that they rectified the problem in a timely manner. Thank you Roomster. They also added a free month for the inconvenience.

Not Bad. Right off the bat I’m a fan of the interface of this app as well as the website. It’s easy and straight to the point although you may have to resize any photos you wish to post for a profile pic or of the room you are renting out if you are looking for a roommate, but that’s pretty easy. I found everything very easy to navigate as far as actually posting and have gotten lots of responses to my add so far! Would recommend.

Expensive, fake accounts and poor design. Software Engineer here and I have to say that this app is very poorly designed. On top of that you have to pay to use the most basic feature which is their mailbox or what they call “premium mailbox” $12 for 7 days which is kind of expensive. I’m there to post my listing and I received two messages from two different ID verified users who are “very interested” then when I asked when they’d want to come check out the apartment they never responded. Also it’s funny because I received these two messages right before my “subscription” expired by few hours so most likely the app sends out messages like that before the subscription is up.

Lack luster results and poor customer service. I signed up for a month it then forces you to sign up for automatic payments with the only way to cancel through emailing customer services. I have a nice property in a good area for a decent price. Only one person reached out through this app. I had over 500 people reach out through other listing sites. Not worth the money all the other ones combines were less expensive than this one. Then customer service refused to give me a refund after my cancelation and an automatic payment went through anyways. I highly recommend against using this app.

Works well to find a place but is not very nice to use, feels a bit outdated. Missing some filters. First I though I just need to download the app to find a room but then I realized I had to verify my ID for $15. After doing so I was able to message other people and ask them about their place. Still, the app wouldn’t even let me see the messages I supposedly received. After asking the support they told me I need to pay $9.99 per week to be able to use messages. What a scam! They should inform the user right away that the app is useless unless you pay for it. This app is not free!

Do not get!. This app is absolutely terrible, not only do you spend money to just view messages but you get literally nowhere with finding what you need. More than half the time people just broadcast crap to you and have certain standards about living that a lot of the time I can’t deal with ( being only female, no pets, etc) I’m not even looking to move into a house with someone I’m just looking for a roommate to move out with and this app is clearly lacking to help with that. Don’t even get me started on the scammers they keep on this site cause they’re too spineless to take them off Once again do NOT get this app absolute garbage.

Asking for money for every action is a turnoff!. The app, and the functionality seems to be pretty easily programmed for ones needs and searches, but charging someone for verification of an ID is a little bit beyond my understanding. I paid for that and then it’s asking me to make another transaction for reading somebody’s messages. The platform can’t be that hard to construct in a virtual world. I’ve picked up programming on my spare time and know how to create my own app. It just doesn’t seem what they have to offer is really worth the investment. Try at your own risk.

Not worth the aggravation. I signed up here about three months ago and have been paying for full membership. The developers will fill your inbox every day with what they think are matches for you. My ad is very descriptive and because I’m in an age restricted community there’s rules and guidelines I need to follow. So either Roomster is pushing what they consider a match for me or people just can’t read English! Very disappointed with this service and would never recommend it to anyone. Also when setting up your listing your not allowed to use numbers which is very annoying and plain stupid. If I could give less than one star I would have. Totally a waste of good money.

ENDLESS IRRELEVANT SPAM MESSAGES. This app floods your inbox with messages from unqualified unverified users who haven't actually seen your add and there's no way to turn it off or change preferences to screen these users and weed out unqualified and unverified ppl or people who are wanting to live in completely different parts of the city. Im getting bombarded with automatically generated intro messages from the app from users looking for places fifty miles away with budgets that are a third of the asking price for the rooms I have available. No actual responses from people who've seen my listings. I've contacted support and there's no way to turn this "feature" off and it essentially makes the app unusable.

Unable to receive messages endless you pay $$. I don’t like the fact that you have to pay a ridiculous fee just to be able to receive messages. We’ll technically you can get the messages, but endless you pay what I consider to be way to much money just to message back and forth with people is silly. They need to remove the fees for messaging. Or at least allow the first 5 messages you send and receive to be free and then pay a much smaller fee to get unlimited messages. The prices they have now are not worth it for like the three out four listings that fit my needs… not enough options to literally charge what they’re charging.

