Make app mobile phone friendly please.... I’m a huge connoisseur of The Great Course - owning 254. But the app has a few glaring issues on the iphone. The lectures do not maximize the available screen size, leaving much wasted space with no option to enlarge or zoom in like other online courses. Additionally, the course guidebooks do not allow a horizontal, enlarged view or option to increase text size, making it necessary for me to use an iPad or computer to read the text. This is most frustrating and inconvenient. Lastly, it would really be nice to have a bookmarking feature so I don’t scroll through each time I want to continue where I left off. Thank you.

Powerful Tool to Eradicate Ignorance!. The GCP is a powerful and effective tool that has provided my entire family members ranging from ages 6-80 with wealth of information from multiple fascinating lectures. I have enjoyed many courses from History to Astrophysics to cooking and more. The lectures are engaging and easy to follow (English is my second language). I appreciate the fact that I can log in from any device (10 in my account) and from anywhere in the wold! I can execute multiple daily tasks while learning. Getting stuck in traffic is no longer a waste of my life as long as I can listen to any of The Great Courses Plus lectures. The only thing I wish can be improve, is the accessibility of the lessons in each Course. It takes too many steps of I want to start from the beginning or play a previously studied lesson. In any case, the fact that one can have access to such incredible amount of knowledge at his/her fingertips is powerful!

Great content but poor delivery. I have been a Great Courses and Great Courses Plus subscriber for many years and really appreciate the content and presenters. However, although this app provides the required functionality and access to the courses, it does a poor job in the streaming of the material in that video and sound will often go out of sync several times during a single episode. Synchronization can often be re-established by pausing and/or rewinding but not always. This is particularly annoying in more complex courses (for example, “Introduction to Organic Chemistry” that I am currently watching) where it is important to be able to follow the presenter’s description of the visuals.

Great content, not at all user friendly.. First off, I want to say that I enjoy the content and love that the lecturers are knowledgeable and passionate about the subjects they teach. However, I am about ready to delete the app because of the difficulties with the interface. When I first open the app, I have 0.5 seconds before my continue watching options disappear in favor of a large “banner ad” for a recommended course. The only way I get them back is by selecting another tab and then going back to the home tab. The browse/search functions are also hard to navigate unless you know exactly what course you’re looking for. I would love to see more options to narrow down my searches. Second, the last several times I’ve tried viewing a course, I have to back out and try again every 5-10 minutes because the audio glitches and no longer syncs with the video and subtitles. Also there have been times where I have needed to stop in the middle of a lecture and when I go back to it, something glitches in the loading process and I have to start the lecture over. For a $20/month subscription the least y’all could do is give us an app that works. I love the content but I’m almost ready to cancel my subscription because of the problems within the app.

The App is very buggy. When will you fix it?. I’m impressed with all of courses available but the app itself is terrible as others have said. When I cast from the app to Chromecast, there is no good way to pause and resume because opening the app while casting causes it to lose its place and even try to play a different lecture. Once I wasn’t even touching my phone and the lecture casting was on but the phone started simultaneously playing a different lecture. It also never seems to know what I have already listened to. I have to manually forward to the where I was since it doesn’t hold my place. Surely with the number of good podcast type apps out there these developers could come up with something better than this. I probably will cancel my account at the end of the paid period because of the app. Please update us on when you plan to fix all of the problems.

Audio issues in the new update. I love the content but the new update causes any audio speed greater than about 1.25 to have an echo that amplifies to the point that listening at 2x speed is intolerable. This issue never existed prior to this update and I was able to gleefully listen to 2x speed with (relative) comfort. The courses are valuable but not valuable enough that I will listen to them at 1x speed when both podcasts and audiobooks (including audible’s great courses selection) can be comfortably listened to in 2x and even 3x speed with no issues. I think it’s funny that this “brilliant new update” completely ruined the app for me.

Just Short of Perfection. This app is great and functions well, apart from two issues: first, it does not allow audio-only downloads. Since I listen to courses primarily at work, where I have spotty cell reception, streaming isn’t an option, and since video stops playing if you exit the app or turn the screen off, I have to listen with my phone unlocked all day, which is not great for my battery life. Second, when I listen to the app it takes over the mini audio controller in the command center on my iPhone, even after I’ve started listening to music or podcasts. I have to restart the phone to get the correct audio source to display again. This also means that features like pausing without having to manually open and go into the appropriate app don’t work properly, whether I’m trying to do it from the lock screen, the command center, or headphone controls. Apart from those issues though, the app works very well, and I’m enjoying listening to lectures a lot.

So many courses!. There are so many courses on the Great Courses Plus! I love that I can download them to my phone for offline listening on long car trips. No matter what your interest is there’s probably a course, or several, on here for it. Want to be more knowledgeable about the history and politics of the US? There are several courses for that. Want to be a better parent, or understand the developing brain of your child? There are courses for that. In a college chemistry, physics, statistics, French, or art class and not understanding the concepts? There are courses that’ll help you there. I had no idea science was so interesting! It always seemed scary but the courses I’ve watched have broken down the information in easy to understand, bite sized chunks. I am a subscriber for life!

Buggy, slow, poorly designed app. This is the worst app on my phone, and that includes a super beta app for my friend’s startup where no one really knows iOS development. The Great Courses needs to hire an actual designer and some developers who can do iOS because there is so much low-hanging fruit. First off, you have to click through like 3 screens to get where you want, and it’s super easy to click the wrong thing, which wouldn’t be a problem except that it can take like 10 seconds to load up each screen. In many cases, the best way to navigate through the app is actually to force-close it and reopen to get to the home page. Add to this the video skip and sync issues and the fact that it talks 10 seconds to switch between video and audio, and 10 seconds to load up the next lecture (if it loads up at all) As a feature request, I would also like to be able to navigate through the other while playing a lecture. It would also be nice if it actually tracked and marked which lectures you’ve watched. Really, my advice to the design team would be to emulate the Podcasts app. That app has it basically right. Given these issues, I’m tempted to drop my subscription despite the great content. Audiobooks from the library are free, and I don’t have to deal with any bugged out apps.

Great content, poor streaming. If I were rating for content alone, I’d probably give Wondrium five stars. I’ve subscribed several times over the years (including back when it was Great Courses Plus) and gotten a lot out of the courses. For a streaming service, though, the app is pretty terrible. If I’m streaming from my phone to my TV and happen to unlock my phone while I’m watching, it resets the entire episode back to the beginning. The pause button often doesn’t work correctly, and then I’m scrambling to try to get the next episode to stop playing. I just feel like if you’re going to sell a streaming service and, undiscounted, charge more than any other streaming service out there, your app should at least work at the level of all the other ones. I have no problem paying for content and I’m happy to pay more for high-quality content — but if you charge a premium price and deliver a subpar technical experience, you need to make some changes.

Signing in is a major problem every time. I love The Great Courses and Plus is an awesome deal, but I am fed up with having to enter my email address and password every time. It isn't saved to my keychain, which would make things much easier, and remembering me on my own device would be wonderful. Its a shame the developer hasn't implemented those options. I guess I'll have to be reminded how annoyed I get putting in my full email address and password every time I use the app, even if I pause a lecture for a few minutes. Update: I can report that my log in is now remembered from visit, so my earlier complaint is happily resolved!

Generally great, but…. I’m a power user and have watched dozens of courses, some more than once. The app has improved over time, but has one critical flaw- though you can download courses for offline viewing, you need a connection when opening the app before you can start watching your downloaded content. I learned this recently when I tried to watch the hours of content I’d saved for a long flight and found myself unable to access anything. This is incredibly frustrating and makes the download function pointless. Please fix this for those of us who travel frequently and want to bring Wondrium with us!

Great potential, sunk by multiple bugs. I’m a longtime Great Courses student (and supporter), and I’d love to heartily recommend this app, but after taking it on a long car trip I was so frustrated I was tempted to sail it out the window. With a long ride, often in heavy traffic, all I needed was for the app to continue playing the episodes in a course, and what I got was one or two episodes before it would stop and tell me that if I wanted to continue I had to subscribe. (Despite being signed in to an active account.) Then I had to exit the app, restart the app, and then find the course and episode all over again. (All while navigating an Interstate.) In addition, episodes would start in odd locations, again prompting a dangerous one handed juggling act. Good news? It’s not as bad as their one star Apple TV app. Bad news? A company with so many wonderful educational offerings can’t seem to get their tech act at all together. For $20/month, users deserve so much better.

Math courses are phenomenal!. I cannot tell you how wonderful the math courses with Dr. Sellers are. My oldest (14) has always struggled with math, and as a homeschooler, I’ve tried different techniques and curriculums to help him. This is the first time I can tell that a real lightbulb has come on and he’s truly getting it. And I’m finally understanding things that I struggled with in school, too! The way he teaches is just fantastic. I love that he talks in a normal conversational tone, not patronizing or as if he’s teaching children. And he explains everything THOROUGHLY and clearly. He gives you the techniques in detail step by step and gives 2 or 3 examples. Then he gives you a problem to figure out. He goes over that problem in detail just like the others, so that if you do make a mistake, you can see where you went wrong. But so far, neither my son nor I (because I started doing it with him because it’s so great) have made mistakes because by that time we are clear on how to do it. Except one time when I made a dumb counting error lol. Thank you so much, Dr. Sellers and Wondrium. You are turning a teenager and middle aged adult who have both always hated and struggled with math, into interested math scholars!

Lacks fundamental design. Unfortunately this app lacks some core usability features which make it very frustrating to use the app. When viewing classes in a list, if you tap into one class for more details, when you return to the list of classes you are forced back to the beginning of the list and always lose your place. This makes me not want to spend very much time exploring the app. Also, when you tap to add a class to your watchlist the wait time is very long. Another frustration is that sometimes when I try to download a class guidebook the app doesn’t do anything and other times it works as designed. This is very frustrating when I am wondering if the app is doing something in the background but nothing is indicated on the screen. Lastly, the website for this company does not recognize when I am signed in so I am unable to add items to my watch list. This is an essential feature and quite intolerable.

Great Content, Bad App. I LOVE the content of this app. However, the app has two glaring deficiencies. One, when you’re listening via Bluetooth and someone calls or you call someone, the app DOES NOT PAUSE. Even if you pause BEFORE you answer, it will start playing AFTER you answer. Every time. When you’re driving, this is distracting at best and dangerous at worse. Two, and this is intermittent, but when you open the app, sometimes the Continue Watching area does not show up on the Home Screen of the app and the only way you can listen to your last episode is to either search for the series again or have it added to your Watchlist. Other podcast apps don’t have these problems, so I’m assuming it would be an easy fix, yet these deficiencies still exist. Please fix these issues in an update soon!

App is bad; Catalog is good. To be clear upfront, this low rating does not relate to the content library. If you want academic and instructional content, the catalog is good. My problem is with video playback in the app, which is terrible. I’ve unsubscribed multiple times because it’s such a pain trying to watch video in this app. For some reason, the video plays smoothly but the audio occasionally skips back a couple of seconds such that the audio and video are out of sync. I have to then exit the video and resume it. And I’ve tested to make sure it’s not the videos themselves—I’ve rewound over the bit that skips and it doesn’t skip again in the same place the second time around. It’s also happened in multiple different video series, both on my phone and on my Apple TV despite having deleted and redos loading the app. The only reason I didn’t give the app a one star review is because I suppose it could be worse, but honestly it’s enough to ruin the service for me.

Am I watching an infomercial?. I have only watched one lecture series at this point so I could be way off base in my criticism but the whole time I felt in the back of my mind as if I was being scammed. I really dislike the way the way the lecture I watched was presented. The setup was way too contrived. I would much prefer a professor standing at a podium and giving me the straight up facts and not someone being coached to “use your hands”, “start this segment sitting down and then look at the camera as you get up and walk to your mark”. It seems illegitimate to me. I do love the content however. I use to order audio cds from The Teaching Company years ago. I’m pleased to find this format. For myself, however, I may need to just listen and not watch!

App glitch ended up destroying my data overages!. I got this app for a road trip and proceeded to download a bunch of lectures (on wifi) for the drive. I then made sure that I turned off the ability of the app to use cellular data and to warn me if it was using cellular data. The app nicely has two options to do that in their settings. About six hours in to the drive, I noticed I had six text messages from Verizon notifying me that I had gone over my data for the month, repeatedly. Despite those settings, the app continued to download content over my cellular network and cost me nearly $70 in data overage fees. I contacted their tech support and they were extremely helpful at first, before going completely silent. They have no longer responded to any of my emails after responding promptly to the first few. I have screenshots and emails of all the exchanges saved on my computer and nobody will help me out. Plus the lectures that I did get weren't that good anyway. Certainly not worth the $70 I ended up paying.

Fix the audio sync issues!. I have used GCP/Wondrium for years and love it! But for the past 6 to 8 months a VERY annoying issue has arisen with the Apple TV app. I can usually watch 8 to 10 minutes of a video then the audio does a brief repeat of prior seconds then stays out of sync with the video thereafter. The only way to fix it is stop and resume the video and hope it doesn’t do it again 8 to 10 minutes later. This has been going on for 6 to 8 months at least. FIX IT! I would hate to have to cancel my membership after many years .. but this is annoying enough a problem to make it necessary.

Love the content, app can be clumsy. I love the Great Courses Plus. The caliber of teachers as well as the amazing content that is constantly coming out is fantastic. I think there are some things about the app though that I wish would be easier to navigate. Mostly, I wish there was a way to select a course that I began watching and go to the course page instead of just going straight to a video. I like to see the next few lectures or just cherry pick what I will watch. Little things like that just make the app a bit clumsy feeling and not quite intuitive as I would like. But the content itself more than makes up for it. I also love the audio option for when I’m in my car, it’s a fantastic option to have.

I have tested software for 30 years and this is really poor quality.. I’m an early adopter of this app and have watched it go downhill. I don’t have this issue with any other of my many streaming services. They need a better datacenter and to fix bugs. While the catalogue is great, using the app on an iPad or AppleTV is often miserable. The sound track gets out of sync and restarting the app doesn’t help. Over a year ago, tech support told me to uninstall and reinstall which is a major pain when using an AppleTV as it will work for a month or so. Sometimes after an update or reinstall the app shows icons for content but when clicked on, there is an error message that it cannot be found. The only fix seems to be to use a web browser to add it to one’s watchlist. Lately I have resorted to downloading lectures on an iPad to watch but they is slow and defeats the purpose of streaming on a TV. I have had this issue with tvOS 14 and 15 and using iPadOS 15 on the latest iPad Mini Gen 6 and even Chrome on an MacBook Pro with 32 gb of ram.

Love Great Courses!. With Great Courses I have the ability to take my Learning on the go with me! I can listen to lectures while driving using the audio only feature, or watch the video with headphones while on an airplane or bus. I also like that lectures are structured to be 30 minute sessions so I can easily do a session a day and work through classes I’ve always wanted to take. I have found the teachers to be interesting and able to convey content in an easy to understand and meaningful way. From gardening, to classical music, to the history of Jesus, the diversity of Courses is inspiring me to keep learning!

Great content but apps needs some improvement. I have been a long-time supporter and student of The Great Course so I already know and trust your content. Please continue to improve the iOS app. Especially with features such as multi-tasking (iPAd Pro) so that I can watch a course and view the pdf lecture outline or take notes at the same time. Also, the user interface and download manager needs improvement. I would like to be able to organize my courses and have the ability to view other course materials (i.e., PDFs, etc.) within the app. Lastly, the downloads take an incredibly long time (sometimes more than 30 minutes to download a 30 min lecture), even with the lower quality option selected. I trust you are already aware of most of these things and working on future updates. Thank you.

User experience is terrible. After buying TGC from audible for so long I was excited to subscribe to THC+ and binge on as much content as possible. Unfortunately this app is a terrible user experience for all the reasons all of the other reviewers have already mentioned. It's obviously not a native app on iOS. Fuzzy and improper resolution on my iPhone 6, video cuts out when you multitask or lock phone, no audio download. Coming back to the app doesn't bring you back to where you where. Multiple course downloads starts playing a different course after completing a lecture instead of streaming the next lecture in a series (frustrating). The list goes on... so bad in fact that I feel like asking for a partial refund since I paid for multiple months in advance. Didn't think a bad app would have caused me to wish I hadn't subscribed at all but here we are...

The answer to “I want to know everything”. This is an amazing collection of knowledge at your fingertips in virtually all subjects. Finally a source that is informative and entertaining. I am annoyed by the usual slow and repetitive nature of most documentaries that you see on TV, that usually provide information that can be summed up in a few well constructed sentences. I think they do not understand their audience. Not these lectures. Well done, thank you! I listen to these in the car, or while I am shopping or in the evening at home. My children listen to lectures on Math, or on how to become a star student, and it is appropriate for all. Thank you for a wonderful and affordable product. I have recommended this to all my friends.

Love the courses, the app needs work. To start, let me say that the courses offered by the teaching company have been uniformly outstanding. Interesting and informative, I am continuing to enjoy subjects I never had time for in school. Prior versions of the app had stability and “freeze up” problems, but the latest version seems to have solved those. My only real complaint is that when I am listening to a lecture and get a phone call (iPhone) the lecture does not stop, requiring me to tell the caller to hold on while I change from phone to Wondrium app and stop the playback. Sometimes even when I am not listening the lecture starts up when I answer the phone. Very annoying, Please fix!

Okay but needs improvement. Generally, the app functions okay. But there are details that reflect some absence of thought by designers on the actual user experience. My biggest gripe: the app jumps to new course offerings every time I close out and later restart it. I have to go digging for the course I’m currently studying. And the only—or at least most efficient—way to find it is to go find my watchlist and search for the course in there. If I happen to start a course before or without adding it to my watchlist, I find it difficult to get back in to my course after closing out the app. It seems this is a simple, obvious issue that would have been glaringly apparent to anybody that thinks of the design with the user in mind. Fix this problem, at least, and my thoughts of the app would probably improve.