App is all for money. This app is useless really. You have to pay to see messages? You have to pay to do certain things on your profile? This isn’t to improve security and the creators definitely lie about why they’ve made these changes. This app has been changed to make money but only for the app creators, not for anyone using it. People need HOUSING and to make things harder through an app that charges to even see responses from potential renters is inconsiderate. They want us to pay their service fees, ALONG with any rental application charges that come. You are truly off better using Craigslist. Don’t waste your time OR money.

Great App to Find a Roomate. It’s so convenient to use Roomster to locate new roommates in a new town. For a newcomer who does not know too much about the new town, I felt dizzy when trying to lodge and situate myself there. But Roomster is a good way to help me out since it not only helps to connect me with people, but also reveals the site of housing on map to help me get a balance between pricing and distancing. All in all, great app to work with!

Good concept, needs work:. I think there should be badges that verify whether or not someone has paid for the app to talk to people. I’m happy to pay a fee to find a quality roommate but $30 for a month of chatting? I can see why there’s not more people on this app. I feel as if the people I would be compatible with either do not respond (because they’re not paying, $30 is kind of ridiculous) or the people that do respond are people that I would never want to room with.

Definitely a scam. It’s like putting a worm on a hook and swinging it over a pond of hungry fish. This app basically forces you to subscribe to see the messages and now any chance of finding a new home, a new room, or even a new roommate is gone. What’s worse is that it asks for things like your ID so now this app knows who you are, what you look like, and your address but it won’t let you even reply back to the people that are trying to help you out. That’s very sketchy; I’m better off finding a roommate on Twitter which I actually have by just looking up “looking for a roommate” on the search. Please save yourself the time.

Customer service. This app is well beyond my expectations. I’m on a fixed income and I couldn’t pay that subscription. I contacted customer service got in touch with me. We were able to figure something out to where I’m able to receive messages and talk to the people that have rooms for rent. Very fast and reliable customer service. The ppl renting out room very friendly and safe love all the little extras to verify the safety of the guests. So that’s why I gave five stars all the way around.

Roomster is great, if you’d give it a try!. At first, I was somewhat cautious regarding this app! However, too my surprise it’s much better than any other that I’ve ever tried plus it takes out the stress of searching countless different sites! They’ve countless posts for people searching for roommates and it’s very quick, easy & definitely time saving! You will not regret taking your time to search a new residence! Wish I’d of known about this app long ago!

How is this app even still a thing?. Honestly it just goes to show the lack of available apps for people to use to find rooming and roommates. I was SIGNED OUT OF MY APP after my subscription ended!!! And roomster is forcing me to create a new profile now. What, now I have to find customer support and email them to delete my profile for me? This is something that should already be built in the app, you should be able to delete your account ANYTIME YOU WANT. Now I keep receiving emails of people who've messaged me EVEN when I unsubscribed to the emails. People seriously need to stop using this app because it costs $$$ for a poor user experience.

Uneconomical and predatory. As a person struggling to find affordable housing near my job I thought perhaps I could try find a group living situation. I don’t know Many people in my area so I’d try this app. The problem is that is app completely useless without paying the $29 monthly fee. You cannot even ACCESS USER RESPONSES without this steep fee. If there was an entry fee to pay I’d be fine with that but this is just exploiting already vulnerable class. Fine example of morally bankrupt devs trying to make a buck in an already difficult housing economy. Then again I’m not a person living witin the already insane economic sphere of the big city. In which case I guess this kind of price is probably cheap compared to relative living costs.

Need filters for comfort and safety. It’s really creepy when you get messages from men twice your age offering their studio to you when your listings settings and specs have an age and gender bracket for comfort. There needs to be a way to filter out who your profile is visible to, since you have to pay to see your inbox you would think you could have better privacy settings. Additionally it automatically sent messages to like 30 people I didn’t pick, who were not in the area I was looking to move, and I a bunch of men even though I’m only looking for female roommates. Left me having to block a bunch of people and feeling uncomfortable. Definitely discontinuing use of this platform.