Wonderful content, app lacks functionality. I love these courses and was thrilled when I realized I could keep learning new things with this subscription. I use it constantly. But, the app is far from intuitive. I keep checking to see if I’ve missed an update, but there have been no improvements in the 18 months or so that I’ve subscribed. I can’t choose to download an entire course for audio, which I would love because I would listen in places that I now cannot due to lack of signal. But the biggest problem is that EVERY TIME I open the app I must search for the last thing I was listening to and play from there. In short, there is no “now playing” or “continue” option. I must go to my watch list, which is still not in order of my last watched, search through my many watched courses, touch it, then again on the play button. Even if I’ve only closed it for a moment, there is no memory or easy way to continue. I do this many times a day. It’s a bit maddening. This is fantastic content and I’m so glad it’s available to me at this price. But I admit that I hesitate to share it with others because of the lack of functionality.

Expensive but worth it. I have been a Great Course customer since the beginning (when they were called The Teaching Company) and I have never been disappointed by a course. I love that I can stream courses online and can watch whatever is striking my fancy at the time. It's an investment...in yourself! The app is a little glitchy though—it sometimes “forgets” my place in a course and I have to fast forward to find where I left off. Developers, it would be helpful to have a lecture list readily available after you start a course like you see when browsing.

The Story of Human Language. This subject was chosen by my 16 year old granddaughter as a focus for our hour long drive to school each day. She is now into her fourth day of listening and absorbing the information. I am fascinated by what I hear but can not focus on the visual presentation aspect of the lectures because I am driving. The evolution of language, on the other hand is a great contrast to ideas planted in my brain under the conceptualization of a Divine act in the dispersal of the human population and the confounding of languages. I will need to revisit this subject when I have had my fill of other evolutionary content relative to life producing chemicals of Mother Earth. This is a fantastic link to knowledge and I am re-education myself at a very late point in life; 70 years and growing!

Excellent Continuing education for pleasure or profit. I have been using Great Courses from its previous format years ago, when I ordered entire sets of audio cassettes. Today, I love the app as it allows me to pick and choose lectures to save on my phone, for road trips. When I first mentioned it to my kids, who are middle schoolers, during a road trip, their response was no, not boring lectures. I asked for a 5 min silence to listen to a clip and then it was “hush dad, don’t talk over the lecture”. As continuing education around my interests in history arts and cultures, it is an excellent resource. I highly recommend this app.

Good content but app seems buggy. Sometimes it doesn’t sync properly across devices, starting further back in a lecture than where you left off - and sometimes you can’t even fast forward to where you were; it just keeps jumping back, forcing you to re-watch parts you’ve already heard. You can’t download just the audio, only video, which is not too convenient if you are listening while driving unless you want to get a ticket for watching video while driving, because you can’t switch the downloaded video to audio only. Exit the app and when you go back you have to navigate back manually to where you left off, it does not automatically show the lecture you were on and offer to continue. It doesn’t even have the course you are on on the front page when the app opens. If you exit the app while watching a video to, say, read a message or google something, it stops playing; you have to manually switch to audio only then exit the app to keep listening. So, several frustrating clunky inconveniences or bugs, but I’m enjoying the content of my first course.

Small glitch using the app but great service.. I’ve been using the app for a week or so and have browsed all the content. There are a lot of different topics and I hope more to come. There is a small glitch I’ve had issues with a few times though. After pausing the lecture for several minutes sometimes when I come back to it the app has frozen or something and I can’t resume the lecture or even go back to the previous page. I have to completely close the app and then open it again and go to the corse again to listen. It happens maybe about 20%. This is a little annoying but over all I really enjoy this service.

Too good to not incorporate into your life.. I’ve enjoyed great courses for years. It is so pleasant to watch a stimulating course at home and expand one’s world view. I’ve taken courses from all areas: Science, literature, history and philosophy, music appreciation, religion, math, cooking, knitting and dog training. And I have liked them very much with only a couple of exceptions over many years. Yes, the dynamic of watching at home vs the dynamics of a classroom is something I miss but it would be impossible to afford or even find all the courses I have taken at a local college. The instructors are so knowledgeable and clear in their communications. And NO EXAMs!!! They enhance my quality of life and I have been so glad they are available.

Unable to view downloaded content. Why am I still unable to view downloaded material?!? It's obviously a problem because so many people are complaining about it. You need to fix it as soon as possible! You are taking our money for subscriptions every single month, but you are NOT delivering what you promised to deliver; specifically, the ability to view downloaded content when not connected to the Internet. Are you going to provide partial refunds to all of your subscribers because we are unable to view downloaded content? That's what I'm paying for; however, that's not what I'm getting. You are not giving me what I am paying for. Please let me know at your earliest convenience, as I've contacted an attorney regarding this breach of contract and he's eager to get moving if there isn't a resolution soon. Thanks for advance for your cooperation. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Regards, Here we go again. Another subscription app forces paying subscribers to use a faulty "update" that doesn't work and wastes our time. Newsflash: TGC- You're now in breach of your contract with every single one of your subscribers. Nice job. Hurry up and fix the app before someone gets frustrated enough to litigate. Going forward, if you're going to force an update, maybe roll something out that doesn't crash and completely ruin your paying users' experience. Just a thought. Thanks for taking my money every month and wasting my time. CM

Update locks you out,no help from customer support. The update promised long awaited features, so I foolishly updated. Without warning, the update requires a password reset. It says that an email will be sent with instructions and a link. The email says it is in response to my request to reset my password. It has no instructions, but does have a link to reset password. Unfortunately, when you click that it just takes you to the login screen with no option to reset. Using either your old password or a new one just gets an identical email. Hitting “contact customer service” gets an auto reply that they are experiencing high volume (I bet) and will try to get back to me in 72 hours. Weekends don’t count, so I guess I can kiss one of the 4 weeks I have already paid for goodbye. At best. Great. I have put up with literally years of lags, crashes and delays in adding content from the legacy app. But for twice the price of my next most expensive streaming app, I think it should, you know, work.

Michael. Great courses indeed offers great content. However, I am writing this review so that someone at Great Courses might please improve their app. The downloads are mind-numbingly slow. You can’t do anything else on your phone while the downloads are in process or they shut down. And don’t let the phone go into sleep mode because that also shuts down the downloads. And after an average of 8 minutes per course download, make sure you are online before you start watching the downloads, not online content mind you, but the actual downloads have to be verified online before watching or the episode won’t play and your 3 hour flight time is now sans great courses. And I hope you must have tiny fingers and superhuman accuracy as you press icons in the app or else it will kick off a series of processes having nothing to do with your intention. Great Courses, please redesign your app consistent with your great content and over 100$ annual subscription. Please!!

Overall decent app.. This review is strictly about the app and not the content at all. Firstly, I very much appreciate that an app for Wondrium even exists. And secondly, it is a decent app. But finally: it could be better. And my better I’m only going to refer to things that at least to the end user are probably obvious. For starters, the app is not persistent enough, if I don’t lock my phone with it on my screen it often times will not restart when I try to resume from my AirPods. Second, it’d be so great to be able and download an entire series in one fell swoop and not have to tap download to every single episode, which can sometimes be up to 50 times! That’s it, just these three things would make many users very happy I’m sure of it!

Good Content, Slow to Stream. Content is great, but it’s slow to stream. The first lecture I start streams fine but when it comes to streaming the next part of the lecture automatically, there’s often a 5-10 minute delay before it will start. Often times, when it doesn’t finally start, it will have skipped over 3 or 4 parts of the lecture. So, lecture 1 completes and lecture 5 starts streaming after 10 minutes of silence. I don’t see a particular reason for the slow transition, especially with full bars of LTE coverage. Anything else seems to stream fine; Apple Music, Pandora, 3 hour podcasts, but Great Courses Plus has issues and delays constantly. That would be my primary concern and a reason I may no continue. After all, the TED talks app is free, streams more readily and has similar, if not more expanded, content. I’m still in the air, but expect a more fluid experience for what I pay.

Content can’t be beat! Glitchy App.. The quality of the content found here is, in my opinion, unparalleled. Real lectures by the people who know the topic best, actual college professors. Unfortunately, the app is unreliable and is missing some basic features as so many others have noted. The same content from The Great Courses/Wondrium can also be found on audible and I have opted to stream from there until the app works more efficiently. Although it’s going to cost a bit more there depending on how many of their classes you decide to listen to in a month. I am able to listen during my work hours so I burn right through them and have listened to 40-50 of their different classes. Yes, that’s at least a few hundred hours of content I’ve stream but I’ve really enjoyed the lectures. Ive mainly listened to courses on history and music. If you enjoy learning…just about anything… their courses are a great place to start!

Your update was a headache. I updated this app today and was forced to change my password, sent a reset link, clicked the link and received a server side 502 bad gateway error. My first question I, why am I being forced to change/reset my password? Was there a data breach that I’m not being told about? As far as all the philosophical reviews for this app are concerned, let’s not do that. The app functions like a media player with added features for course tracking. The content is superior to most other offerings and the teachers are prominent leaders in their fields. I would’ve given this five stars but the update ruined that option, for me.

One of my favorite apps. I love the big learning library available through this app. The topics range from ancient history, art, business, psychology, math, playing guitar and even religious studies. There's something for any mood. The downside with previous versions was that the content was video-only and if you locked your phone, it would close down the playback. With this latest version though they've added audio streaming , which works when the phone is locked. Now you can have a great lecture anywhere and I'm listening to a newly added lecture on Emotional Intelligence as I type this. I think there are more improvements that can be made to the app. e.g., better watched-synchronization between devices, but overall this is a great app that makes accessing the wealth of content a blast.

The service is great; the app upgrade is a botch. The upgraded app requires you to reset your password. A robot sends a reset link in an email, which is already expired immediately upon arrival - a matter of seconds. I went through this exercise four times before giving up. That’s true if you try to reset your password through the app or through the website using Safari. I finally got the job done by finding a desktop, and doing it there. When you try to reveal the password on the input form, it helpfully shows you a bunch of dots, not the characters you’ve input. There is no chat support, and I am many time zones away from the US, at the moment. I am sure that all of this will prove to be transitory, but what a pain! The sequence is supposed to be test first, then release, people.

Courses are amazing, but the app is horrifically glitchy. I LOVE the Great Courses and all they have to offer, but this app is only barely functional. Sometimes it works fine, but frequently the videos freeze and won’t load, or else they stop to buffer every few seconds. Then there are the times when the video keeps playing just fine, but the audio goes completely dead or just skips every couple of words. I really, really hope this issue will be fixed, because the content is incredible. It says a lot that I use this app so much in spite of its problems, though I frequently have to give up and try again later if I want things to actually play properly. Another thing that I would very much love is if the written material for each course could be accessed through the app itself, rather than having to log into the website separately to download the materials. This is a small issue, though, compared with the constantly freezing videos.

Loving the content in the app!. Covid has encouraged my husband and me to work on projects together. I am a crafter, and he is a gardener. Combining these two talents, we found that Garden Railroading is the perfect combination for us. Our biggest problem is starting. We wanted to start in a small section of our garden and then expand as funds become available. A course showing us tips, and tricks, and procedures for this (similar to your quilting courses) can save us oodles of time and money. As of now, we are working by trial and error. How about a new course on Garden Railroading?

Nice app, great content. I’ve enjoyed The Great Courses for some time now. Having recently started using the app, I appreciate that I can access everything via my phone. At present however, the app itself suffers from some clunky UI and UX. Some examples: 1.) Upon opening the app, one has to navigate back to the lecture they were last listening to. Why not start there (as you might do via a podcast app) and provide a navigation option back to the main course listings? 2.) As a mobile user, one might assume that I would want to use the download feature to preload my current course for viewing later rather than use my data. I’d love a “download all lectures for this course” button. Additionally, I shouldn’t have to reconfirm via a pop-up prompt that I want to download a course. 3.) The video UI often stutters and freezes when re-opening the app with the phone in landscape mode. I don’t want to sound overly critical. None of things I’ve come across are deal breakers. But another round of revisions to smooth out the wrinkles of the app would go a long way.

Great content and features, despite usability impairments. I love this app and service. I like that new content is being added and I particularly like the audio-only mode. I will be a subscriber for long time, but have three more (necessary) usability requests and two suggestions. (1) allow users to browse the app while audio programs are playing. Right now, the only way to browse for other content within the app is to stop the program. This does not follow the iOS HIG. Also, please change the player to the native iOS media players. (2) performance improvements, particularly background battery drain. I’m unsure why this app is such a battery hog, even when content is downloaded in the background. (3) for browsing, a better system is needed. I’d suggest filtering options (including one for “percent seen.” The current “Netflix” style of browsing is painful and slow. These are just ideas, but I think they would be awesome to add after the usability problems have been addressed! (4) note-taking during content and live closed captioning should be added and integrated for future reference, given the service’s educational focus, this would be a boon for studying or looking back on past materials. (5) ratings and reviews for content, simple thumbs up, thumbs down. Would help in finding quality content when there is overlap in available programming.

Far fewer courses than before? App VERY buggy. I can’t help but think there are far fewer courses in the catalog than when I last subscribed about a year ago, before the branding change. Still $20/mo but *really* seems feels like a limited and sparse array of content than before. There were a lot more history courses last time. What gives? Where’s the rest? Why the branding change? Why charging same amount if you’re reducing the library? The app has many amateurish bugs. Off-by-one index errors, one course now consistently crashes app iff I tap on it on the Home screen but not if located otherwise, weird random stop/pause. The biggest annoyance is when not on wifi (and have downloaded some chapters, if I pause playback, I have to unlock phone, go to app and it behaves like it’s launching anew then tells me it’s not on network (yeah, duh) then I have to tap downloads then try to remember what chapter I’d been listening to then hope it remembers where I left off. More fun is when off-by-one index error has cropped up (not consistent!) then you get to figure that out. So for heaven’s s sake do not pause?!? Don’t worry it will keep playing in background for every single notification announcement that comes in, so you get to try to differentiate between the two voices. Come on those are amateur bugs.

Good Content...App in Unusable. The GreatCourses has lots of good content. Unfortunately the content is locked with and one of the most atrociously buggy interfaces I've ever experienced. The app is literally on usable 80 to 90% of the time. For example, on my iPad I attempt to tap the screen to play, pause, or advance once a video is playing and the screen has inexplicably locked me out. The only way to remedy this is by hitting the home button and exiting the app. Meanwhile, on my iPhone I literally can't access any content because it says that I need to purchase a subscription, which I've already purchased. I tap the purchase button again in hopes of the app recognizing that I've already made the purchase and I receive confirmation that I indeed already have a subscription, I click OK and then nothing happens. I still can't access any videos, despite having an active subscription.

Excellent. I love The Great Courses plus. My only recommendation is to have varying speed button eg 1.5x

Knowledge is Entertainment. Since the days when my Dad bought me Prof. Rick Roderick's classes on cassette, I've been right into the Teaching Company. Now, to have so much content on command, well, feels like a lottery win. Thank you Great Courses, good going. Never stop doing what you do.

Love The Great Courses. I have loved The Great Courses content for some time and now, instead of purchasing courses individually I can subscribe and access all the courses I want! 4 star rating? My only criticism is you cannot download lectures for viewing at a later time, otherwise it would be a 5 star app.

Like podcasts but better. Just fantastic. Makes my drives to work better than ever - I’ve already learnt so much and am keen to learn more!

The best thing I have ever subscribed to!. I am enjoying all your videos. What a wonderful collection of courses. Perhaps my only criticism is that there is no way to contact the lecturers to ask questions...

The Courses are great. App not so good. The lectures in The Great Courses Plus are superb. If I was rating the app on the course content alone I would give it 5 stars. The app itself though has many bugs. The main one is that it does not automatically play the next lecture in the course that you are listening to. This is annoying, particularly if you are listening while driving. I have turned Autoplay Next Lecture on in the settings and turned off Stream Only on WiFi but it makes no difference. I have also downloaded the latest version of the app (5.2.2) hoping this bug would be fixed but it is still occurring. Other bugs are it often loses track of where you are up to in a lecture and goes back to the beginning. It sometimes loses track of which lectures you have already listened to and marks them as unplayed. It doesn’t pause the lecture when a phone call comes in. And the Play Controls when your phone is locked don’t include the 15 second rewind button or the 30 second advance button. Hopefully this app will be improved soon. I love the actual courses.

Can’t restore apple subscription. Keeps dropping link to iTunes subscription. No instructions on how to restore the link. Shut out of an expensive subscription, not happy.

Great courses, app is the worst though. The app interface looks clunky and very dated. Constantly freezes, then crashes and starts the course from 0:00, am unable to skip forward at all. Very unstable connection to Chromecast Ultra. Have very fast broadband connection, so that’s not the issue here. How such an expensive subscription service can release such a crappy app is beyond me. Invest some money in better engineers and coders, this is really not worth spending the money on when the app is so unreliable! Running latest iOS 13.4.1 on iPhone 7 Plus and iPad Air 2. Casting to TV via Chromecast Ultra. 2 stars for now until I see a major overhaul of the app.

Awful interface. If only this app had the same quality of interface as Audible.

A Wonderful resource.. I own several of the older great courses on DVD. I no longer buy them as they were mostly overpriced for what was a staid old fashioned form of presentation. The new streaming service brings the whole breadth of the resources to me. I can roam and explore and dip into lectures and study in a more free fashion. The newly produced courses are invariably better presented, but some are a little light weight and magazine style in depth. The title ‘Professor’ is a little bit of hyperbole in some cases. ‘Professor of photography’ for example. Nevertheless a fantastic resource. Spend your monthly money on subscribing to Great Courses plus rather than Netflix - if you have to choose!