Stopped working. The app and the website just stopped working. Can’t load the website on any device and i have deleted and redownloaded the app countless times now. I paid for membership to be able to use the messaging in the app and the entire app doesn’t work. This cost me on getting a roommate had two about to visit but since the app went down i am unable to contact them. Also this app doesn’t allow for your number or address to be displayed so everyone has to use the app for communication. Roomster needs to fix this glitch fast, and give me another month free for the inconvenience, so i can then write a better review. But so far it stinks.

Scammers fakes and bad programming. So I tried this app and barely made any money using it there seems to be a lot of scammers homeless people drug attic’s and prostitutes on the app so I wouldn’t highly recommend it being that everybody on the app is pretty much sketchy worst of all the Apple programmers are constantly ripping people off on the money and not giving them the service that they actually purchased around into that time that problem multiple times and I’ve complained of the company also there seems to be some fake reports from people that are interested in damaging somebody else’s reputation so be very careful on this website.

Decent App Design But Poor Monetization. Roomster is a decent app in terms of user experience. It has a clean layout and is easy to use. However, its functionality needs some work. If you're a person ONLY looking for a room, there should be a way to turn off listing a room of your own. There's nowhere in the settings to turn off listing a room. Secondly, you have to pay to view messages and verify your ID, which is dumb. Some kind of all-in-one cost or subscription would be better.

Best room finder ever. Starting with the interface and layout. To how easily accessible this app is, makes it simple and straight to the point. What I like about it is its subtle and casual design and easy connection as you're on a social media platform. 24/7 customer service is by far impressive and getting verified. Simple searches that cater to your needs and such complexity to put you in the right direction. Guaranteed to find a room/roommate.

BEWARE!! MONEY GRAB!. You can't really do anything because your "approval" requires a $15 "ID CHECK". Then when you do that, you immediately get a bogus "message" from someone. Obviously this is system generated as I didn't even have a profile set up in the first minute. When you click on the message it tells you that you need to spend $9 for only 7 days of service. So a fake message gets you to spend an additional $9 for nothing. I'm trying to get a refund but their "10 minute response" has now been over 2 HOURS. So much for "24/7 support" as displayed in app. Avoid this piece of cr@p app at all costs. Bait and switch garage. Apple needs to do something about this scam.

Not that Great. I am a landlord that has try to use the app multiple times to find roommates but I rarely ever find anyone using this app. I’m not sure why I keep getting the app hoping that I’ll find a roommate when it doesn’t work. Like someone mentioned in their review, the activity is low on this app. I also feel like anytime you pay to read your messages you never receive messages but as soon as the membership ends you get a message so I do be wondering if they are doing that on purpose to get you to pay again for membership.

Bad Interface, Cost Prohibitive. I have never left an app review before but this is truly one of the worst made apps I have ever experienced. You get like 10 listings max, the search function makes zero sense, and you have to pay to message anyone. Roomster also tells you that you have messages when they’re really just people posting their own listings, so it’s purposefully deceptive about how much interest you’re receiving to get you to pay for a week or the app. Also strangely the app offers two gender options as (he/him) and (she/her), so the app developers have enough knowledge to understand the use of pronouns and gender but not enough to add a they/them option? Additionally you can’t write any numbers in the app, so you can’t even list the prices of your apartment listing half the time, how many bedrooms, etc. A mess. Do not purchase, do not download. I certainly hope app development is just a fun hobby for whoever made this because if I was this bad at my job I would probably fling myself into the sun.

Not worth paying for. Tried renting a room in My place. I had a specific preference. As I assume other ppl had. The broadcast, although it requests those preferences, still sends your information to everyone. I requested females only, but the broadcast was sending messages to the men as well. They don’t offer anything like background check. You’re paying 30 dollars a month just to view messages from random broadcasting. Not even a message actually forwarded to you. I would not forward ppl to this site.

Pay 2 Msg and still got nothing. This app is ridiculous. Just use Craigslist. My dumb self actually paid the stupid fee and still didn’t end up finding a place. Why did I even bother paying when I found a place on Craigslist easily in one day? Pretty bad that that dump of a website was more helpful than this app. Save your money and your time. There’s better help out there. Bet they give me that lame "it’s only a dollar a day" reply. I’d rather actually pay a dollar when I need to use it over paying for the week and getting bad results. At least that way if I got bad results that day I’d only lose a dollar instead