Learn for the love of learning. Whether it’s history, languages, food, art, science or philosophy there’s something for anyone who wants to learn. It’s a terrific complement for my science degree, I can brush up on computer programming, Latin, Botany, Astrophysics (NdGT FTW). The Great Courses will also send out a ‘learning path’, courses that make up a standard minor, with the flexibility to choose something different if you want to go in another direction. Economics, Architecture, Gardening, Music... You’ll find something that will get you interested.

Brilliant!. This app is incredible, definitely worth the money. Just imagine a university in your pocket. Done you can learn anything anywhere. 5/5 Brilliant.

Chris N. Very good. Definitely something worth getting. I got rid of cable TV after getting this. I wish they had an modified audio version of this so I can just listen while moving.

Best investment I ever Made. The Great Courses Plus for me is like a new lease on life. The professors are across the board brilliant and I love being able to pursue a wide variety of areas of interest. Learning in my own time has given me just what I needed, a brain massage of continued learning without the pressures of classrooms, assignments and pursuing a set course of studies.

This is great. A fantastic opportunity to access some great courses. I am loving this. I have deducted a star because quite frequently when you go on to the next lecture, it will start half way through instead of the beginning. Also if I exit a lecture it will revert to portrait mode even if I'm watching in landscape. To me they are small annoyances but it would be great if they fixed them.

Great content but needs more bandwidth. World beating content but won’t load like Netflix.

Great courses, Not so great App. Wonderful range of course material, subscription model is great for knowledge hungry individuals. However the app has several notable short coming I do hope they address sooner rather than later. Browsing courses is very clunky, generally and even when save to downloads or watch list there is no practical option for sorting the courses. Streaming is terrible and I rely heavily on downloading lectures. And there is no course material available, which is annoying when it is referred to in the lecture. Otherwise, I’m happy to see this content available and would like to see it continue to be updated.

Confused. Great content. Naming conventions off. ie ‘Great for audio” has video only content Not user friendly. Audio book like function would go a long way

Really worth it. For 20 dollars a month I am able to access a whole range of entertaining topics. Much better value than having to purchase individual courses. Well done!

Free Trial Fail. Subscribed to do a free trial because i was excited to play some videos, but it always says “subscription failed”. Can you help me fix these?

Teachers Speak to you!. The teachers says all the things you want to ask!

Excellent Resource. I’m 80 years old and love to learn. The Great Courses Plus provide me with a plethora of quality courses with top class teachers in the comfort of my home. I’m currently writing my memoirs and the course on writing creative non-fiction has been inspirational and has enabled me to gain a new skill. Sincere thanks!

Great service to mankind and It should be free. Great service to mankind and It should be free and interesting to learn more. So please make this happen soon

Paid a subscription for this?. App hasn't been updated for over 12 months. Videos skip to next lecture on iPad Pro iOS 10. Thought I'd try the app since website doesn't seem to work on the iPad either. Please fix either one of these. Removing subscription until this happens.

Terrible customer service. I paid to renew this subscription after a few months away. They took my money but never gave me the content. I’ve sent many emails, receipts and screenshots to the developer who has been very unhelpful and generally unresponsive. This also happened last year and they never responded to my email then, so it isn’t about the current Covid situation, it’s just very bad customer service. Also, there is now a lot more competition for this type of service and much of GCP content is very old and dated. It was frustrating to have paid renewal and not gotten the content, but I probably didn’t miss much as I had stopped watching the last month my account was active.

Out of Date. In a time when Netflix has such initiative user interfaces it amazes me that companies such as this can’t seem to figure out how this works.

Lack of being able to minimize the screen is crazy. i seriously love the courses but what a disappointment to see that the new wondrium (btw awful name) is still unable to minimize ! Guys you had one job to do ! please update the app to ensure that the videos can be played minimized (and not just audio) !

Download audio only. No option for audio only after downloaded. Battery killer in the car.

Unable to login. Unfortunately, I can not start the 14 day trial to try the courses and see if I will like the app. Looks like it could have been interesting if it worked.

Informational, But The App Is Infuriating. After multiple attempts, app constantly says that I have to be a member when I’m already subscribed as one, thus, not allowing me to play any any video. What’s the point of being one one of the best sources of information when the app is is glitchy and therefore can’t access the content?

“Changed my life” is an understatement. Lots and lots of very useful stuff from these courses have made me into a totally different person with a new broad and powerful outlook on life’s many problems.

Great source of entertainment!. I don’t go to movies or concerts often at all, so subscription to this program is my year-round entertainment. Totally worth the money. As a bonus, I can find out that becoming a mathematician is not a good idea for me, before I decide to go back to school to take math courses. I dropped out from the first lecture...

Great content. However, the app is due for a refresh.

Incomplete Courses and Terrible Service. I’ve contacted these folks about materials their courses refer which are not available anywhere on their site on multiple occasions with zero response. Considering the monthly cost you would think they’d be more responsive. Courses are useless if you can’t access materials a lecturer refers to.

Thx for price. lowering. I’m disabled & poor, but even with visual + memory loss, I have a thirst for knowledge. 5 stars if I can ever just download the audio.

Constantly getting stuck on home screen. For some reason it is getting stuck at home screen and the only solution seems to force a full reboot of the cellphone

Can’t sign in. I can sign in via the website on my laptop but cannot sign in on the app as apparently I have an invalid sign in despite it working perfect fine on the browser. Super frustrating as I can’t access any downloads

Nasty. Blocking return to codycross even after I was forced to install.

A valuable service. Knowing that this service exists is enough to deprive any person of their excuses for ignorance. Since so many deep courses are available so cheaply and easily there is no reason, none at all, for anyone not to know anything. It's great to see that the only limit on our higher learning is the hours in the day. Thanks GCP!

Miss. Could have been good but missed the Mark not enough information on some topics and some not in list $180 for year way to much

Buggy app and streaming. Content looks great, hobbled by glitchy app, particularly when trying to stream to a TV. Get it together.

Content is good but the app needs serious work. Content is good but the app needs serious work

Good info, unreliable app. On Apple TV, this app does not allow navigation between tabs without the physical Siri Remote or a legacy/third-party remote, so you’ll have to search for and add courses some other way so they’ll show up on the home tab for you on the Apple TV under “continue watching” in the home tab. It’s surprisingly common for audio to glitch and fall out of sync with video. If you can find interesting courses and play then successfully, you’ll get great value from this service.

If there was heaven for business, Great Courses Plus, should have its rightful place.. You can move over YouTube and Netflix because the GreatCourses plus is actually going to revolutionize culture and education for the next millennium. The quality of courses is excellent, the lineup is spectacular and the subject matter is both profound and life changing and reality altering (no drugs needed) I’ve taken several courses on this platform and I am always wowed at the end of every episode. But great courses plus is not for everyone, if you happen to love ignorance and you think ignorance is bliss then you don’t want to be on this platform. :( The first course I took was on nutrition, I couldn’t believe that it took me over 40 years to understand what was explained to me in those 32 classes of 30 minutes or so. I applied everything I learned and I was able to lose weight. Suddenly I felt more energy, I worked out more, felt even better about myself and got the courage to do daring things like ask someone out on a date. etc.. the wheels of benefits just goes up. Indeed, Just by modifying my nutrition. This potentially can save my life or at least improve it well beyond what anyone could imagine. And I’ll tell you one more thing, $20 a month for streaming quality videos and lectures like this is nothing. It’s like 4 Starbucks a month for a wealth of educative and actionable knowledge. I hope to God that they never modify their pricing too much so that it becomes unaccessible to people of lower income and I really hope that they get a lot of money from sales so that they can produce even better videos and make even more money so that they can be in other countries in other languages and cultures. I really love great courses plus

Response to developer. Update: Firstly, my apologies for being rude in my previous message. I was just frustrated that I couldn’t cancel the subscription before I got charged. I called your support and they asked me to change the login URL to greatcoursesplus.com/home and then the password worked. Please have this fixed. However, once I was in the account, I tried to access the My Account section and all I could see was a blank page. I tried this on 3 different browsers with the same result. The support person on the phone confirmed this on their end as well. This really comes across as scammy even though that might not be your intention. Please have this fixed for your customers. Thanks!

Love the lectures, hate the app.. I use this app on Apple TV. It is insufferably slow. Sometimes sit for 10 minutes to update the subjects list. Frequently required to sign out and sign back in to access content. If the lecture content is so smart, why can’t the app writers be?

Well done in the upgrade!. I was thrilled to see the new look and feel and great addition to content! Well done all!!

Absolutely terrible user experience! The frusteration is not worth the cost. This site functions as though it has not been updated since the early 2000’s. Load times crawl, to the point you wonder if anything is happening at all. Nothing is convenient or intuitive; the Autoplay Switch, rather than being attached to the video player, where it would be useful and logical, is instead hidden at the bottom of the Personal Account Information. Not sure who had this idea but they should be fired immediately! But they are not the only ones. This entire interface is riddled with glitches and bugs. Considering the heavy monthly charge is $20 it doesn’t seem like too much to ask that the platforms function at least adequately, this is just embarrassing I attempted to contact customer service before reviewing... have been waiting ten days... Pathetic

Excellent. I personally love the service, many video series on a range of niche subjects that helps anyone gain a greater depth of knowledge on a range of topics! This seems like a paid answer but I promise it isn't lol

Excellent!. Great source of knowledge

New update constantly crashes. There is a major glitch on the new Great Courses Plus app. When trying to access the Course Guidebook for the Essentials of Strength Training guide, the app completely crashes within one second. When trying to reopen the app, it will consistently crash before making it past the opening screen. The only way to regain access to the courses is to delete and re-download it again (this will also cause you to lose your place in all of the lectures you’ve previously been watching).

The Great Escape. The Great Courses is an heirloom treasure trove of finest academic endeavours to engage your mind with each time the everyday life feels too ordinary and mundane.

Great service, terrible app. The iTunes subscription was not applied until a full week after purchase, the GC finally applied it after messaging with them over a few days. So that’s 7 days I paid for that I received no service... otherwise the selection and quality of videos is good.

Enjoyable content. I am enjoying The Great Courses Plus a lot. A good selection of materials with interesting instructors, especially the music and history course.

Best Learning Platform. The videos are for long life student who loves to learn about the real stuff.

Garbage. Great program, terrible app. Forgets where it left off after pausing, and then kicks you out of that program altogether. Stops recognizing network connection. Took 20 minutes to get it playing again. Somebody fix this please.

Terrible update. Last update was supposed to change the interface. All downloads were lost and I can’t re-download any content. One year payment to be able to see offline and now, cannot see a thing. Very disapointed. Needs to be corrected asap.

Amazing!!!. Great content! Great teachers!! The best money ever spent on a subscription service!!!

Great way to learn. Excellent courses. Just wish the app had a sleep timer

Really enjoy this. I had been buying courses individually, but find the annual membership to the Great Courses Plus to be so much better - for the cost of a few series, you can start one series of lectures, jump to another and then, move back depending on what you feel like listening to or learning about at that particular time. For people like me, who are lifelong learners and who are busy and on the go - its fabulous!

The app is a pile of crap. The app is just poorly designed and bad although I like the content of the website. It’s just so bad in every way I don’t know where to start, there is no video quality selector, you can’t do the mini window video player on iPad, once you start watching a lecture, it appears in your history tab but there is no way in hell to get back to the lecture list, you can ONLY watch the episode you were watching, and the next one, by finishing it, but you can’t get to the list of lectures without searching for it in the search field. Overall server performance is poor, everything takes longer to load than normal services like YouTube or Netflix, it just feels like an app from the early days of smartphones.

Great content but glitchy. The course and lectures in this app are fantastic, easily worth the subscription price. But the app has quite a few bugs that make it somewhat difficult to use.

Need to improve app. Love the content, but the app is below standard.

Can’t cancel subscription!!!. I think the app is great, but I’ve gotten what I can from it, and wanted to cancel my subscription. The app doesn’t allow me to do it. I went to my account on the app and all it gives me is my personal information with no option of cancelling subscription. Then I went onto my subscriptions page in my settings and it said I don’t even have a subscription. But my credit card keeps getting charged!! I would like to know how this is possible.

Excellent. I love this program

PizzaVenueRiot. I found that a general science course I took as a common man⭐️ helped me to bring scraps of information that I have gleaned over the years into better focus while unifying deeper concepts of science that I have learned. Other courses are enlightening as well for novelty purposes! I enjoy the 13 subjects offered at Wondrium. The pathway to take is a course in cognitive biases-formal logic-general science-string theory-quantum theory-thermodynamics-chemistry-astronomy-geology-atmospheric science-organic chemistry-biochemistry and molecular biology-ocean science-geology-botany-math-engineering subjects and the other 13 subjects in a logical order. Just a guess not necessarily a recommendation. I like Wondrium because you can plot your own pathway like the one I just described and study at your own pace even just for novelty purposes like myself.

Can't remember what I listened too. The content is great. The app keeps forgetting where I was. Very often I start listening only to realize that I listened to the lecture the day before. It's a frustrating experience. Please sync more often so this doesn't happen.

Great content, app needs work. I love the content in this app - such professional courses and they present serious content by experts, not just surface level knowledge. Unfortunately the app is buggy. Many times when I chrome cast lectures the lecture plays both on the tv and my phone. I have to stop it and try again and eventually it works. If they work out the kinks it will be five stars!

You have to pay. Do not download u have to pay monthly subscription

New name. The new name is absolutely ridiculous. It’s so absurd I almost don’t want to click it. Did you pay marketing guys for this?

Garbage. Will not let me use the app. Keeps saying start free trial even after I restored purchase through App Store. It’s been over a week I keep messaging support and nothing . Beware!!

CAREFUL! No access despite paying for a yearly subscription. I bought a yearly subscription through Apple subscriptions and I’m still unable to access any content three weeks later. The account is set to the same email address as my apple account and the payment has cleared both Apple and my financial institution. The app just keeps offering me a free trial despite my having already paid and then fails to let me use the trial, saying I’ve already bought a subscription and then throwing up an error. If I don’t have access in a week, I’ll contact the App Store to report this so others don’t get nailed by the same problem.

Are you interested in learning?. There is so much great stuff here. All the old Great Courses (and hopefully more to come) and lots of new content, like documentaries, which I haven’t spent much time with and can’t comment on. I had seen some of the older courses years ago (ironically though a shady Internet download site) so I knew it was great quality, expert-made material. After hearing ads on a couple podcasts I listen to for a couple years I decided to do the trial. I’m pretty sure this will be a perpetual subscription at this point. There is so much to learn here. The app isn’t bad but really it’s the content. The offerings are both broad and deep.

New app update is a failure. Everything was good before the new update. Now even though I download the lectures fully, it comes with an error and don’t show while offline. Don’t subscribe until they fix the problem if you’re intending to watch offline in the subway or sth.

Great source of information. Love the content, both verity and quality. App could use some improvement. Difficult to get back to where I left off. Would be nice to be able to bookmark and add comments (private). Also would be great if students could contact teacher. But I could see how this would be unwieldy. Update: found my watch list which helps to get back to where I left off.

I love the great courses plus. If you like learning new things and exploring new fields of interest, this app is extremely cool and convenient. The monthly price at sign up was $14 a month I think, but after a brief period of cancelling my subscription, they offered a reduced price for longer periods of commitment: $30/3 months. I have a much easier time paying this, as I only listen casually until I find a course I really like. 5 stars.

Freeze ups. The new speedy lecture feature is great. But sometimes the program freezes and only a complete phone shutdown can resolve the problem. (iPhone 7 w/ IOS 11.0.1) Update – the problem arises because the app doesn’t recognize the user as an actual subscriber, and won’t download lessons for later viewing. Not as bad as before, but still a nuisance. (Problem persists even with new iOS 12.) Still, GC+ is most worthwhile!

App bugs almost make the content not worth it. The content is great but the app is awful. I use Bluetooth headphones to listen and every time I pull up the app it jumps either forward or backwards in the lecture by several minutes, or it skips forward or backward an entire lecture! There’s also no way to start a lecture series over, so every time I want to relisten to one, every single lecture starts at the last 30 seconds of the lecture. And since there’s no easy way to move backward and forward without pulling up the app, I’m forced to pull up the app and it skips time/lectures, as mentioned above. The whole thing makes it almost not worth the great content.

Love these!. I got the free 3 month trial, and figured that I would cancel after my COVID lockdown boredom ended. However, I have to say that this is totally worth it. I initially had trouble getting the airplay to work but the support was very helpful. I’ve watched several different lectures so far on a range of topics and they have been so well done. I have a new appreciation for history and art because of these courses. Would be great if they can add some history courses about Sub-Saharan Africa

A buffet for the famished!. So much to choose from, so little time. Actually there’s all the time in the world, since I’ll probably never let this subscription expire ... This is a HUGE deal for curious minds. I’ve been a Great Courses fan & customer for about 15 years, but always having to budget money and time on small, calibrated doses. Suddenly the whole spectrum is shining down on me like a rainbow. So far no problems getting whatever I want streaming on multiple devices. ¡Muchísimas Gracias!

Good content bad app. The content of these lectures is great, don’t get me wrong. But the app is missing 2 very basic features that make it annoying in general, and dangerous to use while driving: 1) the forward/back buttons on the Lock Screen skip by an entire lecture, rather than by a few seconds, so you have to unlock your phone and navigate to the app itself to do so 2) iOS doesn’t recognize the audio as Spoken Word, so navigation instructions just speak over the lecture rather than temporarily pausing it. The Podcasts app, Audible, MasterClass, cloudLibrary, etc all have these features. Great Courses really needs to implement them.

Love the content organization is a big flaw. I love the content, everything is interesting to me. That’s though is the problem. The add to watchlist is only really useful if you don’t add everything cool to it and quickly becomes overwhelming. I don’t remove things I have watched because I am likely to loose them if I ever want to review. I think a great improvement would be to add an organization feature. Maybe for easiest use, multiple customizable ones. At the very least have them sorted by the categories they are under.

College lectures in my family room!. An occasional purchaser of Great Courses over the last 20 years I am won over by the Great Courses Plus! For $15 a month I can renew acquaintance with my college favorites or learn new subjects like Mindfulness in my family room, in my car or on my patio! I can synchronize the lectures on as many as four devices - my phone, my tv and my Kindle. You may stream or download, listen or view! This is high level college courses alongside cooking techniques and health information - this is for anyone who, like me, who enjoys learning and thinking!

Thank you.

Wonderful. At near $200 after the tax is added this is still incredibly one of the best deals in the App Store. You are granted access to semesters of college-level courses which can aid you in countless ways and pursuits. Whether used as a refresher or supplemental learning or as a primer to a field course you are about to take, I find it far more useful than notes and note-taking. It’s much like having a rewind button during a live course so that you can absorb and review at your pace. I don’t write reviews often but am very glad to do so for this app/course.

Problems with audio and loading content. I have been using this app for about two years and overall, I have enjoyed the courses and the how the content is presented. I love the mix of professors and topics. HOWEVER, over the past few months I have noticed that there are classes that will not upload and others that the sound does not play even though I just watched another class and the sound is fine. I do not know how to resolve these issues.

Superb content, unreliable app. The course content from the Great Courses Plus is high-quality, in-depth, and comprehensive. I pay for the service absolutely love it, probably watching more lectures on Great Courses than I do TV shows and movies from other entertainment-oriented streaming services. That said, this app is frustrating. It is less than reliable. Some key shortcomings: videos frequently take forever to play or never finish loading. Sometimes the video will play, but without the accompanying audio. And annoyingly, my progress is not synced between the web site and the app, so I can’t easily keep track of which videos I’ve watched.

Experience a course. Change your life.. The wealth of knowledge, information and understanding available is amazing! Subjects from the esoteric to the practical. Professors of every persuasion, personality and style, but all credible and knowledgeable. Learn at your pace and on your schedule. Expose yourself to fields of study far outside your comfort zone. Top off your study of a field with these courses or let them be the catalyst to further study. Keep your brain active and young. Learning is an end in itself.

Great idea. I have so far not encountered the "Buggy-ness" that others have reported, and am hopeful that such problems will be worked out soon. I am very impressed with the basic idea of offering a wide range of lectures and courses on a subscription basis however. This makes it possible to be better informed as to which courses will hold your attention and be the most beneficial. Also is a way of arousing interest in subjects we were not aware of before. Well done so far, Great Courses, and keep working to deal with problems as they arise. DRL

Only gave 5 stars so it would be seen!!. I signed up for what was described as a 7 day free trial. I wanted to make sure the content was enough to warrant the expense. I was charged same day and when I sent a message I was told that they don’t offer free trials and if there was one it was through Apple not them so basically, sorry about your luck, you’ll have to dispute it with Apple. Disgraceful customer service.

Thanks. I have been a great courses customer for years,(10) more or less and now a the great courses plus. 4-5 years ago I saw a bill gates interview in which he stated that he used the great courses as a source of information, education etc. I decided to join the great courses plus because the easy accessibility, the practicality to have all the courses with you wherever you go. I have recommended the Great courses plus to several people and they have called me back to thank me. I will recommend to have this at home as a source of knowledge.

User interface needs improvement. Great app, which definitely deserves a 5-star rating. The course selection includes a hugh variety. I have one problem that should be fixed: When I finish viewing a lecture in a course and then want to resume, at a later time, with the next lecture in the same course, I have to search for the course in my watch list. I think the most recently viewed courses should appear at the top of the course list under a category named "most recently viewed," or alternatively, they should be displayed at the top of the watch list.

Good content, bad app.. I like the courses and I like that you can download them on the app. My biggest problem is the audio controls. If you are playing the audio of a lecture and you turn off your phone, the only options to scrub though the audio is to skip to the next lecture. I know this sounds knit picky but please add a way to skip 30 seconds or so when you turn your phone off. Also if you play a lecture in the car and are using google maps it just plays behind google voice so you miss what they are saying every time google gives you directions.

Like the content not the app. I have been enjoying several of the lectures on the site, but when I use the app, I am continually getting error messages. One that I need to be a member to listen, so I have to exit the lecture and go back into it without changing anything else to access it. The newest one that popped up 26 minutes into the lecture was that this wasn’t available in my country. Also it has suddenly decided to not play the lecture in the background anymore on audio. That’s annoying and drains my battery. Overall, while I wish there was more courses in history and crafting I enough the app. I just wish they would fix the bugs.

Separating app, service, and name. The app is barely ready for regular use as of 9/22. There are some basic features that other streaming services have, such as downloading episodes in the background while on wifi or queueing episodes to download, that are missing. Another weird bug is that it won’t download more than a few episodes at a time because, it seems after so much traffic, it thinks it is on cellular data. The service is great. A little pricey, causing me to rethink my subscription every month, but still great. The name “Wondrium” is terrible. I have nothing to add to that.

Great content. Buggy app. Great Courses are terrific learning vehicles. Excellent professors, excellent delivery. App is quite buggy. History function does not work at all, lectures do not resume where one left off. Often fails to start the next lecture with a ‘you must be a subscriber to watch this lecture’ message, even when one is a subscriber. Needs a top level ‘resume’ button that works, an option to download all lectures in a course with a single click, and audio only download - or ability to play audio only from previously downloaded video. Hard to understand why these things don’t seem to get fixed or updated.

I want to know everything!!. I love the monthly program as I have always loved Great Courses. I am a lifelong learner and I like that some classes I can just listen to and get absorbed in things I didn’t know about before, like the Black Death. And then there are Courses where I’m taking notes and actually learning a skill, like speaking Spanish. This way I don’t have to spend hundreds, or more realistically, I’m not limited to what they have at the library.

Great Courses Plus. After weeks of just looking at the icon that I downloaded of Great Course Plus on my phone, and many many thought of should I get it, or not. I decided to go ahead and try Great Courses Plus. I watched what I was interested in learning and took notes then I paused because it’s a lot of information to take in, but it’s well worth it. I am happy I opened it. I am looking forward to learning from these courses. I am so excited. New Happy 😊 Student

Fabulous . Never a minute’s problem to use. With the choice of audio or video these courses can be used in virtually any situation. Great listening to these excellent courses while driving. I’ve never had any problems using the app. Not sure but maybe the phone makes a difference. But saying that mine is nothing special— a 5 year old iPhone 6s. For me this is a fabulous app with a wide variety of subjects that makes my long drives to and from work much more interesting than they ever were before.

My treadmill buddy.. We all get tired of reviewers bragging on their own brilliance; but, to inform my background. I was a 26 year old lumber worker and taxi driver. Went to school. Completed credits enough for degrees in Biochemistry, and Honours Physiology, but finally chose to be listed as a double major in math and chemistry. Went on to Doctor of medicine. Sixty years old now, still practicing medicine, still love learning. Love The Great Courses. Great subjects. Wonderful presenters/teachers. Hard to find time, so I have set up a large screen in front of my treadmill. Exercise my mind and body simultaneously. Love these courses, love this app.

Great. I love everything about this company and it’s role in enabling lifelong learning. Good value proposition and superior content vs. any free learning sites/apps like Kahn, etc. The world would be a much better place if even 10% of the social media screen time of people was spent learning things on this site/app. App is available on phone, tablet, and smart tv. My only minor drawback is on the tv app which does not enable the faster playback speeds that the phone/tablet apps do but since this is a review of the phone app that is a moot point. 5 stars easily

Excellent content, meh app. Wondrium is the place for undergrad level introductory course like lectures. There is a ton of variety and they are generally excellent. The app is a bit annoying though. Three issues come to mind. First, “Continue Watching” is never on the front screen when you open the app. Choose any other tab to get away from Home, come back to Home, and then “Continue Watching” appears with your most recently watched courses so you can pick up where you left off. Annoying. Next, you cannot go full screen and have the white “grab” bar at the bottom of the screen disappear like in every other streaming app ever. Annoying. Finally, there is no ability to adjust quality/data usage for either streaming or downloads. One size fits all. Also…. Annoying. If they were to fix these three things, the app would be MUCH better.

Could be better, needs a sleep timer.. Wish they had a sleep timer option, I typically need something to listen to in order to fall asleep. Great courses is great for this, but no sleep timer means my wife is annoyed when it never turns off and it plays further then I intend to listen. This means I have to use the audible app instead and that I rarely use great courses. The content is good though.

Version 3.0 does not work under iOS 12. I have been using this app for almost a year, and it has worked flawlessly. However, I just upgraded to the current version, 3.0, and my phone has iOS 12 installed. When I launch the app, I get a blank screen, whether I select home, or my watchlist, or categories. No matter what I select the screen is completely white. So I can’t select anything. Please fix this ASAP. I’m in the middle of a course and I would like to continue listening to it.

Love the content, wish the app was better. First of all, I have to express my gratitude for having such quality lecturers and interesting subjects all in one place. However, some of the features I most looked forward to in the app are severely limited or malfunction. Many of the lessons don’t actually allow you to download just the audio track, and streaming at 1.5x speed seems to constantly cause tracking latency that ends up pausing the video for long periods, rendering the feature entirely moot for time-saving. Please, please fix the app!

Content is good, but hard to enjoy due to many app bugs. I use the app both on a iPad Pro (latest model) and IPhone X. I have the same problems on both devices. 1. Whenever you select a course or option in the app it hangs for about 15-20 seconds before it navigates or acknowledges your selection. 2. Downloads seem to get hung up and take a long time even on very high speed internet. 3. Downloads sometimes will not play when away from WiFi which defeats the whole point of downloading them. 4. When you turn off the screen the course stops playing even if its audio only, and it takes several tries to get it to play with the screen off. 5. Related to issue number one, In general all navigation within the app is very slow on both devices. 6. Often when I try to download a lecture it says it has downloaded. But it only takes 2 seconds and the file size is tiny. The video won’t play when offline because it never downloaded. Now I know to triple check but that is really annoying

Great courses, mediocre app. Great content in an app that has big performance, User interface and User experience issues It takes 15 seconds to play video and 9 seconds to switch to audio (on an iPhone 8) that makes only watching a class very frustrating… The app will only download video (even when I only need to play audio) and it takes a lot of time downloading low quality video on a fast connection. It’s hard to access to courses I’m taking. I have to navigate several screens to find the courses I’m taking and I can’t navigate the app while playing audio. The app behaves more as a website than as an app… developers should take cues from Audible’s or Netflix’s mobile apps.

Want to learning something new? This is for you!. I have been a huge fan of Great Courses over the last 18 year and when they offered it on demand, online, all the time; I had to have it! It saves space in my house (we have quite a collection of the DVDs) but I can watch it anywhere! I am no longer tethered to my tv but now can continue to watch it every time I travel anywhere. It came with me to Denmark, England, Mexico, The Netherlands and the US with no interruptions or glitches. I cannot recommend it enough! Thank you Great Courses!

Great content; bad app. This app is frustrating. I cannot get from one lecture to the one preceding it. I called the Great Courses office, and somehow we got it so that it would start working again. This involves having to delete the app and reinstall it. But now the same problem is happening again. There is some kind of homepage for each course that stops appearing once I start listening or watching a course. It will not reappear no matter what button I push. I like to move around the lectures and not just hear them straight through, but that is impossible with this app currently.

Love the content but there are some serious issues. I am so happy you have these courses, this app, and I use it every day. A very happy paying subscriber. BUT in this newest version you make me sign in every time I open the app! It's infuriating! Also - can you make it easier to continue where I left off? Don't route me back to the home browsing screen every time an episode finishes or I sign into the app, my default should be the lecture I was just listening to and was in the middle of, or my watchlist. I was driving on the freeway earlier today and had to pause, and the next thing I knew I had to sign in again and then somehow navigate all the way back to the lecture I listen to every day by going to the very bottom of my watchlist and then finding the same episode again. If it's possible just to keep me signed in that would go a long way. Thank you for making such incredible content. Keep up the good work.

Awesome. Pros: you have access to hundreds of university courses. This enables even the busiest people to learn while doing other things. The courses are well done by university professors and there is a wide variety of subjects to choose from. Well worth the subscription. Cons: the app itself is a bit clunky. It was worse before and they have updated it making it much easier to use. I still find it a bit frustrating at times, but it’s not terrible and it’s worth having access to so many courses.

Absolutely Love!. As a busy homeschool mom to 3 gifted kids, I love great courses plus! I’m constantly watching (or listening) to the course while I do housework or drive. I enjoy being able to learn alongside my kids and am able to help them better understand their schoolwork because I’m using great courses, and when I don’t have the resources to help them go as in depth in a subject, I know I can find a course or lecture on the app.

Content great but app buggy. I love the content so much but the app makes it so frustrating. In Apple TV there is a glitch that makes the audio lag the video a few seconds. You have to back out of the video and restart. This can happen several time in one video. This has been happening for over a year and the company knows about the problem but somehow it never gets fixed. Also since switching over to Wondrium, lots of videos have no content. I never had this problem when it was great courses plus. I wish they would fix these problems because it’s some of the best streaming content.

Great app for wonderful courses. Great courses plus is a wonderful concept with fabulous content. I prefer watching these to cable TV channels. App is great to find courses and vie lectures. Only flaw with app is if you download some lectures for offline viewing, they won’t start unless you have a internet connection which you don’t have on an airplane or in no data signal area. That’s the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars.

Very Practical towards Functional Learning. I’ve really begun to enjoy this app and it’s content to have a classroom per se in which you can engage and cover a wide verity of content is awesome. In particular I thoroughly enjoy the lectures that pertain to law. I also noticed there are pdf present in some of the lectures this is most useful as it allows me to really dive in and internalize what I’m learning. Nonetheless if you like learning on the go if you like to keep your mind centered and engaged this is well worth the subscription!!

Pared down compared to regular Great Courses. Disappointing that multiple courses in the regular Great Courses catalog are NOT available in GC Plus. I started a subscription to GC+ ‘assuming’ the whole library of GC would be accessible but it’s not. Available courses are fantastic. Despite a few audio/video sync issues & download glitches the educational opportunities are remarkably well done by both production & professors. I’m not sure that I will continue a subscription since my subject search in GC+ is often scant while other & better courses are in the regular GC catalog.

Worst app I’ve ever used. I want to get to enjoy this content soo badly but the app is just so bad. It’s been awful for months. It freezes within seconds of opening for like 10 seconds every single use. Then, if you get the privilege of being able to navigate to your desired course, you have a 50% chance of it crashing. (Also - why would you make an audio/video content app without letting you pick up the last lecture you were listening to? Compare to Spotify/audible) The devs haven’t done anything about the reliability or added any needed features despite a big aesthetic update. It’s been month after month, update after update. I don’t have confidence that they even know what’s going on

New version of App. Review Update: it works now, thank you! The new version has a nice look and feel, and it’s so much easier to navigate! I’ve been waiting a long time for the “Continue Watching” section. The watchlist now separates Courses and Lectures, which I really like. Original review: I love this app, but the new one is crashing, both on my iPhone and my Apple TV. It made me change my password, which I did successfully. When I open it, it immediately closes. Please fix this so it can go back to being a 5-star app!

Player app is improving but still flawed. Content is excellent. I've listened to the courses on audible for sometime and I was excited to adopt the Plus program. The content is really high quality. The player has improved a good deal but it still has frustrating flaws. 1. It takes too long to play content, even content that has been down loaded. 2. The iPad app will not display player controls when placed in full screen mode. The only way to pause or stop the lecture is to close the application.

Great content, not so great (but decent) app. The content is tremendous. I’m able to start with nothing and come out of a class with the knowledge of how to write a screenplay, understand how law works, or communicate more effectively. What this app cant do is give you practice; however, the content and videos itself are well worth the $20/month if you have the time to view them and practice on your own. Unfortunately, this app needs some work. There’s lots of bugs and small annoyances. Sometimes I have to quit and reopen the app.

I Love The Great Courses Plus. I used to buy the DVDs. Now I can easily watch many courses on my iPad without the need for extra equipment. The instructors are very knowledgeable and the course material is presented in a fashion that makes you want to continue to learn about new topics. My daughter is even taking a course on how to train our new puppy while I’m learning about healthy cooking. I’m so glad I found the streaming version of the great courses. I love it!

Highly recommend. I’ve had this membership just a short time but I am certain it is one of the best investments I could have made! Learning new things without the stress of tests or homework is refreshing and stimulating. Great Courses offers an array of excellent topics and the professors they hire are all top in their fields. Thanks Great Courses for enhancing my life so profoundly! I imagine I will always keep my monthly membership to Great Courses Plus. I’m planning to keep a list of all the courses I take to catalog my learning.

Love the content; app needs tweaking.. I love The Great Courses Plus! However, the app is buggy and needs to include features like: - the ability to download audio only; - a sleep timer for downloaded content; - the ability to turn your screen of as the content continues to play (this is available while streaming audio, but if you download content—which, only video is available for download—there is not the option to turn your screen off and continue to listen to content. Some of the problems that I have experienced with the app are: - app lags or appears to freeze at times; - at times I have had a dialogue box appear advising me that the content I am attempting to access is not (or may not) be available in my country (U.S.). I hope that the app continues to improve because I truly love The Great Courses Plus!

No control of downloads!!. Prior to traveling I try to download a variety of lectures. When I tap on the lecture it is not downloaded yet. I click on download and it tells me I can’t initiate the download again. Another download is in process and it will begin when this is finished. Makes sense except it is bull crap. No other lectures are downloading and after 2 days of excellent wifi and 5g nothing more has happened. My only recourse is to complain and hope someone actually reads the reviews and gets a fix for this. On Netflix and Audible you can visualize what is downloading and control it. Unfortunately no forward thinking here.
